Most Training camps officially start this Friday. I figured it was about time to get the dakkadakka football thread up and running.
After the Patriots off-season turmoil I'm looking forward to getting the year started and moving on. Who will be the AFC contenders this year? Baltimore lost a TON of players. The broncos could be losing a huge part of their defense for a 1/4 of the season. The patriots will be without rob gronkowski for a part of the season, and Dennard for some of the season, and of course Hernandez. Could the texans be the power this season again? So many storylines I love this time of year but can't wait for the season.
Also who ran leagues last year? It was kronk right? We doing another pick-em and of fantasy league this year?
Ahh my bad kronk who ran it then? Piston or someone else?
Yah this could be the texans year they're still stacked and the rest of the AFC has seemingly gotten worse. Although I gotta ask what's with the "themed" home games haha. Do the texans really have problems selling out?
It's just something the owner started with a few games the first season and has been adding to it.
I went to the Dallas/Houston game a few years ago and it was FREAKING packed. You couldn't park within 2 miles of the stadium with all of the fething tailgaters. None of them had tickets, either. I fething hate that.
Edit: I don't recall who did the league. I thought it was you!
Yah I just tried checking who ran it and that's the only past league I can't view for some reason. I'm totally down to run leagues this year if no one else wants to.
And gorgon how much does BIG Ben weigh now? ;p He was huge last pic I saw, like seriously entering Jamarcus level of overweight. And how do you think losing Wallace is gonna effect the stealers?

Perhaps in a year or two if the rookies and Bradford play up to their potential
Yeah... they're looking good right now. I think they're primed to squeak into the playoff this year and really take off in the next couple. Bradford finallyhas some offensive weapons at his disposal.
I'll try my best to get involved with this thread this season, but I have no team I wish the NFL would pull the finger out and create a franchise in London. I remember the names we came up with a while back: London Redcoats or London Fog.
I'll have to adopt a team based primarily on which emblem I like. I'm edging towards Tampa Bay or Miami.

And personally I feel a London franchise would be too costly and doesn't have the base for it. Austria would genuinely get better crowds etcetera

Take a look at the up and coming Rams...
Here's the first round pick this year:
That dude got some serious gears. o.O
This one here, a later rnd pick, is going to be a sleeper:
And I'd argue that the RAM's defense will be in the top 3 this year.

For local American football teams they have a much better foundation and draw better crowds (www.raiders.tv shows the Innsbrucks Raiders home games, go have a look )
Urlacher went but this past year he was pretty poor aside from his pick six against Tennessee and perhaps a couple of sacks, no east/west movements and was missing easy openfield tackles. We also lost Nick Roach (OLB) to Oakland and Idonije (DL) to Detroit, but brought in DJ Williams (LB) from Denver, Turk McBride (DE), Tom Zibkowski (S), James Anderson (LB) as well as Drafting Jon Bostic (LB), Cornelius Washington (DE) and Khaseem Greene (LB). Even is it isn't as good this year it will return to it's form in a couple of years.

Finnegan is definitely one of those guys you'd LOVE to have on your team, but would absolutely HATE playing against him. I still can't believe how he gets away from his cheap act.

Off the field... the man is all class act.
Like hockey players!
Hopefully this year Cutler can shake his persona that the media has given him, you'd be pissed off all the time to if you got sacked every down. Finally an offensive line, a tight end, plus you got brandon marshall and up and coming Ashlon Jeffery. Urlacher did retire because he wanted too much, the bears knew what they were doing, in the last two seasons urlacher had only played enough games to fit one season, he's old and dusted he made the right decision to retire. Urlacher lives in AZ I've met him a few times at best buy. Also with him retiring I was able to get his new nike jersey at 75% off. WOOOOO
@whembly I think your dead on about bailey. I wanted the patriots to draft him so bad. He's gonna be really good I think.
I'm super interested to see how Armond Armstead works out for the patriots. If he can be half the star Cameron Wake is It'll be a HUGE boon for our defense. Coming from the CFL is always an interesting transition. But usually the stats perform in the nfl too.

Huh? He seemed to be in decent shape in the last pic I saw. His "Fat Ben" stage probably peaked around 2009, so maybe the pic you saw was from that time. Seems like ever since he got married, the wifey has kept him fairly lean. Did a search and found a vid from June. You can get a pretty good look at him about a minute in, and he looks pretty trim to me. Note that he has that double chin thing no matter how fat or skinny he is.
I think Wallace is more of a loss than some Steelers fans want to admit, but the person who makes the offense go is Roethlisberger. He won a SB with Hines Ward and Antaawn Randal-El as his WRs, which has to be the smallest, slowest set of WRs in the modern SB era, LOL. Still, with Heath Miller still injured, his receiving corps is very thin. I expect that they'll be running the ball more this year.
A lot rests upon the o-line. It's finally a younger bunch with some real talent, and they'll be doing more zone blocking this year which should suit the more mobile young players. But will it come together? I'm not worried about the defense. Pundits are talking about their age, but they have young players there that they're starting to phase in. They'll be okay. The offense scares me a little.
Which is why I have no idea what to expect for the first time in a while. If they won the division, I won't be shocked. If they finish third, I won't be shocked.
Man that sucks for maclin in his contract year, he's been one of my favorite fantasy WR's the past few years. Pitta is whatever because I really don't like the ravens. I wonder who else is gonna go down in TC's.

