Nevelon wrote: Have you thought about doing some sort of OSL or modeling some lighting/fire coming off it it? Something to say "I’m not just holding this at an awkward angle, I just spent a warp charge, and you are going to die"
Well, you've done it again my friend, I'm on it now. Will do some osl as I'm not a big fan of muzzle flash/fire etc...
Well, I'll be honest. I've hit a wall. Done as much as I can on the bike and have applied the varnish which needs a good few hours to dry. Finished the raptor and ravens other than transfers and weathering and am just not in the mood fir the bases.
On that note I'm gonna go to my FLGS and have a game and buy a few bits. Fancy them new craters for some scenic bases and nay get a knight. Not sure yet. I'll post a photo of the raptor later.
So I got some of the quake craters and they are pretty cool. May see one on my thunderhawk stand. Picked up dome plague bearers and also got confirmation of my spartan assault tank from FW so with all that I decided not to buy a knight.
Will try and get the base blue on the Libby's arms tonight and the washes now that the varnish is dry. Should be able to finish the bikes too.
Not looking forward to highlighting the chaplain though as I've never done black before. Do I use a dark grey and then a lighter one for extreme highlights?
Had a complete re think of the raptor base this afternoon so will try and work something out with that.
Played ultra marines and grey knights this afternoon. Good win against the boys in blue but got my butt handed to me by the knights. (They literally get to re roll everything)
Big night tomorrow though as it's scars vs scars. The guy I'm playing has a lot of grav and a couple of thunderfire cannons plus a few drop pods. We've been given a 500 (anything goes) increase so no idea what he'll bring. Could be more bikes and pods or even a macro cannon???
For blacks I use black + fortress grey (1:1) for an edge highlight. Then black : fortress grey (1:2) for an extreme highlight on prominent areas. It looks alright to me
Fortress grey is a VGC paint, not sure what the current equivalent is.
Scars on Scars...? Sounds... interesting Considering you can pretty much guess what he has, will you counter it? If you aren't locked into a certain list, i'd suggest meching up
Got to stay within the realms of my own fluff (personal rule) so have decide what to go with. Will reveal tomorrow (in case he's reading this haha) but the fire raptor is obvious.
Thanks fir the tip on the grey. I use Vallejo air plus some GW paint so will probs go with dark sea grey first.
So I played the Scars v Scars last night......what a game....
For his extra 500 points he brought an inquisitor with 3 servo skulls and an extra 3 (yes 3) Thunderfire Cannons. That meant in total he had 2 las dev squads, 5 TFC;s, 3 MM plus melta units and 2 grav units with Khan as warlord.Plus 3 DP's with 2 sterngaurd units.
For my extra 500 I took the fire raptor and 3 libby's on bikes (one at lvl2). I got first turn but couldn't scout forward as the skull were stopping me. Even my scouts had to sit back in my DZ. Took FB and used 4 Physic Shrieks that caused a few wounds. His turn 1 I couldn't make an armour or jink to save my life. He took all 4 libby's and most of my melta. All 4 flyer of mine came on in turn 2 but he was on form for his saving throws and I could'nt manage to hit and run from some combats so had less targets available. Slowly started picking away at the TFC's and in turn four cleared the table.
Really enjoyable game and after it he went on to play an Eldar list that was an even more epic game. Came down to needing to kill his wraithseer and avatar or draw as he would claim line breaker. The wraithseer lived......
On a more P&M note I intend to finish the libby's and Chaplain this week and then am going to focus some love on the Thunderhawk. That thing needs to be done as it's too much money sat there at the moment.
Ah, dice. Those fickle, temperamental little chunks of plastic. Sounds like a fun day out though. You have to be careful with those White Scars players, they are a shifty lot.
As always, looking forward to seeing what you end up painting.
You could try setting limits, like only buy something new once you check something off your to-do list. But that’s not nearly as much fun.
I was going to comment that you should keep the piles even between your scars and chaos, but then remembered the amount of air power the loyalists have. Should be fine.
One of my friends impulse bought a pair himself, so I need to start thinking about my anti-knight tactics. I’m thinking some drop melta and a tri-las pred. Make him coose what side to put the shield, and then light him up. More and more of my TAC lists is heading towards anti tank.
Definatley changing to AT in the game at the moment. I have enough melta and las to deal with most things but 4 Knights is a challenge.
I thought about doing half and half as a hobby but each time I try I get into the wring half. I can see light at the end of the White Scar tunnel so am gonnna focus more on that but just tickle along with some building of chaos.
How balanced are your forces? Is your sig still accurate with 10k vs. 6.5k? That’s a big point discrepancy, but points aren’t everything. I know your Scars are a lean, mean, competitive machine, backed with some serious air power. I don’t know what percent of your nurgle army would be considered “efficient” or just “fun"
You could look at air force pictures for ideas, but IIRC most bombs look the same. A basic streamlined lozenge shape, maybe fins on the back. Cluster bombs are basically shells that hold a bunch of smaller bomblets.
I’m not sure how orky the ones on their bomber are, might be worth a look. There are bombs and fuel tanks on FW’s site, no idea on their scale. Or try to find a modern bomber kit at the right scale. Another option would be to search for a found object that’s close. Maby a fishing lure/bobber?
At this point I’m just tossing out ideas hoping one sticks. Good luck.
So, a quick WIP of the Thunderhawk base so far. The building has a lot of gaps to fill and much much more debris to add.
I am painting the downed talon in White Scar colours to represent the apoc formation that lets TH's pass off hits to talons.
From a scenario point of view I have got am imperial guard heavy weapons set so will have some traitor guard on top level having shot down the talon whilst the TH flies over dropping a cluster bomb. There will be other traitor guard and cultists running out of the building away from the impending doom of the bomb.
I have sent the wing/engine crashing through the building towards the where the gunners are gonna be but not sure if this will look right. (Needs some modelling fir damage and cables etc.
I am not fully set with this idea and will happily listen to any suggestions. The engine and talon are not glued into place yet as they will be painted separately.
Thoughts please people
Automatically Appended Next Post: Thanks for the tip on the bomb btw Nev. Will probs make one out of GS to fit the scale of the TH.
Cheers bud, I've just had to order a longer Perspex today as the other one is too shirt now that I've built the base up. I'm sure I'll figure out something else to use it on though
I like the spinning engine smashing into the building. It is a very dynamic image. The one problem I can see is capturing such a brief snapshot is a static miniature. This is not a post-crash diorama. This is the moment that the engine is passing though the wall. Some ideas to help bring it to life:
Smoke trailing from the engine. This will help define how it is moving. You can see where it is at, but by trailing stuff, you show where it’s been, and by extension where it is going. It is obviously not hitting straight on, but corkscrewing in. A twisted line of exhaust will show that.
Shrapnel. The hole in the ruins that the engine is passing though was not there a second ago. It is being made as we watch. There should be bricks and chunks of wall airborne. Dust, smoke, and cultists flying around would not be out of place. You could string bricks together to suspend them, or use twisted bits of rebar, bent back but still attached.
