Post by: Warboss_Waaazag

At some point in time I started collecting Orks. At first I only built very few. I was under some sort of delusion that I had too many to build, that I would never finish. For a very long time I played a Speed Freek army because I couldn't muster more than a few units of boyz and some poorly scaled trukks. 4th edition came out and I got tired of losing because my army was not up to spec. I sat down and started, slowly, to build more Orks. 5th edition came out. I kept building. 6th edition came out...I never played a 5th edition game. I just kept building Orks. I started buying more and hording bitz and gubbins. Folk gave me more and my collection of built and not-yet-built grew and grew. Then I took a long break and assessed what I had yet left to build. I actually took a moment (or many, as it turned out), to assess what I had accumulated. What I found staggered me.

I have built more than 300 Ork infantry. A half dozen vehicles. But I still have more. So, so many more. Hundreds, in fact. Every day I build more Orks. Every day my horde increases in size. One day I may even finish, but to be honest, I hope I never do. The Waaaagh! is unstoppable. The Waaaagh! is KAN'T stoppable. It will never end.

Here I will show you what I have been doing. You will witness it grow and it will. Be. GLORIOUS.

My 'ard boyz started in my original paint scheme, which was a kind of red pajama. I used this scheme because it was easy and quick. But at the time I also played Dark Angels and after painting an entire army Dark Green and red with some metal highlights, I got really bored with the idea of painting ANOTHER army that was basically Dark Green and red with some metal highlights. So I chose a more obnoxious paint scheme and opted for Yellow and Blue with some Black...and metal highlights. This is much more pleasing to my animal brain. I have painted a whole TWO - yep, just 2 freaking 'ard boyz - in this new scheme, but everyone starts somewhere, usually at the beginning.

'Ard Boyz

This is an 'ard boy who is actually a REALLY old skool meganob. Updated with some new skool arms he looks much better as an 'ard boy if you ask me.

Speaking of Old Skool:

While a lot of these first few posts will be just picture dump of things I've made so far, I encourage anyone interested to make requests or suggestions about what they'd like to see me build or finish. I'll use this thread to track any builds I make and post progress as I go. You've seen my Deff Dred, so you can have an idea of what I'm capable and I'm always interested in building new and more things.

At the moment I have a personal (i.e. to myself) to build a total of 45 lootas. I think I have 9 made so far. And I also want to finish my Kanz and build at least 9 meks with kustom mega blastas. But if you have a suggestion, please don't hesitate to put it here. I'm known to work on many projects simultaneously. It's unlikely that I'd become overwhelmed.

Nobz galore. More nobz than I can ever really field, but I want to have every option possible.

Big Choppas

Power Klawz

Kombi-weapons

More Snakebite Nobz

Plain old Nobz

My Current Big Mek (again, old paint job needs repainting, but what in my army doesn't at this point? 2 'Ard boyz, that's what)

Waaazag Himself (at least in his current iteration)

You said it yourself: Glorious

The Snakebite nobz, wow... the WHFB Orcs' armors are brutal and look so damn good, nice thought about using them for the "primitive" Klan.

And I wish to see more Killa Kan glory! With so many Orks you are bound to have interesting Killa Kans!

As promised, more orks:

MEGANOBZ!!!! (I wanted my meganobz to look a tiny bit unique without putting too much work into a scratchbuild, so I just added some shoulder pads to their pre-existing armor. Honestly, the shoulders are practically made for the extra plates)

Stikkbomma Trukkboyz

Shoota boyz unit 1 (the astute will notice that I have only 29 boyz in this unit. I need to make one more to fill it out. Most folk probably won't take the time to count each boy, so no worries if you don't catch that tiny detail) I cut the spike off the top of all the helmets with fur on them. There's one thing I do every game and that's scrape my arm or hand on something pointy on the table. Usually it's the terrain. I figured I'd remove an avenue of attack and save my flesh another red and stingy line.

These boyz also represent my most painted orks of any unit. Hooray!

Probably some of my most minutely converted as well.

When I saw the movie "Saving Private Ryan" I had to build an ork with a BAR. It's just so LOUD.

Shoota boyz unit 2 Distinguished by their not having helmets on.

Look! More painted guys!

"Hang on you gits, I'm reloadin'..."

I have to bore out the barrels of most of the gunz in my army, but aside from that, these boyz is done.

On to vehicles.

My first trukk I never bothered to assemble the trukk kit. I bought one and immediately chopped it up for parts. Then I went to the warstore and bought a half dozen chassis and wheels. I will never assemble the trukk model as is. I think that kit is a travesty - now every ork player in the world has the same trukks. What ever happened to the madcap, ramshackle uniqueness of this army? The trukk kit made us all lazy. Anyway, rant over. This trukk is for my gangsta boyz. These are the semi-chronological WIP shots.

And the gunner (who has a peg leg)

PIP

I used the "hairspray" method on this trukk (meaning I painted it black, then brown, then splotched it with various orange and brown "rust colors", then sealed it with Satin sealer - the standard GW sealer - then sprayed it with hairspray, then airbrushed it with iyanden darksun, then dipped my paintbrush in warm water and rubbed the yellow paint off the model to create a weathered look. My reaction to this style of painting and weathering is "meh". Others might like it more.

Here it is finished. I probably need to do some more highlighting to change up the coloration, but it's playable as is.

Trukk 2 I've started on a second trukk for my stikkbomma boyz. This is very WIP, but I've since done more work than these pictures show. Updates later.

Detail of one of the roadwheels.