Hey now. The Bengals defense should be pretty damn good this year. Best interior d-lineman in football. Fantastic ends. Sure, Malaluga is still a linebacker, but even a blind Samoan gets a sack once in a while. Plus the first round pick from last year should actually play.
Offense is going to depend a lot on how the Red Rifle plays, but he's got the weapons he needs now.
Additionally, I hope joe flacco is typically mediocre regular season joe flacco and we get to see lots of angry ravens fans this year. I still can't fathom his contract. I'd have let him walk if he demanded that much $$. Dude doesn't touch the top 5 QBs and may not be in the top 10.

Do you guys really call the Ginger Snap the Red Rifle?
I can honestly say I am hoping the Eagles finish better than 8-8. 10-6 might be pushing things but no-one knows just what Chip is really planning ... other than Mr. Kelly himself.
As for the Rams, I heard King Andy has picked you where he left off, all pass all the time.
The Bengals have talent, but the big question mark IMO is the guy behind center. Dalton is competent, but can he be great when the team needs him to be? Dalton strongly reminds me of ex-Steelers QB Neil O'Donnell...a decent enough player but not a guy who can WIN you a SB. Heck, I think Flacco's overrated, but I have to give him credit for leading his team to a SB and making big throws along the way. The Bengals should certainly be in contention for a playoff spot, but as of now they have the third-best QB in the division, and that's not something to be brushed aside.
If Kelly gets the Eagles to even 8-8, he should be in contention for coach of the year. They don't have a QB, are learning a radically different offense, are already down a starting WR, and have all kinds of question marks on defense. Kelly may get it turned around there, but I don't see a quick fix.
Andy Reid will probably have the Chiefs turned around more quickly, given that they should finally have a competent, although not great QB in Smith, and much more talent on the roster than last year's record would seem to indicate. Playoffs might not happen, but I really expect that the Chiefs will be competitive and much improved.

I'm trying to figure out what they're paying Shurmur for over there... It seems like everyone else has pieces of his job...
Sounds like you took one too many shots to the head and are suffering from some delusions of grandeur!
We'll see... amirite? They went 7-8-1 last year.
Remember, they went 2-1-1 in the NFC West.
Won and Tied against the 49ers.
Most of the crew is still here and that we've added some exciting components via Free Agency and the Draft. But the biggest benefit this year for the Rams is being the 2nd year under coach Fischer.
The whole NFC west could break out at any time IMO. Even the cards, remember what Arians did with the colts this past year? The rams have Fischer, Bradford, and a stout D. They could definately be in contention for a wild card and if they weren't in the same division as the hawks and 9'ers I'd say they were a strong cintender for a playoff spot.
It's still way to early for predictions though haha. I'll have mine probably by game 3 of the pre-season.
WOW!!! Adam Shefter is reporting the pro-bowl will be going to a fantasy style draft for the teams instead of AFC-NFC. Jerry Rice and Neon Deion will be the captains, they've also eliminated kick offs. They're doing the pickem like hockey does. Looks ill be tuning in this year to watch haha.
Agreed! Seems like they finally get how worthless the pro-bowl has been for years and are actually trying to make it something that you might actually want to watch.
It's amazing how much better every team gets in the time between the draft and the kickoff of the first regular season game.
Having said that, I do think my Steelers will be a little better than last year. Vegas seems to think so also. But injuries, etc. can turn even the most promising seasons into a train wreck. Only time will tell.

Alternatively, I didn't see much of the Rams... Did you guys send your cheerleaders and not much else?
Rams didn't game plan... at all. o.O
That's typical of Fisher.
Here's what stood out for me:
BROWNS:
-Weeden actually looks like a pretty good quarterback. I'm rooting for the guy as his rise to the NFL is awesome.
-The defense looks FAST. Wow!
-Your running game looks non-exisitent. I guess you miss TRichardon, or that the RAMS run defense is that good.
RAMS:
-Bradford looks good...really good. The 3 incompletions were catchable balls that hit the reciever's hands.
-Givens + Bradford... that'll the a common combo (Givens broke the Rookie receiver stats of 5 games of 50+ yrd receiving pass)
-Pead fumble... jeeze, a classic case of a guy with oodles of abilities that just can't get it together on the field.
-DRichardson and ZStacey looks really good running the ball.
-Punt coverage... lolwut? That should never, EVER happen in a game. o.O
-Defense seems meh in this game... probably due to zone coverages as this is pre-season. I think we only blitzed once the entire game. The Rams defense was built to blitz all the time. *shrug*

Our 2 "main" runningbacks are none-existant atm. T-Rich has a minor injury and the team already knows what he can do considering he ran as much as he did last season with injured ribs. I'm not worried about him, I'm hoping Norv taught him how to fething hit the hole and run. Otherwise we'll be stuck with side scrolling 2D Richardson again... Weeden did well, and looked a lot more confident out there. He needs to work on his fades though. His endzone passes kind of suck still.

