When I see a kitbash/conversion I make my judgements based on the following:
1. Can I do that?
2. How well could I do that?
3. How much swearing would be involved?
Just something to think about.

Reminds me of 3rd edition lootas actually Very cool, and why wouldnt that work as a Bigshoota? A heavy bolter and a big shoota have the exact same stats dont they?

Its a good list to make, i normally find the 3rd lacking in my book however

Post by: Viktor von Domm
just one minor nitpick comrade... the gap between the backpack of the first gunner and the bolter amobelt that is connceted to the bolter... you have a bare amo part stuck inbetween... if possible i would change that... i dunno how this could work...or... you could suitably ork it up a treat... try to make it look as if the two parts have to be bound together by string/wire... as of now the second is way more convincing... tho i absolutly love the idea behind the conversion!
and for the later to be helmet design... make him a tribut to this guy...:
sadly i forgot the callsign of that one...

Hmm helmets have been something that always bothered me with this army. I feel that the simple dome helmet retains the orky feel/nature and conveys the semi american look of it. I have tried the orginial toy army man conversion. It was not that fantastic for the amount of effort placed in.
As to the ammo belt you currently have upset, the conversion wasnt half done, i am glad you caught it and didnt feel it quite right, and by my nature it is not quite right!. i will be correcting nowish.

and by my nature it is not quite right
wouldn´t dream of putting it that way mister!
mere pointing out some ideas i had
as for the head issue... any ork heads from third party dealers possible as a replacement then? tho this would mean a money drain where it isn´t really needed... OR... how about making a satisfactory head with the right helmet and then pressmould it and later on just pressmould it on any other head?

The press mold head is something i tried, i would just have to sculpt a helmet from scratch, and over all i feel the current helmet is suitable. But i will attempt to do a contrast. Another aspect is faces, the helmet ork heads very with 15 faces, the non helemt face ones vary by 8. Please do keep the ideas flowing Vik, i am always open to a aspect i didn't touch.

using the ork codex there is the name, Tuf Nob - which is a rough fitting for glory. Another could be Mor Nob

Hey guys here is a simple battle report. i have over 30 photos...so ya not all of them on making it on here.
Anyways here is the deployment!
So what you see is the deployment
Here is what happens
Game orks get Feel no Pain near objective trait, guard get ferious charge in enemy deployment.
Turn 1 - orks deploy first
Orks move up the middle nothing exciting, lots of climbing onto the fortress of redemption.
Lootas kill 4 fire warriors.
Bikes move up the flank and kill 8 guard, fail to charge, no over watch damage.
Turn 1 - guard
Everything fires into the bikes, scoring first blood.
Fire warrirors kill 4 orks moving in the open.
Guard rounds the corner and kills even more orks!
Turn 2 - Orks
Squad inside in the fortress of redemption hop out charging through the back door guns blazing into the guard
Lootas finish off the fire warrior squad
Orks charge up around the fortress gunz blazing into the guard, the Manz charge up the ramps of the fortress killing some guard.
Assult - the both guard squads are annihilated except for the one in assault with Manz and Boyz - commisar says no i am stubborn!
Turn 2 - Guard
The the chimera is surrounded!
Tau Shash'o suit deep strikes in!
Squads shuffle around and fire rips out everywhere!
The large squad of 20 orks drops to 3! losing nob, but stick hard
Assault - suit jumps away, orks finish of the commissar.
Turn 3 - Orks
Ork movement moves up towards the center chimera surrounding it move 3 man squads banks left towards the tower of constrained guard.
6 ork boys and 1 nob kill the chimera via glancing! The warlord of the guard hops out! Their pinned!
MANZ surprized at the boys work turn around and maim a platoon command squad in shooting.
Lootas, kill a platoon command squad across the board
The three boyz that banked left, turn and kick the guard commanders teeth in. He runs away like a little girl.
Turn 3 - Guard
Guard attempt to regroup and bolster their flank, a Vet squad makes a back behind the other side of the fortress to claim a objective.
Shooting sees the 3 boy ork squad die. Nothing else
Assault, the suit runs away.
Remaining platoon squad breaks for a run to the objective with nothing but a hwt and a vet.
Turn 4 - Ork
The boyz chase the platoon squad going for a objective
The Manz push hard towards the other objective
Ork warboss breaks off and stands on top of the chimera (to split shooting of course)
Manz kill and break the remaining guard squad
Lootas get a lucky sight on the fleeing platoon command running from the boyz and butcher the HWT, the commander runs off board.
Turn 4 - Guard
The vets make a break for the objective - lootas have line of sight so he hides behind the wall out of sight waiting for turn five.
The chimera attempts to block the Manz from the objectives going sideways.
The crysis HQ helps.
Shooting is in effective on the MANZ
Turn 5 - Orks
Make a break for the objective the platoon command was with the boys. - they fall short by 1 inch! (including run)
Ork warlord trips and dies off the chimera. - effectively tying the warlord kill pt!
Manz kick Tau Hq face in and the chimera killing both and capping a point! - MANZ MERIKA! was yelled.
Turn 5 - Guard
With only but a lowly vet squad left, with the objective watched by 10 lootas make a dash for the objective!
They make it on the objective.
The game Ends! - he rolled a 1 to continue.
Guard VP
Line breaker, Warlord (even tho he killed himself), First Blood, Objective
Orks VP
Line breaker, Warlord (chap deserved it), Objective.
Guard win by 1 VP
If your curious kill point wise:
Orks - 2(platoons) + 2(platoon command) + 2(chimeras) + 1(fire warriors)+ 1 (Tau Hq) = 8 kill points
Guard - 1 (Warboss who tripped) + 1 (Boyz squad) = 2 kill points
its was a narrow loss, if the game went on, the guard would have been tabled!
But it was a good and close game all the way.
(however slightly tailored the guard list was.(Flamers galore about 8 in the list? with lots of huge template (taus)))

