The chapter master looks fantastic damo. The cape effect is very nice, looks very shimmery. I could also imagine it on an eldar cape. What really pulls the model together though man is that awesome painting on the face - he looks royally pi..ed off! You are a master! Oh, and grats on dominating the gallery page today with your ferrus.
Bah, the speed and output totally mystify me, I figured I could paint 27 models in quick time at table top standard, you're pumping out primarchs in a day, chapter masters in (looked to be about 3 days) all to a level that has melted my mind....
Oooooooo that looks great! Not to mention I really dig how the cape came out, like really dig it. I might have to give that a go on something from Endless.
I see you're using pyriel's technique on the cloak (I mean you said as much... but it obvious to see too). It's quite good... though I think the dark shift on some of the spots might be just a bit too much. I'll have to take a look at his Salamander captain again and refresh my memory.

It might loo more start because the photo is blown up so much. It'd be good to see it resized to actual marine size - it'll make the paint look a heap more impressive as well!
Thank you all so much i'm really chuffed you think so highly of my little artistic endeavors! i'm pretty pleased with it all so far! that cloak was fun to do and I looked at the cloak Pyriel did on his Coteaz model and some photo's and the 'dotty' transitions are quite harsh from the dark to the light side, but the size of the image does effect the look, i'll see if I can snap a more normal distance shot for you to have a look at soon
today I tried *sigh* yet again to do a face tute ONE DAY I shall get clear shots! I can get them when they're in a model but you think I can snap a clear shot on a stick?
anyway, the first two steps are to prime black and then go over the face with Tallarn Flesh, we'll start the pics now from stage 3!
Stage 3: wash with Ogryn flesh & apply highlights with watered down tallarn flesh
Stage 4: Tallarn Flesh, Fortress Grey 70/30 highlight raised areas
Stage 5: 60/20/20 Tallarn Flesh, Fortres grey, Bleached Bone
Stage 6: add about 10% more bleached bone into previous mix
Stage 7: add about 5% more Bleached Bone and water down more
Stage 8: add some scab red into the previous skin mix and paint the bottom lip and blush cheeks and around bionics
Stage 9: Bleached bone teeth and base coat hair & beards then wash and re highlight and do metals
and a little insight, into how I paint, I tend to get a model and base coat all the main colours using brown for the base of any golds, parchment, leather then wash each bit with either black or brown ready for the net session!

speaking of tutes how do you mean Gits? do I get it all polished and give it to a mod or am I missing something? also any tips on getting good head shots? I'm macro-ing and trying everything I can think of but i'm obviously not happy yet......
That tutorial is good enough for me and I thought the pictures were certainly good enough.
I will definitely give it a go in the next few days when I do my TWC riders
Those are some cool heads that you painted, the one on the left kinda reminds me of a guy I used to work with.
Actually give that one on the left some hair and change the colour to dark it could almost be 40K Grumpy Gitsplitta (not that Gits is grumpy but that face looks it)

Naah, nothing that complicated. Just get it all squared away, copy the lot... then make a new post here Painting and Modeling Tutorials in the P&M Forum. Just a better place to put a solid tut, rather than burying it in your blog.
Thanks Gits I'll do that for sure, I may do a little catalog of things I find myself doing a lot like, Faces, reds, gold etc?
but first of all! I got new dice! thanks to last time and the dire results they gave me I bought new ones and grabbed a few out to give them a test roll and see what they feel like!.....
THIS does not bode well...................
and now back to my HG Terminator Libby! Oh yeah..... he's finished
Howling Griffons Brother Librarian Saavedro
and the force as it stands painted...
Next week will see a squad of Terminators join the fray!
Yeah dude, the axe head was from the Mantic Orcs I got secret santa time :-) was also last minute as I started to paint the staff then realised I needed to axe him up some! and I like how the purple lightning turned out too
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also think I might totally go nutso on my Landraider for them all and give the whole dam thing the decorative curtain treatment?
Well, I know the process involved even though I have only done the base designs on the DC Rhino, but I reckon I can do it for yellow and red considering it's a HQ transport? I think it'll suit the theme of the knightly style marines and since it's only a smallish force I can spend a wee bit of time on doing nice things for it? I mean, I've only got 3 more Primarch and a LR and Termies and a couple of chappies to do for the sharks right? lol :-) so yeah I'll smash it in!

