Baiyuan - Cheers about Alice....see the beer discussion needs moving if its distracting you from the pretty models.
Only thing I'm not sure about is, whether I like the fact, that all your scavvies' skintones are so much alike. I'd propably have gone for more diversity.
The skin tones in the same tonal range are an important part of my overall scheme. Other than the Scalies, who have the same skin tone, I have tried to make sure there is variation with the Scavvies but keeping them similar. The reason for this is I want them to be degenerate humans, rather than chaos tainted freaks with bright blue skin for example. The other reason for a mostly pale skin tone is that they are living in the belly of a hive. Anyway I took a picture after reading your post to reassure myself that I'm doing the right thing:
Conga Line of Skin Tones
you can get a good zoom on it in the gallery.
I have one mutant planned who will have the Chameleon mutation...he will have a very different skin tone on one side
Thanks for the comment I learnt something new about my camera, taking that picture, and it was nice to have a think about my project as a whole again.
That's a nice line-up, PDH. Your models are epic in their personi (plural of persona?), even from behind. I'm a big fan of differing skin tones. Every batch of orks that I paint (because you all know I paint so much), I try to give most of them different skin tones. (keeping them green, of course)
@PDH: I assumed you had an overall plan and I support the image of scavvies who don't look like the full spectrum of the chaos rainbow. Being pale is btw a thing everybody in the hive suffers imo, anything beyond the spire gets zero natural light after all. So the only form of tan should be a thing called "dirt", apart from ethnic variations of course.
On the other hand I think it doesn't need to be Chaos involved to have crazy skin tones. Did you read "Salvation"? One guy there was trapped in a hole with some strange ooze flooding in and afterwards his arm was glowing green and he had some new abilities, don't want to tell too much. But again I can see the nessecity to bind a group together by means of a somewhat coherent color scheme.
Finally now that you posted them together I have to admit it was my misconception to think they were all the same color. They are not and look credible as a group. I can't wait for all the exciting things you seem to have in store. Winged mutants, chameleons... I'm sure your personal approach will be a blast.
Also I'm happy when I can push your awareness of your own project a little. And by the way what did you learn about your camera?
Good Green - Cheers, either way. Skin tones vary so much that in a small project like this its quite manageable...good luck with the green tide!
Being pale is btw a thing everybody in the hive suffers imo, anything beyond the spire gets zero natural light after all.
I think they must use day light bulbs that give off UV light on hive worlds. It would help produce vitamin D...for a more productive work force.
On the other hand I think it doesn't need to be Chaos involved to have crazy skin tones.
You're probably right there...I just don't want to paint the funny colours
Glad you'll be knocking about to see the rest of the gang as they come along. I'm back to work tomorrow so I image my productivity will be reduced again. I started back on the Inq28 Magos today and I think its only the hard bits left. While I was ordering Abigail's birthday present online this morning I kinda cracked and bought a model that will be my Firebrand Puritan Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor and became a DCM (two of the three purchases were kinda spur of the moment).
Considering that coming up with a nice inquisitor is one of the things that go through my head too, I'm curious what your approach will be. GW or another producer?
Well today has been a total wash out weather wise and Abi has a cold (but she is making out like its man flu!). So today I watched: A Good Year followed by The Goonies made a roast dinner and then watched Dan in Real Life....because I couldn't be bothered painting miniatures. Just so today didn't count as being wasted I finished off the last red Necromunda bulk head and the chain link fences, whilst watching the first two films. The hardest part of the process was waiting for things to dry.
The old broken computer fan on the right will be turned into something interesting..no prizes for guessing what though. I've also got my hands on two curved plastic pipes, for some vents.
I'm very happy as to how the fences turned out (Cheers Baiyuan and Adalhard). I used "Industrial Dirt" Mig pigment on the bases because I want them to be versatile. The MDF I've got for my board is sturdy enough to not need supports, so I can use both sides. One painted grey the other not painted at all - Voilà Nercomunda board and a desert board too.
The gonnies oops goonies and roast spuds , what a combination The fences are simple and effective. In your many game terms , what would they count as for cover? Consolations for Abi's man flu too
Morning Neil - Well the chain link fences were only every designed and built to look cool and to block areas of the board/generally get in the way. But they would offer minimal protection and so:
Necromunda: -1 to hit
40k: 6+ Cover Save
Inquisitor: Cover - Armour Value 1 for the wire mesh. Cover - Armour Value 2 for the uprights.
My mum has just given me, of all things, a can of enamel spray paint (she wasn't entirely sure why she had it either). Suspiciously it looks like scorched brown. Now has anyone had any experience of using enamel paint and if so:
Does it blot out details?
Can I use acrylic paint, weather pigments over the top?
It has been 16 long years and finally I have finished <queue manic laughter>! All my Nercomunda bulkheads are painted. Now its time to move onto the plasticard flooring...so roll on 2026.
Well they are propainted too! And considering oil price and the occasional/annual three price changes GW makes I think normal plastic sprues will be millions anyway.
So it will be more like: "Will trade a barely used planet in mint condition for 5 necromunda bulkheads."
I've already been looking at ebay for more and it made me sad . I'm considering 3 lots of 6 for £11.99 each being the best offer.
I wish I had a mint condition planet....I'd sell oil directly to GW and see how they like being ripped off. Of course they would just pass on that expense to you the loyal customer.
With the red neckerchief I had to go with a Woody from Toy Story theme for the name.
Hank “Bad” Lucky.
The guy who came up with the cowboy concept for Woody was called Bud Luckey.
Anyway I’m glad this one is finished (please just pretend you cannot see the mouldline on this model). I’m really rather pleased as to how the pattern on the neckerchief came out, rough and neat is how I see it, like its old and fading. The skin is good too. The black lining on finger nails is a little dark but much worse in the picture. My favourite bit though is the thigh bones piercing his skin, really please how they turned out.
I’ve got two more guys who are about to hit the modelling table. The first will be based off a gorkamorka yoof armed with a blunderbuss (could possibly pass a large bore shotgun). The second, and more exciting, will be a Shaman based on Throt the Unclean. I’ve had this one in mind since I started this project and since my mate Martin gave me an armless Throt a few years ago. Anyway we’ll see how they go over the next week or so.