I am sorry the terrian wasnt painted, i know it is sad. (alot of his guys were dead, was counting on me making a 3+ to run, the game continuing on a 3+, and my war boss not falling a 2+, 2+, but these things happen)
Luck will win a game, just not all the games.

i know the lighting was poor, but what do you mean by half fanished? to me the muzzel is warm and power is flowing, on the chainsaw bit i don't like to do blood splatters, it gets old. But by all means please describe what you mean.

ahh yeah vik! also, i dont know who plays but i am going to be building a table, and as such i am looking into fair terrain placement along with hitting the home world feel for my guardsmen. As such, what do you think i made this general layout for the table.
I am thinking of making the "castle" side a higher elevation, increasing the elevation at the trench defense line.

it´s definatly an interesting concept...
so i gather this will be a snowland table?
how much of these terrain pices do you have already? or were the fortresses and such stuff seen above your´s already?
whyt will you use for getting the raised sections?... my first guess would be foamboard... thick at that... will you want to build in the trenches or will you make them flexible and removable?

Was thinking of building the trenches into the board. It will indeed be a winter wonderland.
I was thinking of doubling up the foam to raise the sections and then smoothing it out.
I own all the terrian to do this as it is. Current terrian i own is,
about 9 -12 defense lines along with 4 bastions. (bought two of the planet strike big boxes with two bastions each and 4 defense lines or whatever)
5 gw craters
1 fortress of redemption
and 1 imperial sector, that i used to make the church, factory, and minstorium.
I have two Bastions built, 2 in pieces for destroyed ones.
Feel free to do your own suggestions, this is just a rough idea. I wanted the castle feel defending the peasants. I could always do the good old Castle in the middle on the raise surface deal, with out laying town.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
hmmm... if you feel up to it... do a sketch from a mini perspective... that way we could better think about the table...
the theme of the table (old Castle in the middle on the raise surface deal, with out laying town) and your current plan sound very good... BUT... do you think this is a fair table for the non castle team? i am not too sure... seems for the "visitor" team to be a regular slaughterhouse... whyt will they have to their disposal to keep on trukking?

that is what i am worried about, i want to find a way to balence the terrian/ hense my half raised castle idea. Oh and if you mean the home team gets to start in the fortifications, that is a negative, the team would start in a standard mission deployment ect With the terrain just their in the middle or where ever it is placed. I will attempt to do some mini sketches.

ah i see... so no benefits then... at least that sounds fair then... tho...i now think it needs more space all together...

sounds interesting. Of course a defense mission is always a plan for the table, but not for general play.