What! you want me to cover my paintwork with a giant hankie? pish posh my friend! :-) yes I meant the swirlies, also looking for any ideas to mod it up some? ive seen pics of someone using imperial buildings windows to gothic it up somewhat!
I am pretty sure that Th Ultramarines Landraider, the arches were made from plasticard and the battle images were scanned copies painted up, can't remember how the text was done though.... They did a step by ste p of what they did in a WD back in the mists of time.
Possibly in or around the WD from when the LR was released.
I might actually have the LRWD issue :-) I'll go rummage around. what's the general opinion though? should I attempt something a bit ott for him? considering how many points it'll be in total for a squad and transport! (help me out here Whaley lol)
They look amazing Nerdy... Would like to see them photographed against a white or grey background. While the black is dramatic... we lose a lot of detail in the process.

Well, c'mon and throw us a few pics KC! I don't mind if you want to throw some ideas around on here, that was the first time I did it too and i've got a way to go before i'm happy with it so your work is relevant and frankly I want to see it

Hey Damo, considering I entered a squad in 2012 & got a finalist pin... I'm pretty sure you can do much more than that !
Dude.... you TOTALLY have the skills! Kick my ass any day of the week, thats for sure. your recent stuff has been absolutely amazing!
Even if you dont think you're good enough (which would mean you're delusional, honestly) You should do it just to do it! Get your foot in the proverbial paint pot!
As to the car... Whilst I am no gearhead, I appreciate the shots. Car's pretty sweet! Amazing countryside, too. Completely not what I expected around Tasmania... Like Madagascar, its just one of those places I've always thought of as being wild and no roads/civilization xD
What you don't see is the pack of dingos snatching babies from the nearby village just out of shot. Or the 18 deadly critters in that tall grass. Or the condor that swooped down and snatched Damo up never to be seen again.
I think its NZ where the sheep population outnumber the humans out there Cam & who are you calling old woof woof!!
And yes The car is gorgeous and yes I really want one and yes I am helluva jealous!! Especially when we get that beautiful profile shot of your car with the amazing pinky-dusk sky, looks like a picture from a car brochure!!

Condors eh!? we have nothing that exciting down here, just Tassie Devils and Tassie Tigers and as far as aviarian creatures go we only get a Wedge tailed Eagle with a 6.8ft wingspan *sigh* we need to do some work there...

You have one yourself Cam? do you have the twin turbo six like me or the V8 version? and you're not wrong about the power delivery, it's so damn smooth you don't even know when you've cracked 200! and you're not even at the end of your street! no abundance of sheep where i'm at dude, but I did try to get a shot of the herd of cows who were in the opposite paddock behind me!

Thanks Dantay! the reason I took the shots is i'm selling her but I still enjoy looking at her, I have an offer of a car swap, and in a couple of weeks maybe sooner i'll have a new toy to waste my money on! another turbo wagon just a four banger this time. Now about your faces (FACES) I think you've done a bloody good job man! I can see where on a couple you've reached your limit of focus but that happens when painting that small and delicate for a while, usually 3-4 is enough in a sitting for me as the concentration is intense, don't forget you can go back over the middle of the face again with agrax or fleshshade, just from the eyes to shadow them more and to bring the creases out on the cheeks and jaw, you just use a damp brush to remove excess from where you don't want it, i'm also considering doing Skype days where we can go through anything as i'm hopeless at getting a good shot recently

None that have been witnessed and lived to tell about. Just like dragons, unicorns and Eskimo the fearsome Austrailian winged flibertygibberty is ruthless in its attacks. No witnesses, no survivors .
Ah but like all the birdy's down under it's confused cus down is up and they are all flightless. One of the islands down there has killer parrots don't it?
Thats why the poor dog is locked in the car, feared of the Parrots see!
And no one wants to admit it but we have big cats up here in the hinterlands, they been growing big on the irradiated haggis. Oh and Golden Eagles, oh and lots of men in skirts, yup weez 'ard wee iz!
I got the big V BTW, can't believe you will trade away from that for a pocky little 4? Need MOOOOOORE POWER.!!
Me brother had one of those with like 400 bhp, went from 0-100 in like 1/2 a second, broke your neck every time you thought about accelerating, course only did 105MPH cus it was an import, used to make me laugh as I go sailing by listening to my clock ticking all the way up through to um hang on you can get done for admitting speeding can't you? yeah!, yup i never do more than the speed limit me.
Went to this from a Suburban with a 6.0L, and a Camaro with a 5.7L before that to a lil 2.5L, and love it every second of it, especially when I drive by the gas station. At least its not a fancy Passat though, am I right?

