The one on the left is the male penitent engine driver, the female figure was in a pile from Vik, you'd need to ask him
Zoomable pic, as requested!
Next stage is gs cables (yay tube tool!)
Also, the back:
Need to plastruct that gap and cover in purity seals, and also make a footplate for the female one.
Oh, and scavenge another sentinel from somewhere
You've been busy it seems. Way too much has passed for me to catch up on, but I'll dig through the ancient posts later to look at pictures. I know you've been doing good work, such as the great job you did ruining those Rhinos. The only hope for them now is to be 'requisitioned' by a massive horde of Cultists.
Recycled parts are... bar-room brawler (D&D miniature) land raider (Epic)
also includes an assortment of very old plasma cannons and conversion beamer (not sure what I'll use) and there will be a head swap probably... and a third-party servo arm. Not sure where I'm going with this build just yet... we'll see how it all comes together.
Automatically Appended Next Post: My build is done. This is a gun servitor sporting an antique plasma gun. There isn't much left of the bar room brawler unfortunately. His head (bearded) wasn't very servitor-like and his arms were really much to short. Made the whole figure look off (I tried).
You can still clearly see the Epic Land Raider though. I wanted to give the impression that this a micro engineering vehicle, so I added the plow and tow chain as well as other bits.
Hey gits that's looking ace! you are well into the task of repurposing.
@Skalk - great to hear from you again buddy. yes, there is a lot of random here and speaking of rhinos:
I had to use chimera tracks and will need to build front and back up as I'm short those.
hey ho,
graven
There's now a surf shack on that beach called Charlie Does Surf
So, some news of sorts. I've decided to extend the contest deadline to Oct 31st; but why?
1) to stir up a bit more interest
2) to give folk a bit more time
3) I'm going to be without regular net access for the best part of a month. We're getting the kitchen and Man-cave redone, which means minis etc boxed away and no broadband.*sigh* a necessary sacrifice to have a kitchen I actually want to Cook in! but, a bit of a bugger nonetheless.
No worries mate but I do hope we get to see your pretty new kitchen when it's done.
I'll post a reminder of your competition tonight in my blog but I don't get that much traffic. Hope it helps a bit. Sounds like it's just me and Gits right now.
I imagine he has a VW camper - or possibly a tricked out rally car.
or both...
besides, I like the idea of my space Chiquitas having big headlights
Speaking of which, this is the build post tomato paste tube scrollwork:
and for gitsplitta's enlightenment, further tube tool illustration:
A neat gadget. The other one will need to be covered in them! good advice from Casey was not to use Vaseline (you have this in Americanland? it's basically rendered whale fat in a tin) but just make sure the gs is moist.
Gitsplitta wrote:Oh yes, we have Vaseline... but the generic name for it is petroleum jelly... so I don't think whales are involved in it's manufacture.
I know, just seeing if I could confuse a colonial
Viktor von Domm wrote:

Oh behave!!!
Tomato tube really makes excellent scrolls
Hey graven, I didn't know if you wanted us to post our progress here or not... but I thought I'd show one intermediate image at least. Still a long way to go, but at least at this point you can see where I'm going with it.
Very cool indeed! I really like the veining, personally. And yes, absolutely post WIPs here.
Automatically Appended Next Post: And a bit of progress:
Automatically Appended Next Post: You may have noticed the addition of bewb. I'm not a fan of cheesecake per se, but I just think it fits in this cake. Also, SoB should be female. Just common sense.

I know the wiring is very tentacular.
Dr H wrote:Good tube work. Looking forward to seeing these painted.
Thanks - Me too trying to have them dine for panda's contest. I feel bad for pulling out of the league's one but time and space and decorating/building work in house means I'm going to be very time and space limited.
Well, guess who JUST found out about the re-purpose contest? It is a small matter as I've got enough time to enter a completed piece. I'll get started on this tonight providing nothing stupid happens. I already have a couple ideas in mind and know where the bitz are. I'll be back ASAP.

