apparently it's not that good. It fires 30ft, not 100, you need to fire in an upwards direction, and the band is too hard to pull for the little 'uns. I might be getting this neat little thingymajig:
in january, last snowday, I found some green snow. I was like WTF...oh yeah, it's grass...I hadn't seen it in so long, I honestly forgot what a pile of grass looked like. I then covered it up by laughing and pretending I was joking...got away with it
^^ will upload some pics of the work i was able to pull of... i am very pleased by it and i will add them in the late evening for you all to see.
and jeppers, the kids are heavy onto me and gifts are wrapped already but still have to look after my lil ones so there is often no time to do some hobby work...also as my hobbyarea is in the living room next to the christmas tree i have to clean up the mess lest santa will object to all sharp edges liing about the place and stuff^^
We undestand my fiancee has to have a tidy house at crimbo , its the only time i bend to her submission, i hate tidying lol so little space for moddeling here either, fortunately my boys dont demand my attention 100 percent these days though!
Sounds interesting , hope you get chance to post.
so here it is, battling with pooish pampers and snoty noses of my kids aside i managed to get a bit of groundwork done for the airship...
i have concentrated my work to the railing as i saw that this battle must be won to get other stuff for the airship done...
i have tried the suggested methode of boiling wood to make it bend to my whim....but i was unable to do so...after some cooking time it still was to splintery and not bendy at all...so i gave up with that idea and used clippers to cut the wood in neat sized pieces and tried a little wooden mosaik^^.
i built a wooden wall around the entire deck to get a basic structure /skeleton of the railing. after that, which took some days as i had to stop ever once in a while to let it cure, i then used diluted PVA glue to glue postit (yep you did read right) paperpieces to the walls and thus creating and even surface.
thats where the current staus quo is situated and when i´m done completly creating an even surface i will glue further cardboard in smaller pieces to the frame and thus creatiung a bit orky like hide for the steely look of the hull...well at least this is something that is already done in my mind^^ i have to just pull it out of my head...sounds messy a bit^^
well there is not much further to boast about so heres the pics^^:
these show the early works for the railings still in the mosaik stage^^...the tools shown are mostly used for pressing and weighing a ton^^ but i used the heavy red clippers also seen on the pic for cutting the wood to size with...the cuts looked horrible and way to uneven to let it be uncovered later but i fugured as the would get a steely hide the skeleton could look shaby as hell as noone later one will think how it look underneath^^...warhammer, all for show^^
the next shots are abut two days later...i used a cadian still unpainted so to better get a reference shot...i guewss this one here will be forever in my head as private measuring^^
i tried a first coverage with a whole page of DIN A4 put i quickly switched to odd ends of paper and then to postits to get a quicker and easier coverage of the skeleton...
detailshot of messy mosaik^^
and covered a bit in postitpieces in the curve of the tail of the deck...
still messy skeleton yet to be covered by paper...front view...
mister private measurement inside point of view and on the lookout...
and the whole moneyshot of the deck and hull and blimp all in one go^^... er make that two^^
i hope i made up with all of you sticking to the thread but having to endure endless waiting to be currupted by nonsense about snow^^
would love to get a bit of comments and critique^^
ha you needen have to wait longer mate as i will post now the last repartee in airship design...these pics are fresh as ice^^
behold:
well i could leave it at that and let you all built your own airship by the parts assembled here but i am feeling nice tonight so here is a full shot^^ all included...
my wife said it looks a bit crowded now and i have to say she´s right...but what am i to do...? i will have it be used that way...and it will get a bit more crowded when then skiffs are on board too...
the next thing after the steel plationg the hull is the pipes to be layed to get a working energy trasmission around the place...
hmm. looking good- try squidging the bridge closer to the boiler. Maybe put the propeller on the back, glued underneath. that'll save a good few inches. Then you can move the boiler flush with the back, and then you'll have 5" more room.
oh and you're rules are done, so long as you're happy with them.
hmmm i have had similar thoughts ...i have to see if the propeller is able to be placed on siad position... that would indeed space out the room a lot...i will give this thought some chance to see if it would work tommorow in a quite moment... will post tommorow night my endeavors...thanks for the hint...
will now seek my bed as tomorrow will be a busy day... last groceries shopping and housecleaning and stuff...countdown till santa...: T- 36 hours...(or something^^)
I see the wall has been added. now if any soldiers falls off, it will be a totally punishable offense per the Primer as there is no accidentally falling off with a wall around you! Any soldiers falling off the dirigible will be executed posthumously! Along with a reduction in pay-grade.
