Neil, some other friends and I will be playing some games in October set aboard a vast space hulk. We will be using the Necromunda Community Edition ruleset. Originally I planned on using my Scavvies but no more so yet again they are on hold.
I started out listing how I saw the space hulk from the outside and it kind of evolved into a character and the beginning of a story and I have become so taken with the idea I am now starting a new gang...or an Chaos Undivided Warband.
The Master of the ship looked out the view port and a rare smile cracked across his gaunt hideous features. Burn flare from the Idolater escort ship reflected and flickered from his obsidian horns. The Tzeentchian daemons had told the truth, or a version of it anyway, the lies and untruths would come to light later. The Master could feel the tremors of the warp, something large was coming.
A rip of multicoloured nonlight appeared in the fabric of space, a groan and a shudder rippled across space in every direction. His ship was too close but the Idolater was closer, the daemons lies had begun to manifest, and the small escort ship was sucked towards the tear in reality. The Master was confident that the ship’s captain was taking the correct evasive action, besides the Daemons wanted the Master to live for who else was going to free them.
***
The Master stepped onto the bridge and addressed his lieutenant. “This is your ship for now. I am taking a shuttle and a few of my servants; I expect the rest to be protected while I am away. If the Arkke re-enters the Aether while I am aboard then it is the will of the gods and the lies of Daemons. I will escape and catch up with you. I will take back what is mine, from your cold dead hands if necessary, but until then continue as I have done.” His lieutenant bowed his head in a mark of understanding and respect.
Turning and looking at the view screen the Master gazed at the monstrous form of the Arkke. Space had turned purple at the edges of the Arkke, like a halo; around the head of a fallen saint. The Idolater still had not impacted with the Arkke but it would happen soon, it was stuck in some form of gravity field. The Master thought back through the years and realised he had never seen a hulk of such magnitude, a tumour of technology, magik and rock. At the base of the Arkke he could see many ships, of both Xenos and Imperial design, crushed together at all angles. Ice crystals were flowing from the very bottom of the mass as tonnes of water flowed from what would be a worthless bilge, formed naturally in this amalgamation of space fairing vessels. He corrected himself as he realised that this bilge was life giving and the reason for his pilgrimage. Stalactites of various materials hung from the compact mass of vessels like teeth in an Orks maw. Looking upwards to the top of this huge cancerous wreck he saw what could only be described as a derelict space station, perhaps it was once a Blackstone, covered in rock and asteroid damage. Various coloured lights shone from view ports and the main bridge section seemed to be active and undamaged but no one had answered his earlier hails. He paid it little thought as his destination would be much lower in the murk and stink of foul waters.
“Have the slave crews prepare a shuttle. I am taking my leave. This pilgrimage to the Yggdrasillium will give me the next vision and reveal their prison.”
With only two months to get them painted I am setting myself quite a challenge! We all know how slow I am.
I started the first three today. A haegtesse* and two renegade guardsman** sorry about the picture quality
(*Mortis Engine Necromancer with Daemonette head, FW Renagade Backpack and random Chaos Icon) (**Empire Archer Legs, FW Enforcer Torsos and heads from the new Plague Bearers sprues one will be armed with a shotgun and the other a sword and autopistol).
Rules wise I think I will be using them as House Orlock any mutations will probably be just for show rather than effect.
Whaaaat? You doing a Chaos warband is gonna be a real treat! I was curious what you were up to when you mentioned in my thread you picked up a plaguebearer box.
Interesting! My Chaos warband is on hold, but I love the concept and really like the direction you are taking here. Two months eh?
Rules wise I think I will be using them as House Orlock any mutations will probably be just for show rather than effect.
I think it's a good choice to use a house gang, too many outlaw gangs and things get a bit messy. I was planning to do the same thing with my chaos cult except I was planning to draw up a slightly modified rule set - I think you can justify adding a few minor things (like a wyrd power on your leader) in exchange for a few drawbacks. Nothing too radical, but enough to give the rules a bit of personality.
Exciting start, Peter! Gutted for the loss of the scavvy work, obviously, but this looks exciting too! Not surprised you've already snapped up the new PBs - vaguely humanoid, nice and twisted, sounds right up your alley!
Starfarer - Hey Cad. It is only going to be a quick warband and after the purity of my last project something primordial and nasty sounded fun.
Dakka_Dok - Cheers. Yeah she was a break through all thanks to CM Dante. Originally I had a flagellant head male, bald, mouth sewn shut. It was at this point I remembered what Dante had said about my scavvies and all that baldness and too much similarity. So I actually sat back and thought more about the model and what heads I have in my bits box. My first thought was what creepy male heads have hair then I was hit with.....make it a witch, make him a her. With the cloak covering the whole model no problems with anatomy.
Bruticus - To be honest this group will have a much more military feel than most Nerco gangs I would consider doing. But they won't all be getting Lasguns and armed the same mind.
Rules wise mutations wouldn't be much of a problem if I chose to use them since this campaign day is only a one off/twice a year kind of thing. Much more =I=Munda that Necromunda I suppose... Since we have 1400 creds at recruitment. Leader has plus 1 wound and three freely chosen skills or stat upgrades. Three other stat or skill upgrades can be freely distributed throughout the gang too. Also any equipment can be chosen at the very start, even rare trade items. The Haegtesse will be a Wyrd.
Have you seen the cool terrain Neil has been making...and of course the start of his gang?
Scarper - I will return to the scavvies as I really want to get them completed too. But I felt like I was going to rush them for October. I messed up the paint job on the metal chap with blunderbuss because I rushed him. I will try and get Scarper the dog done and include him in this warband....as a Warg sized puppy might look nice and chaotic running along side these guys.
I snapped up the Plague Bearers because they are my favourite Daemons since the early 90's and I want to paint one or two for fun. The Nurgle Death Heads on the sprue were just a bonus for this project because we all know that followers of chaos can still see even with their eyes sewn up.
PDH those guys look fantastic! I LOVE the choice of heads on the renegade guardsmen, they are filled with so much character! I will follow this as eagerly as I follow the rest of your threads!
Rogue Wolves - I just love that because it is chaos no one is questioning how the guys with sewn up eyes can walk around never mind see people to shoot their guns at.
I got some good progress done this evening on all three. The haegtesse has her neck built up.The two guardsman have arms and lots of gaps filled and a ton of pouches and stuff added to their wastes since the FW torsos and Archer legs didn't match up all that well. I think most of the evening was spent searching through my bits boxes to find the perfect pouches and taking the mould lines off.
Tomorrow I hope to get all three heads attached, gs some boots and steel toe caps and then see what else needs doing. I really want to have these three undercoated on Thurs.

Ah I see, sounds like that is all covered then and that's a good way to accelerate the start of the campaign a bit. I am a stickler for rules and whatnot but Necromunda can be frustrating for people that want to do the modelling/painting side of things to a good level, like if your leader wants to change weapons when you can afford a better one - pretty common problem if you start with a sword or chainsword then one day a powersword is available, you have managed to avoid that pretty elegantly. The whole thing with juves turning into gangers is also pretty maddening, as you either keep the same model and have a ganger that looks like a scared teenager, or you swap to a new model then have to reuse the juve as someone else which doesn't sit well either.
Yeah I have seen Neil's stuff, I sent him a plastic tree I hope will help build the Yggdrasillium. Obviously I totally love it all. Your campaign ought to be a lot of fun.
BS2....damn I should have know. Well it could be worse they should be sat in the corner praying to whichever of the crazy gods will give them some tweezers and a scalpel!
PDH wrote:Starfarer - Hey Cad. It is only going to be a quick warband and after the purity of my last project something primordial and nasty sounded fun.