I kinda accidentally burnt myself out a little this week! I apparently didn't realise painting a squad of Terminators as the Howling Griffons quartered scheme would take me so long! but I soldiered on today and finished them up and they look pretty freakin cool! they are my beat stick Whaley worked out for me, a LR filled with these boys is gonna lay down some hurt!
lets have a look at them and see what you think? I thought with them being mainly just the two colours would mean I flew through painting but it was the crux's and lenses and little bits that took the time! but enough talk!
and there we go! the first full squad of my HG boyzzzzzz!
Thats some sweet yellow tones there Nerdy , what yellow you using there ? If, like me, you use a truly ancient pot of GW Golden Yellow you'll understand why that particular colour stresses me out !
Thanks guys! and thanks for pointing out rather quickly I forgot ONE SKULL ON A KNEE!!!! Sheeesh! a guy does one thing........ Oh and the barrels are indeed drilled Yggs, I just haven't darkened them as yet!
I'm thinking a Dreadnought next for them would look suitably serious and kick ass? anyone got a spare pennant or two hanging around? the quartered scheme on Dreads and vehicles is really going to look impressive I think, especially the LR with bunches of swirlies on it
I mean, if we want to point things out, I think you should do some color on the gun casing (black maybe?) as well as the icons on said guns. It's kinda hard to tell, but is the skull on the Asscan painted up, or just yellow as well. It's certainly not silver, at the least.

Feth! 2 skulls then....... how about I call them w.i.p? and I reckon i'll stick to my mass produced silver guns

A dread would look smart, check out the Puppets War "not a Dreadnought " that would be seriously bad ass. (weathered and chipped to bits obviously……)
What size banners are you after ? I have several troop sized ones spare as I can't freehand for toffee.
Oh yeah Dread times a comin' and I'm thinking of any sort of Knightly or regal style banners or pendants? you know like the old Knights used to have on their lances (the weapons)
Those colors just -glow-, nerd! Super happy to see how they turned out!! The white helmets and purple purity seals really put the minis a step above. Power sword is damn nice looking too!
Unlike some people, I think I can let you get away with missing a few minor skulls The fact that I do it all the time has nothing to do with it!
Im super excited to see a dread in these colors... Personally I've always loved big stupid banners on certain models. Banners and capes, banners and capes
Lol thanks Ramos! in fact you might not have to wait too long to see a dread! I planned to have this week off from painting to recharge th 'ol brush hand and went about cleaning the Nerd room...... where I got tempted to prime a dreadnought so I did..... as a HG..... then washed it all ready for a good painting! BUT I just saw episode 7 of season 4 of Game of Thrones and now need to keep watching!!!!!
Both bare heads are from the sternguard kit I think, I had the stern & the Van kits but i'm pretty sure they're both Stern heads!
the other background bare head is a BA one, I just popped it in as a stand in until I get a few GK helms it's not painted the bestest! ;-)

I think I'm pretty much done with the yellow but I'll touch it up after I do the rest of him as I'll probably get some paint on bits I don't want I also primed Whaleys Chaplains ready to actually start them and I sent BigH's bare heads and Elnibbus DKoK model in the post, two little light boxes that cost me $40! crazy thank you Aus post!
here's the dread so far, this is how all my models start out too, a little rough a little messy then I refine it each step until im happy with it and then take pics that hide the crap bits
You kept the BA one well hidden - I didn't even notice it!
Sheep wrote: Brilliant HG's mate, you have a really artistic flair/style that just pops out of the screen.
One question though, why is the dred halved, and not quartered?
That's the first thing that stood out to me as well... are you planning to add dreadnought-bling to him, or keep him plain, or freehand-a-go-go?
Easily fixed, just separate the model at the waist and turn him around. That will teach the dreadnought not to report to the techmarines for his yearly physical/repaint pivoted 180 degrees
he could be from the Squawking Chickens chapter and just trying to get reassigned, the do share similar heraldry except the Squawking chickens only have the halved pattern. It's to remind the tyranids that one side is white meat the other side is dark meat .
Well, he could always leave it as-is. After all, a quartered Land Raider or Rhino would (usually) look halved from the front angle. The Tech-Priests may have simply painted the venerable War Machine (with a warrior inside) in a manner that preserves uniformity with the Chapter's other War Machines - so as to not offend their Machine Spirits...

