Apparently the scent of wounded traitors drives me to great acts of face punching. Just when they thought they survived everything I swoop in and relieve them of the burden of existence.
Gonna have to have a word with those tech marines though, these jet packs don't have enough fuel!

Or, y'know, he's just so bad he's not even a good meatshield
Mission 6 underway. Three turns in so far, and someone's already slaughtered three berzerkers in close combat, someone's shot a team-mate, someone else has also shot a team-mate, and a lot of enemies have been set on fire.
Brought along this mission are:
Tactical Squad II: 1) Veteran Sergeant: Just Dave/ Justimus Davimus
2) Veteran Marine: Vortrey/ Vortigern
3) Veteran Marine: Rotgut/ Titan
4) Veteran Marine: Purplefood/ Purple the Magnificent V
5) Veteran Heavy/Special Weapons: Medium of Death/ Medius Ex Decimus (flamer)
I've taken Otto out of squad II for the mission so the terminator-to-be doesn't get killed, and replaced him with Medius, for his flamer expertise.

Well, at least I might be less likely to die as a devastor. SO wanted to be a termie with an AC though.
You've still got a chance, but yeah, being one short was pretty miserable! There were a couple of times you could've got the fifth kill too...
To be fair, I always thought you'd reach the Terminator Squad too.

That kind of attitude will get you far, sergeant.

Well, there's a Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield waiting for you in the Terminator Squad if you want it?

You serious? It's just a game. Your mission in the dread isn't 'til mission 11 anyway (the only other mission in the dread (12) I figured I'd give to whoever had died the most).
In which case, it looks like a space in the Devastator Squad has just opened up...

Excellent!
This is why I need big guns, reliability and consistency, heh.
Well, if Silver or Pertinax gets promoted, you're next in line for the heavy weapons slot. Although I think I'll start rotating the Devastators that get the heavy weapons either way: seems more fair!

For what it's worth, it wasn't you that friendly fired in the most recent mission! *yet*
Oh that late eh? Well suppose someone has to play meat shield then. Just make sure to paint over the target circle on my back before you send me out into the fray once more.
Updated the current kill tally in the first post. Most overall kills goes to: 1) Herius Pertinax, for 13 kills. 2) Titan, for 12 kills. 3) Otto Von Swanzstucker III, for 10 kills.
Most valuable kills goes to: 1) Herius Pertinax: 91pts 2) Isaac Hexen: 70pts 3) Otto Von Swanzstucker III: 46pts
Using my follow attempt at a scoring system: Cultist: 1pts, Blue Horror 3pts, Pink Horror: 4pts, Flesh Hound: 8 pts, CSM: 8pts, Zerker: 9pts, Bloodletter: 10pts, Aspiring Champ: 11pts, Mighty Champion: 15pts, Terminator: 17pts, Sorcerer: 20pts. I'll try to calculate the best kills/points-per-mission ratio so far when I can.
After the current mission, I'm going to rotate who gets the heavy weapons in the devastator (and probably tactical) squads though, as I feel that would be more fair - people's thoughts on this?

Sure. I wasn't feeling the flamer much anyways. Time spent shooting could be time spent smashing face.
Cracking. You're in. I'll start sorting out replacements for the various squads after the current mission is finished.
Doctadeth wrote:So, whose flamer has reaped the most chaos filth.
You mean in the current mission? You'll have to wait and see I guess! It's between you, Medius and Canuck so far: although the latter's got a way better (psychic) flamer!

Sounds good, I think everyone should get a turn with the big guns.
Techmarine Imperitus is on-hand and has clearly solved the problem, as its working again.
In further news from the mission so far; Vortigern and Titan have found plasmaguns, Purple a meltagun, and Noobimus a serpent's breath (fancy) flamer. Rasputin found a flamer, but on account of being a Devastator, couldn't pick it up (they can't use special, only heavy, weapons).

OK, we're about to enter a rather large room full of cover, with around 10csm's inside, including a sorcerer and a dude at the back with a missile launcher that somebody is going to need to... "distract". Any volunteers? It's probably going to get messy. Expect casualties. I almost just kicked the bucket myself!

I volunteer Shrikenius the Inept for such a suicide mission:
- You won't lose a valued librarian
- You can blame any and all failures on me
- The highest expectations of me is still several metres below sea level
- I'm a great distraction, the missile launcher marine will desperately want to shut me up.

Whilst I appreciate your noble volunteering (although the phrase about a thin line between bravery and stupidity springs to mind ) and I would gladly send you towards the enemy's guns, I'm afraid Shrikenius isnt deployed this mission - maybe next time?
But yeah, i think i need one or two volunteers to offer to distract the missile guy and use his overwatch shot, so i can then hopefully hit him with our own heavy weapons... Guys?
And hey, its not necessarily a suicide mission! I just took a rocket to the face afterall. Just don't expect to survive...

If I am available, I an always up for a chance at a rocket launcher!
Normally the proposed method of finding one is not preferable, but I'll take what I can get.
The faith you all have in Silver warms my cold, dead heart. However - as I'm sure you'll all be delighted and deeply reassured to know - Silver's one of the guys we're relying on to take out the missile Word Bearer...
Silver's also - with a fully charged plasma cannon - standing right behind Doctadeth!
Kirsanth has nobly volunteered to act as chief bullet/missile catcher though, so we'll see how (badly) it goes.

Thanks for your volunteering, Kirsanth, you'll go down in the good-annals for this, probably as a valiant martyr!
And thanks to your unfortunate demise (to another missile) last mission, you make a very practical volunteer as there won't be much xp to potentially lose!

"You're one lucky man, Kir." Cato said as his chirugeon administered a dose of painkiller into Kirsanth's arm, "Not many, even amongst our number, can take the weight of fire you do and have the ability to keep on standing back up."
Kirsanth grunted, "Lucky? Being a bullet magnet is hardly lucky." The lithe arms of Cato's chirugeon flitted around his arm like large insects searching for a spot to bite. Kirsanth batted them away and pulled himself off the chair, gritting his teeth as pain flared up his recently healed leg and blossomed inside his thrice rebuilt chest.
"You got hit by a krak missile and didn't lose a single limb," Cato replied, the arms of his chirugeon drooping as he detached the apparatus, "I'd call that lucky."
Kirsanth shot him a glare, "Yes, now I get to live to see another one hit me." He sighed, rubbing a thick hand across his scarred face, "I'm sorry, Cato, I'm not angry with you."
Cato nodded, "I know."
The pain began to subsides as Cato's painkillers started their work, aiding Kirsanth's enhanced Astartes physiology and helping him ignore the complaints from his various battle wounds. "At least I don't have to be shoved inside a Dreadnought."
"Would you believe me if I said we've got a sarcophagus prepped and ready for you?" Cato chuckled.
Kirsanth grinned, "I wouldn't give Proficio or Veri the satisfaction, besides, how'd they react to what Purple got the Predator into?"
Cato sat himself down on the chair, "Apparently you could hear them cursing across the other side of the ship." He sighed, "If only fixing machines were as easy as fixing people."
Kirsanth gave Cato a playful punch on the shoulder, "Don't beat yourself up, you and Won do a great job, I mean, look at the wonders you perform on me."
"And think about what you come back to me with after I do." Cato waved a hand before him, "That didn't come out right, I'm sorry."
"Don't worry, I knew what you meant." Kirsanth watched Cato as the apothecary looked forlornly around the apothecarion. The apothecary had a rugged look to him that all astartes shared, but was more prominent in him than any others. His eyes bore the weight not only of combat, of dealing with its consequences. By the hands of the astartes foes and friends alike died in glory on the battlefield, but for apothecaries, they also died in theirs arms or on the operating table. He had whispered promises that his brothers would be fine, only to break them seconds later when they could hold on no more.
"Is it wrong," Cato muttered, "for me to dream of the day when our brothers may finally stop dying?"
Kirsanth gave Cato's shoulder a reassuring squeeze, "It is never wrong to dream of peace, brother." Cato nodded, and covered Kirsanth's hand with his own. "It may seem strange, but soldiers, more than anyone, dream of peace. There is no feeling like being able to sleep without fear of never waking up."
"And you, Kir,?" Cato asked, "Why is that you dream of peace?"
Mere inches separated their faces. Kirsanth could feel Cato's warm breath upon his cheeks. Something in the man's eyes lured him closer, something begged to be set free, something Cato had caged behind bars of adamantium now howled for release, "I would dream of peace so that all this death would cease, so that you may have your wish, so that you yourself would not die." Kirsanth could fight the silent urge within him no longer; Cato's inner beasts would taste freedom this night.