Mmm 91 yard return I saw like 1 ram on screen the entire time
Suffice it to say, the next two preseason games will tell me more about this year's Browns. I'm just hoping Jimmy Haslem doesn't get sent to klink for frauding those companies . His 83 yr old dad would become owner of the Browns.
I like Bradford's skills, but he was stuck on such bad teams that his career was starting to go the route of David Carr or Archie Manning. The NFL is hard enough...it's crazy hard to work on your game and improve when everything's just kinda crumbling around you. It's very easy to become damaged goods in that situation, even if you had some talent...beat up from too many hits, develop bad habits, get gunshy in the pocket, etc. Bradford just needs a chance, I think.

Speaking of damaged goods, Colt McCoy was injured last night after throwing 3 for 7 with 41 yards and an interception... Hopefully this gets the Colt McCoy lovers here in Cleveland to shut up .

He's your prototypical pocket quarterback with sneaky foot speed. He just needs weapons on the filed like any other quarterback.
I don't care how good you are... but, you ain't going to be successful if you're throw balls on your back (if OL crappy) or if your recievers can't get open.

Hopefully for Rams fans Tavon Austin and Givens can get open more than Amendola sitting out injured last year
Eagles/Pats game was alright.... Philly's O line was much improved looked more like a team than last years debacle Vick had a nice series, with a couple great passes, D-Jax made a hel of a catch on the TD.
Foles was more consistant but less flashy putting together a nice drive and eating the clock.
Both were pretty much done by the 2nd quarter. Third string and wannabes for the rest of the game.
Defense is still WIP. A few highlights but getting slashed on the opening drive was too much like last year.
Brady's TD pass was just too spot on to not score, but that's Tom for ya.
Dogpile on Tebow was the highlight of the 2nd half.
FFL for those interested. Feel free to tell me what scoring and roster size and settings your like otherwise I'm gonna do qb, 2wr, 2RB, flex, TE, K, Def. and standard PPR scoring with .25-.5 PPR.

Fischer is making a stink over nothing. Bernie Kosar, for all of his alcoholism, brain damage from being hit too many times, and just a general gakky post-NFL life (wife left him and took his money, daughter is in porn, etc...) Kosar has a large amount of knowledge about football, and honestly I would respect what he says about the game over some of the national talking heads (simply because he doesn't have to cowtoe the company line). Bernie's comments in the first two quarters was spot on color commentary. He broke down the teams as they played, saw things that the average person didn't see, and talked about how bad the Rams were playing (as a color commentator should). The real issue occurred when Kellen Clemens came into the game. Had this been a real game, we would never have seen Clemens unless several acts of God happened to give him the chance to play. By the time you get to the 4th quarter, you're left with the last string players and have to keep things entertaining. So Jim Donovan, the main announcer for the Browns, had a story about Clemens' daughter being blessed/kissed by the pope. Kosar, a professed Catholic, responded in kind with a religious bit in which he said, "Bless me father for I have sinned, I have to watch him play the 4th quarter." Honestly, it's not much of an issue and never would have happened in a real game or on a national broadcast. The local NBC affiliate that runs the TV broadcast for the Browns should have gone through Donovan's story during a production meeting and then turned to Bernie and said, "What would you say to this?" And bam, problem solved.
Idk why Fischer is giving a gak. His team didn't show up and it's preseason. Honestly I think people should be making just as much of a stink over his comment about Bernie's history being well documented (alluding to the issues I said earlier).
It's a non-issue (says the guy that just wrote a large paragraph on it ).

It honestly was a little weird hearing about it on my drive into work this morning, because you only would have heard it if you were watching the Browns feed here in the Cleveland area.
Also, I don't think it's much of an issue because Kosar doesn't do the regular season games, unless something happened to Doug Dieken.

So... lemme see... Pats sign Tebow... Brady blows up his knee... Super Bowl is held in Jets stadium this year. What's the point of having a season? We know how it ends... amirite?
Jesus Christ whembly that tweet.... Please tell me he's just some shmoe with a smart phone and not someone with a good track record.