I'm glad you're doing Chaos as I'm always really inspired by your take you have on things, be it your Scavvies, Ad Mech, Inquisitor characters, etc. Whenever I tried to do Chaos in a Necromunda setting, I had trouble buying into my reasoning for them being there. I known Chaos have been present on Necromunda in the fluff, but I never got excited about them fighting "gangs" which more or less goes back to my issue with the limitations of Necromunda as a setting. When you mentioned the setting was om a space hulk, I had a "why the hell didn't I think of that" moment. I immediately thought about movies like Event Horizon and Pandorum and the the like, and love the idea of passengers falling to chaos while drifting through space. Needless to say I'm both frustrated my friends who only play Necro and not 40k won't put forth the effort to build non-Necro gangs for narratives like this, and green with envy that you're doing exactly the kind of Necro based gaming I want to be playing!
Starfarer - Inspire your friends. Show them the Jade Vessel, show them Neil's blog, explain to them it is about the modelling. If you go down the =I=munda route limit it to what no more that 6-10 models per gang, tempt them with unlimited access to the rare trade chart. Have fun it is about the modelling much more than the gamig. Of course the problem is your friends may not be up on all the weird 40k charcters etc if they only know necro.
I know you're not into video games but do a quick google search for "Dead Space" images...its a video game series, the first game was set on a massive mining vessel where a lone engineer had to battle against hordes of rampaging necromorphic horrors that had mutated out of his ex-crew members. He was armed with an array of grusome sci-fi industial tools like cutting discs and welding beam-caster...very dark and twisted game, may give you some ideas/nightmares hehe

Pandorum definitely inspired Neil.
I've shown them Jade Vessel, and your Scavvies, and Baiyuan's Delaques when we first got back into Necro about a year back. Those thread definitely inspired them to get back into gaming, albeit to a limited extent. We have been friends since childhood and played 40k and all the specialist games back in the day. These days a couple of them are only drawn to Necro, the others I've talked into rebuilding and/or dusting off the 40k armies too. I honestly think the best way to inspire them to expand into =I=munda is to write a campaign and try and inspire them that way, which is one of the things that I love about threads like this! It will be a ways off, as I'm very much focused on 40k right now. Anyway, I didn't want to draw things off your thread too much with my gaming group issues, but I appreciate the advice!
Speaking of Neil, I checked his thread and aside from some jaw-dropping terrain, I didn't see any WIP for new models. Granted, I checked it at work, so couldn't do much more than skim, but does he have another faction he's building for this campaign?

This is almost exactly the same situation I was in (and the same threads used to demonstrate how awesome it would be to play Necromunda again). I wanted to get people into =I=munda or INQ28 but that always fizzled out really. I think it's to do with the amount of assumed knowledge you need for those games, or at least - having background knowledge of the 40k universe really helps. Necromunda is just a gang fight in a giant rusty city, everyone can pick that up immediately and remembers it from years past etc. My friends didn't really know what an Inquisitor was or have any sort of interest in how a Chaos cult might operate, what the deal is with Xenos, etc. I actually thought the best way to get people inspired would be to get them to read the Eisenhorn series, that pretty much serves as the perfect introduction and it was one thing that rekindled my interest in the hobby, plus it is well written by Black Library standards. Maybe one day I can persuade them.
R W - ooooooo those nids looks so different. Very cool.
Grim Bad'Un - Will do. I will hopefully have a picture update tonight.
lone dirty dog - Aye she gives the group a totally different feel. She is possibly the simplest conversion I have done in the last few years. She should be really quick to paint too. The archer legs have had knee pads and boots and steel toe caps GSed on.
Starfarer - What Bruticus said about Eisenhorn sounds like a good and inspiring idea. I think having a campaign setting would also help them understand it better. The idea behind this game/ the setting has inspired me to build a new warband. But as you say that will be after your Nurglii Army. As for Neil's gang he has one in the works and you can read about them in this blog post http://opusmaius.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/yggdrasillium-pandoricalle-pillgrimage.html. Another friend suggested this hulk in the Aether as the setting and then Neil topped it with a fantastic internal location, a focus - these two guys have been a driving force behind this whole project. I feel pretty lucky to be involved.
Bruticus - Good Luck persuading them.
Vit - Hey dude. The Nurgle Death heads are just brilliant for this...I still haven't built a plague bearer which was the actual point of buying the box lol.
Ok a little behind schedule but that is ok. ....because I am so freaking happy with them. Undercoat tomorrow morning
Shotgun made from Hurricane Bolter from the siege dread
I really love the Nurgle Death Heads on the renegade gaurd and the good news is there is a third one on the sprue...,so when these three are painted I think another guardsman, armed with hunting rifle,....and maybe a heavy made from the Skaven Warp-Grinder Weapon Team (how I wish it were finecast already).
Everything looks awesome, and so I'll cut out the cooing and just comment on the awesome concept, and the great use of bits, and the fantastic execution, and the great gs work, too. Most of all, though, the shotgun is fantastic.
Looking cool mate...as usual its all the extra little bits you add that really makes your work stand out...you must have a never ending supply of pouches, grenades and meltabombs!
What a great morning one of my favourite blogs has been updated after too long. Not only has it been updated it has been updated with the beginnings of an Inq28 Warband - go have a look and comment at ghosty's blog http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/60/293763.page#4639778
RW - I am thinking brown for the guardsman uniform. With dirty white armour and dark metal, with a reddy tinge. I want the skin to be healthy coloured but with boils and sores from being unhealthy and dirty rather than Nurglii, the armour plates on their wastes will be a dark pinky red.. The Haegtesse will be very simple black robes with probably white edging and symbols from the dark tongue painted on, the shawl will be dark pinky red.
prime12357 - the shotgun was a moment.
Vitruvian XVII - Cheers bud
Ghostflame - run out of pouches....never ever going to happen. A friend of mine gave me three massive GW bags of sprues when he moved to Scotland.
I don't want to sound like I'm fawning, so I'm going to hold back on the praise as much as I can, but I really do think these are brill. Some of my favourite bits:
- Stowage on the grunts. You've got a real knack for making large loads of kit 'hang' naturally, and I think they show that really well. Looks like they're actually equipped, rather than have had bits glued to them.
- The postures. The hunched gent on the right looks really natural, like the bag actually weighs something. Might be more of point one, but I still think it's ace. The witch's right hand is wonderful too - really dynamic positioning, somehow suggests a restrained power.
- Your general skill for making eclectic and ridiculously differing kits mesh in a coherent way. Always blows me away.
Restraint, and yet it still reads a little like fawning. Will have to do. Keep it up, Pete, and tell Neil that I am jealous that you lot get to play together
Ghostflame - I think it was because I'd cooked him dinner on far too many occasions.
LLD - and for that I'm not Friending you back!
SpicyBadger - Cheers. I've just looked at yours....the fat servitor in the heavy weapons team is cool....I should probably mention this on your blog rather than here....
Scarper - I am one lucky MoFo getting to play on Neil's board Scotland is only one country up and 2.5 hours away from me and about £35 day return.....never say never.
When I was building the two guardsman I was worried that they would look too similar to the chappy with Autogun and Flamer from my Inq Warband because of the legs and baggage. Fortunately the top halves and unhealthy heads (and a distinct lack of purity seals) rectified that problem. As for the large amount of kit I feel that it makes them look like soldiers, who i imagine would carry shed loads of gear if they were heading into the belly of a potentially hostile space hulk....thank god there are no genestealers.
I really love the Nurgle Death Heads on the renegade gaurd and the good news is there is a third one on the sprue
I was wondering if you were going to struggle to make more. Have you used the ones from the banner pole? Because there are also some held in their hands by the looks of it (if memory serves correctly these are blight grenades).
Love the finished models by the way, really good look. I also really like the idea of chaos undivided as something other than just meaning covered in spikes.
