Greetings,
Thank you for replying so quickly earlier I do appreciate it, and thank you for doing all the work for the contest I have submitted my Proof and I read up to five photos in the rules above so I added four of my finished photos to this post. Enjoy!

1 Week to go! I'm still here and still in the running. Grots are done (despite some difficulties I'll elaborate on when I post final pics), and I just have the kannon left to do. As usual, some great entries this month, I'm really looking forward to seeing the final pics from everyone. Good luck to all you like me who still have work to complete before the end of this short month.

Hi,
Beautiful entries so far. Below are my entry pics. The ‘size matter’s not’ is the last thought that went the snotling’s mind before the Furioso’s right foot.
This is my first BA model (other than a test marine) I must admit I went back and forth trying to get the base/shades/highlights right until i realised i didn’t know what i was aiming for. At this point I tried out paradigms advice and I’m fairly happy with the results. The model took 2-3 times longer than it should have.
My fine detail work has always been sketchy and I’ll be redoing the ‘Mortem’ scroll when i get some time to paint again. (I won’t get another opportunity before March). I think i just need to stop avoiding fine detail and practice a bit more.
I also think I went a bit too far with battle damage/weathering (every other Blood Angel I've seen looks pristine). Ah well, it was fun to do =)
Would love to hear your critiques,

Frankly, it's fantastic! The Dread looks like a Dreadnought should, big, stompy and beat up (Clean Marines are for... well, people who like clean Marines, I guess, but personally, I think the more weathered the better! ). And the Grot is just hilarious, those minis are just so full of character. The base looks epic too!

Moolet that is really nice, I think the battle damage is spot on too.
Jan, lovely work as always, even ignoring that you did it in a few days
Trevor is getting there, a few more washes, one more base and I will be ready for final touches HRRRRRRRNNNNNG. I also wrote a special message to BC on the underside of the base.

Love it, Jan! Got a group shot of him(?) with his companions? Very cheeky little thing.
Might be the white background, but I'm not sure about the cold base with the warm figure. Still very Blanche-y and creepy though.
Also holy hell at that Sigmarite. That's astonishing.
The amount of pro/extreme painters seems to be increasing each month, which is really cool to see so many working on these themes.
(Though very discouraging if like me, you haven't started yet. Not feeling much pull to the brushes after those posts and a lazy weekend)

@paradigm, extreme painting for me is painting before coffee :p

Post by: Nevelon
Anything before coffee is an extreme activity. As is painting right after coffee. I drink about half a pot in the morning, and any sort of detail work is impossible thanks to the jitters. Caffeine is a cruel double-edged sword. It gets me moving (no simple feat) but often non-consistently.

I meant the kind that roll out of bed, nudge a mini with their elbow and accidentally create a freehand banner, but I like your idea better.
Does feel like we've gone from 5 a side games to suddenly being dumped in the big leagues.

Extreme painting sounds good, perhaps it means dosing the paint thinner with a touch of cyanide. First time you get a point on your brush with your lips and you're done for. I wouldn't survive an hour...

@kb_lock: From continent to continent I’ve travelled, from modelling shop to modelling shop I’ve seen and the utterances in every dark corner of every workbench whispered... “... Trev... Trev ... Trev” The unspoken name of model long since unfinished...
Seriously though, beautiful work. The wings in particularly are spectacular.

I like to think the little snotling is the last of squad that just charged the dreadnaught. The rest have just been roasted by the frag cannon and flamer, he just hasn't realised his mates aren't with him. Perhaps I should diorama that at some point.=)

I think you need to include a 25mm base or something in the final photo because he is genuinely larger than most people realise.
I'm going to start on Yarrick shortly. Para, can I get permission to photoshop something off the final pictures?
He has a banner pole that a friend is making the banner for - I will not get it before the 28th and it's not my work when it arrives anyway. So I would just block out an empty pole on the photo.

Thanks, but surprisingly it looks better on camera than in person. It's just a single layer of paint, wash and highlight for most of it, a drybrush on the metallics, and a few layers of white for the helmet (which is chalky as a blackboard tbh). In reality it was a 2 hour paintjob but I was watching friends at the time and so got distracted.

The new one is probably my least favourite Commissar, oddly enough. If I had one, I would swap out the klaw. It turns him from a guy with a weaponised arm on the banners and art, to a half-man-half-tonka-truck, which is a shame. It would realistically (ha) hurt a 50 year old something fierce to wield something like that.
That said this figure really shouldn't be viewed side on. He's single piece cast, and amusingly flat. Cardboard commissar.

That is the 1990s Yarrick. He would originally have came with a paper banner depicting him losing his arm.
The base is a corpse from the "Thieving Grots" GW set. I drilled it, flattened his knees, and changed Yarrick's feet to stand on him. The head has no teeth due to them having been pinched by a grot with pliers from the set.