Oh shi-, I thought you said "Someone ship him"; my bad.
Kirsanth felt cold as his limbs started to shake and convulse. He felt his hearts palpitate and his vision blur. The Astartes stared into his brother's eyes. Darkness enveloped the apothecary's pupils as a grin crossed his lips. Kirsanth pushed him away and fell to his knees, the metallic floor creaking and thundering under the weight of his power armor.
He tried to look up at his “brother” but his neck muscles were contracting and cramping, forcing him to look to the metallic rusted surface of the floor. He felt anger and fury rush his emotions as he summoned his strength to reach for the bolt pistol on his hip. As he unclipped it from his utility slot, the apothecary effortlessly kicked it out of his hands. It slid across the floor as Kirsanth saw his only chance for retribution stop underneath the surgery table.
“I did mean that I don't want my brothers to die, Kir...” Cato knelt in front of him and lifted up his chin and stared into his pain ridden face, “Codicil MX-V-X.i, Never lie to another Astartes, trust one another for together you form the pieces of the shield and the sword that cuts down the enemies of the Emperor and protects him.”
Cato stood and chuckled the way he always did as Kirsanth struggled to remain conscious, to say something into his vox, to tell his battle brothers of the traitor. He should have kept his helmet on, he should have realize the pain that coursed through his leg earlier wasn't normal.
“How many times Kirsanth?! How many times have I TENDED to your wounds, PAIN INHIBITORS DON'T USUALLY HURT DO THEY KIR?!” Cato smiled even wider than he was earlier, “And I bet now you can see the irony in trusting your brother!” He laughed kicking Kirsanth over with a thud of ceramite on ceramite. Kirsanth landed on his back, his thoughts becoming more and more clouded.
“Don't worry brother I'm not going to kill you, no no no, that would go against the Codex Astartes,” Cato smiled, “I'm just going to make some changes to you. So you understand my point of view, so you'll do better in battle,” he chuckled again, “So you can serve the emperor.”
Kirsanth muttered something, prompting Cato to move closer, to listen. “What was that? Your last words as a loyalist?”
“Traitor...”
Cato stood from the downed Astartes, “You and me both brother, but I'll tell you this much I'm not working alone on this ship... and by the way, you should have tried to seduce Won instead, whenever I'm around him he doesn't stop talking about you,” Cato sneered kicking Kirsanth on the top of the head, rendering him unconscious.
* * * * *
Sergeant Fulmen moved through the cobwebbed corridors of the ship, passing serfs in rags who bowed in respect to his presence. The giant Astartes clad in blue armor seemed like a demi-god when compared to the mortals, so it was only natural that a serf should fear the reprisal of an angel of death.
Fulmen had been looking for Kirsanth for over an hour, and he was yet to be found. He had checked his personal quarters, the training pits, and Won's room. Fulmen always wondered about those two, they were always seen together... very strange. Nonetheless he was headed for Cato's Apothecarium, the last place he looked. He'd known Kirsanth had been there for treatment of his wounds during the last battle but he had assumed he'd already been treated and discharged.
Sergeant Fulmen heard his vox crackle to life, “Apothecary Won to the Apothecarium, Kirsanth has suffered a Cerebral Edema and a TBI concerning his upper cortex...”
Fulmen's eyes widened, he knew little about medical procedures and terminology, but what he did know was that didn't sound good. Fulmen's fast pace turned into a sprint towards Cato's Apothecarium, the serfs clinging to the sides of the corridors as the giant thundered past them.
“What..? My Kir?” Won replied over the vox, “How did we not-”
“There's no time Won, I need you here immediately...” Cato replied his voice stern and serious.
Fulmen saw the entrance of the apothecarium and darted for it, pressing the release button on the door prompting it to open. Inside lay his squad member, his armor was completely removed as he lay naked on a surgery table. Cato was wearing full battle rattle as he and his bionicle appendages where making inscions on Kirsanth's forhead. Servitors stood motionless around the room, holding medical equipment and chemicles. The sight filled Fulmen with fear for the loss of his brother.
“Cato!” Fulmen yelled, “What happened to my brother?!”
Cato's eyelenses creaked as he leaned in closer to Kirsanth's skull moving his appendages and surgical tools in very slow methodical motions. Fulmen moved over to the table and stared at the Apothecary, his fist clenched with the anger of being ignored.
“CATO!” he screamed to the apothecary who didn't as much glance upwards.
“His brain is swelling from internal bleeding and shock from the explosions and bolt rounds that rocked his head earlier. When the brain continues to swell it has no place to go except through the spinal column, which will kill him. I'm trying to prevent that from happening. I've relieved pressure from his skull by cutting out the bone where most of the bleeding is occurring.” Cato said all of this without looking upwards.
“Will he live Cato...?” Fulmen's anger turning into worry as he watched his brother lying helplessly on his table, “Can you save him?”
“I believe I can...” He said emotionless, still messing around in Kirsanth's brain with his tools, “But...”
Fulmen's eyes widened again with fear, “But?!”
Cato glanced up at Fulmen for the first time, “But,” he said with an annoyed tone, then turned his head back towards his patient, “He will not be the same. I have to make some implantation, some similar to what servitors have... he will continue to serve the Emperor until his death.”
As Fulmen began to open his mouth to speak, Apothecary Won showed up. His long blonde hair and blue eyes were indistinguishable from the rest of the company. Fulmen thought it looked like he might tear up at the loss of his beloved brother. What was going on between those two?
“Cato... Brother what happened? I thought-”
Cato looked up at his subordinate apothecary, “You thought nothing! You were supposed to go over all of our brothers schematics and life readings once they came aboard. YOU misdiagnosed Kirsanth and now he will suffer a fate of lobotomy because of you! Your discipline actions will come soon enough, Won... Now hand me the needle decompression kit”
The rest of VIII squad had shown up at this point, each face showed horror except for Rasputin who showed no emotion. Fulmen could hardly contain his anger at Won. He was truly inexperienced as an apothecary and he brought shame to his company by letting one of their own basically die by a small, preventable mistake.
“You...” he turned to Won, pure scorn riddled his face. His veins flooded with blood from rage. “This... This is your fault.”
Won turned to face Fulmen. As he did he felt a metal fist hit his face. The blow didn't feel good to say the least and Fulmen would've continued if it weren't for his squad holding him back.
“I'LL KILL YOU!” he screamed trying to fight off his squad members as they tackled him to the ground. Won looked off into space in horror, blood flowing from his nose.
Cato grinned underneath his helmet as he began to implant the chips that would render Kirsanth completely under his control.
******
The apothecarium door slid open, it was a figure holding a bolt pistol. Cato eyed him as he walked into the room.
"I wonder how Kirsanth's bolt pistol ended up underneath the surgical table..." he said emotionless.
Cato was silent, his grin disappearing before the giant.
"Be more careful next time brother..." he said tossing Cato the pistol and leaving.

- 5 people have been promoted from Space Marine Veteran to Space Marine Hero.
- 3 people have been promoted to Space Marine Veteran.
- Someone got a 218% ranged hit rate, someone else got 100%!
- Someone got a stonking 96% close combat hit rate!
- Someone killed some enemies.
- Someone else didn't.