Amazing work as per usual PDH.. these guys are going to look great on the board .. I even built in a Chaos Easter egg for them.. ( video game not chocolate kind )
Bruticus - Blight grenades/Death Heads are the same thing....just 40k/fantasy (me being old enough to own the Lost and the Dammed) as far as I can make out. But apparently the head from a champion of tzeentch is the most effective vessel. There are three single heads on the sprues and any others would come from the banner poles (which look to be copies of the single heads with boils in different locations. Good for this project since I only want/need two or three guys. Well I am sure chaos can be spiky but that doesn't have to be the aesthetic for all cults and worshippers. These guardsman are guardsman first who happen to worship dark gods. Since seeing Neil's easter egg I might have to build something that is swaying towards Khorne than undivided.
Neil - That is wicked mate. Cheers for that because not only is it a great easter egg but gives me a clue as to how to base this group. Grey and black and dirty ace. Cheers. I think this deserves a blood thirsty beastman to go with it. But this week I am painting....bases first as always. Oh nice use of Tamiya clear red, right?
LDD - I might change my mind after I've posted this
Wow, just wow. These are mind blowing, I have been trying to achieve something similar in my thread but you really just knock it out the park. I have had a massive struggle getting legs that work with the militia torsos and have been using greatsword legs but you have used the archer kit ones perfectly, I may have to pull some models apart and start again. Can not wait to see where this goes.
evildrcheese - I started painting the haegtesse last night. I did a base coat and a wash of dark reddish black on the cloak.
nathanie1 - It is the pouches that made the legs viable options for the torsos. Had to hide the join. Just had a quick look and your slaaneshii chaos warriors are very interesting....love the idea of the champion with four arms.

The Slaanesh got put on ice a while back so I could concentrate on the Munda stuff but with the new book coming I will probabbly start up the army soon. Your campaign looks amazing and I am enjoying the other threads related to it that I have found through this one. Looks like you guys really know how to game up in the North!
Awesome. This is gonna be a rad blog. The first three models are bad ass. The pouches really do make it for those legs. The ork tabard looks great, is that a shovel on the other one?
Always a fan of your work, PDH, and your Chaos warband is no different! It's good to see something a bit more involved than the "shaving the aquila off the chest of guardsmen" renegades
PDH wrote:I just love that because it is chaos no one is questioning how the guys with sewn up eyes can walk around never mind see people to shoot their guns at.
Haven't you seen Book of Eli? At least with chaos there is a reason why they can still function (and more importantly, shoot) while blind. Man, that movie really got me
Rogue Wolves wrote:I've been told many times when ever someone questions logic in 40k or fantasy.. the answer is always Chaaos!
It is challenging to maintain the proper proportions of logic and realism for our miniature space men from the future...
Rogue Wolves - Me too....though I am worried people might just assume Nurlge because of dirty white armour and Death Guard connotations.
nathanie1 - Roll on new WOC book then. I might have to borrow a few ideas from him for a combat monster in this warband. Neil's is spoiling us with his amazing terrain. It looks immense.
The Good Green - No the shovel is actually an armour plate from the enforcers kit...but from now on it is a modified shovel. Well I don't imagine more than 10 models and knowing me that number of guys is going to be impossible by October. But we shall see.
Rawson - Well it isn't that different I am just using FW renegade parts (so praise be to Mark Bedford) and ragged appearance down below. The heads on the other hand are different and ace.

After seeing this clip I feel there is still hope for humanity
The hanger doors opened with a hiss of steam and the Master stomped across the deck toward the waiting shuttle. Slave crews and toilers eyes immediately became down cast and they moved quickly but respectfully out of his path. Closing quickly with the shuttle he noted that the baggage slaves were already aboard, with the supplies his small task force would require for a protracted stay aboard the Arkke.
The group waiting outside the shuttle were the handpicked collection of slaves, bond servants and followers whose presence aboard the Arkke had been foreseen. He thought how that boundary between slave and follower was now somewhat blurred, all these being were now willing participants in this pilgrimage. They were all still frightened of him, even those whose fear had left them respected that he could crush them with ease, even though they were safe from his wrath until they were aboard the Arkke for he would not break the prophecy.
He came to a stop in front the witch, guardsmans, beasts, cultists and the xenos standing before him and thought back to their acquisition. It had started with the visions three years ago...
monkeytroll - Aye going chaotic....a little of what you fancy does you good.
Baiyuan -
I have done a bit of painting this week but not enough. I hope to have the Haegtesse finished soon though. I have decided to build the third guardsman before painting any of them so they can be troop painted (yikes not a phrase I use very often) perhaps a better way of phrasing it would be painting them together to get a uniform colour scheme. I also picked up the parts for my first heavy who will be the xenos mentioned above....no spoilers on what I am using though.
PDH, this is bloody marvellous mate! Love the work you've done so far. Instant subscription from me, I WANT to see this project ready when they hit the D-day.
I didn't have too much time this weekend but this afternoon I have done about 90% of my xenos heavy with ???? ??? and the third guardsman. The guardsman looks so arrogant and I've really happy with him. The xenos is looking pretty good so far with only minor conversion really. The hardest bit of modelling him was bastardising imperial and xenos technology.
izeColt - Cheers mate. Man I have too much to do and not enough time....good news is with what I have built/building so far I am on about 750 creds....so only 650 to go....so maybe one or two really expensive characters
progreen10 - ok
Northen - Hey dude. Cheers bud. I can promise some painted shots of the witch in the next week.
PDH wrote: I didn't have too much time this weekend but this afternoon I have done about 90% of my xenos heavy with ???? ??? and the third guardsman. The hardest bit of modelling him was bastardising imperial and xenos technology but, of course, you all will have to suffer the bitter taste of remorse as no miraculous images will be forthcoming. The excitement you felt when you saw "Skip to first unread" will be dashed on the cruel rocks of disappointment. All hope will be lost in the malaise of broken dreams and exhausted perseverance.
Guardsman 3 and my Xenos heavy Sha’eil (with bastardised Eldar and Imperial Tech Long Las). Not a nice happy Eldar but more about that later....but his soul stone has been removed.
Rogue Wolves - I could add a scope without much trouble. The reason I am reluctant is that I am running out of credits but I suppose it doesn't have to be a fancy scope with any in game effects. hhmmm I shall see if I can find a nice Imperial scope and tack it on and see how it looks.

Ah, yes. I forgot about in game logistics. I guess you could add some "non-scope" tech instead. It's just that the top looks a bit naked....
Whoa, how did I miss this? This looks awesome! As always, great job PDH!
But did you really need to choose Traitor Guard? Yet another discipline in which you'lre going to raise the modelling bar a couple of notches: Thanks a lot
I hope you realise I'll steal all kinds of ideas for my own Traitors from this thread, just out of petty jealousy
RW/Rawson - Decided against adding a scope....because I couldn't find one I like but mainly because I really like the face/mask and don't want anything to hide it.
KrautScientist - Hey bud. I don't know about raising the bar, these guys are going to be quick and dirty (relatively).
Baiyuan - Alright! The heads are from the plague bearers - blight grenades/nurgle death heads with the carrying ring removed. See below back row third from left is the guy with a shotgun.
Spoiler:
monkeytroll - Ah another update but since then no progress. But tomorrow other than buying a dining room table I shall try and get a good layer of paint on the hag. Glad that is the feel you get from the latest guardsman because that was what I was aiming for. The other two are shooting and he is arrogantly waiting for the enemy to come to him. Thanks for the heads up on the barrel...love fine cast just bent the whole thing - took three seconds
Monkeytroll forgot ask....are you getting much modelling done?
PDH wrote: RW/Rawson - Decided against adding a scope....because I couldn't find one I like but mainly because I really like the face/mask and don't want anything to hide it.