I’m now going to be cheeky. Does anyone want to help me create my gang boss?/does anyone who has enjoyed this project want to do me a favour? Molotov has volunteered a double barrelled shotgun. I really want to use a head from the chaos mutation sprue for my boss. The problem is I don’t want to spend £6.15 pence on an ugly sprue for one head. I’m after the fourth head in from the left:
Superb model (in its ugliness, I mean...), Peter... The different bits look like they were made to fit each other, the kitbashing is so smooth... As for the painting, it's really subtle (bubons, bones, nails, skin, etc...). Another masterpiece!
Sorry for the head, I might have it home, but as I won't be home until november... I am of no help!
Nice work Peter , the cowboy idea is a lovely touch . You cant say he is a bog standard scavvy anymore , the work on the bandanna is really good , and really places the focus on his face. He looks like a really shifty guy , and to me his eyes look like they are looking to the upper right on the pic , as if he is scanning from left to right for his enemy. The bone work is great , really bleached out , but those holsters are the best !
if there is a gunslinger perk , he has to have it.
sorry matey i have plenty of bits but not that one , i do have some regular chaos heads though , will take a photo of some bits that might come in handy for your boss later.
Yggdrasil - Cheers. The buboes were a piece of cake - a single wash of really thin pink paint (red gore and white). No worries about the head. I'm of the opinion that the rest of that sprue is pretty ugly. I've already used the one I had on a fantasy nurgle lord. I should probably take some pictures of him for my other blog.
lukewild1982 - No bloodletters here. For the latest model I've used the plastic ghoul kit for both legs and torso (and a green stuff belly). The previous model was a kroot torso. The main plastic kits I've used for this project are: Ghouls, Beastman Ungors, Kroot, Ork Nobs and Grots.
fasterthanlight - Thanks. To take a note out of Baiyuan's book I think they are better than GW scavvies too. Though saying that I'm rather fond of the boss with hood. Oh and I love the GW paint job as a friend painted them (it doesn't actually matter that he is a friend I love his painting style). I think GW went a little bit to vagrant when they sculpted the scavvies. I think I have gone a little more mutant, which is how i perceive them.
neil101 - The bandanna was a pain to sculpt. I also had great difficulty painting the dammed thing. I just could not get the red to be matt, it was like I was using a gloss paint! I used the pattern to try and tone it down a bit. Turns out the purity seal matted it down enough for my liking (though yet again it has taken off the final metal highlights). As for the holsters I wish I'd added a little more twine to the rear of the right one, where it meets his leg. The left one looks a bit crap. I painted on the "stitching" to try and hide the worst mold line I've left on a model in years.
Never mind about the head....I get a horrible feeling I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy that sprue. I've got plenty of time though, since I wont be touching the scavvy boss until sometime in July or August.
If monkey doesn't have it, I definitely do, just let me know.
About Bad Lucky, he is quite cool for a standard scavvy. The conversion isn't exactly mind-blowing, but still on a high standard. The painting is great as always, particularly good job on the bandana (I thought it's only a bandana if you wrap it around your forehead, john rambo style).
monkeytroll - Thank you kind sir . I will send you a PM after this. I would have replied sooner but I was out last night celebrating my best friends 30th. This morning we were both somewhat/massively hungover and I still feel awful. Drinking until 4am (while listening to songs from our youth) and getting woken at 8am by loud Abi was annoying (the carpet made lots of noise under her feet - apparently is not her fault) . This afternoon we were at his families house celebrating, they had hired a bouncy castle which was amazing (I had to put my hangover on hold to play on it).
Baiyuan - Thanks man, turns out monkey has one.
The conversion really isn't meant to be mind blowing, he really is just to bulk up the numbers. I just wanted another scavvy made totally from the ghoul kit for the shape and form. Hopefully the shaman conversion will be a little more up your alley. Yeah the bandana or neckerchief (whatever its called) really brings it together, I wasn't convinced until the pattern was on it. I purposely did the pattern slightly off centre, I didn't want it to look too manicured.
Cheers guys thanks for the offers of head. I honestly just wrote that and realised I missed out a the.
Now you ruined it all PDH, I'll never offer to give you a head again.
I know he wasn't planned to be much of a conversion and it's ok. I'm beginning to think that a gang consisting of nothing but elaborate conversions can look very busy, whenever I look into my showcase. He will underline the other conversions, without distracting.
I hope he makes the others pop around him then. Talking of showcases I think you should give us a group shot of your Delaques, so we can see what you mean about them being too busy together. Then I'll tell you which parts to rip off .
I've been thinking about a cabinet shot for a while now and actually I already tried making one, but they all turned out horrible. I'll try again soon, but I'd prefer to have some painted by then, we will see.
Llamahead - Stone is great. It was one of those moments where you see a model (packmaster) and.... Oh yeah that might work....bits and kits...arrives....oh yeah that does work. I'm still unsure about the zombies, I just hope by the time I make up my mind GW will have actually redesigned the vamp count zombies. I was gutted that the mantic ones look great but are too small.
Oh Peter, zombies really shouldn't be a problem there are sooooo many companies that produce zombie miniatures, there has to be one to your liking and in the right scale.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Just to prove my point. My suggestions would be Mantic (are they really that small?), Incursion or Enigma
Baiyuan - I know I know there are hundreds of them...but none of them do it for me (except Mantic, which are way to small imo). I'm just going to wait until GW release some new ones and I can then convert them to my hearts content (fingers crossed August's Vampire Counts second wave).
Talking of converting to my hearts content I'm calling dibs on the chaos sorcerer and necromancer:
Just checking in Peter and the finecast conversions are going to be great! I just got Coteaz from my wife as a gift and the two headed eagle has to go. I look forward to seeing your progress and kudos on your work thus far
monkeytroll - Indeed Baiyuan has done a marvellous job of searching the net for all the dead flesh. Those ones are from enigma miniatures, I cannot find them on their site at the moment but I'm positive they are http://enigmaminiatures.com/en/home.html
Molotov - Oh Mol those are actually plastic! So I now have my Inquisitor (Excommunicate Traitoris), his pet Chrono Gladiator, his Daemon Host and now I think a tainted Navigator (I'm sure I've seen rules for them). I feel the warband is missing a gun dog. Would it be too far of a stretch having this Inquisitor in league with Malal? http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Malal. Ooooo I could also true scale a Sons Of Malice marine. Oh too many ideas and too little time.
madmartykmf - Oh madmartykmf those are actually plastic (well according to the article and no finecast logo on those pictured blisters)! #If they are plastic I'm looking forward to future releases even more.
