for that modell i suggest serious conversion... it looks way too bland for my own taste...
I am afraid I dont follow the last bit. Do you paint the tops of the jet bike fancy? I do intend so.
what i meant was... the way you did that faceplate of your last modell... i would like to see the front shields of these bikes in the same fashion... as i think that look would be awesome ontop of these parts!

Ah i see what your saying.. him.. I don't know if I will it will look to abnormal. However that purple is going to be all the soul stones! so have no fear it will be in there.
So in other news things happened today. Its in the supply drop. Also got a third ferret today! that is right, one more in the litter. Its kinda crazed right now so I am hoping the other two will help it work in.
Anyways, we also have to make a tomb stone. Panda's computer chair has died, a horrible, and sad death. its photoed.
Well, remember you can never have too many shiny GW things. I tend to keep buying stuff until my wife threatens to throw me out a window. A closed window.

Ahahahaha. I don't jniw if I should cry or b happy you never have had that happen
Thank you groggeron. Welcome to the thread! stick around. Here is an update for you guys. The armor is now finished that bone is a ton of work on such a huge model. I will now be working on the fins and cannon to finish him. I have an apoc game to play tomorrow. Da boyz is gonna fight ard.
Is the scatter laser supposed to go under the arm, or is that a modification on your part? I thought they were supposed to be on the shoulders, but where you have it is cool.

its an option you can do. No kit bashing at all. Thanks!
Sorry I haven't been around painting.. I did get the photo booth in, haven't used it. Been busy getting my army together. I will post a picture of what is going on tomorrow night. I was just wondering I you guys would like me to post my battles for the tournament on Saturday. I would take a poll, but I am meh about it. I know many of you do not care for actually playing warhammer 40k.
I wish you luck, and would love to hear how you do, but yes a report would be lost here too. I have tried reading some peoples and well, I get bored. It's one of those "you had to be there" things for me.
Need more nice pictures here though, and would not object to seeing your army on the field as a nice picture.
Not to put a total skew on the thing as the third person to respond and the third person that doesn't play... but I would be interested in seeing how the army performs. Good luck.
Viktor von Domm wrote:Well i would congratulate you for your winnings, be a shoulder when you loose, But dont expect me to understand what was the report about

Alright I think I know what I will do to make up a lack of photos.

I know. It is hard to see good bat reps these days. A few of them out their are good and keep you interested.
Here is what I am gonna do. Simple picture of the match up, and maybe one of an important moment. Just so you guys get to see some unpainted mini's do their thing. And give the win/loss record. If i lose this Tourny I am not disheartened, I have 2 more tries next weekend. And some time to paint!
I don have much to contribute as I don't play either , but the bone is great, and it looks like an impressive war host assembled on the table. I always wanted to do eldar, but they just aren't insane enough for me. The harlequin aren't insane before anyone starts that debate, they are just artsy fartsy.
Dr H wrote:The booth works well. Nice work. Bone is looking good and the army will be very nice once everything is painted.

BATTLE TIME
Alright so here is the match up line ups.
Game 1 Dead Dar VS Black Templar = BURN THE WITCH. Ya right I smacked that butt. its mostly old codex. The game was great, many laughs.. killed one character "Grimmie" 16 times.. he just kept reviving. We laughed as I killed him 6 times in one turn.
Some pictures
Spoiler:
Game 2 Dead Dar VS Tau = HOLY BATMAN DID THIS GUN LINE TURN TO CHEESE.
If you look in the photos you can see my foe deployed rather reserved as my army is very punchy and tau is very shooty. If you are unaware Tau fight with the equal of pillows in combat and I wield your flavor of fisty cuff death. So naturally he deployed behind his wall he brought and the big guns. It was a sound plan, but my bullets were mighty and true. He lost more than half his army in one turn of my shooting on the first turn! it was rather amazing. Pictures of deployment.
Spoiler:
So the first two games went great. I am aiming for first or second going into the third round. Sadly this is what we call a bad match up. The Dark Elder ignores my strongest power of my army. Thier toughness. So in a giant bloody slug fest I nearly lose my whole army, I kill 80% of his. I lost with 4 objectives held to 1 objective. All in all it was a great game, and also my first against Dark Eldar as in my 5 years of playing I have never played them. Ha! go figure. Andrew and I are going to get a rematch in, and we know the results will be different.
Spoiler:
So with my huge defeat in the last round I slide from taking first or second to 4th place! Oh no! and not by much.. pesky paint scores prevented me from taking third place! It was about a 2~ battle point difference.. Ah well! However....
I still qualified.
Thanks to the kindness of a player simply named John, who is a fantastic player! He solves rule problems well in my opinion, and does such with ease. His nids are often a great challenge in mind, sadly we never meet on the tournament field. John gave up his position and as the next runner up I got it. I am still going to go to the other qualifiers and get some dang painting done! I placed 4th out of 20~ players pretty happy about that.
Looking good. Looks like you have a very formidable force there. So you get penalties for unpainted models?
Thank you for the report, I enjoyed it. Noticed we did not see much of your nemesis (the dark elder) in the pics.
Got to say in the first 2 matches your army looks very impressive compared to your opponents. I mean that your models look intimidating compared. Poor Tau player cowering behind the rocks. "Don't move maybe they will go away!!!!"
4th out of 20 is great. Is that your first tourney with this army? If so that's really great and bodes well for the future.

