DAKKACON: PHILADELPHIA
++++++++++++++++++
Hot on the heels of Games Day North America, I decided to pitch the idea of a Dakka Meet and Greet to the DCM Forum. That idea grew to become DakkaCon: Philadelphia, a mostly social event with some gaming and hobby thrown in for good measure! There will be lots to do, and even if you're not up for any of the formal events, there is always getting the chance to play a random game against a new friend or two.
When: January 21st, 22nd, and 23rd 2011
Where: Showcase Comics Battle Bunker
Why: To game, meet new people, have a great time!
What: 40k Mini Campaign, Fantasy Mini Campaign, Speed Painting Contest, Dakka Painting Challenge: Bretonnia, Raffle Prize, Open Hobby, Open Gaming
How Much: Free Entry, $5 for each organized event you wish to play/compete in that will go toward purchasing prizes. Open Gaming/Hobby is Free!
So save the date, come out and have fun!
Event rules are posted below.
Side Note: DCM's have priority for any event with limited availability, pre-registered events only. All slots the day of are first come first served.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Wanting something with a little more bite? Empchild is planning on running a tournament January 23rd, that will feed your competition needs!

Fantasy Mini-Campaign Rules (via RITides)
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Day: January 22nd
Fantasy warbands:
-Limit 500 points, Rulebook percentages apply
-No Lords. Heroes are OK, but not mandatory- if not taking a hero, you must upgrade a unit champion and designate them as your general (they still must remain with their unit, but other units can use that model's leadership as if it were the general).
-If using a unit champion as your army's general, you cannot take a BSB or any other character.
-Only 50 points are earned for slaying the enemy general. Captured banners still give 25 points.
-Limit 1 Monster OR 1 Warmachine (not both) per army. 2-for-1 monster/warmachines are not allowed, only a single model is allowed
-Winds of magic are generated by rolling a single dice. The casting player gets the value of the dice ( d6) for PD while the defending player gets the value of the roll as if it was a d3 for DD
-For spells with a "large" and "small" version, only the small version is in play
Army specific FAQs:
-Brettonians do not need to take characters for a general and BSB, even though their army book requires them to. For the purposes of this warbands campaign, they can do like every other army book, and simply upgrade a unit champion to be their general if they prefer, and do not have to take a BSB.
PM RiTides if you have an army-specific question
Scenarios and Battle Map:
Custom scenarios are forthcoming as the event gets closer! This section will be fleshed out with more details soon, so keep checking back
Each battle will take place on a map that will be at the event, so that we can keep track of the larger "war" going on, and have each "side" (good vs. evil, approximately) going for larger objectives.
The first round will be random, but afterwards your "team" (good or evil) will be able to discuss what army you would like to battle in which part of the map, or possibly against which opponent, etc. Most likely the current losing side will get more of the choices here.
At least one of the missions will be an assassin-type mission, aiming to kill a single model in the enemy army. There will probably also be an attacker / defender mission, perhaps for a strategic point on the map. There will also likely be cumulative effects from the previous battle on each army (not enough to cripple or overpower an army, just something to make things interesting and make a win worthwhile).
We're hoping these games can be done in 1-1.5 hours to make them fast and fun . Also, the larger strategy of positioning your team's armies on the map should make for a fun team atmosphere so that we can get to know each other and work together, even though each battle is 1on1

