Yes, they do.
@Ratius, listen to him is just stand there, and dont wait/rest or anything like that.
You just have to stand there, and he will begin to talk.
Its not a dialogue.
When doing an assassination for the Dark Brotherhood, I like to figure out who it was that commissioned the assassination (if possible). For example, Beitild (the miner in Dawnstar) has clearly had her assassination commissioned by her ex-husband.
Then, I go and get a Black Soul Gem. I soul trap the assassination target and kill them. Then, I take their soul to the commissioner and reverse pickpocket it onto them.
If I can't deduce out who commissioned the assassination (or if I'm killing a named character for another reason), I put the Soul Gem in my special "trophy" chest to leave them there for the rest of eternity.
It's been really cool lately, as I'm high enough level that many people flee/yield the first time I respond in a fight. That's usually my casting of Soul Trap. I like to think my reputation has proceeded me.
Its amazing how strongly bandits are convinced they are 'gonna find whoever did this'. Often they are so convinced they manage to say the words with a cut throat.
Was using Arngeir's word of power/dragon priest locater last night to get all shouts. Found 'throw voice' as a level 39 assassin
Its times like these i wish i just gave in and wiki'd everything like EVERYONE else here.
corpsesarefun wrote:As a vampire/assassin/thief the night suits me pretty well.
Is this with your Khajiit who was a werewolf by any chance?
Anyone listen to some of the Dark Brotherhood talking about their kills when you first enter? Seriously messed up story where the little girl kills a pedophile, not because of the fact that she killed a pedophile but because of the fact that they included it in game. Its like that one Thieve Guild member who has a story about her family being killed, her being abducted and raped by bandits, and then her slitting their throats before running away.
Nah my Khajjit werewolf is my unarmed character, sadly you can't be a werewolf-vampire.
I loved the little snippits of stories you hear about dark brotherhood jobs, I wish the quests themselves were that good
If you need words of power/Dragon priest masks ask Arngeir if he has 'Located any words of power'
He will tell you that he 'has felt the whisper of a word' and mark it on your map. It doesnt take long to find them all this way. As the dragon priests are without exception located near word walls it also means you can get hold of Super tuskface mask....... To put on your mannequin....
Be warned though, it can get VERY annoying trying to find Arngier inside High Hrothgar. The names Borri, Wulfgar and Einarth are burned into my synapses... If in doubt check the beds. 'Wake up old man! I dont care if it's 4.30am.'
I agree with that, but I thought more like a Fury Warrior in WoW. Dual wielding Daedric warhammers would be fething AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am in love with my Daedric Warhammer, it is my favourite weapon by far. It's obviously one of the slower weapons, but that's what makes it feel so "right". It doesn't feel odd or overpowered when I one-shot somebody, it would almost be weirder if they survived a mighty swing from the hammer. There is nothing more satisfying than having an enemy run at you, only to be brought low as you clobber them with a well timed standing power attack.
The one problem with such a powerful, slow swinging weapon is that enchantments on it are nearly useless. The one enchantment of any use at all is absorb stamina, as you can slowly regain your stamina with normal attacks if for some reason you run out. Absorb health and paralyze are both unnecessary. The rate at which you swing means the damage and leech of the health absorb is inconsequential and when you kill in one or two hits, paralyze hardly ever comes into play. Both of these enchantments I can see being extremely potent on a fast swinging, one handed weapon like a sword or dagger, but on a slow warhammer you just don't get much use out of them.
Stick some elemental damage on it then. Get a nice Thundercrack when you smack them down, or blast them with a fiery explosion- or shatter them into ice!
That's not a bad idea, if only for the cool effect. They suffer the same problem as the other enchantments though: slow swings means they don't do nearly as much damage as they would on a sword (although I guess you don't run out of charges as quickly!). It's a pity there isn't an enchantment that boosts base damage (edit: on a weapon). Even my gloves and boots give me +20% or whatever to 2-hand damage.

- Trainers in most thief skills.
- Easy to complete, infinite, minor thief missions such as burglary. (Numbers jobs are my favorite, easy to complete!)

- Some decent thief armor when you join.
- All the lockpicks you can buy.
That's all without actually doing the main Thief Guild story line.
edit: almost forgot the best part.

Yes, that quest where you have to sneak into the manor for the thieves guild I found to be one of the most enjoyable in the game.
Especially with the gauldir Amulet! lol. Jester hat + Nightingale armour and Gauldir amulet looks incredibly dumb. Not to mention the clipping issues with the ancient shrouded hands and feet. I mainly wear it for the stamina and anti-freeze buff.
Oh and spare me any 'lol the gauldir amulet suxorz' i like using named items. I like being reminded of the quests/dungeons i found them in, and 'forbidden legends' was a cool quest.
Does anyone know if you can get 'honed draugr' not-war axes? I love the 'ancient nord' weapon skin and honed draugr compares fairly favourably with daedric. After a sword or Bow.
Currently trying to figure out 'Kagrenzur,' Surely there's more to it than, an admittedly cool, long fall? I am hoping keening is the key. Kagrenzur=Kagrenac, Kagrenac's tools. Please do not spoil lol.
I don't get many ancient nord things at all, seeing as though my being level 53 means the vast majority of Draugr I face are Deathlords and around 75% of the weapons they drop are ebony, 5% glass, and about 20% ancient nord.

No matter how well suited the race stats were to thief/assassin, I could not bring myself to play a furry.
I should feel bad about the 7 Markarth guards i Gubbed in cold blood just to get hold of ten Dwemer cogs................
I could have snuck past them but hey..... Calcermo should really just close down the Dwemer museum, in my eyes its been an unmitigated disaster. Not only are the public not allowed in, 30 odd people have met unfortnate ends inside.
So the Dragon in the beginning of the game actually speaks while smashing the hell out of Helgen. Something about Sovngard.
Also I had a fun glitch happen earlier, while on my mage, my magic replenished SUPER FAST while I was still casting spells, so I could/would literally shoot fire balls like a machine gun. It was awesome

Did you just do the quest "Out of Balance"? (The one where you fix the locations around the College).
I think that's working as intended. Each one you fix either gives you a Soul Gem, does damage to you, or gives you that incredibly awesome buff. I've heard that it's a bug, but everyone seems to get it, so I think it's intended.