This model has no GW bitz at all. The base if from a Warzone miniatures set, the skull pad arm is from a company I cannot remember, the torso is made from a power armor backpack from a from another company I cannot remember (which is the same company as the blue legs and two different arms to create the upper and lower left arm). The cloak is a Ral Partha bit from an Elven archer set. The detached arm is a Power Maul conversion I made from a Power Sword arm from the same model as the blue legs and a Grenade Launcher from Demon Forge. The Bolter in the right arm is also Demon Forge. A little GS to bulk the model up for some Nurgle goodness and I'm all set for my first official WIP shot.
More info on the how / what so far is on my Random Projects thread.
I'll be making it to the finish line even if it takes staying up into the wee hrs on work night. I've been running my Cultists Horde again and I really want a model that represents the core behind the uprising, plus I'd really like to finish a contest project for the first time in well over a year. I'm feeling excited about modeling again.
Huzzah! And just to add more fuel to the fire, I'm going to do participation prizes.
Yup.
As in, you finish, you get something.
Guaranteed.
Automatically Appended Next Post: In other news, had a coffee and a catch-up with an old friend, who had dug out some bits for me: That's exorcist extra armour, 2 sprues of SoB bits, 5 basic SoB and 5 seraphim. Lovely karma, as I'd given a classic nos Russ to another mate earlier today for his ww1 guard. There's an awful lot of decent people in this hobby...
And just in case you missed it - mystery participation prizes for the repurposing contest are go! I'm particularly looking at you regulars who've yet to pitch in!
Nah, it's all contest appropriate glad you like my lunacy. I need to do it a single heavy flamer turret and a storm bolter just so I can run it as a second repressor; I also could do with making another multi melta turret, so I have yet more options for this army I'll never play with Oh,
your entry's looking cool as btw. I'm just holding off on comments generally till the contest is done.
oh...you even highlighted the hazard stripes git... wow!
and you sure have some nice friends graven...that costs a fortune on ebay... heck alone the package of sisters...... yup... there are some really nice peeps...i can testify for this... the wave of kindness that has happened to be due to dakka sure makes up for some of the general badness life usually flings at us...
and just to spoil your work of the current tank...have you thought about making some flame effects for the flamer?...
you know this would be awesome as hell...(and a perfect oportunity later on to inlcude OSL)
Be careful graven... I think Vik was one of those guys trying to convince me to make glowing barrels on something I was painting (can't remember what now).
@Vik: Well... I had to do something. Sometimes the painting on figures goes smooth and easy... this isn't one of those. It's kind of fighting me at every step so I'm having to dote on individual aspects of the paint job in order to make them look decent. It'll be a lesson in perseverance if it turns out OK in the end.
Gitsplitta wrote:Be careful graven... I think Vik was one of those guys trying to convince me to make glowing barrels on something I was painting (can't remember what now). Mk1 LR perhaps? He is a menace,

Thank you. I need to set up a tripod and real light box before submitting my entry for judging. There are a lot of details that didn't show up in this pic.
Thanks, Graven! I've been patiently waiting for you to finish these sweet and tasty tank builds. I'd be re-purposing myself, but just too much stuff in the way.
cormadepanda wrote:Great pennate engine work. Nice sisters drop. Lovely contest going on. graven.. you been a busy bee.
Well, those bad-ass girls have now got primer on them, just drying merrily in the garage. Longer term I need to scavenge a third sentinel to build #3 for the unit. As for the supply drop, for the price of a couple of cups of coffee and some great chat, I got very lucky. Even had the helmed seraphim superior, which I had forgotten existed. Contest seems to be taking shape (phew)
Moltar wrote:Thanks, Graven! I've been patiently waiting for you to finish these sweet and tasty tank builds. I'd be re-purposing myself, but just too much stuff in the way.
Thanks man. I know the feeling! The tanks will probably have to wait a wee bit: I really want to get the engines done for panda's contest, and I'm away this weekend, AND packing up the man-cave the following before the renovation begins to kitchen and cave alike. Still, to keep you happy: Repressor #2 loadout, that is
As I say, I'm away over the next few days (elderly relatives on the way out, need to make sure I see them beforehand...) but will be back in the land o' dakka middle of next week.
It's a Dark Age model for my Dragyri Ice Caste, but since I don't have anyone to play with, nor do I have the updated rules, I haven't had much motivation to build it. I'm going to try and make it into a Daemon Prince for Fantasy.
I know what you mean, I'm very much reduced to lurking at present (feel particularly guilty towards my regulars who post here and I have not really reciprocated :*()
Anyway, I'm hurrying through the bad-gals (and super-excited at conformation of sisters digi dex!) - Pics without flash cos they're wet (no smut at the back there boy!)
And trying to finish my acolyte who was going to be Kyrinov whilst starting his replacement , Kyrinova:
I took the kids to see Justin and the knights of valour at the weekend -enjoyed, better than expected, great dragon - and was struck by how like my colour scheme his is. Kyrinova is going to reflect this strongly, with much more starkly white armour than usual and gold trim.
Also, looking at my bits box, I'm convinced I must be able to make a dialogus somehow, if not a hospitalier too.
Viktor von Domm wrote:interesting adaption of your scheme...
due to the darkness tho not much to be said sadly...
and i never heard of that movie... just had a look... might be worth for a family out for my bunch too...
It's a nice family animated movie. Quite old fashioned, in many ways. Great voice cast, too. I think it got a rough ride because the critics were expecting family animated Shrek-style comedy, which it definitely is not, though there are laughs to be had. Gustav the steampunk dragon (unwilling crocodile with steampunk contraption on its back) is a thing of joy.
Also, you're a PITA. Pics below.
Dr H wrote:Looking good from here. and I like the pose of Kyrinova, looks a cool model.
Thanks man ( @ Vik) - she's a Saint from Dark Age, I've horded a few of the female figs from that for this project.
And, speaking of which, if only to keep Vik happy...
Next for these is liberal amounts of Nuln Oil.
well... if everybody would have this at the front of their mind each of their days...the world would be a happy place...at least for me bwahahahahaha....
and... looking good...now that i can see it with a bit more ligt around it^^
also... that female model (forgot the name...) looks interesting... specially the way she wields the gun... underslung bolter... that is not often to be seen...
@ VIk Saint Mary's underslung bolter is a treat indeed! In Dark Age, iirc, it is a proper bolter, as in, oversized nail gun. I think she's a nice fit for the arch-confessor. Although he seems to be gone from the product list on the GW site, I notice. Hmm...
@DrH: you are a silly man.
As for the rest of this range, I do like the hospitalier, although the dialogus is just a horrible, horrible model. In 2 minds about Sisters Repentia - I'll never, ever use them, the models are a bit too cheesecakey for my tastes, but there's that whole completist vibe and I can't really think of anything good from other game systems (or justify cutting up my Eschers). Any thoughts?
Can't help but think the Mantic Sisters range might be worth a look for them I think they've got flail armed gals and significantly less stripperish than the Penitent.
i am really not into bald women... but these do look good... tho i have no clue what they´d be a use for your army graven as i have never had a SoB dex in my hands so i don´t know...^^