Huh, reading fail for me, then. I missed that these were plastic. They certainly all have a lot of utility for INQ28. Well, I'm not particularly sold on the Dark Elf, but the other three are interesting. I can see how the Necromancer could be made into a Scavvy very easily. The Tzeentch Sorceror looks as though he could make a the basis of an interesting Daemonhost...
No big deal looking for the zombies, took me like 5min. They are all available at Battlefield Berlin, so I only had to link them from their page. Can't understand why you don't like the incursion zombies, I would love to have an excuse to buy and convert them.
About calling dibs on the new minis: Dibs, my ass! When my neighbour first showed me the new sorcerer last afternoon my "radical/heretical inquisitor" synapse fired immediately, so I'm afraid we will see more than one conversion, like usual. I know you were just kidding and I can't wait to see what you, Mol and I will make of him. Care about a conversion competition?
I have no real idea how to convert him yet, but I think it could be fun.
@Neil: I wasn't aware of that either, now I'm really curious to see a size comparison.
Molotov - I was thinking the necromancer might see life as a scribe or heretech. As for a daemon host....I'm not sure I see it.
Neil - I think they are small in comparison to my scavvies who have pistols the size of their heads.
Baiyuan - I don't know why the Incursion zombies don't do it for me (I'm kinda tempted because of the bionics though) Dibs my arse was the right answer . As for a conversion competition... hmmmm I'll PM you.
I got the Dark Heresy Books Blood of the Marty and Disciples of the Dark Gods (oh these will get my imagination firing) for my birthday along with £40 of GW vouchers (my uber radical warband I think).
Hmmmm I need to get this thread back on a Necromunda track....
My sister scoured ebay for my birthday present and bought me 26 Necromunda Bulkheads. My mum bought me some Mig dark rust weathering powder that will come in handy on them me thinks. The next batch will be in the same style as my chain link fence posts.
Peter
Note to self: All Inquisition related topics go in your other thread
When I started using Ungor heads in this gang I felt it was important to tie the two styles together. So I decided that I should go back to the root model for the gang and make a complimentary model, with similarities but using the ungor head. The first model was Nieder (2nd from left) a GorkaMorka ork with shotgun was the base.
Another GorkaMorka ork with a blunderbuss
I should have my Shaman done today or tomorrow too. I've been trying to get these two modelled before the weekend, when I get carried away with the Inquisition again!
Missed out a lot in this thread! Really need to be more active! Love the neckerchiefed scav! The fact that he's near-naked makes him super creepy (makes you wonder why he's hiding his face).
Ungor head - good, simple conversion!
After taking this pic I've spotted a couple of corrections I need to make, to the rat tail and the robe under the shoulder armour. I'm really happy how this chap has turned out so far. His hunched pose and oddly proportioned body are just how I imagined him. The plain staff made Martin27 think of Splinter from TMNT (cheers Martin for spotting that) though this guy aint much of a ninja.
This guy will be a wyrd mutant (minor psychic power).
Igandris - Cheers. The base model is Throt the Unclean:
prime12357 - Thanks. Painting wise I'm thinking green, brown and red (stolen from a redemptionist) robes. Skin tones I think should be quite like my nurgle sorcerer
Vitruvian XVII - I'm afraid the head is straight out of the box, no drilling whatsoever (though I can see why you though that from the picture). I thought it was just perfect and creepy without touching it. I bet this guy with no eyes get a ballistic skill advance!
HF Izanagi - Cheers....what's wrong with using throt as a base?
Oh I forgot to mention. The green stuff tail is only green stuff where it meets the rat. The rest of it is actually throt's tail with a thin layer of gs to blend them together.
Great model, bad angle! What's the gun in his hand? What are the rats doing behind his back, there are two, right? More perspectives would be appreciated.
Bold move to keep the staff that simple. You're brave, I couldn't have helped but to make it more ornate, which would have ruined part of the flavor.
Overall, even though I like him, I've got a feeling he still lacks something, that final touch, hhm...
This angle has made me go back to the modelling bench with him. I think I need to give him a double chin and the rat might get a bionic eye. Oh and I've just got rid of the GS stuck to the back of the gun.
Baiyuan - The gun in his hand is from gorkamorka, I think its a six shoota. Its my favourite, so ramshackle, chunky and I really cannot work out if how the bullets would fit in lol. There is only one rat behind his back. I wasn't going to keep the staff that simple but my good friend Martin suggested leaving it as is, after all he is only a scavvy. to Martin. If you can suggest that final touch I'll be more than happy to consider it....but I think it is missing paint, another chin and a bionic rat eye.
Vitruvian XVII - I see you found it lol. It just screams Shaman at me.
Peter, please stop posting your models. They are too awesome and it's making me want to start a Scavvy gang!
Seriously, this stuff just gets better and better. I want to see some zombies though. As a zombie nerd it's one of the more fun things about scavvies for me, and your gang needs some!
Lovely model Peter , the rats tail is a nice addition . I agree with the double chin and bionic eye touch , the chin would really help blend the parts together. I think some long straggely hair would also look cool on him. and i have to agree with the other posters , that the eyes look intense! might copy that drilled hole look . ( i know you didnt drill them )
Just skipped thorugh the whole blog during breakfast. Wonderful gang you have there. It's always great to see how much character you can put in Necromunda gang. Makes me want to start my own again.
Bit obsessed with Malifaux at the moment but they've got a ton of cool undead models that might work for scavvy zombies.
My favourites, and the ones I'm considering for my gang, are the steampunk abominations:
@Cadaver: Peter is sensitive with the zombie topic, don't push.
@PDH: I'm with Neil about the hair, the conversion would benefit from it. I don't know about bionics, that's at least unusual for scavvies, but who knows where he came from, maybe he was some augmented spire brat before he became a cackling mutated outcast.
Ok, wowowow. I'm away from a computer for two weeks, and all this stuff comes flying out. Love the new guy, absolutely brilliant for a wyrd. And Eezer Good, huh? That's a blast from the 90s...