Do you have more matches today?
Its not so much penalties as you dont get as many points. You get points for basing, and painting skill and a display up to 8.7 battle points. I got 3.3 battle points for painting the player who took 3rd got 7.5 painting battle points. He painted alright, but had his entire army done! a real underhanded situation. Those paint points gave him 3rd.
This was my first GT tourny with this army. I took first at another tourny, but the list was very different. Yeah, this army is tough and good. About those pictures! It was really late like 8:30 pm and I was to busy thinking of how to not die! Andrew and I will play again and see what happens (will do a full rep)
Danke on the force.
Casey's Law wrote:That's going to be an impressive looking army, mate!

Dr H wrote:Good job Panda. Congratulations on doing well. That's a mean looking army of your's there. Nice report, interesting.
Its not quite a report. If you look at bat reps on dakka mine was just the deployment, and a small recap. Simple for those who don't play. Also just to give scope into the game. In the future I will do reports more in depth.
inmygravenimage wrote:Good rep, sounds like there was a good attitude along there and your army is nails.
Its nails for many other armies, but Tyranids and Dark Eldar will give me a hard time.
but what i have to say... you had some awesome tables to play on... that lava board and that red rock something... brilliant looking...on such tables it is no wonder you coud enjoy playing... and then with a good oponent... winning whike your loosing... tho... you won a fair amount even... so winning while your winning
Dr H wrote:Even just the deployment can say a lot about an army, like those fire warriors hiding behind a hill (the cowards ).
Look forward to some more in-depth details about how your army works.
I will happily fill you in there. A simple over view is my army is "tough" the largest models the knights are immune to many weapons such as the bolter. My foe usually has to roll a '6' to inflict damage on me, and I can usually ignore it easily.
I am slow, so I use the Eldar transport to make my army fast, my range is short, again I use the transport to get in the range I need. My weapons are the some of the most lethal in the game, but I am a low body count.
I use my HQ to buff a unit or two to make them even harder to kill and move on with life.
Viktor von Domm wrote:now these battle reports even i could enjoy^^...

I can live with a loss. Especially when I never faced that army before. It was a good old fashioned 'surprise' and about two mistakes were made no big deal. Just sad did so bad I fell to 4th place from first or second.
....pretty sure you wanted me to do a painting update.. WELL here is a small one..
I AM ON VACTION FOR a few days DAYS that is like 24 hours of PAINTING TIME to PAINT FOR painting's sake, but hai stick around things will happen, I also get off work in a half hour
Alrighty then! did some painting. This model has so much detail it hurts..
things left to finish on it
Free hand some symbols and dohickeys
highlight the black
maybe more base detailing like a tree/bush.
Weathering.. got to get my pigments in and some varnish finish.
i agree... tho... your orks had a totally different approach... so we can´t actually compare apples and pears...
but that giant looks simply dashing awesome!...
and i am actually a bit unsure if more plantlife would make the base look cooler... maybe a small scenic addition rather? a guardsman standing in awe gawping upwards?
Dr H wrote:Nice work Panda. Look forward to the little details, but it's very nicely done.
Base is nice. Good work on the stone. But could do with something taller than the little patches of green.
Yes.. perhaps a small amount of busying can be done.
40kFSU wrote:I think this is the best guy I've seen you paint. Really good. I'm digging the base too.
Thank you 40k. I really appreciate it. The base is just a bit of green stuff, glad you like it.