Quite. And new dex cover is now doing rounds on t'internet, and is purty, and not too super-booby
So, You may recall I wanted to kitbash a dialogus:
Yup, she has an amp. What? GS cabling still to be added.
Better than the official chick with a stick and blow-up doll mouth, I say.
And real progress on the engines - enough to get pics each!
Side boob AND butt-shots.
How kind am I?
#2
Still Wip-y, mind you.
And tomorrow the great boxing up commences *sigh* so all will be quiet on the P&M front from me - but there's still your contest entries!
nice writing... i couldn´t read it completly but i like the style of your writing...micropen at work?
also on the first engine, the one with the male...the blade is a bit too heavily washed with sepia?
but they do look very expensive already!
as for the dialogus... where is the plastic SOB from? i always thought there are only metal ones around??? but the model looks good...she is reciting from the book to the troops via speaker?

Micropen a go-go! Thanks mate. The heavy sepia wash on the blade was an experiment, thought I'd see how it looked and go from there. I'm 50-50 on it myself.
There's a plastic torso front and heads on the immolator sprue. The legs here are from a deldar raider, the other bits are miscellany! And yeah, I like the idea of her standing in the middle of a warzone, with an amp and bolt pistol, reciting imperial poetry and shooting heretical scum.
cormadepanda wrote:sweet dialogues, really puts GW's to shame.
Thanks mate. I hope she tells a story (literally and figuratively!)
Well, it was in a bitz box I got via eBay...a Treasure...
And as far as I know, these days you only need one to start an army And as graven said, that helmet is from one of the view platic kits of SoB out there, a tank kit, thus you get it just as a niece detail...
Dr H wrote:Does she get FM radio is she twists one the right way?
Just like Kryten

I'm actually pretty good for troops, thanks though. Helms are handy for head swaps etc. though.
So, first, the occasional acolyte:
Do like how that old Griffon model's come up.
And the Engines, which tbh I'm not 100% happy with, but I really, really need to pack stuff up today, so just have to live with them as they are:
And for Vik's benefit, the devotional scrolls say:
"His Bounty and Kindness are All. In Death, Freedom."
"All Shall Perish in Fire and Fury There Is His Truth."
I'm going to try to get as much done on Kyrinova before I have to squirrel everything away.
Later chaps and chapettes,

Cool>big nips. Thanks for kind words gang.
@storag, wow, some sweet toys there!
@gits yeah, maybe, just anther experiment *shrug* really need a shrugging orkmoticon...
Just wanted to prove that I was still making progress (albeit slow). Right side is done, next comes the chipping & weathering. OH, and the plasma coils... nearly forgot about that!
Thanks for the heads up mate, there's some good stuff on eBay just now too. Tbh for grunts I'm probably ok, and if there's new plastics or even finecast coming I shall hang fire.
Right now from what I have heard from the former GW employees that I hang around the Blood Angel and Sisters codex are ipad only and that is about it :/ kind of sucks. Damn GW, such a tease.
Hey graven, I'm nearly done (hope to finish tonight... made the mistake of weed-whacking my yard and now my painting hand is completley shot... can't even hold a glass for fear of dropping it).
Is there a specific format you'd like the entry to appear in as far as pictures and text goes? Is it OK to point out the things that'll apply to judging but might not be obvious to the casual observer?
This is a gun servitor for my Mantis Warriors. He had a name once, that's not important anymore. He was re-purposed from a penal institution to serve the Emperor for His greater glory.
Here are the parts and build (including the two re-purposed aspects... the man and the tracked vehicle). The man is a D&D mini and the vehicle is an Epic land raider. OH, and his tow chain is actually a piece of jewelry chain with part of the fastening clasp removed!
Spoiler:
Recycled parts are... bar-room brawler (D&D miniature) land raider (Epic)
Shot also includes an assortment of very old plasma cannons and conversion beamer (not sure what I'll use) and there will be a head swap probably... and a third-party servo arm. Not sure where I'm going with this build just yet... we'll see how it all comes together.

