Hi forum.
This is a P&M Blog about a Orkz Klan called (only by the member of the Klan) "Da Krazy Pak"
I'm an Italian guy that likes every possible thing regarding Fantasy and Sci-fi and, of course, I fell in WH 40K like a lot of You moved by these interests.
Had only one game with the ladz and lost, I don't play mainly because of my job (I'm a cook IRL) that keeps me away of the normal times and days where You can find "normal" people around.
That never put me down, I just love to convert my orkz and in the last couple of years (I've been out of the hobby for almost one year recently though) I also started to enjoy painting them.
The following pages will bring You on the road that brought me to rewrite the OP today (29/04/13), the progress of my painting skills and the amazing people that fill Dakkadakka and came with me from the beginning of this adventure or jumped on on the way or yet left midway, but all of them have a piece in my army.
If You want to get along on this journey, You're welcome.
Here the pic of my (painted) army so far, enjoy!
WAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

Cheers Selvaggio. You've got some fantastic conversions here and in your gallery... you should post a few more for folks to see.
As far as your painting goes... looks pretty solid. Three things jump out at me.
1. Drill the barrels of your guns if you can. Makes a big difference in how the finished piece looks.
2. The eyes are kind of distracting as they're a bit random (or at least appear that way in the pic). Until you get really good at painting the eye detail (and there are tutorials out there), you might opt for painting them a solid color for now, then come back and put in the detail after you've gotten the technique down.
3. If I were to hazard I guess, I'd say you prime your figures black and then use a series of drybrushes over the black to build up your colors. Problem is this leaves black in the deep crevices which in the wrong place can leave the figure looking sloppy or unfinished. Consider the hair on top & on his shoulder. You can instead, paint that lighter brown all over the hair areas to cover them fully, then come in with a sepia, delvan mud or badab black wash. This will darken the cracks and natural highlights will develop in the high areas as the wash pulls away. I just think this method give a more clean and polished appearance. Zooming in I suppose it could be possible that you are using washes in these areas, but perhaps too much black? Not sure...
Anyway, just some ideas for you to ponder. Your builds are brilliant though.

Thanks a lot for the tips on painting Gitsplitta!

And following Your request for more conversion, here are my buggies:
The first one I made, there is also a gunner
Second one, with sentinel cockpit
And third one, my favorite

hey there, why dont you post the images here? its fairly easy:
right click on the image and chose "view image", then copy the images url.
Then head to your blog, and type this:

I'ts easy. When you're viewing your picture, go down below it on the right. The second box down is entiled "Forums"... just copy that string and paste it directly into your blog post.

Very nice conversions.
I especially like the Nob Biker with the flag/banner. Where did you get that from? Or how did you make it?
45857
Post by: SelvaggioSaky
The flag is from the orc and goblin fantasy warboss and standard bearer.
Thanks for the compliments

AWESOME conversions there. Very inspiring! And your painting isn't half bad. Gitsplitta's advice is good, but most of the ability just comes with practice and a bit of trial and error. Glad ya like converting so much, it's a blast to watch!

Now, after all this wonderful replies, I'll post my first Kan.
Beware of the dream of a Space marine Kan:

That's one of my favorites... it's kind of obvious but I've *never* seen anyone do it before... so I guess it's NOT quite so obvious, eh??

That's lovely marine kan! I like your othe rmodels too, but that one really jumps out... Nice work!

Thanks Git and Khaine.
To keep up with the Kan mood, here we are with Smashin Kan.
Enjoy
I'm also in a painting mood and working on ten hard boyz (10 out of 30 with Nob)

Great pose, and I like the wrikkin' ball. This figure reminds me of those gobbos from WH Fantasy with the big metal balls on the end of the chain.