Nope this was before I did that, and it lasted the entire time I played until I shut it off. Sucked too, because I had gotten used to how badass I was with unlimited mana
Got jumped by two dragons outside Windhelm today. I was chasing down an outlaw for the Companions when suddenly I see a dragon in the distance... and then another swoops in!
Killed 'em both. I'm 7-0 in me v Dragons. I've stopped being afraid of them.
Ive yet to see ancient/elder yet with my main. Ive admittedly been hopping around from character to character checking out different aspects of the game
I've found something fun to do - soul trap a named character, enchant a weapon with their soul and name it after the character. You'll never have to miss your spouse, she'll be with you eveywhere you go.
I used to do that in Morrowind and its expansions with Vivec and whats her face. I had a pretty badass hammer I used the alchemy cheat on and called it the Vivicron. And a staff with the whats her face and an equally clever name as well. I rather enjoyed doing that. I might want to check that out as well.
Also, I hate enchanting while on the subject. It takes FOREVER and I just dont really care about the effects it can give me. I dunno......maybe Im crazy, I feel like I want to mine half the day, and spend the other half making cool gak for my shelves that vomit said items out on the floor

Right now I'm level 20 and have done most of the Thieves Guild quest line and none of the main quest. Thinking about doing the Companion or Imperial quests next as a klepto Wood Elf.
Finally got the Assassin's Blade Perk; tested it out on a Stormcloak, it was fine but then she burst into flames (Stupid enchantment) and had another two jump on me

I have to thank you for this statement. I just started the game last week and am used to normal 'finish the hub before moving on' rpgs. I've been in Whiterun trying to finish all the quests figuring eventually I'd move on to Riften and do the TG/DB stuff. Having realized that I can just go there, I'm off to Riften as soon as I get a chance.

I did that too - well not, Thieves Guild, but close enough.
I actually did none of the Stormcloak/Imperial bits either until way later either.
Spoiler:
I started the main quests first, and got to the point where you need to negotiate a truce in the civil war.
Only the war had not started yet, so no one would talk about negotiations to stop it.
So I had to start a war - well not Thieves Guild, but close enough.
In order to get them to stop fighting long enough to save them both.
Even though they were not fighting when this came up.

You found a feature, not a glitch.
Just be careful, heavy items can actually pull your character along, and you don't automatically drop it. I learned this the hard way, when I tried dragging a bandit off the edge of a cliff to hide the body from the other patrolling bandits. Well, I dragged the body over the edge, the body fell and pulled me right after it. My poor character died very confused about why I had her do that.
^ Can be fun, like the time I threw a hagraven off a tower, or my semi-ledgendary pile of 20 whiterun guards in the marketplace... ah, lazy days of slaughter...
Anyone else murdered the companions? I do have an excuse, the 2 brothers glitched so it was as if I was constantly activating them.
Often mid-swing in a power attack :/
So anyway, i beheaded one and stabbed the other.
And then decided that I don't like werewolves.
5 people left in whiterun....
Im sure 1 will be the Jarl, you cant kill the bastard. So Id guess the others would be ones that drive a quest somehow, and therefor you cant kill them. Thats why I miss the old Morrowind days, where when my blood lust got the better of me, I had to deal with the world I created
Day 223: 5 people left in Whiterun. Food running scarce will last less than a week.
Day 230: 4 people left in Whiterun. Enough food for another 2 weeks.
Day 250: 3 people left in Whiterun, me, myself and I.
Even though I reckon something gonna go down some and I is going to myself. Maybe I should move to a more populated area?
Braith (child)
Sinmar (guy in the inn) is essential, may change if Stormcloaks are defeated?
Mila Valentia (child)
Balgruuf the Greater (Jarl) is essential as long as he's Jarl, but can be killed if he's usurped
Dagny (child)
Frothar (child)
Hrongar (Jarl bodyguard) is essential, may change if Balgruff is replaced?
Irileth (Jarl's housecarl) is essential, may change if Balgruff is replaced?
Nelkir (child)
Proventus Avenicci (steward) is essential, may change if Balgruff is replaced?
Vignar Gray-Mane is essential, may change if Stormcloaks are defeated?
Lars Battle-Born (child)
Aela the Huntress is essential, but looses that if you marry her
Farkas is essential, but looses that if you marry him
Vilkas is essential, but looses that if you marry him
Olava the Feeble is essential, may change if you complete her Dark Brotherhood quest?
Even if you go out of your way to complete quests to make everyone non-essential, you're still left with 6 children (Braith, Mila Valentia, Dagny, Frothar, Nelkir, Lars Battle-Born), 2 Companions (2 of Aela, Farkas, or Vilkas), 3 rulers (same number of Stormcloaks and Imperial Legion supporters, since Hjornskar Head-Smasher moves in for Stormcloaks).
So, the best you can do is reduce Whiterun's population to 11 (from a starting total of 65).

That was one of the best parts of Morrowind, going completely nuts on spells and enchantments. I remember when we could have: Helm, Armor, Left Pauldron, Right Pauldron, Greaves, Boots, Left Gauntlet, Right Gauntlet, Shield, Weapon, Amulet, Belt, Pants, Shirt, 2 Rings, and a Robe for 17 enchanted items.
In Skyrim, you're limited to only 8 items
Also, Skyrim should have a toggle on whether or not being essential makes you unkillable. Sometimes, I want a character to just go nuts and kill everyone, even if it means I break quests.