No worries, and I totally get the focus on the face part!
What about iron sights (or the eldar equivalent)? Even shotguns have those and this is a sniper rifle Maybe that even fits better than the scope for the WYSIYG part.
Nice, I love when people use head trophies as actual heads, it's always surprising and much more intrigueing than seeing IG/SM head XY for the millionth time. Keep em coming.
Baiyuan - we had better keep it down then....otherwise it will become common place and I will have to start using GS and sculpt heads from scratch...which I don't think I can do.
Got a bit of progress done on the hag yesterday, just need to paint some glowing orange runes down her right sleeve and then she is done. I wont be doing that today as I am going to brave the wilds and undertake my other hobby of sleeping on mountain tops (and probably wake up in torrential rain)
The Haegtesse had been in his possession for seventeen months when she sought him out. She came to his quarters by her own design, which was unheard of amongst the slave cast. She gently rapped her staff on his door; he heard the terror in the beat like she was hoping he would not hear. Upon entry to his chamber she strayed from normal protocol, which almost got her killed, but he stayed his hand due to this unnatural behaviour. She looked him in the eye, her pupils so large and black he remembered she had been taken in a raid on the night side of Mordia, technically saving her life as she would have burned in the false gods throne. She spoke in gothic, a tremble in her voice, “Master please forgive this intrusion I have come because of a dream from the pantheon. May I describe it to you?”
“Haegtesse go on succinctly, your presence here tires my patience. Never before has a slave disturbed my meditations and prayers.”
“Master I dreamt of an expedition led by and for the Great Changer. You will collect a warband from the slaves and the dregs of your warships; you will lead this group into the depths of a vast fusion of cracked and broken ships, the Arkke. This Arkke sails the Aether at the will of the dark gods. Aboard this vessel is a great tree of malignant will and ever calming peace. At the base of this twisted unnatural tree you will have your final vision, which will reveal the prison of the daemon you are seeking. Your visions will start soon and they will lead you to your warband. You will collect them from their various hells.”
The Master was about to reprimand the witch for this drivel, he already had a mighty warband, when she blurted her final statement “The daemon you call the Oracle of a Thousand Lies... the beginning of its real name is Rhz’Oass’Zhaaru.” before collapsing unconscious to his richly upholstered floor.
Memorising the impossible syllables the Master knew she spoke of a path not yet open to him and picked her frail form from his carpeted quarters and carried her through the ship to the infirmary. He placed her on a bed and ordered those present “Make sure she lives and tend to her every whim. Get the Mechanicum to set up a vidcoder to record her every movement and whisper.” It was at this point the Master collapsed as spikes of pain rushed through his mind giving him a vision of what the witch had foretold.
I think she looks better smaller....dammed camera being better than your eyes.
I have finally finished the first minitature in the chaos warband. I am massively happy with her hair and lips. I used Tamiya Clear Red for the first time on the anointed chaos star, this stuff smells great and has such good texture. (Cheers Scarper and Björn for the tutorial links). The orange text running down her robe was done nice and quick but credit goes to the artist who drew the Chaos Sorcerer below for inspiration.
I found this on the net and saved it for ideas but couldn't find it again to give the artist credit. I love it and the chains wrapped round its head are so creepy and the chaos star icon on the shoulders/back.
Rediculous PDH, one of the foremost examples of a chaos coven sorc ive ever seen. I should really pick up some clear red too, seems very useful. Those eyes, and the lips are absolutely fantastic.
Rogue Wolves - The Bullseye as you put it is actually Qhaysh. Qhaysh in the Dark Tongue translates to Rainbow or all colours of magic. So I see her staff as a focus for Dhar (Dark Magic) but she has anointed it with blood to attract all the other colours of magic too.
tinfoil - Thanks dude
Vit - Thanks bud, I am so happy how she came together. If I had more time I would go back and try to get the orange text thinner/more precise. But I have another 5 models to finish by October (and even then I might have to press gang some scavvies into service). The Clear red is good stuff from this one attempt. I bought it for the Inquisitor Warband but never got round to using it. This time round though I could have a model at rest with blood anointing the weapon appropriately
Superb execution on this one, PDH! I was worried about how young she looked in the modelling phase, but your paint job has really brought out the sunken features that make her worthy of the "hag" title. Well done!
Rawson - Aye the plan of olderfying her with paint worked a treat. My main concern when painting her actually was I didn't want her to look too daemonette when finished,
PDH wrote: Rawson - Aye the plan of olderfying her with paint worked a treat. My main concern when painting her actually was I didn't want her to look too daemonette when finished,
Totally understand! Daemonettes are too youthful and killy. Well done on the "olderfying" , she doesn't look like a daemonette at all.
Haha, it totally does. I recommended it to my brother in the same way. 'Perfect for blood and gore effects and it smells great!'. It doesn't look very glossy in your photos though, have you toned down the gloss effect somehow or is it just the photo?
She is a nice model, I like the aging on the face although I think the pink lips/eyeshadow is quite youthful. I was worried it would just look like a daemonette but I think you have avoided this, now she looks more like an alien - the typical Grey kind. I also really like the base, subtly done but a good way to avoid the look of just having loads of stuff piled up under foot. Also useful for staying low behind cover.
I have to admit I am not sold on the black and white pattern on the collar, it just always makes me think of Orks. Especially next to the dark red.
Good luck getting your gang finished in time, I really can't wait to see some photos from your games.
Well, most of the praise has been dealt out all ready, however great achievement of breathing (all be it limited ) life into a model.
I was not totally sold on this in the early stages and was convinced it would look to demon like, however my doubts have been put to rest.
I think its great how you mange to give her a witch feel, but retained the essence of youth to her in a weird way, this only adds to the presence of dark magic at work.
The colour scheme is a nice touch bright enough to give the sense of colour, yet muted enough not to drown her.
I like the white and black collar myself and with the red gives it that mage feel, the staff has turned out well and is not over worked (which can be a bug of mine ).
Love the runes down the cloak, however if you can thin them a little might look better, but over all a great miniature.
All most forgot the back pack the paint work on that was a stroke of Genius, that grey section has lifted it and altered it from looking like a standard pack.
It almost looks like some kind breathing apparatus, what it contains one could only imagine
Bruticus - Apparently it is somewhat toxic and you shouldn't lick the brush....I read that afterwards oops! The glossiness is gone because I used it before applying purity seal. But that is ok because the blood isn't meant to be fresh.
As for the make up etc. The eye shadow is meant to be bruising around the eye sockets from psychic exhaustion. The lip stick is an attempt by her to stay younger.
I tried to get the base to match Neil's board as much as possible....hadn't really considered cover saves etc with high bases....damn the poor chap with shotgun.
Hi PDH, somehow missed the start of this thread, so going to comment now I like the idea and the non-slimy, no tentacle and no other "cheap chaotic stuff" execution!
A bit of C&C though: do you plan to do something with that snipers gun body? 'Coz it looks way too eldarish for human-based guy.
storag - The Eldar is an Eldar not a human. He is just using a bastardisation of Imperial and Eldar tech. When he is painted and his background text written it will hopefully make sense (along with his human like stats).
As for no "cheap chaotic stuff" I have a weird four armed beastman idea brewing in my head
I used Tamiya Clear Red for the first time on the anointed chaos star, this stuff smells great and has such good texture. (Cheers Scarper and Björn for the tutorial links).
You're welcome. Tamiya clear is great, not just the red kind. I've got them all and they served me well on all kinds of projects, like the water effect on my Dreadfleet bases that turned out really great and was achieved mainly with tamiya clears.
About the Haegtesse, great fluff, nice conversion, good paintjob. Like you said the face turned out best, but the rest is very good too (as usual).