Looking brilliant. Dread, much better. The guys look great. Only a small point, shouldn't it be Red/Yellow, not Yellow/Red? .................................JK looks brilliant, and I have no idea.
Well that's just unacceptable El. We are all about the lowbrow here.
The freehand griffin came out great. Presumably you aren't going to do it in everything, but the larger things deserve some iconography. Interesting choice with the green robe on the chappy, they are looking good. Have we nominated one as "Crush" yet?
well seems my work here is done! :-) i've got people to buy models and recognize my blog is full of smutty humor and innuendo!
thanks for the props on the dread (now!) he's quartered to an acceptable level and I did indeed freehand the Griffon symbol :-) came out o.k and easier for the larger things I used a gift from a good friend of a micron pen to draw it first then went over it with some paint and yellow around the edge!
Whaley, I hope you don't mind the green robe? I know it's the same as the GW version but I was thinking along the lines of 'Sharks' ocean, sea etc.? I'll be chucking some tribal on it to make it different for you as well :-)
El, man that Quartermaster got to you pretty fast! probably because it cost twenty bucks and they felt bad lol! :-) I can't wait to see what you actually do with him, he's such a cool model and you certainly can do something fun with it!

one thing 'may' have been a Hordes Everblight starter wickedly cool models and while i'm yet to go through everything else that was in there they kinda stood out and i'm hoping you can help me figure them out what's the background of them? are they monsters/dragons/mutations? and where do they hail from? ice lands/ firey/ desert/ woodlands? are they squishy or hard ass? what colours are they normally represented with? i'm trying to figure out a way to paint them creatively with a solid theme
next week (yes Whaley it's a long way off it feels ) I'll do a quick (ha...quick) inventory of what's in the box! lots for me and a few VERY choice models for me to paint for Mr Whaley
lets get a Nerd Nerdspired o.k guys! Everblight a Go Go!
I am no help on them. They were a freebee in my Adpeticon Swag bag this year and rather then trade them away, thought "Maybe Damo will like these". Only scheme I've seen em in is the one on the box, with is iceland-y.
yep, it's the start of Ramos' and I joint painting smackdown! both of us are pumped to get our Knight on! and all I can say to Ramos is! ....."Knighty Knight beeeeatch" I started today on the metals which is quite a lot of the model, I want to try and get a more aged battle worn effect like I'd imagine a glorious war machine of the Mechanicum would have!
but before I continue,my day started with a box..... well the box arrived from his travels last week but as you can see has been quite happy in the Nerd Lair.....
In this box was another box..... and in that box was....
GOODIES!!! lots of stuff for my FleshEaters as well as 3 more Primarch models to paint for that Dakka stalwart Whalemusic! and he was an absolute LEGEND with the stuff he threw in for myself like some Dev marines and Grey Knights and other game system models i'm gonna be set for at least a week lol. Also was the next chapter of the Space Sharks adventure, being a Landraider and a bunch of Termies! they're going to look so nasty vicious when I get them done!
and now it's the Knight of the living Knight! Knighty Knight Knights? Shanghai Knights? Sexy Knighties? Saturday Knight live? A midsommer Knights dream?
Enough of that I'd like to introduce you to.... Kiera..... ...... geddit?...... Kiera!..... Knightley.............Kiera Knightley.....Sigh
The metals on the knight looks excellent. As for the help with the ever light stuff I am at a loss, I never could get into warmahordes. Something about the style, which is strange as I'm a huge fan of the artists work in card games.
Now back to work or me and my fraternal order of knights may have to say THAT word to you. You know the word, last time someone failed to appease us there was a herring involved ets not have a repeat performance EH?

That said... er... How do I say this without complementing my BLOOD SWORN ENEMY!! (haaaaaaaah! =P ) I guess I kinda like the grimy metal you ended up with... I love the purplish-orange tint you managed to get. Looks super sharp!
(and is it just me or does that box look worried.... perhaps hes seen too much in the NerdLair )
Thanks guys, I like the metals so far, wanted an aged look so i've washed it with purples and blues and i'll wash with sepia and then re highlight and see how it looks! i've gotta try something different to keep pace with captain girly pants over there in Ramos' thread! :-)
I've also just gotten an undercut a pair of tight jeans and a paisley shirt with the sleeve rolled right up so I can drive my new car (you bums!) but believe me it does NOT sound or behave like a hairdressers car :-) and i've got plans people! PLANS for Bugsy!!!
but before I delve into the mad mad world of wrx tuning I've got more pressing matters like finishing Kiera!
Dread looks much better - love the freehand chapter icon! - and the PA guys are coming along nicely. I also like the metal work on the knight's body. Will you be giving Kiera some Bomber-style pin-up nose art ...of Kiera Knightly in a skimpy outfit and suitable pose?

