OMG Horus is mindblowing! Sculpt looks so crisp, guess he is the first Primarch to be digitally designed.
For anyone hoping for more HH plastic, don't get your hopes up too much. I guess we've seen most if not all of the plastic releases for now, and depending on how surprised they were by their own success, it might take a few months before we see more plastic kits.
Now the question is, are the MkIII power armour pieces on his bases the same as the current plastic kit or rescaled/redesigned?

And now: berserkers. Lots of bare arms, for anyone who was missing those.
10 in a box! axes, swords, double handed chainsword, double handed axe, at least 3 plasma pistols shown.

Summary time:
Votann- meh to blah for me, but everything is shown off now, so that's done.
Excitement for a road map, and that Guard and WE are set for Winter (supposedly Winter _this year_, according to Eddie).
Underworlds- neat idea, not sure it appeals. But could see cannibalizing them for characters or conversions.
AoS- Ogres and Giants are getting a token release, pleased with the Slaves to Darkness stuff.
Roadmap again, Elfs and Tzeentch should be september to fit in 'summer,' then big folks for autumn and Chaos for Winter.
HH- Big thumbs down. Couldn't have disappointed me more if they tried.
Bersekers- will give these a think. definitely an improvement, but that would be hard not to do at this point.
No teaser. Oh well.
And WarCom hasn't updated with anything past the ogre hunter.

I like all the Votan infantry. It feeling the vehicles. Not quite Taurox territory, but getting close. The land fortress would be ok with less but bigger wheels I think. Wheels are a weird choice if it is supposed to be landraider ish.
HH reveal was even more disappointing than the Adeptus Titanicus new weapon reveal. At least that didn’t get elevated to the bigger event.
The last couple events like this had been much better after a string of terrible over-hyped nothing burgers. This wasn’t to that low, more of a mixed bag, but it always feels a bit of a waste to have a big chunk devoted to something that is coming so soon.

So... NotSquat characters are nice. The Champ, the Psyker, the Engineer, the Robo-Friends and the leader dude are all pretty cool. So far the Votann characters are pretty good. It's their everything else I don't really like. The giant Box Fortress puts even Marine flyers to shame. It doesn't feel solid. It feels... inflatable. Underwords. I simply have to have the Bloodhulk guy or whatever he's called. That model is too cool. The Priest guy is pretty sweet as well. It's weird, I own tons of Underworld models, yet I have zero interest in ever playing the game. I guess that's a testament to how good the minis are for that range. AoS. Hunter Ogre is fine, I guess. Big Giant is nice, I 'spose. No real interest from me. I preferred the Ogre Hunter from Underwords (he had a Sabretusk friend!). The new Chaos stuff is fething cool! The Chosen are ace, the Daemon Prince is amazing (I want 6!). The kinda-sorta Minotaurs are nifty. Love everything about that re-release. And I feel sorry for poor Lumineth players. Horus Heresy. Another waste of time preview, being a single resin FW mini, but damn if Ascended Horus ain't a great looking kit. Makes the Abaddon model look like an amateur sculpt. And back to 40k again, the World Eater release terrifies me, as so far it just seems like a list that takes the Chaos Codex, throws 80% of it out the window, and leaves you with dregs. And no Power Fists on my 'Zerker Champs either. Thanks GW for invalidating yet another one of my armies. See you when the Guard Codex comes out so you can do it again. [EDIT]: Ok, I worked out what's off-putting about the new Berzerkers. It's the bare arms. Once upon a time, Kharn had a bare arm/Space Wolves had a few wolf pelts or wolf-head symbols. Then a brain bug infested GW and flanderisation began, and now all Zerkers have bare arms/Space Wolves are 100% wolves all the time. By the time we hit 13th Edition World Eaters will have the "full Space Wolf" treatment, and the new new 'Zerkers will basically be this, but with chainweapons and a Khorne helmet.

Guard? Last Codex of the year. World Eaters? First Codex of next year. Then either a 10th Ed designed new Marine Codex, or filler campaign books and then BOOM, 10th Ed in May/June, followed by a new Marine Codex (if it's not already out) and a seriously downgraded Tyranid Codex.

The Khorne Berserkers look amazing imo. They're very distinctive, but at the same time, if one were to put in some of their own kitbashed from the CSM box, they would fit well together. I also love the new Chosen; with just a powerpack attached and a ranged weapon of some kind, it would be very easy to transform them into different-looking CSM, maybe even 40K Chosen.

The Chosen are great, and I'm sure someone will 40k-er-ize them at some point. I'm just shocked that they're coming 10 to a box, and not 5. Ditto for the 'Zerkers coming 10 to a box rather than 8.