40k Mini Campaign
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Day: January 22nd
ARMY LIMITATIONS
Each player will need an army that conforms to the rules below:
• Armies are no more than 500 points.
• The Warhammer 40,000 5th Edition Rules will be used.
• You must have one Troop choice.
• You may have one HQ choice, but no more than one
• Armies are not required to take mandatory unit choices. All other unit restrictions (i.e. 0-1) apply.
• You may spend remaining points from anywhere in the Codex.
• No model can have more than 2 Wounds.
• No model can have a 2+ save.
• No Special/Unique/Named Characters are allowed in the Campaign event.
• No vehicles with a total Armour value greater than 33. This is calculated by adding the Front, Side and Rear armour numbers. (Only count the Side once).
• The 'What You See Is What You Get' ( WYSIWYG) rule is in effect. That means all units must be easily identifiable as the particular codex choice they represent and that any and all weapons/options taken for a unit must be clearly represented on the model(s).
COMMANDERS
As you might not pick an HQ choice, the patrol should still have a commander who gives the orders and against which Leadership tests are made. This, of course, would be the most senior ranking figure. In the case of two figures being of an equal rank then the player may choose which is the patrol's leader, and only that figure may confer its Leadership bonus to friendly squads.
SCENARIOS
Missions will be pulled from the Battle Missions book.
Missions represent territory on a map, and territory will be important toward determining various bonuses and selection of attack/defenses! More on that the day of the event!
Battle Points for each match will be awarded as follows:
• Win = 15 points
• Draw = 8 points
• Loss = 3 points
AWARDS
• Sector General: The player of the winning team who finished with the highest number of battle points based on the conditions of the individual games.
• Artisan: The player who receives the most votes for best painted combat patrol.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This time, it's LIVE!
The Rules:
1.) Abide by the spirit and guidelines of the Challenge presented.
2.) Paint your model!
4.) Show up to Dakkacon: Philadelphia!
5.) Pony up the $5 Organized Event entry fee and get your model in by 12:00 (Noon), on January 22nd (Saturday).
6.) Everyone attending Dakkacon: Philadelphia will be allowed one vote.
7.) Prizes will be awarded for the TOP 3 models with the most votes.
Notes: Unlike other challenges, I'm actively encouraging you to post your progress here on Dakka and get as much feedback as possible!
Entry fees go directly to prize support.
All Users are Eligible!
[b]
The Prize:
The Winners Recieve: Dakka Bragging rights, A Dakka front page announcement of your glorious victory, the respect from your fellow modelers, and prizes yet to be determined!
The Challenge
Dakka Knights
For Bretonnia! For Dakka!
Heed the call to arms! For the march to war is a valiant one! Together we shall crush those who stand in our way! Under the hooves of our mighty steeds they shall be trampled! At the tip of our lance shall they feel the cold bite of death! To arms brothers! To victory!
There is a beautiful individuality that can be seen with any Bretonnian force. That exact trait is what drove the choice of Bretonnian Knights as the subject matter for the first in person Dakka Painting Challenge! The more outrageous, the more subdued, the more realistic you can make your knight, the more personal it will become, creating an avatar wholly unique. It's a battle of the brush, one that will only end in glorious defeat of your opponents! Are you up for the challenge?
The Deadline: January 22nd, 2011 12:00 Eastern
Challenge Rules:
Model must be a single Bretonnian Knight model. Conversions are acceptable. The model must be based on a 25x50mm base (the standard base that comes with most knights for the army). Scenic bases are allowed, but must conform to this basing size.
If you have ANY questions regarding the competition, please feel free to ask here or email DakkaPaintingChallenge@dakkadakka.com!!
As the first in person Dakka Painting Challenge, this event will set the precedent for future contests! Create something amazing! Set the bar high!
Happy Painting!

Maybe name tags with handle and real name slots are in order...

Actually, I'm reminded that I'm seeking redemption against a certain Mr. RiTides who sold me crappy dice right before our last encounter. Tricky git.

QFT. I'm looking forward to having a big ol' Warhammer gathering close to home, and being able to get more experience and playtime with folks from online. Doubt I'll take place in any of the organized events, but I'll certainly be looking to get in as many casual games as possible.

Good luck to all involved - although I missed Platinum Devil, those who went assure me it was a good day and I've had some great feedback about Silver Sorcerer. In the UK, at least, when dakka members get together a good time seems to be had (and much alcohol consumed ) by all. Hope you all have a great time, best wishes from across the pond, C_C EDIT - dang double posts...

Bah, once i actually read the WHFB rules and try my first game, you couple of sissy's is history! Looking forward to your griffon spam, alpharius... or should I call you... CAPTAIN CAMEMBERT!
And yes, the current Lady Stompa has an interest in playing tyranids. Not sold her on a fantasy race yet, perhaps she might like skaven or night goblins.

Right across from the street from the mall. Stumpbling distance from the bar, or they'll send a shuttle for you. 15 minutes from the Philly airport with shuttle service. 75.00 a night if you mention you want the "Granite Run Mall" rate. Newly renovated and decent. Denny's right next to it for food.

I know Jin and I will each be making up new armies for the 500 point fantasy campaign, and are busily debating back and forth about what to take
I'll probably make the drive back to MD Saturday night, pretty much a lightweight drinker here... but I won't mind watching others get to the point of needing to be within "stumbling distance" of their accomodations for the night

Hmm. Looking at the rules for the 500 point mini campaigns, I might just have to work on building a list for it. If I did the Fantasy one it'd be a great way to get myself motivated to pick up some more Lizardmen models and get them built/painted. Granted, I'd have to get in at least a few games before I took part, but it sounds like it'd be a fun thing to take part in.

