^^That was it!! Mine wasn't a station wagon though! I didn't even know they made those! Good grief we could have upped our passenger limit from 13 to 25 at least!
Briancj wrote:Please, I...I just wanted a little extra ketchup for my french fries... don't hate me because I'm purple. And have claws. I'm one of you! ONE OF YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
LOL! that is a real nice one, hybrids are always so cool!
Well I'm pleased von dom like the story (I will definitely write more vic). All I can say is its amazing what you can fit in a Renault Clio hatchback, plus it goes round corners and can parallel park. I wish it had white walls and fins though.
I do need to get me one of those american extra long cars in model form for a genestealer limo.
With the price of oil and all that 'tension' in the middle east we may all end up driving something even smaller than a Clio soon, and run it off methane like in mad max
played it so to speak with a friend of mine while we were on a trip to a larp game... we had to get a whole tent (a yurt) for more than six persons and armor for three into this tiny car that resembles yours....well i sat on the passengers seat beside the driver...unable to move and a big tree trunk seperated the two of us...or...ever went shopping to IKEA? same thing^^
Here's a beautiful Imperial Fist (I think) that I traded with weety for. Nice job weets, going to be a find addition to my Inquisitional Supplemental Forces.
Blimey gitsplitta - you have a much better camera than me - so detailed - what is that white patch under his chin? I'm sure I didn't do that. The base is lovely.
We had something similar to that vic - we had a whole bunch of freshly cut bamboo that was longer than the car so we sort of bent it in all this bamboo under tension pressed up against the boot of the car and the windscreen
It sure was a bit of a mad road trip - I was terrified that the bamboo would snap and shards would fly about. I never thought that the windshied might pop out - as it happens we got to the allotment without any incidents.
Here is the vehicle I will be using for the genestealer limo - it is a Chevrolet Nomad and with a little greenstuff and some paint it will be perfect. I may have to remove the surfboard but I'm sure I will find a use for it.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I would have got something bigger but this was just the right scale and was only 2 quid
Really looking forward to seeing you butcher that chevy, and my my that is some quality freehand on the IF's shin, even with a macro lens - did you do that without a stencil? :O
a bit of tentative progress on the limo and a new little friend - these metal hybrids usually go for a tenner but I scored this little hunchbacked critter for 5.99 so I'm happy - Now I just need a few more at that price.
The limo will be fairly well covered in the skulls and corrosion - maybe with a little bit of "bio-mechanoid" H. R. Giger type stuff if I can master it. I've got skulls down to a fine art now.
That green stuff corrosion is really good - I might steal that technique, if you don't mind I think the car looks perfect for a genestealer ride - it's got exactly the right aesthetic and curves. Can't wait to see what you do with it!
Well just in case you can't guess how I did it - After smoothing very thin layers of GS onto the surface I found a brush with a rounded butt-end and after rubbing a little petroleum jelly on the end I pressed it into the GS (That sentence just feels rude to me somehow, I don't know why).
I think you are right RSjake - The problem with the grill is - the problem with the grill - It has a bloody piece of hard transparent plastic in-front of it and I cant seem to pry it out - so I will have to do some sculpting there- this will be a labour of love.
Not old enough for me neil - I stopped listening to new music after the year 2000 - I think I may have listened to their older stuff and enjoyed it, the name rings a massive bell. I frequently prefer the things without lyrics or with random voice samples when it comes to ambient - darker ambient such as Lull or aphex twin or even a nice bit of Boards of Canada, you may never have heard of them... (such a hipster when it comes to ambient).
I find the slow repetitiveness helps me get into the Craft-zen state of mind

Then you definitely should check out Morcheeba. Though there's a good bit of vocals going on, it's cool mellow stuff.
I was always a fan of Thievery Corporation.
Might also check out Bitter:Sweet or Supreme Beings of Leisure, though the latter can get very animated at times.
the skulls looks really good weety...congratz to your endeavors into GS -ing... and as jake mentioned... my vote is for some big teeth on that front too....or lacking that... some nice dribbly candles? that could even be achieved i think with some bitz?...
the corrosion/infected look of the frint looks awsome...and it is always the simple things that look later the best
There's probably not going to be any photo updates till Saturday sadly - Stupid work colleague is ill so I've gotta do her shifts too. But I only agreed on condition that they wouldn't steal my weekend and I think I might get into a little GS work then.