What direction? Hmm...
Well, if you want to continue down the current road you could go with hardcore old-school rap, like ICE-T, Public Enemy, NWA etc, or even Eminem for something more recent. There's also a lot of good stuff in early 90's grunge, or if you're after something harder that you can dance to, there's a line of quality music from Ministry to Rammstein that also works well (beware of the crap ones, though!)
If you mean the Knight, I'm quite partial to the red/yellow thing you have going (to tie in with the Griffons?) Turquoise would really work well against them as an accent colour - perhaps on the shoulder pads as part of the personal heraldry, though if you want to be more strict to the rules of heraldry you could use blue or green instead.
Looking at that scroll on the side of the gun made me think of brass etch - if you have any forgeworld brass etched scrolls, they would work well to add to any flat panels on the bare metal - and then to paint them as part of the metal - a cast-or-bolted on metal scroll that has aged identically to the metal it's attached to (like that scroll). A scroll and name for each of the weapon arms, perhaps?
Its just too damn good, Nerd!! The shifting colors you got on the metals is just superb! I think my favorite two shots are the close up of the Battle Cannon and the second shot looking up at the knight.
Is it just a whole bunch of washes you used? Absolutely in love with the look!
Keep it up, nerd! Really looking forward to seeing you tackle the solid colors now!
Thanks Ramalangadingdong! solid colours are started and shaping up...... different.......
and yep, mate it's mainly focused washes and highlighting again and again in parts in between the different washes, so for instance i'll wash it with black then purple, then highlight with boltgun and then continue washing over it so it shows the highlight but colours it and makes it more blended without blending :-)
I am trying something new for me with the armour plates and so far it looks good, I just hope the camera can get a decent representation to show you soon! :-)
RAMOS: For someone your age you should be running this partner! But with your level of skill you just need to try harder, a one trick pony with your patterns and ink and 99% of Dakka think that you stink. Blind to the fact that your brushes are splayed you should just stay in the bedroom and masturbate with Nerd RaAAAAGE!.
Flesh Eaters? Or Howling Griffons we need a break from your indecision it’s man up time and I have to add, learn to paint ‘cos you are BAD!
Cables and pipes are part of a model so much wash to hide them I can drown in the puddle!
Nerdfest: You can’t brush, you’re a chump you blow harder than your airbrush! Switching on skill doesn’t cut it in my world! With your Iwata your Badger your Paasche and your chrome, a lack of talent and finesse is just what you’ve shown , you see blending’s a skill and man I’ve got it in spades while you make your excuse “it’s just so I can play”
You run your paint in a jar and can churn out the numbers, but if the power goes out you hide under your covers,
while I see the front page and did it all on my own the time your airbrush hose broke was the only time you’ve been blown!
Oh my sweet lord am I happy with this model! I was pushing myself to try new styles with my work when Ramos and I decided to have a friendly 'Knight of the Living dead' comp! I wanted to do a different red than my usual method which works well on my line troops and vehicles but I felt this needed something more? it is an ancient and venerable machine from the hallowed artisans of Mars after all
what did I do? well I believe I've nailed a good representation of automotive candy red not perfect but for using brushes and mainly GW paint I think it's great! I primed with my usual Dragon Red an then washed with Agrax, then I used a slightly watered gold and with a watercolor brush I painted over the reds in long strokes so it was even coverage. Once dry I washed with crimson and Bloodletter glazes and then with Minitaire ghost tint and darkened the recesses with Agrax again looks cool but hard to photo due to the light hitting the colour as it changes to gold but in one shot you can see it on Kiera's chest plate I also had fun with the base by the addition of a Mechanicus Magos saying prayers to appease the war machines spirit!
well, with my chest puffed out with pride I gladly would like to introduce you to 'Kiera Knightley' Bane of heretics across the galaxy!
v this pic on the chest plate is a glimpse of what the whole red armour looks like in the light
I really do like what i'm doing lately I just think my current stuff just looks cool! I really hope you guys like them too.
Looks pretty awesome Damo! Looks like hes been around the block a few times, nicely weathered. Only criticism is the AM logo above his head. The inner skull on it should be flipped (but the ring the same).