At 500 points, things are pretty simple, and we can always coach you through even if you've only got a game or two of fantasy under your belt

I'm mulling over what to put together for a WFB warband.
I'm considering making a Counts-As Lizardmen army based on Goblin Cult of the Great Cave Squig (counts as stegadon).
Or a warband of My Little Chaos Ponies.
Or something else that's equally silly/wacky.

Of course, I'll probably try to get a full 40K army ready for then too, "just in case"!

Yeah, I think I might go ahead and pick up some LM models to make my little force from. Went ahead and came up with an idea for it last night before bed, so just need to get the models and get to painting/building. And I HAVE to make sure to get myself motivated to paint to avoid making my LM suffer the same fate as my orks! (Fully built and playable, about... maybe 5% painted?)

Jin wrote:I'm considering making a Counts-As Lizardmen army based on Goblin Cult of the Great Cave Squig (counts as stegadon).
Is there another monster that can be jammed into 500 points? I think steg might be the only one because it's a special slot so has 250 points available, whilst most other monsters are rares / heroes so jammed into 150 ... Giant squig sounds groovy to me - Salvage
9594
Post by: RiTides
Yes, I think it'd be the special stegadon he's thinking of counting it as. Besdies, only one monster on the table anyway (in the rules) just in case someone, somewhere figures out how to fit in several . Wouldn't really be in the spirit of the campaign, though!
Still mulling my options, I'd like to do something really off-the-wall for this! And different from my other armies (trees, and starting trolls)
Will also be posting the rules in the fantasy section to get more feedback . Already saw one thing that needs fixing- VPs should be calculated for each model lost, instead of whole units... otherwise, we might get some 0-0 games!

Updated the post to include the full weekend for event planning.
Friday as it stands will likely be an open night of gaming, meet and greet, and set up for Saturday.
Saturday will host most of the currently planned events.
Sunday will likely see a tournament of some sort, still waiting on 100% confirmation on this though.
I've been rather busy with classes so I haven't had much time to settle in with anything and solidify things further, but overall Saturday is going to be nice and full.
If you have an idea for a game you'd like to play, post! There is also likely to be a lot of open gaming going on, so bring what you want! Space Hulk, BFG, Mordheim, Hordes, Warmachine, Epic, whatever you want!! If you can bring two forces for any given game, as I'm sure if no one else has an army, they'd be more than happy to learn a new game!
That might be a cool idea, game demos!

Would really love to make it out to this, but it's a long haul from Tejas, and I've got an awful lot of unknowns still pending about early 2011. Definitely keeping this on the radar- a great excuse for so many of those little army ideas rolling around in my head...

Well, as of now I have the green light to go. For those of you interested in trying Battlefleet Gothic, I will be bringing my BFG stuff (I've got 4 fleets of around 2,000 points each), and I would definitely be interested in the 40k game. Hopefully by then I'll have my FOW Blitzkrieg army all painted up and ready to go, too. My Axis & Allies War At Sea stuff doesn't take up much room, so that seems like a gimmie. And, just in case there is any interest, I'll have my Firestorm Armada gear on hot stand-by .
Finally, I will be lugging along my copy of the Horus Heresy board game...that should be fun!

Not yet, but I'd been intending on getting into the game for quite a while now. I have the 1st Edition rulebook, it seems like a pretty straightforward and moderately elegant system.
Was gonna try to get a demo game with Catyrpelius at Warstore Weekend.

Jin, it just so happens, that NJ Gamer, the group I'm running the Malifaux event with at the Warstore Weekend, is putting on a last fleet standing mega battle, as well as demos.
Your more then welcome to use my Iron Dwarfs for the mega battle, there will be prizes.....
I'm going to be bringing several Uncharted Seas fleets with me to the Dakkacon, as well as Firestorm Armada, as well as many other games, so I can do some demos if there is intrest.
Come on out to the Warstore Weekend and meet some of the other guys from NJ Gamer!

@Catyr - Sounds like fun. As of right now, I'm fulling intending on hitting up the Saturday of the Warstore Weekend so I'll definitely swing by the NJ Gamer area (been hearing too much about Malifaux to not give it a whirl too). Will probably end up picking up a Thaniras fleet there.

I'm holding a Malifaux tournement on saturday at 11. If you want I can plan on being there earlier on saturday to give you a quick demo so you can play in the tournement. Or if you can get there sometime on Friday...
NJ Gamer has been putting massive amounts of work into the terrain for the events we are sponsering, so it should be a good time.
Thaniras have some amazingly powerful cards, some of them scare me...

They are great games, I'll probably be bringing my Iron Dwarfs, Imperial Navy, Dragon Lords, and if they release in time the Sky Pirates!