I cut rivets off of everything and re-purpose them as details on all my builds. I have a tiny jar with hundreds of them sitting on my work table.

Battlewagon turret WIP

Same deal with the turret, hairspray-method-wise. I think this came out better, especially on the barrel of the kannon.

And, finally, PIP of a Looted Wagon. It isn't armed with much. Just a rokkit.

I much prefer to build vehicles than boyz, but both need doing if I'm to have an army, so I plug away. Feedback always welcome. I'll try to put more stuff up tomorrow.

My wife calls this looted wagon my "Keebler Tank". At one time this was a "looted leman russ", but then the new codex came out and did away with that conceot. Some old ork players really detested the idea that their 14 frontal armor tank got reduced to an 11, and fielded looted vehicles as battlewagons instead. I think this adherence to old ideas is foolish. My looted wagon is still a comical and terrifying vehicle for my opposition and it costs about the same points wise. Making battlewagons a different option on my lists means I have something new to model.

Posting pictures with my phone is challenging. I'll put up more pics later.

As promised, here's more photos of my "Keebler Tank"

Some years ago this tank took a nose dive off my work bench and a few pieces flew off into the darkness, never to be found again. The barrel split in the front and one of the tabs chipped off the turret ring. For whatever reason I never repaired it or finished painting it. Now's my chance, no?

Feedback or questions always welcome. Thanks for looking!

These are some work in progress pictures of my looted wagon and my Zzap trukk. Finished pics of my Zzap trukk can be found here.

And also some PIP shots showing the layers from primed to base coat to rust and weathering effects to detailing. Essentially, I primed them black, then base coated them with Scorched brown (I don't know the current color equivalent), drybrushed them first with Tin Bitz (a dark bronze metallic color), then drybrushed them with boltgun metal (a dark silver metallic color), then washed them with a thinned down Scaly Green (a dark sea-green color). Then I layered on Bubonic Brown (which is probably Dark Sun or Iyanden now, but I'm not really certain and don't feel like double checking) and Royal Blue. Then progressively lighter shades of blue and yellow (which were applied intentionally too thin to create a washed out and weathered look). I never got around to painting the roof of my "Keebler Tank", but the Zzap Trukk has since been finished.

Thanks for looking! Feedback always welcome.

I recently inherited a couple of Ultras vehicles which I will be converting to looted wagons. Your stuff is inspiring.

your story sounds like me. long time ago i bought 1, count them 1, box of ork boyz to use in a GorkaMorka game, and kitbashed their trukk. it was never supposed to go any further than that, and yet now today i have around 8500 pts of Orks. I gained some more last weekend, visiting a friend of mine he tossed me four old metal orks, nine of the old GorkaMorka orks, a unfinished warboss and runtherd two old school drivers and an old school gunner. I swear every time i turn out the lights and go to bed, my warboss tears through the boyz to make them spore up more boyz, and the meks build more crap to move those boyz around in.

anyways, as to the stuff you posted, Love the trukk, and the saturn 5 storm boy. Battlewagon looks like it's going to be an interesting build, i'll be here watching and commenting again at some point, keep up the good WAAAAAGH!!

Posting from a phone makes me a little inept at making things like effective links, but...

@Squidbot: the trukk chassis in the background actually became my first finished trukk (the one I posted in my finished ork thread). I haven't workes on my wagons for ages. I'm glad to hear you'll be putting those marine wagons to proppa use!

@SebastianSynn: yes, your story is much like mine. And I completely agree, the boys are spawning at night and collecting skrap when I'm not looking. Everytime I look around I'm floored by how much more I have left. It just never ends! I've become the "unwanted ork models black hole". Friends just give me stuff; like they're as committed to watching my horde grow as I am.

Thanks again for the feedback, Boyz! It really means a lot to me.

Slowly, ever so slowly, I'm making progress on my orks.

Legs and legs and legs:

These still need more flash cleaned off 'em before they get glued to bases:

And these are even more legs...and bodies. So many orks, so boring cleaning the flash off all these legs:

Waaazag da Kan't stoppable's Ork-In-Progress thread (pic HEAVY) @ 2014/01/27 00:47:19

Post by: Warboss_Waaazag

Legs get bodies:

Some bodies get arms, like these new Tankbustas:

This shoulder pad is here because I had to fiddle the weapon arm on. I have way more rokkit arms that connecting holdy arms, so I often improvise with other arms.

I really detest the metal tankbusta models and refuse to use them in any significant way. So I convert the plastic models and the rokkit boyz in any way I can, usually with just some minor weapon or rokkit swaps like with these boys.

Thanks for looking! Comments always welcome.

Progress!

Burnaboyz (with smurf hats)!

I drilled out some button holes for this guy's hat, because the head was already glued on and the burna arms didn't fit right with the long hat-flaps. I trimmed them down, but they looked weird so I decided to make them look like they might button to something this ork ain't currently wearing. It worked in my head, I don't know about execution.

New Tank bustaboyz! (with modified rokkity-gunz)

More orks. First up, some Kommandos.

The Nob:

His boyz:

I put together the boy on the left before I remembered that I was going to make all my kommandos carry knives. Oh well, this one guy is carrying a boffer. What evs.

Some meks. First guy up doesn't have a lot of conversion work except that I had to sahve his kustom mega blasta down a bit in order to fit his head on.