well... the castle piece sort of creeps your defense pupose into your head... sort of unwanted but inevitable i guess^^
doing pillboxes is rather easy too... and quick... darn... i need to get some project free time to finish a strong point i need to show you... that would be ideal for your table... maybe i get around to do some WIP pics for you tomorrow... could be an alternative for trenches then for you... as these pieces can be aranged any old how... so you gain instant flexibility in building the table...

i am with you on the shoulder position... but make it like an air recon sign... just facing upwards... that´d be enough...
and yes... daylight pics are worth all the time spent waiting ... all the huzzle to set the minis up for taking pics etc...
now we can see the lightnings on the forcefield projector... the scratches and weathering you did on all models...
and all the other neat details...
one thing this made me discover tho... the banner bearer has three stripes on his helmet that could look neater... either more wonky... or more straighter... your decision...
but all are truly good looking!!!

modular, not likely, gluing the terrain down will happen. The table will be able to come apart and such.

Post by: Viktor von Domm
the two stripes for an LT sounds like a good plan!!!
the table as such looks beautiful... mayn nice models and pieces together... but to be honest... the first thouht i had was...: way too crowded... it´s for me atm a case of too much of a good thing... i am far one that should talk about rules... so i wont... if the rules for a table that size demand so many pieces for terrain... than you are gold... but i think it´s a bit too much...
tho when i look again i see many good ideas... the walls... they look quite good there... even the amount... and for now the craters look more poping into view... when all is done i think they will more blend in with the rest and thus wont me that noticable as atm...
the one question you have to ask yourself tho is...: do you have enough flat surfaces to play on? will vehicles have enough room to maneuver in?
the upper part... will that be bevelled all around or will you make smaller sections bevelled and the rest sheer cliffs? could be both good looking...
you definatly need more opinions before starting... if it would be me... that is dooing that table...
maybe open another thread with that question in mind? could draw more chaps to this thread too....
well that´s my ideas at the top of my head atm ...hope i could help...
the pics are still on my to do list but today was a rather filled day with work and other painful stuff^^ Automatically Appended Next Post: just read your answer to eldar tau...
better make it modular and don´t glue the terrain pieces in place... you will one day hate to play that table otherwise...

My heritage has done if anything, too much, good Vik. My father would say his hobby got to much in the way.. but that is neither here nor there. I just hope to be as miniature balls nut as him! I already got my GF invloved . she loves to paint nids now.

She has a few gargoyles. but her flyrant is really quite the spectacle. As i feel the nids are fantastic kits and well thought out, just so few bits except for the hive tyrant kit, bits everywhere in there.

Table is looking ace! That would be a fun table to play on. BUT I have to give some advice you really really REALLY need to take. Those blast craters you have, not only need some paint, but youll most definitely want to add some sand to them while wet. Even if your going to paint it in snow colors, thats fine. But the angles are really sharp AND the plastic is super friggin smooth. I can tell ya as a mostly foot horde player, those craters are frigging annoying to keep minis on, and sometimes (depending on out battles) those are all over the place. Its annoying trying to move a mob across them Automatically Appended Next Post: Missed the MANz youve got at the end. Love the gasmasks on them

And i thank you for it! Hehe, just dont know what to do with the other two planes, paint them blue as well? or go green like my ork armor?
Scrap yard orks always over done in my opinion, its rare to see orks who really just go out/referb things. I like to do weathering/damage things, but you will notice my orks are not rusted, they are just dirty/battle damaged. Like any worth while guard army, the orks fluff is the practice turning scrap into a work of epic functioning, killing machines, with the rust scrapped off because of its weakness, a good paint job to make it fearsome, and a crazy ork to use it.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
actually i would go again down the blue route...maybe add some flames? or lightning bolts or evenb a shark? i think all of these have been kind of iconic decorations for old warhorses...excuse me planes in the old days of america...
and i totally see your point with cleaner/better looking orks vs. scrapyard orks... makes sense to go a different route...!

Hmm. Surfer? Mr Zog. Now that's a Werid boy! i will definitely look into doing that as i can see some gits wanting shore leave from the waghh. He may or may not get blond hair and such. Also welcome to the party and thank you, you guys keep me motivated to work on my army.

Over all thank you for the comments. Truly nice to have some support from fellow real people around the world. I am going to get more Manz done, because i heard rumors of squiggoths coming for my birthday, that i will use as battle wagons. HEHE i hope so!