It's a very nice Imperial Knight mate, but I feel mislead and cheated by the thread title. But then I shouldn't have expected Dakka to relax its policy on hardcore pornography.
Beautiful work. The red aside, it's the crisp rivets, the brutally believable.weathering, soot stains, edge highlighting on the filigree - all the little details, basically - that just knock.my socks off.
Thanks guys so many replies apart from the priming it was all done with brushes too! and I was going to add something to the shield but I wanted to add some small cogs from watches etc but I didn't have any on hand, maybe when I get some I'll do it but if that's the only bad point then i've done well!
I gotta say, when I do something like this I always feel I need to do everything like it standing over my formidable (although yet to win) FleshEaters Kiera looks the boss!
So now that's one big ass model done and dusted i've got some WhaleModels360 to paint! might get myself primed and ready next week for them!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and the praying robed dude is from Anvil Industries
Hope you're happy... you made me pull an all nighter to get the Twins finished off!
MAN does that look amazing!!! I am absolutely floored by that red... Looks like Ill have to plan a trip to Tazzy to see it in person (Ill even steal back one of WMs Knights ) The candy effect looks like it worked wonderfully, and it really plays well with the dark metals. Truly a venerated warmachine!
All in all, Im super stoked to see how this all turned out. We got such wildly different end products that its astounding! Glad we pushed each other to the very end... Definitely something we gotta do again!!
Oh, and the rap was ace, I should add. Alas that I am not such a lyrical wordsmith, and cannot rap a rebuttal... I think you might have won that battle anyways with that last line!!! xD
I've been out of the hobby for a long time now and all I can say is I love your work. I can up easily read this thread and know you will never disappoint. I just went through the last four months.... Just beautifull. Your faces are astounding, I love the Primarch and whatever that last thingy was. You almost get me to want to paint again... almost. I think I need more inspiration for that lol.
Beautiful work on the knight Damo. The way you've handled the metals is extraordinary and your mastery of red comes shining through. The eyes are nothing less than haunting and the emotionally overwhelmed Adeptis Mechanicus Priest is a perfect accent. (Reminds me of the titan clip from the old Epic video game).
Thank you gentlemen I hold praise from you in high esteem! I was pretty nervy about painting Kiera tbh! I've always liked the idea of painting these centerpiece models but always choked when I started anything, this time i've now given myself confidence to pretty much tackle whatever I want now :-) bring on summer and my ZM board! and Whaleys Primarchs...
SO, what's been happening? well I got 3 hours in today and was really in the groove for work and I managed to get quite a way into base coating/washing three more Primarch models for WM! Lorgar,Horus and Morty have seen some decent brush love today
as usual I primed and then over sprayed them with white so I can see my shadows etc. this is good for me when I wash them with the washes that will determine the colours and shades I'll work with. today I washed all the parts I needed to and started Morty's armour and Horus' marble base!
so lets see where i'm at!
Tre Brothers
lets start with Horus.....
Next on the belt is Lorgar, a really nice model with a real sense of power which is suprising due the pose but when you see it in front of you.....
finally rounding out the trifecta is Mortarion, love this model I can really enjoy getting lost in the feel of his Legion and how to give him worn yet powerful armour!
Thank everyone! Hmmmm fave so far? Oh lordy that's a tough question Whaley! probably Fulgrim i'd say at this stage but Morty I've got a soft spot for and Lorgar may technically end up being another close call just on painting methods alone?
Morty so far is only a sepia wash over the white with a tiny green wash on parts and agrax shadows! and the marble on Horus' base is the same as I tackled the ruined aquila :-)
my goal as I've spoken to Whaley about is to get every Primarch I paint to feature at some point on the Dakka gallery front page! so I'm going to bloody well make sure I keep pushing and doing my best effort! :-)
I've officially gone from liking you to hating you . Seriously I mean "I only had three hours so I knocked out three primarchs to a level so far beyond theo's comprehension its funny "
nerd rage almost makes me made enough to come down there and teach you a lesson.....if it wasn't for your native fauna
Great work, jealousy got the best of me there.....sorry