Here's the servitor on his legal (25mm) base:
Spoiler:
The base itself: There is a re-purposed part of the base. The fence is actually a wooden fence from my many failed attempts at model railroading. I liked building the buildings and kitbashing the cars... but I couldn't stand making the terrain or the electrical work. Which, as you might imagine spelled the doom of any model RR plans I had. OH, and that little tuft of tall green grass fell off some tyranid figure I bought second-hand and re-painted/based. So even some of the greenery has been "re-purposed".
Spoiler:
Finally, the finished servitor on his base. As you can see he's plowed a path through a rocky field to make himself a small defensive burm from which he can fire his plasma cannon. Woe be unto any who stand before the servants of the emperor in defiance, for they shall know neither mercy nor solace!
It's been fun graven! Thanks for the opportunity to play in your sandbox for a while!!
While looking at these extremely good looking pics of your masterly executed conversion I wonder...do you own a dog or a cat sorry mate but whenever I see hairs lying around my very special OCD kicks in high gear...
PLENTY of time left.... the whole month of October! I'm just a bit ahead of schedule for a change. That does free up brain space for a long overdue project though.
Ah I see, thanks for the compliment, and that is supposed to look like riveted armor...somthing along the lines of ringmail?...its just two sizes of punched plastic card...
Good to see some cracking (or possibly cracked) progress ongoing.
As I'm packing everything up (it all starts Monday in earnest), I thought I'd take a couple of group shots. Firstly, the Ordos of the Inquisition:
Yes, yes, dreadnought photobomb...
And the assembled Ordos (minus vehicles):
I may have too many toy soldiers.

Nothing bad! Renovations to kitchen and man-cave over the next fortnight. Amongst other things, it'll give me more storage and a new work area, hopefully more practical than my (lovely) edwardian writing desk offers. Also, massive kitchen improvements, which is the real reason (honest...)
In other news, super-psyked about new SoB codex in a week! Nice timing on the part of me there.

Actually I WAS marveling at the quality of your picture. When I take a shot "out of the box" they never turn out as well as your's did. Your army represents well in that photo my friend, no worries!
That truly is a horde , good luck on the renovations. Just redid two of my three kids bedrooms yesterday on a whim, and that without removing walls o cabinets.

Now gitalong, li'l doggies!
In other news, managed to score a hospitalier, the torturer (the one with 2 flaming brands, which I have been after for ages) and SoB mystery misc bag from eBay for £10, hurrah. Given the premium on Sob just now (as if they weren't pricey enough) I'm really pleased with this score.
Enjoying having a couple of days off with my boys. Off to see Planes in a bit (well, it's better than Smurfs 2...) while the kitchen saga continues. Speaking of which, had a long conversation with Mrs G, which has resulted in me getting back not only a bit of dedicated workspace in the study [/rage] but generally more storage about the place. Also, it turns out the 1000x filter-tip boxes her lab uses are not only the right size for foam trays but way sturdier than KR's cardboard. Going to be great for keeping armies safe.
Had a great game of SAGA the other night, I continue to highly recommend it. 4 way game, Vikings, Skraelings (Amerindians, absolutely bloody vicious) and Irish, plus me playing Welsh. Whilst I won, to all intents and purposes (my otherwise rather useless foot-slogging warriors managing to take out the Viking Warlord on the last turn!), I'm finding that my battle-board is so dependent on me rolling 6s that I'm not really enjoying them greatly. So I think a switch to Strathclyde Welsh (all mounted, can harry and outflank from off board) might be in order, though means I need to make more minis! It's that or paint up the squad of axe-wielding troopsI have built, and try my hand at Irish. The very fact that I can, in essence, run one army as any of 4 (Gaels for ancients),speaks volumes about this mighty, mighty game. Got a big marathon game planned for 30th Nov, so need to get one test in before then. More ponies or mad irishmen? Hmm...
Wow. There are some excellent pieces in there, and the participation level is more than I expected. Running this was a great idea. Eight people now have new models built out of stuff they may not have ever used.
I want to have my entry finished this weekend but I'll likely submit it a day or so before the deadline as I need some experimentation time w/ photography to give my Demagogue the best chance he can have.
Being a sad fanboy, bought the new SoB Codex on Android. I really like it, I can see me happily running a lot of tanks (yay!), 3 immolators and 3 Exorcists seems to be the way the truth and the etc. Kyrinov's been sorta-squatted, though, but I'll just stick a backpack on Kyrinova and be done with it. Might stick some BA Icongraphy around and about, just for giggles - Sisterhood of Ophelia's Tears, to arms!
That would be useful, actually. Although I still feel guilty about your vanishing supply drop :*( I am digging out some nice toys to send you in desperate recompense (including that squat for the yard of ale )
New units? Ha! This is a minority codex for fanboys! If anything, there's less because Kyrinov is gone as a special character (though you can still run him as generic priest with the same wargear for cheaper, albeit with only 1W) and the FW repressor's is no longer in the codex either (booooo...)
I see triple-threat exorcist as being the main choice for heavy slots (fine by me), particularly with no skyfire so volume of fire's going to have to do it for you .Classic Retributor HB squad an in immolator are ok but you can now trick out basic squads with Heavy weapons, and unit size is down to 5 (this is very cool). Hence, you're going to see armies running 5-woman squads packing flamer/heavy flamer/combi-flamer in a flamey immolator.
Sisters are going to be the new firey mech vet, in many ways
I do get the moaning about, "hey, they're way too expensive to get into" but actually I've spent almost nothing on mine. Yes, they're horrific for a new start but then they're (arguably) a finesse army anyway and would be tough for a novice to run.
I'm a little sad that Penitent Engines didn't get nerfed, but I guess I can live with it. Celestine is less horrific (she only gets to resurrect once), and you can only use a unit's particular Act of Faith once per game which is a bit sucky, but simulacrum allows a second use and, tbh, one rarely uses them more than once. A lot of folk are going to moan about the fact that priests are essentially must-have add ons to units now (Battle Hymns are excellent), but personally I can live with that, especially because with a transport capacity of 6 that's kinda retcon-ing what Immolators are for.
What I do see from them is that they're a properly viable mid-range/assault army, which is very unusual in 6th. Whether they'll hold up at tourney level is another matter. From my perspective, they're not a great allied force for GK as they cover a lot of the same bases, but the army will feel very fluffy (and very, very burn-y).
The 5-(wo)man squad seems pretty fair for the reason you mentioned (Immolator's Transport 6 capacity), I guess it'll be funnier for the IC combinations !
A bit surprised that they didn't at least put "skyfire" as an option on the Exorcist... That would've been the easier one !
Still sad that they haven't released any new unit, or transferred the previous ones into FC... I might have been tempted for a few !!
I always thought that SoB are more an army for the true connoisseur rather than for those waac type of players... So a fluffy army it will always hopefully stay...
Don't sweat it mate, for me it was not a true swap anyways, you asked for help and thus I did, if I really ever be mad...than I'd be all ballistic all over the place like Liberian poo
So you could do with some ig flamer arms? I see if I can have them sent to you this week...
I always liked the idea of Sisters, and their flamey melta goodness was always fun on the table... Might have to look into them, but man are they expensive