Edit:lol the ghost of Bernard pollard gets the patriots again... Apparently Adrian clayborn the DE who injured Brady's knee is Bernard pollards cousin haha.
Yah he walked off on his own in '08 too. After seeing the video and reading reports it appears there is nothing majorly wrong probably just tweaked it.
But it's still hilarious to joke about it happening on Tim Tebow's birthday and have it be Bernard pollards cousin that did it.
Man now wonder Mangini is highly regarded as a tool by every report I read. Awesome read for all the patriots, jets, and browns fans that had their stuff tainted by this dude.
I went to the Bears preseason game on Thursday night. As a season ticket holder, I'm required to buy preseason tickets too, and it's usually nice weather and the wife and I treat it like a night out, rather than anything serious. So, here's the thing about pre-season football...
It's pre-season for everyone. If you go to a pre-season game, the well-oiled machine that is a regular season game is just as rusty as the players. Odd, considering that they did it all not 8 months ago, but I guess people have short memories.
Little things are just not right. Thursday night, for example, they did the national anthem before the players were on the field. The scoreboard was wrong - not the score, but the stats on it. There was a noticeable delay between scoring, and the start of the fight song, and even then, the first time through, it wasn't accompanied by the video with the words, for those who haven't memorized them yet. (I'm fairly sure that less than 1% of the people at the game could describe the T-formation either, yet we sing about it every week - this is an historically curious relic that can be used to date when people actually wrote fight songs. Do new teams, like the Texans, even have a fight song?).
Talking about people who haven't yet memorized the words, the preseason crowd is also noticeably different than the regular season crowd. It's the game where people who don't go to football games can actually get tickets to. There are more families and seemingly more young people. They don't seem to know when to cheer (which, given that it's preseason, is minimally) and by the 3rd quarter, the actual game is pretty boring that they're looking for other ways to entertain themselves. I've never seen "the wave" during the regular season, but we waved Thursday night. Since this doesn't happen normally, I wonder what the players think to it.
Towards the end of the game, the coaches have their focus, and any seemingly rational game decisions that fans might understand are just not a factor. Thursday night, I can only imagine that they were trying to evaluate back-up back-up running backs and linemen, because they forgot that you can throw the ball. This is 2013, right? Forward passes are legal?
And, so here's the other thing I wonder about. The players on the field in the 4th quarter may be long-shots to make the team. But, they're still supposedly decent football players. They've all done four years of college ball, and the fact that they're even at an NFL camp means they were probably above average players on their college teams. So why is it that they look so inept? A couple of San Diego players dropped routine passes. I'd imagine that the Bears players would have also, had the Bears remembered that forward passes were legal. At that point in the game, it's the guys who won't make your team against the guys who won't make the other team - you'd think that might still be somewhat entertaining - but it isn't.
I went the Panthers/Bears preseason game here in Charlotte and I thought it was wonderfully entertaining. And I didn't notice any rustiness on the part of the stadium. . . they even had light shows on the neighboring Duke Energy building that would coincide with Carolina TDs.
Dustin Keller has apparently broken his ACL, MCL, and PCL as well as dislocating his knee. Considering how much Miami are airing it out this year it's really going to hurt them

Didn't you like the Bengals too? Or was it the cheerleaders?

Yeah, that's the rumor that's been going down.
And in a surprising move? Browns head coach says his starters are most likely going to play in the 4th pre-season game. After last Saturday's showing... they could use the extra practice.
That fine was BS and i hope they just took a collection at the clubhouse and paid it. They will ruin the NFL with these new no hitting rules only grab tackles legal.
Bears have a shot at playoffs, IF forte plays all year and if O-line can give cutler 5 seconds.
Also, does anyome else think coach trestman looks like leonard from big bang theory? Weird.

Briggs said he would pay for the fine, don't know how it's actually played out
And the O-Line has looked pretty good so far considering there's only 1 returning player and 2 starting rookies
And I kinda get the similarities between Jim Galecki and Trestman
Browns just cut both of their kickers, after they let Phil Dawson go this offseason... are going to have the punter do all of our kicking? (He did it against Chicago on Thursday).

Sorry about my lack of activity lately. Busy with NOVA and life in general. But I'm here and were still on track.
Dakka FFL is drafting this Friday around 10pm EST. Just Doing auto draft this time around because getting a time to live draft with everyone will be a nightmare. There are 7 spots taken so we have room for 3-5 more people if anyone is down.
Chancetragedy wrote: Haha whoops ok we need 1 more person and I'll set the league to draft Wednesday. If anyone has a friend that wants to join we need an even number.

Where's Kronk?
I asked the same thing last page I think. He's been mysteriously absent so I hope everything's ok.
Chancetragedy wrote: Was the game as bad as espn.com game cast made it seem? This looks like an ass whoopin by the donco's.
It was a great game up until the failure to throw the challenge flag, and the Broncos got a TD a play or two later. Ravens never recovered and Peyton and Co. just ran with it.
Ugh, lost one fantasy matchup already
Guy started Peyton Manning and Denariyus Thomas, so Unless Kaepernick can really rip apart GB there's no way I'm getting past that 75 point lead

Part of me hopes so, and would love the Broncos on the other side just to see the party we'd have on Superbowl night. I'm a Broncos fan, Aura follows the Seahawks.
Guys, you need to look beyond Manning at the rest of the guy's team. Peyton may be the only stud he has, and the rest will net him next to no points. If you built a strong team that hits just above average, you have the better chance of winning.