They often actually just admit that they don't know, as they did with the psychic displine (which is itself infuriating, because they're doing a reading of a press copy, so they should, and if they don't, one of the five people in the sound booth should tell them the answer).
Not compatible would be honestly weird. GW's at the point where they can just tweak power armor bits and send them out into the world, they're all CAD files. Making non-compatible bits would require more effort than just using the standard sockets.
Admittedly sometimes they do death guard, but given that people have previously complained that these berserkers (or the one that was previewed initially) look too much like normal CSM, I don't really think that's a concern.

I said said, their version of "compatible" differs to everyone else. Compatible means you can mix'n'match as you see fit. GW probably thinks that because heads, shoulder pads and backpacks can be mixed, that the kits are "compatible". Voss wrote:Admittedly sometimes they do death guard, but given that people have previously complained that these berserkers (or the one that was previewed initially) look too much like normal CSM, I don't really think that's a concern.
You say that, but then we get a 'Zerker kit where half an arm is connected to the front part of the torso and the right shin and left leg, with the other half of the body containing the rest of the legs, and part of the other arm, and only one chainsword and boltpistol combi fit with those half arms... but the head and shoulder pads can be anything from the kit, so yay, "compatible"! As always: Me being wrong is a good thing for everyone, but I don't have any faith in GW to do things properly anymore. This upcoming WE book is going to utterly gut World Eater armies, leaving them with dregs for unit choices.

Lots of conversions from titan parts.
Black thing on the left is part of a bellicosa volcano cannon with a vent added. Top right tower thing is the barrel from a quake cannon. Middle top looks like the back block of a volcano cannon or laser blaster.

Votann: I’m not sure about them as a whole still, but some of the stuff they showed today is my favourite. There’s more left than I’d thought too. I love the Land Fortress - I can see the ‘inflatable’ thing, but it doesn’t bother me at all. And I think the Grimnyr is really cool. I’m not sure about the drone things though, they look a bit goofy. And I still do not like the Beserks at all (although I like the detail of the powered down axe).
Underworlds: they hit this warband out the park, in my opinion. The Gorehulk in particular is awesome. I definitely didn’t have Khorne in mind for that headdress rumour engine.
AoS: actually a big fan of the Ogor, even the head. It looks a bit goofy, but almost in a creepy way. Reminds me of something you might see in a ‘hillbilly’ slasher film like Wrong Turn or something. The drake head quiver is a really nice touch.
King Brodd is nice enough, the new bits are pretty cool. I’m not the biggest fan of the underlying model and it’s a shame that if you have multiple Mega Gargants (in this economy?!) they have the same leg pose, although I do think the silhouettes change a fair bit.
The new StD Chosen are ace, nothing bad to say about them. The Ogroid things put me off the box though, they have not grown on me at all.
Horus Ascended: what an absolutely incredible model. I liked (and still do like) the original Horus, he was probably up there in Primarch models for me, and this one is even better. I like how much maps to the original too. Not that I was ever expecting some big warp monster but externally Horus’s corruption was very subtle compared to the others.
Berserkers: 10 to a box! They look great, I think. The one they showed before was the most plain of them, lots of cool helmet/head variety, the weapons are great. They’re exactly what they should have been, the same idea as the originals, they just actually look good now.
Not a bad show overall, imo.

New Chosen are fantastic, seriously excellent models.
I also really like the Khorne Bezerkers, fair play it's a great new kit. Interested to see what happens with the rest of the WE codex.
Back to the Votann, obviously the psyker is the best model in the whole range and the style of the droids is extremely cool. The mole launcher is a nice little kit, mainly because of the wee ironkin helper. I like the idea of them patiently handing ammunition to this over muscled frothy mouthed dwarf shouting oaths and firing into the ground.
I am in two minds about the land fortress. I don't dislike it, but I understand the criticism. It's a bit too bubbly and I want it to have tracks.
I just want my hands on the codex so I can slorp up the lore.

I think all reveals have been pretty much amazing. Really love the Votann "drones" and the Land Fortress, such a unique silhouette and looks to be a pretty beefy kit.
Star of the show was Horus Ascendant for me. The old model was amazing, but the new one seems to have more modern proportions and to be more in scale with the later released Primarchs (for those who don't know, the Primach models are not in scale, the early ones were smaller than the later ones). Also this means there must be an Emperor model coming, with the pose of the classic Horus vs the Emperor artwork, right? RIGHT??
Berzerkers look amazing, the only thing I'm not completely sold on is the Ogor Hunter. He seems to be rather slim by Ogor standards, the proportions of his body and head don't seem to match with previous models. And no tigers? Boo!

Overall a really solid preview!
Squats were expected and appear to be getting a very nice chunky first wave of models with a solid starter set and codex combo. The newly revealed stuff is looking great and I'm glad to see them get a good chunk of models right out the door as that helps the aesthetics of the army come together.
AoS is getting a big wave of Battletomes and updates and considering that Squats are clearly dominating this next release wave I think AoS is doing more than good for new stuff. Slaves to Darkness are getting some nice chunky updates and the new Demon Prince kit is coming! That Battlebox I think is going to be very popular come Christmas.
HH gets a big resin model and that looks awesome, not for me, but looks awesome!
Overall a nice chunky set of releases and previews.

