Guys, don't get dejected about lack of comments in the beginning - just keep posting and updating, and try to post un-blurry pics semi-regularly.
There are two hurdles you need to overcome - eyeballs (actually having people look at your blog) and comments (getting those people to contribute)
Getting people to look at your blog shouldn't be too hard. Post on other peoples blogs - I often check out the blogs of people who post to mine. Make sure you have a link to your blog in your signature so that people can easily access it. But most importantly - make sure there is something there for them to look at! That's why posting reasonably regularly is so important - it builds up content. There is nothing worse than going to a blog with one entry and no pictures... (Posting regularly will also keep the blog bumped up to the top of the recent threads regularly)
The best way to get comments, once you have eyeballs (and even in maintaining eyeballs) is to ask questions. Don't just ask for comments and criticism - ask for specific advice - how do I do x? Should I do y or z? Which colour combination do you think would work better - a & b or c & d?
And whatever you do - don't encourage a page of posts about the lack of comments or anything else not related to your blog - this is a major turn off. Once you have a 250 page blog, or have a group of Dakkanauts that follow you everywhere - fine - but while you are starting off, try to avoid it.
If you have done the above and still don't feel like you are getting anywhere (I'd say give it at least a week) - PM some Dakkanaut's with similar blogs that are working for help and advice - you never know what might happen. (If you PM a DCM, and have made an effort, you may have a deluge of DCMs descend on your thread)
Hope that helps!
Keep up the good work HAZZER - looking forward to seeing how your Stormboyz and Trukk turn out.

For sharing your tips here are mine ; Some tips that I could give you is what I did is I would visit someone else's blog and put I love your blog (Or something like that but be truly honest all for the ones I've visited are really good ) and then say Hey how about visiting my blog too? (Link is in signature) then it’s up to them to visit your blog. Remember it’s about quality not quantity! This way has made me a nice long page's worth of text! Another good tip is to (This is what I had to do) perhaps rewrite your first blog post so It really tells readers what you want them to do. -i.e. Hi, this is my blog, I have made this blog because.... and I would really... if you commented on or, if you posted a reply because..... Thanks...
Use word for spell check and read you post again to check for grammar mistakes (Tbh I really bad at both )! Put links in your signature so your blog easy to get to or restart your blog if you don't get any replies. (I have started about 3! first I didn’t know how to upload pictures then did, only got 1 response that was for how to do the pictures. 2nd nil! 3rd well your here now!)

Oh HAZZER you tease! I see you have found the perfect level of blurriness - just focused enough to see how potentially awesome these are, but blurry enough to frustrate anyone wanting to inspect the details or generally admire!
repeat of everyone elses picture comments, but i think if your doing what i think your doing then it should work fine and i think you should do it on the other boyz. ive seen it done on Frawgs blog and it worked out pretty sweet. just try and keep the coulds a little more together so it looks like its shooting up rather then spueing out

Yup I'm doing smoke! I've take some off the leader to help define it a bit more and to show a tad more rocket.
better pics mate but still lot of work to produce better still... you have a good modeler in you... you just have to share your talent with us with better pics!!!
The smoke is looking much better now it is shaped And the pictures are coming along. This time of year early morning and evening photos are hard to take due to low light levels. What sort of set up do you use? What lights what sort of camera and what time of day? maybee we can help you get better photos ?
just noticed the arm changes youve done with the big choppa and the shoota, surprisingly subtle for orks conversion wise, very nice. i agree with victor though on the camera front
Are you too close to your models when you are trying to focus? Do you not half depress the button and it focuses and then press all the way when it is in focus? Even if light levels were bad they shouldn't be blurry. Like the Storm Boyz by the way!
Better, still room for improvement. If we keep harping on you about the pics it's only because our ability to give you good commentary depends on it. The better the pics, the better comments you'll get and the more interest people will have in your blog. This is a visual medium after all.
Back on topci, how do you get your foam to stay in the shape you want? Is there an internal wire or something to act as an armature?

Thanks man! I just use mu bedside light and the light on the ceiling, to get the pics. The first lot of pics where at night the ones toady were in the morning. My camera is a Canon PowerShot A460, which is a rather old make! However the camera can take good pics sometimes but I'm considering buying another if it isn’t too expensive! I believe you can get a light box of Amazon for about £10.00? I may need another light too? Thanks for the smoke anyway!
bigfish wrote:just noticed the arm changes youve done with the big choppa and the shoota, surprisingly subtle for orks conversion wise, very nice. i agree with victor though on the camera front
Yup I wanted to use some of my bitz up and I thought a subtle change would work! Should I shorten the shoota or leave it how it is? I did a conversion a bit like it with my boyz (Pic bellow feedback).