Sculpting to the strange sounds of Brian Eno and Robert Fripp this morning - Picks are in B&W to give an better idea of what it will look like painted - much more to do, but I'm learning tons about sculpting - using the rounded end of a map pin atm.
Flaky purple was my plan too briancj! Its just the only way (apart from blackish purple maybe).
I think hydraulics are a bit beyond my budget. But because I got this from the toy section I does go forward real fast if you pull it back abit - so if I was playing for reals and got petulant I could say "Hah my limo drives over your gang" then aim, pull back and let go.
was about to say that too git... that genestealer cult icon is showing you should do way more sculpting work for hobby...!!! the car looks splendid! the fact you showed it us in B&W helped to bring along the look so very much!!!
You know given your obvious talent you should consider commission work. Gs is not really too far a step from clay o guess. Just saying; you got game, and while not an untapped market, it's an underdeveloped area thereof. There's a big following for stealer cult parts.
Yep dstein, It shouldn't be too hard to pretend. After all we are already pretending that the tiny little lumps of metal have names and run around shooting each other. No sorry wait that's for reals right?
Inmygravenimage - I think I need to get more tiny tools than just the map pin and then maybe make a hybrid just so I know I can before I start taking monies off peeps. I'm still on a steep learning curve here. Of course if anyone wants a skull or a cult icon they could drop me a PM and I will have a stab at it.
Cheers von dom - I think the black and white is less distracting than the metallic red and lime green! Glad you agree.
Gitsplitta - The "thingie on the roof" comment made me laugh.
girraffex - its sot of half corrossion and half genestealer corruption (I picture it being like some kind of liquid chitin that they drool onto stuff and then it hardens into funky shapes)

Oh, and in other news Space Ork raiding parties have been sighted crossing the ash wastes, they could be here any day now so keep a look out
Aha! I had totally forgotten aboot the teeth. Yes six little rogue trader era Orksies are on the way - only 5 pounds 50 includng postage! Old orks are cheap! One of them appears to be holding an attack squig which is fun.
Another hybrid should be ready for photos after work - and maybe I will continue covering that limo in green sh-t.
Nice work weety, this black and white photos of sculpts thing is really catching on and it makes a lot of sense. I think i'll jump on the cultlimo. Ehh, I mean bandwagon.
Cheers casy's law - It really is the best way to show work in progess without all those distracting colour contrasts that won't be there in the finished piece.
Here is my little pet hybrid - he is such a tiny little hunchback he is almost cute. Almost.
one of these days I need a bigger apartment! I might manage a small diorama but its getting cramped in here what with all our hobbies, enterprises, books, wardrobes, games and DVDs. My flat is whats called a studio flat and isn't really big enough for one acquisitive adult let alone two.
He is ugly in the face scarper - in a cute sort of way - like one of those dogs with the crushed snouts might look if you shaved it and painted it purple.
Cheers RSjake - its one of those universal things that cool people like monty python - only heartless killjoy fascist baby-stabbers don't like a good chuckle now and again. And we don't want them in this thread do we now.
I occasionally meet people who say old comedies like monty, red dwarf and black adder are dated and they just aren't funny any more, but I suspect these people aren't real and are in fact just androids created by the new world order to undermine us and make us watch The Voice.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Furthermore on the subject of old classics I have just purchased The Dark Crystal and the first two seasons of Sliders (whisper it: sliiiideeeerrrs) and so qualify as being successful and happy in life. My boyfriend bought the entire collectors edition of the X-files which I find rather strange considering he thinks aliens, bigfoot and the paranormal are phoney-balony tin-foil-hat fodder. But he enjoys it - it must be the willing suspension of disbelief that does it.
well when first aired i liked the x-fiels... but now whenever i see them while zapping through i can´t help laughing at the show... the look...the horror...XD
and old british humor outdated...??? WTF??... never... the multiverse and eternity have not enough time and space to make that possible...
X-files rocks! And Weety, those people also think that you should be ridiculed because you are smart and have an imagination, it's a hate tactic that fascists build into society to make everyone mindless, obedient fethwits
There was a time when I thought I had imagined watching Sliders. No one I hung out with had seen it or ever even heard about it. Thanks to the internet, I now know that it was in fact real, and I don't hang out with those people anymore..