Ah no bother Theo i'd be glad to have any Nerds come visit me! but seriously there's not much done yet to the Pimarchs, just base colours and washes mate and I know you can do that
dude the primarchs look sick. i really dig logar. mortian looks great as well...i wanna eee like a school girl after seeing them.. i havent been doing much of any thing but i think you may have tipped the balance in the back to do stuff category.
Hey guys it's scale tipping time for Bama! did some brushy brushy on Lorgar today and think he's looking just as cool as I hoped! try and check out the face so far it's only roughed in with shading but I tried my idea for his trademark golden skin after playing with Kiera's Candy armour! and lo and behold it bloody works! gives him a wet golden look without obscuring his face and making it appear pure gold which was a concern a few more highlights and shadows and his face will be done! his armour is going well too, the gold is done and the iron parts are nearly there, i'm contemplating some washes to add subtle colours through it? thoughts?
His base I'm chugging along with too, I'm not going crazy as it's a large chunk of earth and I want your eye to be drawn towards him and the steps I added some little energy swirls coalescing in the symbols at his feet conductive of the power of his oratory!
More tomorrow! I reckon i'll be nearly done with him hopefully and i'll be done adding the base colours on the other two boyz!
Head looks good, golden but not overwhelmingly so. I think the armor could use some more something. Maybe the same type of energies on the ground in the runes on his armor?
Very nice, I'm really interested in your technique of washes over zenithal primer, the effect you have got on Mortarian and Horus' armour in particular, just from a wash, looks spectacular. Lorgar is coming on really well although something about the model still feels a little off to me, I think it is the rounded abdomen. He also reminds me of Lex Luthor
Wow.... just wow.... You seriously need to set your sights on a Daemon, man, cause your skill is THERE!
Glad to see that you learned a little something from our knight-off
Does look like you lost a point on his mace, though. Upper right on the top picture... The rest of him looks great though.
I do agree with WM about the armor needing a little something more, though Im hesitant to say put some of the glow on it... mostly cause I dont want to muck up the excellent work thus far! Really though, if anyone could pull it off, itd be you!
As to the rest, damn it they look great!
I really must learn your Marble technique... Looks absolutely perfect!
What wash products do you use? All GW or is there something a bit more secretive to your technique?
Thanks Ramos nothing secret I just use GW washes and at times I just use a really watered paint if I want it translucent but still the same colour as i'm using.
Lorgar is a tough model only for the reason you guys are alluding to, his pose is static and therefore it feels like the armour needs some more pop I have been playing with a little bit more energy on his thigh and it works even though the image makes it blurry, his mace is missing that spike but I cannot find it anywhere nor anything close to match it.
he's also close to done.
and a touch more colour on Horus, just beginning the green on his pads and the fur of his cloak.
Morty, yep, I'm really going to love getting into this one! I was just going to see what a little pale washing would do and have nearly finished the white parts of the armour panels, once some more streaks and metals its gonna rock!
So much fun! Ive got tomorrow to paint then I'll be sporadic for a couple of weeks due to crappy rosters but I'll try and get Lorgar finished and photoed so we can see if he's good enough for the gallery
Automatically Appended Next Post: With Morty I'm thinking of parts of a house that don't see much sunlight so they get moss/mould, hence the front is cleaner while his rear which if he face the sun is in shadow and damper!
Hey Ad, thanks dude :-) I'm enjoying these three at the moment and can foresee Horus being the trickiest but I'm already planning Vulkan I think he'll be exciting
You know, i think that the armor could look pretty damn awesome done up in glowy recesses.
I dont know if you added another wash between pics, but the metal is discernibly more brownish-red I very much like the shift in color!
Horus' wolfskin looks crazy as well... How exactly did you paint that? It has awesome tonal shifts that really makes it lifelike.
Just cuz I trust doesn't mean I don't want to know what goes on in that painting head of yours. Wait, I don't want to know that. Gross, quit it! Eeeeewwwwwe.
A stern figure, fatherly in countenance yet lurking beneath the surface was the passion and determination of a single minded warrior, Lorgar's deep resonant voice gave all those who heard him pause as his oratory was both stirring and manipulative......
I now finished another Primarch! Lorgar, if you didn't guess
my thoughts? I like him! as you'd expect but it's the fact he looks like he's holding himself in check ready to unleash that frackin' great big mace that gets me! I wanted him to sort of look like the whole models been dipped in tea like when you made fake pirate maps as a kid! I want each model to be noticeably different in regards to depth of colour and shades of gold/bronze so Lorgars a very warm model for me.
Lorgars face was a favorite part to do, having a challenge is something I like to tackle when painting! and trying to get a golden skin without being too much was fun! I think it worked well, Whaley can tell you better what it's like when he gets him in hand.
and here he is!
and I am pretty sure I added the pictures so you can finally just click and vote for him in the gallery? (please) I'm trying to smother the front page in Primarchs! so if it's not any trouble would you mind going galley hunting and vote or me?
Well I just read through all 169 pages, made a dakka account, and have to say... AMAZING! From the start to the end your work has been beautiful, and it can only get better!
And another one bites the dust! another of the brothers grim! Mortarion who's lets be honest probably the most grim of the bunch!?