I think the double chin would be fantastic on him (if I'm picturing what you'll be doing correctly in my head!). Love the hunched over pose, and I think the plain staff suits really well - perhaps a few chips or dents towards the end though: walking aid or not, I'm sure he'll have used it to club something at some point in his life! Unrecognisable from the original skaven model. Class act all round
(And now I really need to get my arse in gear and produce something myself...)
neil101 - I'm not doing any hair because I want to keep the bone piercing on the right of his head. If I put hair only on the left he will end up looking like a Emo (Abi's mum thought they were called Emu )
lesboss -Thanks
Anung Un Rama - Cheers. Do it Do it Do it start your own gang and share it on Dakka.
jackanory - I'd be tempted to get them guys if I were to ever start a pit slave gang...cool bionics.
Vitruvian XVII - What Baiyuan said. The one I've got is sandy paste. Its so much easier to use than real sand and doesn't chip off.
Baiyuan - Grrrrr Zombies I actually think bionics are relatively common in hive primas....the lower down the hive you go the cruder they get. If you look through John Blanches art and the necromunda rule book most things get bionics....even rats!
Yggdrasil - I'm rather fond of the comic look to the ghoul heads. A few of them are creepy. (my two headed and three armed mutants). The skaven bodies are just perfect. I'll be using spinetail as a base for my gang leader.
Scarper - Cheers. Eezer Good sung by The Shamen - see what I did there? Yeah not sure what I'm going to do with the staff, its made of wood.
Oh dear god....hang on a sec has this turned into Scarper's thread.
Baiyuan - succinct
Scarper - My mate martin has really helped with this model. His ideas have really brought it along.
Anung Un Rama - Cheers, its the little things. Oh and Baiyuan if you want you can misquote Anung in your sig
Vitruvian XVII - Thanks. Oh and I misread you dakka rank as "Mischievous techpriest"
neil101 - Petra.....ah I've been called worse.
prototype_X - Indeed it is liberating. At least nothing hangs in the way any more!
Chibi Bodge-Battle -
Baiyuan - sweet jesus, I'm not sticking my scavvy gang in Chibi's bionic eye.
____________________________________________________________here is a line which you've just crossed. I need yakface to create a spanking orkmoticon for you lot.
The second one is amazingly awful. I think it all depends on who you see it with though! I've only seen the second one, but I was with a couple of friends and we'd had a few (too many) beers, so I actually remember it being quite funny! I'm sure if I saw it again my opinion would probably change though...
It does have the best tagline ever though - "he was dead... but he got better." *facepalm*
Stupid movies, both installments, even Jenna Haze couldn't help making them better. If you're high enough and/or your IQ low enough they become bearable. Just like Transporter 2 to 41.
Scarper - Oh I didn't know it had that tagline.....I want to watch the sequel even more now.
Baiyuan - Ha ha it must be the latter since I would never do the former....oh wait I only watched it to see how it could get worse. All three Transporter films were bad...I think I must have a man crush on Jason Statham* because I like to watch his films in hope of one of them turning out good.
Anyway..... moving onto something modelling related I almost bought a cockatrice today, for the fun of painting it...but I held back. Not because I had will power but because..... of the games workshop employee who wouldn't leave me alone, in the Manchester Arndale store. I said on three occasions that I was looking and if I needed his help I would ask for it. But no "Isn't this soooo cool?", "what army do you play?", "Oh what are you painting at the moment?", "have you seen this it is so cool?" "isn't this fine cast model great?". So I just left and bought some new jeans instead
* I think it might actually be a man crush on Bacon but almost same difference....

Since I started the walkways in this blog I guess I should bung up a quick dodgy pic of them now they are done. I have also repainted some COD buildings I was given a while ago. When I've finished the nerco building floors I'll take a better shot of the lot.
Baiyuan - Don't worry you don't have to nitpick these. They are just rusty walkways with a little oil/dirty liquid spill.
Right, now I've got to think about building three liquid storage tanks, two or three smaller thinner red walkways for the COD buildings, the floors for the nerco bulkheads and paint 20 oil barrels.
The pics are more proof I'm getting on with the terrain so I can get on with the Inquisitrix...the week after next as a reward (or whenever I've finish the above).
Of course I do not have to nitpick, but can I help myself? Nah, seriously show us proper pictures once you're done, we want to see what you did exactly.
demi_morgana - He he I doubt I'd have ever finished this terrain if I hadn't got a deadline....Go look at dsteingass nerco thread for proper buildings.
neil101/ madmartykmf -- The liquid storage tanks have been a real hardship so far. One tube of M&S Chinese King Po Nuts Then Abi finally helped out with a project by eating two tubes of Hotel Chocolat Fruits Mango Strips and Orange Tangs. All three tubes have interesting lids. They will simply have some cardboard strips attached to make it look reinforced, some rivets (for the league) and painted a metal colour, add some rust
Baiyuan - I will show you better pics when the whole lot is set up.
I've got a GorkaMorka truck I'm going to paint up to be an piece of imperial hive furniture for my current terrain fest. It is unconverted but I am thinking of putting an eagle on the front and due to the size of Orks these days it looks just right for humans.
Any suggestions as to the colour scheme would be much appreciated? Not Red or Rust.
The rusty colour on the buildings are amazing, really well done. For the truck a yellow or ochre colour may look good. I can't wait to see more work on this thread
In fact I regret I didn't spot this update earlier:
last night I was spraying another module of the game table and such stripes would surely make it look more interesting
The storage tanks were made using thin card and plastic rod rivets. There is very little uniformity to the length of my rivets but I am of the opinion it doesn't really matter it will give the desired effect from afar.
Painting them...Sprayed with black undercoat, then a graphite coloured metallic spray. Drybrushed, boltgun, chainmail and a little mithril on the supports. The support strips were then given a quick wash of standard rust and then light rust weathering powders. Then a quick coat of purity seal. Then some rough weathering with Vallejo Smoke watered down to give a slight oil streaked effect at the tops of each tube.
it looks really great, at first i thought it was a nice printed out thing that you wrapped around a can, since the paint job was so convincing.. but i see it now and its cool
Nice job Pete! I love the scratch built tankers. Rivets... that is like the siren call for Dave. I am sure the king of rivets will let you slide on the random sized rivets
Hey Pete Really like the understated work on the towers , the simple addition of the Aquilla alongside the plasticard strips , is all they need , top minimalist work mate . The foot brideges and the cart are looking pretty funky too. does the cart have any intended role , game wise or is it just scenic.
Neil - cheers dude. I'm doing this stuff quick and effective. I've started painting the small oil barrels now...tedious painting the same thing 13 times. Ah well it is rewarding once they are done.
The cart is entirely scenic from my end but as to whether it works is entirely down to the gm.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Painted my Maxi Mini barrels, which really are nicely made.