Oh hell yea, it made the customization even better, and Im talking just for looks. Look, sometimes I want a shoulder to be larger then the other, sometimes I dont WANT a shoulder pad at all dammit!
But yea I used to go friggin nuts in that game. Once I got it on PC, I went even crazier. Heres a fun thing to do, make arrows and use spears as the image in the game, its fething awesome sauce. Then I got brave and decided to see just how far I could go with spell crafting until my computer exploded. I started in Balmora as always, and casted some crazy as nuclear explosion spell. For those just wanting to go nuts and be super OP, use the "fortify alchemy" enchantment on a set of gear (4 pieces, head, gauntlets, ring, amulet). Equip these and make a "fortify restoration" potion. Drink it, unequip then re-equip the alchemy gear and make another one. If you repeat this for long enough (the higher your enchanting/alchemy the quicker) you will start making fortify restore potions which boost MILLIONS of percent with the same effect on the alchemy gear. Then simply make a few enchanting and smithing potions which will also boost MILLIONS of percent. You can now improve/enchant armour to be invincible and 1 hit KO everything.
Is it because your wife knows not to go mining with you?
Yea its a funny story. We met, while I was doing said face bashing with my previous wife. I paused, thinking "crap I only brought enough tarps for 1 person" and she smiled and tossed a dirty shovel and a half empty bag of lime in her trunk. We never parted since.

Well, I used a nord twohanded heavy armor wearing smith for the stormcloaks.
kk, do you know which perks I should get for that build?
Well, if you are using heavy armor, I strongly advise you to get that perk that allows you move normally. It requires 70 I believe, and I think its called Conditioned. It should be on the same branch as the unarmed damage perk. You will need this to run down mages and archers, who WILL screw you over.
Smithing should go up to 100.
Twohanded...well, it really depends if you like hammers, swords or axes. I personnally prefer swords due to the extra speed
Also, whirlwind sprint is your best friend. Especially early off when you don't have Conditioned.

To be honest, it doesn't matter that much. The game is easy enough that you don't have to choose a particular style to be successful. I've made thieves, magic only and even a warrior who used no magic at all, and didn't really struggle at any point (perhaps with Dragon Priests and the bigger Dragon variety).
It's a shame that WoW seems to have been insidious in terms of its effects on how players approach other games - everything is about 'maxing out' or 'DPS', I think it's a great shame.

So when I was making all my Forgotten Realms charectors "back in the day" and giving my Mage low Charisma and Strength so I could bump his Intelligence up, I was actually "min/maxing"? Lame.
Intelligence is a prequisite for power in the mage class, the distinction is irrelevant.
Why wouldn't you try to make your charector as powerful as possible? That seems odd.
Joey wrote:Intelligence is a prequisite for power in the mage class, the distinction is irrelevant.

Well, for instance, when I make a character, I tend to have a few things in mind. While I try to keep his "main" attribute high, I then look at the "skill checks" he may be called upon, and look at what role he has in the party in relation to those, and base my attributes with that. I typically avoid having any one attribute at the racial minimum for that character (for instance, if I make a half-Orc, whose base INT is 8, I make sure that it is at least a 10, so that I don't get the penalty in INT)
IMO, Min-Maxing is where I would make a character and deliberately leave an attribute at that bare minimum in order to have a better "top" attribute
Because many people see winning/being powerful as less important than other thing.
In my D&D games I tend to play characters that are mostly balanced statwise and any high/low stats they have are big parts of the character, that low Int barbarian type is roleplayed stupid and the low cha mage is roleplayed as an donkey-cave.

It'd also give you more skill points, iirc. Though difference between 8 and 10 I can't remember.
Still it'd probably be better off in STR or CON.
Yeah if you want to make a more powerful character it's better in STR or CON but if you're trying to make a balanced or roleplay focused character then his technique is fine.
Trying to make the most powerful character possible by minimising some stats and maximising others is pretty much how min/maxing is defined.
corpsesarefun wrote:Yeah if you want to make a more powerful character it's better in STR or CON but if you're trying to make a balanced or roleplay focused character then his technique is fine.

If you're creating a character who has low Int and high Strength because they're a Barbarian, and you want to roleplay them as someone who thinks with their muscles and bulls through obstacles even when they shouldn't, that's fine. If you're creating a character with those stats because Strength is the primary fighting stat and the party already has a Wizard with high Intelligence, so you don't need that, it's MinMaxing. It's somewhat tame minmaxing, that pretty much all players do to some extent, but it's there. It's all a matter of reason, and how you end up playing the character that you've created, as well as the interactions between the given stats and the class. If someone made a character that was really high Con and Str, with low Int, Wiz and Cha, but that character was a wizard, well, that wouldn't be min-maxing. If a person used a Flaw system to get better stats or more feats, but the 'Flaws' they took were Double Amputee and Hydrophobia, it's not min-maxxing. If, however, they took No Tongue (being mute and having no sense of taste) and Unable to Sing, that could be min-maxing, because unless they're playing a Bard or other magic using class, those aren't big issues in a normal RPG campaign. And even as a Bard or Wizard or Sorc, there's ways around those 'penalties' that aren't that difficult, such as a Bard specializing in an instrument or dance, or Mages using Silent Spell metamagics.
I decided to make a character that I STRICTLY roll play with. And I modeled him after Robin Hood. So furs, and arrows and thats pretty much it. I decided that I will make my money not from stealing though (mainly since everyone is pretty much poor in this game) instead Ill hunt game and sell pelts and make armors and sell those. Its been a real fun time tracking down Elk/Deer and the like and hunting them. Ive also beeing stopping into the Inns for drink on occasion and even been konwn to chop wood from time to time. So far Im making pretty good money doing this, Ive currently just over 6k and Im a lvl12 from hunting and stalking and killing the random bandit.

Its been a real fun time tracking down Elk/Deer and the like and hunting them. Ive also beeing stopping into the Inns for drink on occasion and even been konwn to chop wood from time to time. Have to say, Im really enjoying this character
You know that there are random enounters with rich gits? Like that lord on a horse.
Yes, I know, Im sure Ill stick an arrow into their faces and rob them I should of said my character is loosely based on Robin Hood. Not really into the steal from the rich give to the poor type. Im mostly out there tracking and hunting. Its been a blast just exploring the vast that is Skyrim

I used to explore Skyrim, but then I realized that there are too many dragons in Skyrim and that whenever I run away from them I run into a bear, or a bandit camp, or a giant camp, or sometimes if I'm extra lucky another dragon. One time I fought an elder dragon and a blood dragon at once.
Yea I remedied that, I never started the whiterun quest And Ive been staying away from those dragon lairs or whatever the hell they are called. So far, lvl15, and no dragons

