I've just installed Chaos Gate on my computer successfully (I think; it's an old, temperamental game) and have created this thread for two reasons: 1) for people to volunteer themselves to be a Space Marine in my campaign playthrough, and 2) for people to discuss the game in general (any advice/tips are welcome).
If you want to become one of my Space Marines (and quite possibly suffer a humiliating, painful death as a result of my command), just post letting me know. Give me a name for your character (mine's Justimus Davimus for example) and what position you would like to fill (as well as preferred weapons). You can also provide a character-profile for me to use, such as you wanting to be running upfront, sniping from the rear, healing teammates etc.
There are 5 Tactical Squads (incl. heavy or special weapons (so flamer etc. or lascannon etc.) trooper), an assault squad, a devastator squad and a terminator squad. Each squad has 5 Marines including a sergeant and 4 marines; some of whom can have heavy/special/fancy-close-combat weapons as desired.
I'll update the thread with your achievements, kills, awards and even deaths (I can respawn/recreate you if there's space).
I'm afraid we're all full-up and can no longer accept new recruits, apologies! Feel free to watch the thread and join in the fun nonetheless, though.
If you don't know what Chaos Gate is, it's an old (1998) turn-based, squad-based game where you play as a small force of Ultramarines fighting Chaos (Word Bearers, Cultists, Daemons): think of it as a more customisable, more personal/close-up Dawn of War, consisting of 5-20 Space Marines and occasionally a vehicle. This video demonstrates the gameplay of one of the missions: skip to 1.32 to view the squad screens, which is basically where I'll customise/create you, then from then it just goes through the mission.
The squads and members currently are:
Terminator Squad I: 1) Terminator Mighty Hero Sergeant: Necroshea/ Isaac Hexen
2) Terminator Mighty Hero: CthuluIs Spy/ Otto Von Swanzstucker III
3) Terminator Mighty Hero: Medium of Death/ Medius Ex Decimus
4) Terminator Mighty Hero: Vortrey/ Vortigern
5) Terminator Mighty Hero:Skarwael/ Herius Pertinax
6) Terminator Mighty Hero: Rotgut/Titan
Librarian I: Dr What/ Ignatius Avalon
Librarian II: KamikazeCanuck/ Canuck
Librarian III: Shrike/ Shrikenius the Inept
Librarian IV
Techmarine I: ProfessionalAmateur/ Proficio Imperitus
Techmarine II: johnscott10/ Veri - Killed In Action
Apothecary I: Ifepy/ Cato
Apothecary II: Avatar 720/ Won T'urrtabit
Chaplain
Captain (The Chaplain and Captain are only available in the last 2 missions, and I don't know if I'll get that far).
Ooohh! This sounds like fun. I remember playing the demo of Chaos Gate a lot when I was a kid ages ago. Unfortunately I never got the full game.
Can I sign up? I'll be "Herius Pertinax". I can't think of anything witty, so, I'll go with one of my best characters from Rome: TW. You can put me wherever you want, though I'd prefer to be at range
This seems fun, maybe you could use game capture to post the missions for us all to watch?
I'll take the Devastator Sergeant position, someone has to bring up the heavy guns after all, can't kill those chaos spawn with the "little guns" can we?
Sergeant Caninus Securim Fulmen
Heavy Bolter & Melee Weapon if applicable, though I don't think Devastator can take any given they are burdened with their Big Guns, but if not that's fine.
Also can you give them any other options, like an Iron Halo?
I'd like the Chaplain spot but seeing as you said you won't need it ill jump into any open tac position! Can't wait to see my guy die a horrible death!
Brother Titan reporting for a gruesome death, give Titan some purity seals and send him on his way!
Sadly I do not own the game, but do keep us posted how it goes
Dreadnought's don't appear for a while, so I've thrown you in as a standard marine in the Devastator Squad. Here's to hoping you die a particularly gruesome death in the meantime...
CthuluIsSpy wrote:Should be fun.
I'll have a gander - Otto Von Swanzstucker III = Heavy Weapons specialist.
Ah, how I would like to play Chaos Gate. Sadly, it doesn't work :(
Final Liberation does work for me, but there was no sound. I don't know where I stored it either :/
You don't happen to know how to get Final Liberation working on a 64-bit PC do you?

Devastator squad is about as ranged as it can get...

Yeah, I wouldn't mind a gander, thanks.

Done. Librarian's don't appear 'til around 4/5th mission, however.

Done. Thrown you in the first squad. Die well, brother.

Narp. I'm afraid - beyond the assault squad and grenade options - options are fairly limited. Don't think I can give you both the heavy weapon and sergeant position, so you'll need to choose one or the other methinks, apologies.
Don't happen to know of a free game capture-thing-a-me do you?
Assault Squad VII (can have assorted CCW's):
4) Marine: Position open
I'll jump in here, helps fill out a squad. Hmm, I guess you can shorten my Dakka name to Nu to make it work. Weapons... I guess a power sword or a special one if available and a plasma pistol.
Part way through the second mission, no casualties yet, although Otto Von Swanzstucker III has been wounded.
Silver, you signed up too late to be given a heavy weapon I'm afraid, but you'll get one next mission. I'm not sure I want to give you such a weapon though - I'm pretty sure you've not hit a single thing yet! I've moved you to the point man to at least catch some bullets!
Rasputin was given a heavy bolter (usually to be Silver's) this mission and has been racking up the kills. Maybe not entirely fairly though...
I threw Doctadeth into Tactical Squad II until his squad is filled up and he was lucky enough to find a missile launcher at the beginning of the mission. With which he proceeded to shoot some... BARRELS! TWICE!
More in-depth updates to follow later, I've been taking notes as I go, whilst - of course - leading from the front (much to Securim's dismay it seems).
Automatically Appended Next Post: Whoops. Looks like I forgot to give Swanzstucker a heavy/special weapon. He's still been getting some kills though.

Well this could be fun. Brother Proficio Imperitus reporting for duty! (best put me as a techmarine or apothecary, so I don't have to do any actual fighting.)

Well someone's just volunteered as an apothecary, so I'll make you a techie. Will be actual fighting though: techmarines are pretty handy in close combat.