Think of the slow-mo shots in an action or disaster movies.
McManiak wrote: Quick wip pic of thunderhawk base. Done tge detail on building now. Still got to add the cultists etc but getting there now.
Also a huge jigsaw pile of bits that equals 4 stormtalons. Gonna tidy build and prime this afternoon.
What is everyone else doing this easter weekend??
Nice WIP shot. This is going to be epic when you are done. The clean white is a little jarring on the crashed flyer, but I assume some weathering will take place at some point,
I can’t believe you mixed up 4 kits into one big pile. Madness! For vehicles I normally cut, clean, dry-fit, and then glue each step before removing the next stage from the sprue. So seeing a big jumble of parts boggles my mind.
My Easter was very low-key. We just got back from a half week vacation over in Boston. Hope you and yours had a nice one.
Thanks, The talon will be given lots of damage and weathring plus covered in debris.
As for the pile, I am doing the 4 because I am painting in sectionss as I build so this way I can prime and whiten them all tigether. They are all cleaned and assembled to relevant stages with magnets applied and ready for priming tonight.
It means I get through the project quicker this way too (although there are a lot of bikes still to do.) And was a nice break from tge th base.
Only just noticed your comment sorry paradigm. I wish I could get back into playing my guitars but with a little one in the house I had to take up a quieter hobby. She's 20 months now tho and like 'daddy's guitars' so who knows maybe I can start rocking out again.
So that's 4 stormtalons built to painting level, primed and brought to white. Will alow 24 hours to dry then do the reds and metalics.
Going to take the opportunity to head down to my lgs and get a game in.
Lots of games this week to. Lgs today, some practice games of my 1500pts tomorrow in club and then a few more in Friday at warhammer world with my cousin.
Gonna try my tourney list out and also a tourney list with Thunderhawk.
Th, kor sarro, libby on bike with shield eternal, 2 bike squads with meltas combi melta and attack bike with multi melta comes in just under 1500. Need khan to make bikes troops and libby is a 3++ with 2 powers on telepathy. All relies on th turning up on turn 2 though...
I'm looking to go to Throne of Skulls myself later in the year, but I can't find anywhere in the event pack that it says you can use Escalation and Stronghold books?
Interesting list, it relies on the TH to do a lot of the heavy lifting, but it could work, especially if the melta-bikes can focus on and take out the enemy AA early on.
Yeah if the hawk don't come on then I'm pretty screwed but I have got two heavy hitting units and never underestimate a libby who moves 12 after scouting and has psychic shriek. Generally within range on turn 1 and can cause enough wounds to force a break test and potential first blood. (Killed 7 tac marines today before anything else did a thing).
As for tourney rules they were introduced into the rule packs in January and the warriors code.
More work done on my talons today. Got all the weapons painted, metals done and pilots assembled and painted. Got to varnish and wash it all plus do pannel lines then they are finished.
Got a hell of a result from FW over the thunderhawk too so I can now carry on with that. May even have it ready for tourney although I don't think I'll use it in this one.
Finally, I have also finished the Fire Raptor base too. May have had some inspiration from Zambros cammo...
Love the base. It is a little front heavy though. That big spot in the back is just begging for something. Ammo crate, vox caster, open manhole cover with a genestealer emerging, something… Although with the flyer actually mounted, you might not need it. I’m not sure how they are weighted visually compared to their mounting point. If they are more back heavy, you would want a more forward base to balance.
Zambro wrote: Nev, whilst I see what your saying, I think it looks great. Sure, adding something wont take anything away from the look, but imo it's great as is.
A lot of my comments are nit-picking when it come to things like this.
Is it cool as is? Yes. That base is better then almost everything I see at my FLGS, and a lot of the things I see online. Defiantly better then anything I do personally.
Would there be things that could be done to make it better? Often this is the case. What I see here is not anything wrong with what was done, but the potential to go a little bit further. In this case I see an untaped potential on the back of the base.
One of the problems with text as a communication medium is the lack of tone. I probably should have used an exclamation point or a for the “Love the base” part of my reply. Because I do. The rest is just minor quibbles and tossing ideas out there to see if any spark an idea.
Nev, your quite right sbout the balance. The raptor is very back heavy as a model so when put together looks ok. I did toy with putting some crates there but when I dry fitted it originally there was more of a sense of movement by only having it front loaded.
Appreciate the comments as always guys. Talons should be finished for next photo and then dare I say the .......thunderhawk...... (well, wips at least)
Just seen your other post too. I know what you mean about tone in text but I always take your words as positive. You have, and will hopefully continue to, spark many ideas for me.
So after another trip to warhammer world yesterday to have a game with my cousin I picked up a few more FW bits with the vouchers I got for my thunderhawk.
The list is all nurgle so is in my other thread but I did get to use my fire raptor on its new base and I have to agree with Nev, it needs something on the back. Here is a pic of it on the base as is.
Gonna go with some missiles in a crate I think.
Just had a thought. One thing that often adorns my otherwise blank flying base is a die showing how many HP have been blown off. That space in the back would be a perfect place to set something to keep track. Have you thought about making custom HP markers? You risk making the base too cluttered if you need to cram 3-4 things back there (how many HP does it have anyway?) Hindsight says those guardsmen would have made good candidates for HP tokens. Some sort of spinner?
I have washed the talons and waiting for them to dry so I can finish them off. Also done the 4 bases for them.
Whilst waiting for them to dry I received the rhinos I ordered in the post so have built them ready for prime. The scheme is quite simple on them so I figure I can do them all at once.
And also delivered was my battlefoam order which means my whole task force has its own foam now except the thunderhawk which will be in a well protected box. The foam and case for the TH is over £200 so I figured against this.
Quick pic of the rhinos because it made me laugh when I saw them stacked there lokking like they where in the manafacturum...
Will post pics of the talons tonight/tomorrow and I'll do a full company shot when the bars arrive next week for the talons...
They were just sprues (£14 each on ebay) so box wasn't too bad. Ive got scouts, devs and assault marinesfor foot troops but a company has 8 rhinos so had to get them. More targets in apoc anyway hahahaha
If you take the assault marines on foot, and everything in half squads, you could use all of them.
You did magnetize all of those assault marines, right? If not, you’re going to have to paint up another 30 of them with normal backpacks.
For me, a brush painter, that many vehicles is a daunting task. With an airbrush, and the rhino’s svelte, sleek, box-like construction, that’s what, a weekend's work? Exaggerating, obviously, but having the right tool for the job is a nice thing.
And if you are going to stack them up that high to block LOS to titans in apoc games, be sure to give them dozer blades, so they can make the dangerous terrain tests to drive up on the lower ones. Fun pic.

Hahaha I can just see it now....
Anything goes in apoc so im ok for them without having to combat everything.
The airbrush definitely makes these easier and I dont think your eexaggerating mate. I expect to have them done by the end of the bank holdiay...