With my assassin, Id just slit their throats for speaking those words. Somehow, someway, Im balancing out the Universe
The only way to balance the Skyrim universe is to destroy all bows and arrows and then remove all knowledge of archery from the galaxy. Either that or remove everyone's knees.
KingCracker wrote:Yea I remedied that, I never started the whiterun quest And Ive been staying away from those dragon lairs or whatever the hell they are called. So far, lvl15, and no dragons
Yes that's the thing to do, if you don't start doing the main quest line then no dragons show up. It's kind of possible to live life as just a normal citizen in Skyrim without ever realising you are the Dragonborn.
So far, no clue Im half dragon, and I wont lie, its been great. Im thinking about starting a story in the RPG section of this character. Thinking kindda like hes writing in his journal of his adventures. I went towards whiterun, and then just went west for days hunting and tracking. Ive almost talked myself into doing the journal thing on here.
Also, anyone know if I find a shack in the middle of no where, and put my own items in the barrels and so on, would they stay there? Because I dont own a house, and Im wanting to find a shack out in the wilds to call my own, but I dont want to start dropping my stuff there and on the shelves and find out later that oh darn that thing I was saving, is now gone.
Containers in purchased or rewarded homes are almost always "safe".
The wardrobe in Riverside Shack.
The end table located in the Alchemist's Shack.
The Apothecary's Satchel located in the cellar of Anise's Cabin.
Containers in Delphine's secret room in the Sleeping Giant Inn, Riverwood.
The chest outside in front of High Hrothgar where you put Klimmek's Supplies
The contents of traditional containers will reset within a specific period of time; making them useful only for short term storage. Some containers never reset however, and are therefore considered safe for long term storage.
You'll want to wait around for a while and make sure nobody else lives there. If they do, you could kill them and claim it for yourself, but who knows.
Nobody lives in the Alchemist's Shack AFAIK, but there's a bear lair nearby, and a scripted mob further up the road towards Ivarstead you might want to be careful of.
Aww perfect! Its even close to one of my hunting areas. I hunted all the way up to Solitude and decided to join the Legion, some of the missions feel a bit like scouting so I figured why not .
I only heard him and his brother use it as a WoW term for REALLY low levels (2-3) who had all the best gear possible at that level and have it all enchanted and crap
Aye in WoW twink is the term of a player who keeps a character at a PvP lower brackets, and pretty much overloads it with the best gear, items and enchants, that before certain updates, where insanely above their level. Such as, until the change of making leg enchancements from Leatherworking level based, you'd have lvl 19's with lvl 70 stat bonues.
They then go in and dominate the hell out of the pvp scene, and made it a nightmare for folks pvping as they level through the game.
Brackets changed about a year and ahlf ago though, so there was no more ten level gaps in the brackets. This means you don't tend to get twinks one shotting folks anymore, hence a fair few stopped doing it.
The only thing my History of English professor could tell me about my attempts at the accent is that I had studied Latin and German at some point, and that I was from northern Ohio...
I cried because she was absolutely correct >_<
Edit: KC, I like the idea of playing a hunter in Skyrim. I might go do this, and never play any of the main storyline...
Sad day, while I was conscripted into the Legion, I was forced to start the blasted Dragon Quest. Itsa good thing Im so good at sneaking around in the forest, I just hope that the game I hunt, wont become an early morning snake for some damn flying lizard.
Did anyone see the article about Felix the peaceful monk on the front page of the Wall Street Journal? I had heard of him before, but it was cool to see it on the front page of the WSJ.
If you haven't seen that it's a great case study on yorkshire.
Seen it, used it as a reference, showed my class, as well as a story I found on youtube.
The worst part about this is that we have a professor at my university that has moved to America from Yorkshire, and while she hates my writing, I love her accent...

Yorkshire accent is actually quite similar to Northern German accent, people from Yorkshire often find it easy to learn German.

Use Spells, not Swords! Remember kids, mind-rape and manipulation is the way to deal with people who wish you bodily harm, not killing.
If you don't get caught, you don't need to fight!
Dragon eating a town? Sorry, the Dovahkiin doesn't go in for that 'killing' thing.
While I can appreciate the thought that's gone into the character, and was even tempted to do something similar myself, I dislike how the WSJ is treating 'Pacifism in Video Games' as the only 'right, proper and Christian' way to play- at least, that's the undercurrent I was getting. When playing a video game, you need to take into account the setting, the culture that the game is trying to immerse you in, and exactly what the alternatives to 'nonviolence' entail. Sure, you could probably play GTA without killing people, but you're still smuggling drugs, jacking cars and evading the police.
What I'd love is if there was a way you could arrest folk- play a guard, or a free-lance officer of the law, busting smuggling rings and breaking up bandit dens.

Really? I can kind of see some similarities but I'd need to see some videos of north german folk speaking.

I definitely see your point. I just thought it was cool/funny that skyrim and felix were on the front page haha
Well I took the plunge and made a similar character to felix, but as not to copy him completely, I used an Argonian Its great too, because Ive never actually had an Argonian character....ever.....in any TES games. And I must say, it is rather difficult not killing anything, specially in dungeons. And I was almost stumped when I went to get the dragon stone for that terribly acted Mage in Whiterun. How exactly do I get his stone, without killing HIM So I just played rabbit and let him chase me to soem traps, and presto changeo, I ran back and forth through them until the axes killed him. TADA! Same with Dragons so far, I havnt hit ANYTHING in this game let along kill em. Its a nice change of pace I can tell ya that.
I did find an old shipwreck at the bottom of the ocean.
Sadly, I didn't have a waterbreathing enchanted item on me, and it was far enough down that I wasn't able to fully explore it with a waterbreathing spell.
Keep in mind that non-argonians can hold their breath for about 2 minutes before your health starts going down. Unless you are in REALLY deep that time is normally sufficient to find stuff.
As a fellow blackmarsher I'm also disappointed by the lack of underwater adventuring. I ran across a half sunken castle the other day and was like "alright, time to get some argonianing done". Nope, pretty dry in there.
Something I hadnt really paid attention too until now, uhm....why cant I attack under water? If I cant cant attack, at least poke things in the eyes, then why the FETH did they include attacking slaughterfish? I just dont get it.
I hate walking into shallow water to try and hide from dragonfire (doesn't work, rage) and being unable to attack the dragon despite half my body being out of the water.
I decided to make the non-attacking monk character. Its interesting, but annoying when you are by yourself, and run into those randoms on the road, (e.g thalmor etc.)
JohnnoM wrote:I decided to make the non-attacking monk character. Its interesting, but annoying when you are by yourself, and run into those randoms on the road, (e.g thalmor etc.)
No way, I find it SO much easier by myself. Im blasting so many calm spells all over the place its awesome. And its nice to "practice" by shooting everyone I see in a town and not get arrested for it.
Its incredibly tough/difficult with others with you, because their kills fething count as yours for some annoying reason. When I first met Esbern, and was trying to get him out of the ratworks.....holy...fething....god! I literally reloaded the game 5 times, because somehow he kept killing something. Its definitely a challenge thats for sure.