Don't worry guys the Cato + Kir OTP is still going on. Space Marines get a little bit more hard core when they turn into "Space buddies" and they do things that mortals would find appalling.
(For all the married people here wouldn't you want to be able to program your wife to do your every desire?)
Anyway, here's the next chapter...
Won splashed water on his face soaking away the tears at the loss of his beloved Kir's personality. How many nights had they sat together in the docking bay, reading each other the codex astartes only to find themselves lying together, their arms locked in place? He was going to miss those nights. He frowned as he combed his blonde hair over, it flowed down to his shoulders
Spoiler:
as he pattered some make up on.
He would have to find a new buddy.
The door slammed open. It was Sergeant Fulmen. Fear screamed inside of Won (even though space marines don't know fear, he did for some reason). Fulmen was here to obviously kill Won, to take revenge on him by not going over the diagnosis properly. Fulmen reached for his bolt pistol.
"Stop Won, I'm not here to hurt you," he said softly.
Won blushed, he had come at a time where he was getting prettied up. He wasn't yet prepared for the rest of the company to see him. Not now, not like this. He felt so vulnerable.
"I've come to ask you about your brother Apothecary, Cato," he said stammering, "and to apologize for my actions the other day. I shouldn't have attacked you like that..." his voice trailing off, seemingly distant.
"It's okay brother," His mascara running down his cheeks as he teared up, "He meant the world to me."
"Kir was one of the best space buddies a space buddy could ask for... So tell me Brother, why is Cato always holding hands with Robo Kir?"
Won gasped, Cato holding hands with his former beloved? There was obviously a gap in morality, you never should go after someone's previous space buddy, especially after they've been lobotomized! There had to be some mistake.
"What...?" Won barely spat out, the betrayal still fresh on his emotions.
"Yes, I've been seeing this gesture quite often around here lately, I don't really know what it means. Just yesterday Cato was holding hands with the Predator Pilot! I confronted him about it and he said it was "Space Buddy Tuesday". What does that mean Won? I ask you this because I've seen you hold hands with Kir!"
Won teared up again at the mention of Kir and Cato having his way with him. Won couldn't confront Cato about the OTP because he was his subordinate but he felt like he must. He was so zoned out in thought he forgot Fulmen was standing there.
"WON!" Fulmen said shaking him vigoriously, "What is going on around here?! What does "Space Buddy Tuesday" mean? What does it mean to "Hold hands" and why for the love of our beloved emperor does Cato lock himself in the Apothecarium with Kir and moan loudly?!"
Won made a decisive deliberate decision and touched Fulmen's gauntlet-ed hand, grasping it tightly. His blue eyes stared into his pink eyes as he whispered, "I'll show you... Space buddy."
Fulmen blushed, and closed his eyes as they embraced as new space buddies.
MEANWHILE... in the Apothecarium
This scene was removed due to forum rules infractions.
After breaching the fortress, we are to reach and shut down (via our trusty techmarine, Proficio Imperitus) the thermal generator; thereby disabling the shields that protect the enemy's chaos gate. Chaos gate through which the enemy can draw reinforcements, or escape. The mission took place within the tight-knit caverns within the fortress and therefore we went without the assault squad, deploying the following:
Tactical Squad II: 1) Veteran Sergeant: Just Dave/ Justimus Davimus 2) Veteran Marine: Vortrey/ Vortigern 3) Veteran Marine: Rotgut/ Titan 4) Veteran Marine: Purplefood/ Purple the Magnificent V 5) Veteran Heavy/Special Weapons: Medium of Death/ Medius Ex Decimus (flamer)
I've taken Otto out of squad II for the mission so the terminator-to-be doesn't get killed, and replaced him with Medius, for his flamer expertise.
Upon deployment, we are quickly rushed by a small - but steadily reinforced - band of berzerkers; fast closing upon our positions. Leonardius Rhodes takes first honours, hitting a berzerker with one of his two krak grenades, before Titan takes first blood; hitting and killing this berzerker with a krak grenade of his own. Silver opens fire with the mighty plasma cannon: aiming for a Word Bearer sheltered behind an assortment of barrels. Silver - somewhat unsurprisingly - misses the shot, but he still hits the barrels which promptly explode, injuring the Word Bearer behind them and Berzerker in front of them. Pertinax then hits Silver's intended Word Bearer four times, killing the foul heretic, before Titan hits the Khorne Berzerker once, Alactus hits him once also, before Justimus Davimus kills the warrior with a further three hits.
Medius Ex Decimus, Purple the Magnificent V, and the librarian, Canuck, move forwards into overwatch positions: ready to take out any charging berzerkers. However, in an embarrassing incident of friendly fire (which is clearly the fault of the marines, not because of the position their commander left them in, oh no), Securim Fulmen accidentally shoots Medius in the back, whilst Rasputin also shoots Purple in the back! Both marines are thereby knocked off overwatch, whilst Purple - with much cursing - is wounded by Rasputin's fire. Techmarine Proficio Imperitus took this opportunity to lead by example, crushing a Berzerker in close combat with ease. Kirsanth then hits another berzerker with a krak grenade, who Proficio hits four times, and Kirsanth shoots a further two times. But the Berzerker still stands. Rasputin then hits the same warrior a further three times, Securim four times and Canuck two times, but still the berzerker lives on: proceeding to charge into Proficio who doesn't even flinch, finally slaying the frenzied warrior.
Purple proceeds to krak grenade another berzerker, before shooting him two times; with Medius then also hitting and killing the 'zerker. Medius then hits another World Eater - almost hitting Canuck with his first shot - who Pertinax hits four times and Rhodes twice. Silver then hits another berzerker, who Canuck then casts hellfire upon; killing. A berzerker then charges at Vortigern, getting hit by several Ultramarines as he does so, with Vortigern unloading upon the World Eater at point blank range, killing. Titan proceeds to shoot another berzerker twice, who Deth then sets alight, with Titan hitting - and killing - the warrior once more. Proficio then crushes - once more barely breaking a sweat - his third berzerker in close combat, before he is quickened by Canuck and kills a fourth (quickening grants extra AP and attacks)! Proficio then drops back and would stay out of the action for the rest of the mission, conscious of his survival being necessary to the success of the operation.
The Ultramarines proceed to press forwards, leaving an assortment of heretic corpses in their wake. Securim - with the assistance of his beloved commander - slays another berzerker (these guys just keep on coming!), as Medius and Purple team up to kill a berzerker each; Medius leaving practically... everything around them on fire. Kirsanth is attacked by a berzerker in close combat and is unable to hit the warrior with his own blade, resorting to blowing him apart with his boltgun; splattering his armour with gristly, traitor marine, chunks. Sergeant Noobimus Maximus also kills a berzerker, assisted by Rhodes and Alactus, of his own squad.
Meanwhile, Davimus, Nominus Terribus, Titan and Doctadeth flank east, with the latter taking point. Doctadeth is caught exposed (that's in the open, not with his power armour down) by a pair of Word Bearers; getting fired upon by both but somehow coming out relatively unscathed. Doctadeth then levels his flamer at one of the chaos marines, hitting him twice and setting him alight; with the chaos marine fleeing as Deth's sadistic laughter clogs up the vox. Ignoring the maniacal delight of his battle brother and the enemy's frag grenades, Terribus then grenades the other word bearer, proceeding to kill the warrior with the assistance of Titan and his beloved, incredibly handsome, commander.
Alactus, Noobimus, Medius and Rasputin also split off from the main advance, exploring further caverns above their position. As they do so, they are set upon by a pair of daemons: with Medius flaming one twice, before Alactus "kills" it; the daemon then splitting into two blue horrors. One of these blue horrors claws Rasputin in the back, but is then banished by the Ultramarine (this is what I meant by Rasputin kind of "killing" something), before Alactus destroys the other. Medius then flames the other pink horror three times, which is then shot by Noobimus and disintegrates into another pair of blue horrors. These horrors then charge at Rasputin (either sensing an easy prey or a greater threat, you decide), with Medius' assault veterancy paying off as he kills both in close combat with just a combat knife. Noobimus Maximus proceeds to find a Serpent's Breath Flamer (a particularly deadly flamer), whilst Rasputin finds a flamer but is unable to use it (only tactical marines can use special, rather than heavy, weapons).
Back with the main Ultramarines force, Securim is ambushed by a plasma-gun chaos space marine and shot three times; but his armour is barely dented, as the Emperor clearly protects. Doctadeth then rushes to the sergeant's aid, but misses the Word Bearer from (very) close range. Securim then grenades the chaos marine, before Pertinax - quickened by Canuck - also rushes forwards, gunning down the traitor with his heavy bolter. Titan and Vortigern proceed to rummage through the nearby crates, with both tactical marines obtaining plasma guns! Rhodes then frag grenade's a chaos space marine twice (also destroying the barrels he was hiding behind), before the still-quickened Pertinax kills the now-exposed chaos marine. Purple proceeds to search the crate the chaos marine was guarding, letting out a squeal of delight and exclaiming the word "shiny" as he finds a meltagun (laden with ammunition) inside; Rhodes also reported Purple's limbs as quivering and the distinct sound of drooling over the vox...
The caverns all but cleared out, the Ultramarines form up around the stairs leading towards the thermal reactor and ultimate objective: the bulk of our force - thirteen Ultramarines - forming up on overwatch, waiting for the remaining marines to catch up. At which point, a particularly hapless and/or unlucky Word Bearer with a flamer stumbles down the stairs in front of us all, and is subsequently shot four times each by - the beloved and handsome - Davimus, and Rhodes and Securim, with the devastator sergeant getting the final shot. Meanwhile, Medius kills a third pink horror, with Rasputin killing the blue horror spawned from its "death". Medius, Noobimus, Alactus and Rasputin, alongside Titan and Vortigern then regroup with the main force which proceeds towards the main chamber and final objective.
Two narrow passageways, left and right-side, lead into the final chamber, with a set of stairs leading into further caverns behind the left passageway. Justimus Davimus (beloved by all) led the advance on the right-hand side but gets hit by a krak missile as soon as he steps inside the chamber, thermal reactor in sight. Although Davimus survives (at which point the rest of the Ultramarines obviously cheer, applause and set off party poppers), his armour is destroyed and he falls back. The remaining Ultramarines then throw smokes and form up at either passageway, with Medius and Doctadeth lighting up the passageway's with their flamers to hinder any chaos counter-attack. Terribus and Vortigern move down to check and clear the stairs behind the left passageway, with Terribus finding a Word Bearer, whom he hits with a krak grenade, before Vortigern also hits with one of his two plasma gun shots. Terribus is almost killed by the Word Bearer's return fire, before Vortigern finishes off the heretic with a burst of plasma fire. The two marines then drop back to the passageways by the main chamber, but remain watching the stairs and therefore their backs.
A particularly foolhardy chaos marine with a plasma gun charges through the smoke in the left passageway, but is fired upon by Pertinax - who had once more been quickened by Canuck - and quickly cut down. A further chaos marine charges through and is set alight by the combined flamers of Medius and Noobimus, before also being shot by Kirsanth. An additional chaos marine runs through the smoke and is shot three times by Kirsanth and also killed by Pertinax (who then understandably has to reload, no doubt blowing the barrel of his heavy bolter as he does so). Vortigern proceeds to shoot another chaos space marine through the smoke, hitting him four times, with Rasputin hitting him a further three times and Pertinax finishing him off, also. Pertinax (who is still quickened) then proceeds to gun down two more Word Bearers, before vowing to buy Canuck a drink when they get back to the battlebarge.
The Ultramarine forces now face an impasse, however: they have only two narrow passageways with which to enter the thermal chamber, which still has approximately seven chaos space marines remaining in it, and a guy at the back with a missile launcher on overwatch: making entering the chamber difficult at least, and a death-wish at worse. And so, Kirsanth bravely, nobly and valiantly (and everything in between) volunteers to go into the chamber first and 'distract' the missile-launcher word bearer, and the other chaos marines on overwatch: knowing the suicide mission he was surely volunteering for. Kirsanth then runs out into the chamber - staring death in the eyes but clearly refusing to blink - and immediately gets shot by a pair of Word Bearers; wounded before he even faces the missile launcher. As he continues forwards, clutching his side and ruined armour in pain, Kirsanth then gets hit by a missile and... SURVIVES, by the very narrowest (seriously, 6hp) of margins, with his armour destroyed. Gasps and exclamations of "ooooph" are heard from the nearby Ultramarines at this point.
So, with no overwatch fire to fear, Silver advances with his fully charged plasma cannon and hits(!) the missile launcher Word Bearer dead-on, but somehow - despite the great shooting - is unable to kill the prime threat. Titan then runs into the chamber to try and finish the warrior, but is unable to get into range. So, Pertinax advances and one-shots the chaos marine.
Now, with Kirsanth's job done spectacularly (and surprisingly) well and the missile-armed word bearer dead, the remaining Ultramarines charge into the main chamber... Medius goes first (technically fourth) and flames a pair of chaos space marines, whilst Canuck fails to cast quicken and so holds back. Alactus also rushes forwards, hitting the enemy sorcerer with a krak grenade. He and Securim then miss their shots against the sorcerer, but Securim manages to kill the psyker with another krak grenade of his own. Purple also moves forwards and gleefully levels his shiny new meltagun at a chaos space marine, but misses! Vortigern is only able to hit the enemy once, before everyone else moves forwards, with liberal amounts of smoke grenades thrown to try and cover the Ultramarines. Securim is shot twice and multiple frag grenades are thrown at Pertinax, KIrsanth and Medius, but the combination of smoke and cover saves them, as Kirsanth tries to patch himself with some medkits. As the smoke clears slightly, the Ultramarines are left without casulties and so begin their counter-attack and the destruction of the chaos forces...
Purple steps forwards and fries a chaos marine with his meltagun, whilst Silver hits another Word Bearer that Alactus then finishes off. Noobimus fails to hit a trio of Word Bearers, but Medius does much better with his flamer: hitting all three (twice) and setting alight one. Doctadeth then hits one of these chaos marines with a krak grenade, who Securim and Titan both miss, but Rhodes manages to hit once before Vortigern finishes him off with a plasma grenade (Vort loves him some plasma it seems). Deth then sets alight the two chaos marines previously flamed by Medius, killing one. Medius gets hit by a pair of frag grenades, but - desperate to finish the enemy and earn terminator honours - shrugs them off before wading through his own flames to set alight another pair of chaos marines.
Noobimus proceeds to miss (again) another chaos marine, that Vortigern kills, whilst Titan kills one of the (many) flaming chaos marines with his own plasma gun. Vortigern and Medius then both one-shot the chaos marines Medius flamed last turn. Meanwhile, the techmarine Proficio goes to work with achieving the mission objective; beginning to disable the thermal generator whilst Rasputin and Vortigern remain nearby on support, with the rest of the Ultramarines spreading out to secure the room and ready in case of counter-attack.
Whilst Proficio completes the mission, Doctadeth, Titan, Nominus Terribus and Purple move to secure and explore the caverns downstairs behind the left passageway; that Terribus had almost been killed exploring earlier. Terribus finds a trio of captured imperial supply crates, opening them up to find a wealth of goodies including haywire grenades, a liberator power axe (to go to Nu) and a master-crafted boltgun (to go to Securim). They then come across another chaos marine, with Titan hitting him twice and getting hit twice in return. Doctadeth then backs up his comrade, also hitting twice and setting alight the chaos marine who flees, only for Titan to chase after him and cut him down. They then repeat this process, with Doctadeth hitting another Word Bearer twice, who Titan proceeds to kill. As they move through the cavern - with the mission technically completed - the four Ultramarines come across a trio of Word Bearers including one with a flamer. Purple and Terribus both miss easy shots, with Purple getting wounded by the enemy's overwatch and ending up face-to-face with the enemy on their turn. His commanding officer finishes the mission at this point, before Purple gets shanked (in retrospect, considering Purple's claims of invincibility, it may have been better to see what happened)...