Bank holiday? <checks calendar> Today is Derby day, but unless you’ve spent time in Louisville Kentucky or are into horse racing, that’s not a big one. Monday is Cinco de Mayo, but that’s just an excuse to eat tacos for anyone not in mexico/ the southwest. Granted, I celebrate both, but I spent over a decade in KY, and will jump on any excuse to cook something different then the norm. But we’re not talking bank closing things for most of the world. Your banks just decide they want the day off to enjoy the spring weather? If so, that’s kinda awesome.
Oh well. Thanks for the reminder that I need to pour myself a bourbon this evening. I used to go full Mint Juleps, but those things are horrid.
Haha, yeah we have "May Day" First Monday in may. Plus another bank holiday on the last monday if may. Tbf tgere are 8 of these days a year. All the banks and mist business' other than retail close
Bank holidays are great, schools / business shuts down for the day and we get a lazy long weekend.
I dont know what the reasons for these bank holidays are. What every they are, I approve I think we gained a bank holiday when William and Kate got married(?).
Tanks are white and drying overnight. I had every intention of finishing the talons but have got wrapped up in the snooker too much. It's delayed me a lot this week tbh...
I prefer being on the dark side so I am a 5th Lord
Happy Cinqo de Mayo.... The speed you put these models out and the sheer quality of the build & paint jobs.... You are either properly mad or a genius!
I am struggling to get my terminators done and you are pinging out top drawer models all over the place!
I like putting HP markers on th base of your Fire Raptor as it is characteful and fun, can't wait to see what you come up with.
Cheers Dantay for the comments. They are onky tabletop quality but that is enough for me. I get surges of hobby time. I promise I am no genius though so definitely must be mad....
Reds done and tracks primed. Got to do the arrows for tac livery and then its time to varnish and wash. These may actually be done tonight! Although I think the Mrs has plans for me this afternoon. Yesterday saw nothing get done at all as the women were at a baby shower and the guys, well beer and footy, obviously...
Definately got some good progress going on those Rhinos...
Have fun doing the tracks I had to prime and paint some LR tracks yesturday. It was only for 2 LRs, but it was aweful! I hate doing tracks...
I’d worry that the spots where the tracks attach to the sprue would be to much touch up/clean up work for doing that way. I just assemble them before priming myself. Painting them it time consuming, but not hard. I just do them black with a silver drybrush.
I leave the tracks off the tank too, but there is just so much track... IG tank tracks go all around the vehicle, so you end up doing a lot more than a SM vehicle.
I had a relatively productive weekend. Got the Vulture done

Tracks are easy. leave them off the sprue and undercoat them black. works for any tank.
Kor Sarro
Lvl 2 libby with sheild eternal
3 squads of bikers with an attack bike each, meltas and combi melta
1 bike squad with flamers and combi flamer and mb's
Attack bike unit of 3 with MM Vindicator with dozer blade
Triple las pred
Fire raptor with quad heavy bolters
1497pts
I considered dropping the flamer unit for an ADL with comms relay to help the fire raptor come in but then remembered that my task force doesn't have one and decided to stick to the unit. They come on in outflank and either burn up some units or boost onto an objective.
Looks like a solid list. I’m not sold on the combi meltas on the sergeants though. How many melta shots do you generally need to pump into something? If you are getting two regular and one multi from the AB do you need the 4th from the sarge? And I might have geared one of them with grav/plas, just for variety. You should do fine with it.
Yeah I was unsure about combi melta 1st time round but the amount of shots that miss they gave been a god send. I won't take grav as it ain't in the old fluff snd I have had bad experiences with plasma so only take it on a titan that can't get hot haha. It's really all about the Alpha strike. If I go first then after scouting I can eliminate a lot of AV stuff and take enough wounds off MC's thst my opponent has to think twice before charging. I've killed a few dreads to overwatch too...
Massive game for me tonight. It's the final of our Champions league and tonights game sees me playing an Eldar list in second place. I'm 2 points ahead so need a win or draw. He has to win. The tension and good banter leading up to thus match has been epic. It may come diwn to whoever goes first tho, as if I get it then I can seriously cripple him. My air force may also be a deciding factor as if a raven and 2 talons come on together they will be leathal.
It will be fun either way and I know Ant (my opponent) reads this blog and will agree that there will only ever be ONE first club champion hahaha
I got first turn and took out his wave serpent for first blood. I also managed to take a wound off the Avatar with my pred and a few wraith gaurd died to melta. He hit back hard on his turn and I 'fortunately' failed 2 break tests so he couldn't make charge range on me.
I then made a mistake in charging the libby into the dying wraithknight only to realise that he couldnt hurt him with the force sword.
None of my flyers came on and the raven and 1 talon didn't arrive until turn 4.
The avatar died to scouts, the wraithknight died to scouts and then the heroic little ran to contest an objective to hold the game until turn 7.
No matter what I did I couldn't roll to hit or wound with my flyers and lost them all to 1 crimson hunter that I couldn't deal with.
I only had one wound left to deal on his warlord but couldn't get it and when all was said and done I was defeated 3-1 he had slay the warlord, line breaker and an objective whilst I had only first blood. I had 1 yes 1 scout left contesting the other objective. If that unit of jetbikes had failed their brek test then I would have had an objective and he would have lost line breaker to make it 2-2.
I obviously need to pray and make more sacrifices to the dice gods.....
Absolutely brilliant game and by the end we had quite a crowd watching. Other than the stupid/brave libby I never made any mistakes that I particularly regret but it was just down to bad rolls. Great game and I now have the title of 'brave Sir Robin' (monty pythons holy grail) for tje ampunt of times my bikes ran away.
Only took a few pics as was too engrossed sorry...
Yeah, it was random terrain and table choice. I get a 4+ jink anywayvso it rather suited me tbh. Didn't want him getting too much cover haha, not that it matterednin the end tho.
So, you have 3 squads of 3 bikes + 1 attack bike. Is that legal?
5 models need to be used to make the bike squads troops. I see where you are coming from, there are 5 marines, but it's still only 4 models. I just dug around the codex, and the old codex for an answer and didn't turn anything up. Do you know for definate?

Looking at the picture, is there a squad missing? It looks like there are 3 legal 5 man bikes squads, plus the extras, but the list has 4.
I see where you are coming from but the squad only has to be 3 bikes. You get a serg and 2 bikers for 63pts. As per codex the attack bike classes as 2 bikes meaning a 10 man unit breaks down to 5 and 4 model squads.
There are 3, 4 model melta squads and a 3 model flamer squad.
Nobody has questioned it when submitted to previous tournament so must be ok?
I cant comment on other people not picking it up, I've only ever run 4 bikes + attack bike as minimum.
And I did see in the combat squad rules that bike squads are full strength at 8 bikes + attack bike and split to 5 bikes and 3 bikes + attack bike. But it you read it thoroughly, it doesn't explicitly state that attack bikes count as two bikes. It just says this is what you do in this situation. If nobody has a problem with it, then by all means run with it. But for my piece of mind, i'm going to make a post over in YMTC to see what the general consensus is. (sorry for potentially ruining your list... )

No worties mate, I've ran them a few times and GWTO's have been fine so should be fine this time too. I look at it as 5 models because there are 5 models of marines there. The sidcar is a seperate model that attaches to the bike. That's why in a squadcthey talk about marines, ie 5 man or 10 man.