I have stated my adoration for the Dark Crystal many times.
Also, I need to start reading the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy....all five books of the trillogy.....again....for the twentieth time...
Oooo good news everyone - I managed to slyly swoop in with a last minute bid on 6 squigs! Nice big ones with teef and with a pair of gobo drivers. 3 pounds a squig is actually quite cheap too!!! So very soon the space orks will have some pets. I don't know if there are rules for space squigs but who cares!.
Well, there are bomb squigs... of which I am very fond. Squigs with high explosives strapped to their backs that are fire-and-forget anti-vehicle missiles (that sometimes aren't very discriminatory about who's vehicle the blow up).
There's also an ork character that can turn any other IC into a squig... so you could have a squig that used to be a marine, eldar, IG or sisters commander for instances. "Abbadon the Despoiler..... squig..."
Few things in 40k are funnier or more satisfying than turning your opponent's hot-shot character into a squig!
how on earth have they fluffwise justified that rule git?
and i bet someone goes spare in a game if you pull that card...lol
i watched sliders till it got too confusing with all these invaders from different timelines... and i think it wasn´t even completely aired till the end here at all... tho in the beginning i really liked the show... after all it got john rhys davies...
It's the ork's wierdboy special character. Basically any IC within 18" and it's a roll off to see if they're squigified or not. Way too funny. For some reason... chaplains seem to be the kind of IC my guy has the most success against.
Yes he is a great actor and has an impressive voice - Iike the one where they mistake him for pavarotti.
The first two seasons were the best. They were fumbling around for new ideas later on.
Lol RSjake - It was a classic but fairly obscure unless you liked sci-fi. I'm sure most of my friends wont have heard of it either but more fool them.
Gits - that sounds eeevil! Imagine! During my short time playing 40k I'm afraid I was the kind of player to suprise my opponent by springing fun obscure rules like this on them. I remember it well -
(Enemy)"hah that lone champion will never hurt my
commander! hes got 3 wounds and thoughness 5!"
(Me)"So you never read the rules for vortex grenades then..."
Gitsplitta wrote:It's the ork's wierdboy special character. Basically any IC within 18" and it's a roll off to see if they're squigified or not. Way too funny. For some reason... chaplains seem to be the kind of IC my guy has the most success against.
actually i take your word for it... but you must admit it sounds a bit like a made up rule git?
and i bet it must be total fun turning some badass mother IC into a squigg....that must be one of the hilarioust moments in any game^^
I have an official metal warboss with an attack squig...Squigs are an armory cost that's all. Ork rules are more open to interpretation than the suck-ass stringent IG organization.
well, it doesnt suck...it's just more rigid, and unflexible with the current codex...you have to have a LOT of meatshields to fill the stupid 2 troops and 1 HQ slots. It is damn near impossible to play with a small force, you have to take a big army to be competitive

I have no idea why you would believe this.
My army is almost 60% painted and it has only taken me since 2004. I'm almost ready to begin the washes, highlights, and weathering.

What? Constipated? I'll have the commander tell you off!!
OK...maybe he does look a bit constipated but at least he has the toilet paper caddy standing at the ready when he is finally ready to act.
Now back on topic! In my best Ricardo Montalban voice, "Places everyone!"
Weety, love the Hybrids and that fantastic car. Looking forward to the squigs!! I have just one of my own, a banana squig named George.
He's part of my warband for Mordheim. I used a bit of sticky dripping clear glue to make him slobbery.
dsteingass wrote:well, it doesnt suck...it's just more rigid, and unflexible with the current codex...you have to have a LOT of meatshields to fill the stupid 2 troops and 1 HQ slots. It is damn near impossible to play with a small force, you have to take a big army to be competitive
Not necessarily...
HQ - Lord Commissar - 70 points base - 1 model
Troops - Veteran Squad - 70 points base - 10 models
Troops - Veteran Squad - 70 points base - 10 models
Total for 1 HQ & 2 Troops - 21 models and 210 points for the minimums. If that's a lot of repetitive painting and a LOT of meatshields, methinks any 40k army is going to give you problems...
..and your ass handed to you by any opponent other than Tau There isnt enough flexibility there to do anything except force a stalemate..if you're lucky. Vets need transport, otherwise how are they going to get anywhere to score?