For the second mek I wanted to use a different head (I can't remember if I got this head from Spellcrow or Kromlech. anyway, both companies are great for 3rd party ork parts):

But to use this head I had to heavily modify his arms to make the gun fit right. (sorry for the blur, my camera had trouble focusing on what I wanted even with being on the Macro setting)

(I'll have more pics of this gun conversion up tomorrow)

Here's his backpack, too:

That's yesterday's work. Thanks for looking and have a great day! Cheers.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys!

Here's another update.

I made some burnas for my kommandos. The heads come from GW, Spellcrow, and Kromlech. Very fine products those.

And Meks 4 and 5 (of 9 I intend to make in total). Not huge conversions, at least on the first one, but I repositioned the kustom mega blasta arm and added a handle for the second one. Also, a different backpack.

this is my favorite and most ridiculous sword:

A few close ups of the arm join. There's the tiniest, slightest of gaps created by the length of the pin I used, but once the paint goes on the model it won't be noticeable.

And a close up of the handle on the gun.

Mek buddies together.

There's also ridiculously minute modifications on all the kustom mega blastas, because uniformity is for suckahs!

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Thanks, Gojira4444! A lot time is going into drilling out the barrels of all the guns on all the boys. I also realized that I've never gotten a picture of all my boys in one place. I don’t know if I have a table large enough. I'm also starting to think I might want to paint a unit to break up the monotony of building them. Who knows. At any rate I probably won't be done until 7th edition anyway.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Update! I had to do some repairs to one of my lootas, his arm fell off. So I glued it back on.

On to more exciting things. I started slapping together some grots. Even though these gits are easy to assemble, all I've discovered about grots is that assembling grots is really boring. Some of these buggers are metal snotlings from the fantasy line, a couple are 2nd edition plastic, at least 2 are converted from fantasy goblins, and the rest are just stock models. That's probably what makes them so boring to build - I feel like I'm wasting time building models that will die whenever an enemy looks at them. Anyway, grots :

More work done. I made a bunch more Kommandos. I used some 3rd party ork bodies for these kommandos. I can't remember if they are Kromlech, Spellcrow, or Puppetswar products, but they're called "fatty bodies". I think "shirtless bodies" would be more appropriate, but I'm not in charge of naming products that I buy. Anyway, the bodies don't mesh perfectly with the GW arms, so I hid most of the joins with shoulder plates (and iron gobs on one model because they within reach and I was too lazy to going searching through my bits for more shoulder pads).
Here are the boys all together:

And here individually:

Axe-silencer, the quiet killer.

Illustrating the nakedness of the body and those plucky shoulder pads:

These Kromlech heads have a raised eagle icon on the helmet that I have to painstakingly shave off with my exacto every time.

I think this head is from Spellcrow. All my Kommandos get "gasmask" or "rebreather" or "face-covered-up" heads, if you haven't noticed the trend yet.

Iron gob shoulder pads:

I shave off the rivets from all my weapons for use later on my vehicles, and given my neuropathic need to have hundreds of individual orks, I modified this boy's choppa.

Same with this boy's choppa:

More shoulder pads.

And face coverings:

And where did this ork get a belly button from? Orks are spawned from mushrooms! So I choose to believe this is an old bullet scar...

And here's what they look like without shoulder pads (I got lazy with the last boy)

And here's the last boy, who is just a relatively regular build with a rokkit launcher. I didn't bother with a blast plate because he's wearing a mask. He'll be fine, it's just rokkit back blast. I call this boy "Krokkit". He even has a "bayonet".

Here's Krokkit's bayonet:

More stuff up tomorrow. Thanks for looking!

And now the last of my meks. Phew! Finally! Again, ridiculously minute conversion work done on all of them.

I've been meaning to do a conversion like this on one of the guns for the longest time. Glad I finally did.

The 4 lads together:

Also, another new loota. Nothing fancy, just a head swap, really.

I built some more lootas, and started on a new freebooter shoota mob. I'll get more photos up in the next few days. Thanks for looking! Cheers!

Burna Boyz unit 1. Da Smurfs. (the idea with these units is to either take a looted wagon with Skorcha or to swap out a unit of trukk boyz and stick them in the trukk in turn one. Hence the reason these units are only 12, 9, and 10 models...although I do intend to make enough models to potentially field them as full units of 15 each)

Second unit, Da Brutes (there ain't much special about these'n)

And finally Da Masks (the most complete unit)

Comparing the flame thrower ends (to show off my scraping plastic away from a model to get rid of unwanted detail skills)

Thanks for looking! C&C always welcome. It's been raining here in New York, but I hope to get these boys out to prime in the next couple of days. Then, PAINTING! Huzzah!

Now thats alot of burnaz! Looking good man, love seeing people put a few personal touches on their models, and i have always really liked the smurf hat when a whole unit is wearing them.

Today I found a bunch of bodies I thought I had lost and I have stretch of time that should let me finish a ton of models. I hope to get my Savage Sluggas done, maybe my Piratey Shootas, and a bunch more Burnas. We'll see. I want to get back to my vehicles, namely the buggies I barely started about a year ago. Hmmm. Updates soon.

Went back to working on my warbuggy. Here's some work in progress shots. And because I am lazy, too, also a shot of how much work I had had completed. Nearly 9 months ago, this is where I left off:

I stared at that frame and thought, "I wonder what it would look like with front wheels?" I made a mock up.

And then just started building because there was really no reason to wait.

Yes, I know the front axle is crooked. I don't care. It's a 30 point vehicle with armor 10. It works because my orks believe in it. And it will die because space marines punch it.

Thanks for looking. C&C always welcome.

Thanks to Dr H for making this update possible.