I believe it does, but I'm not 100% certain.
In fact, I think that even scripted deaths not caused by you count for your kill total. They definitely can screw up the Thieves Guild quests where you get bonuses for not killing anyone.

I would say maybe assault at the most, though I havnt tried this personally. I burnt out Skyrim ages ago. Shame really.... I had hoped it would eat alot more of my time like Oblivion.
Yea I figured it would, oh well. Playing this way is very tricky though, and also why it makes the game so fun/challenging. But obviously there is some crappy parts to it as well. Basically I cannot take a companion, so ANY quests with someone following me, is 50x more difficult because I have to sling magic at EVERYONE before companion runs someone through. So this means some quests are just impossible, like I said, it took me 5 tries to get Esbern out of the ratway for feth sake.
And dont get me started on dragons, I have a few shouts Im looking forward to getting.....but....Ive got to wait till Dragons attack towns and just heal everyone until they kill it, so any dragons in the wild, Ive got to run away like a scared child
Well, I've just finished the Civil War quests. That was fun, although it was easier charging in with axe and spell than sniping away with a bow like usual. Diplomatic Immunity was a fun quest, if only because you get to shoot Thalmor.
^ Ah, the Thalmor - those guys are a pleasure to tear apart To be fair though, I do enjoy killing anything and everything that crosses my path, but I take great pleasure from killing a Thalmor justicar team without feeling any guilt whatsoever. Not so arrogant when they're dead...
Not if you throw them in a river. Out of sight, out of mind, after all.
Out of interest, what's the favourite destruction magic element, shock, ice or fire?
I prefer fire, myself, when I'm fooling about as a warmage, I love the smell of burning elf in the morning
Grey Templar wrote:Fire does the best damage, except for Icestorm
I'm a Nord, I'm 50% resistant to Frost. Why does this spell kill me in 1 second
I have max resistance to all magic and it can still feth me over too. I'm level 50-something, i'm resistance to basically everything, I eat any mob for breakfast/dragon for lunch/another few for dinner, and yet a measly ice mage or necromancer can hurl this thing at me and it'll hit like a truck.
Anyways, I find that I use Fire a whole bunch, simply because it seems like it outranges the others, at least at lower levels. Shock's very useful as well, when you have a boatload of Magicka, and you can use it to drain enemy mages enough that they'll be powerless for a while. Cold, I guess, would be helpful against Melee combatants, but as most of them are either Nord or resistant to Frost anyways, you may as well use Fire for its DoT effect.
Im partial to shock. Dont people know by now that their swords conduct electricity?
As a side note, im hunting dragon priests now. Fun to collect all their masks from their beaten bodies, and a nice challenge.
All those against Sithis and the night mother may find themselves in a sudden and lethal prediciment as well.
GAH! Not killing got the better of me. While trying to not step on butterflies something in my brain snapped and I just couldnt stand not killing things. So I made a super criminal donkey-cave killer guy, and made good and sure to make him a werewolf. So far, Solitude says they will pay someone 25k gold to bring me to justice. Im not sure exactly how high my total bounty is, but its pretty fething high. I just slaughter things and laugh about it. So I joined the DB again, and figured, instead of being a subtle assassin, Ill fething slaughter an entire family, 6 guards and a puppy on the way out of a job. That way people wont think it was an assassination, it was some poor sap that got in the way of the big scary Werewolf.
Ive used freeze form more then a few times, its great for thinning out groups. But on my super sissy "I cant kill anything" mage, I use the one that makes enemies Flee, that thing is handy, lure a group into a narrow hallway, and shout them all away.
I was mountain climbing with my horse (they are unnaturally good at it) and got to the tip of one of the mountains, Im talking I was WAY up there. And as I was swinging the camera angle around for that awesome save screen shot, my horse didnt want to live anymore, and just kindda fell off. Well it sucked because we fell far enough to kill the horse, but not me, which when he fell and died, caused me to go OVER the ledge he landed on. And Im not even kidding, a good 15-20 seconds of comic book hilarity, I was bouncing, tumbling and sliding all the way down the mountain to my death. I finally came to rest and the bottom of the mountain, in a stream. It was hilarious.
I was being chasedby a bear one time and didnt want to bother to stop and kill it, so i climbing up the cliff. Suddenly, a wild dragon appears. As im trying to run towards it, i dont realize theres a steep cliff edge, which i then accidently fall off. After tumbling for 5 to 10 seconds, my horse dead, im finally about to get up, when the bear comes back and knocks me on myass. As if it cant get any worse, the dragon comes back, breathes fire on me, lands, and finishes whatever life i had left.
Game over man.
Funnily enough, on the 'can't die' note, Shadowmere tanked the entire Elder Dragon fight. When it flew off I thought she had died. But when I got to where it landed I found her again, still kicking the dragon in the face.
Its like playing a tank pally in WoW, just tons of fun, as you pretty much never die.
Status report - I think the people in Skyrim are cursed, or made the Gods angry, because thieres this crazy friggin Werewolf that is going around ripping faces all over the damn place Seriously, if you find yourself ina fantasy world walking down a road, and you pass someone that smells of dog, run your ass off.
Also dawnbreaker + spellbreaker is an awesome combo, undead (draugr, vampires, skeletons, ghosts and etc) are decimated and shouts (including dragonfire) are pretty much nullified
Then you take the arrow blocking perk to prevent archers from doing any damage and heavy armour to minimise melee damage.
Gah.
I tried to put my old daedric sword on display in my house, but I ran out of display cases.
"No Problem" I think to myself, "I'll just place it on top of the other sword in an open display case, then close it, it'll have the same effect."
Do some enchanting work on my new armour.
Come back to the words "I saw it first!" and see Aerin (Mjoll The Lioness' freind (I'm married to her)) lying dead on the floor, killed by either my wife or my housecarl, who are busy fighting over my sword.
I can't make the corpse disappear, so I had to make him a contortionist in my housecarl's room.
I just finished making a daedric armour set (with the ridiculous stats exploit of course) and its something like this:
Helmet: Fortify destruction and archery
Armour: Fortify Health and resist poison
Gauntlets: Fortify one and two handed
Boots: Fortify carry weight and muffle
Shield: Fortify block and resist magic
Ring: Fortify unarmed and pickpocket
Amulet: Fortify lockpick and sneak
Let me tell you its fun sneaking in plain eyesight of an ancient dragon, standing up, not being even hurt by the fire and then one hit falcon punching it in the face.

