Feth I wish I'd never bothered editing that post now

Can we skip past the book-inspired naming conventions of a character and go back to Skyrim? Or is it now too late?

It's okay, Tibbsy is probably new to the internet.

Pffft I'm not that new

I've just been reading the books recently... And he's an awesome character...

I would bet that at least 25% of posters on this site know who Bronn is or could guess the series he's from within 3 guesses.

Never heard of him but from your various responses i'm willing to bet Game of Thrones...

so I finally made another character, trying a 'realistic' play. Aka: a little as possible fast travel (only in dire need, or a massive trip ), eating meals, sleeping at inns, sleeping whenever ive been awake too long, no 'wait' function for more than a few hours, wear clothes in town, carry one set of armor, etc etc

kinda tough (to only hold one set of armor etc) because I dont have a house yet, but once I get one I'm gonna really start with earnest.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim @ 2012/04/25 14:01:35

Post by: pretre

The easy way to get a house is to marry someone. Cheap and easy. I think Ysolda is an easy one in Whiterun, just have to get her a mammoth tusk and she has her own house.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim @ 2012/04/25 14:14:51

Post by: Tibbsy

Breezehome (in Whiterun) is quite cheap to buy.... I've bought it already and I've only been playing a few hours... Although it's still pretty bare at the moment

Although granted I haven't been trying that 'realistic' approach At least not to quite the same extent....

EDIT: Added bracket for more info

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim @ 2012/04/25 14:16:37

Post by: pretre

Yeah, if you're trying 'realistic' then it can be a bit more difficult. Also might be difficult to get to your wedding if you don't fast travel since Riften is quite a haul from Whiterun.

There are a couple containers that don't respawn that you can use if you are desparate. There's a house on the way to Windhelm that has a safe container and is abandoned.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim @ 2012/04/25 14:28:56

Post by: Karon

Well, the guy with the wagon will take you on a trip to each major city for a small fee.

Its basically the same as fast traveling, but its totally justifiable realistically.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim @ 2012/04/25 14:34:39

Post by: pretre

True, I was skipping it since it was fast travel, but I can see where it would be acceptable.

So earliest you could get a house would be:
Get to Whiterun
Find a Mammoth Tusk
Give to Ysolde
Go to Riften by Wagon
Go to Whiterun by Wagon
Propose
Back to Riften by Wagon
You're married!

Cost you 100g for the wedding + wagon fees.

Camilla Valerius is a good choice too. You can marry her if you complete the golden claw quest. If her brother has an 'accident' then she runs the store as well.

Or you could always use the free housing glitch (not sure if thats been patched though).

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim @ 2012/04/25 14:53:45

Doesn't that require you to have the money and use a container not to spend it?

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim @ 2012/04/25 15:43:44

Post by: Battle Brother Lucifer

I already gave her a mammoth tusk so I might marry her. What does her house have?

Umm, bed and some containers. It isn't huge but it is passable.

http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Ysolda%27s_House

Oh, nm, just saw this:

If you chose to live here after marriage, sleeping in the single bed will still give you your Lover's Comfort resting bonus, but none of the containers are safe for long-term storage.

Skyrim's economy is horribly broken. Once you get 50 Smithing/Alchemy you can buy all the ingredients from a vendor, craft your items, and sell them back for a profit.

I've purchased the Solitude and Whiterun homes, all upgrades for them and the Dawnstar sanctuary and I still have 40,000+ gold left.

It's slowed.

Wait, so what you're saying is that a professional smith or alchemist shouldn't make a profit in an economy that isn't broken?

Ummm.

That's the fun thing about a single player game. It's kind of fun to have the option to overpower yourself, but you don't have to.

It doesn't effect anyone but yourself. Options are always good in games like this.

You'll find that in most mature economies that the manufacturers aren't the ones who obtain the materials. They get them from suppliers.

They comment on most of the artifact weapons. And, I had a few comment on Dragonbone armor when I was wearing that.

Yeah, most guards actually comment a lot on your equipment. 'Light armor means light on your feet, amirite?' etc so on.

I actually find it amusing to click through the guard responses for a while, fills out your map pretty nicely when they give you a bunch of mini-hooks.

Try shaving?