There's some glitch with it, if I remember correctly, if you had the trial and it expired. Even if you bought it. Can't remember how to fix it though, but could be that.
Just finished Mission Two. The details and kill roster:
The mission briefing is in this video, with two squads being allowed and the Devastator squad being now accessible. Tactical Squad II and Devastator Squad VIII were brought along for the ride.
Upon arriving at the dropsite on Kimmerra III, Doctadeth (in 2nd Squad, as he was then the only member of 3rd Squad and 2nd Squad was missing a recruit) found a ROCKET ( ) launcher in the Thunderhawk.
In a display of deft - if I do say so myself - shooting Justimus Davimus riddled the first Word Bearer with Bolt Shells, with Rasputin (equipped with a missile launcher) hitting a second with a Krak missile. Both Traitor Marines survived and were both promptly killed by Pertinax's heavy bolter (with he being the other resident Devastator heavy weapons dude).
Otto Von Swanzstucker III (god that names a pain ) was then wounded and had to heal himself, whilst Vortigern took aim at an enemy cultist, uttering "The Emperor orders you to die", before missing with all his shots.
Securim Fulmen (the sergeant of the Devastator Squad) led from the front: taking point before skillfully slaying two cultists without harm to himself.
Silver (also of the Devastators) tried to follow his sergeant, but missed with all his shots. He, with Titan and Brutus (Devastator Marine without a Dakkanaut) sought to flank the enemy. Whilst Silver missed with all his shots, Titan one-shotted a Chaos Space Marine (one shotting a CSM is (very) impressive, one-shotting a cultist is less so).
Rasputin fired his missile into a hill, whilst Pertinax did the same.Vortigern, however, shoots two fleeing cultists in the back (interpret that how you like), killing one, with Otto Von Swanzstucker III finishing off the other. Doctadeth shot a cultist with a frag missile, also... BLOWING UP SOME BARRELS!! Silver continues to fire badly, with Pertinax finishing off his target as well (there's two themes emerging there).
I show Securim Fulmen how leading by example is done: sprinting across open ground into cover, with Securim blowing apart a cultist in response.
Doctadeth frags SOME MORE BARRELS (and the Chaos Marine hiding behind them), with Rasputin then hitting this Chaos Marine with a krak missile . The Word Bearer somehow survives, only to be killed by Pertinax... AGAIN. Silver then takes point - to compensate for his poor shooting, with Pertinax finishing off ANOTHER Word Bearer hit by Rasputin's Krak missile: you could argue whether this is good teamwork or plain kill stealing...
Vortigen gets a frag grenade in the face from a cultist, whom I subsequently blow apart. Vortigen moves round a structure to flank the enemy, before being pinned by a CSM, who Rasputin kills (finally in one-shot (with a krak missile).
Myself and Silver enter the structure to try and get a pesky cultist whom may otherwise flank us, with Silver leading the way missing with a gutsy shot at the cultist. Although his cover seemed secure, two Chaos Space Marines open fire: getting through his cover and KILLING SILVER. Pertinax then kills (all by himself for once) the Chaos Space Marine that killed Silver, with Securim Fulmen spinning on one knee to kill the (now flanking) Cultist that Silver and I were trying to get.
Otto Von Swanzstucker III runs himself (not me as his commander, oh no) into a dead end and ends up too far away to help with closing in on the final objective.
Heading towards the final objective and mined tunnel it was contained within, Titan takes point, whilst Doctadeth goes slightly overkill and kills a Cultist with a Krak missile: causing his buddies to flee. Titan then kills a cultist whilst on overwatch (something he seems particularly good at) and then shoots his buddy, with me killing another. Rasputin then tries to lead the way to the final objective, but is almost killed by a pair of hidden Word Bearers. He then shoots (but doesn't kill) one with a Krak missile before hastily falling back into cover to heal himself.
Brutus gets hit by two grenades and exploding barrels, but comes out practically unscathed. He is then, however, wounded by a Cultists laspistol and blows the blighter apart in response. Titan yells "let Chaos taste this" before hitting a Word Bearer in the face with a Krak Grenade (they say these lines in game btw, this isn't me making it up). Securem Fulmen slays the final Cultist, whilst Doctadeth secures the final objective.
The three most accurate Marines were: Securin Fulmen with 72%, Titan with 70%, and Doctadeth with 66%. Silver, however, had a 15% hit rate!
Kill Roster and awards:
1)Pertinax: 6 Chaos Space Marines, 2 Chaos Cultists. Awarded the Marksmans honour and is the only member of the Devastator Squad promoted to Veteran.
2)Titan: 2 Chaos Space Marines, 7 Chaos Cultists. Promoted to Veteran and already had the Marksmans honour.
3)Vortigern: 1 Chaos Space Marine, 1 Chaos Cultist. Promoted to Veteran and already had the Marksmans honour.
4)Securim Fulmen: 5 Chaos Cultists
5)Rasputin: 1 Chaos Space Marine
6=)Brutus: 3 Chaos Cultists
6=)Justimus Davimus: 3 Chaos Cultists. Promoted to Veteran, and already had the Marksmans honour and Imperial Laurel.
Doctadeth: 2 Chaos Cultists: promoted to Veteran and awarded the Imperial Laurel (for securing the final objective), and already had the Marksmans Honour.
7)Otto Von Swanzstucker III: 1 Chaos Cultist
8)Silver: no kills (alongside dying and a 15% hit rate! I love this guy)
Pretty sure Veterans are promoted for having taken part in two missions (with Tactical Squad II having been in Mission 1).
Personal awards for Most Dakka go to Pertinax, for - although many of these were practically kill steals or had already been hit by a Krak missile for example - he did kill a heck of a lot, reliably. Titan comes a close second: often taking point and also getting a tonne of kills, despite only being armed with a bolter and not needing others to do his work for him! Silver, of course, gets the booby prize, for somehow managing to do worse than everyone else at everything (this literally brings a smile to my face).
----------------------
Next mission I get to use the Assault Squad and Librarian, too.

Either Assault or Devastator, whichever gets the most use.
Assault probably gets the most use. Many reckon it to be the best uni in the game, second only to Terminators. Its a high-risk position though: you're more likely to die than the others (except maybe Silver)...

I think I will haunt you now
It's alright, I'll respawn you as it were. Want to be in the same squad?
Chaos Gate seems like a really fun game, from a look around the intertubes it seems like a bit of a pain to get it running. Is this so sir Dave? What OS are you using? Do you have the disc, or did you download it from Steam?

Yeah, it's pretty old and difficult to run (at the very least, I save it every turn when I remember as it's prone to crashing). Final Liberation is even better, but AFAIK won't run on 64-bit machines.
I'm running it off a disc and - this time at least - actually had no problems installing it.

I do want terminator honours, but I don't want to die... throw me in the assault squad! Blood for the Blood God erm... Emperor!
Although if the Librarian is still up for grabs and can eventually get terminator honours I'll jump into that.

I don't think characters/HQ's can actually get termie armour, so we'll stick with the assault squad?
Not sure if I'll do videoing/bandicam as well... I'll look into it, but depending on how much effort it takes it may not be worth it; considering each mission takes probably at least an hour, which I imagine will be pretty dull- meaning the report may be better? Reports will be done at least, and I'll try bandicam and see how it goes/how much effort it takes.

'fraid you're stuck with a standard bolter for now. I put you in the Devastator squad as a standard Marine until the Dreadnought appears. To be fair, Devastator's will get a lot of face time!

You bet your Ceramite encased ass we do Captain!
Just follow my lead boys, remember having the big stick doesn't mean anything if you can't hit anything! (Silver... lol/jk)
Quite proud of both my accuracy and kill count, being tops of the first and fairly high in the second is a respectable slot for a Brother Sergeant to hold! But I shouldn't get cocky, that's when the rookie mistakes happen... lol
So Dave, what did you end up equipping me with? Was I able to take a Heavy Bolter? If so keep it, though I'll gladly take a Lascannon later on, if your gonna vaporize some poor heretic's head, you might as well use a Lascannon!
Hey no quarreling over kills boys! Kill count is on a first come first serve basis, so try not to miss! (sorry Silver, but you superb talent for missing and getting killed thereafter is just too funny of a joke to give up on, lmao )
Not sure what to do regarding Tac squads for the next mission...
Do I run squad III and put in some Marines from squad II to fill the numbers (this is my probable choice), or run squad II with Marines from squad III?
Or do I run squad II and hope that by the next mission squad III is complete?
Yeah my flamer guy got covered in cultists and ended up hacking his way out.
6 melee kills XD
He also got 100% accuracy with his flamer, firing 8 times and hit 12 targets...