I assembled "Joe typical" ork driver (of which I have like a dozen) and modified the base where the pedals go before test fitting him to the chassis.

You'll also notice the blue marker I used to indicate where the peg holes needed to be drilled on the chassis.

And here's my "action shots" of me using my "hand drill" to drill the holes for the pins.

Using my "hand drill is really quite painful. I'm hoping I develop a callous on my index finger kinda soon. Here are the pins themselves. These actually turned out to be more of a hinderance than a help and I had to clip them down kinda far.

Using strips of styrene, plastic lolipop straws, and glue I eventually glued the driver in place in a satisfying way (i.e. covered up my mistakes).

I went to a local shop where I get a lot of my supplies (they sell all kinds of model kits, model railroad accessories, and RC stuff, plus styrene, detail bits, books, etc) and found this little gem for super cheap.

On a whim I built the engine which, by the way, the picture on the cover, the pictures in the instructions, and the actual engine itself were all different.

And then attempted to test fit the engine to the buggy.

Turns out it was way too big for this build. I'll save it for another project. Oh well. The black backing plate behind the driver is actually the chassis of the Zinger Super Dune, suitably chopped down and cleaned up (the model parts had a LOT of flash). Then I glued the driver's arms on and built a steering column. The black part of the column is actually a bit of sprue from the Zinger kit.

This picture illustrates how misaligned everything seems to be. The driver I guess is made to be off center because he's the Trukk driver?

Then I decided to make up some details and threw this together on the bottom.

And that's what I got so far. I'm hoping to cover up the sides of the driver with plating or some such and now I have to figure out what to do with the front. I'm thinking I should put the engine on the back, behind the driver and then put a platform on top of that with a gunner. Thoughts?

Anyway, thanks for looking. C&C always welcome. Have a great day!

Number one get a pin vice man!!!!

Number two....Brilliant work. Driver looks brilliant. Whole thing looks great. Engines are never too big BTW, stick it on behind the driver it will be fine. Mount a grot with a silly huge gun on the front and your a winner.

Excellent work, all round. Will you use the fenders from the buggy kit on it or leave it exposed?

I have a pin vice. I'm just too lazy to keep changing out the bits. Doing it by hand is less time consuming. I intend to use the super sized engine on a different build. I'll scratch build this buggy's engine. No big deal. I was thinking of making fenders for this buggy and using the sloping hood from the super dune in some capacity. I need practice with making rounded parts.

I hadn't thought of that. That's a good point. But couldn't one put a screen or something on it? I guess air scoops and sand only work with orks.

Are you going to use the body of kit?

Maybe? But the body is really small by comparison to the overlarge engine. Small as the sitting driver small. Ridiculously small. Practically unusable for anything other than the kit itself. The kit doesn’t even have a scale. It's intended for beginners and doesn’t bother with useless things like proper instructions, realism, or properly fitting parts.

Prime black, base coat dark green, block highlight medium green, highlight light green, green inkwash, light green/bone mix extreme highlight. Sometimes I forgo the extreme highlight, but I also always work in batches of 10 or more boys and assembly line them.

Thanks for your feedback, guys! Here's more photos of my newest stormboyz. For the first one I had ran out of stormboy rokkit packs because I think I used it to make a unique rokkit launcher for my tankbustas. So I had to convert one using spare bits from a stompa (that I bought essentially for parts) and other odds and ends (the angled claws of a boarding plank, a spare choppa, a flashgits glyph plate, and some thin plasticard). Then I had glued the head on at an angle and couldn't find an arm with a pistol that fit the pose I wanted, so I converted that out of a chimera lasgun ball mount, 2 wheel caps from the old biker models, and a turret from a forgeworld battlefleet gothic orbital defense, plus a spare slugga). And his chainsword arm is a hand swap with a different arm, because I have a whole unit of stormboyz whose identifying characteristic is that they each have a chainsword and there's only so much variety you can get with the same arm.

Each of these 3 stormboyz have at least 1 hand swap conversion, either on their slugga arm or their chainsword arm.

Close up of the cybork arm/hand:

Also, here are 3 Nobz WIP. The pilot-y head came from Kromlech as a free sample tossed in with some ork pirate heads I ordered about a year ago. The nob with the flashgit dakka glyph and face mask in the middle is destined to be my next and last kommando nob, while the other two have not yet earned a specific unit assignment as of yet.

Thanks for looking!

A million years later, I finally update this blog with my new WIP stormboy nob. Pinning the chain fingers.

The "pin"

One end is my glue cleaning "tool" and this end is the end I keep trimming off my pins from:

The pin in place on the klaw

The drilled out finger:

Test fitting the chain finger always reveals miniscule gaps:

Once trimmed (by like .1 millimeter), the fingers are glued into place, one at a time:

I also figured that with 2 chainsword fingers, the "thumb" of the klaw would be pretty beaten up:

I also took the opportunity to put my army's personal glyph in place of the usual stormboy nob belly plate:

And the model thus far (one can never have too much chainsawing):

More soon. Thanks for looking! Feedback always welcome.

I don't know if I ever comprehensively posted pictures of my freeboota shoota mob in progress, but here are some shots:

Also, this is a random stormboy with bioniks I made recently:

And, finally, my nob "sawboss". I might tear this head off and replace it with the circular saw "mohawk" nob head, but that depends on the level of pain in the ass-ed-ness that entails. I added some details to the chainklaw and tricked out his rokkit pack. Now all I have to do is find appropriate buzzsaws for his knees.