The flamer unit is obviously not a troop unit but the melta is.
I'd check with the TO before you go. They may have been ignorant of the rules, or there was no strong differing opinion. I'd argue its an illegal list, if that's how they rule, you're gunna have a bad time. Even if by the "5 Marine" logic, I'd say there are only 4 bikes (or 4 1/2), not making it scoring.
Zambro wrote: Ahh, I feel a little bad cause I've pointed out a floor in your list a week before the tournament...
Don't feel bad. I'm emailing the TO to check. Have checked faq's and nothing there. It really does come down to interpretation. The combat squad bit is where it causes ambiguity.
I will take the list with me plus another (I won't be as happy with it tho) and see what is said. It doesn't benefut me massively and tbf I have paid the points and more for 2 extra bikes so have plenty of argument on both sides. Also it won't matter in 2 weeks as we will be arguing over 7th ambiguity
On a different note here are the rhinos ready for wash. Still need to tidy some of the red up too.
Oh, wow. The uniformity on those rhinos is awesome.
Roll on 7th... lol.
I've not read any of the rumors (too long a thread to dig the relevant info out), but i've picked up on a few things. Mainly the 'magic phase'. I find myself wanting Psykers, but the libby is a little lack luster. Maybe this new phase will make it more interesting.
I'm also hopeful for a bump for assault. I'd definately look into making that more of a viable tactic for my Scars.
I know you normaly roll out on bikes, but in theory the rhinos should belong either to a squad, or part of the generic chapter motor pool. It might just be my codex complient battle company showing, but I see eight rhinos with a tactical arrow. With the standard 6/2/2 squad split for tac/dev/assault, I'd expect to see diferent makrings. Or if loaners from the armory, no squad marks.
Just a random heraldic nit-pic, not to detract from the paintjob you did.
Lvl 2 libbys are the way forward. Not sure how they'll stack in 7th but I love mine in 6th. If assault gets good then I'll maybe field my AM's. Plus if you can assault from deepstrike they will be worthy of a place for sure...
Just seen your post Nev. Didn't know that about rhinos. May clear off some of the markings. Or all of them actually? I heed to lookup more info.
How do you find lvl 2 libbys? I'm interested in your perspective. Powers, roles, equipment? IMO, they look mediocre at best on paper. Never got around to trying them out.
You dont need to clear off all the markings. If you're going to go down the correct herraldry route, then 6 of them are fine with arrows. You just need assault squad markings and devastator markings. If you have the old Codex, page 125/125 has a nice line up of a whole battle company. You can see the devastator unit's rhino markings (it's a single stripe).
Yeah, was looking at that last night. I have 2 dev squads so may alter it for them
I take my libby on a bike and also give him the the shield eternal so he gets a 3++ save, adamantium will and eternal warrior.
I run him with telepathy and will generally use phycic shriek. If I scout and then move 12, I am normally in range of either a low ld unit to cause break or strip a few wounds off a MC or hq.
Some of the other powers are ok, particularly puppet master and hallucination. Pm is great if your opponent has something with a lot of firepower like a knight or riptide and hallucination is amazing (2warp points) if you roll anything other than a 1 or 2. I once had a farsight bomb from 'the 8' who couldn't shoot or strike blows in combat. I tore them to bits.
If I only use 1 power then I can still have my force sword active in CC and although needing 6's with MC's its funny when one dies. The 3++ helps as he is only initiative 4.
Nice Rhinos, I'm still amazed at how fast and clean you get your white.
Since we're discussing libbies, I have to say my favourite trick for a Lvl-2 is when putting him in a drop pod. As you can't use a blessing or malediction from reserve, as it happens 'at the start of the turn', having Psychic Shriek or Fiery Breath to unleash on the drop is always nice. The short range is mitigated by the delivery mechanism.
Cheers para. Yeah I in effect get to be 36 inches across the board so have the same result as drop pod. It really messes people up. Hahaha. Particularly when you roll a nice high 14-18 against a HQ or MC
Hey, Maniak, I thought I'd kill some time reading the first post in the new 7th ed. rumor thread. It says that Jink is no longer always 'on'. You have to declair it at the start of movement and it limits you to snap shots for the duration of the phase. Albeit it is only a rumor, if this is true, it's going to have a MASSIVE effect on our armies...
I was a little upset when I read it :(

I’m not sure of the source of that rumor. IIRC it’s not from one of the highly reliable sources. Add a lot of salt.
Things will change with 7th, but let’s not worry much until we have the book in our hands. No need to borrow trouble.
I'm definately holding out with this rumor. It is a rumor, after all. But usually, as we get closer to the release date, rumors start to become more accurate.
Have you seen that new summon daemons psychic stuff? Sounds like a laugh for a daemon player, but everyone being able to use it..? Not too sure on that
Yeah, read about drmon stuff. Seen nect weeks WD and it's all in there. There are 2 demonology powers and I reckon onoy certain people will be able to take them same as eldar with fate and battle.
As for the jink, I highly doubt it. I had heard that it will be 'on' from the begining of the game sonit flasses deployment as moving.....
Only 2 weeks to wait. Ordering mine on Sat morning and looking forward to a change.
Sooooo, annoying as it is GW have said they wont accept my list even tho they understand that it is diwn to interpretation of yhe combat squad AND they have allowed it before.
So I have had yo re write the list (fortunately thanks to this blog I have enough stuff painted)
Zambro, dont feel bad mate, I iwould not want to win be cheating and it would have been worse if someone else pointed it out at the touney and I couldn't have changed it.
Check through this guys and make sure I've not missed anything....
Kor Sarro on moondrakken
Lvl 2 Libby on bike with sheild eternal
Fire Raptor
Tri Las Pred
Vinicator with dozer blade
2 x 3 Attack bike units with MM 2 x 5 MODEL bike units with 2 meltas
1 x 5 MODEL bike units with flamers and combi flamer
1500 on the button.....
I will be hopefully finishimg the hull point marker tonight so will try and get a pic up.
Seems legitimate to me, you've checked the 2 troops minimum and have no illegal units.
From a gameplay standpoint, I imagine it will be mostly the same as before, except with the MM being more concentrated (maybe allowing you to make better use of the longer range).
The list looks fine to me. Not sure on the points for a Fire Raptor, so I cant add the points up to double check for you.
I looks very similar to your last list, and I think It will work just as well, imo.
You could even go as far as changing one of the MM attack bike units to another melta bike unit for extra troops.

For demons it makes no sense.. Why would a demon sacrifice itself to summon another demon? The reason Mortal psykers do it is because they're sacrificing their soul to summon it, a demon is just a being of energy. Demons are also selfish and would not sacrifice themselves to summon other demons. Also, since when did demons summon other demons anyway? Demons come out of warp portals rent by Mortal psykers, not from themselves.