-----------
Man of the Match Award undoubtably goes to Kirsanth, who has been awarded the title of 'The Almost Invincible': for both volunteering for, and surviving, the suicide mission of distracting the missile-launcher Word Bearer and being the first into the final chamber, as well as achieving the second-highest hit-rate! Pertinax comes second, and is awarded the title 'Shooter of Bad Guys' for his impressive 9 kills and a very impressive 78% hit rate (despite his high RoF)! Canuck comes third, for - although he didn't kill much - his liberal application of psychic powers was crucial to the success of the mission (and Pertinax). Alactus also gets an honourable mention, for an impressive number of kills and a 73% hit rate on what was also his first mission.
The Most Dakka Award goes to Silver, of all people, for a 100% hit rate! Kirsanth comes second with 92%, with your ever-beloved, handsome and incredibly witty commander coming third with 84%. Proficio was the only marine really engaged in close combat, and he gets the Most Choppa award for a seriously impressive 92% hit rate! Medius, meanwhile, somehow achieved a 218% hit rate rate(!!) but I previously said that flamers wouldn't count, so sorry buddy, but it can't count...
The Needs More Gun Award clearly goes to Kirsanth, for defying all the odds and the enemy's firepower. The I'm All Outta Gum Award goes to Proficio Imperitus for slaying Berzerkers left right and centre before he had to pull back for his (and the enemy's) own safety: who knows how many more he would've slain otherwise!
The Wooden Bullet Award goes to... No-one! You all did pretty damn well (although Purps got the lowest hit rate) and somehow managed to avoid any casualties. The mission was an overwhelming success, although kind of uneventful as a result!
--------------
Next to come, we need to do some re-organising for the new Terminator Squad before the next mission. Otto, Pertinax, Hexen, Medius, Titan and Vortigern; one of you needs to become the Terminator Sergeant. If you want to be, just post saying so: if there's competition, I'll then sort something out. As sergeant, you're guaranteed a place in the squad (as others will be rotated out) and typically be on-point, but you do lose out on the opportunity to wield the assault cannon or heavy flamer (you'll get either CC weapons or the bolter/fist combination instead).
Everyone else, you can post if you wish to be transferred to another squad. The Tactical squads will be combined into one, whilst there will now be space(s) in the assault and devastator squads, so if you'd like transferring, I'll see what I can do. Shrikenius, this particularly applies to you, if you want to move to one of these squads rather than be a librarian, as you'd get more action this way? If anyone wants transferring, I'll accommodate for your desires if I can.
I'll also be rotating who gets the heavy and special weapons from now on, by the way, so everyone gets a chance with the good stuff. Noobimus, you're being promoted to the sergeant of Tactical Squad II!
I survive once more, despite the attempts of certain battle brothers. I also have a meltagun, despite the attempts of my commanding officer.
I am INVINCIBLE!
Hmm, if there's gunna be space in the Assault Team, may I be shifted there please? Also, if possible, may I have a name change to Veltan if I'm accepted onto the team?

Silver surveyed the scene before him with ever increasing dread. Never in his life had he seen such swathes of destruction wreaked upon a landscape. What was once pristine stood now broken and defiled. Filthy puddles collected where runoff cascaded down the sides of shattered structures. An ungodly stench permeated the air, and it took all his resolve not to wretch. Vile daemons had been fought and banished here; his brothers once stood here, delivering the Emperor's wrath through themselves, and what wrath it was. Only drips falling from leaks and the occasional groaning of buckled masonry managed to make itself heard above the cacophonous silence. A faint haze shielded Silver's view of the more distant stretches, but he knew that they would look no better. His armoured hands gripped the hilt of his weapon tighter as he called upon his depleting reserves of courage. He whispered prayers to the Emperor to help him this day, to aid him in cleansing the foul taint once and for all.
Glancing over his shoulder, he saw that Davimus still stood mute from his observation point. The Veteran's arms were crossed tightly across his power-armoured chest. His helmet was mag-locked at his waist where it hung like a trophy, still bearing the scars of battle that the chapter's artificers had not yet been able to repair. The grizzled Veteran's scarred face was unreadable, like a wall of stone given a scant few human features. Although Davimus' iron gaze betrayed nothing, Silver knew that the Veteran had not given him this task lightly. He remained still, giving Silver one final chance to back out.
Silver turned back to the ruins before him, his weapon gripped across his chest from his right shoulder to the left side of his waist. He steeled himself against the task he faced. He was Astartes. He was an Angel of Death. He feared none and was feared by all. Taking one more look around him, he took a heavy breath and waded in.
Davimus let a sigh of relief flow from between his tightly pursed lips. He understood that this task was perilous, but he could find nobody better suited to it. He just hoped that Silver would not think less of him for it.
Before he turned to leave, he cupped his hands to his mouth and shouted, "Silver!" The marine turned, weapon raised and ready to strike, to face the Veteran, "Be careful, brother!"
Silver returned a terse nod of thanks, and thrust his weapon firmly into the face of his foe, eliciting a demonic gurgle when he pulled it free. Vile chunks of barely-digested offal and slime erupted forth from the wound, signalling the demise of one of many foes to come. With a weary sigh, Silver wiped the remnants from his visor, and trudged onwards.
By his almighty hand, and in the name of the holy Emperor himself, Astartes Toilet Block #32 would be cleansed.
All right, veteran! And marksmans honour! Not bad for my first mission, I'm liking it. I'm happy in the tac squads, but, if it is the Emperor's will, I'll go anywhere. The devastators seem fun.

I don't think your shooting marks are high enough to join our elite devastator squad
That was a dramatic battle/write up. Looks like I was in more danger from my own team mates than the enemy. I guess I'm more of a buffer than fighter. Oh well, seems to be working.
Titan and Hexen, as you've both volunteered for the Sergeant position you'll have to 'compete' to see who gets it. You've got 20 (yes, just 20) words to persuade me why you should be sergeant: you can be insulting, persuasive, humorous, whatever you think will work - you have 'til 12.00 Wedsnesday (GMT time), good luck!
--------------------------
So, as it stands, here are the current squad set-ups (see below), assuming Deth and Nu want moving to Devastator, Rasputin to Tactical and Avatar to Assault. Sound good to you guys?
Therefore, ideally, one or two people from the Tactical Squad will volunteer to go to the Assault Squad? Then Sgt Scruffy, who was first to volunteer, can fill the open slot.
Heck knows why people are moving away from the assault squad, it would be my preference, personally! Maybe they don't trust Trauma's leadership...?
In relevant news:
1) Hold back your tears for this people, hold 'em back... I'm retiring from a combat position and Justimus Davimus will no longer be deployed. It helps save space in the Terminator Squad, whilst I figure you guys will enjoy reading about your own exploits more than my own.
2) Noobimus Maximus: You're promoted to Tactical Squad II sergeant!
3) People in the Terminator Squad: each mission, one of you will be left behind (rotating per mission). For the first, this will be Pertinax, as you aren't exactly low on kills at present!
Terminator Squad: 1) Terminator Hero: Rotgut/ Titan
2) Terminator Veteran: Necroshea/ Isaac Hexen
3) Terminator Hero: Medium of Death/ Medius Ex Decimus
4) Terminator Hero: Vortrey/ Vortigern
5) Terminator Veteran: CthuluIs Spy/ Otto Von Swanzstucker III
6) Terminator Hero:Skarwael/ Herius Pertinax

Still enjoying the posts too, keep it up good sir!
Well I'm now rotating who gets the heavy weapons, but I'll make it so Pertinax won't get a go with the heavy flamer, and Medius won't get a go with the assault cannon: therefore increasing how often you get your preferred heavy weapon!

You've found one flamer, and have been in possibly every mission...
Still, I should be able to put you in a tac squad if other people want moving around.

Yup. Devastator's probably got the most vacancies if you want?
FWIW, the main reason you and Porkpious have had less kills than the other assault marines is because you weren't yet Vets and therefore had lower skills and AP to spend: for you this isn't problem now, as you were promoted last mission. Of course these extra skills/AP helps no matter your squad!
KamikazeCanuck wrote:That was a dramatic battle/write up. Looks like I was in more danger from my own team mates than the enemy. I guess I'm more of a buffer than fighter. Oh well, seems to be working.
I'd say you're quite the opposite, as you often lead from the front bashing heads in! It's just other people got to the 'zerkers first, whilst quickening was so goddamn useful!
Doctadeth wrote:Can I be put up as the heavy/special for tactical or a devastator. IIRC you start facing worse stuff now.
You're already the Tac special weapons dude FWIW? You can't get a flamer in the Devastator Squad, but as I've said before, heavy/special weapons will now be rotated within squad members (making Devastator's more likely to get a go with a heavy weapon).

Kills don't equate to leadership...
He's welcome to run for sergeant though - under the same 'competition' as you guys - but I suspect he's got too much of a hard-on for the assault cannon to want it!
No problem, that one was actually quite pleasing to write.
Thank you for the team shuffle.