Orks to Eldar haha, Orks are also a larger number, harder to give them a paint job of justice when their is so many. I am thinking a space marine. With the marines getting a new codex, and models right around the corner I can do a simple one.
ach... you have done posh... and before that you have been hilarious and cool... and even before that you have been cool and heroic... going the super duper way.... pffff.....

You got it! The rebels! it is and i used some to a lovely effect.
Viktor von Domm wrote:lol...with docs comment in my backbrain... i think then it should be a snowy table? yes?
also... if you use the pigments like that... wouldn´t plain sand have been less expensive?
The pigments are finer than most sand, and siftting something that fine and dying it is a Pita i dont need to deal with. I bought the whole color lot because i had the spare monies. But here see what i have done with some pigments and static grass!
Well this was taken when the chemicals were still setting, hence the foggy swamp. Also at sunset under wall. It is a 2x2 panel so It doesn't fit in my booth. Day light picks are in order.
Alright As requested better skull pics. Because lets face it, its a no brainer!
Any who.. i took a photo prier to my last bit of touch to the pool. It just didn't seem grim dark enough so I darkened it and wanted to add a bit of depth and pit bottomless feel. A blue wash was used on top of the resign. A second resign coat maybe applied before tonight/after this update.
Alright As requested better skull pics. Because lets face it, its a no brainer!
lol...
but your detailshots and then the full scale ones now look way better... the skull pits look rather yucky with that green rim...
Thanks, its to be algee and the sort. I have added a second layer of water to add even more depth and some tid bits to give the more so illusion of plants. Will post updated picture of finished peice.
inmygravenimage wrote:Interesting to see a Rob with grass! Looks rather spiffy. They're a bit of a beast to paint aren't they?!
It is actually easy and fast to paint them. For me it takes about 45~ minutes. The grass takes a good 15 minutes and a swore arm.
No one does a Rob with grass? How odd.. I hope it transports well.
It looks great comradepanda , the weathering/wash really tied up the look . Love the last picture it really looks to me like he finish guy is picking on another guy with no arms.....poke whoopsies you fell over . I would never endorse this.....but might laugh

The last pic' looks to me like he turning to the other one and saying "What the **** happened to you?"
I remembered something I read over at the Painting and Modeling forum. It was a thread about a guy who varnished his army and the models turned cloudy and gross. One of the responders said to re spray with a different kind of varnish. Testors Dullcoat, maybe. The second coat fixed the problem and models looked good as new. May be worth your time to try and find the thread and try it out.
Viktor von Domm wrote:Use a bettered fine sanding paper, this might work...
I cross my fingers for you...
the knight survived for the most part. Small amount of touching up need, I may need to break the head off and repaint it, but the body is ok.

I did exactly that. The foggy ness went away, but I have a very rough finish. Hoping some brush coat and mineral spirits will fix it.
I have no idea if this will work, but if I am working on wood, and I get a bad coat, I wire wool and wax it. Kinda French polishing. Works a treat. Strips back a layer, polishes it smooth. Not sure if it will work in a model. A small abrasive pad, and some bees wax, maybe worth a go.
I know varnishing screw ups can be totally demoralizing, but clear pictures of what happened will help in giving the correct advice/instruction to fix it. Cloudiness, for example, usually results from the spray varnish drying before hitting the model. The cloudiness comes from the light hitting an uneven surface. It can often be fixed with a layer of gloss varnish - which will smooth out the surface and make everything well again (and then you can reapply a matt finish) But without pics, it's hard to say that this would be your best course of action. Post some pics up. Let DakkaDakka re-moralize you
Huzzah! the dark gods favour me. I saved the mini. I used some mineral spirits and a paper towel to buff the varnish and smooth it out. It isn't perfect, but the guy went from ugly to pretty. Keep that tip in mind.. also.. a quick photo for proofs. He isn't perfect any more, but he will play.

Mostly NMM, I started off with a lead belcher base, and then used greys to make all the shimmer to a white. Those are indeed decals. Not ashamed really, those things are tough to get to look right.