Typically rude of me - falling asleep in the middle of a conversation. IG are alright but I would rather field them with some real badass allies (can you still do that?)
JB - 2004?!! Jebus! I think in 2004 I had completely forgotten warhammer ever existed (except in dreams - do you ever get the dream where you suddenly find that you have thousands of boxes full of minis?) and was more interested in where the next debauched party was. 2004 was such a long time ago, hope you finish soon!
Meatshield is a good word - you could market a range of burgers and call them meatshields. Lol

Banana squig? I didn't realise they had flavours!
No allies for IG right now except for Apocalypse games. Maybe Sixth Edition 40K will change that unhappy circumstance.
I never remember my dreams when I wake up. Perhaps that makes me more focused during my waking hours or just more inclined to daydream?
Orcs and goblins can tell you what flavors there are for squigs. I just believe that it is easier to visualize their color schemes if you think of flavors...or maybe exotic gum balls and other candy...or perhaps just desserts in general.
I should finish my IG in 2020 if I can ever stop buying new models.
2020? Madness! I plan on owning the entire rogue trader catalogue plus every necromunda figure by 2015. But I won't have painted them all... actually I reckon 2020 is probably about right.
Love a little weird Al. I haven't listened to him since 2002 though I should go check out the newer tunes. Never heard "ebay".
No sign of orks or squigs yet - maybe tomorrow.
On a lighter note I just finished a steaming hot 7 hour shift in a sauna-like shop with no air-conditioning and I really hope the world ends in a fiery explosion tonight or I will have to go do it all over again tomorrow - till I'm seventy if the jobs market doesn't liven up. No, I'm only kidding really I do however pray to science above that our local arsonist will finally succeed in burning down our shop,
You know weety, if you threw up pics of some things you needed... some of us might be able to help you out with that. Not pages and pages of pics... but pick a race, or part of a race and post a pic of the page from the catalog with the things you need noted. Couldn't hurt.
So there is JB. I was thinking of the one on the far right but the othe one looks pretty cool. I Probably won't collect all the RT and necro minis - its a bit over ambitious.
i beg to differ... you can never be too overambitious... that way you are planning failure and such things ...you may actually fail to reach that etheral goal to "catch them all" but that is then due to coincidence and universal mischief...
Real life might get in the way. You never know what might happen. World war three might start - the UK might be consumed by revolution, a world shortage of lead might lead to people melting them down. But given perfect conditions I will eventually end up with the lot.
oh... imagine a scene like in the last patriot... where ?heath ledger? melted down his brothers lead soldiers for ammunition nneeds... the horror... but then my collection would be largly safe as i mostly own only plastics^^
and there is a global revolution bound to be happening... my kids will see to it^^
No she really did suggest I paint squigs and I'm not one to pass up on a cunning plan.
These little beauts are from 1992-93 according to the slotta tabs.
My ventolin pirate is going to be a tiny touch nurgly - he isn't a cultist or anything he's just a slob who hates cleaning his armour and hasn't changed his trousers since the 39th millenium.
Squat tricycle and bike are in the bag! Ebay has got more interesting during the recession in some ways; 8 quid the pair and I've seen them sell for 15 pounds each before.
We sometimes call quids squids just to be different
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh - yep quids are pounds. You knew that surely?
Its in all the best british cinema - they say stuff like "giz a quid" or "hundred nicker for the pair" maybe even "got any dosh". I'm watching a cockney british gangsta film tonight can you tell!
You spend about six quid on a packet of cheap fags, Gits. That plus a pint and a packet of crisps will set you back a couple of fivers down at the pub.

I think so - the pic is blurry but I definitely see a cap and a big bushy beard. Its been a piece I've wanted since I started this crazy plan.
Also bidding on the harlequin jetbike
RSjake - no actually thanks to the plethora of US films we all watch we're very familiar with all the common American slang. I'm sure the regional ones are a bit more surprising.
Briancj - lets see :
Half ounce golden virginia rolling tobbaco- 3.80
Rolling papers - 25p
Pub Pint - 3.00
Pub crisps - 1.00
total - 8.05
Not far off - of course if you meant those nasty pre-rolled cigarettes I hear tell of then your probably right.