My only point of c&c would be the composition and balance of the palette. The green thingy on the backpack is really disturbing for me and draws too much attention from the great face. The red cape on the other hand looks great from the back, but gives a slight "floating head" impression from the front, because the red part disappears under her chin, while the pattern continues (though this may be due to the angle of the picture). More shading on the pattern might help reduce the effect.
Just my tuppence worth...
Baiyuan - The green thingy really isn't an issue when the model is in your hand...on the internet fair enough. I agree about the floating head but no going back..to much to do and not enough time, the pattern is in the wrong place. Cheers bud.
neil101 - I hope the base fits with your fabulous monstrosity of a board.
Monkeytroll - cheers
evildrcheese - No worries every positive comment, original or otherwise, is good for motivation. Thank you.
Yesterday I spent a little time on the three Barauchian Guardsman. Got their boots and leggings done. Also got the base down for their brown jackets....not perfect but should come togethe when the other colours have been completed. In a few minds as to what colour the armour plates should be..prob going to stick with dirty white so that tamiya clear red blood chaos symbols stand out.
Baiyuan - The green thingy really isn't an issue when the model is in your hand...on the internet fair enough. I agree about the floating head but no going back..to much to do and not enough time, the pattern is in the wrong place. Cheers bud.
The impression one gets through a handful of pictures is indeed really limited. Should I ever drop by the UK for the GD I'll make sure to haunt you and nag at her personally. Just kidding, tbh I'd really rather see new stuff than a touched up version of the Haegtesse anyway.
The Haegtresse looks brilliantly sinister. Your guardsmen remind me of the Blood Pact. Disciplined deadly worshippers of the Dark Gods a cut above the usually rag tag forces.
Baiyuan- No touching up trying to paint three models at the same time is exhausting.
ishkatar, izeColt, Squigsquasher, Strombones - Thanks guys. Really appreciated and keeps me going.
Llamahead - The guardsman are definitely inspired by the concept of the Blood Pact, but given a more rag tag appearance with weapon options. My concept of these guys is they are actually captured guardsman who were already secret worshippers of dark gods.
Progress is slow, not really been in the mood to paint this week and this weekend went up to the lake district walking in fog ( ). This afternoon I managed to finish painting the armoured sections. Then in a fit of productivity I painted the skin on all three of them. I've painted two white and one black, this was a reward for painting the same colours over and over again. The last time I painted black skin was about 10 years and boy it is difficult... I think he may have turned out to be Native American. Anyway now I'm painting the rest/details of each one individually with an aim to get them finished by the weekend.
LDD you lucky bugger. Did you do any nice mountains?
Abi and I started in Ambleside and we went up to Red Screes and back along Scandale Pass. We actually had a great time even if we couldn't see that much. Always nice to get out of the city.
Painting has started to come along better since I have stopped troop painting them but I need to get them done for October, along with the Eldar. The scavvies definitely getting press ganged into service.
He is about 99% finished. I think I will add a few scratches, blood runes and some weathering when all the renegade guardsman are painted. I love his face but everything else feels a little rushed including the photographs.
LDD - Ah well we had a rather nice cream tea when we came down the mountain.
Don't beat yaself up dude, he's still wonderfully painted but yeah I think he could benefit from being a bit more scummy and battle-worn. IMO the worshippers of the dark gods aren't gonna be as keen on personal hygiene and weapons maintenance as their loyalist brothers Hehe
Yeah he is cool. I utterly love his white armour and helmet, that just looks awesome and I'd like to see even more of it: I have a thing for paint chips on white or yellow armour at the moment, and even more white areas would give more room to do chips.
I guess my only issue is that the torso seems more heavily armoured than the legs as the red armour on his knees is a bit dark and subtle. He will look awesome when he has the runes and weathering added.
As for the paint job looks pretty dam cool to me, I think you are being a bit harsh on yourself, the white armour is a really cool touch and has turned out well.
Dont go to crazy on the weathering and dirt, I kind of like the look as is and the heavy armoured torso and more basic legs looks great together.
GF - I think a little more colour to the weapon could be done. But I don't want these guys to be the scummy worshippers....that will be the baggage slaves if I ever get round to them.
Bruticus - Aye I will be chipping the white armour with a little black (with a dip of red) grave yard earth and pure white. The torso is much more heavily armoured and I like that look. Besides who knows what armour he has under his smock.
RW - Cheers dude. I couldn't face painting it all white....so a bit of dark red works nicely imo.
LDD - mmmmmm cream tea. Weathering will be reletively subtle and quick. Not too too many chips either.
KrautScientist - No worries more pics will come when all three are finished and weathered. I think this was just a proof of life sort of pic....and good for motivation.
I need to charge the camera batteries....it was protesting while I was using it,
The sword and mace are crying out for blood splatter and gore! The skin tone is a bit different and I understand why most models have a white skin tone as the face is getting a bit lost with the white chest armour in this case. Again weathering etc will be done with the other two. So three down three to go
Cheers Baiyuan
Neil - crackle glaze paint will be brilliant...when I get used to it. I had to give it a slight dry brush with black to dull it down a bit.
Ah I like this guy a lot, I really like the conversion here, looks bulkier than the last one and I just really like the proportions and the heavy equipment.
I love the buttons on his breastplate, I wonder what they do? Maybe a gps to try and prevent him walking into walls.
The painting is great as always, but a little bit of gore would be perfect. And maybe some rust on his sword? I am not sure but a sword that has splintered like that at the tip must have something funky going on with it.
I like the overall look of this however, he does seem very muted, the back pack needs something to lift it IMHO, it seems a little bland and needs something to break up the metal work.
Maybe the dial at the back painted white with a red dial hand, a little weathering and ageing is needed to just to lift him a bit.
The stance is good and the weapons choice is different, but I like the lay out overall and the white armour works really well, which I have to say surprised me immensely.
Ghostflame - Of course and the next one will be gay Then I shall put the chaos gods forward for a Stonewall Award.
prime12357 - I agree that blood spatter will complete him
Rogue Wolves - True but is does drag the eyes to the chest rather than the face. Thank god he aint a woman.
Bruticus - He is definitely more squat and condensed than the other. Which is a good thing as everyone is different.
Ha ha GPS....good idea though I doubt the mechanicum or mechanicus would be able to build one. The buttons were simply added because I had originally planned to have his guy holding a hunting rifle and had cut the end of the pipe off so the stock would fit. I needed something to rectify it so the good ol imperial guard rebreather came into its own.
A little colour (in addition to blood) to the weapons might be needed but I think I am going to get them painted to a standard for the 6th and then do the final touches afterwards.
LDD - The original plan for the backpacks was to have the power pack at the bottom in yellow. But now I am not sold on the idea. The dials most definitely need painting. I am thinking of doing the vent on the left of the top tank in brass.
Yggdrasil(illium) - Hmmmmm I blame Neil's love for Nordic folklore for the title It is a good word and rolls off the tongue with a certain flare.
Third guardsman will be finished this weekend with some time and some luck. But I have to write a presentation for work and celebrate my granddaddy's birthday. I also have two more models in the pipe line using FW enforcer parts. The gang leader and Inquisitor Benadice's Interrogator. One will be rushed and the other will be done by January
Northen - Cheers man. I have some interesting additions to make after the 6th. I am really looking
forward to making a four armed mutant at some stage. Too many ideas and not enough time.
Weety - Thank you. Only two more renegades to go in this scheme. Phew!