Erhm... why yes, yes of course!
Suggestions welcome from yourself, since I believe you may know of more loopholes than I do! I just got back from visiting the in-laws today, but was planning to post up a revised version of the rules by the weekend. Feel free to PM or post here as to any loopholes
As to the unit champion thing- was still going to allow it (in case anyone has planned for it), but I haven't seen anyone taking advantage of it yet in lists posted. 3 unit minimum... good point! Will also make sure to add that, I believe it is reasonable to keep that restriction even at 500 points.

Post by: Wehrkind
I dunno, I think 2 unit min (not counting character) might not be a bad idea. I don't know about other armies, but cramming 3 units and an Exalted into 500 for WoC has been tough. I am planning on Exalted champ and 2 30 man marauder units with a 10 girl naked marauder unit to prance around and be filler. I don't know what others are looking at, but I would imagine not too many can squeeze in enough fun at 500 points. Of course, maybe that is the point... :-P

I'd keep the 3 unit min myself, since the hero requirement has basically been dropped. I wouldn't mind if all units counted for this though, as the "does not count towards core" deal is pretty lame and feels like a hanger on from 7th. But then both of my possible armies (ogres & WoC) benefit from this, so I'm not totally impartial It's your call RT. I think there's something to be said for giving two of the most elite armies out there a leg up for a little more variety in lists; but then also for making them spread their points around and not just grab a couple 30 point hounds and then invest the rest in character / warrior brick of mini-doooooom. - Salvage

Since there is at least one person who was planning on bringing only 2 units (we're looking at you, Jin ) I think it is only fair to make it a 2 unit minimum.

Our local canteen is full of supplies). We held this down at Ruby Tuesdays one night after the first 3 games of a GT. Entry fee was buying 3 drinks at the bar. I had a box of old plastic figures from early GW, Space Crusade, Heroquest, etc all primered up. A jar of bad paintbrushes, and a big tub of paint pots. We sat around a big table till 2 am painting some rather interesting stuff.
I used Scooters drink as a wash several times, just dipping in the model I was doing. No clue what is was at the time, turned out to be a Games Day Space Wolf. One of the guys down in VA needed it, and I gave it to him at Games Day.

He's decided that WHFB is too lacking in strategy, and has moved on to Go. Plus, the little stones slide around a lot better than metal models
Actually, you are kind of in luck; we got the guest room back together, so you don't have to sleep on the pull out. That's lucky because Mrs Wehrkind has exiled him to the downstairs at night, since he apparently doesn't keep daylight savings time and has been getting up at 530 wanting to eat :( It wasn't a big deal when he weighed 14 ounces, but at 12 pounds it is pretty hard to ignore him jumping around the bed and attacking any random movement.
Speaking of the Great Unclean one, are you bringing your Skaven as well as Ogres, or all three? Even with three of us in the car we should have plenty of room for 4-5 army carriers (we took what, 6 to games day?) so don't worry about that.

For the 500 40k event is it combat patrol format? What about pskers are they allowable? Will it be played on a 4x4 or full table?

Just finished converting the regular Skinks I got into Chameleons, and started priming everything - I'm planning on having everything 100% painted before Christmas! I'm getting really stoked for this. Probably gonna try and hit up the Bryn Mawr Showcase tomorrow for a few short games of Fantasy to test my warband out, see how they perform.

I have submitted the base blueprints for an Apoc type scenario for this event, if enough people get behind it(i.e want to play an Apoc game at the event and let me know soon so I can get the plan in motion), I would be happy to provide more info!

the amount of "fluffiness" will be entirely dependent on what teams are formed and the earlier I get team info the 'better'.
Sageheart wrote:

5k points per team, max of 4 players each team is what I currently have planned for the scenario, that number will obviously flux on demand (keep in mind, this is a multi team apoc game, so 5k is not really a small number all things considered)

For the schedule, did you want the fantasy warbands to run at the same time as the 40k ones, or a separate time?
I was thinking 4 rounds at 45 minutes each, so just the morning or just part of the afternoon needed.
21593
Post by: DiscoVader
I think it would be good to have the warband games at separate times, since I have no doubt there will be some people that would like to partake in both. That kind of a schedule (45 minutes per game, 4 rounds) seems like it'd be a great set-up, since it'd only take about 4 hours to get through a mini-tournament, we'd have about 15 minutes between games to switch tables/get set back up/chat with other Dakkites, and people would be able to participate in both. Only problem I can see is that some people might show up late or miss their bus/train/whatever, but that's something that might happen anyway.