Para, the black areas are actually very dark purple but with the claws being pure black. The body will be getting edge highlighting with a dark blue/purple to bring out the high points. These two are some of the smallest creatures on the battlefield, but they're putting out S8 AP3 shots. Size Matters Not Indeed. Presenting Gree-Z and Grunt!
On a P&M note, I bought this set off eBay thinking, oh great, they're pre-primed, this should be a piece of cake! However, the original owner didn't remove the mold lines before priming them, and I only managed to chase down some of them before getting tired of the endeavor. Then I discovered that the primer used was probably some kind of two-part oil-based house paint. The first component repels all other kinds of paint (in particular, acrylics) and the second component flakes off in order to better expose the original metal underneath. I would paint portions of these, leave them overnight without touching them, only to come back in the morning and find places that were chipped off down to the metal. I re-primed each model twice (over the other stuff) w/ my own paint-on primer, and ultimately ended up thinning my paints with primer to help them adhere better. The takeaway is that from now on, no matter what I buy off eBay, I'm stripping it to bare metal and starting fresh.
End rant, thanks to Para once again for hosting the Challenge, final pics:

Well, the moment you've all been waiting for (I hope!), time for me to unveil the mighty Tau KV128 Stormsurge that I've been laboring over for a month. Pics or it didn't happen, you say? Well, feast your eyes on these:
Let me tell you, my photography skills do not do this thing justice. I had a hard time making a good white background, since this thing is just so big. Hard to pick the best photos of the ones I took as well. The contest rules say five, and five is how many I'm submitting, but I took eleven in total. The rest will very shortly be found in my Stormsurge blog.
I can tell you, this was a very challenging miniature (and I use the term miniature very loosely) to build and paint. However, it was a lot of fun. I think it fits this month's theme very nicely on many levels (indeed, size mattered not for me getting this done in time!). Biggest miniature I've ever done in my life. I'm loving what everyone else has submitted so far. Most entries have gone toward small rather than big (lot of grots this month). Looking forward to the voting!

Unfortunately due to some work issues I didnt get the 3 models I wanted done, but here is my Bag Pipe Playing Goblin none the less.

Trevor started off in the "I paint your miniature and borrow it for a while" thread.
I posted him as something I never got anywhere with him, having got him second hand from a kid who got him from someone else...
And basically his tail weighed so much that every time KB assembled it, regardless of glue, pin or securing it, it fell off. Occasionally wrecking stuff at the same time.
Pretty sure he's haunted by sheer ennui.

That thread has a lot of the drama within it, as does this one;

As does this one
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/659995.page#8075048
I will compile them all into the chronicles of trev one day - right now it is all a bit too soon. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Please don't remind me of the tail.
It is still slightly wonky, held together with pure rage. He has wrecked at least 2 models, a drill bit, and who knows what else. On top of it all, I also bought my own Malryte from the manufacturer - it is in worse shape than Trev when I got him.
I don't want to hang gak on Valiant Miniatures, but this thing is utterly terrible. I have seen chinese recasts that are of infinitely better quality.

Sry I haven't been very active on the thread this months, it seems over the last 2 and a half weeks I've barely had chance to eat let alone browse the internet.
After a big push over the weekend and tonight I've mostly finished the models, still some highlighting left to do in places and a few extras bits I would like to finish also some that went wrong (Lightening Effect on sword and In my haste I cut the poor snotlings toes off ) but its at least something.
I present
Rule number 1 of Adeptus Astartes School. Always wear your helmet because size matters not when it comes to bashing your brains in with a Spikey club.
I'll hopefully have a look at everyones progress tomorrow

Only got two blokes done in 3 weeks. :(
These guys are the extremely basic, and arguably... kind of cruddy line infantry for the Nomad Sectorial: Jurisdictional Command of Bakunin (Infinity).
(The two guys are center, far right, and bottom left in the block of 9 infantry in the proof photo)

Man Trev called all that wailing and gnashing of teeth? Is it wrong that all it does is fuel my desire to conquer it myself?

I actually finished this guy on the 8th, but I've been busy, and out of it, and forgot to post up. So, here it is.
I thought he came out fairly well for an eBay rescue.
Looking amazing, everyone.

I'm finished! Hopefully I can take some better pictures in the morning, so long as that's not breaking the rules, Para?
Mega Nobz:
I got cold feet about them being too colourful and wacky looking, so at the last minute I reverted to type and Goffed them up.
Good luck in the voting, everyone!

Really didn't like the white background for the Vox Dinvina ServoSkull, so reshot the noisy little bugger on a black on. The other is now deleted so here's the new shot

Superb last minute entries from everyone! Since a couple of you mentioned needing to take better pics or whatever, I'll leave the submissions open for another couple of hours or so, hopefully that'll be enough for you (if not, them PM me the pics and I'll add them in to the Vote thread).
@kb: Chronicles of Trev is a Dakka article waiting to happen...
@MG: I knew you'd find a way to get some comedic greenskins in there! Good stuff!