I zoom in normally either 4X for group shots and from 4X-10X for single group shots. I don't really understand what you mean with the pressing the button. Are you meaning I Take the pic when it’s in focus? Thanks about the stromboyz btw!

Thanks man! But still am learning how to take decent pics! Should I invest in a light box? (There about £10.00 on Amazon). I use flock for the smoke and what I do is I make a hole in the rocket ends (Using this point tool thing and files) and superglue some small wire in place. The main central rocket part has wire running all the way through it. (I should of taken pics but my camera was in the house when I was doing this). This makes 'a wire skeleton' to where the flock can go. Then I add PVA glue and put the flock on in place. Hope you under stand this. (It may call for another article)"

Got it. Thanks Haz. I light box does help, but it won't help with your focus. I don't know what kind of camera your using but it may be worth your while to invest in a little tripod first. I'd start digging through your camera owners manual and start looking for things like delayed or remote shutter control and macro settings.

It's a Canon PowerShot A460 which is a rather old make. How much should I spend on a tripod? What type? I'll try to look for that manual and re-fresh my memory on the settings!
It does not need to be an expensive tripod. I just use a thick coaster and stand my camera on that to give it a little elevation. If you hold.it in low light the exposure will be longer and therefore morality to blur from small movements while.you take the photo. one option i use in real low light that could work for.you. Place your camera in position. then get it in focus, i think what Reaper Man 2020, was that the button you press to take the photo can be pressed a little (not enough to take the photo) This will focus the camera. You can then use the timer option to take the photo. Thus eliminating hand wobble. If you find it will not focus close up. try looking for the macro function on your camera. (looks like a small flower) this will allow the mini to be closer to the lense when you take.the photo. (hope this came out alright. as im on my mobile. )

Thanks man for the tips,
I've never use 'the flower button' before and I've just done a test pic and works really well! I normaly balance my-self then take the pic, I do somtimes use the focus however, not not normally!

You could get a nice cheap small tripod like This or This
The "flower" macro function is great for taking close up in focus pictures of minis, as long as they are lit well, as you cant use the flash or the picture will be over exposed.
I tend to use my mobile for my WIP pictures, as i steady it and keep them well lit. This did not work with my old phone (Iphone 3gs) but works fine with my new one (Samsung Galaxy SII) One benefit is that I can upload multiple photos at once to my dropbox account then download them at work for my updates.
When I have a finished model, ill then bust out the real camera and take some better photos. I even have a card board box on the side and some white tissue paper to build my self a light box.
I'm sure there is an article or a Tutorial on here some where. But basically cut big holes in both sides of a box and attach white tissue paper over the holes, point light at either side, and put in suitable back ground in box BAM you have a light box

Hi guys, Update! I bought his original rouge trader rhino the other day from a modelling fair, and have managed to take it apart but have also managed to wreck it in the process! So I have a Dilemma, Should I replace the inner wall things with plasticard, leave em, or somehow find original/or reproduction replacements off eBay ect? On the bent pieces above the exhausts and the side railing have also been damaged, I may replace these with wire (I have also drawn what the piece looks like in red) .However, I have got 4 bolters and a bolt pistol which I still can use! I am wanting to strip this because I didn’t originally paint this, I'm wanting to go old school, yet this can drive either my HG or sternguard (Which I will use the bolters for).
What do you feel? Do you think you have the skill to make it look good doing it yourself? I would not if you dont think so because your eyes will always see the bad job of plasti card and wont be able to enjoy the model.
First off. Congrats on the find! They are a dying breed! On the broken inner wall, if it still meshes up with the hull, I would just glue it. If it kind of pushe the track unit out a bit, can you just clip off the part that is making it do that? Otherwise, I had one do something similar not too long ago, and I replaced the whole inner wall of the track section with 1mm plasticard. It worked pretty well.
On the exhaust pipe, I replaced all of mine with gargoyle heads from the chaos Rhino box. You could do something similar, but keep the clean lines and use a straight piece of Plastic rod, and drill some holes in it. It would probably look better than the existing exaughts anyway, I always thought they looked a bit weedy.