Wow i look a way for ten mins and what do i miss! okay it was longer than ten.. Well Vik your railings are a great attribute to your patience mate , they add a great deal to the airship, will you be adding rivets to these as well ? i think shrike is right about putting the prop overboard if it will fit , then the engine could be pushed right to the back , and the bridge towards it , creating that famous eye candy rule of thirds, or the golden ration whichever you prefer. but it still looks good as it is right now, like a submarine everything on board has its use. standing room only . do you plan on adding a mast or radio tower? i reacently watched master and commader and it reminded me of your ship , i reccomend it if you havent seen it , lots of cool little touches you might use when adding finer details. well glad to see you managed to get some free time , and i hope there is more to come after christmas.
Automatically Appended Next Post: would love to see your skiffs . btw what are skiffs?
Automatically Appended Next Post: i noticed ypu have bulit down under the deck as well , that adds some nice depth, did you use polystyrene for that?
yep on all accounts exept master and commander...
there will be millions of rivets probably all over the hull so that will be a major thing to do...the kids had a kalender each for counting the time till chrimbo and in it where lots of crappy toys and cardgames...these look like normal pokercards but half the size and they got in each set lots of spare ones and their nice curvy corners will provied a nice view of armor plates for the hull...its difficult to explain i will hopefully be able to show tomorrow...
like your comparrsion with a submarine...the idea struck me too, as for military purpose...every space is used...see carrieres or small fighting ships as well, there is no luxury there..
and jep the golden ratio rule would be nice to uphold would add lots of syle to the model as now it seems to be overstuffed...
the skiffs are little sideboats that will be used as landing gear...and the term skiffs is known to me from the jabba the hut skiffs shown in the return of the jedis film the supposed execution and later freeing of the rebellios crew^^ with boba fett getting tossed inthe big mouth of ...lost the name^^
for the thickening of the deck i used indeed polystyrene, the pink insulation foam everybody here on the board uses...its quite sturdy and cuts niceley...
i will see if i can use the propeller upside down...the lower filterpart will be the crucial part to allow this or not...
thanks for all the nice comments and helpfull hints...this will be the last post for now, have a goog night mates,
Is that a GB flag down the side... ey but good. If you add a vox-tower kinda thing to the bridge, as well as fitting to my rules, it will look good. either the planetstrike bastion vox-array or scratch-built...
thank you Arakasi and its nice of you to see you in the ranks of fololowers of this thread, feel free to contribute all you want to add, things that might make sense and all other stuff too...for reference just reread the thread^^
ok, thats something i have already thought about, the concept for that is brewing in my mind and i will hopefully find my creative freespot for that after the busy time ahead^^...
sorry i had a quick mock up with the propeller upside down and out of deck at the tail but was unable to make a pic...all i can say is that i currently cant figure out how to attach it to the ship if i would construct it outside...
whoa mates still some timne left before santa angst can really start...
yep i thought of that too...maybee i even dismount the propeller and that yellow cone from the blue filterthingy...
and it will definatly be mounted on a base as in any other way it wouldn´t be any use on the battlefield and the whole point of "air"ship would be lost...
in fact i have a very basic base done but i dont know when i will be able to put one and one together...
don´t know when i will be on next so here is to all followers of my lil ol blog:
merry christmas mateys and have a good and generous santa to fill your stockings^^
thanks shattered soul, i was very close to basing the army on bismark and a kaiser related army but instead i gone full on the quenny side^^ its just the pickelhaube i am not particular to...
although the stahlhelm looks way cooler in my book it is also littered with lots of bad imgaes as the nazis and stuff that happened made that look make me slightly wince when i see them...thats a folk thing i guess, when i see hells angels and the likes that tend to use them i have the same reactions...
thats why i bought me the british soupplate helmet...even the name instils pleasure....*ah hot soup*^^
merry christmas fellas

It looks far too top-heavy in my opinion... I don't know if you're planning on putting anything on the bottom or not, but you really should... Or else it'll just look like it'd roll straight over if it were to ever fly
If you have another egg, I'd say make a second propeller and put them on the sides. It needs to be able to turn, after all. recht, links, recht links and all that.