So, what's the consensus? Should I pop off this head and replace it with a saw-blade-mohawk head or leave this head on and use the saw-blade-mohawk-head idea on another model? I'll go with the majority idea. Thanks for looking!

I did some work on more stormboyz. And by work I mean I bought a whole bunch more and barely made a dent in their construction. But, with my tools o' the trade close at hand on my thigh:

I set to work compiling my new hordes:

I have 2 units to make. Well, one to finish and one to make more or less from scratch. The one I have to finish has a theme of "weird" (hence the boy with harpoon arm above), but the other mob has a theme of skulls on chest plates. So, I am left with a lot of very similar chest pieces for the remainder of my other mob. I think there is 8 more boys to build to bring the total mob size up to 30. So I set about making the plates slightly different by carving off the circular bit with the lightning dag on it:

As you can see I've already selected the glyph plate that will replace it (it's from the flashgitz sprue with the extra detail on the back shaved off):

A drop of glue and viola!

As for the other mob, I did similar things to a chest plate (the one with the round plates on it and after trimming away the boney bits:

I glued on the extremely subtle skull icon:

More to come! Thanks for looking and have an awesome day!

Thanks for the feedback, Nevelon! Heh, yeah, painting. The issue with painting is that I have to convert my work space from BUILD to PAINT. I'm only slightly motivated to do that, but I acknowledge the fact that it needs to start happening soon. We'll see how things go. I recently broke the tip of my painting thumb by somehow catching it in my car door. Maybe when it heals I'll switch focus. Thanks again!

Wow, thanks very much, Cam. You flatter me deeply. My patience is mostly forced. I've grown to think and communicate creatively in 3 dimensions (as opposed to drawing where I started out). The more I do it, the easier it becomes. Also, I'm never married to the outcome. Whatever I'm building will become what it becomes.

Thanks again guys! Updates when I regain use of my thumb! Have an awesome day!

I decided not to let my broken thumb stand in the way of building more ork stuff. My stormboyz need more...well, boys. My chain skwad needed one last chainchoppa-armed boy and I was tired of same old same old. So I bought some chaos bits off eBay and set to work. After chopping the blade off the underslung choppa arm:

And selecting my chainsword to work with:

I sawed the weapon off the arm and filed down the useless chaosy icons:

I also needed to file the butt end top a bit to make sure it fit all nice and proper like:

Then set about chopping a length of plastic sheet to make dags (proppa orky icons):

(here is hard to see, but a filed both sides of this strip and distressed it a bit with my knife):

Carving to completion:

After a bit of clean up, I glued new choppa to old arm and tada!

Thanks for looking! Let nothing stand in your way.

Here's some more shots of my new WIP stormboyz unit. I've dubbed them Da Skullboyz. Let's see if y'all can figure out why...

Right now I'm working on converting Grukk into Waaazag da Kan't Stoppable. First thing I started with was the gun. Waaazag is traditionally armed with a kombi-skorcha. And Grukk is armed with a kombi-rokkit. So starting with this base:

I trimmed away the superfluous bits:

And cleaned it up a bit:

Then did a mock up:

Which I decided I didn't really like. Then I thought about Waaazag's traditional armor: the Mega Variety and tried to envision what that would look like:

Ultimately deciding that I would need to build the hand and armor totally from scratch I set out to carve the hand from the gun:

And then thinking, "You know, this looks like a really awesome slugga. I think I'll save this for a subordinate Warboss's build."

And that's as far as I got with the gun last night.

Now, moving on to the face/head. Grukk's over sized tooth is just ugly and silly looking in my opinion, so I endeavored the shave it down to more reasonable proportions:

My Warband's icon is this:

Because Waaazag has fangs:

I got the teef from the boots of a stormboy. Worked out pretty well, I think. Thoughts?

Yeah, that's the first goal. Once that's done I need to make a Zagstruk conversion and then another 90 stormboyz for the Vulcha Skwadron from the Waaagh! Ghazghkull supplement. 181 stormboyz is my ultimate goal. I can even fit that in a 2000 point Unbound army.

Did some work on one of my scratch built battlewagons.
I'll start with loads of shots of my side armor plates:

And then working on the top platform:

Making bullet holes with an exacto and file:

Distressing a support beam:

That structural beam in "action":

Building the structure for the front turrets:

After trying to figure out how I would make traversible turrets for my forward big shootas, I settled on using the old GW tires as the basis. I cut out the inner hub to begin with:

Lined up on the base:

I started also doing work on the rear hatch by heavily modifying some old rhino hulls. I don't know what brand of glue I was using 20 years ago, but it sure was strong. I had to use a saw to hack off this plate because it wouldn't pop off like I expected it to:

Anyway, I'll have more pictures to show soon. C&C always welcome. Thanks for looking.

Many thanks, Ustrello!

So here is the main body of the turrets:

Then I take one of these barrels and saw off the end caps, using the detail rings as my miter-guide:

And then because I have no in-progress shots of the turret's construction I have to just show off the end product. The scratch-built gun is pinned to the middle barrel hoop which is slid over the white post. Then I glue the post ends into their respective housings and leave the barrel loop loose so that it traverses 360 degrees:

The middle turret is notched at the back because there's an elbow of plastic adjoining the back of the front alcove to the top of same:

Let me draw everyone's attention back to this picture:

Because I painted it black and glued one of the finished turrets onto it before I remembered to take in-progress shots of what I was doing:

I also built a notched side plate to arrest the traverse of the turret:

And here we see a vision of what the front three turrets will be like once they're all in place:

Here's a progression of shots showcasing the work on the right side hull armor:

And then less photos showcasing the same sort of evolution for the left side armor:

I get pretty caught up while building and often forget to to pause to take photos.