Don't sweat it mate, for me it was not a true swap anyways, you asked for help and thus I did, if I really ever be mad...than I'd be all ballistic all over the place like Liberian poo
So you could do with some ig flamer arms? I see if I can have them sent to you this week...
Ok, ok and please
GiraffeX wrote:Nice little review of the new SoB codex, thanks Graven. Might have to get my Sisters out and back on track.
Good lad. Glad to help break the P&M's block.
Alfndrate wrote:I always liked the idea of Sisters, and their flamey melta goodness was always fun on the table... Might have to look into them, but man are they expensive
If I were getting into them, I'd use Mantic Basilea sisters, IG Flamers, and chopped SM packs. That'd do the trick
I ordered my Farsight Enclave 'dex today, and I couldn't help but order a Sister Hospitaller & a HFlamer-toting one.... Those were my favourite models from the range, so for the sake of collection I got tempted
As for meat grinders... You'd sure hack a lot of Orks / Gaunts / Guards with such a squad... But I'm not sure Sisters need help in that area : they already got plenty of flame weapons for that kind of job !
Maybe 4 MM would help gunning down those pesky fliers ?? That's 2/3 of a chance to hit with a squad... not really impressive, but not that bad either...
I definitely think Sisters will struggle against Heldrake armies...
With you on the hospitalier, beautiful. Generally folk are finding triple drake can't cope with sheer volumeof fire of exorcist triple threat. The sense I get with mm is that you could stay at range and hb or get up close and flame; mm are not really the best. Having said that, one squad in a mm immolator is a possibility. I guess it's just going to be about trial and error. I don't have any mm built and, whilst I could convert, flamer just feels like a better use of time and effort
There is a lot of NSFWife stuff over at hasslefree. On the plus side, when you order from them, they usually include free, disappointing candy with your order! I like that priest mini and I hadn't seen that knight girl before, so I'm glad you posted her. Not that I need any more unpainted minis.
I've been following along the entire time, just haven't been posting.
I'll offer some respect to Hasselfree for releasing a mini of a woman in armor that consists of something more than pasties and a G-string. It's still a bit silly but at least it is a full suit.
Hasslefrees got some great stuff my favourite are the Kindred WW1 Halflings- awesome models. I've also got a great book carrying ghoul for free of them. They've actually got some practically armoured female models as well.

I'll have my Dark Apostle done this weekend.
Cool and the gang. There are both scantily and nudily ladies there but somehow even then Kev's stuff rarely feels totally gratuitous.