Good stuff! Some nice conversions here, I'll be watching
Bike and side-car kombo and the buggies particularly caught my eye - buggy-sized buggies at that
Lovely posing on the latest kan too.
Keep 'em coming

Post by: SelvaggioSaky
Thank You Monkeytroll, I really love your blog as well
Now my progress with the paint and a question: Which is the best way to turn down the bright orange?
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
Highlight with a lighter orange or golden yellow, then try washing with either baal red or sepia and see which you like better. You might look up CommisarKhaine... he does screaming orange grots and his army looks fantastic. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/266318.page Since they're orks, you can chip the daylights out of them too, that would help.
9910
Post by: CommissarKhaine
Thanks for the plug Gits!
For the orange, I use Macharius solar orange as a basecoat. Highlight with vomit brown, shade with ogryn flesh wash. For extreme highlights, you can use bleached bone before washing. Glad to see someone else painting orange!

There are some very nice conversions and the painting is quite good. You're making my vibe to start orks and convert them to the clan out of dow 2 retribution, (I think they're the bootleggers or something) even stronger. They are very good.

Very nice orks. I like them. I prefer my greenskins with a lighter tone for the contrast - but that is my personal preference. Maybe some more highlights on the skin?

Hey SelvaggioSaky,
I've come to check out your blog! Tbh there is only 1 word that sums your converting skills up- badass! I love your converted buggies man! The use of an ork truck is excellent! The last one has a real 'beach buggy' feel and looks towards it. The kanz are superb too! I own 3 and have built them up from the set and they are average compared some of ours! The one with the dread front bit is my fav! (With the one with the recking ball coming in second)! sorry but I've got to do that conversion! The bikers look really good too! My nob biker is converted too which you can se on my blog. (Below). Hey how about you check out my blog too? (Link is in the description).) Can’t wait till next update!

Some very nice conversions you have got going here. Can't add anything to Gitsplitta's advice, and it looks like you are taking it in - so everything appears to be headed in the correct direction
You seem to have Orky plasticard plates down pat - any special tips or processes you go through creating those?

45857
Post by: SelvaggioSaky
Thanks guys, It's because of Dakka people that I'm actually painting, I want to share what I do and get better watching better painters jobs.
Arakasi: I have no tips really, my mate looked at me (not in an happy mood, he does BT) when I was doing the last buggy and just said "You're a F******ing natural with conversion".
I just take the piece I want covered or put together and cut random shapes till I fill the gap, a couple of other strips to tie It together and is done.
I'm quiet used to knifes as well, I'm a cook in my other occupation, so It's a one shot get It right cut.
So I think that in a past life I was a Mek.

I doubt he's far off the mark. You have a great eye for parts and poses. Everything looks functionally plausible while still characterful - the amount of stock bits you've managed to use might actually make this fact more impressive.
30344
Post by: monkeytroll
Interesting start to the half-track.
You planning on chopping the back of the armoured car, or keeping it as a solid unit?

Post by: Dabedman
Great blog, I really like the dynamic and fluid poses of those kanz. I would like to see more painting though, as I'm quite curious as to your progress; looking at the first one you had on page one it looks like you already have come a long way and I want to follow this as you develop ( and steal any good ideas you get, obviously).
Subscribed and watching closely. Great conversions, now go the extra mile with the paintjobs.
And if you ever need help, look up the Useful P&M Advice thread. It can tell you everything you'll ever need to know in this hobby. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/416755.page

HAZZER & Awesome: thanks!
Oadie: That's a great compliment for me, humbled
monkey: I already chopped a part off the back side, It's the one in front of the dakka turret eheh. I don't plan in any more cuts really.
Dabedman: cheers mate, I need that kind of support and I'll wait to find mi copyright pieces in your minis. Thanks for the shout on the blog too.
I'm planning to go ahead with the half truk, while I finish the few details on the first ten hardboyz, then an other rush of hardboyz and then who knows, I'm waiting for bits

