The big guy is looking good. You can really get into the details on the larger model, not terribly unlike the Primarchs.

Damo marine needs to have the weapons removed and install a paintbrush and airbrush. Then he will really look like he's about to unload a paint pot of whoop on the xenos scum.

Can you photo him next to horus to see a size comparison. You could be the primarch of one of the lost legions that unfortunately set up on the death world of Austrailia Maximus where the native fauna is so cute and cuddly, but ate all the initiates

Its actually a separate piece, not a mold line.

Damo Marine looks fabulous. All looking great as always, looking forward to the new sharks.

Hey guys, nothing too thrilling today just a little more sharkey work with base colours and washes. getting a feel for them again still a bit of fiddly work left before I nail down the details. I also did the robes on the first chaplain I believe this guy is Crush? I wanted to give him a sort of ocean/sea vibe so blended the greens into light blues but held off from painting plaster starfish on it

I reckon this squad will be one you DON"T want to meet when they're angry!

That's not the worst idea, but I think it wouldn't make them look different, just like the lenses got done differently.

That reminds me, did Crush not look right with black lenses?

I think the gun still just primed. Damo uses the zenithal style priming, hence the two colors.

Imagine a flesh eaters red on those eye lenses. They'd looking more demonic then a horde of bloodletters.

Looking good, nerdy! Love the Sharkies! That gray is gorgeous- really cool and blue-ish. Almost feels like a real predatory oceanic color. (really jealous you got to work on Tiberos... I love that mini for the sheer stupid ott-ness of it all)

I think the sea green robe works too, I always had that in my mind as a plan but was going to originally fade from green to blue along the trailing edge. I also think the red stripe will be good, I wanted to do that but wasn't sure how much of the original sharks scheme Whaley wanted on them and yeah Crush' lenses needed to be red, black looks not right but as a character it works.
They should be done next week hopefully then I can start the raider

I did do some basic paint today on and off when I got a chance, because......... I was working on second prize for the 3rd annual Nerdcademy award!!! this year I'm painting a squad I got from a friend and am using them as a prize! yep, a squad of Chaos Possessed marines I intend on making look not crap! I primed them and started to just wash them but they look update worthy.

Sharks look sweet, and chaos look promising.

I would comment that your airbrush looks like it's spattering a bit... but the effect looks really good.

This is the second time I had to ask Where did the Space Sharks pads come from?

Wow Damo, the sheer pace you work out always leaves me feeling quite out of breath, having been away for a bit I had to literally marvel at about 10 new projects before I was up to speed! Not that im complaining mind! its simply astounding quality stuff, Horus, well, is absolutely perfect But on a slightly more recent note, that sea blue robe is beautiful, do you mind if i ask what colours you used?

The sharks are looking top notch and I cant wait to see how they turn out!

But the pressing matter of the hour! the third annual nerdfest comp approaches! how jolly exciting!

Hey again guys, thanks for the comments i'll firstly get to what I did for Crush robes I primed the model black, then white primer from above (Claytons zenithal..... ) then washed with Biel tan green. after that I really watered down some warpstone green and used again as a wash, once dry I used P3 Meridian Blue as my darker colour and watered it down with Biel tan green, then highlighted the top parts, after that I mixed P3 arcane blue into a wash and went over the whole thing then focussed on the high points with pure arcane blue and that's it! I could have been smoother but again, this force is tabletop and for playing games with so I didn't waste time on something that may get damaged in transit

and you may have read that i'm working on the 3rd annual Nerdcademy award? well, yes I am, so far I have 3rd prize already done and am using the possessed as 2nd prize, i'll be making a little base for them to go on together as well and first prize is hopefully going to be pretty cool! usually I make a Damo out of gs but I want something better this year something I can replicate so it becomes instantly recognizable..... more to come soon

O.K, i've been fairly quiet lately except for my updates that I pop on here and I feel like i'm neglecting my friends I have been pretty busy with work and have a few things on my mind which hasn't left me much time to check out everything you have all been doing! which again, is frustrating for me as I want to be here for you all and comment and support your hobby blogs and passion as much as you do for me! over the next 4 weeks or so I'm covering some night shifts and I will promise I will do my best to get on and really catch up with you all I should have more time at work when it's quiet. I also feel I may take a downshift in what i'm doing towards the end of the year so I don't suffer burn out which I can feel coming on if i'm not careful! so my plans are to finish for Whaley the Sharks Termies and Raider, his two Chaplains and a couple of objective markers then I want to go through my Nerd room and tidy it up and organize myself hopefully getting my gaming table in as well after this I don't see myself doing much..... not...nothing but maybe more detailed singular models instead of a squad etc.