The front hull got some love, too:

The opposite side needed a lot of filing so the sheets of styrene will fit:

And that, frankly, is as far as I've gotten on this project so far. Thanks for looking. C&C always welcome!

So, always switching gears, I started building some boys. The assembly line:

There's still tons yet to do:

Here, the last few boys left in my second mob of stormboys (to bring them up to 30):

And here the beginning of a new (3rd) mob of stormboys (who will eventually become 30 strong):

Despite the fact that, between stormboys, nobs, and regular boys I still have 230+ potential orks to make, I am actually starting to feel nervous that I'm running out of orks to build.... Madness, I know.

Thanks for looking and have an awesome day!

I was reading through this blog and there are tons of interesting and original conversions on here. I like the mixing in of the third party bitz. I've recently discovered Spellcrow and made some Tankbustas that you can see in my blog in the signature. There is a ton of character and flavor in these pages of yours and you should be proud. Definitely lookin' good!

But I have to ask if you ever intend to paint these guys.
I've never seen someone with literally hundreds upon hundreds of un-painted models! How will you ever make a dent in that backlog without falling into despair?!

Keep up the good work. I hope to see some paint on this page soon! You'll have an amazing army for sure.

Nice alternate wheels. Where did they come from?

Not sure on double wheels at the front though. Trucks usually double up for traction on the driven wheels, I believe. The front wheels not being driven and being required to steer are usually singular. Feel free to disagree though, just a thought.

Post by: Warboss_Waaazag

Thank you, Cleatus! I actually don't limit myself at all. I just build and build and sometimes paint. Why limit yourself when you can just keep making. Although, I must admit, committing to finishing one project and sticking to it until it's done helps a lot to motivate me to keep making other things. Once I knew for certain that I have the ability to finish, even after I lose interest in the project, I gained the ability to work on dozens of projects at the same time. For me that project was my deffdread. It took about a month to build and then sat on my work bench for a year. Then I primed it and it sat like that for 8 months. When I finally painted it I couldn't remember a time when it wasn't painted. It took me nearly 2 years to work up the motivation to finish the dred, but now I know, that no matter how much time passes on a project, I can still go back and finish it. Everything is easy now. Also, I work on a lot of terrain in between projects. I encourage all to follow the link in my signature and check out my terrain blog, too.

So I poorly primed the dash and buggy:

And then painted the driver and parts I knew would be covered by the dashboard and "door panels":

And then dry brushed the dashboard and door panels with tinbitz:

And then with leadbelcher:

Interior "doors"

Exterior "doors"

Then finished up the detail painting on the dashboard and glued it in place:

And then glued the door panels in place, too:

And that's the most amount of progress I've made on this project in over a year. Hooray!

How did I miss putting up pictures of my beautiful killa kanz? I has no idea!

Obviously I can't leave well enough alone and all of my kanz have at least a little conversion. Even the grotzookas get minor tweakings so that they're not all the same:

I also, at some point during uploading, lost track of which kan was which. Bear with me as I try to sort them all out. Here is a WIP with awesome little leg plates and a very stompy gait:

Here a kan with a kustom exhaust:

A runner shootin'

Another kustom grotzooka (I was committed to the idea of grotzookas):

And soon there will be more! Thanks for looking. Feedback always welcome. Have an awesome day.

Spoiler:
 Warboss_Waaazag wrote:

I LOVE this looted wagon! It really reminds me of back when the Ork model line had a sense of humor (especially Epic).

Thanks, Grumblewartz. Unfortunately this model took a dive recently and is in need of some repairs. The cannon popped off the turret, and some bits popped off the hull, but for the most part it remained intact. I might turn it into a giant flatbed truck and save the crazy turret for a new looted wagon. Dunno yet.

Here's a close up on the variety created with base coats and highlights.

Feedback always welcome. I'm glad I'm making progress with these models finally.

I've got to do something about the quality of these photos. Anyway, I've finished the skin on 115 boys. Now I have to start grouping them into units and selecting the most obnoxious combinations of bloo, yellow, gold, black, white, and gunmetal. Huzzah.

You said it, Captain Brown! It's why I'm limiting myself to 6 models at a time. The skin was one thing, but clothes on 150 models turned out to be too daunting a task.

As to the tan, it's really just a yellow basecoat.

Amazingly, it's been less than 3 years since I've last posted any progress. BUT, while spending quarantine building every unmade model in my possession (or really only 400 or so of the more than 1,000 I had/have), I unearthed an unfinished WAAAZAG himself. So, I finally finished him. Here he is, tada!

Also, not pictured, I finally finished building all 90 of my Stormboyz. I'll post more pictures when I find a tabletop clean enough (and large enough) to showcase everything I've completed.

and then a mob of generic nobz.

Thanks, Theo. I also made a few other themed units. These small mobs are all meant to be attached to trukks that I'll one day get around to building. First up are the helmety trukk boyz (complete with nob who wears a not-subtle icon to remind his boyz wot they are all about):

And then this enthusiastically grenade-tacular mob of stikkbommaz:

I also made a bunch of kombi-rokkit nobz

And kombi-skorchaz:

Somewhere I have a nob to match this mob.

I've got about 8 or so more actual loota models and quite a few left over burnas, so I should have 45 Lootas soon.