Librarian I: Dr What/ Ignatius Avalon (Vortex Psychic Power)
I've tried to equip people as desired: people the assault squad and Doctadeth's flamer. I figured Pertinax did too well with the HB to lose it, so Silver can have the benefit of the doubt and be given the missile launcher in the hopes he actually hits something.
I'm off for lunch and then to do other stuff, but hopefully I'll have more updates for you guys tonight.
Highlights so far... SILVER HIT SOMETHING! Pertinax missed a lot of things. Someone died. Someone is really not leading by example. Someone got set on fire. An enemy got set on fire. Someone shot a corpse. And someone has to fight off the 5 Khorne Berzerkers and the Chaos Sorcerer charging at us.
I've restarted it once too: Doctadeth set 3 teammates on fire, then Ignatius killed Isaac Hexen (and 2 zerkers) with his psychic power... You guys are awesome!

FWIW, I'm not sure Plasma Guns can actually misfire in this game (sadly), and I'm not sure if flamers can actually miss! Plasma Guns are less powerful and useful all-round than they are on the tabletop or in the fluff though. Plasma Cannons and Melta weapons are where its at.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, a predator pilot may be needed soon.
If I remember correctly I copy and pasted final liberation off of the disc and then it worked pretty much ok.
How did you get past the 16bit installer on chaos gate?
What OS are you guys using to get Chaos Gate and Final Liberation working? I couldn't get either of them running in XP, but I've not tried them out on my son's Windows 7 machine yet...
It works on 7 and XP (Kinda) but you need to run it in compatibility mode...
Just right click on it and go to properties. The compatibility and set it to the appropriate thing.
It works but it's not very stable...
One tip -- although the super-hardcore difficulty level (no saving the game except when you log off) is fun, and is indeed super-hardcore, it has at least one bug that can leave you unable to finish the mission (and thus, the game) if anything goes wrong. Won't be trying that again...
Any space for Brother Veri? Would like to be a sniper if at all possible. If it anything like my character from Xcom: Enemy Unknown(file got deleted sadly) then I will be awesome
If not then any melee based marine.
Usually I would prefer to be on the Chaos side, but beggers can't be choosers
This mission briefing and a display of the map are in this video. Basically, we were assaulting a Chaos Fortress in order to retrieve a relic. We were allowed 3 squads and a Librarian, and so brought the following:
Spoiler:
Deployed are Librarian Ignatius, Tactical Squad III, Devastator Squad and the Assault Squad:
Tactical Squad III: 1) Sergeant: thenoobbomb/ Noobimus Maximus 2) Marine: Commissar Rhodes/ Leonardius Rhodes 3) Marine: Purplefood/ Purple the Magnificent V 4) Marine: CthuluIs Spy/ Otto Von Swanzstucker III 5) Veteran Heavy/Special Weapons: Doctadeth/ Doctadeth (Flamer)