Glinting in the bright lights of the armoury, it called to him, beckoning him closer. Herius. Herius' knees grew weak at the thought of handling such a magnificent weapon, such an awe-inspiring instrument of death whose every note and chord sang doom for those who stood against it. He wet his parched lips with the tip of his tongue, his mouth arid and all words lost to him as his eyes inspected every curve, every groove, and every hollow of the beauty lying supine before him, reclining upon delicate supports like an attractive woman upon a plush couch. He yearned to touch it, to feel the inner ferocity belied by its calmness at rest. His body ached to feel the recoil, to control the pounding against his body. He would settle for nothing less.
With a hungry grin upon his face, he tentatively reached out towards it, stroking its long, slender barrels and tracing their curves as if caressing a lover. He removed his gauntlets so that he could feel the cold metal against his bare skin; the frigid contact sent shivers down his spine. With his other hand he poked gently around the trigger, his finger a perfect fit. His heartbeat quickened; his body knew that he was only one move away from unleashing the fury within.
"One day," Herius whispered, brushing his finger lightly against the flat of the trigger, "I'll really make your world spin." And with a sharp jab, he depressed the trigger.

I'm planning for Assault, Devastator and Tactical to get equal exposure/deployment, but in the Dev squad you'll get a heavy weapon every other - rather than every fourth in tac - mission, which is why I assumed you'd want to go there?
n0t_u wrote:I can swap out from assault to devastator or tactical?
If I can choose, I'd like an Assault Cannon. If not then whatever is spare.

Thanks for the applications guys, it was a tricky decision, but the Terminator Sergeant will be... Necroshea/Isaac Hexen!
Whilst a big ol' beard (in particular, I admit) and leading by example would usually get you the position, a picture was original and I'm a big fan of people making a fool of themselves! Cheers guys.

Assault Cannon's only for Terminators I'm afraid.

They are currently the weapons of choice, so you're in luck! Lascannons and Multimeltas should hopefully soon be forthcoming, though...
Annoying setting csms on fire then other people capping them.
Proficio then drops back and would stay out of the action for the rest of the mission, conscious of his survival being necessary to the success of the operation.

We have just deployed again: aiming to take down the enemies Chaos Gate/Warp Portal. Highlights from the mission as it stands:
- We've been shot at.
- We've been shot at by laspistols.
- They have termies too.
- Somebody's killed with every shot they've missed.
- The largely-reformed Assault Squad has proved their worth.
- Somebody has the assault cannon. And has been quickened. And has killed... A LOT.
- So far you guys are looking practically competent. It's actually kinda been a cakewalk... So far.

Fear not, brother, I am currently trying to convince Marneus Calgar that this is more serious than the time Nu got lost playing hide and seek: then we shall assemble the men and coordinate your (probably botched) rescue.
I tried taking screenshots, but it doesn't work, which I think is due the age of the game. I also tried installing camstudio too, but that didn't work either.
I guess I'll have to restart the mission, which SUCKS because it was going beautifully. Which of course means it's going to go horribly in the new one, with misses and casualties aplenty. The only real advantage is that I now know what we're up against, although the strategy was working really well already. *sigh*
In the present one, Nu had missed 2/3 of his shots with the plasma cannon but still killed the intended target (aoe), whilst Titan had killed just about everything with his assault cannon. The only thing that could go better is if Canuck could actually manage to cast his psychic friggin' powers and Kirsanth could hit something!
As it stood - past tense - Titan had killed 2 termies and 5 CSMs, Nu had killed 2 CSMs and weakened one of the termies Tita killed. Silver, Securim and Deth had killed 4, 3 and 2 cultists, respectively, whilst Otto had shrugged off a lot of enemy fire. Alactus had killed 2 CSMs in CC, Porkpious and Shrikenius had killed one each, Vortigern had incinerated another CSM, whilst Medius and Hexen had yet to meet anyone in close combat.
Ack. It's crashing for any type of game/mission now, before I can do anything.
This probably requires a re-installation, which would (I assume) cause a loss of progress/saved games, and therefore the progress made in this thread...

- Two someone's were literally employed as meatshields.
- Three someone's were promoted to Space Marine Hero.
- No someone's died. On our side, anyway.
- And I may have given away a lot of other stuff in my previous post...
The write-up from the latest mission will be uploaded tomorrow.
I have also started the next mission too, in which Isaac Hexen has discovered one of the "perks" of leadership: getting to go first! As such, the Terminator Sergeant is fired upon simultaneously by 4 Word Bearers, will he survive? Tune in another time, sometime, to find out.

Librarian II: KamikazeCanuck/ Canuck (Hellfire, Quickening, The Gate)
With the success of the previous mission and destruction of the enemy's thermal generator, the shields for to their Chaos Gate/Warp Portal have been removed and this prime threat exposed. In this mission we are to eliminate all Chaos forces and destroy the Chaos Gate: thereby preventing Chaos Lord Zymran's opportunity to escape or receive reinforcements.
We deploy in the SE just behind a small hill. In the centre-North of the map is a Cathedral, in which the Chaos Gate is located. Outside this Cathedral, to the near east and west are two small bunkers. In the nearest bunker there are 4 Word Bearers, including one with a missile launcher. In the far (western) bunker are 3 Word Bearers, including a Heavy Bolter and Missile Launcher: the heavy weapon dudes are on the roof of these bunkers.
Deploying in the ashy wastelands, the Ultramarines begin to crest the hill behind which they deployed, the chaos forces in their sights. In the first shot of the mission Nu opens fire with his Plasma Cannon: aiming at the nearest missile launcher armed-Word Bearer and hitting the fortifications in front of him. However, the force of the blast still kills the chaos space marine, scoring first blood for Nu and the Ultramarines! Kirsanth The Almost-Invincible then fires a melta-missile at the missile chaos marine on the roof of the far bunker, also hitting the fortifications but managing to wound the traitor with his missile's area of effect. Securim takes aim with his master-crafted boltgun and hits the chaos marine twice more, before Canuck quickens Titan who strides forwards and cuts down the chaos marine with his assault cannon. Alactus and Doctadeth then cover their brothers with smoke grenades (Doctadeth is visibly disappointed that these particularly grenades don't explode), before the assault squad moves up.
Doctadeth and Silver take aim with their bolters, but miss all their shots; Doctadeth being shot three times in return. Nu then dons his shades, opening fire once more with his plasma cannon and proceeding to hit the fortifications again... And yet still managing to kill a Word Bearer again! Kirsanth tries to follow suit, but misses his shot at the enemies standing out in the open, whilst Securim hits them twice and Silver lets out a squeak of delight as he cuts down an enemy cultist. Doctadeth also hits these chaos space marines three times, whilst Otto Von Swanzstucker III opens fire with his storm bolter and misses. A lot. Titan - who is still quickened - continues to advance and fire, missing a chaos termie several times with his assault cannon. This terminator proceeds to mock his aim, before Titan (uttering something about not wanting to be made angry) rends apart the terminator with two bursts of his assault cannon, then kills another Word Bearer and hits a third.
Otto stomps forwards in his terminator armour, and gets shot 8 times but is barely harmed. Titan then gets shot by laspistol and somehow... survives! With the enemy reeling and two of the three heavy weapons Word Bearers dead, Maxima Trauma once more assembles his assault squad to seize the initiative, activating their jump packs and launching onto the roof of the farthest bunker. Trauma and Alactus engage the Word Bearer with the heavy bolter, Trauma embedding his power axe into the warrior's back, even as Alactus takes his head.
Kirsanth misses again, before Nu hits another terminator that Titan finishes off with his assault cannon, with Titan proceeding to cut down a further three chaos marine in two bursts each! Otto hits another chaos marine five times; killing the heretic. Silver, Securim and Doctadeth then join in on the fun, as Securim and Silver cut down two cultists each, with Doctadeth slaying another. Vortigern then sights up a Word Bearer cowering in the bottom floor of the nearest bunker, laughing deeply as proceeds to incinerate the enemy warrior.
Maxima Trauma and Maximus Porkpious then leap from one bunker to another: landing on the roof of the eastern bunker; teaming up to slay the last Word Bearer there, with Porkpious crushing the traitor's skull within his powerfist. Alactus and Shrikenius The Inept proceed to kill the remaining warriors in the western bunker; Alactus gutting his foe in one swing, whilst Shrikenius punches the other to death, making a pun about power-fisting as he does so.
With all the chaos space marines outside the cathedral slain, the Ultramarine forces begin to assemble outside the cathedral's doors. Isaac Hexen and Medius Ex Decimus lead the way, eager to finally get to grips with the enemy, whilst Titan gets shot by another laspistol; his terminator armour miraculously saving him once more. Securim, Silver and Doctadeth cut down the remaining cultists, whilst Maxima Trauma finds a stasis grenade in a container in the nearest bunker and Silver retrieves a shiny new missile launcher from another container.
As the Ultramarines close on the Cathedral, new assault marine Veltan taking point, a pair of flesh hounds appear. Alactus fires upon one, impressively banishing it with two hits (of five shots) from his plasma pistol. Titan hits the other flesh hound once before his gun jams, with the flesh hound sprinting past Medius (who at this point was complaining about his hacking arm getting twitchy) and launching itself at Otto. The terminator, however, is unharmed by the daemon's attacks and tears apart the beast with his chain fist. Titan then clears his weapon and fires into the cathedral to gun down another chaos terminator, before killing another Word Bearer with one hit! Nu then hits and kills another chaos space marine, also hitting a chaos terminator in the blast who Otto proceeds to kill with his storm bolter.
At this point, as we are about to enter the Cathedral, I planned to have our trusty librarian, Canuck, cast The Gate (something he had been failing to do so far all mission) from outside-to-inside the cathedral. This would grant us greater mobility and options than simply trying to cram through the narrow doorway, and it would allow Hexen and Medius to more easily get into close combat (think Gate of Infinity, the Space Marine Codex psychic power or creating a portal from one location to another). However, although Canuck actually managed to cast the power (twice!), its use was beyond my understanding (psychic powers are tricky things, OK; but my planning was solid) and so I opened up a squad-wide vox channel, declared "feth It" and we charged gung-ho into the cathedral. I read this tactic in the Codex Astartes, I swear.
Alactus, Veltan and Shrikenius led the charge as all good newbies do; the trio teaming up to slaughter the nearest Word Bearer, with Shrikenius getting the final blow. Hexen and Medius then employ another classic Codex Astartes tactic, and move forwards to act as meatshields for Veltan and Alactus (whilst Shrike cowe--- uh... takes cover behind a pillar). Medius performs particularly well in this capacity, soaking up a multitude of bolt shells, whilst Vortigern also steps in to shield Nu.
Shrikenius, however, is attacked by a pink horror - who managed to outmanoeuvre his pillar - but manages to punch the daemon to death, before also crushing the two blue horrors produced from its banishment. Vortigern then crucially sets alight a flanking chaos terminator, who flails about in the fire for a bit before Trauma hits him three times with his plasma pistol, and Securim hits him once more, killing (read: kill-stealing) the traitor. Vortigern then also sets alight a chaos space marine and chaos sorcerer; killing the latter whilst Kirsanth compounds the woes of the former by killing him with a krak missile.
Nu presses the attack, hitting the final chaos terminator with his plasma cannon; with Otto proceeding to riddle the enemy with bolt shells before Canuck sets the enemy alight with hellfire, killing the behemoth. Silver then finishes finishes the final Word Bearer off with his new missile launcher. The enemy dying around him, Veltan rummages through a captured supply crate, finding a Reaper Power Axe (an awesome weapon) and proceeding to stuff the weapon into his pockets before anyone could notice.
The Chaos Gate almost within reach, Hexen shows his close combat abilities and slays the final enemies: extending his arm and flailing his hammer about until it stopped colliding with the pink and blue horrors in front of him. The Chaos forces dispatched, Medius steps forwards and tears apart the Chaos Gate with his lightning claws; earning himself the Imperial Laurel and completing the mission.