He looked at the daemon masked Eldar, who now referred to itself as Sha’eil, standing slightly apart from the rest. He had hunted this creature across the cold dead plains of a crone world within the Eye. He caught it by a hairs breadth as it was entering a glowing portal. He took the xenos and tortured it for years, always keeping it alive for reasons unbeknown to him at the time. After his first vision he gave the creature back its skin and had it nursed back to a semblance of health. Compared to the humans present it was still lithe and graceful, compared to its former self it was ungainly and damaged for there is only so much torture a body can take. He promised to save its soul from the Dark Prince in return for its loyalty. He carried the creature's soul stones in a pouch on his waist and caressed the bag knowingly; the no longer quick witted Eldar looked longingly at the pouch and then bowed its head in acknowledgement and subservience.
The outcast had taken a place as an enforcer for the Master and had begun its decent into race memory, at first fighting its conscience but now revelling in tormenting weaker prey. The Master had returned its armour and stealth cloak but forced it to wear the leering half mask instead of its helmet. It had scoured the ships depths to regain its precious sniper rifle, Sha’eil had found it damaged with its ammunition run dry. Without the unobtainable ammunition the Master thought it to be useless but the Eldar took it apart and bastardised it with Imperial technology to create a lasgun of better range and strength. The Eldar had told him that the Imperial technology was as complicated as the toys he had played with as a child. To look at Sha’eil now you would have thought he was originally from Commorragh rather than a Craftworld. In that moment he realised he had never bothered to find out which Craftworld this broken being had belonged. Sha’eil carried its bastardised sniper rifle along with a mismatch of human weapons, it constantly cursed about how primitive they were.
The three Barauchian Guardsman stood in a tight knot, around the Haegtesse, in armour vastly superior to the rags he had found them in. It had taken him four months of searching the holds of various ships in his fleet to find these scoundrels. Finally he found them aboard a captured Imperial Guard troop transport from the Dalthus Sector. The captured guardsmen were being indoctrinated into the great pantheon and of worshipping worthy gods, to be used as a human shield in future raids. These three were already secret worshippers of unclean idols, not converts but believers before their capture and imprisonment.
With skin blistered and poxed from unhealthy and dirty conditions they were an unpleasant sight made worse by having their eye lids and mouths sewn shut. Upon elevation from cannon fodder they had each sewn each other's eyes and mouths shut. Immediately they started to communicate in a series of occult hand gestures, which eventually changed to a weak telepathy. The Master was unsure what they see or how they see but their lack of eyes did not hamper them or make them any less dangerous. He had given them free reign in the armouries, each taking what they required and forming a tattered ill fitting unit. It amused him that these three had joined the guard to get away from their blighted home world, to escape the curse of its decaying infrastructure and its final death throws. Perhaps when the pilgrimage was done he would take them, and the Daemon, to Barauch as part of an invasion to destroy the planet, this thought amused him into actual laughter. Those that heard this awful sound shuddered with repulsion.
**** ******** Task Force: Yggdrasillium Pilgrimage aboard the Arkke, with enslaved mutie twists. Vid Coder image taken in the sump within the Pandoricalle Clan territories.
So the day of gaming came and went unfortunately the few photos I did take on the day didn't come out so well.
I wont steal Neil's thunder and show off too much of his board which was phenomenal!
Such a good day of gaming, lol, we got a whole three games between chatting!
The last game the five of us played over Neil's board and had a good time getting into the setting and actually how we wanted to play this game....much more organic and less rules orientated. eg A certain winged servo lamp blinding a random ganger per turn, Dice off for turn order and The random flow of the sump when someone fell in etc. Unfortunately we ran out of time... so we shall have to assume that I won the last game even though all my gang were either down, out of action or simply on fire. Damn I hate exterminator cartridges!
The gang looks great all together and the picture of them on the Arkke looks fantastic - can't wait to see some more pics (preferably a bit higher resolution!).
Obviously the painting and modelling is first rate, goes without saying, but I think one thing that I haven't commented on is the bases. Particularly when they are on the game board, the way you have disguised the bases looks great. Especially the Haegtesse who just looks like she is stood directly on the game world. I might have to copy this technique.
What a beautiful group they make, lovely work as always Peter. Love the paint-job on the sniper rifle particularly, and the turquoise touches on the eldar are a great contrast.
And as Bruticus mentions, the bases are a work of art in their own right, look fantastic on the game board.
Bases are important to be ever since I was told by a GW manager back in the 90's to base my models for I would not be able to play in store. At the time I was annoyed but I went home and based the models and it improved the overall look. I had to thank this manager the next time I saw him.
These bases were done to try and match in the the Pandoricalle as much as possible. Though they are a bit clean. I am considering going back to them and adding some more soot weathering powder.
Rogue Wolves - Oh the Eldar got involved with the wrong crowd....but he is quite happy now....dirty corrupted Eldar. I really like the Eldar because he was a break from painting renegade guard and he was a good excuse to use a fantastic model. This conversion would not have been possible without finecast.
weetyskemian44 - Cheers. My attempts at fiction are purely for entertainment and getting more of a feel to the characters. But without having to write a detailed background for each model. I am enjoying where this story is going and I have a couple more installments to go with a couple more models. These models will be done after November since I am painting 1 spawn and as many DV cultists as possible this month.
Ghostflame - The green glow of the sump is lovely and such a truely inspiring board that made the game.
monkeytroll - I am lost for words as to what a great day I had. The company, setting and getting play Necromunda were immense. The Turquoise touches were a must as the Eldar fits in very nicely with my Eldar Army (only ever painted the guardians in Turquoise before getting bored with painting the same thing). In this instance the turquoise broke up the cloak. The cloak was fun to paint to make is blend in the board/bases....first time I have ever painted a metallic cloak I basecoated it Boltgun Metal.
Cheers Neil. I am gutted I had my camera on the wrong shot resolution. I didn't realise until I got home.....damn and buggery. The Task Force were very happy on the board and in the sump. At least my wounded mutant did a better job of getting out of the sump that Tim's fanatic.
Two Spartan - I'm really happy how he turned out. Fine Cast is brilliant for converting.
Young Logan - Cheers. Hope to see that you've built your own warband
On Saturday at WW I spent £90 on new models for the next phase of the Yggdrassillium.
For the chaos warband I bought a Chaos Warshrine. I plan on finishing the warband off with a four armed mutant made out of the chaos warrior on top. I also aim to build a big mutant out of the rear chaos ogre holding up the shrine.....hmmmmm I need a Dreadknight Incinerator right arm.....bits shopping this evening after dinner fingers crossed!

Brilliant, I've been waiting to see the Warshrine conversions, those big muties are pretty great, and the dude on the altar is awesome. I think the combined item is too cartoony for my tastes but the components are just great. I picked up the Warstriders today and have had a bit of a blutacking frenzy, I wish they had come out a few months ago, perfect for my pitslaves.
I thought I might replace some of the weaker models in my pitslave gang - the ones that use marauder torsos etc. I really don't need to be making any more pitslaves as I have a million other things to work on but I couldn't resist as they were just so perfect.
I was trying to persuade my friend to use Festus as a Scavvy king of some sort, could be a great model with a few little tweaks.
I see....always so many other things to do. Btw are the left arms of the hellstriders seperate from the torso?
Festus would make for a great scavvy king. I think he would need trousers and the big leeches removing.
The mordheim dreg i have in mind would have to be a bar keeper who never left his inn or the city of the damned. Now he serves his vampire master goblets of blood. Defending his pub with his trusty cross bow.
Squig Squasher - cheers. I'll leave it to someone else to combine the warshrine with a landraider....perhaps someone playing 40k will take up the challenge because i don't think the land raider would fit down the corridors of the mystery shippe arkke hulk.
She floats, no longer using arthritic legs
Bionics life sustaining, no longer holding back the pain
Flex hair flowing sparking
White body stark against corroded crumbling tumbling Arkke
Cable roots shrink back from malevolence meaning harm
Wreathed in paper of vengeanced promised
To deluded pilgrims she brings journeys end
Wreak havoc amongst abhorrent Illium
Murderers of children, murderers of her children.