OMG!! it's ONLY the greatest painting competition overshadowed only by Golden Daemon

it's just a little annual painting comp I like to hold each year to get a bit of a laugh and get others to push themselves to try thing they don't usually do when painting I offer up 3 prizes, 1st is the Nerdcademy award which is a likeness of myself which in previous years ive been in a bathtub and in a toilet, second prize is usually more normal like an actual model/poster etc. and 3rd is always something silly....... you'll get it later........


now, this is a weird little update which I think some of you will really love I've got a mate who works in a local store called Birchalls, which is kind of a book and hobby shop that has a strong Geek collectors vibe in one part and he has used this to his advantage and amassed a collection of statues and figurines worth thousands upon thousands of dollars like every McFarlane figure and those amazing Predator models about 1 1/2 ft high!!!

anyway, he just scored two 'statues' and wanted me to paint one of the copies for him and of course I couldn't say no. especially as he generously gave me a box of Boyz to say thanks I haven't started the statue yet but thought i'd show you and get some reaction!






And a little teaser from my teaser Green 2015? I assembled a Kommando boy and made him a little beret gave him a cool backpack and primed him then washed him so I can paint him SQUEEEEEEE!

how about I show a little progress on the Sharks? I have now got all of them with all their colours based in and washed, next up is simply adding the highlights to each set of colour shouldn't take long to see some real progress next session. any advice or ideas for them let me know

I took a pic of each one even though they're not finished as a group shot just didn't feel like it was clear enough.











And something I wanted to how you for ideas and opinions you know how next year is Green 2015 for me? well, I painted up a test mini for my Ork Kommando themed force this is the level all the models will be painted to and they'll mostly have a cute little beret added. i'd love some ideas for them to work on? i'm thinking ww2 style bikes and a lot of 80's action movie influence? I want every single Ork to have a real sense of personality to them and i've already line up a few bits for conversions and making models!

I will be doing the whole Orkish force to the level of that boy won't be too hard as the skin only takes me about 4-5 minutes it'll be the clothes and dirtying that will take time to make them different to one another.

enough boy talk! how about Shark talk? they're done! the red bretheren Terminators are done! led by Tyberos the red wake they look good for Whaley's force and even at tabletop level I'm pleased with them, the method I used is only two step-two colours for the most part! so anyone can reproduce them if they so choose

I thought the Astra Carcharadon's veterans flesh turned grey over time and that their eyes became black. Shouldn't you unhelmed terminator reflect the Chapter's particular mutation? I mean, your models look phenomenal.

I have changed tack slightly with second Nerdfest prize, I was going to paint those Possessed up but due to time restraints and the level I wanted to do them I've decided to ransack my unopened boxes and see what models I can give away as a prize which means.....


I get to spend time bringing my vision of them to life I started the first one today, I wanted to paint them how I imagine them to be. marines who's body's have engorged and burst from their armour fusing parts of it to the corrupted flesh!






I tried to get the fleshy parts to look bloody and the bone spurs to look like teeth next up will be the armour, not sure what to do yet though...? ideas?

Very nice nerdy. I really like the different treatments of the different surfaces. The gloss coat on the chitin claw... the subtle green tracing on the pads. Bronze trim and that the slightly pale red of the head helps pull the other bits together. Very nice.

Dang that possessed looks fantastic. The fleshy claws are just perfect. Might have to go repaint mine now...

Loving the termies as well, some really stunning painting all round!

Wow those look wicked awesome, nerdy. I love the gooey look you got with the claws.

Rather impressed how far you distanced this from the intiial "Christmas tree" look they kinda had going for a bit (you know, with the green and red )

Sort of a little preview today, something that I hope will whet your appetite for Green 2015 you may be familiar with Grukk face rippa? and how I want to theme my Orks around the Blood Axes so I had to do some minor conversion just to tie him in when paint hits

I still wanted him with the buzz saw he's known for so I used a Kan saw which is nearly the same size as his power klaw so it doesn't look out of place and I didn't like the cluttered shoota so I made it shorter and more of a Austyre feel to it by using the exhaust from his original klaw as a barrel then added a Kommando backpack and i'll be ordering some bits to change his head







and there he is for now, he'll sit for a while but you'll love him all done!