It would probably look better than the existing exaughts anyway, I always thought they looked a bit weedy.
Thanks RSJake, I may use plastercard then! It's not like I'm going to sell this and tell evrybody its been reapired!
congratz for that nice buy... you brits have all the luck... here in germany we never get to see that stuff on any fleamarkets or fairs...:(
i´d go the plasticcard route... also i would look GS directly in the eye!!! my own rhino lies still in a cupboard and waits for his day to be healed anew...it was a khorne rhino i get rather cheap and i reloylisted it so to speak...it was doable but i too hurt it quite a lot...but i guess with some love it will be better than before...and don´t forget to add rivets^^

LOL! Thats why you have Ebay!I may do the plastercard, but it will only be to fix it, I'm thinking of using plastercard but still keeping the oringail plastic. This I feel is improtaint to me to keep I'll post up a pic when I get home to show you what I mean.
monkeytroll wrote:Nice find, it was a sad day when the Vindicator kit was finally replaced
As the others have said, plasticard for the hull - if it needs it, tubing for the exhausts.
Really? What did the old kit look like? I'll use either wire/brass rod stuuf or plastercard tubing.
spudkins wrote:you looting that tank? That exhaust problem can be solved. Cut them all off and drill into the plastic with a decent sized drill bit. WE HAVE A HULK
No I'm afraid not, I'll be using this rhino for either my Sternguard or Hounor Guard squads in my SM army. I may leave all of the still intact exhausts alone, what do you think?
Stripping is so easy. I do it loads.
Buy this for £1-2 brother.
http://i00.i.aliimg.com/photo/v0/100177398/Dettol_Antiseptic_Liquid.jpg Simply use a tub with a lid like a lunch box. Pop the model in for 48 hours at least. Then remove models and use a tooth brush or small brush to remove the excess paint. wash the models after in warm soapy water Bang done.
I say cut the exhaust off and replace with holo plastic tubes.
anything else I can help you with?
peace
Hadn't posted - on topic - here in a while. Thinking of scratching out some preheresy tanks like this. Old school rhinos and land radiers, may even purchase one of the Proteus landraiders to that end....

The current vindicator was released years after the current rhino, the previous kit was the Mk I Rhino with metal add-ons, so was the only way to get hold of old-skool rhinos for may a year I only have one left unopened, once that finally gets done I'll need to start scouring e-bay.
I always recommend Fairy Power Spray for stripping models Spray, leave for 10 minutes, scrub with an old toothbrush. If it's very old enamel paint it sometimes needs a second go. Works on acrylics and enamels, on plastic and metal.

1 Birch coffee stirrers are 28mm scale for either 2x4 or 1x4 nominal lumber.
2 Spackle makes for a decent "mud", texture when it's about 1/2 dry and it will hold its shape in a similar way to wet clay rich muck.
3 Spackle is stupid tough when sealed with PVA glue mix (50/50 glue to water)
4 Paint the earthen walls of your trench-works BEFORE you add your wooden, or metal cladding.
5 2" thick foam is almost 1/8th of an inch taller than a Terminator or most standard GW infantry.
6 Sculpey makes for easy sandbags.

Thanks vik man! Its supursing the amount of plastacard stuff I have! 1 I beam 1 bit of L beam, some sought of criss cross thing (Which you woul use in large warhouses suporting the roofs). Hollow plastic tubbing, textured and none textured plastercard! Wow that was a long list! The amout of spare bitz is anouther story! I may get some of the squared rot in the future but for the time being I've only got rounded! (I can allways cut it from a bit plastacrd instead).

But there my be a chance that I'll be able to get him back, because my local GW still hasn’t decided what to do with em! I've also got 2 25th anniversary figs too! (1 for me and 1 for eBay)! Finally I've bought some Kaki green/brown shaded pant. Which are flames of war brand British Armour. I also found my battlewagon pics on the web I'd show you but PC not letting my sae the whole screen shot!

Lol! Will send out today! (Joke)! I only just managed to get 2 because GW were only letting get 1 and ou would have to wait for an hour or so and I wanted 1 and to sell 1 on ebay! And I was surprises that my FLGS put 2 behind for me! Note quailty contorol was rubbish! Air bubble's every where! There is a chunk of a shoulder pad missing, holes in the rock, more air bubbles the clear box wassent formed proppley! (I'll do a reviewn once I have got anouther blister and boxed to make a fair verdict, but the quailty on the boxed ones is not as good atm).
Viktor von Domm wrote:cool minis...how much did you have to pay for them?
and do you expect them to be a really collectible item? i have no clue to be honest!
The retail was £20 each and I got en for £18 each from my FLGS. Don't know how much they were in erous!