Love what you did with that tower Tal.
This month was rough for me, I am afraid that for all my teasing I forgot about my dread. Also Im apparently not a DCM anymore and I also got distracted by some metal guard models and plastic ones. Cough.
I'll re enter old man Belore if there is a contest that would suit him.
Trev looks good, considering he is a dick.

I've written a whole series of curses, complaints, swear words, and general nastiness on the underside of the base.
@Para, never ever considered an article, consider it done.

Next month's (well, this month's now) is Space Marines, so he'd fit right in there. So long as you've not actually painted any more of him, resubmitting is absolutely fine!

Trev isn't a bad guy, he just had a shaky start in life. You haven't seen the pics of what colours I had to clean off him to get him down to bare metal...
He also has a brother. Smaller, but I've similarly never got anywhere with him.

I hear kb_lock isn't doing much these days, I'm sure he'd take on Trev's little bro! Voting is up! http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/682187.page#8493731

I know I'm new around here, but I just wanted to say that you have no reason to doubt yourself or your skills. From what I have seen of your work, you are on a above-average level and you have a very nice unique feel going on.
Keep on trucking man, and hold your head high - Your minis deserve nothing less

Yep, what he said!
Or to put it another way, your minis are a) very rapidly improving in quality, you're pushing yourself all the time and it's paying off and b) they're already better than a good 70-80% of minis I've seen across the table from me over the years. The fact they're painted is one thing, but they're also painted to a consistently good standard and if all my opponents could get their act together and match the kind of quality you're putting out, I'd be very happy indeed!
So yeah, soldier on, keep on doing what you're doing, and be proud of it! For what it's worth, you'd definitely have got my vote for that Angel if it'd been in the poll!

Pfff... this thread has little point now anyway...so I derail fuuuuurther!!
TP^ DC, never judge your skills against another painter. We are all at different points on the same path. Others are better because they've had more time in, that is all. So it's like worrying about people being younger or older than you. Silly.
Judge your painting by what YOU have done before. Is your latest work better than your first? Good you're learning! Is it better than your last work befor it? Awesome! You're learning FAST!
This is from someone who's been painting minis for longer than the majority of posters here has been alive. I was self-taught for a very long time and learned dry-brushing, washes and highlighting pretty much on my own. Nowadays (you young whipper-snappers!) have the sum of human knowledge on your phones and can follow some of the best painters in the world's blogs. What I'm saying is, I have learned very slowly over my 30 odd years of doing this and am not a phenomenal painter. Mostly because I haven't put the effort into improvement over a large portion of that time. Now my efforts are focused on doing that again. So take it easy on yourself and learn all you can. If you do, and stay with it, you could be a very amazing painter in a relatively short time. Just make sure you keep improving!
/preachy oldman rant
Oh, and those creepy alien things are freakin' sweet!

Thanks man. I'm in a similar position, but only 20 years of painting with a huge gap in the middle. My dad taught me and I sort of tried things and got some sort of effect, then saw these ink things (see how old I mean) came out from GW and Inhave them ago.
I agree though. Phones and Dakka have accelerated my learning beyond my imaginings.
And I will definitely take your advice. And on a side point, you are a very good painter [full stop]

 Stop being so British!
Your stuff has consistently hit the mark throughout the contests you've entered, and you are definitely deserving of the praise your work gets.
I can remember the colours and figures of some of your pieces (though not the names because I'm dreadful at character names) and what you worked on, so you definitely leave a good impression.

Well done for entering them anyway after the comp finished TP^ DC, nice to see them in their finished glory.
As regard to questioning your own skills I'd be at risk of just be repeating what people have already said here, your work is good and I have voted for you on more than one occasion.
I view the challenges as a way to have fun and be creative with the hobby since I have a very limited amount of time for it (or anything else atm) As long as you enjoy yourself with what your doing it doesn't matter what skill level your at, its your hobby after all. Also the people are a pretty good group too

I was practically hating the models for having taken so long and was obviously peeved at having mixed the deadline, but then when I finished them up, as you say, I loved them again. Posting was to create a sense of closure was great to have them photographed properly and up on Dakka

Yeah, what everyone else said, TP! I think that Mature Angel is amazing, and the Minnows turned out well too! Thanks for posting it even though you missed the deadline. Almost makes me wish I'd gotten in on the Medge kickstarter (except I'd have no one to play with). I myself have gone through periods of "painter's blues" where I didn't feel like my painting was very good, but ultimately I've looked back and compared some of my more recent work to some of my early work, and I realize that I have improved. Like the others said, the only one you should really compare yourself to is yourself.