My most recent character actually stayed a werewolf. She's a Nord 2H fighter with heavy armor that I'm focusing on the Stormcloak quests with. Nothing like changing right outside one of the fort quests and just eating your way through an entire Imperial garrison.

They're actually referring to the fact that you're highly skilled in light armor (I forget what the cutoff skill level is), not the fact that you may or may not be wearing it.

Try doing that quest for that museum in dawn star. If you choose to kill him in the end, a new area should open up that spawns daedras regularly.

Failing that, there are some merchants who sell them.

the Great Wyrm's mod is cool.

It adds a new class of Dragons(you need to be Lvl50+) that are twice the size of Elder Dragons and have 1500 more health/treasure.

There is also Prides of Skyrim. It adds Lions and Panthers to Skyrim. Prides of Lions are found throughout the Plains areas and Panthers can be found in Marshes. They are pretty tough so be prepared.

Uncle Sheogorath's Really Helpful Hints and Tips is a hoot too.

I havn't come accross any good quest mods yet. Most of them are quite buggy.

O and all of these are Steam mods.

It's gonna be a while before there are any good quest mods for Skyrim. I can only think of a couple that were even decent for Oblivion, while there were dozens for Morrowind. As the complexity of the CK increases, the number of good quest mods seems to decrease quite rapidly.

The only decent mods out there are weapons, armor, textures, models, the alternative start mod, and a few player homes.

Oblivion had a really good Mod for an Evil ending to the Main Story, were you could join the Mythic Dawn and become a permanent member of such, to the point were you killed camoran and took over. I didn't work with KotN though, because the big Altar to Dagon was placed where the KotN temple is.

Hey guys!

Is anyone still playing this game, now that the new DLC is out?

Just started getting back into this again, and a couple of new questions if I may!

- Is the new DLC going to come out on the PS3? I see that the XBOX has got it, have they got some kind of exclusive deal I take it?

- Assuming it comes to the PS3 ( ), how does the new vampire/vampire hunter mechanic work? Specifically, I already have a vampire character - will he be changed from the crappy anaemic version with David Copperfield skills of the basic game into one of the quite horrible but awesome looking vampires of the DLC? Is is the same again with the werewolf?

- How does the new stuff in the game shape up? I'm particularly interested in the mounted combat!

In a way, I like that semi-realisim. If you know what your doing, you can get stuff easily right off the bat.

Of course Skyrim has its flaws. Namely the lack of good stuff to buy with all the gold you end up with. Oblivion had the opposite problem. No compromise?

I actually kinda wish they had kept the destructable armor and weaponry. That would have made a high smithing skill worthwhile once you actually got it maxed out. You can make the best armor and weapons, but you also gotta maintain them.

I also wish there were tradeoffs between armor types. Its not just a race to Daedric plate. Its like, "yeah you can wear this nice heavy armor, but it takes resources to maintain it and it slows you down"

Something like this perhaps?

So all armor(clothing too) will take damage over time. Both statically and as a result of combat(to represent things like rust, corrosion, etc...)

So you gotta repair your stuff. As it takes more damage, the armor provides less protection and requires more materials to repair. If it gets to zero the item breaks completely and you have to have it completely reforged(which costs almost as much as making a new one)

Repairing gear is what I miss the most from ES4.

Yeah, although I think Oblivion missed the mark on how they implimented it. Players complained and they removed it.

Some new Downloadable content has been released/is going to be released.

Haha right.. I remember that lesser demon thing (a skank? I forget the name) in the one town, who would pay full gold for any item, and whose gold stock would replenish very quickly. But, you needed it sometimes because of the insane costs of some of the spells/magic items!

Morrowind was probably the peak of the series for me, or at least the one I have spent the most time on. I thought Skyrim gave more freedom than Oblivion, but still not as much as that earlier game.

Now, if Bethesda ever wants some quick cash to the tune of a couple billion, they could just re-work Morrowind to have Skyrim graphics and combat mechanics. Not things like regenerating health and such, but just, well, physics in combat.

There's some fan mods that basically do just this.

Of course, they're PC only, and they require quite a powerful PC. But, they exist.

Total agreement. Morrowind was the game that set the bar for me. If only they could have such a large game witht he graphics that the newer ones had.

I meant more like dual-casting fire bolt at level 3/4. Win the game!

Could we actually have stats back? Cause that would be brilliant.
