Some cracking paintjobs there, the Vashtorr thing is really nice the way you've finished it - I much prefer the pallid flesh with rustish staining to the light purple/violet organic look the Eavy Metal team produced.
I also like the contrasting glassy black of the armour on the Venomcrawlers - very 'honeypot ant'.
The wings on the Deamon are fantastic and the murial armour plates on the knight are 'chefs kiss' tier.
Great show in general really, thats a fantastic looking chaos force!

Thank you guys so much.
Just a quicky update...
Been working on this....
And finishing up this....
Worked on another buggy I am just finishing up. Pics soon. I often find scale creep an issue This ^ tiny buggy is actually to scale correct, were the next one only just fits on the right sized base, but looks much more "proper" reminding me of an old Bently or something. Just expressing thoughts, do any of you struggle with scale creep?
Thank you so much for looking in.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
When scratch building it is always a major issue as I try to build in scale with the minis and not what reference pieces might size up to be... I always end up bigger with my builds than GW would...
22619
Post by: inmygravenimage
Cor. Nice Reaver. And as always, your scratch is more than up to scratch
43382
Post by: Archer
I have never attempted anything of your level of work, so any converting I do is based upon an existing model so that defines my scale for me.
The closest I have come to a total scratchbuild was a Hydra I did and that still used a Forgeworld turret I had lying around and the outer chassis walls of a Chimera so I didn't have to think about how big to make it.
86460
Post by: Cap'n Facebeard
His big shoota is almost bigger than the buggy!
I guess GW's vehicles have always been too small really.
116601
Post by: Syro_
Nice Reaver and Buggie Cam
Yeah, I have trouble with scale creep too when scratch building. I've built three stompas, and each one ended up noticeably bigger than the previous. When sculpting I have even more difficulty keeping the scale to 28mm heroic.
95956
Post by: Gulgog TufToof
Reaver and buggy look great Cam!
At 28mm, scale creep is definitely a thing.
I am currently making an ork boy sized bionic arm for the Boop Beep competition and although I've only cut and glued the shoulder joint and the upper arm (not even past the elbow yet), I am already in MANZ/KillaKan territory.
I tried to sculpt two bomb squigs out of greenstuff and either one could swallow a gretchin whole.
As others have mentioned, GW vehicles aren't really to scale anyway. I decided to make a truck that would actually fit 10 troops with 25mm bases, and it's the size of a battlewagon or more.
You do you, and the rest of us will continue to marvel in awe at your fantastic creations regardless of size/scale.
62749
Post by: Dr H
Nice work, Cam'.
The relative scale of things for GW miniatures is a tricky thing.
As they are designed as gaming pieces, the figures are larger for the scale so they are visible on a table and are not too fragile.
Yet the vehicles are small for the scale, so they don't take up too much space on the table.
It's just about treading that fine line of believeability. Switch off "logic" and turn on "cool", but sprinkle on the little details that trick the mind into "yeah, it works".
Everything needs to be a little chunkier to match the figures (steps/handles/details), but empty spaces (cargo/ammo/passenger bays) are shrunk to save space in the eventual model.

Rivet line detailing on wings.

Post by: inmygravenimage

Post by: Meer_Cat
This is a terrific build! I feel you on the angle-cutting (my secret is to measure with a micrometer, mark it with a crayon and cut it with an axe). And by golly if I ever do something a metric crap-ton of rivets again, I'm embossing them rather than glue on discs.
Rock on, man!

Squiggoth is looking promising. For vehicles with scale if it looks right it is right vehicles are a ariety of sizes in the real world so they shoud be in fantasy land and I doubt Orks would build anything standardised in fact I can imagine a buggie gradually becoming a truck then a battlewagon and finally a battlefortress as the crew get more successful and survive more battles....

OK bunch of stuff. First up miscast. These were bought as miscast. Failed prints. I figured it would be a chance to practice if nothing else.
Well in the box I got a lot of models. Here are a mall selection of a couple I painted up recently. I have not tried to fix them at all.
Next is a statue figure....simple.
Next a friend asked for a Treebeard miniature for the War of the Ring game. So I sculpted one. He is onn a 25mm base for scale.