And the award for using the word demon most in one paragraph goes to ........ Brother of bone
Thanks Z, raptor is 220 so all adds up. With the extra attack bike unit I can keep away from combat with the range and use the melta units for vehicle

I'd like to uhh.. Thank Zambo, umm... My family, I love you mum! And most of all, the Big G.
Here's a pic of the finished raptor base then guys. I am adding another missile tonight as I only had 3 and one of the guys at my ckub is kindly donating one.
The Fire Raptor has 4 hull points so I have magnetised the missiles so I can remove one each time I lose a point (hopefully they will all stay all weekend)
I also just realised that im 2 bikes short for my list so am now getting 2 done asap. Fortunately they are already up to white so not much more to do.
Gonna be a late one finishing them after the club tonight as I'm setting off after breakfast tomorrow...
Looks good. You still have some flat space on the base if you want to put another marker on it (for locked velocity, hovering, etc) The missiles tie in very well with the guardsmen.
Neat basing idea, doesn't look out of place and is subtle yet effective. Good luck with the tourney.
You shouldn't need a 4th missile, once 4 HP are gone it's dead (unless the Raptor has 5HP, which would be pretty mental for a flier with that firepower).

I think it's to represent that it has 4 HP instead of having 3 missiles and going 'well it's dead now'
Great Blog, man! Fantastic, uniform and well-painted army, too--it's awesome how you have just buckled down and gotten it done. I also love the Fire Raptor--I think it's an awesome model, and although I am too intimidated to get one, it was great to see how much time and effort you put into the assembly, base coating, and then the final product.
So, I'm impressed--awesome stuff, and thanks for sharing the whole journey. It also looks like you will have some cool options for an "Unbound" list here in the next little while...
Vincent sized the initiative and after failing to charge my objective holding vindicator twice (purge the Alien) i went on to take him in turn 7.
Second was against Chris with his dark eldar/eldar. He also siezed against me and with a tantulas, avatar, wraithknight and bucket of poison killed 70% of my army in his first turn. You can imagine that I lost that one.
3rd game was against a 3 riptide tau army with fortress of redemption. I got first turn and caused carnage breaking buildings and devifish everywhere. It took a while to whittle the riptides down but I got there eventually. Absolute blast of a game tho and lots of fun.
So 2-1 up for the day and about to hit the sack so will update tomorrow.
Aye, that sounds like it was a bloodbath, but then, poison vs bikes is a hard counter, given they invalidate the bonus toughness you pay for. Out of interest, how similar was the other Scars list to yours.
The third game sounds really interesting, and it's good to see the Astartes can still hold up against Triptide Tau.
Maybe you should cast Warp Speed on yourself. Your initiative seems a little low... What are the chances of being seized against, two games in a row?
I'm with Para on the first game; what was his list like? I've never played Scars vs. Scars. Personally, I think it would be a little droll. Were his scars white? Of the (3) Scars armies I've seen in person, only mine are white xD
I imagine having turn 1 stolen from you in game 2 was disastrous. DE are a tough counter to bikes, but with turn 1 you should have been able to get the jump on him and been able to whittle down some stuff before he came at you.
I've never played trip-tide, but kudos to you for dealing with it! Two competent tournament armies make for an awesome game, and it sounds like you handled it well.
Good luck with today's fun and games.
For the Khan and the Emperor!
So day 2 saw 2 wins for me. I played a draigo grey knight list and a fluffy eldar list with no wraiths.....
4 wins and a loss with some good people and a few new friends is great. I came 3rd out of 17 space marine players by 2 points (they tied for 1st) so good weekend all round.
Vincents Scars where white but more muted than mine. He paints the pallid wych flesh and highlights white. They were really nice. He ran a chapter master on bike with grav unit and mm bikes plus a melta and mm unit on bikes. Razorback with command squad and lvl 2 libby on foot. Tac squad with plasma and missile on foot and a storm talon and scouts with cloaks. Lovely army, painted extremely well.
The eldar list today were the same colour as the droids in episodes 1-3 of Starwars so when my Fire raptor came on tbat looks like a clone trooper ship I had to take the photo...
TauForTheWin(ish) wrote: I recognise that white scars list from Throne of Skulls. It kicked my butt in round three :-D
Haha, brilliant Andy. Best game......"so I'm gonna shoot this building. Oh, I got a penatrating hit, what happens now?" "Not sure but im going for a piss whilst you check"
As for games, im having an apoc game in June and am going to play with my Dark Eldar and Eldar for a few weeks as a change. Still going to get the Scars finished but also going to put some focus on my Nurgle guys.
Chapter master on bike with power lance and shield eternal.
Librarian lvl 2 on foot.
Command squad with champion, banner, 3 plasma guns and a razorback with twin-linked assault cannon.
Bike squad (4 bikes and an attack bike) 2 grav guns and AB multi-melta
Bike squad (4 bikes and an attack bike) 2 meltaguns and AB multi-melta
tactical squad with plasma gun and rocket launcher with flakk
scout squad with sniper rifles and heavy bolter with hellfire shells (a great stealth wepon there )
scout squad with shotguns and power fist wielding sergeant
Stormtalon with skyhammer missile launcher.
I am a really slow painter and I basically ran just about everything I have. It's hardly an optimised list but I'm getting more and more out of it (and I keep adding better stuff).
Our game was a blast, and I think me seizing on you was partly to blame for that. It had great moments too, such as my Snipers infiltrating behind enemy lines and sneaking up on a predator and blowing it up in close combat, or the vindicator blowing up my entire command squad in 1 shot (happened again in my last game ) or the librarian on his bike who took shot after shot and just wouldn't go down and of course my chapter master who couldn't find the gas pedal on his bike
It's always fun to see more White Scars armies out there, and even though we were mirror matches we didn't look the same (no sunglasses were needed to look at the table). Your army looked really good on the table, and plenty menacing just deploying and scouting in my face like that.
Hey Vincent, it was a great way to start the weekend. You should put some gallerey photos of your scars on here. The white is amazing as it is quite muted but exceptionally crisp.
Really fun game and as for your chapter master.......well......
Hey guys, a while ago you asked for a line up shot of the air force so here it is.
The cockpits are not stuck and transfers not on everything yet either or weathering. I also have noticed that I need to do the aquillas on the talons as they are only base coated.
I also then did a company shot whilst I had the thunderhawk blu tacked together and I must say I am impressed with the overall look now. Still need to make 2 of the rhinos devs and have to add a libby, 3 scouts and another solitary assault marine but then it's complete.
When I look back to my first post I really get a sense of achievement. I needed this blog to push through so thanks to you guys for getting me this far.
Having a week off from painting this week butwill be back on it next week with the hawk first I reckon.
I have taken a video of the brotherhood so there are better views if anyone wants to see it then its over on youtube. White Scars 3rd Brotherhood, Task force Nomad wip: http://youtu.be/aGnylhE4Neo
I had forgotten that you were putting together the librarians and chaplain. Nice to see the other HQs getting some work. The last few pages have been all vehicles, it’s been hard to remember that there are still some bikes getting painted.