Nerdy .. for your sharks eyes.. did put a coat of gloss over them or are they painted that way. I love the way they look on the grey armor. Striking!

No gloss on those Solar, I just painted black but still gave them the little whit highlight!

Little work on Whaleys Land Raider for the sharks coming along nice and weathered so far, the lines have been blacked with wash and the chipping pattern laid down, next up more colour blocking and dusting along the bottom of the hull.






And may I ask some visitors to help me choose the next project to finish after the Raider?

I've got a shelf of half finished models for my various tangents and a few for some mates but need to see what YOU all want me to finish up

SUPRISE!! I finished Whaley's Sharky Raider! it's funny as I always like to do a good job and if I can make something special for someone then I do it! so doing these for Whaley at a tabletop level was kind of a tough test, not saying that it's bad by any means I just found myself focusing on certain parts and spending more time than I probably should have which might have risked some bits looking under done.

but on a positive note I like it and it will suit the rest of the force beautifully! the weathering suits the nature of the sharks and the simple paint job is still providing enough pop to be interesting

Well of course it looks amazing bud. Fantastic, and what you call plain I call cool, gives it a real feel.

Are you missing an armored plate for the left Hurricane bolter? Kinda threw me off there seeing the other one with the nice tribal on it.

The plate and sensor on the other one were lost in the warp. I've got spares I'm going to send over.

Looks great otherwise. Nice touch of red in there for the Red Wake and Bros.

I just noticed, but were you going to do anything with the mechanicus symbol on the back? Something about it looks a smidge off just in the base LR paint color, though that might just be me.

Nice work. I like the combination of the weathering on the lower hull with the "showroom clean" style of the upper. Discouloured metal also looks great!

Cheers guys. again I tried to use ways that were essentially basic such as sponge weathering the chips and only picking out the edges on some random parts as well as a one colour over the base colour as an edge highlight, the dust weathering gives it some Ooomph and the clean parts look nice next to it! :-)

I finished the two guys today and i'm happy with how they look, I may tighten up some edges before they go flying as they look a little flat, the Cassius model is hard to paint because he really is mainly black and some silver parts which doesn't leave much to spot colour! but they shall look good with their brethren on the tabletop of battle! since I was tabletopping them standard wise I wanted to add a little fun focus on them, especially Crush I painted decorative patterns on his helmet inspired by the chaplains helmet from the 'Ultramarine' movie and 'Charlie' got designs on his combi bolter












Now perhaps even with my absence we can begin to stoke the fire of my paint pot and get me back to a rampart level of producing crappy painted models with exceptional lighting to hide flaws! lol

I have to say though that sccroll work on the helmet is beyond wonderful. Properly amazing. We all bandy these words around a lot, and mean it every time, but it is not enough to say awesome on this, just gobsmackingly amazing.

Yeah they look really nice Nerdy, you really do have a way with those swirls!

I really like the fact that the guy with the bare head, has a head that looks more skull like than fleshed out. Neat effect. Wonderful blending on the cloak and the scroll-work on the helmet is subtle, but perfect that way. Nicely done.

Yup, those are some cool looking marines. Those swirls go well on the helmet.

Pretty awesome looking detail added to his helmet, although not totally sold on the hand and the shaft of the crozius being the same colour, kind of blends together.

They look great! Going to have to run them at some point for no reason other then that.

Since the Chappies are done I felt a little strange...... a little.......thirsty.........something of a RED thirst!

I started again on big Damo. so far i've primed him red and washed him with Agrax shade, at this stage I have only used Vallejo Bloody red to highlight the first layer by watering it down and starting to blend it into the darker washed red it's amazing how one colour, a wash and one colour can so dramatically change the look of a model!

I have a feeling you'll be seeing more boring red updates over the next week







and whilst I painted I was watched by my mate! he is quality control!

Great that you've got a painting buddy to keep you company. I have my cats... which also love to hang around, there just isn't much curl-up room near my painting desk!