So 1,250 points for eah player, for a total of 5k for each side? that seems like fun.
I would be very down, I could bring IG, Orks, or BA.

Dakkapocalypse
Scenario Rules
Player limit: 20 (4 MAX per team)
Team limit 10 (Preferable 5-8 teams) Each Team gets 5000 points.
~Teams share access to each other’s Transports (normal rules for dedicated apply, see Apocalypse rulebook for details on Super heavy transports), “Friendly” Benefits (unless stated otherwise), and certain assets.
~All Apocalypse Datasheets (from Apoc, Apoc reload, IA Apoc 1, IA Apoc2, GW Online) are legal. The Apoc Rules appendix found in IAA2 will be applied.
~THE MOST RECENT profile for an entry is what is used (if something is in a Codex, example, the Valkyrie, us the Codex profile instead of the Datasheet)
~All teams (include which player is bringing what units in the list) must submit their lists NLT Jan 10.
~Certain Strategic Assets will be banned/limited (full list coming soon)
~You may only take ONE of each strategic asset per TEAM (not counting Formations)
~No team may BUY (using points) more than 3 additional Strategic assets
~No single player may have more than 60% or less then 15% of their team’s total points.
~“Counts as” and Scratch built models are permitted, however it is advised that you contact the SO if you have any concerns about your model, as ‘exaggerated’ modeling is unpermitted. (Using a normal LoC as the daemon lord or using a 5ft tall model as a Warhound scout titan are examples of what NOT to do)
~Each Team is limited to 5 different armies TOTAL (You may only take Army Specific strategic assets from your top 3 armies)
Banned SAs, legendaries, Formations: TBA (List by Dec 20, feel free to submit any suggestions before/after this date)
~No team may have more than 3 “Titans” (Super heavies with MORE than 3 structure points(or any sort of “shields(Void, titan-holo, Force)” / Gargantuan Creatures) total. No single model may cost more than 1000 points.
~The allies matrix is NOT in effect. (Any combination of races is permitted)
~“Destroyer” weapons will be limited. (Exact limitations coming soon)
~There will be a scenario specific FAQ for this event, please feel free to submit specific rules questions to the SO.
~“Void”-weaponry is NOT permitted (with the exception of 1 void grenade asset per team, formations COUNT towards this limit)
Scenario Specifics:
Game will begin promptly when the day’s events start. Game will continue until days end or victory has been achieved.
There are 3 objectives that are equal in “priority”:
Base Defense: Each team will have a piece of terrain (you may custom make it if you like, it should be a circle 5” in diameter, 5 inches tall) that is their respective “base” (be it a supply silo, energy generator, chaos temple, or whatever it may be). The “terrain” is considered impassible and may not be occupied at all (even by things that can normally land on top of impassible terrain!). it has an AV of 14/14/14 and 3 structure points (at the cost of 250 points each, your team may increase its structure points to a total of 6, this does not count as a “titan” if you do so), the terrain may be obscured, but cannot gain an invulnerable save (from things such as Chaos temple, etc) and they are COMPLETELY IMMUNE to both friendly and enemy psychic powers. These pieces of terrain have the “Reactor Meltdown” special rule. They MAY NOT do a “damage control” roll. Bases automatically reduce “Destroyer” weapons to str 10, ignore lance weaponries special rule, and never allow more then 1D6 to be rolled for armor penetration. They also apply -1 to the Vehicle Damage Table result. The base may not be the target of any friendly strategic assets and ignores any effects of friendly strategic assets (Including ‘Force Field’).
The base counts as a 2 objective points that can only be held by its controlling team (and is automatically held, no surrounding units are required) if it survives at the end of battle. If destroyed, the team which destroys the base receives d3 objective points and the wreckage becomes a standard objective that can ONLY be held by enemy teams and the controlling team suffers -1 objective point at the games end. (The controlling team may not hold the objective, but they may contest it)
Landmarks: There will be 5 objectives (that follow the standard rules for scoring in the 5th edition rulebook) placed on the board that will be assigned d3 points each objective at the END of the game. If at any time all 5 landmarks are held by a single team for 1 entire game turn (after all teams have gone and the “holding” team finishes its turn, must be game turn 2 or later) the game ends. Your team may mark any of these objectives as “Vital” objectives if you so choose, you must mark which on a separate piece of paper to be submitted to the SO at game start.
Semi-Annihilation: Once 75% of the units on the field have been destroyed, the game is called via the standard rules for “annihilation” and the team that ‘triggers’ this event immediately gains 3 objective points (in addition to any they may score in the game). Any team that has suffered 75% losses receives -1 Objective point; any team that has been completely annihilated suffers -2 Objective points.
As you can see, it is completely possible for a team which gets completely annihilated to still come in first place (however, it will be difficult!). The standard apoc game type is obviously being suspended for this scenario (no d6 objectives or whatnot) and there will be a “hidden tie-breaker” if such an event were to occur.
Cost of Scenario: 25$ per team + Bonus Pool (optional)
Prizes:
1st place: Every member of the team gets 1 year DCM status on Dakka! + 2 Sets of Dakka-Dice each (your choice of color, availability may vary) + 50% of Bonus Pool! (if your team contributed)
(Assuming game is full)
2nd Place: Every Member of the team gets 1 year DCM status on Dakka! + 25% of Bonus pool! (if your team contributed)
3rd Place: Each member of the team will receive 1 set of Dakka-Dice (your choice of color, availability may vary) and 10% of Bonus pool! (If your team contributed)
Prizes are funded by Daemon-Archon Ren/Scenario Costs/ bonus pool cut. If prize cost < Funds generated by scenario costs/bonus pool/donations [ ] remaining money will be divided amongst any players that have not yet already received a prize.
If Demand allows, multiple instances of this scenario may be present.
Like all other events, seats are distributed on a 1st Come 1st Serve basis with a preference to DCM, if for any reason, you cannot make the event after reserving a slot, please contact Daemon-Archon Ren ASAP!
For any questions/concerns, please feel free to contact Daemon-Archon Ren via PM, by email (MCCORMM@ONR.NAVY.MIL or FyreMaxxCristuFiryoshiN@gmail.com ), by Skype/AIM (IAMFMCF), or other method (Phone number available by request)!