So kitchen refit is done, literally watching paint dry now (wife has be polishing brass...) and have got to thinking what's next on the old hobby agenda: 1) Sisters - finish vehicles, paint force (!), model up more flamers 2) Avenger Strike Fighter - I quite fancy this, maybe chop up a Valk though cos £$ and curse of FW... 3) Red Hunters - Seriously, why did I not know this chapter existed? I was rooting through the FW chapter upgrades and this lot just sang to me: =I= allied, GK/SoB as battle brothers, selectable chapter tactics, and full of the grime of Vraks? So maybe - just maybe - I might revisit SM. This will require me to get hold of as many skull pads as possible, of course...
Next up is actually defining the new work space. Small painting desk, 2 lamps, and cupboard space for supplies. Watch this space!
As for Red Hunters, I draw your attention to this, snipped from feait:
The Question to Forgeworld
I had a question concerning the newly released PDF for "SPACE MARINE CHAPTER TACTICS FOR SIXTH EDITION WARHAMMER 40,000".
For the section that addresses the Red Hunters on the that states the following:
"By this Seal: When using the Allies Matrix, all models in
the Red Hunters detachment count units from Codex: Grey
Knights and Sisters of Battle as Battle Brothers so long as an
Inquisitor is also present in the allied detachment."
Sisters of Battle (now known as Adeptus Sororitas as in the new codex release) no longer have an inquisitor in their codex and haven't since they were part of the Witch Hunters codex. Can you please clarify how a sisters of battle/adeptus sororitas is suppose to be able to take the Red Hunters as allies if they cannot take an inquisitor in their army list?
The Response via Forge World
Thank you for your email. The Chapter Tactics update is fully up to date with the current codex's and is in fact future proofed. All we can say is that it is correct and the Red Hunters Chapter Tactics will make sense at a later date.
Yup, I'm psyked! Thanks moltar for link and yggs for the one with pic! It's like the Codex Ordo Bloggit is for real! Just as long I don't get accused of band wagon-ing.
One other bit of news is the ongoing cave situation. Mrs G thinks she wants to move the cake cupboard. This is good - we share the cave (it's our hobby room) but this should mean more desk as space for me. It does mean a delay on restarting hobbying but I'll live.
Congrats on surviving a re-modeling. I still wish they would print the codex's as well as make them available for digital release. I like having something tangible to use.
- pauldron to elbow: unk manufacturer (circa mid 90's) GS - elbow to bottom handle of Power Maul: different unk manufacturer (circa mid 90's)
- top half of Power Mail- 1/2 of a Demon Forge grenade launcher, jewelry chain, GS, and skulls RSJake original cast
Torso- Two jump packs from same unk manufacturer as lower part of left arm, D'addario guitar string, GS
Right Arm- same unk manufacturer as top handle of Power Maul left arm, GS, was cut twice and repositioned. Bolter is from Demon Forge
Backpack- Tanks from a 1/35 USMC flame thrower from a WWII Iwo Jima diorama, pipes from a 1/48 Lamborghini
Legs- same unk manufacturer as right arm
Base- Warzone miniatures base from box set
Note that the model has no GW parts. That's the magic of this model.
Regardless of how I do overall I'm very happy with the results. In a single effort I created the Dark Apostle I wanted for my Cultist force (Who better to lead dedicants of Nurgle than a genuine Champion) and finished a contest entry.
I'll post a better pic later today, but here's another angle for now:
I have only just realised the date, what with going on holiday and starting a new job, I haven't had time to finish painting my entry (I'm slow!) and am therefore going to have to drop out on the 11th hour!
Good luck to everybody else though, and I will post photos of mine when it is actually finished!
So sorry about the delay! Right, finished entries:

Let the voting (me & briancj) commence! If finished entrants would like to submit their favourite I'll also do a popular vote (link to rules in sig).
I quite agree!
And with that in mind, I'm adding 2 extra categories:
The WIP award - for incomplete effort, which will be chosen by judges, and will be at their personal discretion (sorry briancj, more work for you ).
The People's Choice - for the one you, my lovelies, like the most.
You don't have to adhere to scorecard necessarily, just pick your favourite piece of repurposing.
It's just a damn popularity contest
Voting closes 15th Nov, so vote early, vote often. Or something like that.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also my p&m exile is coming to end! The study is reborn - office space:
And hobby space:
Big cupboard is hers, new desk is mine. Now, the question is cupboards or shelves on the wall? it's going to be paint and bitsboxes, mostly. I have plenty of storage for cases etc, this is about ready access to supplies. your thoughts?
Was about to skip on the voting... All those parameters make me feel dizzy and dumb... But since you opened the door for the less bright voters...my vote for the peeps choice award is on gitsplitta. And if I may vote for a wip entry...definatly my money is on storag's elf!
As for the shelves vs cupboard issue...shelves, definitely shelves, way more flexible...
Resounding in favour of shelves then! btw any more public/WIP votes? judges have decided and I'd like to announce the winners! I'll close public at midnight.
Ok, well, here we go. First of all, thanks to all who took part, finished and WIP alike, my mighty co-judge briancj and all who voted in the people's choice!
So...
It was tough, but the judges were in absolute agreement. Though a close contest, we reached the same conclusion

Gitsplitta!
And in order, following:

SkalkBloodaxe
Viktor Von Domm
Automatically Appended Next Post: Many congrats to our winner, who gets first choice of prize (pm me). I'll then pm the others in succession. I'll give a bit mute of a breakdown, along with people's choice and WIP winner, anon!
And thanks again!
It had to be gits win...awesomeness seaks its rightfull place Congratz to you all other winners too! It was a very cool comp... Hopfully somthong like this comes up again someday!
Thanks guys. There was a LOT of inspiration from my fellow competitors and not the least of all inmygravenimage. I've never tried doing anything like that before. Has given me all kinds of ideas for future projects.
Thanks graven for putting on such a unique and cool competition. And thanks Brian for lending your expertise to the judging. I've very well versed in the fantastic constructs you create on a regular basis.
Thanks guys. After some struggling to find the right parts, the build went together very easily. The painting not so much for some reason... but in the end it turned out O.K..
As for our WIP winner, that goes to Storag (drop me a pm, eh?) and Rule of Cool goes for Vik's grot/he-man/manga mash-up for sheer bloody bonkers-ness
In other news, chez geek is getting... neither shelves nor cupboard.
Well, sort of.
I should probably point out this: It's a mighty good desk!
And actually, my display shelves are going to go on the wall; I have plenty of storage space in one of the other big cupboards. I'm itching to get back into plogging along, but there's a whole lot of family birthdays before xmas and then... well... xmas!
I agree vik. I have maybe 20 reaper ones, and 20-30 gamesworkshop ones. But I think I may have to cycle those out because I am in need of paints that will last.
Ahah - my experimental jump into the future worked! I arrived just in time to see graven getting a nice new area and redy to start roling out new goodies
hey monkey....under what stone were you hiding?...you have to have mossy shoulder by now
at nefarious...
and 20-30 gamesworkshop ones. But I think I may have to cycle those out because I am in need of paints that will last.
that is exactly the step i am dreading for...
how much money cold one still make with lots of paints from GW and then how much would it cost me to get me a good start in new droper bottle paints... ?
Woah now Vik, its nafarious (I don't care that much its just a clever play on words using my last name which is nafa)
and yea I know what you mean bud. It is reaper and P3 from here on out for me, I will use what I have left in GW but I don't plan on buying a single one more.
oi....reading sure can safe ones life one of these days
i have only two bottles of army painters devlan mud twin...but i really enjoy using these bottles...
the thing is...i haven´t found a single bottle here in a shop...everything would have to be ordered online....bummer...
I can find the sprays but no bottled paint. I live 10 minutes away from reaper though. Don't worry about getting the name wrong, it is the least of my issues. My girlfriend got mad at me for talking to her while she was getting ready, and now thinks I am mad because I didn't talk to her the whole time she was getting ready... I can't win -_-
My girlfriend got mad at me for talking to her while she was getting ready, and now thinks I am mad because I didn't talk to her the whole time she was getting ready... I can't win -_-
OMG.... it seems we still haven´t figured out that differnt lifeforms on earth should also include the possibility that females are indeed a different and very alien lifeform all in themselves....
I guess so vik. In other news since we are hijacking Graven's thread to talk about silly things. I just found a steal on some space marine on ebay! The day has been saved.
Haha I am not sure how much I want to do some space marines but you know when you see a deal that is good you just want to grab it. I ended up getting that old Space Marine Tac Squad and Drop Pod Bundle for only about 55$.
Now to figure out what kind of army I want to make. I think I may finally do my star phantoms.
Especially since from Forge world I have company tactics for them. Star Phantoms: Get to reroll ones on reserve rolls for deep-strikers and can launch army-wide twin-link on all weapons for one turn. Mass-droppod dakka hail of death!
I have been thinking about doing them for a while. It was either that or sons of medusa but I think I will just strip and redo the other few tactical squads I have from a commission go awry. So I either get my Star Phantoms tacitcs, or just iron hands stuff if I did sons of medusa :/ that's no fun.
I've reached new heights - my blog has had random chat takeover! Clearly, I am now one of the elite Got loads of painting done last night. Unfortunately, it was the bathroom.
Prizes will go out soon as I can find them (actually, I know where they are, they're just at a particularly inaccessible bit of garage). I've just hauled a pile of stuff out of the garage and it's with heavy heart (and light kidneys) that I've decided to sell of my IG army. It's over on the DCM trade thread, but if you're not one of us (for shame!) then pm me if interested in a ~£850 force for £350.
I'm not going to be back in the groove I reckon for a couple of weeks yet - school, #1's birthday - but will try to make a junkpile for Skalk's excellent new contest:
here's a general idea of how it would go:
- Pieces would be intentionally small. Bases would be no larger than a 40K 60mm round base, but no smaller than a WFB 40mm square base (exceptions- 25X50mm WFB calvary base, 25X70mm 40K bike base, WFB 20x80mm troop base). You do NOT have to use a GW base, I’m mentioning them only for scale ref.
- Timeframe would be 4 weeks w/ a one week 'stress extension' if absolutely necessary for extenuating circumstances, but no exceptions beyond that flex time and I would prefer to not have to use it. On average it takes (me) a few hrs to build and paint one of these. The only reason I'm going 4 weeks is because I want to make sure the latecomers have a chance to enter and finish a piece, also the opportunity to catch up for people that find IRL is suddenly affecting hobby time.
- I'm also thinking about assigning 3 classes for judging- Expert (we all know who these guys are), Normal People (ha!), and special category Lurker. Come on lurkers, I know you guys are out there. Speak up and join the fun!
Important note, no WIP pics here. My opinion is that participation drops when WIP pics are posted. That coupled w/ the 3 judging categories will (hopefully) increase participation.
UPDATE- I am working on the rules right now. So long as nothing stupid happens I'll have these up by Sunday at the latest. But I can announce the contest start and finish dates:
Start- 0000 Your time zone Friday Nov 15th End- 5pm MY time zone (EST) Friday Dec 13th
Start date is a week out because I'm hoping a few more lurkers will emerge from the darkness and join in. Plus I thought it was cool to end the contest on Friday the 13th.
Ok, enough messing around here, I have work to do. Again, HUGE thank you to all that have responded and joined. For you lurkers and new folks, there's plenty of time to join. Just post here and you're in.
1- Contest is open to anyone that wishes to join. Official start is Friday November 15th 0000 your time and official end is Friday December 13th @ 1800 EST. Your project must be completed and submitted for judging within the expressed time frame, there will be no extensions.
2- You are building a pile of junk out of junk parts. Must be a new project and you must provide me with one WIP picture that does not have paint. It is acceptable if a repurposed part on your model has paint from a previous project.
3- Piece must be appropriate for the W40K or WFB universe.
4- Must be on a base no larger than a 40K 60mm round base and no smaller than a WFB 40mm square base (exceptions- 25X50mm WFB cavalry base, 25X70mm 40K bike base, WFB 20x80mm troop base). See photo for reference:
You do NOT have to use a GW base, I’m mentioning them only for scale reference. You may build your own base from plasticard, hardboard, pre-fab from any manufacturer, whatever works for you. Just stay within the noted size limitations.
5- No WIP shots on this thread, and do not create direct links to your photos on this thread. Please post on your own thread or PM me w/ pics or link to pic location.
6- Submit your entry by sending me 1 'master copy' photo of your completed project for posting here, I will post your photo on Dec 13th. See additional photo requirements for the judging process at bottom section of rules.
CATAGORIES
Due to the overwhelming participation, I've created the following competition categories. I am requesting each contestant choose the catagory appropriate for their skill level. If the level chosen appears to be below contestant's capabilities based on examples of past wrok I will request they move to a higher catagory. If a participant is unsure of what category to join I will assign one for them.
Categories and qualifications are as follows:
Chaos Lord- Participants in this category have displayed incredible skill and have had their work recognized elsewhere, such as GW and / or other significant contests / publications / etc.
Exalted Champion- Participants in this category have not been officially recognized as above but display extraordinary skill. This is the minimum class for any Dakka contest winner.
Aspiring Champion- Participants in this category have displayed exemplary skill in their work.
Chaos Cultists- Participants in this category display noted effort in their work.
Chaos Spawn- Participants in this category are Dakka lurkers that have come forward and joined this contest. This is the only category that is not qualified by skill, so expect some distinct variety from this gibbering horde.
The purpose of the different categories is to ensure the most fair and balanced level of competition possible. If anyone feels they should be moved from their assigned category for any reason please PM me.
Scoring
Scoring will consist of 3 categories worth a maximum of 100 points overall. The categories are:
Bitz (30)- What you choose and use to build your piece
Impression (40)- Overall impression for the model as an entirety. Does the model shows scale perspective with all materials used? Were the materials varied and diverse? Does the paint and weathering compliment and define the overall build? Does the model tell a story? Does the model fit the 40K or WFB universe? Etc.
Scoring Criteria
Add points for:
No prefab, meaning a complete build of random junk bitz. Examples are crushed sewing thimbles, mechanical pen springs, soda can tabs, cassette deck components, little broken bits of plastic, etc.
Immediate +5 point Bitz bonus for anyone that sends photographic 'as it happened' evidence of picking up a piece of random junk from a parking lot, sidewalk, dumpster, etc.
Comprehensive list of parts you used
Neutral points for:
Majority non-GW prefab bitz from old models (1/35, 1/24, etc) like military vehicles, cars, trucks, etc.
Deduct points for:
Majority GW bitz
No list of parts / bitz
Base that is outside size limitations (exceptions as noted in individual requests)
Posting WIP on this thread
Poor quality / insufficient number of photos.
Judging and Winning Entries
Each category will have a 1st and 2nd place winner. There will also be a 'popular choice' vote where your vote bestows the honored title of Primarch to the overall winner. In the case of a tie in any category I will decide on the criteria to break the tie. Primarch votes accepted from Dec 13th to Dec 26th. Contest winners will be announced on Friday Dec 27th.
First place winners of each category will be awarded a personalized piece of terrain built and painted by me. Second place winners will be awarded a bag of bitz from my bitz box. Winner of the Primarch title will receive both. If Primarch title is awarded to anyone that placed 1st or 2nd in any category will receive cumulative prizes.
IMPORTANT Be sure to provide me with FOCUSED, CLEAR, and WELL-LIT pictures for judging. Minimum number of photos I am asking for is 5 but more is better and be prepared if I request more as I may need them for a tie-breaker or other decision.
If you do not have a device that can take a clean and clear photo, please consider getting assistance from a friend / family member, etc. It is not my intent to penalize anyone based on available technology or ability to use it but understand I will have to judge your piece by the pictures you provide.
Ok, so here's what I've found so far. Broken ends of an old SATA cable:
Shell casing
Nail tattoos that were abandoned in my classroom, iirc.
A Fancy hook, with the hook broken off:
Some test tubes:
A random pile of random: being some broken cake rods, a kids' smoothie lid, a board marker lid, a checker, half a plastic clothes peg, and a broken kids wizzy straw.
Those little plastic bits that hold toys onto cardboard boxes:
A bit of wire used for cake toppers:
Stuff left by the gas fitter:
Broken press studs from my coat:
And the innards of a clock dropped by my younger son:
Call me crazy, but I see a wrecked tank hull / engine block barricade in that lot...
I'm going to try to avoid using gs (gulp), instead using blu-tack hardened with pva. For rivets, I've got a burst bag of mini carpet tacks that I'm considering decapitating, or possibly cutting up the plastic stem of a remembrance poppy.