I’m with Zambro on the scroll down through the pics. The first one with the flyers was staggeringly cool, and then you top it with the next two pics.
So its confirmed. If you jink in 7th then you snap fire. Looks like the Scars have lost some of their ability. Although this mskes them a little weaker it is no bad thing. I am only upset that some armies seem to have been fixed but re rolling 2+ chaos armies continue to reign.....
Anyway this is a p&m blog and as such I will not go further with rules.
Not really a scars update but I was 'covinced' to tidy my hobby shelves and storage so after a bit of jigging around that's what I did. As a result there was a big space that needed filling so I just got back from the store with the new rulebook plus a swarmlord, exocrine, hive crone, tervigon plus a few bits for conversions and the new cards.
That will teach her to tell ms to tidy, muhahaha
I got some nids off someone that need adding to so there may be a new blog soon too.
Can I really run 3 projects at once? 4 if you count painting my eldar....
Here are some pics if my shelves. What do your bookshelves look like guys?
Pics aren't showing up. My own shelves are rather chaotic, at the moment I have Ultramarines on the top shelf, the few fatansy/lotr pieces I haven't boxed up (larger/better painted ones mostly), an assortment of WiP projects on another shelf. My display area (read: on top the TV) is currently home to the Fellowship of the Ring, an lG diorama, a Lord Commissar and some random 80s Citadel minis.
That sounds like quite a haul! Looking forward to the Nids. 4 projects? Easy I've currently got ultras, inquisition, Deadzone and death wing on the go, and am looking at starting up Malifaux instead of buying 7th...
On second thoughts, I might be a bad example to follow if you value sanity, space and time...
Haha, I lost my sanity long ago, I have space plus am getting an extension built so even more space and time, well we just make time don't we. Re done pics so should be on now.
Another project...? Any sane person could manage 4 projects, but you sir, are not sane (read: 100+ zombies). The size of the projects you take up are ridiculous, and so is the speed at which you complete them! But seriously, do what makes you happy
My shelves are fairly messy. My top shelf has 5 White Dwarf mags from 2012, 2 out of date codices, 3 in date codices, the OLD big-BRB, an IA book and the new rule books. As well as a bunch of university notes i've dumped there for convenience. Next shelf down has my completed IG, and a sample of my Scars. Bottom shelf has all my in progress IG.
What do you make of the new rulebook? Mine arrived this morning. I've skimmed through all 3 of the books, they look (and smell) great. I like how they've split it into 3 books, so much more convenient
Yeah I love the smell of new books. I prefer the smell of paperback novels but love gloss books too.....maybe I have a problem....lets not start on the smell of burnt matches or starwars figures....
I put all my out of date books and all my old white dwarves into a big box in the loft. Until the hobby room is built and the will have place to be on hand.
You are right, I am insane (I just get wrapped up in ideas) and the nid list needs stripping and repainting, but that fun right?
All my wip stuff is downstairs on my hobby/dinning table and in boxes all around, much messier photo...
I was expecting to see ranks upon ranks of minis on the shelves, not just some extra large things and books. Where do your armies live?
My shelves: (spoilerd as to not fill your thread with my stuff, but you asked)
Spoiler:
Old picture, but it gets the point across. I’ve since cleared a lot of the old books off of one shelf to make room for more minis. All my old WDs and WHFB stuff went across the basement to where I keep all my RPG stuff (more space on that shelf) I like to keep books accessible for when I need to look up some historical point, so nothing is boxed up. Both of the bookcases are freebie hand me downs. When a local bookstore closed their doors they gave the fixtures away for free. My brother in law replaced his, and gave me the nice glass fronted one. The one with my Ultras is one of the shelves he didn’t have space for. The plastic shelf unit dates to my college dorm days. Books are sorted by edition, and all the 6th ed stuff is actually on the bookcase just off to the left of the picture now. When they are not scattered around the basement, next to my recliner, computer, on the 4x8, etc.
My cases, terrain, etc are nominally kept on a shelf under my 4x8, but more accurately live on top of it.
You shouldn’t have any problem with another project. You have a talent for banging out models looking nice by the giant double handful. I envy your speed and efficiency. And the world needs more Nids.
Amazing picture nev. My armies live in another area with a whole host of 'to do' projects. There are currently a reaver, a warhound and 2 knights to name just the big ones. Plus my battle boards, terrain and bits boxes.
I li3je to see how people store/display their stuff. It gives me something to aim to. The shelves have literally got some big pieces on, lord of skulls/bane blade etc whilst the lower one has my son's books and ps3 games for when he comes to stay.
I couldn't resist the temptation of the nids so have started building. Instead oc cganging this blog I have added to my Alien nid blog and will continue there for thise interested.
Thsts 3 blogs now that im running. I'm a man and therefore cannot multi task, what will happen??
Wow, lots of spelling errors above. Apologies, that's what happens when I use my phone I guess.
Anyway for those folowing this blog I am taking a break for 9 days now as I have set a challenge to build and paint 1500pts of tyranids in hive fleet Kraken by next Wednesday.
I may be mad but at least this way I can get back to the Scars. I may do a little here and there on the scars and nurgle but doubt it.
Feel free to follow my crazy adventure on my Alien nid blog.
So I've got another layer of white done on tne thunderhawk and have trimmed a few pieces to add into the engine bay. I have the hunger to get on with this again now and will endeavor to get the ship to a "built" stage and then do a whole exterior white spray before going into tbe engines etc.
May go back to the base at some point this weekend too and will definitely do a video if it. If you want to see more if the hawk then check out my youtube vid (been bitten by the vlog aswell as blog now) and please subscribe and leave a comment so I know where you saw me first.
Hey guys, this post is gonna be on all of my blogs as I think its a more than worthy cause.
A whole community of 40+ painters are putting together the 4th company ultramarines and raffling it off for the help for heroes charity so please taka a look at the link and buy some tickets. Over £7000 was raised last year for a salamanders army that 1 lucky winner got so who know it could be you this time.
I am building and painting a tactical squad and rhino for it and will run a blog to track progress. I'm not sure if I will do it as part of my scars blog or a seperate one but will also be running a youtube vlog to help promote the cause.
I'm not normally one for begging or pushing on people but believe this is worth it. Let me know your thoughts or keep me posted as you get tickets and I'll feed it all back to Nick (IDIC BEER) who is running this amazing project.
Yeah, I checked sn tickets are not available to buy yet. Will be up soon and I'll re post at that point. Feel free toshare in the meantime on here or other social media
Not much to comment on other than good luck with this, but I figured I'd share a couple of tips for painting Ultramarines:
One thing I think works rather nicely with Ultramarines, and particularly the 4th Company, is to mix a wee bit of green in with the basecoat. If you've familiar with any colour theory, you'll know that shading (or in this case almost pre-shading) with a complementary colour can really add depth to a model, so I tend to paint them with a 4:1 blue-to-green basecoat, then a straight blue, then a highlight blue. The green layer is not visible, but it helps tie in the green of the heraldry and adds deeper shadows. A bit of green in a black/blue wash has the same effect.