Funny you should mention that, CB. It's frankly difficult to change gears now that I have momentum for once. I've built more than 400 models over the past 2 months, give or take. Way more that I thought I'd be able to, but still barely making a dent in my titanic collection. I keep thinking I'm going to run out of time before I start seeing a significant reduction in my to do pile. So my plan now is to keep building until I run out of glue before I switch over to mass painting projects.

Good to see you're getting so much work done, Boss! Anything worth doing is worth doing to excess!

I really like the 'themed' mobs- maybe it's the OCD/Imperial Guard guy in me, but I like being able to look at a unit on the table and know what they are, without having to ask the other player. Grouped like you have them puts me in mind of when I started playing (a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... ).

And if you're on a roll, rock on. You'll know when to focus on a special unit or figure. I'm going to enjoy seeing your productivity over the next little bit.

Thanks, Meer_Cat. I just got a letter from my job (I work at a Casino) that basically says - and I'm paraphrasing quite a bit here, it was 3 pages long - I have medical insurance, free of charge until August 31st, 2020, but there's no guarantee we'll even reopen by that time. We will be amongst the last businesses allowed to reopen and there's no telling when or even if we will recover financially from this hit. In short, not everyone may be asked to come back to work, but if we are, it will happen in seniority order. The company understands if I have to find another job in the interim and move on. And I will still be able to collect unemployment (which at the moment pays me more than if I was working because of State mandated subsidies) even after the period of my furlough is done (apparently furloughs can last up to 6 months before becoming official terminations).

So, this is both good and bad for probably semi-obvious reasons. For one, it means I can collect legit unemployment for several more months, saving thousands of dollars in the process because of my unique living situation, low monthly fees, not paying for gas, tolls, or food on a daily basis. For another I can expect many more weeks of hobby productivity (Hooray!). And for a third, I have the luxury of watching the rest of the country and the world take the risk of reopening. I can watch the consequences of that without putting myself at risk. I can live in relative safety while the eager rush into disaster and get themselves killed.

On the down side, I might lose the best job I've ever had and be unemployed in my forties and in a job market clogged with candidates and an unknown demand for labor. So, I'm choosing to focus on the positive for now and just get as much Hobbying done as I possibly can every day until I get more definitive news from my job, whenever that is.

Thanks for reading this, if you have. More Orks to come shortly.

Man I hope the job situation works out. I’m in a similar spot. Though I work at a hospital, my old position is still fully staffed, but I took a promotion two weeks before they announced furloughs and the new position was cut . I’m still expecting to be called back, and I’m making more money on unemployment. Productivity is through the roof right now.

Just be careful with the unemployment as the extra $600 a month from the government cares act ends July 31st. After that it’s looking like base unemployment.

Orks coming along nicely.

My situation is a bit better, but not enough to where I'm not caught between the twin points of "I'm 58 and I need to be careful" and "the bank likes it when I pay my mortgage on time". Thanks, Theophony. Personally, I love ramshackle - comes from my inability to cut a straight line. I'm holding off building my buggies, mek gunz, and battlewagons till after I've completed all the infantry units, but almost every one of those unit types will be at least partially scratchbuilt. I've got two trukks waiting to be completed, two Battlewagons half built, twenty-five old skool ork buggies, and like forty-five mek gunz to hammer out. Maybe I should do some work on some of those to break this grey monotony up, after all?

I have a better handle on what I'm painting my orks. They're a Deathskullz/Bad Moonz band, so my color palette is yellow, blue, black, white, gun metal, and gold. Plenty to work with and obnoxious as possible.

Thanks! As to the question of how long? About 20 years ago, give or take, I Worked at GW retail stores. Back then employees got significant discounts on purchases. I used that to my advantage. Additionally, about 11 years ago I came in to a very large sum of money. I squandered most of it, but bought a brand new car and most of the orks you're seeing me amass here. Back then there were sellers on ebay that would sell lots of 10 ork torsos, 10 ork legs, and most kits still come with arms to make two different unit types. But I also horded orks, always afraid I would not have enough, never daring to make any for fear I'd somehow run out. And now I'm past that fear.

On my work bench I have 50 ork bodies glued to legs, 7 ork legs glued to bases, and 50 more legs waiting to be worked on. There's also 38 nobs in various states of assembly, 10 bikers, 8 deffkoptas, 8 killa kans, the parts for maybe 5 more trukks, 3 shokkjump dragstas, 2 kustom boosta blastas, dozens of old skool buggies worth of parts (wheels, drivers, etc.), and two more less scratbuilt battlewagons about midway built. It's also extremely possible I have a hundred more models tucked away in storage that I can't get to because of lock down.

The short answer, though, is that I've been hording parts and ork models for the better part of 20 years and now I'm finally building them all.

To save on the number of cans I suggest you magnetize the weapons. I have to start on my mek gun. I'm going to try to magnetize as many weapon options as I can. They are too expensive for me to make them only one way. Will you convert any of your vehicles or will you make them standard?

There was a time when my answer to this question would have been an unequivocal "literally all of them converted or scratchbuilt". Sadly now I have to say that the 7 or 8 kanz I've already built are only slightly modified (I don't believe in using magnets), the 3 shokkjumps are mostly kit, the Gorkanaut, and the 2 boosta blastas I have are also kit builds, but everything else - my trukks, other buggies, mek gunz, battlewagons, karts, wagons, battlefortress, Morkanaut, and anything else I can think of will be kitbashed, scratchbuilt, and/or heavily modified.