I used to like top gear - but as a decent thinking liberal I'm finding my burning hatred of Mr Clarkson begins to outweigh his hilarity. Can't help loving it when they do something funny though - sending a hatchback into space (or failing too) is a noble dream.
Thanks for the info dysartes - I thought there was something a bit special about him
JB - I think it was the Squig in the library with the enormous teef
The saga of "dirty" Dirk Sanchez the nurglesque space mercenary continues - having polished up his gun I'm wondering if I should dirty it down again - or maybe his gun is the only thing he cleans because he is pretty well unemployable without it? I'll think on that for a bit.

Automatically Appended Next Post: He needs just a hint of green algae growing somewhere on his armour I think. And maybe some yellowish pus around the respirator vents
Here are a few pics of what might be a finished mini - I might strip it and start again but I'm fairly pleased with it. Off to the salt mines now to earn my daily pittance.
I love how kitted up the model is. He certainly doesn't look like anything in the modern day GW ranges, and he holds a ton of character despite just being a 'guy with a gun'. Your paintjob helps loads of course, and it's funny to me that such a muted pallete can hold so much color variation. It makes if fun to look at as your eyes wander around and notice different things.
When I painted the 'white' armour I was thinking of a white transit van I saw parked next to a river at the end of a dirt track - It had obviously never been cleaned and was coated in a mixture of splattered on mud and green algae - with the words "also in white" scrawled on it with a finger.
I'm really pleased with this scheme and I think I might paint up some of my mercenary duplicates in these colours and make a filthy dirty gang of soap dodging nurgle lovers
Next project - I love this model it really is something special and shall be treated specially - after applying white primer and black wash I delicately dusted the figure with a white dry-brushing, giving an almost airbrush like effect:
Wow! These last two minis are new to me. They stand up pretty well against the current GW minis - maybe even top them due to the better personality of the old figs.
Your painting style is evolving or maybe I just missed earlier minis that use this black-lining style?
Well, that's the original House Escher gang leader with laspistol & boltgun.
I'm looking at putting a Necromunda Spyders platoon together for my IG, with each squad from a different gang - have the Underhive Scum with two bolt pistols as my current Lieutenant.
I'm going to do the hair in a continuous blend of yellow-orange-red-purple, and hopefully I will do some leopard skin bits and some other patterns -anyone have a suggestion for a pattern that would be doable on this scale?
wow weety... with just the skin tones done atm this mini already looks stunning... what haircolor will brunhilda get? if redhead i vote for an avatar change^^
Many of the sculpts that came out of the early 90's for GW's alternative games had mad character. A look through the Necromunda and Gorkamorka figures on Stuff of Legends will give you an idea.
That's some amazing blending on the hair, weety! It's probably a bit of a given that i'm a big fan of the early necro minis (who isn't?!), but that's seriously one hell of a job!
Absolutely love the respirator gent too - you've nailed the scummy/algae coated white van look amazingly! He's a fantastic scuplt, but I think it's your weathered and ramshackle scheme that's given him the most character. I realise it's super tedious to write out, but is there any chance you could pretty please give us a run down on how you managed to achieve that ruined white? I'd love to be able to replicate it!
Hope wage-slaving's still giving you all the time you need for your paint jobs
I think maybe It gets in my head in the morning because I'm calling my alarm clock a "Fascist" and other names
..And somehow that conjures
"Tell me why I got that Alf alarm clock"...
Dstein and von dom - some funny old minis those. Ass-cannon!
I checked out that thread - I love his enormous city and his take on budget building. Very very rusty.
scarper - well I primed in white, applied black wash, drybrushed white (for the whole mini), then on just the armour I applied a dark umber wash, followed by white highlights, then stippled umber mud splatters. Then I took a mixture of GW flesh wash and orkflesh wash (gives a kinda olive green), applied in dabs and smeared it with my finger. A few specks of sepia and yellow were applied around the respirator vents. Glad you like it! I'm definitely using it again.
My fav Weird Al song is "What if god smoked cannibis"
"What if god smoked cannabis?
Hit the bong like some of us
Drove a tie-dyed microbus"
You will never guess what I found at the car boot sale - well actually you will cos here is a pic:
I saw this and asked the man how much? He said he had no idea and I should make him an offer - So I got it for 3 pounds because I wasn't brazenly tight fisted enough to offer him a pound.