I've been busy as hell, but I just joined the league this morning. Sorry, but I've ben AWOL lately.
Can't draft this week because of Thursdays game. I can set it to draft first thing Tuesday if their are Monday night games(haven't checked the sched.). That way well be good to go for week 2 and just do 2-14 then 15/16 are playoffs.
2nd edit: FFL is set to draft so be ready to set line ups before Thursday for week 2.
Also who the heck benches Peyton manning with those receivers? Regardless of 7 TD's he was going to go for 300+ and 3+ so why bench him?
Also GO PATRIOTS get the off season fully behind us with a win already!
BREAKING NEWS: Jacksonville(FL)--The Jaguars vs Chiefs game was just delayed 15 min after Blaine Gabbert reportedly found an unknown white powdery substance on the field. Play was suspended and the police were called.
After a complete analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white substance unknown to Jaguar players was the GOAL LINE. Jacksonville had never seen such a thing before, but the game was resumed after the police decided it was harmless. The score remains 21-2, Chiefs.
That's what happens when your a team that knows how to win randomtoaster. Go pats!
What is Tampa bay's problem... They are the jets south with freeman getting stripped of captaincy and then that dude giving them field goal range with 9 seconds left on a completely worthless personal foul lol.
randomtoaster wrote: So gutted for the Bills, they came so close!
Damn I hate the Pats.
Meh... They considered "Toronto's unofficial NFL team", meaning they share the same bad luck & general crappiness of all Toronto teams.
Still, it was a good effort, especially after they were so badly dominated most of the first half.
The Pats on the other hand need to stop shooting themselves in the foot every chance they get. Against a better team, they'd have been absolutely demolished.

This would be wild. But the cards and rams have both proven they'll be good early and let the wheels come off. I have more faith in the rams and fishe than the cardinals. But with Bruce Ariens as their coach who knows what the cardinals are capable of as they certainly have talent. But remember they started 4-0 last year and finished like 6-10 so there is that.
Edit:and not a great start a pickem. I should have just played the favorites lol.

It would be nice to see but the NFC North has just as good as chance of doing this imo, and that completely discounts the Saints/Falcons (One has to finish second)

The Chiefs should've scored twice as many, but I guess they just decided to coast in the 2nd half. I thought it was hilarious that "experts" picked the Chiefs to only be a one score favorite. Everybody should've known it'd be a blowout...it's a whole different atmosphere in KC this year. I'm also feeling really good about their decision to pass on Joeckel and take Fisher instead...Joeckel had a pretty terrible showing despite being hailed as the more ready to play guy. My biggest criticism is that they didn't use the run game effectively enough. They kept throwing against a defense that was clearly more worried about stopping the pass the entire game.
I do feel bad for Gabbert. He gets way too much blame for their poor play. His receivers dropped a couple critical passes that could've made the game a lot more interesting, and his o-line is full of holes....hard to throw with a 300 lb lineman sitting on top off you all game. The Flowers int came off a blown route where Gabbert had to throw it ahead of the cut back, and the Hali pick 6 came off a blown assignment by Joeckel on another quick pass play. I think the real problem may be their ugly uniforms. If they want to win, they need to pick one color and stick with it.
Oh and after the game they cut to the very end of the Bills Pats....I kept shouting "wide right" at the tv, but to no avail. Bet the Bills would've loved to hear it for once.

Look at Staley retaliate. See how he throws his facemask into Mathews' hand. Glad he got penalized for that. Too bad there wasn't a Side Judge directly behind him to see who the problem is.
I would fully expect Clay Matthews to get a call from the Commish.
The NFL is admitting yet another mistake in the aftermath of the most emotional moment in Sunday's showdown between the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports that NFL VP of officiating Dean Blandino reviewed the fracas between the two teams following Clay Matthews' late hit, and determined that 49ers tackle Joe Staley should not have been penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. In other words, there never should have been offsetting penalties on Matthews and Staley in the first place. It should have been first-and-goal from the three-yard line.
Meh that call was botched on multiple levels. IMO staley was the instigator and deserved to be flagged there. Had he let Mathews go quickly I doubt it escalates.
And don't forget that for what was actually called the 9'ers ended up benefitting because the both fouls were dead ball fouls which should have lost the teams a down making it 4th and whatever instead of replaying 3rd down which led to a 9'ers TD.

Did you not see that the nfl said staley should not of been flagged and it should of been on Matthews x2?
Yah I saw it and was responding saying I disagree! It's all good though, it didn't cost anyone a game like the simultaneous catch last year thank goodness.
And does Philly look that good or is Washington playing like crap? I'm at work ;(
I'm okay with this, as Vincent Brown would have cost me the first week of my Fantasy league
Also I can't believe it, but I'm going with Terrelle Pryor over Matt Ryan, but only because Pryor is playing Jacksonville, and Ryan has actual competition in the Rams
I know, but I feel like Ryan is going to have issues with the Pass Rush that the Rams brought against the Cardinals on Sunday. Compare that to ANYONE vs Jacksonville... Not to mention that Terrelle Pryor had a better game as an individual player in his team's loss to Indy than Matt Ryan did with his team's loss to New Orleans.
Roddy White is also hurt, so that doesn't help anyone.
As far as Clay... Suspended? Come on. He's not even going to get fined for that. Nor should he be. That kinda namby pampy posturing goes on in every NFL game.