Another careful highlight wouldn't hurt on either ones, but it's not like they'd need it.
Kudos, for working on such annoying stuff, I find it hard to come up with the will to do scenery, even though it breathes life into the game and is therefore always worth the effort.
Well boys others were a little more critical than you....so the finished barrels.
Nothing added to the blue ones....I quite like the idea that they are plastic. The green ones a little chipped white label, some rust and a couple of oil stains. I love Vallejo Smoke wash.
Ghostflame - if you're up this way I'd be happy to have you a game.
Great as always Pete! Maxmini does quality work. My altar pieces are from them. Plastic barrels look dynamite and your layered weathering is very convincing!
They look great Peter! I was kind of hoping you'd used my rust technique so that I could pretend that I'd contributed, but alas
The plastic ones are a stroke of genius, which I might steal if you don't mind. Have been having trouble getting them convincing as metal.
ALSO - You do realise it counts as torture in several countries to revive a thread like this without updating the scavvies themselves? I'm still waiting on those dogs...
Scarper wrote:

It's actually in the Geneva Protocol, believe it or not On the other hand, the barrels look great, so I'll be ok.
Ghostflame - I often wonder do USA really have big water barrels on freeways or do they only have big water barrels in freeways in action films involving a car chase?
neil101 - The barrels were painted Knarloc Green, Dry Brush Gretchin Green, Baal Red Wash, Thrakka Green Wash, Badass Black Wash, Light Dry Brush of Knarloc. Knarloc to highlight the bottom of some of the chips. Sponged on some Vallejo Smoke Wash. Then to answer your question Standard and Old Rust weather power mixed with water and wash on round the rings and edges. Purity seal varnish. Standard Rust stippled on dry. Then a little light rust stippled on dry to certain areas. Another light varnish from a distance to try not to blow the powder off. A few streaks of Vallejo smoke wash.
Scarper - I was going to use your technique but I couldn't be arsed walking to the art shop on the other side of town. When I visited my dad's house I raided his oil paints but he has run out of burnt umber. So I thought do what I know and just get on with it like I did the rest of my terrain,
As for torture....I have two scavvies undercoated for June and they will be getting hit with paint. The doggies will get done eventually...
Seems like a good weekend for getting terrain done. Well I've got mine finished (apart from the truck). Set over about 3' by 2'. I'm pretty happy how it has turned out.
Now it just needs something better to set it up on.
Rogue Wolves - Looking forward to seeing you on TV.
im enjoying this set right now! i love the color choices and all the nice levels and shapes (have you ever checked out dsteingass' necromunda terrain? could prove to give you some ideas)
demi_morgana - Cheers dude. Have to say that it was pretty easy to build (except for the rivets) and paint (if a little monotonous). Spray paint is they way of the future (or an air brush I guess if you have one).
Rogue Wolves - Thanks, I'm rather pleased with the set up too. Plenty of options. DSteingass' blog is fantastic. He is so lucky he doesn't have to flat pack his terrain.
PDH wrote:demi_morgana - Cheers dude. Have to say that it was pretty easy to build (except for the rivets) and paint (if a little monotonous). Spray paint is they way of the future (or an air brush I guess if you have one).
Wow, Peter, that's awesome! Had no idea you'd produced so much til you see it all together. Would totally invite myself down South for a game if I had the time
Love all the red tones though. And how did you do the floors? They look amazing!
demi_morgana - Yours is definitely bigger, looks good. But I think you might have overdone the bright silver paint! I'd attack it with some patchy grey and black sprays to tone it down a tad.
Where are your barrels from?
Scarper - Floors were cut out of plastic card. Added some extra plasticard details and rivets (I'll get a close up when I've recharged my camera). Sprayed them black. Then the flat ones I sprayed with GW Rough Coat. The Cross and Triangle ones were sprayed with Humbrol Acrylic Spray (Grey 064). A rough patchy coat of this was also applied to the flat one once the rough coat had dried. Cross and triangle were given a thin coat of Badab Black. The darker ares were picked out with a thicker coat of Badab Black and then Devlin Mud.
Then I masked off all the areas where the white lines are and roughly stippled on white paint.
Then roughly lightly sponged the whole thing with thinned Vallejo Smoke. Flicked on Badab Black. Added stains with a number of coats of thinned badab black and dev mud. Added a wash of green weathering powered to areas. On the darker areas I added scratches with a sponge using Boltgun and Chainmail. Round the rivets I added some run weathering powers.
Not proof read the above but it should give you the general idea...used my fingers a lot when adding the weathering and stains.

Well it's still wip I got whole a lot of barrels on wargame convention here but there was no name, just string bag full of the stuff.
So back onto the Scavvies.....they need to be playable - minus dogs and zombies by 6th October, (Sorry Scarps)
I should be painting the two scavvies at the back of the picture but Games Workshop have done it again. Another fantastic plastic character in a blister! This time the Goblin Shaman is getting an overhaul!
Originally I planned on having this little guy as a bog standard scavvy but when I got him perched on the rocks I found my winged mutant. I'm so excited I'm sharing a very WIP shot (doesn't even have a right hand yet). He sort of reminds me of a very ugly butterfly or moth....though he has bat wings.
Rogue - I should have pointed out that I am not using that head. I cut the nose off to see if I could use it but I never realised how much Goblins look like Orks, I'll be using one of the screaming ghoul heads.
While talking about ghoul heads I think I only have two left (without repeating/converting) which I've not used on the gang.
wow that looks exactly like an ork, that even though you said goblin i still thought ork! well then good choice on a head swap, the ghoul head will make it fit in nicely
Two Spartan/Rogue Wolves - tell me about it. Well and truly took me my surprise.
demi_morgana - Cheers well no paint on this chap until the two at the rear are painted.
alabamaheretic - Wouldn't want to be called a cheat by using teeny tiny grotz to make them harder targets. The extra height on the base brings them all up to sort of human height.
That's some real nice work there Peter...making him pint-sized keeps the overall high down when the wings are included which will really help with those cover saves...my winged lad is too big really, its hard to hide him in game I'll probably drop him from roster...
Wouldn't want to be called a cheat by using teeny tiny grotz to make them harder targets.
Alternatively you can just have some new extra massive scalies or mutants to balance it out. If I ever make a new techno model I fully intend to make her as tiny as possible, would be nice to say '...and he's going into hiding' without everyone just laughing at how ludicrous that would be.