Librarian I: Dr What/ Ignatius Avalon (Vortex Psychic Power)
The fortress was a square consisting of 4 main buttresses/towers in each corner. The fortress is well barricaded (and as such, hit-rates were particularly poor this mission, *cough* Rasputin *cough*) , surrounded by a moat with a gate between the SE and SW corners. We deployed in the jungle near the SW corner, upon which were stationed two Word Bearers, with one particularly pesky bugger being armed with a Heavy Bolter.
Silver and Pertinax of the Devastator Squad (armed with a missile launcher and heavy bolter respectively) both open fire but hit the fortifications with all their shots. Leonardius Rhodes, Purple the Magnificent V and their sergeant Noobimus Maximus all open fire on the same guy, but miss also. With his typically deft shooting, Securim Fulmen hits with one of his shots, as does Otto Von Swanzstucker III. The Heavy Bolter Word Bearer then opens fire on the entrenched Ultramarines, killing Brutus (a member of the Devastator squad who, despite an impressive performance last mission, doesn't actually represent a dakkanaut - phew!). Silver then fires his missile launcher at the heavy bolter Word Bearer again, and not only HITS THE TARGET, but KILLS HIM!
At the same time, the Assault Squad, Librarian Ignatius Avalon and the flamer-wielding Doctadeth advance towards the fortresses gate. The Word Bearer in the tower with the (now dead) Heavy Bolter marine opens fire and sprays Medius Ex Decimus with bolt shells, but he comes out barely scratched. Pertinax opens fire on the Word Bearer and finally hits... Once. As does Swanzstucker (again), whilst Rasputin misses with all his shots, going so far as to hit the corpse of the guy Silver killed. The Word Bearer then seriously wounds - almost killing - Rasputin, before hiding in cover, out of sight. This delay in slaying the Word Bearers on the battlements - who had slayed Brutus - marks the beginning of the problems that would reappear throughout the mission.
6 Khorne Berzerkers, a Sorcerer and a daemonic Flesh Hound charge from the main gate, attempting to launch a counter-attack (but would first have to cross open ground, then get through the assault squad, the librarian and the nutter with the flamer). Silver fires at the Sorcerer, but misses, whilst Purple the Magnificent V hits the Flesh Hound once, Sergeant Securim Fulmen hits it twice and Doctadeth also hits it twice with his flamer: setting it alight and banishing the encroaching daemon. Medius Ex Decimus then SHOOTS AT THE GROUND! This was a deliberate attempt to set fire to it, however, in order to - alongside the fire left by Doctadeth - funnel the Khorne Berzerkers in a certain direction.
Maxima Trauma shoots an approaching Berzerker with his plasma pistol, whilst Ignatius fails to cast his psychic powers, as does the enemy sorcerer (thankfully). Pertinax then opens fire and wounds the Sorcerer, who is then killed by - hold your breath - Silver! This also marks a reverse of the previous mission: with Pertinax's efforts being finished by someone else, rather than the reverse!
Doctadeth then sets two of the approaching Berzerkers on fire, causing one to flee. It was also at this point that Doctadeth set 3 teammates on fire and Ignatius accidentally killed another, where I restarted the mission before. Isaac Hexen crushes one of the approaching Berzerkers with his powerfist, whilst Ignatius kills another, whom Doctadeth had previously torched. At this point, however, two Word Bearers teleport in and CAPTURE THE LIBRARIAN IGNATIUS, taking him to their ship in orbit!
Things are looking tricky at this point, with the Word Bearers in the fortress being either entrenched or hidden (such as the guy in the SW corner that had been firing at us from the beginning), and the Word Bearers in the SE corner able to fire upon the Assault Squad whilst remaining out of range of our firepower. These issues are compounded by your (I wasn't there, clearly it was your fault) inability to kill the Word Bearers on the barricades. As such, Sergeant Maxima Trauma attempts to lead by example and seizes the initiative; activating his jump pack and launching over the moat and barricades onto the SE tower, but subsequently fails to kill the Berzerker there, who in return seriously wounds the sergeant. Medius Ex Decimus jumps up to join his sergeant: also failing to kill the Berzerker, but setting alight and killing the Word Bearer hiding behind the barricades (the same guy that had been firing upon us all game and shot Medius (and Rasputin) earlier).
Meanwhile, outside the fortress, Purple opens fire on the (two) Berzerkers that were left from the failed Chaos counter-assault, and in an impressive display of marksmanship kills one in two shots and shoots the other seemingly in the crotch. Rhodes then opens up on the remaining Berzerker, but in a less impressive display, only manages to hit his now-dead buddy. Rasputin also opens fire, but also misses all his shots. Noobimus Maximus then shows his own sharpshooting and manages to hit the Berzerker a further three times only to receive a subsequent taunt of "can you do no better?" At which stage, Rhodes opens fire again - and misses all his shots again - before Purple hits a further three times and finishes the job; slaying the penultimate Berzerker left outside the Fortress. Pertinax then proceeds to slay the final, fleeing and on-fire (thanks Doctadeth) Berzerker.
Inside the fortress, however, Maxima Trauma is standing in a perilous position: being face-to-face with a Berzerker, on low health, and in plain view of 4 Word Bearers, one of whom is armed with a missile launcher. Medium has helped, but both remain exposed, the sergeant particularly so. In an sterling display of skill, Otto Von Swanzstucker III overcomes the barricades, and shoots and kills the Berzerker that would have otherwise surely killed Trauma, who still, however, remains exposed to the last 4 Word Bearers.
The remaining members of the assault squad then take flight, launching to the aid of their sergeant. Nu engages the Word Bearer in the SW corner, but fails to kill the traitor marine there, who Maximus Porkpious then leaps in to kill. His success is short-lived, however, as one of the remaining Word Bearers then kills Maximus Porkpious (possibly my favourite name) with a plasma grenade! Nu subsequently jump packs over to the NW corner to engage the missile launcher armed Word Bearer, but fumbles and is embarrassingly killed by the Word Bearer: who is armed only with a combat knife, unlike Nu's conciliator power sword.
Meanwhile, the Marines from the Devastator and Tactical Squad are sprinting forwards, desperate to break down the fortress' gate and reinforce the assault squads. By the time Doctadeth breaks down the gate with a trio of krak grenades, however, the action is all but over...
... Not that his men leaping to his aid wasn't enough, Sergeant Maxima Trauma then makes matters worse and panics - rendering him beyond my control - in plain view of the three remaining Word Bearers (and missile launcher), with only Medius in immediate support. Isaac Hexen (one of the three remaining Assault Marines) then bravely jumps into the fortress to try and aid his brothers, but finds his flame pistol unable to fire (I don't know why) and so resorts to bashing him with his power fist... Only for the CSM to survive! Medius Ex Decimus then leaps over to the NE corner, to face the missile launcher armed Word Bearer that had killed Nu. However, Medius also finds himself unable to slay the Word Bearer, who had now been stabbed three separate times by power swords.
Brother Isaac Hexen then gets a pair of grenades to the face. Whilst Medius finally kills the missile launcher armed Word Bearer only to be shot in the back by one of the two remaining Word Bearers. Through their injuries and bravery, however, Medius and Hexen save their sergeant from almost-certain death (who now, with particularly convenient timing it seems, rallies). Hexen proceeds to crush the Word Bearer who had grenaded him, uttering the words "The Emperor orders you to die" as he does so. Maxima Trauma then fires at the last remaining Word Bearer in the fortress, only managing to hit once, leaving him for Medius to leap over and finish off, slaying the final Word Bearer and completing the mission.
The Assault Squad is left depleted, with Porkpious and Nu entering the Chapter's annals, whilst Rasputin, Rhodes and Maxima Trauma are left fairly well shamed. To make matters worse, the Librarian has been captured by the enemy and brother Brutus killed. Still, we won, and Silver even hit stuff.
Kill Roster and Awards:
1)Silver: 1 CSM, 1 Chaos Sorcerer (Champion). Promoted to Space Marine veteran. 2)Medius Ex Decimus: 3 CSMs. Promoted to Space Marine veteran. 3)Purple the Magnificent V: 2 Khorne Berzerkers. Promoted to Space Marine veteran. 4)Isaac Hexen: 1 Word Bearer, 1 Khorne Berzerker. Promoted to Space Marine veteran. 5)Pertinax: 1 Khorne Berzerker. 6)Otto Von Swanzstucker III: 1 Khorne Berzerker. 7)Doctadeth: 1 Flesh Hound. 8)Ignatius Avalon: 1 Berzker. Captured! 9)Maximus Porkpious. 1 Death. 1 CSM. =10)Noobimus Maximus: No kills. =10)Securim Fulmen: No kills. =10)Maxima Trauma: No kills. =10)Leonardius Rhodes: No kills. =10)Rasputin: No kills. =10)Nu: 1 Death. No kills.
Personal Awards for most dakka go to: Maximus Porkpious, for a 100% hit rate in close combat (and range, but lets not count range for assault marines); and Medius for 75% in close combat (and also 100% ranged). Doctadeth technically had the most ranged hits, but a flamer doesn't really count (sorry!), but Noobimus had an impressive 66% hit rate (second most to Doctadeth), with Purple second with 53%. Fulmen once more impressed with accuracy, coming 3rd with 50%. Most improved, however, goes to Silver with a 33% accuracy rate - over double last mission's!!
The Wooden Bullet Award undeniably goes to Rasputin, who had a staggering 0% hit rate! Rhodes (who like Rasputin had an impressive ability for hitting already dead CSM's, rather than the living ones) and Swanzstucker made admirable efforts for the award too, with 20 and 21% respectively. Maxima Trauma is also a worthy nominee for the wooden bullet award, too, despite his noble intentions.

Well your faith is questionable, but there's a place in the 2nd tactical squad available. No sniping or melee-based roles are available on the front line, but techmarines get a lot of close-combat action?

Do I get shiny new weapons to hack and cleave the foe?
I'd already given you the shiniest flamer I could find, and have promoted you to Veteran?
Sheesh, you give and you give...
You mistake my excitedness for ungratefulness.
Veteran eh? Hopefully this will get me one step closer to Terminator honours...
Well you did good, I hate to say it! But yeah, from this mission onwards, Terminator honours go to anyone that kills 5+ people in one mission AFAIK, so fingers crossed...

Hey, don't apologise too much: you were my highlight of the mission!
That said, your ability as a sergeant needs work! Securim has performed admirably and is looking like a fine sharpshooter, whilst noobimus made a good - if unspectacular - start, and Davimus is looking to be a particularly handsome sergeant. But being barely able to hit anything and leading to the deaths of two of your squadmates maybe wasn't the best thing you could've done... Read up on your Codex Astartes Brother-Sergeant.
The other highlight was that in the playthrough that i restarted, the enemy sorcerer set you on fire and you panicked then too!