Did you not see Frank Alexander on the Panthers throw two punches "slaps" like Matthews and he got ejected from the game.
And that's without the roid missile cheap shot to kaepernick.
Matthews is as dirty as SUH
Speaking of Suh
100k big boy, that's a lot of five dollar foot-longs.
Lol to even put Mathews in the same breath as Suh in the cheapness department is a joke. Suh is almost as dirty as richie incognito who IMO is the dirtiest player in football.

Oh yah incognito has a laundry list of stuff he's somehow got away with. Like trying to bite off a D-linemans fingers, putting someone in a knee bar, trying to twist feet/ankles in piles. But at least he knows he's a douche, proven by the fact when that dude took his helmet and swung it at Ritchie's face. after the game ritchie goes "yah that's football, I'm no saint" which is understatement of the century ;p
Jets have 18 players listed as probable for tomorrow nights game vs the Pats. Thank you sexy rexy for out thinking yourself already. Should be a hard fought but comfortable win for the mighty mighty patriots.
Well that game was an absolute stinker last night...
The Pats offense needs to learn how to actually catch passes before they send Brady's blood pressure up to around the moon or even out all the way to Mars!
Looking forwards to the Manning Bowl this Sunday though! Should be an epic game if the Giants rushers can learn how to hold on the ball instead of fumbling it...
Hehe stinker may even be an understatement ;p. man I knew it was gonna be rough start to the season. But this is almost too much. Luckily I'm not a new patriots can and don't think the last 5 year were always the norm. This team is gonna win ugly but they're gonna find ways to win. I remember the 90's patriots and early 2000's. and this was par for the course every game.
All I have to say about the patriots right now is TOP 10 DEFENSE!!!! And I'm convinced its going to stay that way all year. 15.5 ppg and a bunch of sacks is what were in for, what a role reversal I love it.
Someone's bitter eh ;p Did you start him in a FFL? Dude they're rookies and have played 2 games in the NFL. Lets see where he's at come week 10 when games really start to matter. I can't help but grudgingly agree that ATM he does suck although I think if that pass he caught wasn't ruled not a TD it'd be a different story. it's just early and I don't believe he will suck for much longer.

Haha I started him in my other league as well ;p. but I also started NE defense so I'll take the 11.5 average score haha. But yah he's defo getting benched for a while.

Also as a hater of Brandon merriweather. I'm so glad to see him knock himself out after all the helmet to helmet spear attempts he's committed.
I wasn't a hater before yesterday, but I'm now hoping that moron gets fined and suspended.
That is, if he ever gets to play again after giving himself a concussion. No room for that anymore. He totally speared with his helmet both times on the RBs.
In fact, after injuring the first GB running back by spearing, he shouldn't be allowed back until that other guy gets to play again. That should be the rule for anyone that hurts someone with a dirty play. IMHO, YMMV, etc.
Yah he's been doing that since he came into the league with NE. He did it to Dennis pitta 2-3 years ago and was fined for it. I hated it when he was here in NE and I hate it more now that he's somewhere else ;(

While the Browns are setting Hoyer up for the qb position on Sunday, Trent Richardson will not be wearing the orange and brown. Browns just traded him to the Indianapolis colts for their first round pick.

I'm trying to figure out what benefits we had in the first place? Trent Richardson is garbage, he's a terrible runner that doesn't know how to hit the hole, he thinks that staying upright longer means he's doing a good job at his position, and oh right, HE DOESN'T MOVE THE BALL FORWARD. I'm glad to be rid of Mr. 3.4 yards a carry.

Bobby Rainey, who I have no idea how good he is, but assuming he knows his job is to go forward, he can't be worse than Trent.

Clowney?
And there are two trains of thought in the Cleveland Sports Scene:
1) The Browns front office is intentionally gakking on this season to get a better draft pick in the first round, a draft in which they already get a few nice picks due to missing out on some players this year.
2) The front office is actually attempting to win by removing players that aren't producing. Greg Little, the guy who can't catch a ball to save his life, was benched this week as a starting receiver. If the coaching staff is serious, they should make him inactive this week.

2) There are 4 QBs that are being talked about by Cleveland sports talk radio ----- Teddy Bridgewater (Louisville) ----- Tahj Boyd (Clemson) ----- Brett Hundley (UCLA) - Mike Lombardi visited UCLA this week ----- Johnny Football (Texas A&M) - Most talking heads agree that Manziel is good at the College level, but he doesn't have it for the NFL
Edit: Redbeard, Johnny Football could declare himself for the draft. The restriction is that he must be 3 years removed from high school. Johnny is currently 20 (turns 21) in December. So it's been 3 years since his class left high school. He was redshirted during the 2011 season.