40kFSU wrote:Never seen Eldar who have been weathered. It's really original and looks great!
yeah, weathered Eldar are rare, and I want mine to look old/really dirty. I am glad you think so!
So I sat down and painted from about 7p.m until bed time, and got a squad of wraith guard about 60% completed... nice to know I spending about an hour a model. Then again when the core of your army is 15 models
Yeah, I will finish that unit tonight, homework barring.
An hour a model is quick, I take a minimum of 2 hours on a "quick" SM, and that's with production lining them and not trying anything fancy on them...
Always takes longer than you expect.
Yeah, definitely know that feel. I have painted 3 horde armies.. quick and dirty cuts out a lot of love.
I am using some more Eldar symbols on the head, and it kinda looks like a small screaming face... thanks internet... I will see If I can some more decoration to undo such effect.
Production line painting feels the most effective however, while your work takes longer, when you finish you have a unit done. Nothing to complain about there. I am debating if I want to paint every single lump on the wraith vane (spike back thing) as a soul stone or note. I am slightly reluctant to even paint one soul stone on them.
Reason is they are built to be a tank, and are powered by a soul stone. It wouldn't make sense for them to have their power source on the outside exposed. (However, I have already painted the wraith knight said way) I leaning towards the yes I should, and just get over myself.
Very nice panda, very nice. I feel you on the hoard armies. I may try something different on my next project too. May change the way I paint. Anyway, I can tell yours skills have really improved since Volra.

are you saying this from the weathered perspective or the most recent pictures?
shasolenzabi wrote:The black areas could use some of that highlighting I guess

There is grime there, but due to the nature of the color/photos it doesn't show well. I could try to use a lighter pigment, but I must finish this army by the 10th of October.

Finally a use for fantasy figures , which is sad as I started in fantasy and loved it, but the cost of a fantasy army is stupid. My brother in law used to play, and now wants to build a KOW fantasy army. He's got me interested.
Back on topic.... Really love the look of the bodyguard. And those weapons
From the more recent pics it seemed the black areas were basically plain black, and the highlights on edges and ridges were hard to see or find, I myself use subtle highlighti9ng and do not go crazy as others have (Tau crisis suits camouflaged, but so over highlighted as to look like a bad crystal) comes to mind, but your big guy seems to have none on the feet
Glad you think so Cam. Still got much work ahead of me. I am going to complete another miles stone perhaps tomorrow, to finish off my heavy support and complete the second wraith knight.

And with the addition of such a (sp)raygun you will be able to do that in no time!
Great showcase army comradepanda . Really worth the wait on the pics. Haven't heard of that airbrush kit, any reviews will be great once it's up and running.

Yes iminmygravenimage gave me the perfect idea thanks! I am glad you like the army.

I got it set up to the point where i can add paint/ learn to clean it. I got the air brush for dummies (not the guide) just a simple double action trigger system; not the traditional double action. I will swap up once i master this simple brush. So far i am super happy with the purchase. The compressor is great, fairly quite and supplies perfect continuous air flow.

They would want to on nom nom nom me, but they would be sad to find out i am ard and not chewy.
Theophony wrote:Thanks panda, I need to get a new compressor myself, one specifically for airbrushing.
This works fantastic... speaking of! here is some stuff i play with using the air brush. OH and pictures of most of the armies i fought/in game pics/omg eldar apoc

Where you distracted by the young ladies in Picture no.5......looks like a couple of your models are sidelined there!!!
Actually that was my foe's family and girl friend. Perhaps one of the weirdest games of my life. Those models that are side lined are dead. The knights died early game, but I pulled out a win from the jaws of life. (As you can see by my 13 models left on the table to his 4?)
i was wondering about the amount of the fairer sex at this game too... probably the strongest girl boy ratio in favor for the girls all around the word at this table...

Second to yeee. I am for girl gamers (in fact 1 was playing, and winning at the open tournament. I fought her boyfriend.. he just had a horrible game.)
I wish girls were more included in miniatures, and seems to be growing. I see more girls playing every few months. At my school i press for as many girls as possible to join. Because really.. equality matters.
couldn´t agree more... beside...I have seen females paint minis here...like weety or ilfana and it is a mindblowing work...they (in my opinion) have a different approach to schemes and such things...

Yeah, but just because they are girls doesnt make em great paints
Also.. for those who care I actually made the top 20 at FoB
Enough talk of girlies, lets see some more nice close shots of that paint job. And where is the rest, are there more to come, or are we back to proper service from the great and powerful Panda and I should be looking at your ORKS!!!!!!