firstly thank you everyone who's commented and hanging around in here lately, I appreciate it and am sorry i've been a little busy to give you all the time you deserve but to try and make it up to you i've got a finished Mortarion to show you!
he was just as much fun as I had hoped to paint! and I had to paint him in a really different style than my clean style! he's really gritty and dirty but not decrepit. his armour I tried to make it look white and mouldy like it hasn't seen much sunlight and had been in a cold damp environment for years while he's worn it! his face I used space wolf grey instead of bone to highlight and used purples to shade it so he looked a bit corpse-ish for his cloak I wanted it to look thicker than normal, kind of like a waterproof canvas tarpaulin cover and I think it works with his style.
I hope like him as much as the others and I finally got the images sorted for click and vote! I encourage you to have a click and check them out closer up so you can see the detail
Until next time...... until .... next.....tiiiiiimmmmme!
Thanks everyone! :-) I don't know what i'd do different if I did him again, maybe give him 'normal' skin? dunno really but I do like him! next is Horus so I really got to bring my A game for him! lets see how I go as he's quite an important one!
I love how the face looks almost corpseish it just seems appropriate for him lol, I'd say my favorite parts would be the face and scythe, gives him a very grim reaper esque appearance.
Hey everyone got a little box in the mail full of BIG!
yes indeedy I scored myself by way of a rather generous friend (whom I shall repay tenfold!) a large scale marine from the Deathwatch!! I've wanted to do one of these for simply ages but other things kept me from grabbing one, now I've got one and couldn't help but start it I filed off the Deathwatch pad stuff and will be painting him as a FleshEater I was going to go HG but I think my FE's deserve the first big model to honor them!
anyway here he is, just primed and washed getting ready for real paint
Now I can almost hear Whaley crying from here? "Uhhh where's my Horus?...."
Tis alright dude I did some more today, not heaps but based all the parts that shall be gold, and damn that's near all of him!!
more tomorrow,it's just a paint day tomorrow until the groomer comes out to wrangle my 3 kids!
Morty looks damn impressive, dude! I love the chalky whites and dingy greens. The whole thing just has that sense of decay around it, that speaks of things to come.
I think my favorite parts on it are where the rusty browns and the green patina meet (like the backpack). It becomes this area of really bizarre and beautiful contrast.
Giant dude is awesome (I want one ), and Horus is shaping up really nicely. The lime green shoulders really got toned down! Very much looking to seeing him all bright and finished.
Getting close to finishing Horus now He has turned out to be a little trickier than I thought he's got so many parts with tiny edge detail that meets with other parts and keeping it neat is hard to do! but I had to swallow my disappointment and keep painting the detail until I could see the whole picture I was going to give him a rich copper gold but ended up doing it like I usually do as it just looks better with his countenance
he should be done tomorrow (fingers crossed) and I do indeed think i'll be happy with him when he's all done, I really like how his face is turning out it's probably one of my best I think!
Finished Horus today! man, he's sculpted well! if you're the imaginative type you can see the light hit him and imagine the aura around him as he strides through the deployed forces striking foe and inspiring marines
He was challenging, very fiddly lots of hard to reach places and subtle details but I'm pleased with the result, it's a great feeling when something doesn't feel like it's as good as you can do and when it all comes together it just fits like a puzzle! his face I think is the great part that links him with the history of his name, it's stern, almost baby face but still looks lie it can crack into rage or bust forth into a smile of greeting.
anyways here's a butt load of similar pictures to check out and I think I did the pics right this time
You really are raising your game here, which I wasn't sure was possible! Now for the nitpick - although it's not really a nitpick - freehand. I know it's an astoundingly detailed model, but I would suggest that were you to go in for GD (which you're clearly at the level of), use of intricate freehand would, I think, push you into the top tier. Just a wee thought.
Bloody hell!! This is another level! Great work... the tones and features of the face are really impressive! As you mention.... you get a real sense of character.....
So I just caught up on the ~20 pages I was behind and Damo, I'd just like to say one thing.
You're a fething showoff.
And we love it!
Everything you put a paintbrush to ends up being awesome. It must really suck to be you.
Kiera is utterly gorgeous, your rapping sucks ( ), the sharks and griffons are stunning and the Primarchs are probably the best I've seen yet.
In short, I hate you.
How's the ZM board coming along by the way? Haven't seen an update for that in a while.
Also, does Horus look cross eyed in this pic? Like a fly has landed on the bridge of his nose or something. Anyone else seeing it?
Thanks dudes and dudettes! so that's Horus all done and dusted now i'm waiting for Vulkan *taps foot impatiently!*
I've been fairly quiet brush wise but not totally asleep I have the next batch of Space Sharks to paint and got them all glued back together and primed ready for go time! I think i'll see if I can challenge myself to paint them all in a day?
and I had a massive flash of egocentric thoughts today in regards to my beloved Flesh Eaters and I shaved the head of the large marine i'm doing and decided to create a Damo Marine I based the colours and washed them with some washes he should take another session to come to fruition and I reckon he'll look pretty wicked!
So that's me for another week, just enough to hopefully keep you interested I also organized 3rd prize for the next Nerdcademy award! so stay tuned!