Post by: Gitsplitta
I think your 'Aardboyz would be an excellent opportunity for you to custom build some simple armor to set them apart from regular boyz. Thigh plates would work nicely and they'd be easy to do with bits of plastic tubing, plasticard or green stuff.
45857
Post by: SelvaggioSaky
Thanks Git, but they are already apart from the rest of the boyz.
They are the only ones with shoulder plates (also looted from SM).
What about the coloring? Any other tips for the next bunch that You can see at this stage?
30344
Post by: monkeytroll
Not fully sold on the banner-waving gunner yet, but it's certainly cool, so I'll run with it
Also loving that front shot, with the gaping maw
Armour's looking good on th'ardboyz, but like Gits, I reckon you could have a bit more armour on there to beef 'em up a bit.
18980
Post by: Arakasi
The Ork Glyph plates are also good for 'eavy armour. Is the colour red or orange?
45857
Post by: SelvaggioSaky
Blazing orange all the way!
I understand, I'll see what I can do with a bit of extra armor then.
Can You please give an example about the extra armor done with plasticard?
Thanks for stopping by guys
P.S.: Monkeytroll, the banner will be attached to the turret, so is the gunner that hold himself to the banner
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
I'm not sure about the orange pants.... think the orange would have more impact if it was limited to the armor and weapons...
49740
Post by: Awesomesauce
I love that turret on the 'aff-trak! And the 'ard boyz are pretty cool, the chipped paint detail on their armor is very well done.
45857
Post by: SelvaggioSaky
Thanks for the replies.
Git: I will use the orange on trousers on a few models only (2 out of 10 at the moment and probably an other 3 for the next 19 boyz), but I get your point and I'll be sure to not overdo the color. I want to try to paint different kinds of higlights with a wide range of colors on this squad and having fun on It at the moment.
About the extra armor, I decided that GS will be and GS is, so expect some modification at soon I'll recive It in the mail.

I'll try one on the Nob that will lead the hard boys, on his hip, wish me luck please eheheh

CK: Orange is best and the spike has been a total luck, thanks anyway eheheh.
Now, for You and You only (whoever are You) my ork chain hips armorz. The mini will be the actual leading Nob for the Hard Boyz and will suffer more plating soon.
What do You think about It?

26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
Interesting... what material do you intend to represent the plates as... metal, leather?
49314
Post by: TaWaaagh
I like it. That is; if you paint it up as metal. You don't want to run your Nob around in a skirt...
45857
Post by: SelvaggioSaky
Absolutely metal (chipped like the rest of the orange armor that I did already) cause they are Harder!
I'm working now on the structures for a few boyz, I'll fill the armor with GS when I have enough of It.
Not sure that this metod will work on my already painted boyz tough.
What do You think?

Go for it

Sorry CK, I didn't get It
As I zoomed in on the shoulder pads, the black and white squares looked a bit off. Logical, since it's WIP. You can correct those with a very fine pen, that's all I was saying
45857
Post by: SelvaggioSaky
Now I got It!
Cheers for the suggestion
49314
Post by: TaWaaagh
They look great
Its a good idea with the pen. Could it also be a good idea to start off with a pen before even touching it with paint?
... and then again - its been painted by Orks, right? When the mobs prepare for waaagh do they stop and worry about how straight their lines are?
35565
Post by: Sentinel
Just remember that with a micropen: make sure your surface that you're going to draw on is absolutely bone-dry. I've messed up a pen by jumping the gun.
45857
Post by: SelvaggioSaky
Ok, I think I'm done with the first ten with added armor, thanks everybody for the suggestions and support.
I have also the armor ready and minis waiting for the primer on an other ten 'ard boyz!

The bases will be desert like with sharp rocks around, similar to the Kans and bike I've already done.
I intend to stay on a deep gray color for the bases, almost ash with patches of dry grass here and there.

It really is a great idea to add more plates and stuff for the 'ard boys. Your boys really look good. I never thought of it. But I have boys from both the sun and the moon (red and yellow), so its easy to track who is 'ard and not in my local friendly games. (I say 'RED ONES ARE 'ARD' and thats settled)
Getting any paint on these soon?

I am doing my best and arrived to this point on ten 'arder boyz.
Miss to do all the boltgun metal, finish the skin, washes and touches to cover some errors, but I'm pleased with the result so far
Now back to work on them

Thanks everybody!
I use the sponge method to dirty up a bit the armor with black paint, then I just use my detail brush with bolgun metal on the biggest patches of black and on the edges.
Almost done with the ten 'arder boyz, missing teeth, skulls and wash...
Automatically Appended Next Post: And now the finished product (no basing yet), ten 'arder boyz in all their WAAAAAAAGH!
Also a 2/3 mob picture, ten to go with the leading Nob!

