Sorry, I was looking at it with American eyes. I don't *think* the covered wagons lasted as long here (or at least didn't mix as commonly with modern cars). I could be wrong though... not a historian.

I think you're right Cam- given the distances in North America (Canada has similar challenges, probably Mexico too) there would have been pressure to develop father-reaching faster transportation. But the 'tried and true' ways hung on in some places: in my region of the Finger Lakes in New York State milk was delivered in the major towns and their suburbs by horse-drawn milk float in to the 1960's.
And I'm still waiting for my Jonny Quest Jet Pack!

That is the level of stowage I try for on most of my vehicles- those LRDG guys knew how to pack a Jeep. Great detail on yours that you don't often see are the sand ramps stowed across the back- they were absolutely essential but hard to put away someplace, unless you used them (as you have) as a backstop for the gear in the rear seat.

Excellent contrast between the camo pattern on the lower steel hull and the upper covered with zimmerite! How did you get that holey flecktarn pattern? It almost looks like a (very) old method where one would paint the under color, put blobs of rubber cement on, paint the over color and then rub the rubber cement off (like the salt weathering method, but for larger 'holes').
And the color palette is spot on for German WWII.

I like how the colors are reversed; the bottom of military planes were usually a sky color on the belly and the top was an earthen or sea color. I'm seeing the plane just flying upside down because the Ork pilot thinks it makes it more shootee or something.

question...will you be adding some colour to the carvings? the knots could be in red to add a slight extra pop?

Post by: Archer
When I did roof thatch for my buildings I used a straw broom. Snipped it off to the desired length and layered it up slowly.
My wife says I should have created little “bundles” of the thatch and lay them on instead of building up the layers as that is apparently how a thatched roof is actually built.
I lost patience after the first couple of houses and ended up piling the straw on. It looks ok and good enough for me. But I could have done better.
65595
Post by: Camkierhi
Thanks guys.
Thinking of maybe bundling the threads. I'm using jute string. And unpicking it to smaller. Finishing off with milliput sculpted. But it is slow and results are OK, but not great.
43382
Post by: Archer
Could you soak the threads in a weak PVA glue mix and let the dry so they are a tad firmer. Then they could be more solid when you bundle them together? May look a tad to plastic though.
123017
Post by: Olthannon
That jute string has a really nice look to it. Might be slow but the end result looks great. I don't know if this might help you but for the next one try a higher roof structure underneath and apply the string thicker at the eaves. That way you'd get a thicker appearance without the need for making it look like yelms. Most Saxon buildings had pretty thick layers and they extended out far to allow for the formation of drip gulleys.
I love the carvings, especially around the door.

The fuselage basically being one massive missile is great.
I wonder if you could build a dakkajet off a Deathstrike missile...

it´s an orky airwolf... the old tv show... it had thrusters too!

I feel like both those sentences traslate to "orky, yes"
It looks great Cam, and I can totally see orks making a hybrid jet/chopper

Not bad WIP shots at all!
The coloring on the wolf mounts is very impressive- the middle one in the group shot especially is very interesting: realistic and unusual at the same time.
Your bench is- believe it or not- more organized than mine at the moment.
I'm intrigued by the bottle of Naked Rain in the background. A container for a solution of mold-wetting spray is too mundane; what's it for really? The mind boggles!
All looking very good, indeed.

More completed. This was a ebay save. So certain bits like the cloth doors were already there, I just repainted them. But the tentacles are all mine...
I did rip off the sponsons and repositioned them forward.
More soon.

Some shots now of another project I'm working on. Commissioned to make 28mm scale city/ town walls from Saxon period. So I made some masters, made molds and have cast then in resin. To save on resin only the sides and top are cast, over a foam centre.
And some stairs...
More soon. Automatically Appended Next Post: And here is an update on the figures..
First up "Hacksaw Petunia" ...

@ the thatch question, I sculpted it in milliput and then cast it in resin. So I can make large panels of it.
Just a quick and dirty kitbash. Very much a WIP at mo.
Couple naughty little grots got in the meks spares pile, and have knocked up a wee flyer. Needs more vrrm vrrm and dakka, and a paint job!

Talking of which. These 3 are Regimental Attaches. One is a kitbash. The other 2 are original metal minis.
Painted up for a friend at club.
Next is a commission from another guy. He saw my armies and asked if I could paint his. To start with here are 5 of 10 highlanders. Yes I have to paint tartan!!

Merry Christmas Cam.
You are very productive these days. That is very good news. The tiny planes look cool. A biplane actually flew over my house about 1 month ago. It was a fluorescent green. Probably a stunt plane, but cool to see. Did you have a particular clan in mind when you painted the kilts?
Ah, have you heard of something called museum putty? (also called quake hold hereabouts) It's similar to blu-tac but has noticeably superior sticking power. I mention it because I see all those mini holders you have, and its use is to hold minis to some sort of stand while painting.

Post by: SirDonlad
The scale of your "side projects" is mind boggling...
"oh yeah, i'm just casually starting a praetorian army..."
Your corrupted knight is triggering my disgust response so it must be a damn fine example of its breed.
Also; maximum kudos on the superglue lid thrusters for the ork plane - they look fantastic! I mean, the plane is great too but that's a particularly well executed re-purposing/recycling job right there. Full-on 'Grav-Attack' tier.
And very pleasing to see an apocalypse game which isn't ruined by people like me turning up with god-engines.
Blessings upon you and your house, sir!