White makes an excellent spot-colour. With dark models and large surfaces (ie Ultramarines) using white to add scrollwork, heraldry or other markings and insignia prevents the areas from looking too flat. I make sure each of mine has white on at least 3 areas, usually shoulder and knee pads, and then helmets for vets ect.
Don't know how useful that is, but hopefully it will give you some ideas.
Test the green on something non-important first, as it takes a try or two to get the mix right (about 1 drop of green to 3-4 of blue) but will really help the cohesion of the model. I've seen 4th co green that really jars with the blue unless you get the tone right.
It's just so dark at the moment I'm wondering how to get up to lighter blue on the vehicles
There's two ways of doing it. Firstly, you can go for extreme highlights, much like the GW scheme. This is probably the less time-intensive option as once you get used to where the highlights are going, it's a simple case of ticking the boxes. A good example of this kind of edge highlighting can be seen in this blog:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/blog/900/368000.page Particularly the later stuff is required reading for any Ultramarine painter.
Also, this one:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/blog/323859.page
The other option is to blend up to the lighter colours, which requires more time and is perhaps less intuitive, but equally effective. The key thing with this method is thinning your paints, as you'll be doing 3 layers minimum, and probably a wash as well. I can't think of any bloggers on here that use that method, but a basic layering/blending tutorial shouldn't be that hard to find. The end result is that you get less severe highlights and a more subtle blend.
Ultimately, both of them look great, so pick whichever one you prefer. It might be worth seeing what the rest of your fellow ultra-painters are doing, so you get cohesion across the army.
I can’t help you get lighter. I just do a blue ink over Macragge blue, and it is quite dark. Starting with a Kantor blue should be even darker.
If you want to go darker, check out what RandyMcStab is doing with his Ultras. His stuff makes mine look like powder blue armor that’s been left in the sun for a few centuries. Just different takes on the boys in blue, it’s all good.
Hey guys just a quick update, I'll put pics up tomorrow at some point.
Got everything up to the main blue now and just need to darken the right areas back down (it is strange having blue marines instead of white on my table) so will do that over the coming days and then its golds and details and done really. If only it were that simple haha.
All progress is on youtube and I would ask people who read this to PLEASE check out the videoes and more importantly PLEASE PLEASE like and share the video to raise awarness of the project no matter what country you are from. Feel free to leave a little comment telling me how imo doing or where you found me, I like to read them on there.
Last thing, we have plenty of minis to paint to complete the 4th company but are need of some of the larger things such as land raiders, rhino variants etc. If you or anyome you know can donate any of these things or anything you think may help then please let me know and I can sort out a way of getting them to us. Remember, every penny we raise will go to the charity so the more models we have the money we can raise. Tickets are not on sale yet but will be available shortly.
So darkening the blue didnt work how I wanted it to and I started from the begining again.
All colours are vallejo model air
Based with Arctic blue then used blue and light sea blue for two different contrasts before covering with french blue for an even finish. I will put at least one more layer of french blue for more consistency.
I next intend to drybrush the highlights in 3 or 4 stages to create a natural shade rather than using washes and then its onto the other base colours.
Not sure how well the pictures will show up the grades of pre shade and highlight but can all you ultramarines players let me know what you think so far please.
Thanks guys and there is a nother video on youtube showing the pre french blue stage if anyone wants to see the effect.
Off out on my stag doo today/tonight so may not get anything done tomorrow due to a hangover. 4 weeks today I sign my life away......I mean marry the woman I love cough cough...
Good rich shade on those guys, and the vehicles are nice and smooth. Coming along nicely.
You should work on your Nurgle army while hungover. That way if you are pukeing your guts out, you can use it for inspiration! I don’t think I’ve ever been to a traditional drink your self stupid stag party. And congrats on the upcoming marriage. You might be signing you life away, but at least all the wedding planning will finally be over.
Quite right about the plann7ng nev and thsnks for the comments on the blue guys.
Was actually home for 11.30 pm and sober for the best part but had a great day and great company. Went karting then for a meal at a brazillian where they just keep bringing you different meats until you stop them or pass out. As a result today has been spent sweating all the salt meat out. Urgh...
Not touched the hobby table today so will get on with the highlights tomorrow.
Right, the highlights worked and are all done. I think I may be finished with the blue paint other than tidying up now. Really happy with how they have come out and looking forward to finishing them off and sticking the marines together.
Well this is for charity so I should be happy but I feel tainted by venturing over to the blue side.
Gonna be a refreshing change going back to white although I'm thinking of taking a break from marines and nids and working on some rotted nurgle...
If anyone can help out I need 2 cockpit glasses for the talons and also the control consoles too.
Hi guys, been a while since I posted and there are reasons behind it.
I know a lot of you looked at the thread I posted above regarding my new store so just thought I'd share where I am up to with all things currently.
1. The store.
The property I wanted is not available on a long lease anymore as the owner wants to develop in 18 months time so I obviously cant go ahead with that. Its still on the go but need to find a new home for it. This has taken so much of my time with drawing up plans etc.
2. HELP for HEROES.
I have been waiting for bits to arrive for the ultramarines which have finally just got here this morning so I will get them finished by the weekend and oost final pics up so I can move back ti the scars and more importantly the thunderhawk.
3. Commission work and YouTube.
My commission work is starting to get some interest now and enquiries are filterinig through (please get in touch if you are intereseted I any work) so I have been prioritising that as people are paying good money for it. My YouTube channel is becoming more and more popular and takes a massive amount of my time, recording, uploading and watching videos but is a great media platform for the commission stuff so I have had to focus on it.
4. The wedding.
Only 10 days left now (12th July) so there have been lots of late nights with the mrs organising final detail etc
All in all these things have taken my focus away from here but I promise that in the week or so I will be back to regular pics and updates.
Please feel free to visit my channel or pm me on here if you have any enquiries from 1 model to a whole army. Paint, build or conversion. Or all 3. VERY competitive prices and visit my gallery to see the standard of work.
Love the paint on the rhino, very crisp. Everything is well done.
IIRC from assembling my own talon, there are separate sides for the swappable guns. The ones you used are designed for the HB ammo hoppers or LC batteries, the missile ones are smooth sided, not inset. Not that what you have doesn’t work, but it took me a second to figure out why it looked “off” to me.
The Tac sarge is packing a plasma pistol and a power fist? Big spender. I’m a more bare-bones kinda guy. Looks cool though. It might just be my failing eyesight, but did you not include a special weapon? The ML is clear, but everything else looks like bolters. I can see the case for not taking the heavy in a full ten man squad (even though to do so is to tempt heresy) but the special is a must have IMHO.
Glad to see you painting blue. And thanks for giving to charity.