Thanks for checking out my thread as other wise I would have not found these gems, Your buggies are so cool love them you Kans poses are tops love the stance of them, but have to say those defkopter and kans legs are brilliant, especially the one posed climbing over the wall that just works.
Great stuff will be keeping a close eye on here and want to see some paint on these soon …..

I think You mean the one with the drill from the Kan kit, It's actually not climbing, but preparing Itself to shot the rokkits, It's so powa that It risk to finish on the backside and Koptakans are just like turtles eheheheheh.

I still have a lot to do of course, but I like the direction It's going.
P.S.: You can see in the picture the last 9 'ard boyz on the left with the armor almost done.

Looking good so far, I know you said it's work in progress but what are your plans for the front around the wheels
It is looking very orky, once you add the plates and rivets it will be perfect….
49740
Post by: Awesomesauce
Hellz yeah it's orky! Lookin good dude! Is the bed of the trak between the treads, where all the boyz go, going to get some walls built up too?
45857
Post by: SelvaggioSaky
For the front wheel I have the mudguard of the same kit as the main body, plus glyphs and stuff.
Yes, the bed between the traks is the transport place and they don't need more cover 'cause at the back there will be the two ramps from the truk.

Would a true ork actually worry about mudguards? (just saying....)

Your sponge work is convincing, I like it a lot. I’m a fan of your half track conversions, it‘s is exactly the kind of thing that got me into orks.

Mudguards are very useful to show off some toughness and a Ork can't resist It

Hello followers
Here I am again with a bit more done on the 'alf truk (a load of plasticard arrived so.....)
did the trail engine and some platform with moving boarding plank (on both sides of the trail, but in the picture there is only one).
Let me know what You think!
Just noticed that I glue half of the boarding plank the wrong way ... time for some GS
49740
Post by: Awesomesauce
Wow it looks great I love that moving boarding plank! Very cool idea. And also the idea that each track is individually powered by it's own motor is very amusing.

Post by: Arakasi
Cool ideas and nicely implemented. It's not the wrong way - for Orks!
45857
Post by: SelvaggioSaky
Thanks Awesome and Arakasi, I already plated completely the two side platform, once they are riveted properly( as Mama ork says) I'll post more pics

49314
Post by: TaWaaagh
Very well done How did you make the boarding plank moveable? Can you post close-ups?
45857
Post by: SelvaggioSaky
Monkey: thanks, but I still have a lot of work to get at your point in moving plasticard.
TaWaaaagh: I glued two pieces of round tubing on the first half of the board ( the one attached to the truk) at both corner and then one in the middle of the second piece. A rod that fit nicely in the middle of the three pieces of tube and voilà....

Post by: tough n' orky
the moving boarding blank is a bit of genius ........ keep it up !

Post by: The Good Green
That trukk is awesome. The motion added by the banna and the runes hanging off is great. I think you should bend the chain hanging from the roll bar in the back to match, though. It has a very strong Mad Max feel to it, I think. That folding, retractable boarding plank adds oodles of awesome to it, too.
28415
Post by: lone dirty dog
Haaa Love it the separate engines look brill, might use that idea on my Lee-Man Gruss looted wagon, As you have done a great job on the boarding plank I might have to borrow the idea for my grot mega tank if you have a close up of it would be great if you don't mind sharing

As I previously said You should glue two pieces to the first half on the sides and one centered on the second, align everything with the rod in the middle and glue two little pieces at the extremity of the rod to keep It there.

Superb work! One piece of advice ont hje gs coat: you can smoothen it out with the rounded bit of a sculpting tool or, failing that, paint a layer of liquid gs over it. It's a trick I've only just discovered, and it works nicely if the cracks aren't too deep.