Wee bit disappointed Horus is all we saw for Heresy, as I had been hoping for another wave of plastic goodies. I’m not particularly wanting lots of different Mks, but I do want a greater variety of plastic infantry.
Of course not previewed doesn’t equate to not coming ever, but still mild disappoint. Like finding that last Cornetto was the one you had last night. Not the end of the world, but an unexpected trip to the shops.
Everything else is wunderbar though. Whilst I’m not tempted by a Votann army (the army box itself seems….a bit anaemic), the range is looking great. I particularly like the Land Fortress, as it’s armour plating and side doors are both vaguely reminiscent of the Land Raider, demonstrating perhaps a common ancestor design in the past, or that one was the development of the other.
It’s far from easy to drop stuff into 40K and have it look cohesive with the rest of the setting, but I think they’ve done it. Automatically Appended Next Post: H.B.M.C. wrote:I worked out what's off-putting about the new Berzerkers.

There's also a lot more Slaves to Darkness stuff that we haven't seen yet (or rather, that GW haven't revealed officially). There's the new Warrior kit, some big special character guy, new Knights. It's a pretty big release full of very cool new models. I'm still amazed Chosen come 10 to a box though. Certainly not compared to the Black Templar box. Now that was anaemic! I've seen that picture time and time again and I can't remember ever noticing the bare arms. Well I'll be. Still looks stupid though. Would've preferred it stay a Kharn thing.

I can see the trikes not being to someone's taste, but not wanting the Codex a little early, or two of the core Troops unit? This makes little sense to me, I'll be honest.

True on the BT box!
And to be honest? Half the time I think I imagined the Assault Marines in the pic. I was around when they were released, and they really weren’t around for long. Possibly shorter than the second metal Sentinel kit. The boxy one. When it still had an Assault Cannon.

If they only had used a different unit rather than 2 box sets of same infantry kit I would be more tempted.
At this point Im also not sure if the bikes is a 3xbike per box or 1bike per box. Seems like a beefy and potentially expensive set to have 3 of those.
The way I see it the dex, bikes and the extra box of same infantry will eat up any savings on the army box.
I rather invest that money on stuff like guys with suits and heavy dudes potentially also the buggy or fortress.

Quite a nice collection of reveals although a bit heavy on the savage-theme, but the Votann offering added some variety there.
Only thing I felt that looked really off was the E-COGs. Its good that the designs are trying to avoid the clear-plastic stands but they look confusing, especially with the hovering CORVs previewed immediately afterwards which have gone ahead and used the clear-plastic stands anyway.
The Votann aesthetic might not be the most grimdark for 40K but they'd be right at home in other sci-fi wargames. The Land Fortress is quite funky and wouldn't mind it as a piece of scenery.

Simples, I rather have books separated from minis. Books increase the price of the box sets and "invalidate" multiple box investment.
I would rather have say another unit added to the box rather than a dex.

The bikes aren’t all that tough either. In the Battle Report, one is killed by three unsaved Lasgun wounds.
The Lasguns were on a 5+ to wound (meaning T4 or T5), and the save was 4+. Given three wounds killed one, W3 it is.
They do however have Autocannon, S5 Bolt Shotguns (I’ll never tire of typing that word!), but as ever they somewhat skimmed over the details.
Also….the Guard were at -1 to hit, but I can’t recall, and can’t be bothered to check, if that was a Native Modiifer, or one activated by Stratagem.

The now-confirmed codex schedule means it's possible that this rumour has legs after all. We'll need to wait and see what the contents of the next KT box are, that should be revealed in around a month or so.

Completely wrong on the Kill Team teams. Everything else is Educated Guess, despite not knowing when Daemons were coming, which seems…very odd.

Really love all the Votann stuff - the characters and the COG robots are great. The Sagitaur was a bit hit with me so I really like the Land Fortress. I'm glad its not huge as it means you can field a couple without looking like a prick.
The new Horus sculpt looks very good, not heresy fan, but it looks like a great model.
Brodd looks great, the Ogre looks great.. chaos can burn in hell [but nice models].
I was here for the Squats so its nice to watch one of these things and get a good chunk of something you love for once!

It's referring to the KT box after Votann, likely November. This rumour was also posted the week before GW confirmed that Into The Dark was set on a space hulk.

The real question is, will you be happy to suffer through having it called a BumbleB-17 all the time?