Well i fought nids. It was a win/loss.
My list was
Warboss in mega armor
big mek
20 lootas
20 mega armored nobs
40 boyz
1 dakka jet
1 burna bomba
I won it was kill points, however i had only 1 plane left, and 1 ork nob from a boyz squad. Nearly tabled still a major victory. dunno how but i killed over 120 gaunts

Thats the funny part of playing an elite army like your doing. Youll lose a big chunk of your army, and still crush a force with 3-4 times the numbers then you have

it was a good old righto krumpin, but i had no way to deal with the 2 hive tyrants and a tervigon left. :( Oh well it was fun, wish i took pics, but i did get something of a b day gift! 2 boxes of boyz. ya!
Automatically Appended Next Post:
perhaps it was the mad scientist type laughter that drove him. Sparks flying across the room. Saw scrapes on metal. A roar or cry for help from deep throat-ed animal. The glow from the head lamp and goggles lit only portions of what the mek needed to see. Piles of metal around, bolts loose on tables, tools a strewn around the desk. Dim afternoon light breached the windows into the room. Thudding pounded the grown at a occasional stomp of defiance. Still laughter was filling the room. Mad laughter. The spark of lightning arced off of the tool the mek was holding, the current went straight for his skull. He spazzed and smoked. A loud pop of the current completing the discharge followed by the sound of a sack of bricks landing in the bed of a truck. Silence took grasp for a second. Then laughter returned along with fuming smoke.
Oh sorry, didn't notice you here.. the meks laughter grew. He lifted his face plate. Now i know you been looking for a update here, and here is what i have for you.
The mek walked over to a desk with blue prints. It showed the outline of a squiggoth. Now you just listen here, take that terrible beasty, and shrink through these genetic-structure-manipulations-add-a-ard-bit-here-and-changethepoloymorphianatureofskin and wham!
Wez gunna make Ork Squiggoth Calvary, Mega Armored, Cannons, Normal, you bet, squiggoth Calvary. Laughter resumed, and a small squiggoth beast sat growling in the corner.
So fun story aside,
i am making Squiggoth Calvary, will work on rules as it comes, but the idea is that.
Going to get some wire and hot glue rolling to start the sculpting process!

Those MANZ are awesome! How can you afford all that?!
Are you throwing mega armor and a KFF on your mek? I'm not sure if that's legal. Looks bad ass as all hell though!
Heheheh... Stoked to see some squggoth cav!
My next project is actually 2 Big squiggoths (haven't found a giant lizard giant enough to make a gargantuan one yet) for an Apoc battle in December. I'm interested in seeing what you come up with... Might have to loot some ideas....
[edit] And as for your game with the nids, I dunno about you, but I actually find that probably 90% of the time that no matter if I win, lose, or tie, I almost ALWAYS lose nearly every unit by the end of the game. I don't play a particularly competitive list, really it's just what I have painted [which sadly means no lootas, yet] and I do pull more wins than loses, but none of da boys can freakin stay alive.

You can never have enough models comrade, and you will never have painted everything you own, its a weird unobtainable goal, you will think you are getting near the end of your painting list and you'll find that you totally absent-mindedly have started buying more to make up for the increased painting speed.....
...I have a feeling the problem will continue to get worse and by the time I am old I will have to swim through my model collection when I enter the house. A lumpy ocean of unpainted grey plastic body parts.

woah waoh waoh...
I just been enlightened... Like overly enlightened.
Grot tanks? 30pts per model?! + weps?
Grot Mega Tank? 70pts? +weps?
Squiggoths 50pts?
Kopters 65pts?
Why did no one tell me these models had such excellent rules.
Screw bikers... screw them hard, they are fun, but i just dislike the models. Now... now i have something to work for. Can get some scale tanks and helicopters. Get 1-2 more squiggoths. Have a real Ork of America army in Vietnam. So.. anyone in the market for around 43 bikers? Some forge world Ha ha. those funds will translate straight into those models.

Yeah. Sorry if I was unclear. I meant that you should do a unit of grots dressed as the rebel kids from the red dawn movie (in the old one they called themselves the "Wolverines", I haven't seen the new one yet on a matter of principle) but they were dressed up in rag tag clothes and cloaks. Did a lot of guerrilla style hit and run tactics and were all fairly young. It just seemed to work together in my head.