I've heard about this and just don't see the appeal. God mode is only so fun for so long. I find it more enjoyable to take things down the hard way.

I know what you mean but its hard to know "how much" power makes the game enjoyable but not too hard (lvl 60 on master). I even before i discovered the exploit my armour (completely legit, improved to legendary with no potions) made me still all but unbeatable. Before I had 4 pieces of armour with 40% fortify one handed, my daedric sword did 300 damage (Alduin went down in 3-5 hits). I thought if I was going to be OP I would be OP overkill.

Thats one of the few things I simply cannot stand about Skyrim, is the friggin unkillable people. Look, if I want to ruin my chances of doing the Companions questlines by killing them all in a fit of rage, goddammit I should be able to
I've cleared Geirmund's Hall but am a little unclear on what the Raised Stone that's in the pool of water when you drop down the hole does.
I've read the wiki and it mentions that it opens a secret door but can't seem to find said door. I've watched a few vids on youtube about it but they don't seem to even touch it.
To access the hidden underwater chamber you must open the door by activating the Raised Stone underwater, immediately below the hole you just jumped down.
Whether or not it grants passage to a secret door I don't know, I would just like to know what it does, if anything
In other news, I finally hit 100 enchanting and was excited to upgrade all my equipment. Oh, you mean I can only put two enchants on NEW equipment? Sunova...
Any reason to keep capturing tons of souls after you hit 100 other than money making? I have dozens of gems now that I capped out and the petty/lesser/common just don't seem useful. You can't sell them for more than the raw cost of the unfilled gem, so it seems like a wash.
I wish there was a way to scrub enchants off items or rename them once you already have them. Oh well.
I was on a lovely walk with Lydia when I saw a fight between Stormtraitors and Imperial soldiers. I helped slay the filthy traitors but as I slayed the last an elder dragon swooped down. It´s breath attack drained half my health before It was attacked by a bear. It flew of to the other side of a river where it killed a mudcrab. Being a brave citisen I charged. However I was forced to use cheats not to die. The dragon threw me into a cliff where I got stuck. But then, from nowhere a horse came and attacked the dragon. The dragon was to occupied with trying to kill me the horse was able to knock of almost all its health. In the distance I could see a bandit fighting a Sabertooth. After a while the bandit slayed both the horse and the Sabertooth. Luckily I managed to get out from the cliff and slay both the dragon and the bandit. Hurrah for horses!