The sides of the missile launchers look a bit silly, if I'm honest. I think the fact that there is a decal in there. It really draws the eye, I probably wouldn't have noticed it if it was solid blue.
Anyway, good to see they're finished (almost).
And Para is right; Show off some of your commission stuff
Thanks guys the talons were already built so I had no sayso and kind of had to get on with im afriad. As for the squad I was told by the guy organising it had to be loaded that way.
I would have at keast a melta gun and defo would not have plasma as it doesn't agree with me hahaha

Wow, you were told to build the tacs that way? I saw the list of units on the website for the project, but didn’t dig around to see if there was an army list associated. If you asked me to build the most inefficient tactical squad I could I might have come up with that one. Sorry if I’m coming off a little harsh, but my mind is seriously blown as to why someone would require you to build that. Is there a TOE of the 4th company somewhere he’s trying to duplicate? GW often does some pretty daft things when they list units for forces.
Not to slight the work you did painting, but the gamer in me is ranting a bit. And the painter is torqued off, because no sensible player will ever field that squad as-is. So your wonderfully painted squad will see the table with the sarge swapped out for someone who costs less then a tank, and one of the bolter boys replaced by a special weapon trooper.
Haha nev, I've missed your rants. You are quite right though. I think it was from one of the books. Perhaps I'll add another marine with plasma and magnetize the serg.
As for the commission work guys I am currentley painting a black legion forge fiend and building some tyranid MC'S with some dynamic poses. Will put oics up when done.
So I got wed and went through with it. Had an amazing day, weather was excellent and food was great. Nicki walked down the ailse to sweet child o'mine and we walked out to the cermonial tune from Star Wars. (video is on my youtube channel)
Not done anything hobby wise for a week now as have been prepping and coming down from the wedding but intend very much to get back on the game now.
Thanks for perservering with my lack of content guys and I promise normal service will be resumed soon haha
I have been focussing on getting work and also tbh on my YouTube channel. I have however ploughed through some more stuff recentley and got a load more off the desk.
I got back into the Thunderhawk only to find that when i masked the wings to paint the engine all the white and the primer peeled straight off the resin. I was fuming to say the least. People have now told me that it's a good idea to spray with varnish first (after washing obv) so will get back to it soon.
I did a few commissions recentley too which I have posted the Forge Fiend pics in my gallery rather than clogging up this thread with non related pics. Also have vid on my channel as you would expect.
Where am I going moving forward????
There is a painting challenge/competition over on the warmaster forum http://thewarmaster.com/index.php?topic=3789.0 and it basically consists of 3 teams of people painting over 3 months and supporting each other etc to get through their stuff. I will be getting back to my furious speed painting (I hope) as I want to finish the bikes and TH plus I have ALL that Nurgle stuff to get throug. I have not had a tournament to look forward to since May so that kind of slowed my desire down with the Scars but this challenge seems as good an idea as any to get them done haha.
What have you guys all been up to whilst i've been gone?
Nice looking fiend. A little clean for my vision of chaos, but well executed. Not a huge fan of the model personally. I keep getting a picture of a walking barrel. Still, good work.
While you are off galavanting on other forums and mediums, don’t neglect us here on Dakka. While youtube videos might be quick and easy, I like still pictures and text personally for viewing miniatures. Don’t hold with that new fangled moving picture malarky.
But wherever you are posting it, keep up the good work.
The Forgefiend looks very cool, the magma effect is very nice and cool without being over-the-top. Bad luck with the Thunderhawk, but at least you know now and won't repeat the incident on other FW pieces.
Best of luck with the painting challenge, if you paint anywhere near as fast and well as the Nids then you're sorted!
Cheers guys, and nev don't worry I won't forget where I started so will keep on with the stills and plenty of text.
I agree about the cleanness of the FF but it is how the client wanted it so have to go with his vision I guess. I'm also not a fan of the standard model either. Tomorrow see me starting to build a Nurgle imperial knight so will hitup WIP pic along the way.
I have painted all of the interior of the Thunderhawk and added parts to it for an engine ay etc with the view to magnetising the lid so that it can e takin apart. Due to the crap cast from FW I cannot get it to sit well together without greenstuffing the joins which will mean closing the whole thing in permantley.
I really don't wanna lose all that lovely detail but can't see any other way as it will look awful from the outside with gaps??
There is a TON of detail in those things, I would not glue it shut. How to keep it open and working is a little beyond my ken though. Is there any way you can greenstuff the gaps, and still keep it so you can open it? Do something like take plastic wrap and cover one half (so the stuff won’t stick), then try to fix it? I’ve not worked on large resin kits, so can’t offer a lot of technical advice.
How bad are the gaps? Is it something that’s going to be noticeable on the table? While it might irritate perfectionists, you could play with a slightly mis-assembled model and have the best of both worlds.
Hmmm, are the gaps caused by warpage, using a hairdryer are you able to soften the resin in the right places and get it sit better together?
If not that, then maybe consider installing a couple of LED lights in the interior before glueing and greenstuffing together. That way you can see the detail from the ramp by just turning on the lights.
The detail would'nt get caught by the light so that won't work i'm afraid.
It's no so mauch warpage as shrinkage and if I glueit you then I would have to GS the gaps and sculpt the detail etc so not sure if it would suffice with plastic wrap.
If I was doing it in another legions colours then I could possibly live with the gaps as I could hide them on sy a templar or Iro Hnad but on white they are impossible to hide.
I guess you will just have to pick up a second thunderhawk. That way you can have one open as a display piece, and one closed to game with.
How often do you expect to field it on the table? If most of it’s time is going to be spent on the shelf looking cool, might as well just leave it open, so it can look cool inside and out. If you plan on fielding it on a regular basis, seal it up. You will know that the insides are awesome, and gain a quiet confidence from that fact. And then blow people off the table with the guns.
If I was in your shoes, I’d seal it up, fix any gaps, and use it. For me, the goal of 40k is to have a nice looking army on the table. Painted interiors, swiveling guns, etc. are gravy, but the priority is to get a WYSWYG model on the field. If a model does not work for use on the table, it needs to be fixed so it can. It sounds like the gaps in your T-hawk make it so you can’t field it as-is. So you need to make necessary repairs.
Now that’s assuming your primary goal is play. If you want this thing as a display piece, where the lid is going to be off to the side most of the time so you can see the grubbins, who cares if it’s not snug and flush.
Now for the price you pay for the hawk, and the amount of detail, you want both. But if you must choose one, you need to figure out what your priorities are. They might not be the same as mine.
Nev, I have been away for a while but am glad to see that your advice still makes sense (still got to make the assault troops busting through the stain glass yet haha)
I will seal it up and can always look back on my pictures....
Red looks good, nice and solid! Shame to hear it wasn't too good in game, but at the very least you'll have a great looking centrepiece for your force!
Cheers guys, this was nothing to do with paint. It just isn't wersatile enough on the table and has very restricted movement with limited firng arcs. All those points for 1 D large blst, 2 las cannons and 4 heavy bolters ain't special....
It will make the cabinet look good when I finish it up though....