Had a look at Bandicam and it only records for 10mins at a time free, so I don't think it'll be worth it I'm afraid. Each game takes at least an hour - and even longer as I'll be taking notes at the same time - so I imagine many would prefer the notes anyway...

I don't think so. Silver died in Mission 2, and he got to fight in Mission 3.
However, there is a finite number of marines. Every death hurts.
Yup, this. If you die, I'll give you a new character (but in doing so you lose any experience/medals/improved skills), but as said, we have a limited pool of marines, so y'know, try to avoid dying! If people playing as HQ characters die, I can't guarantee a respawn I'm afraid though.
About to launch a new mission. It's a sub-mission on an arctic planet, where we're trying to recapture supplies from a once-Ultramarine-outpost. Brought along for the ride are:
Librarian II: KamikazeCanuck/ ?
Tactical Squad II: 1) Veteran Sergeant: Just Dave/ Justimus Davimus
2) Veteran Marine: Vortrey/ Vortigern
3) Veteran Marine: Rotgut/ Titan
4) Veteran Marine: Purplefood/ Purple the Magnificent V
5) Heavy/Special Weapons: CthuluIs Spy/ Otto Von Swanzstucker III
Assault Squad VII:
1) Sergeant: DA's Forever/ Maxima Trauma
2) Veteran Marine: Necroshea/ Isaac Hexen
3) Marine: Super Ready/ Maximus Porkpious
4) Marine: n0t_u/ Nu
5) Veteran Marine: Medium of Death/ Medius Ex Decimus
I won't finish the mission tonight however, as I've got things to do and a certain throne (it's Iron, not Golden or Porcelain) to attend to. I'll provide some teasers/highlights of what happened so far, though.
That's me done for the night. We're yet to engage the enemy, but they've been located and we're squaring up in position.
I've tried taking a screenshot, but it doesn't work for some reason. The enemy is located in ruined buildings in the opposite corner (SE) to us (NW), over a hill spotted with cover in the middle of the battlefield. In this far corner of the enemy's deployment in the ruins are two squads (10) of Word Bearers, including a Missile Launcher and Heavy Bolter. In front of them - as a screen it seems - are a squad of cultists, whilst they have another squad of cultists covering their western flank.
The Assault Squad has jumped across to the west, covered behind another hill (hopefully) out of sight of the enemy, ready to counter-charge and ambush if the enemy advances. Tactical Squad II and Librarian Canuck is holding the very centre on the hill (ready to bear the brunt), with Squad III slightly behind them and to the east (ready to support); between Tactical Squad II and the Assault Squad.
Titan and Purple (who almost got cut down by the Heavy Bolter as he ran across open ground) have flanked round to the west to take out the five cultists located there, then flank the enemy.
The plan is for Titan and Purple to take out the Cultists to the east of the enemy position, whilst the two Tactical Squads (and Librarian Canuck) weaken the enemy and bear the brunt of their response. Once the enemy has been weakened, then I plan for the Assault Squad to leap across and slaughter them in close combat.
This could all go horribly wrong of course, more updates to hopefully come tomorrow.
As we haven't engaged the enemy, there's been no real highlights so far. Although Noobimus Maximus did take cover behind Rhodes at one point...
CthuluIsSpy wrote: Sweet. A bigger gun means more things blow up, right?

Also, my full name from now on is "Otto von Swanzstucker III - Gentleman and Exploder of heretics."

OK, let me know when he starts exploding these heretics.
Otto Van Swanzstucker III (and Purplefood's name) are actually too long for the game and overlap the name box when in-game! You guys are certainly getting shortened to Otto and Purple in my reports though!

Not a problem: you're in.
Aww, I thought I was going to be techpriest :(
You're both techpriests, don't worry!
You're available from Mission 4 (the main mission 4, rather than the current sub-mission(s)) onwards - minus 1 mission - AFAIK, so I'll alternate it between you?
Otherwise, one of you can go in the 2nd tac squad if you'd rather, but tech-priest may get more action.

I'm fine with alternating, Johnscott and I can be an engineering super tag-team
Made a bit more progress with the current (sub)mission:
So far, multiple people have their first (ever) kills, our Librarian has cocked up again, someone has almost certainly been promoted to Veteran, and someone else has continued to be a terrible shot.