I have no idea if hashtags work on this forum, but if they do, I've agreed to participate in the #raqrexchallenge and my project this/next month will be what I have affectionately dubbed the Orky Meyer Wiener Trukk. Updates as the build progresses. I need another Trukk anyway.

Photos for reference.

My question for the community is this: the wiener truck is closed cab, but the Trukk is open topped. Should I be faithful to the source and have a door in the wiener end to spill boys or should I be faithful to the trukk and make my wiener open-topped?

Any and all input is appreciated.

Looking at the wiener trukk made me realize that to be true to the design, I would be covering up too much of my wheels. So I switched to another shortened chassis I had and got to modifying it.

Chopped it in half.

Fiddled a bit with the inside angle on one half.

And started work on the wheels and axles.

Here's me trying to wrestle this residual plug of plastic and metal out of this wheel so the axle will fit better and stronger.

The first wheel fits perfectly into my makeshift axle.

The second required so much kludge.

And then here's my first attempt at making these axles fit and stay.

Well, my chassis fell apart and I was forced to reinforce it when I hammered it back together.

And I had to carve down the front axle bracket so the tube I'm using for the makeshift axle will fit more flush.

I promise I'll make real progress on building the lower hull for this thing tomorrow.

Here, through trial and error, I made brackets to define the edges/width of the hull. It's just strip styrene and sprue widgets glued in place at the pencil marks of the chassis' width. The tiny white strip was put in place when I thought I'd be removing these and I didn't want to remeasure every time. It ultimately proved pointless, but I left it there anyway.

Then I started building up the front fenders using plastic tube, which is essentially just more strip styrene from Evergreen.

This is as far as I have gotten this morning. C&C always welcome. Thanks for looking and have an awesome day!

Thanks, edstuff! It's slowing going, but ever so slowly I'm making progress. I'm trying to work on it a little every day.

Slow and steady wins the race; this is really detailed work- very nice!

Will you have Grot mechanics to assist the Kant Stoppables?

So I finished the underlying structure of the fenders and realized the midsection of the chassis is a little weak. It's at least the place where all the weight is going to be carried. So I chopped up an ABS I beam I had laying around and filed it down to create a better surface for glue (it's starts off way too shiny). I test fitted the beams, but I'm thinking I ought to paint the inside of the fenders and wheel wells now, while I can still get at them before I permanently affix this next bit of internal frame.

as always, C&C welcome, thanks for reading, and have an awesome day!

Have to say, I'm enjoying the progress on your wiener trukk, it's a brilliant idea and can't wait for more updates. I agree with Arakasi's idea on the roll bars, that'd be cool.

Thanks, Tyranid Horde. Round shapes are going to be a new challenge for me, so I'm looking forward to adding to my skill set by totally mucking up this build.

Okay, so I added more tubing to the superstructure to finalize all the points I could glue stuff to.

Then started on the fender details by cutting out a rectangle of thin grey plastic from plastruct. I sketched out some basic dimensions and snipped it up with a scissor (it's so thin).

I lined the fender edge with super thin Evergreen plastic strip and used various drill diameters to distress the bottom edge. I also used a rasp to distress the super smooth surface of the grey sheet. And after feathering the rusty bottom edge with a knife and a file, decided there needed to be even more distress along the reinforcing.

Then rolled the sheet around a pen and glued it on.

And here's where I'm at so far.

Thanks, friends!

I detailed and attached the left fender today.

Next will be the rear fenders and then on to the grill and rear bumper.

Thanks for looking!

Started work on the left rear fender. Lots of bending, snipping, and folding while I hope the glue holds things in place.

Everything about this project is trying to teach my hands how to make the things I see in my head. It's a LOT of trial and error.

I swear, every time I post something along the lines of "...later today..." I fail to post later that day. At least this time it's only a few days instead of weeks, months, or years, right?

Anyway, I made more progress on the lower bun. Here's a bunch of pictures from too many angles.

Plus a close up of the too much detail I've been adding to this thing.

And the front end with my terrible sketches of what I might want the grill to look like.

I started work on the front grill using this template.

Then I promptly lost it. Completely gone, fell on the floor, nowhere to be found. So I started again with 2 pieces of plasticard.

Added rods for the grill plate (which, by the way were somehow so difficult to place) and a top ridge line.

Then a bottom ridge and started wrapping it with more plastic sheeting. This is as far as I've gotten.

Thanks for looking!

A few missed days never hurt anyone! The grill looks cool, it gives me a real 20th century american car vibe off it. If you could get some fine mesh, the radiator behind the grill would be cool.

Might not be totally useful, but the mesh screens you get for smoking pipes might fit between the grooves nicely? They're cheap enough too. Realising now I should have mentioned what wire mesh I was on about.

Here's a group shot of the mob I'm working on. They're schtick is that they're stikkbommas, and there's 12 to fill out a trukk.

Of them, these are the most "done", even though I think I went way too subtle on their details.

Let me know if you think I should make the yellows more visible or if I should keep it subtle as is.

Yeah. In 7th and 8th ed I could have 30 strong units of Stormboyz. So, naturally, I made three 30 boy units of Stormboyz. Now I have 45 too many. Or, put another way, I have to make 3 more Nobz for them.

Hurrah- you're here! I missed your posts earlier in the month and am glad to catch up now.

I think you're taking the Napoleonic Wargamer credo of "in mass lies perfection" to its furthest logical extension with so many Orks- I read somewhere that the best way to eat an elephant is one piece at a time and keep at it.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing more updates on the progress!