Most Dakka award goes to Nu for technically having a 66% hit rate, whilst Titan comes second a 65% hit rate, and that's about it; hit rates were pretty spectacularly low this mission. Vortigern, however, had a 228% hit rate, but flamers don't count for these awards. Maxima Trauma gets the Most Choppa award, for a 100% hit rate in close combat (and 75% ranged) and softening up the enemies for others to finish off. Shrikenius, further impressing on his first mission, comes second for 88%
Man of the Match award is hard to give to anyone except our new Mighty Hero, Titan, for spectacularly killing anyone even remotely shifty looking; although this is likely to be a common theme with the assault cannon. Alactus and Shrikenius get honourable mentions for their impressive results, whilst Trauma also had impressive stats and contributed throughout.
Nu also gets an honourable mention and is awarded the title 'The Best-Worst Shot', for the game giving him a 100% hit rate and him killing two chaos space marines, despite missing them.
The Wooden Bullet award is a toughie... Canuck's casting was pretty weak in the early stages, but I can't blame him for the inability to use The Gate; whilst in general everyone's hit rates were pretty low. However, the award has to go to Kirsanth the Almost-Invincible, for - despite being equipped with a rocket launcher armed with AoE melta missiles - struggling to hit anything all mission. Maybe his wounds have gibbed his eyesight, or maybe he's much better at being hit by, rather than hitting with MISSiles?

blood_ravens_marine, would you be willing to stick with the assault squad permanently?FWIW, you'll almost certainly get more kills (and admittedly, more wounds) in the assault squad.
Oh Lord I get a hammer, Im sure nothing will go wrong there!
For some reason when you put serious friendly fire incident, I get the feeling ol Titan got shot in the back with an assault cannon, but what do I know eh? We have the finest rejects of the Ultramarines after all.
Ignatius Avalon opened his eyes. It was the first respite from his torture since he had been brought aboard the ship and though it had been short, he relished the little rest he was able to obtain. The freshest of his wounds on his glistening, sculpted chest were still red from their recent coagulation, his accelerated healing slowed by the drugs the heretics were forcing into his system. He flexed his biceps, not for the first time testing the cold chains suspending him from the ceiling. Even with the prodigious strength granted by his enhancements, the damnable metal held. Most likely forged using warp sorcery, he thought to himself.
A noise shook him from his revery, prompting him to glance about. As always, he could not penetrate the darkness surrounding the pale column of light centered upon his Adonis-esque form, though he was getting closer to pinpointing where the noise was originating from. Even when these barbarians bled him, his mind sought a way to break free, longing to once again be one with his brothers.
A lone figure stepped lithely into the circle of light, a small smile upon his deceptively boyish face. Ignatius grimaced. He'd heard stories of this beast from his other tormentors. Licarion they called him, a servant of the daemon-god Slaanesh, Lord of Exquisite Suffering, a ravager of entire populations.
Licarion approached the steel table and placed a well worn leather satchel upon it. Ignoring the implements pre-placed upon the table, he opened the bag, pulling from it a thin gold instrument, its appearance mimicking a feather wrenched from some mythical Terran avian.
Licarian approached Ignatius, enjoying the look of anticipation upon that regal face, the sweat from the room's intense heat adorning Ignatius' torso. The youthly inquisitor gently caressed Ignatius' chest with the feather, each small laceration from the razored tips drawing forth a slight gasp, the poisons working their way into his system bringing moans of pain past his lips.
"I hear you've been most rude, withholding that which we wish to know," Licarian cooed. "If you continue to do so, I shall be forced to do this the hard way."
Ignatius exploded, his impotent fury raining down upon his foe. "I'll tell you nothing, you thrice-cursed fiend. I'd rather die than betray my beloved commander and brothers!"
Licarian sighed, his eyes displaying both disappointment and excitement. "Very well, but I did try to warn you." He stepped aside as two Chaos Marines heaved a sealed chest into the room. Licarian slowly unclasped the seals, unleashing the pulsing relic within.
Ignatius' eyes went wide in shock and horror as Licarian slowly lifted the relic from its storage, his mind unable to cope with the implications of the incoming assault upon his body. He let out an involuntary gasp at the sheer size.
Licarian's smile widened, his eyes darkening. "I'll try not to enjoy it too much."
After reading the first 2 paragraphs, I half-expected to find a pizza delivery girl at my door and no money to pay her...if you know what I mean.

Apologies for the delay in the mission report, guys, been busy. This is the write-up from the latest completed mission: the one before the mission I'm currently playing through. Unlike the current WiP mission, this one went very smoothly...
Mission 8 Report:
The Context:
Spoiler:
After our success in destroying the enemy Chaos Gate, they make a hasty retreat, leaving behind them a lone ship and its skeleton crew. For this mission, we were to board the ship and recover the information (via our trusty techmarine, Veri) contained within its data terminals.
Due to the confined nature of the environment we were fighting in, I'm afraid that the action was relatively concentrated around certain individuals. We were clearing individual rooms at a time, moving through corridors only wide enough for 2 or 3 marines. Therefore, due to their superior armour and weaponry, the Terminators would go first; thereby absorbing the enemy fire and earning the lion's share of the kills.

Noobimus Maximus leads the Ultramarines out of the thunderhawk, emerging from into the landing bay to find a group of 5 chaos marines surrounding the boarding party. Noobimus proceeds to krak grenade and shoot a chaos marine, who is grenaded once more by Rasputin, then slain by Herius Pertinax. Leonardius Rhodes then krak grenades another two Word Bearers, with Terribus killing one and Vortigern spectacularly missing the other, who Medius Ex Decimus flames twice and kills. Purplefood the Magnificent V also emerges from the Thunderhawk, frying one word bearer with his meltagun, before missing the other. Hexen smashes this final chaos marine twice with his thunder hammer, but the traitor somehow survives, only to soon-after find Titan's lightning claws embedded in his chest.
The landing bay cleared, the Ultramarine assemble around the set of doors leading deeper into the ship. Hexen and Titan fumble about with the doors, as between their lightning claws, oversized hammer, and generally low IQ, they are unable to overcome the obstacle: requiring techmarine Veri to show his expertise in door handles. The doors open, Hexen is the first into the room and promptly fired upon by four chaos space marines, but comes out unscathed. The terminator sergeant then proceeds to crush one word bearer in close combat, whilst Titan easily rips apart another. Doctadeth lets rip with his plasma cannon, but misses the tightly packed chaos marines (and therefore a great opportunity); whilst Silver fares better and hits two with a melta missile. Vortigern takes aim at the remaining two chaos marines, but misses spectacularly (again!), whilst Nominus Terribus also misses an easy grenade throw. Noobimus then finishes one of the word bearers, whilst Nu and Rhodes team up to kill the other; Nu getting the final shot.
Hexen leads once more through the next set of doors; being shot eight times and once more coming out unscathed. Medius follows in behind him - whilst quickened by Canuck - and is shot by both a laspistol(!) and flamer, but is also unharmed. Medius, clearly pissed at being the guy getting flamed, subsequently flames and sets alight three Word Bearers in return. Rhodes kills one of these flaming chaos marines, before Pertinax guns down two more Word Bearers with his assault cannon; including another one of the flaming buggers. Medius then hits the flaming Chaos Marine three more times: who somehow still stands, but eventually dies from the flames. Canuck sets alight another chaos marine with hellfire, before quickening Titan who cuts apart another. Securim Fulmen, Sergeant of the Devastators, kills a pair of cultists, whilst Rasputin and Noobimus Maximus each kill another. Kirsanth then guns down another chaos marine, whilst Rhodes shoots another twice, whom Vortigern [chain]fists and Titan kills.
There were three further rooms beside us; two small cells and a third room through which we would need to move to continue the mission. Hexen and Purple form up outside one of these cells, with Purple injuring himself as he runs through the flames left by Medius (clearly blaming Medius, rather than himself). Pertinax tries to blast down the door with his assault cannon, but misses ( ). Hexen then knocks down the door with his thunder hammer, finding two chaos marines within who shoot and actually wound the terminator sergeant; with Hexen proceeding to crush both with ease. Vortigern opens the other cell, but finds it empty.
Vortigern is then tasked to... open another door(!!) leading into the next chamber; finding a trio of chaos marines inside. Pertinax guns down one of these Word Bearers, with Vortigern killing the second and wounding the third, who Purple runs forwards and melts... with his melting gun. Vortigern is then quickened by Canuck and continues his spree of door opening: finding a group of five tightly packed cultists behind the next. Medius flames all five cultists and kills three, before Vortigern gleefully kills the stragglers. At this stage, another group of cultists teleport behind the main Ultramarines force, with Silver easily killing the trio with one shot of his missile launcher. Picking their way through the remnants of the enemy and debris left by their brothers, Rhodes and Rasputin find a plasma gun and flamer respectively, praising the god emperor and santy claus as they do so.
At the next set of doors, Pertinax takes point and tests his hand at door-handle operating: proving to be successful at the momentous task and finding a trio of pink horrors on the other side.Silver banishes two of the daemons, whilst Canuck slays a third and a trio of blue horrors in close combat (without suffering any harm in return): before Pertinax kills the remaining blue horrors. Advancing further down the corridor, Medius flames another pair of pink horrors and a trio of blue horrors in his overwatch fire, with the remaining horrors crushed by Vortigern in close combat.
His eyes lighting up at the taste of combat and the scent of burning traitors, Medius then gets a little carried away, however and hits Vortigern with his flamer: setting alight his squadmate, who breaks! Canuck then quickens Rhodes, who kills a pink horror and its two subsequent blue horrors, before Rhodes further compounds the woes of Vortigern and also shoots his teammate! Medius, clearly undeterred by his flaming brother, then banishes another pink horror in two hits, with Pertinax slaying the blue horrors it produces. Titan - once more quickened by Canuck; with lightning claws, extra AP and additional attacks making a devastating combo - then slays a pink horror and the two blue horrors it too produces. By the time he recovers from his ordeal and breaking, Vortigern is seriously wounded; with his Terminator armour dangerously compromised and his faith in his team-mates shattered.
As we open the penultimate set of doors, the final objective in sight, Canuck (who is clearly very adept at casting quickening) quickens Pertinax once more, with Pertinax opening the penultimate doors and finding a Tzeentchian Flamer. The Terminator doesn't hesitate, however, and guns down the daemon without breaking a sweat.
Taking over on point, Medius leads the way into the control room and is shot (but unharmed) by a plasma gun; proceeding to flame two of the Word Bearers within. Pertinax cuts down three chaos marines - including the two so nicely grilled by Medius - before Titan rips apart the fella with the plasma gun. The final Chaos Space Marines slain, all that stands between us and the final objective are the tightly packed cultists on the gantries above. Doctadeth kills four of these cultists with one shot of his plasma cannon, with Silver killing another. Medius slays three more, before Rhodes immolates the final two. With the remaining enemies slain, Canuck quickens the techmarine, Veri - who had been chilling at the back all mission - who accesses the data terminals, only to find that our captured brother, Ignatius Avalon is aboard the very same ship! With this news of our brother, we ready the assault squad and apothecary Cato, and prepare for our next mission: a rescue mission.