Thanks Gits, :-) I do really enjoy painting reds now, it's almost second nature to me now! I'm usually not as patient with it as I find it very forgiving to work with, but as this is a larger model I am still using my normal method just being more careful in application.

once big Damo is done I've got GiraffeX's Termies and a 10 man chunk of Sternguard to paint up as much as I can before I head off to Hawaii for a while ;-)

Ooooooo..... Hawaii!!

Yep :-) Hawaii mate! first overseas trip for us so it's pretty exciting for us. looking forward to getting my man boobs out all pasty white for them over there! should be fun times we've already googled a cool comic collectors store and lots of discount shopping! even have a Lego store close by! Oooooh nice

we're going for a little over a week and having 10 local guys from the muay Thai, MMA stay to watch the place lol ;-) have fun getting past the H train!

but seriously, we are going for a little over a week to Waikiki beach just to unwind and celebrate Nerdwench' birthday and shop and get some new experiences under our belt!

Enjoy that tropical weather. oh and have some native pineapple. it's truely amazing!

Wow what a Nerdnado today has been! finishing up the Nerdcademy award and also getting some painting under my belt I wanted to finish the red parts of the big Damo and I did that in an enjoyable session today with music pumped and black coffee next to me for stimulus

I was going to step by step my work again but I couldn't stop painting when I started and by the time I was done the light was bad for taking pics but that aside I hope you like his progress and look forward to more?

Looks fantastic Damo, but you need to touch up the left eye-socket of the skull on his chest. There's a bit too much red in there I think.

Thanks everyone, that was just the reds, I've done the rest of the details now today :-) so the chest skull etc is all good and the power sword looks better than i'd hoped! really nice effect if I do say so lol! only have his head to paint now. at the moment it's just base coated and washed with a base shade highlight and that's it!

but because I'm so close but ran out of time you'll have to wait until tomorrow when I finish him :-D

One can never have enough red! And yours looks gorgeous!

FINISHED!!!! Big Damo is done and looking like he's having a really bad day on his way to kick some serious ass!

I really don't know what to say about him! a bigger model meant more effort in blending the armour and lots more checking and double checking from different distances to make sure it looks good from any angle. his face is cool as, so much emotion and anger displayed which made it fun to do!

I didn't change much of him just filed off his hair and any markings so I could turn him into a Flesh Eater and paint him to resemble myself

I hope you guys like him!










Well, now he's sorted it' finally I get to finish GiraffeX's Celestial Lions Termies I'm sure he'll be happy to hear that

I heard the Sisters of battle like a bend in the sword'?

I did straighten it when I got it but it went back bendy and then I did it again before painting but it went a little bendy again but it's not too bad I'll try and get a comparison shot for you soon.

One of the best Artemis conversions and paint jobs I've ever seen, extraordinary. The red, face and power sword are amazing, a really great model. He reminds me of Ramone Dexter, all he needs is the little 'fony' tattoo above his eye. Brilliant stuff.

My point of advice would be to not suggest giving a child your "lolly". 1. That's how it's spelled. 2 People will think you are a pederast.

Also, no worries on the trick or treating front probably. I live in an apartment and have never seen a trick or treater. They generally stick to houses in neighborhoods. Of course, I don't know how Hawaiians do it, so I'm probably being racist. That's a safe assumption.

Above might need explained. Trick or treating is the act of walking around extorting candy out of people upon threat of vandalism or petty acts of cruelty. Welcome to America! Trick or Treat!

Hi guys i'm BAAAAAAACK!

Phew!! what a few weeks I've had guys! an AMAZING holiday in beautiful Hawaii with heaps of shopping and sun baking and eating and just enjoying the hanging loose lifestyle so I better show you a few pics of my trip with Nerdwench, who I might add is now my fiance since I popped the question on the beach on Halloween yes, she shall soon be Mrs Nerdfest or as I like to say Lady Nerdwenchington


speaking of Halloween we were obviously there for it and as we don't really do it Down Under it was certainly an eye opener for us both and a really really fun time! I do love me a good dress up and seeing it all around me tightly packed in the streets, young and old letting loose and wandering the street talking and laughing. I took some pics before my phone went flat which sucked ass but i can show a few as well as some of our other adventures one such adventure was going to an all you can eat Luau and getting back to the hotel and into bed at midnight then up at 3am to catch transport and wait in line at the airport for our trip home....... only to be told we were a day early soooooo back to the phonebook to book more transport and hopefully a hotel room for another night! got to spend another day on the beach but I was tired and a little worn out by then!