I don't understand all the hate for this. I think it (and it's lil baby brother) is pretty cool, much better than the silly Necromunda container buggy-train they released a few months ago.
In my opinion it just sounds silly having it named an anything fortress. It has wheels, and not very large or sturdy looking ones either. It looks unduly tall. It looks more like a bus or RV than a tank.
On general appearance, the layered individual plates don't make it seem very durable. It just looks like half of it is squishy parts that broke out of a Land Raider hull that's still sticking to its back like a turtle shell, offering unnecessary weak spots a plain Land Raider doesn't have.
With no knowledge of 40k, if you put this and a Baneblade next to each other and asked me which one is the Land Fortress, I'd pick the Baneblade.

I mean yes, a Baneblade is a mighty beast, but then it is a super heavy. I would have preferred the Land Fortress to be also a superheavy and much more brutal looking.
But that's not the Votann look I guess. I don't think it looks too bad, having stared at it a bit more. I think it looks like a heavily armoured beetle.
I think this profile of it looks better, looks a lot thiccer at this angle. I would have liked the wheels to be a lot bigger, kind of like the Assault Derrick from Gears of War 2.

Im usually not into big kits or vehicles but the design on the fortress and buggy is freaking awesome.
I can see the frame be turned into awesome dropships or even the hammer head we have seen on the concept art before.

what do you think the odds are that well get a helmet option for all of those unhelmeted votann?
Kid K wants to put wings on the land fortress, i want to put big crawler legs on it
reminds me of a spider tank if there are any destiny fans amongst us.

The Battle Report infantry models are suggestive most if not all will have helmet options.

I find the fortress and buggy make a lot more visual sense if you look at the dark green panels as bolted on armor panels to increase combat capabilities of what were originally STC exploration vehicles.

I remember those from back in the day too and I've only now just noticed that they have bare legs and feet. They still have kneepads, though, because they are presumably most at risk of the kind of injuries a skateboarder would need to worry about. I mean... at some point in the process surely the sculptor would have taken a step back and questioned just how cool that actually looked, even if this was the 1990s and you couldn't just flick something away in CAD in a second?

To be fair, the big votan vehicle might be bigger than it appears on first glance due to the similarity to the little buggy. It is a bit of a letdown that the new box doesn’t contain a propper vehicle but just the bikes because the latter one are my least favourite model from the range so far
As for Nova reveals: The Khorne Berserker lack some distinct features that set them apart from basic CSM. My Khorne marked Legionairies look more like Zerkers than Zerker themself. I hope that other units will look more distinct. But I am a bit afraid of upcoming reveals.

Nope. This rumor was out *BEFORE* Into the Dark was revealed (and we probably are not getting another Kill Team box this year, they release them roughly every 3 months (usually slightly longer intervals than that), with Into the Dark coming in September, the next release window would be December - unlikely that they actually release it then instead of waiting until January). Thats why the rest of us have dismissed the rumor, because within a few weeks of this being posted we knew it was wrong when Into the Dark was finally revealed and there were neither Kasrkin nor Genestealers in it.
All of this was basically educated guessing, at that point we had been seeing Votann for a while and some people thought they were going to release earlier in the summer, we knew that the next kill team box would be in a space hulk or whatever but didn't know what would be in it (and people saw the Kasrkin bases and assumed that was a sign), and the leaks prompted GW to show off a full range of new guard minis which lead folks to believe that they would come before World Eaters because at that point we had only seen renders of World Eaters weapons, Angron coming with it was an obvious gimme. The Space Marines 2.0 thing has been a constant drum people have been beating on, its been the "next codex" since basically January, and the Nids v Marines thing was regurgitation of another rumor from another source that was itself debunked.
Then the daemons thing - they are the next codex up, theres no way the poster knows all about whats going on with Votann, Kill Team, Guard, World Eaters, SM2.0, and the 10th edition launch but had no idea that Daemons were the next book to release and had to CYA with "they'll probably be out before SM2.0".

Not completely wrong on the kill team box. Remember that we've already had Kasrkin confirmed for kill team (they're clearly on kill team bases in the preview images) so the most likely answer here is that the leaker was correct about the contents of the box at the time they got the information but at some later point GW changed the release order. That kind of thing happens for various reasons, I put way more credibility in accurately leaking the Kasrkin team than correctly predicting a release order that is always subject to change.

Gw want to make the best models. This means details and dynamic posing on models that look as realistic as possible. The only way this is possible whilst still keeping the models looking smooth and natural (no visible joins, weird scaling etc), and also keeping them builder friendly for younger folks is by making them in these odd configurations which only fit together one way. In my opinion, even if you make them all stock from the box this way you're still getting more variety in how they look than one of the old boxes of marines where yes, everything can indeed be swapped but you have a ball joint on the waist and 2 flat panels to stick arms to, the arms holding bolters look weird and unnatural, and so do the cc weapon arms which are all either weirdly straight or at right angles. What do you want them to do? If you want different poses to the stock ones, then learn to convert. It's always been this way, just now we have way better models to do it with.