I've never played Scavvies but I would have thought wings would work really well for a sniper type rather than a pistol type, fly to a good vantage for some easy shots. Although I suppose it also works great for a loot grabber. Are you having a Necro campaign?
Bruticus wrote:I've never played Scavvies but I would have thought wings would work really well for a sniper type rather than a pistol type
Mate, BS 2, say a -1 for cover or over-watch etc...crap choice of long range weapons...you won't be hitting anything hehe...the wings guy in my experience are yeah loot/objective runners or skirmishers to perhaps pick off that badly placed heavy or lone ganger. I play my lot like I imagein you'd play the pit slaves...all out CC/short range combat, maybe a bit of covering fire from the odd one or two who get lucky rolls as they move up.
Ah yeah, I was thinking you could give wings to whichever scavvy levelled up their BS but I guess it is unlikely to work that way.
Crap choice of long range weapons? You can get autoguns! I have one ganger with a basic weapon and she's always too busy to fire it. My 'fire support' comes from a guy with BS4 and a stub gun.
Generally speaking my pitslave tactics involve moving, hiding, hoping I haven't messed up and repeat. Eventually get into charge range and hope the other guy doesn't bottle before I get to kill something. I would love to play against some scavvies, I can imagine such glorious slaughter!
lol my heavy bolter guy was the man of the match by out right killing a guy and gaing a crap ton of exp. i do have pics of my gang on my dakka blog its in the sig. i would really like if either you (pdh) and bruticus stop by and tell me how my skin is cant seem to get a comment on it. either way talk you yall soon.
Bruticus wrote:Crap choice of long range weapons? You can get autoguns! I have one ganger with a basic weapon and she's always too busy to fire it. My 'fire support' comes from a guy with BS4 and a stub gun.

Yeah mate the autogun is the best you can get when starting out and with new rules you wont really have the cash to search for rares like bolt guns or las guns etc unless you capture some well armed grunts...and a needle rifle...no tech skills...forget about it haha
Yeah same here 'cept Scavvies can bring a handful of Zombies along to a scrap with can act as both meat shield and as an extra attack for mobbing fools!
I'll be building some Van Saar at some stage and will equip them for all out shooting coz I'd like to have a gang who use the opposite tactic too.
I've found that if you need cash you can usually depend on a caravan raid... although frankly that scenario seems really broken, especially for pitslaves who get hatred when they play it.
My friend has also built the shootingist Van Saar gang possible after losing repeatedly with a more balanced gang. Personally I think Necro is better without too many extremes and it seems like all outlaw gangs are best used in moderation really.
By the way with hiding it all goes on whether the base can be seen, so even a tall model can hide as long as they can get their base behind cover.
HZ -Cheers dude. Of course Gremlins 2 too. Tips for terrain....it needs to look good from a distance. Spray Paint, Weathering Powder and Vallejo Smoke wash. If you can spray on the base coast you'll save a shed load of time.
Ghostflame - I would just house rule it that the wings don't count. In "reality" he would fold them away when not flying.
Bruticus - For a winged mutant I think Ghostflame hits the nail on head... I'll also be using him for loot/objectives and to pick off odd gangers. Armament if it comes to it; Auto pistol since he will be getting close quickly for the +2 to hit; Sword to make him better in combat.
You cannot buy mutations except when you buy a new mutant....you might get lucky on the advance and develop a mutation on a scavvy but it is a random mutation.
The whole Fanatic Outlaw and Outlanders system doesn't work properly. Outlaws can be quite rich due to them not having to use that chart to work out income. I'm of the opinion that Outlaws and Outlanders should have gotten one of those charts too, perhaps with some differences. Outlanders need to be rewritten en-mass and play tested against each other and normal gangs. You can get a better hoard of redemptionists than scavvies WTF!?
Yeah there are definitely a lot of issues with the outlander rules. There is a whole thing about buying off your guilder price that is obviously not practical and pretty much pointless anyway as being an outlaw is pretty desirable. You get the impression they intended maybe 1 outlaw gang for every few house gangs as it doesn't seem like they even thought about outlaw vs outlaw.
And the income systems are certainly broken, you can quite easily earn 200+ creds in one game by winning the caravan raid with a large gang, and far more than that for collecting bounty on a valuable ganger.
The scavvies are back! The scavvies are back! You've even got a deadline for making a bunch of them! I'm so so excited to see these come back on the table - you've improved everything so much in the last few years, and these are still one of my favourite things you've done.
The new guy looks like he's off to a great start! Nice dynamic pose - he looks like he's just come to a gentle landing. I imagine he's on sentry duty and just headed up to investigate a noise up near the vents... Love the image of a very ugly moth Sounds like the head swap is probably a good plan though - I too am surprised by how orky that gobbo head turned out! The ghoul head should be a good replacement - not sure if screaming is the one I would have gone for, but I'm sure you'll change my mind.
*happydance*
So many images of Scavvies - have you had any more scavvy-related popcorn-invasion dreams? I still think it was the scavvy cheese that did it!
I'm even too excited to passive-aggressively mention the scavvy dogs
Scarper - Aye a deadline... I think the last two wips blunderbuss and shaman, a winged mutant, the boss, eye stalk mutant.....think I might also go with an Ogre mutantion too made from plastic savage ork boss and perhaps a couple of grunts with stubber and maul...think these two might even be female.
The scavvies really are quick in comparison to the Inquisitor Retinue. Due to the nature of Necro compared to Inquisitor - the same can be said of the models too....thought the boss will get loads of attention.
That's awesome news, Peter, thank you so much! It would be an honour - the scabbier and more flea-ridden the better I'm also really looking forward to seeing your female scavvies - not a pretty site, I would imagine.
Cheers for the blog link too - those wings look incredible!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Not sure if you've seen ashotninja's female ogryns, but hopefully they'll be less hideous than this lass:
RW - Yeah me too. I'll make sure the dog is wearing a balaclava with a wooly moustache too
Scarper - scabby - Oh yeah. Flea ridden - hmmmmmm I don't think I can make a GS flea.
Not seen the lady ogryn....eek it is hideous and awesome at the same time. I'm hoping the lady savvies will be prettier since they will have daemonette heads...on ghoul bodies.