------------------------------------
As expected, and due to the nature of the mission (and outlined in the context section), the Terminators really dominated the kill roster. But still, everyone managed to get a kill! Poor ol' Veri had to spend the entirety of the mission sat at the back and so didn't even fire a shot! Veri will however be deployed next mission too; to give him a proper chance at getting some kills.
The Man of the Match award goes to Medius Ex Decimus, who is awarded the title of "The Unbound Flame" (a 40K reference): for whilst he didn't get the most kills, he undoubtedly got the most hits and contributed throughout, despite setting alight one of his team-mates. In fact, Medius got our highest hit-rate yet, with a 281% hit rate: hitting 45 enemies, despite only firing 16 shots! Doctadeth and Silver got similarly high hit rates with their AoE weapons too: with a 233% and 200% hit rate, respectively.
An honourary mention goes to Canuck, who was a huge asset once more: quickening folks throughout, as well as cutting down or burning alive enemies when required.
The Most Dakka award goes to Leonardius Rhodes: who had an 83% hit rate and the highest kill-count outside of the Terminators. Noobimus Maximus comes 2nd with 75%, whilst Pertinax, Shooter of Bad Guys, is 3rd with 73%: something all the more impressive considering his RoF and kill total! The most Dakka Award is tricky though: as Securim, Kirsanth, Nu and even Rasputin all had 100% hit rates, but had fired less than 5 shots (with the medal only being awarded to people that have fired 5 or more shots).
The Most Choppa award goes to Canuck, who had a 100% hit rate (out of 7 attacks), whilst Titan is second with a very, very impressive 90% hit rate (out of 21 attacks). Isaac Hexen, meanwhile, is third with a 88% hit rate.
The Wooden Bullet award goes to Vortigern, who managed to achieve the lowest hit rates in both ranged and melee combat! What's more, he also managed to dispel the myth of Terminators being invincible (although that's not his own fault) or our best soldiers! Whats more, the guys that shot him still somehow managed to earn awards for their marksmanship!
The all outta gum award goes to Herius Pertinax, Shooter of Bad Guys, of course; for his - once again - ridiculous kill total. Although the Assault Cannon may have had something to do with this...
Just finished the latest mission and successfully(ish) recovered our Librarian, Ignatius Avalon! Great work guys, lets hope the sacrifices were worth it... Highlights:
- We suffered another casualty, and its about a 1 in 3 chance it was you!
- That's 3 KIA in total this mission, and would've been much worse without our apothecary there!
- Someone managed to shoot himself.
- Someone beat up a Dark Apostle in close combat.
- Someone fought (and killed) on, despite his grievous wounds and ruined armour.
- Someone found a lascannon!
- The enemy (rightfully) targeted Canuck.
- Some cracked under pressure, others excelled.
OK, I won't have time to finish this tonight, but here's a write-up so far from the mission: one more casualty is still yet to come, as is one more humiliation and some real beat-downs...