And now for model love! I didn't feel like a full on paint day so I did some assembling of models instead got a Vindicator and a nice little group of Dreadnoughts for some smashy action, a DC dread, a Libby dread, and a Furioso




Oh all right then I'll do some painting how's starting a Sternguard? is that o.k? I did his armour and blocked in the colours for the rest of him so we can see how I'm going to do the whole 10 man squad of them, liking him so far, the completed squad is gonna be pretty awe inspiring I think



I'll be back soon, don't give up on me yet!

Hey Az! thanks mate we did indeed have a better time than we even expected to! the travel bug has bitten us both now! and the fist is from the Sternguard kit I believe and if not it's from the new Tac box

lol Whaley the food was insanely good for me! I wanted to eat as 'American' as I could and went to Denny's had lots of burgers and fries and the Cheesecake Factory (3 times ) I have other holiday food pics I'll send you later dude glad you like the Sternie so far, trust me.......

Ha Yep, a day early, while not a big deal in the end it certainly felt like we were stranded when we were told I did indeed want to paint but not THAT badly!

Yo GFX! cheers man! it was a great trip with both of us getting rings we wanted she scored the diamond one and I scored the fried ones! Mmmmm mmm. don't tress on the Bolter, I like to drill all mine now and it shall be done. yeah I will indeed up the gold work, it's only the base coat

Ramos it's nice not having to worry about drop bears, redbacks, snakes, huntsmen etc. so I could relax and not worry about a Bunyip stealing me! I had to start SOMETHING! so I figured if I quickly churn through the red armour as I know how to do it fast and then block in some colour so I could post an update and chat to you all again!

when i was in the army i was stationed over thier we went to waikki every weekend it is a trip man. well

again congrats dude...so did you brain wash the nerdwench or something

Finished my first Sternguard guy! looking sharp (shooter) also primed my Dreads and Vindicators, the rescued one even after scrubbing and soaking is still a little thick in spots but hopefully I can still get it to look right

Yesterday we had our carpets cleaned and had to move furniture out and around so when I was putting it back I pinched a shelf Nerdwench usually has in a spot I don't like and now the Nerd Lair has all my books neatly organised with my other shelf with more room for models

The Sternguard looks great

Sterny looking good dude, and your army on the shelves look so brilliant, Positively Glows RED.

That stern chap is looking nice. Like what you did with the strap, and the red (as always), and the wreath is nice, and the cloth is very nice... it's all good.

Like the Transformers cover.

Progress just a little insight into how I work through my mini's.

So, these guys are all primed red and then washed with Agrax right then I go ahead and do my first highlight with a watered down red. once that's done I can see the start of the blend and highlights so I continue by base coating all the other main areas like the robes and the areas that shall be gold with a brown/gold mix. once dry I then wash all the new coloured parts with Agrax again and they're ready for stage 2

I don't get it though guys? you all seem to really like my reds? and I won't argue I think they look good on the mini's but it's not a hard process. take the Sternguard above: Dragon red primer, a wash of Agrax and ONE highlight pass with Bloody red paint and that's it! :-) so really ANYONE can do that lol!

I then add orange/browns until i'm happy so maybe it's my pics that make them look so good? I dunno, I just don't want you to think i'm doing something magical when I am doing nothing really that i've seen you all do on your blogs! I'm certainly no Pyriel or Jah ......or RAFF........or Sigur........or ........ :-) maybe the next Nerdcademy will focus on Reds?...

Thank you Styro! my reds are meh! red is a bitch to photo I have a darker area when I photograph them and use a bit of white card to hold in front of my flash at different distance until I get a good lighting reflected on the model.

AHhh maybe I use too much light in my light box? I'll try the dark backgroung too. That is if I ever finish a model.

Guess what? I bought something today :-) for Green2015 yep I finally bit the bullet and bought a fair bit of stuff (o.k a lot) of resin from Spellcrow for my Ork force! so when it arrives in a few weeks I will be well stocked to begin some assembly and get you guys keen and excited for what's to come! remember I've already got the Orks from Stormclaw and that big ass Warlord to muck around with!

now i'm heading to beddy byes to get up and paint Sternies! Whoooo Hooooo

little more work on the Sternguard they've had a red/orange highlight and a pure orange highlight added and the cloth has been done as well as work on the bolters! now they have the red to finish and the gold to do and they'll be done pretty much

while there may not be anything super technically difficult going on with your reds, they are painted well...
the color is very saturated and intense, and you photograph it nicely...
this makes for an eye-catching set of minis...
i think that is why everyone praises your red...