My Orks are gone. They went off free booting on me. They gave some $$$ fo the loss, but they ran out the door happily waging another waghh. There is more to do and paint here, I am going to paint a few marines post some photos, and this plog may just turn into a speak easy of all my work. And a new shipment of Astartes will be walking in.
Theophony wrote:We will see more painting from comradepanda, or I send the panda hit squad out.
Ho needs accuracy when you have a minigun
Not much on the painting front been working on a commission and school work. Anyways here is a teaser of a captain who is coming along. I broke my air brush and now cant finish my librarian because of it. He is left off with a bad case of Cheeto fingers. Luckily spare parts for the brush are in the mail and should be here soon.
A huge model supply drop is also underway. Vik will swear I robbed a bank. I plead the 5th.
40kFSU wrote: Well, expanding to SM? I don't think I've seen your take on them yet.
Yeap, doing a loyalist/chaos army for more codex play. I give you Mr Cheeto hand. He is really about to cast me some fire magic, but he will always be known as cheeto hand.
Cheeto hand looks good. The whiskers really give him character.
On a totally random note, I have been up all hours with the newborn. Been watching lots of old Steven Segal movies. Is it just me or do those movies get funnier and funnier the more you watch them? They aren't supposed to be funny though. Weird.

Danke! i think you mean the 5 o clock shadow.
Dude, the uzi down the stairs sends my sides reeling. Good luck with your new born?
It is possible you are just suffering from severe nervousness and having a mild panic attack that is being alleviated by laughter, a common natural solution to a problem, but I am no doctor. I kid I just wanted to cause some trouble.

Punched the cheese out of the tuna surprise . What force are you rolling with the big "E's" kids? Are you using codex marines or codex lets piss on chaos players for another edition .

I did read you right, you already ruined your AB ??? How, why? Damn...and cheeto...sniggers...funny pose indeed...the captain that's still unfinished is sporting some damn fine metal works there...
15 Phoenix terminators (Emp Children special dudes)
1 Fulgrim Primarch
3 Comtemptor Dreadnoughts + trimmings (22~ arms and missile launches)
15 Legion Lascannons
some weapons, and more.
I was at miniature market yesterday and almost bought the new eldar box set with the wraithknight, 2wraithlords, and 15wraithguard. Luckily they have dreamforge stuff otherwise it would have been ugly. Also found out they are moving close to my house as in walking distance.
Viktor von Domm wrote:Whoa...where is all the money from that you are able to spent so much cash for this lot of awesomeness???
I gather you will have now some more free time now as finals are over?
finals are just about to start in two weeks. I was procrastinating productively. I rob banks, don't you know? Not really. Bank robbing is hard, it just easier to work. And by work, I mean to grow my dosh bushes.
Theophony wrote:Can't wait to see the awesome purpleness .

Is that the sound of your wallet being damned? Sure sounds like it. Should have bought it, and send the surplus marines
To all joining, painting will happen in the near future, around dec 10th.
Viktor von Domm wrote:well... i came locked and loaded too
I would be worried if you didn't.
inmygravenimage wrote:22 arms? I demand... Octodread!
Sorry the Orks is gone now. Your demands will not be met. I however will try to make some rockn'roll noise marines.
Sorry all lame text update ahead. Leave now before its to late.
I am slammed until about December 10th. I got two major coding projects, and 2 commission jobs to tote through before I can get back to my models. Oh and finals.. because that is about to start. College life. It does the worse to us.
Thank you all for the support/comments. You guys are great, I know many of you need to have another visit from me soon. I promise I will get there.
40kFSU wrote:Well, I think it's worth the wait. You don't disappoint.
What do you program computers? A tech guy? Anything more advanced an this iPad I am fumbling with is beyond me.
I am a "tech guy" I program many things, cell phones and computers are just some.

I return once more from the land of busy. News today
I quit 1 job. 2 is much more manageable. I made much progress on a clients commission. 3 my birthday present arrived.
What did I get you ask? Just a small something something...
That big eldar thing.. you know the ELDAR REAVER TITAN
Pics? Here... keep scrolling.
Dakka are you not amused? I am
I would like to mention that your run of the mill Reaver titan fits in a soup pot. And I need about a half gallon of liquid green stuff.
Cooking an eldar titan seems the first sensible thing on this thread... kidding of course...that will be something to really brake loose with an AB...hope you soon have lotsa time to work on this instead of working for money or grades ...
Dr H wrote:Nice. Good to see you back. Happy Birthday for whenever that was.

Adding salt and chili tomorrow, maybe some potatoes who knows. . It is getting there I only have about 40 models to paint.. sesh.
well...if you say potatoes...I see an ork tata-stompa coming up
well you must have more time now for hobby since you quitted on one job and someone loves you so much to give you an elder titan...(if someone gives you that for free...really...where is the point now in working for money ? ...*coughs*)