Something along those lines, does that sound at all interesting to Dakka?

Post by: Sageheart
that type of apoc game sounds great. As for prizes I would rather see something different than money, such as models, maybe something painted by someone, but that could be hard to find haha. Maybe each player has to give a model and the winning places get a certain numberof these models! that would be interesting.
I also never knew dakkadakka dice were made.
overall the apoc game sounds great! I'll try to show up for it!

Sageheart wrote:that type of apoc game sounds great. As for prizes I would rather see something different than money
The cash pool is COMPLETELY optional, and kinda a way for people to potentially play for free (if say, enought teams contribute to the pool, the first place team will probably make their money back, and as stated, if the "funds" outweight the "prize costs" money will be refunded to the teams in the most appropriate method availible) the main prize would be the DCM status thing (also the 25$ per TEAM ((not player)) is only 5$ more then the standard event fee, if you have a 4 man team).
Depending on the turnout/"pre-reg" I may make the prize pool something a little more solid (for example, a "Fortress of Redemption" for the winning team to take home to their gaming group) the only problem I foresee with solid prizes like this would be if a team is forming via "on-line friends" and the potential difficulties with deciding "who gets the model", if that is easily avoidable, I think I can manage dipping a bit deeper into the wallet for better prize support!
Again, it all comes down to who pre-regs/confirms they are coming and how quickly they decide to!
So get the PMs rolling if you already have a team/list, I know there isn't really a full list of "whats restricted"(or an FAQ) but I do promise that if you send in your lists ahead of time, I will let you know (if) any complications arise!
The earlier the better, and my PM box is wide open!
Send in today!

So, looks like I might be bringing some WoC to play with as well as my Lizardmen (though not in the min-tournament!) One of my girlfriend's friends wanted to get rid of her WoC stuff, and gave the following, all built and partially painted, though I'll be going back and repainting them:
Archaon, the Everchosen
Chaos Sorcerer with Familiar
12 Chaos Warriors, Full Command, with Shields
12 Chaos Warriors, Full Command, with 2 Hand Weapons
5 Chaos Knights
Chaos Chariot
Warpstone Meteor terrain
Ruins terrain
Watchtower
and all for just 2 pots of paint that I bought her tonight.
I love having friends that don't want their things anymore.

Yes, glad it's not this week with all the snow we just had!
Also, make sure you come on time Saturday morning if you're doing the fantasy mini-campaign, fellas! We're up to bat first and I think the 40k mini-campaign will happen after so we gotta try to start rolling dice by 10 (so arrival between 9 - 9:30).