Planned murder of the Tree
I've had her for a while and it has taken me ages to paint her. I just didn't have my heart in it when she was just going to be a wyrd for necromunda. Now she has a personality and aboard the Arkke she can hunt and kill to her hearts content!
I was kept on a steady course with the her mint green skirt - it also gave me the opportunity to paint raspberry pumps. She is so pale I had difficulty photographing her. I cannot wait to see her on the Ygg board.
Also, I think a slightly "sexy" (but not too smutty or fanservicey) renegade styled after Yoko Litner would be cool. But that's just my adolescent mind...
Wow, Pete! Another masterpiece. I'm pretty sure she's not in Kansas anymore...
Flawless paintjob. Love the pale(tte).
My favorite detail is her leg, looks like it still hurts.
What parts is she composed of? Details pls.
The leg with the torn skin looks amazing, like rubber split over a mechanical skeleton. Really a fantastic detail. Is that sculpted or what? Don't recognise many of the parts.
I should have said that the miniature is a private casting not commercially available. I converted her slightly, its not like I can leave anything as stock, to be carrying a FW autopistol. The rest is how she was sculpted.
Squigsquasher - She is creepy and that why I like her. As for sexy I don't see it.... Mainly because I've got to know her and I see her twisted soul through all the rejuve treatments.
monkeytroll - I almost repainted the green red but I was given some reassurance. As I said above so glad I did because I enjoyed painting those raspberry pumps (not often you can say that about a creature living aboard a giant space hulk.
Baiyuan - I think she would fit right in with the other wicked witches. Pale(tte) - oh I am groaning and smiling at the same time.
evildrcheese - Cheers - Just think how Neil will feel when his gang ges to meet her in a dark alley...she doesn't like them much.
Bruticus - The bionics are seriously stupendous...I really love her cable hair and the bionic eyes.
LDD - Hubba Hubba???? - I bet you are one of those people caught with their pants down while watching the bathroom scene in the Shining
Oh, I was thinking of a seperate miniature, not converting this one. She is absolutely perfect as is, definately keep her like that. I was just putting forward an idea for another renegade.
mother head looks proper fuq'd up, looks good on her
and that errrrr, lets call her ms strawberry, looks pretty nice, very tzeentch like, all clock and dagger
very good
Now that these guys have made an entrance over at Tears of Isstvan, I assume you have probably seen them already, I wanted to share them too.
Neil101's Mouldii Waarps
Mouldii Waarps' Administrtum Curator
I cannot find the right words to describe this group of characters. But this is possibly the most awe-inspiring group of figures I have ever seen. They evoke this setting, like his previous gang the Illium did.
riseofthemagi's Cult of The True Journey
riseofthemagi's Cult of The True Journey
Rise's Cult of True Journey - He added more detail since last time I saw them which is so neatly done, not that the shots above show the checks and litanies. These chaps in their bright robes and rusted equipment stand out on the board and I find their robes to be a cultists representation of the Sump Crust.
Fulgrim's Navagatorii
Tim's Warband resplendent in their 24 carat gold leaf armour. No touching of these models by anything other than the base. The leader of the group floating around is one of those conversion I wish I had come up with. The Navagatorrii are ruthless in character and in game, they are dedicated and single minded in their actions....plus creepy as sin.
This stuff is just so awesome! I mean, each of these gangs really is a story of its own. GW should really try to revive and encourage this sort of stuff more!
Yeah a really great game.. humbling really .. Peter is not giving him self enough credit though .. not only did he do an amzing job as GM forgoing his own cultist's turn aboard the ygg.. he also painted several stunning miniatures as the Arkkes random encounter characters .. each model was in a league of its own.. seriously amazing creation i hope he shows them on here too.. Gloom skull hatchlings .. stymphalian shine birds .. spiderskulls .. wandering priests based of a John blanche painting .. that was stunning ! along with his sidekick .. Creeping shadow.. sumplight sirens the list was endless actually .. amazing achievement in its own right along with writing up custom rules for the game like faulty electrics..
and sump gas explosions.. not only that.. he also managed to covertly enlist the entire top echelon of the worlds moddlers to contribute.. some of the most bizarre and frightful things i have ever seen.. the list included the legendary slayer sword wielding Jabob Rune Nielson .. who actually sent two models .. both unique creations ! The spiky rat pack guys Okki and Ize.. , who sent the most amazing things as you will see... Kraut scientist who sent a brilliant magos explorator creature legion who had united from many into one.... custom and hauntingly beautiful music from the Stefan of the first point of aries.. emperors children marine from the legendary tears of Envy .. the list went on and on and on.. and i fail to do justice to whole thing here .. many many thanks to those who sent models to and contributed in other ways to make this the single most mazing skirmish game in 40k i have ever had the privilege to experience. I managed to snap some photos and will post the rest on my blog over the next few days ..
Holy hell!! That was a smorgasbord of awesomeness! ( did I spell that right?)
Love Neil's crew - the monotone looks fantastic, as does that floating, bloated Curator.
The other cultist crews look great as well - the goldmask idea (the robed VC necro with the cocked mask catches my eye in particular)
The blue Cult of the True Journey...
It's amazing to see all of these models together, especially seeing some work from JRN and John Blanche? And KrautScientist?
I envy the fact that you can get these models from painters all over... I wish I could do something like that here in the US. All the talent and Inq-Loving is overseas... GW should try to revive this and not just leave it to Mr. Blanche's articles. I've never seen a quality of modelling and painting this strong and so story driven. Kudos to you all!
Simply stunning work by all involved - the Sump is a character all of its own, and the talent oozing through all these gangs is incredible.
Inspiring to see, and to know that JB himself is part of this esteemed group - a full White Dwarf write up perhaps?
And I totally agree with Bruticus:
Bruticus wrote: ... I think I speak for everyone here when I say 'what the hell is that big turquoise dinosaur?'
I managed to use my camera this time and finally got a decent shot of my gang on the board. While they didn't take part last Saturday they are still after a meeting with the Pandoraclle...they still wish to find the daemon's prison.
HF Izanagi - It is awesome and I am very lucky to have found some people with a similar view. But without Neil's board this wouldn't have been nearly as satisfying. He has built an idea into a reality. His gangs also sit in this world perfectly, blending in with their surroundings like they are meant to be there.
Bruticus - Made me laugh too. It can be seen originally somewhere in Neil's thread....I think it started out as a counts as Sentinel. But on Saturday and possibly from now on it is a Metalspinax - Part mechanical, part dinosaur, part servitor. Who knows what spawned such a monstrosity. Fortunately it is passing through the area, hunted. You are of no consequence to it but don’t enrage it. Weighs an absolute tonne too.
The Arrke bursts from the Empyrean into real space. How long this will is stay in reality no one other than the Darks Gods possibly know....but even they disagree. The inhabitants of this world feel the rumble and grind of new life and kin attach to the land. Another island has joined the continent of the Mythe Shippe.
Arrke Walde - Yggdrassillium - The Sump Crust
The Buzzmen surge into the clan area from the south west along the railway. The Buzzmen having previously encountered the majiiks of the Navigatorii are accompanied a covetous wyrd.
The Cult traverse the walkways from their sunken domain north east of the Tree.
The Mouldii Warrps shuffle and float through the pilgrim shanties and across the gantries high above the Sump Crust in the south east.
From their Amphitheatre of Silence the Family descend into the Sump adjacent to the Pandoracle hovel in the north west. Today they are not here to consult the Pandoracle...besides she is not home.
The Navagatorii slowly venture forward while the other groups converge towards the centre of the pilgrim-me trail desperate to find the Pandorcalle. Though all they find is conflict... As they more deeper into the Pandoicult's home they encounter other denizens of this vast world, flammable gas and faulty electrical equipment.