Thanks guys! much appreciated and Jah I can see where you're coming from dude I have a real process for my reds and now it comes easy and in steps so I don't think I'm doing anything different from everyone else

but if you DO indeed like my reds I finished them on the Sternguard now. went from pure orange to orange and brown then pure brown and then washed with Baal red............... then realised they looked different........ then realised my others used Carroburg Crimson! then remedied it by washing them again with Crimson the Baal made the reds much more bright and orangey while really bringing the final highlights to the fore! I like the Crimson as it's a subtle addition






There ya go! need to do the greens and the golds and then it's done time!

O.k just an expression of interest. but if it's fair dinkum that the Blood Angels are getting a fancy new Tac squad i'm going to need to get them to replace the ones I have already! :-) so that leaves me with 20 Tac marines fully BA'd up for sale! what should I ask for them and would anyone realistically be interested? i'm actually liking the extra details on the Sternguard and am now happy to tackle that kind of addition on my troops! not to mention IF we get anyhting fancy in Terminator armour I've got 15 of the little suckers I won't need as well LOL! why do they do this to us?......

Instead of ditching the 20 that you have, why not mix them in with the new kits to make 40+? You've already done the work, and they don't have squad markings iirc. You could mix in 5 from the new kit added to 5 existing dudes, get a new squad! 2 rhinos and 2 boxes of BA tac marines seems pretty mild. Could do the same with termis, even if you had to pop some arms off and mix them up some. Just sayin', no reason to take 2 steps back to go forward, just march on.

The bases arnt done ether so it shouldn't be a big deal rippen em off.

they are selling the 30mm bases in baggies too IIRC.

From what i heard its to make space marines more "Epic"

Yeah... I heard the same Des. I am unsure if I like this as I am a terrain freak. It lets me base more but, at the same time that uses more of my SWM basing stuff and little bits I create and cast.

I also don't know if SWM has 32mm bases or whatever.

As for what Whalemusic said, he's right on the money. Loving that red! It's so muted (don't take offense, I mean that it is humble to the eyes,) and smooth.

I need some input! for Green2015 i'm doing Orks and simply loving the ideas and theme i'm conjuring! BUT I'm not sure yet on a few things, if I ever actually play them I'll go unbound and just have fun with whatever I have at hand using Dreads, Storm Boyz etc. I know Boyz are usually armed with a slugga & choppa? so in my mob of boyz I just have them all with a pistol and cc weapon with a nob with a klaw? does that sound right? and what is the size of a squad of boyz? I'd like to run them in transports (Trukks?) I also like the little buggy things with half traks on them so any input on what I could/should have for them welcome!

I am afraid I don't absolutely know the rules, but if I have this right...

Boys mob = 10-30
Trukks transport = 12
Battlewagons transport = 20

I have no idea if you can split a mob into more than one transport?

If you are going for Bloodaxes, I used to love the mythology of them "borrowing" Imperial kit, so run chimera's or Rhinos, but there used to be rules for Orks having them as transports and having increased capacity because orks just hang on for grim death anyways. Seriously doubt this still applies, can't have anything that cool in the game any more.

The only thing I do kinda know, if you had like 5 mobs of 10 boys in trukks and they all get out and then they can mob up and be INVINCIBLE!!! Probably got that wrong too hey?

Get yourself 50 lootas and be INVINCIBLE and funny.

The marines are looking great Nerdy, its good to see the dogs getting into the Christmas spirit as well.

Orks cant say I've ever played with or against them. I do have the latest codex though so will have a read when I get a chance to see what goes where and how many boys fit in a Squiggoth

I'm ashamed that I haven't opened my 7th edition codex so I can't say for sure what the current ork vibe is.

In general...

- Dakkajets are a must w/ 3x supashootas
- KFFs, either carried by Big Meks or a Morkanaught (I think that's the right one) are very, very handy.
- Meganobz can be a really nasty surprise. I think the combi-skorcha is the best load-out. They should be mounted in either a trukk or a battle wagon so they can get where you need them quickly.