Unsure if this has been posted before, but if it hasn't it really needs to. Remember that little week that Valve had off which led to Portal 2 being created, well Beth had one too. Because of the Steam modding community and DLC I'm thinking that its going to be pretty likely that the better (hell there all great) mods from this will be making it into the game at some point this year. ^^
Thing is that stuff like that was created for oblivion and fallout by independant modders. Now Obsidian took clear hints from the community and implemented them in New Vegas, but I feel as though Skyrim's only done this to a lesser extent. Sure the game actually feels like an Elder Scrolls game, citing Oblivion here which had a generic fantasy atmosphere, but it would have been nice if the stuff that was shown in the video had been in the game from the start. I mean it took under a week to code those mods (though they are only implemented to a limited extent), I doubt it would have messed around with the game's deadlines too much to add seasons, better shaders or those extra kill anims .
That giant mudcrab boss battle would have been so epic if it had been included in the game. They damn well better include that in a DLC.
They're just the same as those hosted by Skyrim Nexus, though in a lesser quantity. At the moment the quality range seems to be the same despite Betheda's claims to the contary, ie you still get silly texture mods, though no entirely useless files yet unlike on the Nexus. The Nexus just seems to me as a lot less convoluted host.
I clicked a single button that downloaded and then installed the mod, that button also subscribed me so all updates for it are auto-downloaded and then installed when I boot up the game.
I haven't looked into it much, but this is just my inital impressions of it. I guess its just me being used to the Nexus' system, but that one felt foreign to me too when I was coming to it from Planet Eldar Scrolls. Admitedly I think that I'll be sticking to the Nexus for my mainstream modding and only really using Steam for its exclusive mods-ie Bethesda content that they release as free DLC as has been promised.
Unfortunately Steam can suffer from terrible download rates for me, 750kps, whereas the Nexus rates are much higher. Right now I've got Skyrim in an "update paused" state after I opted into downloading the high res texture pack and found that I was still at 1% after a half hour. Unfortunately with Steam you can't cancel an update once its started, so now I've got that thing over my head. =/
Oh yeah, but I'm noting that the larger mods are each a few Gbs in size and I don't think Steam has really done much to accomodate for them. Sure most games are of a similar size and no faster rates are offered, but you can cancel downloading those and play something else (or install from a disk). With mods it means that your game's unplayable due to updating until they're installed. =/
Spears, Mounted Combat, and follower commands would make part of a great expansion.
The Thalmor decide to finally invade Skyrim after whichever side you take's quest (Romans or Galecapes), and you're called upon by their respective leaders to lead a section of the army in defence of Skyrim, and assault of Thalmor holdings in the area, before branching out into Cyrodiil and sparking revolts there (Cyrodiil expansion) etc. etc.
Spears + Mounted Combat = Lances or simply just mounted combat, and follower commands = commanding the troops that you're in charge of.
You get to choose which troops you command to better suit your style, such as warriors leading H2H infantry or cavalry, archers leading... well, archers and mounted archers, mages leading, again, mages and mounted mages, and so on; perhaps even allowing you unit certain specialisations.
Specialisations could be things like Stealth Insertion for unmounted melee, where you lead your unit deeper into enemy lines and closer to vulnerable targets, so that when the battle starts you can start to inflict pain from the get go; you would, of course, have a chance of failure, resulting in you having to fight your way out and the battle occuring as normal.
Mounted melee could have Lance Formation, which is pretty self-explanitory.
Regular archers could get a version of Stealth Insertion (perhaps all unmounted units get access to it; it's the only thing I could see as benefiting every class), and mounted archers could get the Encircle Formation, where they ride around an enemy unit in circles, both grouping them up and keeping their distance.
Regular mages could also get SI, and mounted mages... this one is a toughie, perhaps a Death Wall formation, where the unit lines up and rides towards an enemy unit with a wall of fire/frost/lightning in front of them, with each mage contributing the right spell (Flames, Sparks etc.) adding to the damage caused on impact (meaning that the first rank or few of enemy soldiers could literally go flying if you and your unit can produce a large enough wall).
Both mages and archers on foot get access to a stake wall, giving them defence against enemy cavalry, and warriors on foot can call a spear wall formation if they're in unit of spears, but if they're not, then they can brace against it.
Since these battles will be a much grander scale, regular spells will be quite useless against hordes of enemies, but mage units can combine their spell power (also where the combining spells mod could come in). A Fear spell cast by you alone might scare off a few enemies, but one cast by a whole unit could deter a whole unit of enemies at once.
The spells you currently have equipped will become the ones your unit uses (so you could become a moving first aid station if you don't want to kill), and when you're not casting, they can passively use the spells against the nearest enemies/allies if you order them to.
Any units you target will become the primary target of your units, and each mage in your unit increases the power of the spell, as long as they are also casting it; you might have a stupidly high magicka pool, but they won't, so it adds a tactical element even if you have huge magicka buffs; do you keep casting, or do you let your unit rest?
Of course, you can order them to regenerate their magicka if you want them on full powah for something like a huge fireball, and then order them to fire on your target, throw your fireball, watch their fireballs join yours in midflight and watch the unit you fired at die in a raging inferno.
Archers can work in similar way. With the fire/frost/shock arrows (another mod entry), you can order them to switch, which will automatically call an allied unit of mages over to enchant their arrows (you can't control the mages, so don't draw them away from a task they need to deal with, or into the line of fire, making these arrows a tactical decision). Order passively shooting, or order them to cease fire so that they can preserve ammo (unlike other archers, I think they should have limited ammo, which would be displayed) if you want, or to pick up fallen arrows. You could also order them to focus fire on an enemy unit, like a group of mages about to roll away your leader's unit.
Warriors would be outfitted similarly to whatever equipment you had at the start of the fight, so if you want HW/S soldiers, equip a sword and shield, but you can switch part-way through if you want. Spears can form a spear wall, shields can form a shield wall, but two-handed weapons can only brace. Spear wall absorbs an enemy charge (reducing unit damage taken by X%) and deals a percentage of the damage absorbed to the enemy, Shield wall simpy absorbs the damage, and Bracing absorbs a significantly smaller amount of damage.
A unit ordered into a wall or brace takes a small amount of time to reform out of it again, allowing you to order your unit into a feigned charge where half your unit sets up a charge, whilst the other half runs/rides around. The charging half pulls away at the last second, allowing the other half to smash into the unit whilst they're busy reforming.
There's a chance the enemy unit's leader will see through the deception, and adjust their position to the non-feigning half, resulting in a regular charge (so still risky against spear units), but this chance is lower against mounted units, since they give less time to decide.
Of course, an enemy unit can try it against you, and you have to order your unit to brace or charge themselves according to the enemy's actions.
I speak a lot about units, and hopefully it shouldn't be too hard to implement. Units would share a unit health pool, and a morale pool, which is lowered as casualties are taken and will force any survivors to break and flee upon reaching 0. Those fleeing members are then independent targets, even if they all regroup, since it's a loose regroup and they're far more likely to break again.
Fear spells or passive effects (like being a higher level) can lower the morale pool to a certain point based on their power (with powerful fear spells concievably breaking a healthy unit), and fire spells/arrows also reduce morale in addition to morale damage caused by casualties.
Whichever unit you target becomes your unit's primary target, with units targeted in the process being attacked if you stop dealing damage to the primary unit for a certain period of time; the new primary target will be the unit you caused the most damage to in that period of time.
Your unit also shares a health pool, and a seperate morale pool. Seeing you killing enemies increases morale, as does your use of Dragon Shouts (which reduces morale in enemy units). You gain a new Dragon Shout which emboldens your allies, and any fleeing allies within a given distance automatically regroup and become immune to morale damage for the duration of the shout's effect.
Cavalry charges also reduce morale for the defending unit, as does your use of shouts. Also, your rank will finally mean something, with a higher rank granted by your leader increasing the passive morale damage you cause against enemy units.
I realise that this has gotten really, really, really long-winded and perhaps even strayed into the realms of "Okay, half of this stuff is really difficult to implement, the other half is impossible." but oh well, I needed to let my creative juices out somehow, and it was either this or self-abuse.
Magic could use an overhaul. Like copy-pasting the Oblivion ability to custom make spells(but make it extremely difficult to create a really powerful custom spell)
i was doing the imperial quest chain, and got up to the "being the generals messenger bitch" quest. But I hadnt finished the dragonstone quest, so I have to do it to be able to continue the imperial chain, arrrgghhh!

Wha? You don't need to play the main quest to complete the civil war questlines. In fact the main quest postpones them near the end, but you can finish them once its done.
Spoiler:
I choose to finish the Imperial questline just before the treaty signing so as to see the dead characters in Sovngarde. Its an Eldar Scrolls game, the main quest is purely optional.