Fat Nurgling of the Mouldii Warps opened a rusted blast door to encounter a Warrior God of distorted proportions in finely wrought armour of purple plate. This being though unknown to all the dwellers of the world woke a race memory of utter terror and cowering fear. Combat was a short affair as the Purple God moved through Fat Nurgling, leaving him face down on the floor. This armoured giant turned out to be nothing more than a millennia old memory manifest.
A fire fight erupts between a lone fighter. The pyromagiks of the wyrd char a buzzman and moments later immolate the fighter. His charred corpse attract Old Men, who drag the cooked meat to their carnal house. (fingers crossed someone has a good picture of this)
Mordeke of the Family played a game of cat and mouse with an Infected and banished Buzzman. Eventually overcoming this brute by crushing him with mental force.
On the far edges of the Illium protected domain fighters scrabble along pipes and a shoot out occurs between The Cult and the Warrps.
As the Curator flew across the sump to avoid the bullets of the cult. The Mouldii Warrps The Hireling Champion charges into a Cultist. The Cultist is bashed off the pipe into the barge, with this ungainly entrance onto the barge The Spider Hunter is thrown overboard and dragged downstream by the flow of sludge.
I simply can not stop looking in awe at all these pictures. The stunning terrain, the high quality of all the models (conversions, painting and the background stories are beautiful) and the whole of the campaign story. I said it before and will say it again, it most be an absolute joy to play on this board.
Chelnov - You can count on it.....I have an idea for my next gang Joobus Bairdens with their maygrums. But that will have to wait for later in the year.
monkeytroll - Cheers dude.
I will continue the battle report over the weekend or next week. I will raid Neil and Tim's pictures too
Hi guys. Sorry for the lack of updates with more battle pics. Been busy with other things.
So here are just some close ups of a few of the denizens I built for the game
Creeping Darkness Something living in the dark,
A discordant to the machines purr,
Lights flicker, fail as it creeps along its lonely path,
Black lantern in hand gives no relief,
Friends disowned it to keep their comforts,
So lonely in the cold,
Sharpened dagger allows it to feel moments of warmth.
Not sure what has happened here but in the uploading to dakka there is strange halo round the mini....odd
Parasitic Rhizomes: The roots of the Yggdrassillium Tree run far and wide, hunting for sustenance. The tree is not as powerless as many believe.
tundrafrog1124 - Hi dude. I have no idea why I didn't reply to your questions because I planned to...
1. What rule set do you use for an undivided chaos cult?
I am using House Orlock, since the strike force are a military unit. In the spoiler below are the slightly reworked gang creation rules Mig's originally came up with for the Jade Vessel http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/208707.page
Spoiler:
Rules - Necromunda Community Edition
We will be using the Necromunda Community Edition for our games. These rules are regularly updated and can be found at http://anthony-case.me.uk/necromunda
Gang Creation 1. The players will choose a theme for their gang and briefly outline their character.
2. Gangs start with 1400 creds to be spent as you see fit on recruiting a gang following the normal structure. However equipment can be freely chosen from any equipment in Necromunda Community Edition.
• Minimum 3 Fighters: A gang must have at least three models.
• Leader: Your gang must have one leader. Not more. Not less!
• Gangers: You can include as many gangers as you can afford.
• Heavies: A gang can have up to two heavies but no more.
• Juves: No more than half the gang can be made up of juves.
• Knives: All fighters are recruited together with a free knife. Fighters cannot unequip or sell their free knife and their cost is not added to the gang rating. Any 'free' knives captured from enemy fighters are treated as regular knives that follow the usual rules.
3. “Outlanders” may be used in the spirit of their original background.
4. What You See Is What You Get. You’ve modelled a silencer on to your model so perhaps with some of those extra credits you can actually buy him the silencer.
Starting Experience Gang Leader: will receive plus 1 wound for free. They will also gain enough experience for up to three freely chosen skills from any table or stat upgrades (or make them a Wyrd).
Right Hand Man: In addition one of the gang gain enough experience for three (or three gangers one each or combination of) freely chosen skills or stat upgrades from tables he or she is entitled to (or make them a Wyrd).
Destiny Points: Each gang leader starts with one destiny point – representing his or her faith in the Emperor, Lucky Charm, or the blessing of malign gods. This is a narrative get out of jail card. Should the character be down to 0 faith points, caution is required.
Equipment At gang creation all equipment is freely available from the Necromunda Community Edition Rule Book and any Necromunda supplements available, at the stated basic cost. In addition the following equipment is also available:
• Psyber skull/eagle/cherub/familiar etc - juve stats, no experience gain, armed with a laspistol, with an ammo roll of 4+, gives +1 I to a predetermined model in your gang, if within 2”. 30pts

2. What exactly is Yggdrasillium? This is the Yggdrassillium:
Spoiler:
It is a cable tree....it is an oracle, it is a shrine, it is a pilgrim route in the Mythe Ship, it is a killer, it is a murderer, it is a god. It is many things depending on how you view it. Know thy self.
LDD - Thanks for the heads up....but that model is actually in the post on its way to me right now. Jeff is kindly lending me a few things for Inquisitor "The Sins of the Master" on the 1st of June.

No problem cool of him to lend you the minis, I just thought it would be of interest
Your models look amazing!! they all have so much character, I love the idea of small bits of story with each of them.
may i ask, what is 'The master' is he in model form yet?
Chaos Emperor - Thanks. The Master will make an appearance at some point. I just need to find time to build and paint stuff. There is a big clue in the retinue if someone translates it...
Awesome stuff as always, the servo skulls look especially nice and creepy.
As a suggestion the, cloak guy might look more dramatic if you paint the lantern as a light source, or strong glow effect. This would make him even more sinister.
nathanie1 - The posing is always the most important and time consuming part.
tinfoil - I cannot claim credit for the deftly done true scaling. The Gal Vorback are absolutely huge. The models above are on 30mm bases. All I have done is add some terminator arms really.
SJM - Cheers. It will continue for a couple of Word Bearers and a Sump Monster
Tinfoil - Thanks
Warboss - Its strange how the bent horn makes it. It was bent in my bits box and as soon as I saw it I knew it would work a treat.
Weirdingway - Those marines are still just amazing. Shame he doesn't have them any more. The ork bolter didn't work as it was just too big. Never mind it was a nice idea.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I've been ill this week and so done nothing else with him. Then this morning I pulled his storm bolter apart, I think the claws looked a little tacked on so I am going back to the drawing board and going the whole hog and making it properly daemonically possessed.
SJM - I'm glad the staff looks a little off, its intentional. From all the Black Library books the authors describe chaos (and xenos) architecture as having strange angles that look wrong to the human mind. I wanted to represent that in this model hence choosing the non symmetrical headpiece with odd angles.
Your Dark Apostle looks great! love the crozius. the asymmetrical look is great! with the storm bolter you could shave it down to the bare shape and put like a GS muscle design? protruding spikes may look good as well, as it'll fit in with the backpack
So I should have dusted him down before taking pictures. Grinding out the storm bolter was a lot of fun and now the daemonically possessed storm bolter looks right Glad I had a spare dark vengeance hell brute sarcophagus knocking about.
Chaos Emperor - Cheers
Biohazard - Thanks. So am I! I hate painting Space Marines.
MoDI had four and I gave one to Neil. Of the three I have left I plan on having two Word Bearers and the third would make an excellent World Eater if I ever get round to it.
I'd love to see you do something with this Chaos Champion helm.
I know it's a little bland but I've always had a soft spot for it and for some reason it screams word bearers to me. Probably the third edition codex picture from the army showcase that did it.