Actually, there are ways to avoid the shine I'd say you can tell because at extreme magnification it doesn't have the sharp crisp checks and dags of a decal - though, you always have to worry about perfection and Orks...
On a more on topic note - the Kan is very nicely done! I predict your force is going to look very striking on the table top when complete!

Thank You guys, I have to say that I love this orange as well.
I changed from the one I used for the 'ard Boyz armor: It was white undercoat, two layers of blazing orange and Highlight with vomit brown, after that the chipping (sponge with black and detail brush with Boltgun metal) and at the end a wash of Gryphonne sepia.
The new orange is the same base, but washed with Devlan mud and after highlighted with a 1:1 blazing orange vomit brown plus chipping the same way.

For the base I use rocks (from a house demolition close by), sand and a couple of pieces from the 40k basing kit plus a little piece of leave from a dry pine (from my garden).
I basecoated all black, drybrushed with codex gray quiet heavily and then a lighter drybrush of skull white, easy

Hallo guys!
I have a big question for You lot of trustworthy people :
I just purchased a couple of MIG weathering powders, one is Old Rust and the second is Volcanic Sand, I want to use those on my vehicles and kanz but I really am a noob with It:
So, any of You can give me advice and/or links that would help me on this challenge?
I'm planning to give a really light cover with the dust, but I don't know how they work.
Cheers in advance for every help I'm sure You gonna give

You are asking for a tip from 'you lot of trustworthy people' so clearly not me.
Anyways, I almost bought some of that stuff myself. But changed my mind cause of the price here locally. Maybe I'll try some other time. I was tipped that you should do it last (after all other paint) and not to use any water or anything in it really... Not sure that helps

The weathering on the red is good but what stands out for me is all the freehand checks, very nice. I did notice though that you have static grass on some of the models (as opposed to the base). Hopefully the models were dry when you based them and the excess will just brush off.

Curved, high handlebar - why not?
Only thing I'm not liking at the moment is the kink in the forward struts (your plasticard additions don't follow the line of the plastic above) *If* you want to fix that, and keep the length of the forward struts, you just need to angle the back of the bike up more

Decided then, high handlebar easyrider style
That is the best look I feel, mind you a conversion will be needed for the riders arms

The great thing about Orks - you can get away with one or no hands on the handle bars

I think you need at least one hand holding on, plus I would like to see both holding on to finish the look with style

Yes Arakasi, that's a "gud fing"!
Here the almost finished product, need to fill some gaps with GS and that's It!
The harm on the handlebar is the chain wielding one from the bikerz blister with the hand that should be used for the handle.
C&C are welcome as usual.

Nice job on the bike and good use of parts looking good, the only gripe is the handle bars could have been a little more in line with the wheel support arms IMO but still looks great.
Is that a kromlech Torsos I see there
Just checked out some pics of choppers and yours is correct so I stand corrected handle bars are fine.

Cheers mate!
I'm really thinking to change the harm with the weapon and to follow Your suggestion to give two handlebar hands!
Yes that torso is Kromlech

I really like that choppa! It only has one slight flaw.... its a little too short! But apart from that, as I said, it looks great!

This is brilliant stuff
And a suggestion for the 7th bike... Why not 2 guns, 1 in each hand, and then a foot on the handlebar?

Nice looks cool and compact but works well, the chopper works well don't mess with it now just make another one
I think a trike with an extra set is needed next, to house two ork boyz that would be cool
Great stuff keep it coming, hell I might start some work myself

Thanks LDD, but for the 8Th and last bike I'm working on a crashing one with "Launched-from-the-sit-driver".
It's a bit hard, but I'm not scared, if something goes wrong I'll play 7 bikerz eheh.
P.S.: The choppa driver has two hand on the bar and He's easyriding like Mama Orks likes!

Well, in that case you need a second rider wearing a football helmet (jack Nicholson )
Crashing one thats a smart idea and entertaining, mind you with you're posing skills it should work a treat

Tried to put a second boy on the crashed one, but I don't really like It, there not enough space for both, so Jack will be used for the next project, Football helmet for the win