Automatically Appended Next Post: Just finished the mission. You did good lads, even the assault marines! I'll try and add the report later. Some more highlights:
Someone clearly sprayed themselves with grenade repellent, someone ran up to stand face-to-face with a cultist, someone smokes, an enemy was left incredibly smoky, and someone already bloodied the new powerfist we scavenged from the mission*.
I'll try to write up the report tonight.
*From which we also scavenged plasma missiles, krak missiles, power axes, power fists, plasma ammo, and a thunder hammer and storm shield - score!
Assault Squad VII: 1) Sergeant: DA's Forever/ Maxima Trauma 2) Veteran Marine: Necroshea/ Isaac Hexen 3) Marine: Super Ready/ Maximus Porkpious 4) Marine: n0t_u/ Nu 5) Veteran Marine: Medium of Death/ Medius Ex Decimus
As we closed with the enemy, the Assault Squad covered the eastern flank (with the enemy situated in the SE and us deploying in the NW), remaining out of sight through the high ground. Meanwhile, Tactical Squad II and Librarian Canuck held the centre, with Tactical Squad III in support; between 2nd squad and the assault squad. Purple the Magnificent V and Titan had flanked round the West; moving in on the squad of cultists there. With them had come Maximus Porkpious, whose jump pack had been essential in locating the enemy.
Sergeant Maxima Trauma, in cover with the assault squad, throws a smoke grenade between the Chaos forces and the bulk of the Ultramarine forces; with the enemy subsequently advancing into this smoke in their foolhardy eagerness to further betray the Emperor.
As the Chaos forces advance, Doctadeth opens fire with his ROCKET launcher, directly hitting - and very much killing - a Word Bearer, whilst Vortigen kills a cultist moving in on the assault squad. Otto von Swanzstucker III - Gentleman and Exploder of heretics opens fire with his heavy bolter... Exploding a Word Bearer who too was armed with a heavy bolter. Justimus Davimus also fires upon the enemy, hitting a Word Bearer three times, with Leonardius Rhodes finishing off the traitor.
The enemy's advance is blunted and their warriors divided in the smoke created by Maxima Trauma. Purple sprints across the open ground on the west flank, almost getting cut down by a heavy bolter as he does so; but he quickly heals himself, before he and Titan open fire on the CSM equipped with a missile launcher, hitting multiple times. Librarian Canuck then engages the wounded Word Bearer in close combat but - despite his best efforts and oversized force axe - is unable to kill the injured Word Bearer, who in return almost slays the new Librarian (just as Nu fumbled and died against a missile launcher (and merely combat blade) armed Word Bearer last mission). Kirsanth - in what too was his first mission - comes to aid of the Librarian, however, slaying the heretic.
The Ultramarines continue to push the initiative with Justimus Davimus wounding another Word Bearer, who Otto von Swanzstucker proceeds to destroy with his Heavy Bolter; with the other Tactical Squad sergeant Noobimus Maximus slaying a cultist. With the enemy reeling, Medius Ex Decimus and Isaac Hexen activate their jump packs, landing behind enemy lines: proceeding to set alight a pair of Word Bearer's, with Medius' unfortunate target being equipped with another heavy bolter; as both assault marines proceed to take cover in particularly perilous locations.
With the 5 remaining Word Bearers - two of whom were on fire - entrenched near Medius and Hexen, the Tactical Squads proceeded to finish off the enemy cultists. In a deft display of marksmanship, Vortigen guns down two cultists, narrowly missing the hatrick. Maxima Trauma - in a less than deft display of marksmanship - then slays another cultist, taking four shots of his plasma pistol to do so, whilst Purple (his flanking paying off) slays the cultist that Vortigen had previously been aiming for.
Maximus Porkpious continues to act as a lone wolf and further outflanks the enemy, advancing under a withering hail of fire - including from the Word Bearer with the heavy bolter that had just managed to stop, drop and roll after Medius set him alight. Nu then tosses a pair of frag grenades at a pair of Cultists, managing to slay one. Meanwhile the Word Bearers retaliate against the two assault marines within their ranks, with Isaac Hexen having SIX grenades thrown at him! However, Hexen - mere feet away from the enemy - comes out without a scratch! Desperate to aid his battle brothers, Noobimus Maximus then sprints forwards, showing no fear as he finishes standing face-to-face with the enemy cultist left by Nu. This cultist then proceeds to throw a pair of grenades against the nearby Doctadeth, and so, Noobimus blows the cultist up, the remains of whom bloodies his armour.
With no support immediately available, Hexen and Medius temporarily drop back; ready to regroup with their brothers and finish the enemy, with Medius taking the opportunity to obtain a powerfist from the supply crates that formed the objective of the mission. Titan and Purple continue their out-flanking advance, with the pair teaming up for Purple to nail the final cultist. Meanwhile, Librarian Canuck rubs salt into the wounds of the enemy and casts hellfire upon the already burning Word Bearer set alight by Hexen; but still the traitor somehow lives.
Victory in hand, the assault squad then leaps in to finish the (5) remaining Word Bearers. The assault squad pairs off against the enemy, two-against-two, with Porkpious and Hexen facing off against a pair of Word Bearers (including the one with the heavy bolter Medius previously set alight), whilst Trauma and Nu face off against another two. Maybe dazed from his wounds at being shot (by the same goddamn heavy bolter) as he lands, Hexen takes several swings with his power fist, but pummels the heavy bolter-armed Word Bearer into the ground. Meanwhile Porkpious only has enough AP to manage a single swing and fails to kill the other Word Bearer, with Medius (who had been acting in reserve for the squad) leaping in to crush the Word Bearer, staining his newly acquired power fist.
Maxima Trauma and Nu then team up nicely to slay the other two Chaos Space Marines, with Trauma (swinging second to Nu) finishing both: clearly demonstrating he's better with an axe than a pistol! Finally, one Word Bearer still stands, seriously on fire (this being the guy set alight by Hexen and Librarian Canuck). Doctadeth fires at him with his missile launcher, but misses, and so Purple the Magnificent V lines up the final, seriously burnt, Word Bearer and slays him with some impressive long-ranged shooting (although needs a couple of attempts to do so).
Kill Roster and Awards:
1)Otto Von Swanzstucker III: 2 CSMs, 1 Cultist 2)Maxima Trauma: 2 CSMs. Promoted to Veteran. 3)Purple the Magnificent V: 1 CSM, 2 Cultists =4)Isaac Hexen: 1 CSM =4)Medius Ex Decimus: 1 CSM =4)Doctadeth: 1 CSM =4)Leonardius Rhodes: 1 CSM =4)Kirsanth: 1 CSM =9)Vortigern: 2 Cultists. =9)Nu: 2 Cultists =9)Noobimus Maximus: 2 Cultists =12)Justimus Davimus: No kills. =12)Canuck: No kills. =12)Maximus Porkpious: No kills. =12)Titan: No kills. =12)Rasputin: No kills.
The award for most Dakka goes to... Me! For a 100% hit rate (and yes, I fired more than one shot, thanks) A close second comes Otto Von Swanzstucker for an 88% hit rate (which is particularly impressive considering the RoF on a Heavy Bolter), with Purple and Noobimus coming joint third with 66%. In close combat, brother Nu also had a 100% hit rate, with Medius second with 75%; but really the entirety of the assault squad did well under particularly dangerous circumstances.
Undoubtably, the Wooden Bullet awards goes to... Rasputin! Who - and I don't even know how - didn't fire a single shot all mission! Trauma's shooting was - once more - particularly bad, but his axe-work was well done (which that's what matters in the assault squad) and his overall performance impressive. Librarian Canuck almost won the wooden bullet award by nearly getting killed by an already wounded Word Bearer and their combat knife, but his casting of Hellfire (and Rasputin's own "performance") stopped him "winning".
Finally, my own awards (someone think of a name for these awards, eh?) go to Medius and Otto for both being particularly reliable and deadly, Purple for his sharpshooting and Hexen for surviving six grenades completely unscathed. Porkpious gets an honourable mention for his contributions, but still not having a kill.

It appears that the librarius - being in charge of the chapter's records - made a mistake, and that you were already a Veteran. This clearly has nothing to do with me and must have happened under the auspice of the Chief Librarian, Ignatius Avalon, who has now (sadly) been captured. Rest assured, the mistake has been rectified, brother, and you are now classified as a full veteran.

Further-further-furthermore, to illustrate my point, an extract from the latest report: "The Ultramarines open fire on an advancing Khorne Berzerker: terribus hits him once, Vortigen twice, Porkpious twice, Titan four times, Davimus three times, and Securim once; but the Berzerker still stands! Rasputin, bless 'im, can't even hit him once."
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, teasers from the mission so far:
Purple has a predator tank, Nu has been hit by a teammates grenade, our Librarian's done good (so far), Silver's missed something, Trauma's hit something, and Kirsanth found a plasma cannon.
Rotgut wrote:Huh Titan kinda went from hero to zero!
I kinda thought the same thing tbh! Ya had a hit percentage in the 20s! Looks to be better this mission though, and you spent most of the last flanking with purple.
Doctadeth wrote:Have I done anything this mission? or just blown up cover?
Squad III's been left on the battle barge this mission, although Terribus has been brought along to cover for purple who's in the predator.
Just Dave wrote: Maybe tonight, probably tomorrow. I've not even finished the mission yet. But you (in particular) should certainly look forward to it...
That probably means I died. And I was only two days away from retirement...
Skarwael wrote: Nice job! Pretty lucky that everyone survived (Or was it superior leadership by Dave? ). Particularly impressed by Hexen surviving SIX grenades. Conjures an imagine in my head of some comical hopping about
I'd like to think of it as one of those shots where the guy is walking away from the explosion, only it's literally right behind him and there is 6 explosions.
Don't have time to die when there's still skulls that need thumping!
Have just finished mission 4 and will try to do the report tomorrow. Some highlights/teasers:
THREE people have been awarded the Crux Terminatus (i.e. you can wear terminator armour).
One person has been given purity seals (5 missions without breaking; although only 1 person has "broke" so far *ahem* Maxima Trauma).
Someone got their first kill.
Someone didn't get their first kill.
Rasputin got picked on by the enemy (genuinely).
Our rearguard didn't guard our rear.
Someone failed to hit an enemy 3 feet away.
Someone else may have... Ummm... Possibly died. BYE!
I think that was the only mission with the Predator. Next mission the techmarine comes along for the ride, and the mission after that we get Terminators.