Post by: Wehrkind
Sounds good! I should have the 2000 list painted by this Friday, and might finish the shrine and sorchimera in time for Dakkacon. Or I might just properly do the bases of the 2000 point lads :-P
Getting up in time to get there by 930 sounds a lot like work... but I will see what I and a half gallon of coffee can do
9594
Post by: RiTides
Well, we could move the start time, but I figure it's better to get going early, and shoot to have the fantasy mini-campaign done by around lunch. That way we can all try out our larger armies in pick-up games afterwards, or do the 40k mini-campaign for people who play both systems.
Also, grey_death wants to participate in the fantasy one and is running the 40k one... so we gots to get steppin' so that he'll have time for both!

Post by: Wehrkind
Yea that will be fine, I am just kvetching We will be there bright and early. Classes are going to have me in the "get up and out the door by 830" mind set anyway, and no matter how groggy and reeking of girly drink booze Salvage and I are, we will be there! Mrs Wehrkind might give it a miss until Sunday though.

SO EARLY Naw, is all good, means more time for some nice games of Laidbackhammer afterward So since I'm apparently coming down Sunday too (originally I was racing back North to prep for class the next morning, but now my week begins on Tuesday), is there still a tournament* happening? Or was that only 40k? - Salvage *Ironically, there are (unrelated) 2500 point fantasy tournaments happening in Albany on both the 22nd and the 23rd

I think it boils down to: Hang out on Friday evening (Ruby Tuesdays) if you can make it!
Then Saturday:
Morning, Fantasy warbands starts (rolling dice by 10 a.m., arrive by 9-9:30)
After lunch, 40k mini-campaign, open gaming for fantasy.
Later on, probably some craziness, board games possibly, or going to find cheesesteaks (this is what I'm hoping for ).
Sunday there is a 40k RTT, and I know Jin and Boss_Salvage will be sticking around for some fantasy open gaming. I don't think I'll be gaming Sunday, will probably be seeing the Philly sites with the wife, who is generously tolerating lots of wargaming this weekend
958

The RTT is actually on Sunday, that way folks can get in all the open gaming, and some that want to stay over can play in an RTT before heading home. Alex from Boston Brawl is running the RTT.

If anyone's up for it, I'll likely be down for most of the day on Friday with my Fantasy stuff - I'd love to get in some small games with folks. I'll most likely have my Orks with me on Friday as well, but I'm not entirely sure.

It seems like there will be a decent turn out so I just want to make sure there will be some breathing room lol.
There's a "bunker" in the mall as well, with plenty of space. Mike is even able to put tables in the courtyard space in front of the bunker when needed, but I think we will be fine with just the ones in the store.
So, definitely enough space!!
I'll be looking for fantasy pick-up games once the warbands are done, too, although warbands could go as late as 2:00 (that is the Absolute latest they will run, though!) if we take 1 hour per round. I imagine we can do less, though (that hour is counting time between game and everything, total time).

Oo, just so you all know I am waiting till friday morning to see what happens with the weather as they are saying it's another storm just as bad as the one we just had here in Mass. If it is then I won't risk the 5 1/2 hour drive. Right now I am praying that the weathermen are wrong on this one.

Plus side for Salvage and I, most of our driving will be on the turnpike, so as long as he can survive to my door the Immolator can power down on reasonably cleared roads.

Boo, they're calling for 3-5" of snow around NYC by tomorrow afternoon.
Hrm. Only 2.5 hours away, though, and I _do_ have hotel reservations....I might just suck it up and just drive a bit slower/carefully.
Edit: Weather.com seems to think it'll only be 1" in NYC with ~1" in Philly....hopefully weather.com's more accurate.

I have a hotel res too, but saddly 5 1/2 makes snow/rain a dangerous drive. The mass pike alone is dangerous _.

Dangerous enough in _good_ weather .

To all those complaining about the weather and the drive take a minuet and think about 1944 , and then Come to the best Dakkacon ever!
Admirable as the sentiment might be, please bear in mind what is and isn't acceptable language on the site when posting pictures please. Thanks.

I don't think there are enough Dakkites to storm the beaches at Normandy, let alone in the NE USA I drove to Cold Wars 3 years ago in that blizzard, but even I questioned the wisdom there after nearly losing it on the off ramp.
So be careful people, but keep in mind that this will now be the third storm this year, so the snow crews will be warmed up and there is still salt on the road, etc. It should be bad, but I would leave early before the storm if possible. Hell, if you crash in Allentown (for the night or otherwise) we can grab dinner together Friday then make the trek to Media the next day

Exactly! Maybe if the weather's too tough on Friday some people can wait it out and still head up on Saturday (and so not lose out on both of your hotel night reservations).
Hope you can make it, Salvage/EmpChild!! Jin, I'm assuming you're coming . Also, if anyone really is in a pickle driving there's also the train... I wouldn't mind picking someone up. But I don't know if they're equally affected by snow or not. A better bet might be driving Saturday morning if it's passed through, or trying to beat the worst on Friday... or waiting till it's cleared Friday. All depends on when it's hitting!