Anything beyond that is up to your style of play. I think mobs of infantry are still good. Battle-wagon or truck rush lists should still work. The ork supplement that includes the rules for Ghazzy has some nice formations in it... one of which is a walker-based list you might be interested in (I am)... though I don't really know if a walker-based list is viable (it really wasn't in 6th).

I'm planning on a gretchin-based list with kans, grot tanks and big meks & their retinues (burnas, etc) in squiggoths. Should be a horrible piece of drek as a fighting force but look fantastic on the tabletop!

Gits I think the image of a mob of boyz id still 'Ork' so while I may not go full mass ork and run 100 of the buggers I'd like to just basically throw them forward in truks supported by bikes and a kan or dread or 2....or 7

You know... a lot depends on what the gaming style is around your way. Do they play the maelstrom missions (using the cards)? If so, then things like bikes or storm boys would be very useful for their mobility.

In 40k you can't split a squad into multiple transports, nor can you put multiple squads in a single transport without specific exception (like the Storm Raven gun ship).

My advice when building an army with fast troop elements (like your trucks) is to try and keep everything either fast as well (battle wagons, bikes, buggies, dakka jets) or make sure the slower elements have good range so they can support the fast elements. Problem with ork walkers as a supporting element is that they're both slow and short ranged. Think about having your whole army in his backfield by turn two (deploy forward, move 12-18" in turn 1, move 6" & disembark in turn 2 then assault.

My play 'group' is myself and 3 mates who game....that's it...... so our style is really purely for fun and comraderie :-) a bit of CoD and them trying to teach me to play 40k! so no real focus.

Do they use the little decks of objective cards or not? That's what I was talking about. The cards favor mobility & flexibility over massive fire-power. Makes you design a different type of army and use different strategies.

Yeah the cards are new to the edition. Me, I'm running Deffskulz all in transports with heavy armor. Going to make the trukks like Tow trucks. Lots of mobility and weird stuff. Dont know if you know, but you have no restriction on how many boyz mobs you can give 'Eavy armor to anymore. 4+ for everyone!!!!

Cool! :-) can you tell me about Lootas? they're the guys with the bigger guns right? equivalent to a SM Dev squad? I want to convert a squad so i'm looking to see what they have for weapons?

Yeah they are like a Dev squad. Their guns fire a random number of shots and just murder things if you get a good roll. They don't get cool diffrent weapons like the Dev squad but the Deffgun stats are something like

Deffguns are massive, kustom-built gun rigs. When fired, these weapons launch unpredictable barrages of rockets, bullets and blasts that can tear formations of enemy warriors to bloody shreds.
Range 48 Str7 Ap4 Heavy D3.

So they can look like anything really.

Lootas are very good if you typically roll well. I don't... so they tend to be wasted points. :(

I loved Lootas when i played orks. Theyre inexpensive and pack a mean punch. Mass fire of autocannons will overwhelm almost anything, and the range give them a huge threat bubble.

Conversion-wise, theres a ton you can do. Just use a basic ork boy, and slap on gunz!

Id recommend a full shooty list, with shootas instead of choppas. In my experience with 6th (and a MUCH lesser extent 7th), shooting is the big thing this game. Assault rules got annoying fast. Like Kommandos unable to assault after they appear on the board. That was really all they were good for! XD

I think you go Kommando, like a whole bunch of them. Going Kommando is very Nerdy, and think Ork delta force, buggies and bikes supporting some trukks. OOOO like that idea actually, forget I ever said anything I am off to do it for myself.

JK But I think you should maybe think of a Kommando force, would be very very cool and fun.

I always go Kommando! :-) but yes, that's what I have planned for my force! trukks,boyz,bikes all don delta force style may even give one a chuck norris beard!

the group images are more accurate as the single shots are a little washed and then sharpened so they lose some detail but the group shots look mint I'm keen to paint more red with the new BA models soon too! with these guys I tried to keep my palette simple, red/white/gold green lenses and I think it looks pretty snazzy!

I started fiddling around today with more things, got 10 DC marines without arms started as well as a Captain with a jump pack and 5man Vanguard squad :-) and even pulled down my 2nd Baal Pred! looks like days off are gonna be me jumping from one to another, so my update won't be singularly amazing but feature a bunch of stuff lolz

Those marines really glow.