So.. on the FFL front... They adjusted Mike Vick's stats from last week, meaning that Kronk only won by 0.96 points.... Less than one point. One less Sack or one more reception.....
So what do you guys think? Is KC for real this year? I want to believe because I really have some sentiment for them. But they've let me down so hard the last few years lol.
Andy Reid is a helluva coach, and Alex Smith is a competent QB. They've already eclipsed the win total from last year, so I think, at the worst, they're looking at 8 wins.
The factory of sadness in Cleveland is alive and well on my FB page with all my Cleveland fiends. I don't know how much bigger they could have taken a gak on the season. I mean, I guess they could be tanking, but in game 2?? And for only a first round pick, which is going to be a late pick anyway ? Amazing. gak, the Bengals got a 1st and 3rd rounder for friggin Carson Palmer 3 years ago.
As to Menziel.... Unless josh McRoberts is drafting, isn't going to go in the first round. Boyd and Bridgewater will certainly go before him, and that kid out of Flordia State that's throwing like, 90% is catching a lot of eyes too. Manziel is short (which Russel Wilson and Drew Brees have proven doesn't have to be a problem) but he's not nearly as intelligent or as food a leader as those two.
I dunno, one of the better analysts at espn was suggesting that the Browns got the better end of the deal and that if they were going to trade him (because they know something about his production that maybe the rest of us don't), this was the right time to do it, when they could get the most value for it, and before that weakness became apparent.
Trent Richardson has SERIOUS flaws as a running back and the Browns got the better end of that deal.
The thing is you will almost see an immediate improvement in Trent's stats in Indy because he'll fit in better with their down range passing scheme, as people will be attempting to defend their wide receivers, Trent will most likely be getting sweeps and short slants into that open ground which will likely end up giving him 6 yards a catch.
Also Browns signed Willis McGahee yesterday, Brandon Weeden won't need surgery on his thumb, so he might be back for week 4.
McGahee seems a bit worn down. He might look good for a few games as his legs will be relatively fresher than those who went through camp and the preseason, but give him 4 games and I don't think he'll look too good.
As for the signing bonus thing - yeah, that hurts them, but not as much as you think. They take a lot of the cap hit this year, and it's off the books at the end of next year. I don't think actual cash is nearly the issue for NFL teams as cap cash, and this year's roster is fairly set, so losing cap space this year is not a factor.

Couldn't agree more about Barnwell. He's thoughtful and fantastic. I still have trouble believing the Browns got the better end of this deal. Lets assume that Richardson was vastly overdrafted by the Browns (he was IMO) and let's assume his real value is as, say, a 15-20th pick. That falls around in line with where the Colts pick will be, maybe a bit later. So from that end, it isn't terrible. But we've gotta look at two things:
1 - Browns fans put up with like, anything, and they feel completely gak on by this trade. Sure, there's a lot of rationalizing going on right now, but trading Richardson AND starting your 3rd String QB over your purported 2nd stringer is like gettin slapped with a wet surrender towel right in the nuts. Or at least that's how it sounds on FB. I think the McGahee signing could help alieviate that a bit, but if Richardson had trouble running in Cleveland, I can't imagine Willis (whom I like very much) is going to do much better.
2 - The Bengals got a 1st and 3rd rounder from Oakland for Carson Palmer, a wobbly, hobbly QB that, for all intents and purposes, is washed up. Sure, he can throw for 300 in the West Coast, but during that 300 you're almost guranteed to get 2-4 receptions to the other team (re: interceptions). This makes that trade look REAAAAAAALLLLY bad, as Richardson SHOULD HAVE warranted at least another mid to late round pick.
@Alf - I don't watch as much Browns football as you do, I'm sure, but what are Richardson's "serious flaws." He hasn't proven to be 'injury prone"-- he had one nagging injury and still rushed for 1000 yards...in CLEVELAND! He's big, he's fast, and he can catch the ball out of the backfield. He's a bit stiff as a runner, but behind a decent offensive line (Which indy has) and with a good passing game (which indy has) what's to prevent him from being an 11 TD guy with 4 ypc?

Colts are predicted to do poorly this year and as such get the 6th or 7th pick. I agree that 15 to 20 is probably where they'll end up, but 60% of the time they're projected to be like 5-11.

Actually the only Browns fans I see outraged are those that feel they know a lot more about football than they do. I feel fairly competent with my football knowledge, and I feel like the Browns made out like a bandit. Currently we have like 11 picks in the 2014 draft. What will most likely happen is that we will combine this pick and our first round pick to get the first overall pick and get the QB we want/need (assuming we don't already have it ). The decision to take Hoyer over Campbell was in my opinion not a sign of the front office taking a crap on the season, but basically saying, "Honestly our starting quarterback doesn't look all that great anyways, so it doesn't matter who's taking the snaps." But with that being said, Campbell barely sniffed the field during the pre-season, Hoyer played well during the Bears game, and at the same time, Campbell did terribly against the Ravens last Sunday. To me, it truly doesn't matter who is QB, as long as they can move down the field and generate points.