As per the weather I am sitting and hopping but like I always say better safe then sorry. If when I wake up tomorrow and theirs no snow then I will kick off the morning drive, if their is then I will hop on the phone and cancel my reservation.

Work :( it seems my phone is never off for long as I just spent the last 40 some odd minutes talking with some people about plans for the Boston Brawl, and now I am sending out emails to my employees and sculptors about our product lines.....ooo and my coffee pot is always near bye _.

Most of the snow here around Allentown looks poised to strike tonight overnight, so probably will be cleared out by Friday morning commuting time. At least enough to be fine by lunch. It isn't freezing now either, so the ground will be thawed and will help the melt.

What time does the 40k mini campaign start on saturday?
9594
Post by: RiTides
Yes, most of the precipitation is going north of us down here; they've just cleared the forecast down to 0-1 inches, and it'll be done coming down by early Fri morning.
Daggermaw, my guess would be around 2pm when the fantasy mini campaign wraps up! grey_death is the man with the answers on this one

3am, there's a bit of snow up here, and I just finished up a huge pot of Black Squig Surprise for lunch on Saturday.
2 lbs of beans (red this time).
2 lbs of Jimmy Dean sausage, cooked up and chopped into chunks.
3 chopped onions
peppers of various colors,
big can of crushed tomatoes
Secret Spices! This time it's a lot of Chilie Powder, Paprika, Crushed Red Pepper, Cumin, Cinamon and other stuff I forget the name of.
Throw in a large crockpot with lots of water, and cook on low heat for 1-2 days. Gets a lot hotter as it cooks. Add some cayenne at the end of you need a good kick to it.
I usually serve it with rice, but goes over biscuits quite well. Automatically Appended Next Post: The Emperor rewards our faith in him! I have managed to guarantee that a representative of the local Soritas chapter will be on hand to sell cookies.

Allentown weather report: Sucked SO hard getting to class this morning at 8. By 10 when I was heading back 78 was clear and dry as a bone, and local roads were not a problem. The Turn Pike and other major roads should be the same, so GAME ONE!
As a side note, I powered through painting and basing etc the last of my army, so I credit the improved conditions to Slaanesh smiling upon my obsessive work.

Last night I began and finished assembly of my entire warband, got this large map of the warhammer world printed and laminated for the campaign (cost a small fortune.. .but totally worth it!), and picked up a couple of cheap button makers to make some "got dakka?" buttons when there's some downtime .
Today I finished the handout for the warbands campaign (attached to this post) and printed out the "got dakka?" circles.
Just gotta head home, pick up the wife, and we'll be on our way! Unfortunately I have to put in a full day's work, so that means leaving work at 5, probably leaving home at 6, and getting up there sometime between 8 and 9 with the traffic. But will see you all soon

Show off. :-P You can be assured that my horde of half naked painted men will be glaring at your grey primed army in disdain. DISDAIN I SAY!!!
Goddamn I am excited!! Automatically Appended Next Post: Just read the mini campaign rules. Look good, just note that I am looking forward to my 2nd and 3rd games of WHFB ever today when Salvage gets here, so you probably don't want me facing GD, DV or whatnot either Put me in the Noob Bracket please!

Got it, Wehrkind . I'm hoping that the more experienced players won't mind playing the less experienced ones to kind of coach them through. If you guys are feeling really confident I might have a few of you play each other in one of the later rounds but it'll be real relaxed so we can make sure there's no matchup where neither player really knows how to play!
The only catch here is depending on the numbers, I was hoping to evenly split the experienced / inexperienced players onto the two different "teams". So hopefully we have enough that that will work out (I think we will). Also, once things get rolling I'm betting that in round 3/4 pretty much anybody could match up, as people will have the hang of the army/format a bit more by then. Will play it by ear and see how everyone's doing somehow while also playing my own game! (Although I'll be sitting out any round we get an odd number of people for)

Sounds good. I am pretty good on the rules from a theory stand point, and maybe by tomorrow I will be feeling pretty good about keeping them all in a line in practice, so don't worry about me too much.
Until we meet on the field, that is... BWAHAHAHAHA!

I just got home from visiting DAKKACON. It was good to catch up with folks but I did not have time to play.
For those who are on the way still, there are a bunch of folks hanging out for open gaming as well as the scheduled events. Drop by if you can.