Progress - a little. Got started on the orc warboss conversion....he has imperial guard shoulder pads on his knees and I've put the first layer of gs on his face to alter it. Wish I'd thought to use/ had a crypt horror head. Not sure about his weapon but might use something similar to the concrete block weapon on this fw ogryn http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Images/Product/DefaultFW/large/renogpost.jpg
The little guy is pretty much done but his base is proving problematic with the wings are attached. So that will have to change.
Winged Mutant WIP not a massive change from the previous WIP but a new head and things are actually attached.
Just need to undercoat him now.
Work on the savage orc warboss to scavvy is on hold until I get my hands on some crypt horror heads.....fingers crossed tomorrows post...come on Royal Mail
He looks fantastic! I was wondering about the wings, and how you didn't use the rest of the nid-arm... I actually like the "butterfly" look to the mechanics of it. And how they're ripped up... great conversion man, can't wait to see this gargoyle painted up!
Haha, I see one of you =][= Munda people finally found Nicklas' blog. Friend of a friend that guy, also slightly insane.. but very very talented and with far too much spare time on his hands.. the bastard.
Like how the Gargoylish mutie turned out PHD, I lurk in here on and then and enjoy the scenery. Keep up the good work.
Wow, PDH, I might have to do some Necromunda stuff as well now. You're just about to tip me over the edge with your great Scavies. I hope you're proud of yourself, mate
It's amazing, but he posted it on Dakka recently and not many people saw it! If I could get the search results to be a bit more useful in this forum I'd dig it out. We ought to have a system to spread the word about these things. The road is new though and looks amazing. I had been considering a road but I thought it would be too open for Necro, however with all those car wrecks it could well work...
Automatically Appended Next Post: (just in case you haven't seen this, this site was a huge inspiration. Check out Gothic > Rivers and Platforms especially)
What a characterful model! I'm super excited to see you posting here again, even if it's only a one off
He's a real beaut - I absolutely love the skin tone, reminds me of white tribal war paint and suits a shaman to a tee! The rodent skull necklace is creepy-ass as well, and a great voodoo-esque touch - did you sculpt those yourself? Great choice of colours for his robes as well - got to love some nice earthy tones. I've also got to wonder if he realises quite how much that bionic on his trophy is worth
Plus, may be entirely off the mark here, but is his name a reference to a really really old school 90s track?
Great work as always. And do I hear barking in the background?
Two Spartan - Yep Neil101 pointed me the direction of crackle paint. Awful stuff to use but looks good afterwards....after some washes and soot.
Scarper - I am trying to spend less time procrastinating online and actually do some modelling. The rodent skulls are actually part of the base model...Throt the unclean. I'm pretty sure he hasn't noticed the bionic eye....he is totally blind and yet the rat has a bionic eye hhmmmmmmm funny was the Ratspike do. I try and keep things nice and drab...but I think the brown part of the robes need one more highlight.
His name is indeed a reference to a certain 90's dance track...hence the spelling of Shaman....Anyone got any Salmon? Also threw in a bit of a Bond villain.
****pretending to have missed any reference to dogs and failed promises ****
Rogue Wolves - This is what happens when you root through a friends bit box and find an armless Throt. Cheers about WD.
STC_LogisEngine. Thanks I'm enjoying my 15 mins.
monkeytroll - Yeah it was so nice just painting something for fun rather than a game. Now I really fancy painting the little winged chap. But alas I am building a new Inquisitor for Molotov and an NPC, both for the Ammo Bunker Bash on the 9th March. Scavvy wise I want to get my mitts on the forsaken with tentacle eye head.....
Scary scavy! Moody and muddy! Great job!
On a side note, is there something wrong with your photography equip or with my screen settings, the picture looks a little pale.
He's great. I remember seeing the conversion a while back, cunning use of the rat tail.
From a gaming perspective I would personally hate to play against a scavvy gang with a beastmaster, another 3 pets to deal with! It's probably a very solid tactical choice but frankly I hate scavvies and all their bloody pets. Yes I just lost a game to scavvies the other night.
I also really like your bases, I've said before but the way that they blend into the gaming board is really good. I know it's a bit of an unusual complaint, but I really don't like the way that a lot of bases are painted with a black rim or something equally bold, it just serves to frame the model and make it stand out from the environment, same deal with models that are each carrying around a rock to stand on top of or something similar. I think your models have the perfect balance in their basing, you can see it clearly in this month's WD, your three dudes stood on the smokey scenery/backdrop - their bases are scenic without being weird little pedestals and the reduced rim means they fit in with their environment. It's something I plan to emulate.
Nice use of crackle paint, I saw that suggested for basing on a painting blog somewhere recently, it looks really good and I love the stuff.
PS are you really in Poland or just trying to shake off a tail?
Llamahead - The albino looks was inspired by JRN and his Inquisitor Velk....Jakob did explain how he did it but lost me along the way so this is where I ended up.
Baiyuan - Ummmm no idea mate. Just looking at the model and my screen and it does seem a little cooler in the pictures. I have recently bought a new painting lamp which is a colder day lighthttp://www.buybrandtools.com/acatalog/Daylight_Triple_Bright_Table_Lamp.html which is fantastic btw as recommended by okkiW and Steve Buddle.
Bruticus - Cheers mate. Best stuff I ever bought Vallejo Sandy Paste, paint it on going over the base edges and then neaten it up using a cotton bud.
From a gaming perspective I doubt the Scavvies would ever use a beastmaster. He will be a scavvy in the gang and a beastmaster if I ever want one for another gang.
Poland....Oh little flags are a bit random when I post from my phone.
Yeah, daylight bulbs are a must have. I have two of those cheapo ikea desk lamps with the best daylight bulbs I could find in them and I couldn't think of better lighting both for painting and photographing.
I wasn't planning on putting up this really early WIP but seeing as a pic of the gang turned up on the front page of Dakka I thought why the hell not.
This morning I have got some good progress done on the blue tac phase of my scavvy boss!!! I was holding out in hope of a finecast Warlord Spinetail but I need to the boss for a "Confrontation" in September.
You're really the king of building mutants and Scavvies, Peter! Fantastic job!
My one nitpick would be that the position of the sword seems just a little bit iffy: Maybe the whole lower arm should be rotatet to the left? Maybe you should give that a try before settling on a final position.
Anyway, great to see you're working on something new, mate!
Yggdrasil - Cheers. I've been wanting the boss to have a double barrelled sawn off shotgun from the beginning and the goliath one just wasn't big enough (on the model or next to all the over sized guns on the rest of the gang)! Moment of madness kroot rifles strapped together came to mind - BINGO!