That's not entirely true. He hasn't done Dragon Rising yet, which puts you in an odd place in the world.
Balgruuf won't accept to read the message before Dragon Rising has been completed.
Although I don't play 360 (don't have one) I think the Kinect shouts would just be awesome. Means there'd actually be a reason to shout "Fus Ro DAH!" at your screen- and would help immerse you into the combat more, since you'd not need to go hitting a button for it, but could just Shout when you feel the timing is right.

How odd that is seeing as none of the civil war quests are related to the main quest (I can't recall there being any mention of Alduin by either faction). Rather silly not to at least kill the first dragon, I mean Dragons are such a great part of them game.
I choose to cure my lycanthropy: doesn't seem that useful in later levels. Plus being an attack dog for all eternity in the afterlife sounds like it kind of sucks.
I dunno, its satisfying taking a fort, but you can do that anyway :/ battle for whiterun was ok, could have been bigger though...
On another note, vampirism is fun!
Except for travelling and fighting in daylight, which doesn't seem a big deal until you realise you can't do it anymore (or not easily, anyway )
But the bloodsucker bonuses are nice...

Yea I completely agree. Id like to add, the only reason to play both sides, is to get the satisfaction that you killed the leaders of both, because they too, are INSANELY FETHING BORING! I mean CHRIST! One is the leader of a rebellion, trying to topple an oppressive Empire. The other is a general that is supposed to crush them like dogs! And yet, they are both so fething dull about it. GAH!!!!!!!!!

What's odd is that all the bad guys are the most interesting people in the game...
couple of questions:
1. Who has finished the imperial storyline and gotten the sword from Tullius?
2. What was the sword, what level were you?
3. Which armours exactly are light armour (including 1 off ones.)

Im currently level 19, wear blades armour (full), combined with an enchantment that gives me +13 health, a amulet that gives +10 health, and use dragonbane + grimsever. My housecarl (Argis the BulwarK) wears orcish armour.
Im satisfied.
I tend to play with how my characters look. I HAVE full Daedric armor, but I personally dont care for the look of it, specially the helmet, dear god who designed that fething thing? So I went back to my badass Ebony Armor.
So I grabbed the "more powerful" daedric weapons mod yesterday and my dawnbreaker (exquisite) deals 70 damage plus 35 fire damage and all it's normal effects. For my level 32 paladin with around 50ish onehanded skill this isn't bad at all.
I also realised that I was running "high" graphics settings with the high res texture pack at 60 fps so I gave "ultra" a try and I can run that with 40 fps, the transitions are noticeably rougher but everything looks SO PRETTY
I don't like Skyrim. *Prepares self for a volley of arrows aimed at his knees*
It might be because SWTOR came out soon after I got it, or maybe the fact that my PC is now totally out of commission so despite wanting to play it, I can't. I nevertheless did a few quests, got three characters to level six each and saw enough of the world to form an opinion of sorts. And I just don't love the game like I did Morrowind or Oblivion. I'll try brainstorm my reasons:
-The setting. It's utterly boring. People might highlight the varied environments: 'Fjords! Tundra! Forests! Mountains!' but I find it utterly depressing. I miss the verdant woodlands of Cyrodiil, the rolling green hills... the lowland swamps. Along with its snowy peaks. THAT was variety. With Skyrim I was hoping for green woodlands in the south of an alpine sort, with the inevitable rocklands and snow further up. I guess I sort of imagined Scotland with some tundra thrown in.
-The voices. Oh GOD Schwarzeneggers everywhere, equally annoying Swedish accents... human women who should have been cast as the Khaajits and even the odd crazy Dutch accent. I was hard-pressed to find voices that didn't irk me to my soul!
-Inevitable hybridisation: I like to roleplay. The first thing I did was step out and attempt to make my three characters: Warrior, Assassin and Mage. Yet I find little reason to not hybridise. I understand that it makes the game more 'accessible' and is easier-going for noobs. But running around with a sword in one hand as a mage and being at liberty to level any skills I want? Well, my inner meta gamer can't be silenced and forced to go 'fair enough, I'll just continue to limit myself for my own satisfaction'. I'm not sure I've explained this complaint well, but I don't like how skills aren't 'cut off' for me like they were in Oblivion. Admittedly, a starting level of 25 in a skill and making it contribute toward my level wasn't a TOTAL lock off, but it made my characters go down niches that they just don't have to in Skyrim.
It's a console port with graphics to match: I shan't go on about the interface as that just speaks for itself. But the graphics. Oh LORD the graphics. Admittedly Oblivion had the same problem (view distances that meant that looking across a lake resulted in some blotched hill with a couple of sprite-looking trees on it, I remember getting a massive anti-climax when I left the Imperial City sewers and saw those). But look at anything in 'lush' Skyrim up close and you see a fuzzy mess. When I did the trek from Riverwood to Dragonsreach (I forget the town that it's in) I couldn't help but let out a groan as I stepped over the crests of the rocks to see that flat grassland before me; the buildings in it looking like boring blotched textures and the ground itself utterly flat, barren and characterless. If we get mods for draw distance and detail, I am getting them first. Oblivion was gorgeous when I got a mod that drew all objects like I was standing next to them for a given distance. But I blame the ECKS BAWKSS once more for holding back capable hardware. Guess it's hard to fault Bethesda on this count (well, they could've made it a PC-led project so we actually got the gorgeous graphics from the beginning; but why take a hit to your profits when demand is going to be total the moment a box gets 'Elder Scrolls' stamped on it?)
I have no idea what's up with my PC and I am just too busy at uni to bother myself with it, but when I do fix it I intend to give Skyrim a second chance. But in the meantime, these are my views of it. Hate me if you will. I saw that I can now get an HD texture pack through Steam, that will definitely be a must. Maybe my few month hiatus will result in me coming back to a game that can be modded heavily, if so, then I might fall in love with it. For now though, my 'amateur review' is a resounding 6/10. I want nothing more than to enjoy this like I did Oblivion; I want to be playing it on/off until the next game comes out, mods and new content keeping me persistently entertained. The only thing I can't imagine is rolling many alts; there seems no reason to roll anything more than 'Stormcloak' and 'Imperial' what with Hybridisation: The story you follow will likely be the only difference.