Its got no rule book but all the cardstock seems there and there are extra minis besides tyranids and scouts - there are plastic genestealers, hybrids and terminators too.
Good trip to the carboot all things considered
Automatically Appended Next Post: I will clean and sort it all and get some pics up soon
Nah its gotta be worth a fiver. I looked it up on ebay and there was only one guy selling and he wanted 147 for it. He probably won't get it but still.
hey in all honesty... what is this box full of everything really worth? weety... do you now have to hide from the police now? on german ebay all space crusade editions sell quite expensive...
It was a total steal von dom so I guess I have committed a crime - But on the other hand I did help the guy de-clutter his attic so we both win.
Some might say that anyone who says "I don't know, you tell me what you think its worth" needs to be ripped off. It was a beautiful moment when I realized he wasn't going to haggle.

I believe I've posted (on my plog, or other plogs) that I started playing Warhamster in 1988, and bought my first Citadel minis in 1987.
Its surprising sometimes to see what people look like. But not that surprising. I wan't to see what monkeytroll looks like - I always pictured him having really long dreadlocks and a goatie (no idea why).
I've started going through the box and unfortunatly the tyranids are in a bad way - they will need major GS work. Out of nine (nine!! I'm sure you only get 6 with the original set) only two are undamaged. But I think I can fix em.
I have 10 genestealers, 2 terminator librarians, 6 terminators 4 hybrids and 25 scouts - so It looks like I've got the minis from 1 and a half advanced space crusades and most of the minis from the original space hulk.
Sadly the space hulk minis are a bit static.
Will all genestealers please raise your left hand:
Back in the day I had 3 of these warriors, but they were the tan plastic, with round sprues. Still have some bits floating around somewhere.......*Wanders off mumbling*
that warrior is looking damn fine weety! and no one actually have seen those bugs fight...so it can only speculated as to who their ballet fighting style might look... also...this uniform movment looks very creepy...which adds to the hivemind feel something extra^^

Alien looking even... They are a little gawky - like something from a B movie - but I like B movies so that is fine. Once I've found a way to dissolve the glue on the others I'm going to try and get one of them to look like he is charging forward in a crouch.
Testing fairy powerspray atm.
Horn rimmed glasses would definitely suit them - they are the office workers from HELL. I'm not really sure where they would put this pocket protector though.
Well this blog is all about improvement! Questing after that elusive perfection and all.
I suppose the leg is riveted - Like a leather jacket
Von dom - actually the zebra pattern isn't all that hard - easier than leopard print anyway - if you just get a picture of zebra pattern up to help guide you its fairly straightforward.
In work today I opened the door to the stairwell and there was a starling right in front of me - it panicked and flew around my head like a mad little flappy thing and I shouted "F--K F--K F--K" real loud so the customers heard. Seriously we have starlings nesting all over the place in there - they get in through the holes.

Indeed - they didn't give him cancer, despite the chain-smoking...
Nice Escher, weety. Amusingly, I can use the Underhive Scum I picked up as a dual-bolt pistol weilding Company Commander, but not as a Platoon Commander - how bizarre...
Hey Weety, Looks like you did really well with the Advanced Space Crusade,
The sttealers and the librarians, I believe are from an expansion pack which went with advanced space crusade, the name eludes me to it, are the libbies, in cream coloured plastic and have a monstrously big force axe?
His stance seems to be daring his assailant to kick him in the family jewels. In true tricky elder fashion though he probably is wearing a spiky metal codpiece under those robes.
I always assumed that the mummy elf and the daddy elf love each other very much and the daddy elf takes his... erm elf thing erm and well puts his special elf seed into mummy elf's tummy. Errm
Automatically Appended Next Post: Thats it - he uses his special elf-trowel to plant his elf seed. - In an elf furrow
aren´t they hatched? i thought that uruk hai and elves are nearly the same... and the orks get hatched in holes in the soil... i bet it is more like a geen grassland with elves but still in essence the same thing... and i bet elves have no glimpse of the warfare between the sexes...in which men always loose
and good looking weety... how do you do those raised areas like the bone works so clean? i am cruuently struggling with russian letter i paint on some minis.,.. raised detail all and it gives me serious cramps...