KrautScientist - Oh you are such a flatterer . Not sure about the problem with the arm....it looks alright to me (for something tacked together). The main reason the arm is down is the sword is way to big for him but it looks more manageable resting on the ground. I also want the sword close to the body/over the base so it doesn't break off or be awkward for transport/storage. Plus the thing you have to remember about mutants is arms/legs/necks etc etc can be as twisted and odd as can be and still be right. While this is something new he has been in my head since Spinetail came out. It really feels like coming back to something old but in a refreshing way, also nice to be doing something out of the Dalthus Sector and Inq28 really (though obviously he will make an appearance there too). I'm having fun even though I have a deadline of 7th September.
TheFireDrake - Thanks. Nice getting a compliment from someone in my home town (unless you're from the Preston near Brighton but even then its nice getting a compliment).
demi_morgana - Ah Scavvy brother.....glad you said that. I am really excited by this model and doing the scavvies again for a little bit.
Ok so got him built over the last week. I am so happy with him, better than I envisioned in my head when I first thought of using Spinetail. My favourite bit is the "sawn off shotgun" and tiny trophy foot on the banner. Really looking forward to painting him, which I will start later this week. He didn't photo well reflection wise that is why he is in grey scale.
Scarper - I have also had a good idea how to make you. Sorry I mean Skavvy dogs since the wargs are just not doing it for me.
nathanie1 - The chain sword is from the Chaos Space Marine Raptors....with a little plasticard added to hide a cock up I made while filing off a chaos arrow. Thanks
migsula - Aye its strange seeing metal but even stranger modelling with it, I'd forgotten what a ball ache it is to cut up etc. But I do like it as a painting surface.....go figure.
Neil - Yep turning out grubby in paint too. Hope he kicks some ass on Saturday. Though since John is bringing along a frigging ogryn that might be a lot to ask.
Yggdrasil - One of the joys of leaving the painting until the last minute...steal ideas, sorry I meant shoulder pad from Kari
It was great fun.... 9 players, no written stats or points...just leaders and gangers WYSIWYG, , 3-4 characters each. Even being wiped out in turn three was hilarious because I have never seen Neil roll so many sixes before.
Well painted boss, even though a little hard to fully appreciate with the "white noise". The patina looks especially promising.
PDH wrote: It was great fun.... 9 players, no written stats or points...just leaders and gangers WYSIWYG, , 3-4 characters each. Even being wiped out in turn three was hilarious because I have never seen Neil roll so many sixes before.
Baiyuan - Cheers bud. I will get some better pictures tomorrow night.....think I worked out what I did wrong. The game was terrific, I'm really lucky to have met my gaming group.
Yggdrasil - Yeah 9 players, should have been 10 but alas Bruticus couldn't make it. Two sides, though tbh you can never really trust your comrades. I am sure there will be pics.....Neil took about 500 of them. It was an ace day and went on into the night.....I got to play Pop Up Pirate with JRN at about midnight in a bar!
Chelnov - Kari's gang were awesome....but hopefully Mikko will share some pictures of his gang....they are more awesome because of what he made! I hope there will be some pics soon.
Very nicely done Peter, wonderful skin tone and overall feel. Apologies for dropping in and out again lately, been meaning to say hello, I'll email you tomorrow at a more godly hour!
Yggdrasil - Any pictures?...211 of them on Neil's blog http://opusmaius.blogspot.co.uk/. I am totally blown away with Neil style of battle report and it is worth a read as well as a look.
I've been inspired by Grag and William over at Pontifex or here on dakka, if you prefer, to finish another scavvy. So instead of painting a big bloody slug today I knocked out Fink, the winged mutant.
Massively happy with the dark skin. I wanted him to be reminiscent of a bat. I imagine the problem I'll have is he'll be very well camouflaged on the battlefield I'll forget to use him.
I also tried to get some better shots of the boss...still not quite right but better
Yay! ...and there was much rejoicing in the land, for the scavvies had returned.....
Much as I want to see your nurgleslugfest done, I am pleased to see you come back here first
Fink looks great, nice skin tones and gorgeous base
What are you not happy with in regards to the boss pics...colour not quite matching RL, or just not feeling it's getting the character across? Looks Ab Fab to me.
Yggdrasil - Cheers man. The little goblin was just to make a winged mini mutant perched on a lump of scrap.
MoD - I'm afraid that Neil has removed his blogger again so the battle report is in the aether. Oh I'm really looking forward to seeing the new x-men.
monkeytroll - I needed a break from the slug. Its so freaking big. The slug is actually done for the most part and I'm about to start working on the champion....in the same style as the back of Fink's base. They say a change is as good as a rest.
Regarding the bosses photograph - I love the model and it was worth the wait to make him but I'm just not getting the vibe from the picture that I get from the model. I think it might be zoomed in too much...I prefer the image when I set my browser to about 70%.
Lamby - I'm glad he looks aggressive. I see him sitting on his perch screeching. The checkers - a tiny brush and the determination to have a shoulder pad taken as a trophy from Kari's Brat gang. Plus taking a whole lot of time with it and going back and forth with both colours until it was just about right. Don't ask me how Kari actually paints really neat and accurate checkers though....I think he's a witch!
Cheers Neil. Cracking wee read that. Absolutely beautiful gangs... I say beautiful but I actually mean revolting in most cases, but in the best possible sense!
Hope you guys are going to be that camera happy for your RoC game if that's still going to be a thing.
Is it weird to say I like the basing colours the most about these?
I guess the winged mutant got the crackle, wash and pigment treatment for the raised back part of his base? Perhaps a pinch of Tamiya Clear on there too?
The skinhead shaved-to-the-skull hair on the leader is another great touch, as is the cartoon heart on his chestplate.
Neil - So three mutants down seventeen to go! Cheers mate. Thanks for the resurrection of opus.
Mister F - The chest on the leader needed something....it was either a heart or a smiley face. The base was done like this...as I answered on Eastern Fringe:
The weathering on the base was done using Scorched Brown basecoat, Rust Pigments. Sealed. Covered in Tim Holtz Distress Crackle paint - Old Paper leaving bits of the base showing through. Washed it with Nuln Oil and some Windsor and Newton Orange as looked right. Then I look a modelling knife and chipped further bits off. Then added more weathering pigments until it looked right.