Deal. You're in. Take care, some of the battle brothers are particularly sensitive.

Well, 50/50 chance of me having done something
Tactical Squad III wasn't deployed, but next mission you'll be there and in with a chance of doing something (or not doing something)!
Next mission the two Tactical Squads will be deploying, alongside the Devastator Squad and Librarian Canuck. Apologies Shrike, but we'll need to bring Canuck along next mission, as with the close quarters we'll need his experience and (new) ability to cast two powers to keep the likes of Berzerkers at bay. The mission after, of course, you'll be up!

I'll give this battle report to you in chunks, I think (with this post being updated as I add to it), so far:
Mission 5 Battle Report:
The Context:
Spoiler:
We locate the device powering the shield that protects the chaos gate, and descend to the surface in a 3-part mission to breach an enemy fortress and shut down this device. For this mission, we deploy outside the fortress, with the objective being to break down the main gate (paving the way for the next mission). The enemy's fortress stretches across the entire top-line of the map; consisting of crenelations along the top, battlements within, the gate in the middle, and two sticky-out bunkers at either end (east and west): of course, there were Chaos Space Marines stationed throughout, as well as Khorne Berzerkers ready to attack. We deploy in the SE, with the following squads brought along for the mission:
Librarian II: KamikazeCanuck/ referred to as Canuck unless I'm told otherwise.
Tactical Squad II: 1) Veteran Sergeant: Just Dave/ Justimus Davimus 2) Veteran Marine: Vortrey/ Vortigern 3) Veteran Marine: Rotgut/ Titan 4) Marine: Platuan4th/ Nominus Terribus 5) Veteran Heavy/Special Weapons: CthuluIs Spy/ Otto Von Swanzstucker III
Assault Squad VII: 1) Veteran Sergeant: DA's Forever/ Maxima Trauma 2) Veteran Marine: Necroshea/ Isaac Hexen 3) Marine: Super Ready/ Maximus Porkpious 4) Marine: n0t_u/ Nu 5) Veteran Marine: Medium of Death/ Medius Ex Decimus
Predator Tank, as piloted by Purplefood/ Purple the Magnificent V
Deploying from the Thunderhawk, the Ultramarines form a gunline atop a hill, with Silver and Otto Von Swanzstucker III in the centre with their missile launchers, Herius Pertinax on the eastern flank with his Heavy Bolter and the Assault Marines spread throughout, ready to counter-assault any Berzerkers that reach us. Purple the Magnificent V's Predator is deployed slightly to the rear, with Titan and Nominus Terribus alongside him. Kirsanth, starting in the Thunderhawk with the rest of the Devastators jumps up and down in excitement at finding the supplies left there by the techmarines: opening a crate to find a Plasma Cannon (and plenty of ammo) lying within! Gleefully strolling down the ramp of the Thunderhawk with his new weapon in hand, Kirsanth's smile is soon wiped off his face as he's hit - from across the map, before he can even fire his weapon - by a KRAK MISSILE! However, the Marine - "just as planned", in his own words - survives the hit, although his armour is utterly destroyed (needs more gun?).
Purplefood is not quite so lucky, however, as - in what was actually the first shot fired of the mission - his Predator is hit in the front armour by a krak missile, which damages the main gun (Autocannon) and renders it prone to misfiring. Otto and Silver then open fire with their own missile launchers at their Chaos counterparts on the top of the fortress, but both hit the battlements.
Meanwhile, Khorne Berzerkers begin to charge towards the Ultramarine gunlines; praises to the blood god and curses to the Emperor on their lips. Titan fires first, hitting a Berzerker twice, with Vortigern hitting the enemy a further three times before Sergeant Justimus Davimus finishes the job, slaying the foul heretic. Pertinax also opens fire with his traditional Heavy Bolter but uncharacteristically misses his shots. As the Berzerkers continue their charge, the Assault Squad moves forward ready to repel the enemy. And at that moment, something almost magical happens... Maxima Trauma, (now Veteran) Sergeant of the Assault Squad, opens fire with his plasma pistol and not only manages to hit with a ranged weapon, but slays the enemy (although he still missed two of his three shots, but still)! Trauma then hits another Berzerker a further three times, before Isaac Hexen engages the warrior in close combat, crushing him with ease. Nu engages another of the enemy, but is unable to slay him and so drops back into cover before the Librarian, Canuck, slays the enemy in one hit. Medius Ex Decimus opens fire with his Purifier Hand Flamer, hitting another Berzerker twice; setting the enemy on fire and forcing him to flee.
Silver fires at the Missile-armed Word Bearer once more and misses once more, but Otto manages to hit and kill the heavily-armed traitor. Kirsanth then opens fire with his fully charged plasma cannon and obliterates another Word Bearer, who had been standing near the guy Otto just killed. The Predator - as piloted by Purple - tries to add to the barrage of heavy weapons, but his cannon misfires four times, with his two successful shots missing the target.
The remaining Ultramarines continue to force back the Berzerker charge. Terribus opens fire on a Berzerker and hits him once, Vortigen hits him twice, Porkpious (with his pistol) twice also, Titan four times, Davimus three times, and Securim Fulmen once; but the Berzerker still stands! Rasputin, bless 'im, can't even hit him once. Hexen, however, then hits and kills the crazed warrior with his flame pistol, before Canuck kills another Berzerker with his force axe. Justimus Davimus and Titan then fire upon the Berzerker Medius set on fire, both hitting him twice but both unable to kill him. Maximus Porkpious then jumps over, but overshoots his landing and so can only shoot-at and miss the enemy. Medius then also jumps over and finishes the job (he started), crushing the enemy with his powerfist.
Silver and Rasputin both continue to miss some more, but the latter manages to hit a flamer-armed Word Bearer once. Hexen then jumps over and also crushes the enemy with his own powerfist, whilst Otto kills another chaos space marine on the battlements.
With the enemies on the battlements weakened, and the counter-assault comfortably destroyed, the Ultramarines begin their advance. Vortigern, Terribus, Nu and Trauma head west, supported by Hexen, Porkpious and Medius; aiming to clear out the bunker there. Kirsanth and Pertinax then begin to move their heavy weapons east, with their sergeant Securim in support. As they reach the crest of the hill, however, they are fired upon by the enemy: Pertinax faces some bolter fire and mean words, but comes out unhurt. Things for Kirsanth, however, don't go "just as planned" as a Word Bearer hiding behind the battlements hits him with (another) Krak Missile, KILLING KIRSANTH before he knew what happened, or before he could make full use of his swanky new weapon. This may - I'm not sure however - have also been the guy that hit Kirsanth at the very beginning of the mission.
---------- UPDATED ----------
Silver and Otto then load plasma missiles, taking aim at the nasty bugger that just killed Kirsanth, both firing and catching him in their weapon's area of affect: injuring the Word Bearer. Purple too fires at the Chaos Marine, misfiring twice and catching him once; but still not killing him. In addition, Purple gets hit by two more krak missiles, which do no further damage (not that it could exactly make his predator any worse). Securim, however, gravely retrieves (or gleefully steals?) Kirsanth's Plasma Cannon and proceeds to avenge his devastator marine; killing the missile-armed Word Bearer on the battlements.
As they advance on the western flank, Nu find himself stuck in the open, so Medius and Hexen throw smoke grenades to cover him, with Hexen accidentally hitting and hurting Nu!
Meanwhile, Cultists begin to pour from the fortress. Canuck casts Hellfire, killing a Cultist and Word Bearer in the flames: but more importantly engulfs the narrow passageway, preventing the other cultists from exiting. Pertinax then opens fire: slaying two chaos space marines within the fortress, including one armed with a flamer. Silver fires another plasma missile, and not only misses the enemy, but hits Rasputin AND (his esteemed leader) Justimus Davimus; almost killing the former! Otto then fires a plasma missile at a tight-knit group of cultists, killing three and causing the others to flee, with Titan gunning down one of the escapees of the blast. Silver then tries a similar trick against a pair of cultists, killing one.
At the eastern bunker, Canuck fails to cast his psychic powers twice, but Davimus hits the Word Bearer two times whilst Pertinax only manages to hit one out of his five shots! Rasputin then also misses - this particularly lucky - Word Bearer and even is even mocked by the chaos marine in response! Canuck, however, succeeds in setting alight the traitor, before Rasputin shoots him twice in the back. Securim then hits the other chaos marine in the bunker with his plasma cannon, with Pertinax finishing him off whilst Davimus slays another cultist.
Across the map, the assault squad moves up, with Porkpious getting seriously wounded whilst Vortigen shrugs off 4 bolter shots unharmed. Medius, however, activates his jump pack, landing by the western bunker and setting alight one of the chaos space marine's inside, with Otto killing his mate with a krak missile. Trauma then jumps in and hits the flaming Word Bearer once, before Hexen finishes him off. Porkpious and Nu then move in in support. Titan then overwatches (and kills) another cultist, but Porkpious is unable to do the same.
A trio of Khorne Berzerkers appear from the South West, flanking the Ultramarine forces. Terribus, who - with the further-forwards Vortigern - had been supporting the Assault Squad on the western side, prepares to try and fight off the berzerkers by himself. But the enemy goes for a greater prize - rather than the closer Terribus - and instead charge towards the librarian, Canuck. Purple hits one of these berzerkers four times with his tank's twin-linked bolter, with Otto hitting another with a krak missile, whilst Silver kills one with his own missile. Canuck then sets alight the two remaining Berzerkers, with one unfortunate bugger being hit twice and dying. Terribus hits the remaining berzerker twice in the back, but he lives, as Pertinax hits him a further four times with his heavy bolter, before Canuck then shoots him twice with his bolt pistol: finishing the warrior he so kindly set on fire.
Medius Ex Decimus then jumps in-front of the main battlements, peeping over the wall to say hi to the chaos space marine situated a few feet away on the other side, proceeding to set the heretic on fire (although he did miss his first shot against the enemy just in front of him). Nu then shoots the Word Bearer twice with his plasma pistol, before Hexen crushes him with his powerfist. Porkpious then obliterates a cultist with his own powerfist - clearly pissed at having to wait until now for his first kill - before jumping over to the other side and killing the chaos marine Canuck had just set on fire (Porkpious would then proceed to search some crates in the fortress, finding a pair of rad grenades)!
On the eastern flank, a squad of chaos marines appears behind us: emerging from the SE (our original deployment zone). Otto overwatches a chaos space marine with his missile launcher, before Davimus finishes him off. Canuck then casts hellfire on the remaining chaos marines, catching all three and setting alight the one armed with the plasma gun, who Rasputin then shoots twice, but gets mocked by the enemy (AGAIN!), told "you fire as poorly as all who serve the Emperor" (beloved by all). Otto and Silver then both miss easy shots with their missile launchers, before Securim hits a chaos marine who Pertinax finishes off. Nu shoots another chaos marine, before he and Otto both get hit by grenades, but come out OK. Terribus then runs after the enemy, out of range but eager to get his first kill. Justimus Davimus then kills another chaos marine and hits the flaming plasmagun dude once, who Purple then opens fire upon and misses A LOT. Otto also misses the marine with the plasma gun, who Rasputin then kills - slaying the blighter who had mocked his aim.
Fulfilling the mission objective - and earning the Imperial Laurel - Trauma blows down the fortresses gate with a meltabomb. He then plasma grenades the two Chaos Marines waiting behind it, with Vortigen finishing one, and Titan the other.
Back with the main force, however, another squad of chaos space marines appears behind us; somehow getting past Purple - who was SUPPOSED to be our rearguard - unnoticed. To make matters worse, these new chaos marines ambush and KILL RASPUTIN! Davimus and Otto fail to avenge their battle brother, both missing easy shots, before Silver and Securim both hit with their heavy weapons, whilst Davimus and Terribus both hit once. Trauma and Nu - the only members of the assault squad with any fuel left - then jump over to help their brothers, with Trauma slaying one of the heretics whilst Nu throws (rather than gets hit by this time) a smoke grenade to cover the Ultramarines.
Pertinax is wounded by the enemy, whilst Trauma gets hit - but unhurt - by a grenade, with Purple also opening fire and missing a lot (again). Nu then jumps in with the last of his fuel and guts one of the traitors, whilst Terribus tries and fails to kill the last enemy, who Trauma then jumps over and kills.