Back in 2nd edition, the best ork strategy was to load all the boyz into wagons and put everything else into bike and buggy squads, then drive fast at the enemy guns blazing. Sounds like not much has changed.

So what's the next logical step for my army? Death Co. of course


So I needed to re visit how I paint black which was so long ago! and I am sticking with my theme of painting the DC in my old Marines Exemplar scheme which fits and looks good I think I started them today, had the bodies assembled from re purposed marines so some were a little worn but mainly all good for my needs arms are left off as they're red and primed separate. so far I've primed with black spray, then a hit of white from above them then washed with Badab black x2 then used administratum grey as a highlight and then washed with blue wash, next I re did some highlights with grey again and finally washed with badab black again and that's it! next will be the details and arms!

I also started something I had been meaning to do for ages! a Captain to lead my force a jump pack captain with my head fitting for BA with the pack and fitting for my own force with my head

I never liked all the rick-a-rack that GW puts on it's commander models honestly. Give him some simple thing to indicate his status and leave it at that.

re. his gear, it's strange to see a captain armed with a pistol and CC weapon. I think most of the 'bling' comes from special weapons, but without those weapons he looks quite normal. Although, the Mk4 JP and rib cage go towards being more captain-y.

Death Co. look good, too. Quite the lengthy process for the black . I'm curious, why the blue wash? What does it do to add to the colour?

Look at the head on that thing. It's a bloody spitting image. What model is the captain based around. I don't recognise it at all.

Could use some purity seals I think. Maybe some script on his shoulder pad?

Love how the death company are coming out, nerd. Loving the technique too! The wash-heavy style makes for great blends and great contrast, and from what you seem to be saying, its fast!

Ill echo the sentiments above- a purity seal or two wouldn't be amiss. And of course some extra squigglies and script on the shoulder and stuff. Perhaps swirls and filigree on his armor? Its an insane thought, but i dunnooooo... You could make it work

Yeah the Blood Angels are said to be major artisans when it comes to making armour and I think that sorta thing would help get that across.

I really like him. I think the sword could stand to be a bit more unique, maybe something from the Warp Talon box?

Hey Gents I finished Captain Naimad of the FleshEaters!

I was pretty quick with him as I just wanted to have a Jump pack Captain to be an option for HQ and I liked the model I made I actually think I first made it to be Lemartes but forgot

I took your advice and squiggled him up a bit to convey his position as a Captain of men! I think he looks good without being too blinged up but stands out among the normal marines

what do you think? he's for my own force so a few corners I cut and I know you'll notice but I've run out of basing stuff at the moment.









So, that's Naimad and now for where I stand with my DC. got them all armed, bolters, power fist, hammer, power weapon, hand meltas




This might not look like much, or that good for that matter but I washed GirrafeX's Libby a few times and am beginning to neaten him up. I'll finish the blue armour before I start the details but I want to practice smoothing the blue out more than my own models.

The captain looks a gajilloin times better with the swirly patterns on his armour. The lightning effect on the power sword is also masterfully done.
I love the contrast between the red and black on the death co.

The DC looks great. I have one little gripe, however. The red on the shaft of the thunderhammer gets a bit lost on the red of the rest of the models. It might be worth changing it to a different shade of red, or even a purple-y colour

If the color stays that Metallic black/ silver for your DC.. why not do the shoulders Red. Unless I'm missing something.

Lovely work Damo. I especially like the jump pack equipped captain- the sword is great and the filligree style patterns on the armour are inspired.

As for the DC, I'd leave the pads as-is?

I shall indeed keepeth my brush moist and continue at my earliest convenience with painting these models! although I will be honest and say that I may be slightly distracted by a parcel that arrived yesterday :-) it may have been of the nasty green variety!? and may have been freakin' awesome and if I show you then you'll want me to throw all my FE"s away and start on something new.....maybe....and in that vein I will implore GFX to peruse the Orkish Codexius to find out what's good!

My only problem with Spellcrow is that I've found a lot of their awesome looking bits to be way too small to use with 40k figures. Scale is just completely off even though they were specifically advertised as "heroic scale".

I think that's a painboy you've got there Damo... a very viable HQ choice is today's modern ork army! Been thinking about getting one of those figures myself!

Which is odd because their MAN equivalent are huge. Like Ghazzy sized.