Trent is stocky like a DnD dwarf, but he's not naturally stocky. His parents aren't built like that, so for Trent to be the wall of muscle he is, he's putting 'unnecessary' strain on his frame to achieve the build that he has achieved. Honestly he looks more like a Space Marine than a running back (just shorter ). He's fast and he can catch, which situated him better last year in our 'west coast' offense. Those short, quick passes allowed Trent to excel, which I attribute to his 11 TDs but his less than 1000 rushing yards, in this 'vertical passing scheme' an efficient runner that can earn 4 yards per carry (though I'd rather have 5 yards I know that's wishful thinking) means that even if we focus on passing defenses have to be wary of the run because it's still a threat. Trent usually starts off 'explosively' gaining 8 to 12 yards on a run, and then it drops to 2 yards, 2 yards, 2 yards, etc... Once the run gets shut down the Browns office collapses because they know that we can't pass but yet we have to pass. Trent also has the penchant for not hitting the hole. The offensive line can open up a hole 5 miles wide and Trent will still run towards the sidelines and attempt to sweep around the side, which by the time he gets to the line of scrimmage half the defense is already on him. Most of us know that the SEC is dominant in college football with Alabama generally up near the top. Being an alum of 'bama, one would think that Trent would be fantastic in the NFL. Sadly there are two games against LSU that Trent Richardson looked like garbage, and those in my mind are the most telling games and how he would perform in the NFL. So to boil it all back down here is why I don't think Trent Richardson is a good running back:
1) Built like a mack truck but not on a mack truck frame (stocky but not naturally stocky)
2) Doesn't hit the hole, likes to sweep to the sides
3) Has difficulty against decent defenses (visible against the LSU game)
I think Trent will benefit greatly from better coaching and an actual passing game with the colts. I've decided my official stance is this was a good trade for both sides. I won't say great because I think the browns could have gotten more out of it but oh we'll.
1 - Browns fans put up with like, anything, and they feel completely gak on by this trade.
Oh waaaah, someone gak on the Browns fans. Like that hasn't been happening for the last few decades.
2 - The Bengals got a 1st and 3rd rounder from Oakland for Carson Palmer, a wobbly, hobbly QB that, for all intents and purposes, is washed up. Hey, if you want to compare all trades to all prior trades, then these are all bad, because none of them come close to what the Cowboys got from the Vikings for Hershel Walker. The Raiders overpaying the Bengals for crap talent is a completely separate event than this trade, and has no impact on the valuation either way.

This is part of the reason why I'm not outraged by the trade. If it turns out to be gak then it's business as usual. If it turns out to be good, well then... go Banner!
@Alf - Do you really think it's worth it for the Browns to package picks to get #1? I mean, I think we all agree that the Browns need a franchise QB. But do they need to be at #1? Bridgewater and Boyd are, IMO, both franchise QBs. Further, a lot of people think that Hundley from UCLA could be a franchise-type QB but be available later in the draft. And then there's Manziel, the wild card, who will most certainly be available during the late 1st/2nd round.

Personally? I don't think it's worth it, but it really depends on who Jacksonville and Cleveland are looking at. If Hundley is the Browns choice, I don't think he's going in the first two or three picks and they should be okay if it's Bridgewater or Boyd they will probably do what needs to be done to ensure they get what they need. Like little known fact, the Rams almost had the 6th pick in the 2013 draft but the deal would only have gone through if Barkevious wasn't available at 6. So the Browns may be willing to trade away first round picks to get #1, we still have like what? 8 months until the draft? A lot can change.
My prediction is Browns take a QB in the first round and a running back in the second.
That Philly game was brutal to watch. And did bad things to my FFL.
6 turnovers, most leading to points.... not a winning strat. Ball security is a must for them going into next game, @ Denver.
No excuses in any of that, though.
Guess Chip isn't all that..... maybe not even a bag of chips.

Well, their next 5 games are: Giants, at Titans, Raiders, Texans, Browns. So that's four home games, and you'd fancy them to win at least 2 of them. If they can go 3-2 or 4-1 over that period, they'd be sitting pretty at 6-2 or 7-1. The Texans game will be the hardest of those five, and they'll be playing Denver twice before the end of the season too. All told I don't think a 10-6 finish will be unrealistic, but as the Broncos are clearly going to run away with the division, will 10-6 be enough for a wildcard?

You're severely discounting the division games mate. It really doesnt matter how bad the Raiders/Chargers are, they show up for games against KC.

It is rather interesting how those teams "show up" for the divisional games. If only they could get as pumped for even 1/2 the other games they just might make the playoffs. Weird.
And speaking of FFL teams...yeah...I was certainly expecting more from mine :p
Hmmm... I think next week I am gonna check Mean Machine's injury report before making my picks for Pick 'Em.
Dude your team is injury prone. And you got burned on Davis.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also... The FAMU (Lost 76-0 vs Ohio St) and FIU (Lost 72-0 vs Louisville) games were not as embarrassing as the Eagles performance on Thursday.