As we deploy from the Thunderhawk, Isaac Hexen takes point; leading the Ultramarines out and crushing a chaos marine with his Thunder Hammer. Otto follows out behind him - definitely not staring at his ass - and then guns down two chaos marines in two bursts each, including one with a lascannon. Vortigern follows them out also, and lines up a Khorne Berzerker with his heavy flamer but cocks up his shot and hits a pillar... catching two of our sergeant's (including his; Hexen and Maxima Trauma) in the flames, setting the latter alight who also breaks (for his 2nd time so far).
Canuck then quickens Leonardius Rhodes, who sprints forwards, levelling his heavy weapon and hitting the Berzerker Vortigern so spectacularly missed. Otto Von Swanzstucker III, Maxima Trauma, Canuck and Apothecary Cato are then hit by a pair of grenades, with Canuck getting injured in the blast(s). Canuck quickens Medius Ex Decimus, who marches forwards and proceeds to slice and dice the grenadier chaos marine. With the Berzerkers unharmed by Vortigern and Rhodes' not-so-literal and somewhat-literal sharpshooting, they are free to charge forwards but both are subsequently crushed by Hexen in close combat. Rhodes then misses the third berzerker and instead HITS SOME BARRELS! Noobimus Maximus, however, is able to hit the berzerker three times, whilst Rasputin and Purple The Magnificent V only managing to hit him once, with Purple also managing to shoot Veltan in the back! Vortigern then both hits(!) and kills the berzerker, whilst Trauma recovers from his friendly (literal) fire incident; being unharmed (much to Cato's disappointment), but with his armour ruined.
The landing bay cleared, we proceed through the subsequent set of doors: finding a group of chaos marines (including a heavy bolter and lascannon), a tzeentchian flamer and pink horror within. Rhodes hits two chaos marines and the flamer with one shot from his plasma cannon. Cato then shoots the flamer four times, Shrike two times and then Otto an extra four times with his assault cannon; Otto (unsurprisingly) getting the kill. Trauma hits one of the chaos marines two times (out of two shots) with his plasma pistol, slaying the heretic before Canuck cuts down the other with his force axe. Herius Pertinax is then shot by two Word Bearers, including one with a heavy bolter; but his terminator armour protects him: coming out with barely a dent. The Chaos Marine with the lascannon also fires at Pertinax... and misses, thankfully!
Pertinax then shoots the lascannon dude four times, before Vortigern sets him alight and kills, and Alactus cuts down the chaos marine with the heavy bolter. Shrikenius the Inept sets alight another chaos marine, that Veltan slays with his new reaper power axe, but not before being wounded in return; with Cato subsequently healing Veltan. Eager to surpass the questionable efforts of Veltan, Maximus Porkpious launches himself at the pink horror; swinging at the daemon with his power fist. However, the assault marine is barely able to hit the creature, with the daemon then leaping upon and (much to the embarrassment of everybody) KILLING PORKPIOUS! Techmarine Veri then attempts to avenge his brother, hitting the daemon twice but being wounded in return, with Rasputin subsequently banishing the horror. Veri then kills one of the blue horrors it produces, with Terribus killing the other with the aid of his sergeant (Noobimus).
The immediate area cleared, Purple opens the next door, with Canuck quickening Medius once more, who shrugs off another hit from a flamer (pretty sure this guy should be a Salamander) and cuts down a berzerker with his lightning claws. Vortigern then sets alight the flamer-equipped chaos marine, who Otto finishes off before gunning down an enemy sorcerer. Rhodes hits another berzerker, who Noobimus hits with one of his three shot and Otto also finishes off. Canuck then casts hellfire, setting alight another of the khornate warriors, who Terribus and Rasputin both hit but are unable to kill. Pertinax then guns down this berzerker with his storm bolter, before also hitting another chaos marine who Rasputin, Noobimus and Purple shoot also, but Otto kills (again).
Veri throws himself at one of the Word Bearers, hitting him three times with servo arm and power axe alike. The chaos marine is unphased, however, and thrusts his combat blade into the wounds left by the pink horror: KILLING THE TECHMARINE (once more much to the embarrassment of everybody) in one strike; with Purple then gunning down Veri's slayer. Medius then shows them how close combat is done: wading into the fog left by our smoke grenades and flailing his arms about: killing a chaos marine with a heavy bolter, despite being unable to see the warrior.
Rhodes hits a group of four khorne berzerkers with one blast from his plasma cannon, before Canuck casts hellfire, setting alight all four and killing one! Vortigern pursues after them as they flee (as daintily as he can[not] in his terminator armour) and flames them again, with one dying from the flames. Purple, Noobimus and Alactus then all miss one of these berzerkers, who Otto proceeds to one-shot (and kill). Terribus, Noobimus and Pertinax then shoot one of these berzerkers also, with Pertinax hitting him with every one of his (many) shots; requiring Purple to one-shot and kill the traitor (much to Pertinax's dismay).
Veltan cuts down another of the flaming berzerkers, but is flanked by a tzeentch flamer. Rasputin tries to aid the assault marine, but is unable to hit the warrior; so Canuck quickens Otto who stomps forwards and unleashes his assault cannon upon the flamer, which somehow survives. Otto then steps forwards and shields Veltan, shouting something about a codpiece as he does so. The flamer then advances into range of the Ultramarines, but Otto (still quickened) kills it and a pair of pink horrors. Rasputin tries to shoot one of the blue horrors, but instead HITS SOME BARRELS(!!), so Otto then kills the two blue horrors too. Rasputin then kills one of the other blue horrors, whilst Alactus cuts down the other but gets wounded in the process: requiring Cato to heal him also. Maxima Trauma then blasts apart the last of the fleeing berzerkers with his plasma pistol.
At this point, we have cleared out the immediate enemy forces, leaving one last room to clear: a particularly large hall with three cells at the back, one of which no doubt containing the captured Ignatius Avalon. This hall has stone pillars running along either side, upon which are walkways, leading to a raised area above the back (above the cells). There are three entrances: the main entrance at the front - on the far side to the cells - and two side passageways running alongside the hall leading to entrances on either side of the raised area at the back. Here, we split into three groups: Hexen, Vortigern, Trauma and Shrike head through the far passageway to the farthest entrance to the raised area, whilst Rasputin, Medius, Veltan and Alactus go along the near passageway (where the horrors and flamer were). The remainder of the Ultramarines, alongside Canuck and Cato, take the main door in the centre: terminators and heavy weapons at the fore; with Terribus even finding a lascannon in a nearby supply crate!
As they advance along the farthest passage, the group of Ultramarines there come across a quartet of daemonic bloodletters. Rhodes - who was supporting the group before heading back to the main entrance - hits one with his plasma cannon, banishing the daemon; whilst Vortigern flames another twice (turns out daemons aren't very flammable, who knew?) before Hexen steps forwards, with Trauma and Shrikenius in support, ready to receive the enemy charge. One of the bloodletters injures itself running through the flames, before getting overwatched and banished by Shrikenius, with another banished by some sharpshooting by Trauma. Hexen, after picking his jaw up from the floor having witnessed Trauma's shooting, crushes the last bloodletter in close combat: slaying the daemon without breaking a sweat. With the bloodletter's banished, the group in the farthest passageway move up to breach the door at their end, and with that the Ultramarines are ready to clear the final hall and rescue Avalon.
Bursting through the main entrance, Pertinax is the first in and faces heavy fire as he does so: targeted by a medley of terminators, chaos marines and berzerkers, with the venerable terminator's armour seriously compromised and Pertinax himself wounded. Apothecary Cato heals Pertinax, before dropping back into cover (Cato must survive for the mission to be completed), before Rhodes fumbles when he was most needed: missing a group of three word bearers, including a sorcerer. Terribus also misses his shot with the heavy weapon, but is quickened by Canuck and so fires again, hitting a terminator with his second shot. Pertinax seeks his vengeance on the enemy, fighting on despite his wounds as he hits the sorcerer with all but one of his shots! The sorcerer somehow survives, however, but is promptly cut down by Otto, who also fires upon the other terminator. Canuck impresses further, as he casts his another psychic power under this most crucial of circumstances: casting hellfire upon and killing a terminator, as well as hitting another word bearer.
Noobimus and Purple don't fare as well under the circumstances however: cracking when we need them most, as Noobimus misses all his shots and Purple his grenade throws. Vortigern does even worse, as although he hits a chaos marine with his first shot (although not setting alight), he then misses his second shot: hitting the wall beside him and managing to set himself alight! Covered in his own flames, Vortigern then breaks, fleeing down the passageway he came from. Medius and Hexen perform better, however, as they team up to kill a chaos terminator: with both warriors hitting with all their attacks and Hexen killing . Rasputin also cracks under pressure (or just performs normally, you decide) and is only able to hit with one of his four shots, whilst Trauma only fairs slightly better and hits with two of his four shots. Shrikenius, however is able to hit a chaos marine with his hand flamer, but is unable to set the warrior alight. Veltan continues the trend of screwing up when it matters most, as he misses a wealth of close combat attacks before getting wounded (against a plain combat knife-armed chaos marine) in return: requiring Alactus to come to his aid and slay the warrior.
With the Ultramarine hand played, the Chaos forces launched their counter-attack. A pair of chaos marines target Canuck from across the other side of the hall: the librarian being hit six times but coming out practically unharmed. Purple the Magnificent V and Otto are less fortunate however, as both are hit five times by a combi-flamer, with Purple getting set alight and breaking. To make matters worse, Purple is hit by a pair of grenades, but survives. As he's about to proclaim his invincibility, however, a third grenade sails in, exploding and killing Purple! Pertinax is targeted further too, with him and Rhodes also being grenaded. Pertinax is then charged by a khorne berzerker, but tears apart the warrior with his chainfist, before killing another that was rushing towards Canuck; getting wounded further as he does so. Otto also kills a berzerker in close combat: crushing its chest with his powerfist. Noobimus, Terribus and Rhodes (again) are also hit by grenades, with Noobimus coming out unharmed, but Terribus and Rhodes wounded in the blasts.
Recovering from his wounds, Terribus hits the combi-flamer-terminator with his lascannon, before Noobimus hits him thrice and Otto kills. Rhodes then hits a berzerker with his plasma cannon, before skilfully killing him with a krak grenade. Continuing despite his wounds, Pertinax tears open the chaos space marine that killed Purple, whilst Hexen engages the dark apostle in close combat: crushing the enemy leader with just two hits from his thunder hammer! Shrikenius, meanwhile, shrugs off the enemy combat blade and kills a word bearer, whilst Rasputin and Alactus are unable to hit (let alone kill) another. With only two chaos marines remaining. Canuck quickens Pertinax who shoots another word bearer A LOT, with Trauma shooting the same chaos marine thrice, but he still stands and proceeds to both grenade and shoot Pertinax who is now clinging to life: seriously wounded with his armour destroyed (Kirsanth would be proud). Despite his wounds, however, Pertinax trudges forwards and slays the chaos marine with his chainfist. Veltan and Alactus then engage the final chaos marine in close combat, but neither marine is unable to kill him, with Veltan almost getting shanked (AGAIN) in return. So Noobimus guns down the heretic (who turned out to be champion).
The final enemies slain, Canuck quickens Cato who heals Pertinax, whilst Vortigern recovers from his own flames and is unharmed (proving my theory that terminators are - unsurprisingly - practically fireproof). Otto and Shrikenius then bash down two of the cell doors at the end of the hallway, but find the rooms empty; and so Medius claws down the last door and finds Ignatius Avalon within, in a near-death state, requiring Cato to heal the librarian and complete the mission.

----------------------------
Man of the Match award goes to Canuck, for his consistent service throughout the mission: reliably casting powers to quicken team-mates and incinerate enemies, particularly when it mattered most. Herius Pertinax gets an honourable mention, for his sharpshooting and combat prowess, fighting on despite grievous wounds and everyone loosing their heads around him.
Most Dakka award goes to Otto, for a massive 83% hit rate, having fired 36 shots. Pertinax comes second with 82% and 35 shots, whilst Alactus is third with 100% hit rate and 9 shots. The Most Choppa award goes to Isaac Hexen, for a very impressive 100% hit rate after 13 attacks, whilst Pertinax is second with 100% also, but 9 attacks. Medius is third with 84% and 16 attacks.
The Needs More Gun award goes to Pertinax, for somehow surviving despite all the fire thrown at him - although he surely would have died if it wasn't for Cato.
The All Out of Gum award goes to Otto, for slaying a huge amount of enemies: earning over 60% of his overall XP in this mission alone! How much of this is the assault cannon, however, you decide...
There's a lot of worthy mentions for the Wooden Bullet award. The winner has to be Vortigern, however, for setting himself alight and causing himself to break, as well as flaming two team-mates. Veri is second, for dying embarrassingly to one of the weakest enemies in the game, in his second taste of combat. Veltan gets an honourable mention for a terrible hit rate in ranged and close combat, as well as almost getting shanked three times. Purple gets another honourable mention, for the lowest hit rate (a terrible 28%; Rasputin was second worst), shooting a team-mate and dying.
I love how people are saying "RIP Pork" (and somehow not laughing at him) and completely ignoring the death of one of the HQ's!

Whoops, my mistake! Yeah, Veri is veri dead!
I could swear I saw Canuck eyeing up his skull, khornate style, but he may have just been hungry...
Doctadeth wrote:Well, I am glad I am not deployed this mission. Am I to become a terminator or still remain a Devastator with the Crux?
You'll remain a Devastator for the time being I think (and you did earn the crux slaying the weediest enemies in the game ), but I may rotate the Terminator Squad later in the campaign...
God dammit! Well looks like its back to killing aliens in X-Com for myself XD
I killed like what 1 or 2 things? How pitiful...
You killed a thing: a blue horror, the second weakest enemy in the game! I'm afraid there's no spare spots to respawn you either (only slots for two techmarines), which means Imperitus is now our sole techmarine.
If no-one dies for their second time though, then I'll give you a mission as the dreadnought (I'll PM you if you do).

That's cause we're all pretty much enlisted men. We'd rather mourn one of our own, screw the officers!
... Sir!
Well played, maggot.

Nah, it'll just make an excellent paperweight. I am a librarian you know.
Good thinking! You could store quills or candy in it too...
All records of the second half of the report have been expunged by order of the Inquisition.
Although records have been removed, the Inquisition offers assurances that the mission was a resounding success, and that no further battle brothers were harmed in the process. The Inquisition would also like to remind you not to question the sudden disappearances of 2 Terminators, 3 Assault Marines, and the entirety of Tactical Squad II, and offers its most sincere assurances that they are, without a shadow of a doubt - for doubt is but the first step on the road to damnation - not dead.

Sorry guys: been too busy and haven't had a chance to play Chaos Gate. Rest assured that if I had, I'm sure you would have all done great; without any casualties, instances of friendly fire, or self-harm happening at all.