Now if you wana get all official about it I believe that Tolkien never discussed it but the elves do fall in love and get "jiggy" with it. Baby elves frequently follow and seeing as they can mate with humans I guess they do it the old fashioned way...
When painting around raised areas it helps to have a tiny brush, a bright light and a very steady hand. Thats all really.
I'm not touching dwarf sex with a barge pole... I say they hatch out of rocks due to sunspot activity.
Terry pratchett had some good theories.
As for orcs hatching out of egg sacks - well I think thats just in the film - I think in the books tolkien states "For the Orcs had life and multiplied after the manner of the Children of Illuvatar" Although its a bit contentious as Tolkien never mentions female orcs. I think that its probably just because he found the idea of female orcs distasteful...
In the LoTR films Saurmon was producing a "New" kind of Orc right? So that is why they were hatching from egg sacs. That was what I thought anyway.
It would be funny if Orcs were the larval phase of Elves. They are born Orcs, and spend many years in that form, then one day they hang upside down in a tree and spin a cocoon. After a few years, the cocoon splits and out comes a beautiful elf, remembering nothing from their former life.
Orc females look exactly like the males. You can only tell the difference when they are naked. Barely. Same with Dwarves.
Lol dysartes that was a fine bit of swift humour - Its a funky party out there in middle earth. I like how we've managed to take one of the most sexless books in english literature and stripped it down till you can see the genitalia. It wouldn't surprise me if nerds the world over have had this conversation a million times...
I have been experimenting with layers of different greens and yellows to give a good orc flesh green - pics in the morning cos I feel lazy now.
I love those RT Orks. They are my first 40K army. I painted nine of them but still have about 18 unpainted including a dread and a buggy. It's only been 23 years since I bought them so I'm setting a breakneck pace of painting progress. Pics somewhere in my gallery...not going to disturb your plog with them.
I used to make buggies out of cardboard and lego wheels because my strategy hinged around having at least 5 of them and I could never afford the real mini. Fast attack is a great strategy - being able to plonk a buggy with a multi melta right next to your enemies main battle tank on turn one is good for army morale. Gona check out that buggy now -thanks for the heads-up.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I was considering buying the warbuggy for 12 squid but then I remembered that glenmorangie single malt was reduced to 12 quid so I got that instead - I work hard so I deserve expensive whiskey, and cake.
I might finish an ork today. They will be blood axe orks so grey and red will be the primary colours
Interesting but a little excessive - Just one of those sprues would be enough for me.
Orks are done - These three are probably the least cool of the orks I got so the rest will be even more fun to paint!
For some reason they all have watches. I guess they are blood axes and so have to come up with complex human style battle plans which require "Sinkronized watchez". Then they will all know what time it is when the plan goes to hell.
Well thankyou gitsplitta and JB. I enjoyed painting them. Orks are the "fun" species in 40k - whimsical almost, while at the same time being brutish and evil of course.
dave weety mostly nowadays paints with washes... at least she said so some time ago... she builds up the color to that degree takes some time but you get a way different look...
Viktor is correct dave - I begin with my usual base colour of white+black wash+white highlight then cover with a GW yellow wash, then vallejo green wash, then very watered down GW ork flesh wash. You have to be careful in each stage about how much wash you apply and be prepared to wipe some excess away with a dry brush or finger and make sure each layer is dry enough before the next.
Painting with washes isn't always the best option but in this case I think it worked a treat.
unearthlychilde I love those freebooters they are great - pirates are always fun so ork pirates are even better!
Cheers dude - please continue and if you will, direct me to your current plog and I will observe. Its not a bad technique for a good finish in quick time - they look great to the naked eye - although with macro photography I can see that its not always perfect and that I ought to use base colours and highlights a bit more.
Is perfection attainable... Or do the 'eavy metal guys actually airbrush/photoshop their images? Anyone?
I was thinking recently that I would like to paint one of the more recently sculpted minis that has bigger and sharper detail so I can see what it is you youngsters see in em. If anyone has a suggestion for a "reasonably" priced single mini from the new ranges that I would enjoy painting (something imperial agentish - inquisitor or mechanicus or sumat)
I have a friend who used to be a Heavy Metal painter. Yes, they are terrifyingly good, within the House Style. He himself can no longer be bothered with that level of work though, and is now an advocate of prime+dip!