Man of the Match award goes to Canuck: for getting the most overall kills, consistently besting 'zerkers in combat, and setting a whole lot of enemies on fire; proving the deadliness of librarians. However, the vast majority of you were reliably deadly and/or accurate throughout the mission - good job guys!. Trauma gets a honourable mention, for coming a long way since his (fairly shocking, to be fair) start: slaying 3 enemies, a 77% hit rate in combat, leading his squad well and helping out all over the map. Most Dakka award goes to Otto, for an impressive 81% hit-rate! Vortigern and Titan were second and third, with 58 and 57%, respectively. Technically, Kirsanth had a 100% hit (and kill) rate, but as he only fired one shot, I'm discounting it... Medius had a 100% hit rate at range and in close combat (although he had a flamer for the former, and only made two attacks for the latter), so Hexen wins the close-combat award with a staggering 90% hit rate in close combat, with 5-times as many attacks! The Wooden Bullet award goes to Silver, for three reasons: 1) for being consistently shown-up by his comrade, Otto (who he'd been sitting beside), throughout the mission, 2) for hitting his commanding officer and wounding Rasputin, 3) for seeming to want wooden bullets! Rasputin and Purple are honourable mentions, however. The former for the lowest hit rate, being mocked by the enemy, and dying; and the latter for failing to get a single kill despite having the Predator.