Think i saw this thread in it's infancy and wasn't completely sold but now it is coming together great. Are you gonna have a battleship/star destroyer command module antenna arrray on top? What are the wood 'ribs' that constitute the actual baloon part of the airship? Finally is there room to land a Valkyr on the deck?

I see where you are coming from with the stahlhelm and it being an icon of evil, what with the Nazi party and the later use by the biker gangs. Personally I feel that too many people let icons and motifs maintain power they shouldn't have. I mean eagles are still used worldwide as national symbols even though the Nazis used them in abundance. Hell look at the Jolly Roger and pirate motifs that evoked fear for sailors for centuries and now you see it everywhere. Anyhow... My artistic style is derived from the styles of Christopher Metzen and Samwise Didier of Blizzard fame, Adrian Smith, who does numerous projects for gaming companies, Todd Lockwood, William O'Connor and finally most prolifically Wayne Reynolds. Thanks for checking out my work.
at shattered soul, so there was the blizzard spark i recognized^^ the rest of the i am sur brilliant artists i have to look up one of these days^^...and your absolutly right that an atitude as mine only works in reinforcing the dark power these icons had and thus still have, but it is difficult to "empty" these things in ones mind...
at Perkustin
i think there wont be space enough for a valk to land on...there will be two lading skiffs like in return of the jedi however so ...and the middlesection of the blimp is made from an old CD racket from IKEA i didn´t use anymore^^ you probably know these odd moments when you see something of everyday life in new light^^
at anvildude:
there are about i guess 9 "eggs" more, so there will be definatly more propellers to be seen. in fact i plan on adding at least 4 engines like the one on the backside to be used for VTOL...
and weety:
there will be at least two or even four gondolas for shooting and maybe the backfaced propeller to be situated from on the bottom of the airship...
there will be pics of all that as soon as i have a bit more time on my hands when the kids are not so demanding in time...
See, I do not understand why you do not just have the propellers on the sides, on swivel (turning) mounts. I cannot imagine it would be too much more difficult...
at anvil:
i think we have a speach problem here, might you provide some sketches or a pic of wb found that could help? i think i have stated that i will build at least four of your suggested
propellers on the sides to keep the whole thing aloft...
at shaso:
be sure of that^^
at shrike:
i guess it would be cool, but also the valk would probably take a whole lot of the attention of the airship away...so it is a no go^^ as i want the whole attention^^
i posted that pic of an airship a bit before, tho from a different angle. bombs wont happen, they might be good in game but for me off limits...not my style. there will be a different methode for deployment tho^^...
they´re currently on a sideprjoct list i am currently working on a desin for the VTOL propellerengines ....have to find pieces to create four of them in one go...hardest part so far is making the propellers, as i want to have a more helicopter kind a look...maybe i am able to show progress tomorrow as i have cut up some clothpegs from plastics that currently seems apropriate to the task...
i could go the plasticcrad way but currently i want to do it the household way and not the total scratchbuilt way...
I hope this shows what I mean. You can use the same engines for liftoff and straight flight, if they can turn from up-down to the side. rotate, on an axle, like a tire or wheel, so the propeller part is either facing the ground, or facing backwards.
your pic is helping me understnd your concept. i for now never thought about multi directional propellers....will have to give that a shot...that will be in terms of modelling a bit more to construct tho....
at Draglide12,
be sure to post some pics of yours as i might pinch an idea or two from you^^ also nice to get someone inspired by my dabbling in scratchbuilding^^
at neil,
thx neil, hope you had a great christmas^^, did santa surprise you with some gaming thingies?
do you get money for hildsupport from the government too in britain? well certainly helps a lot^^ to us. i will look a bit more serious for a parttime job in the 2011...i am torn between thinking about spending money earned then^^ and going to work...during my lifetime i havent found a job that i would have done for the amount of money satisfied or for less because the job was satisfiing...the jobs i did generally sucked and i think thats what will stay with me...
jep the kids and wife (dont forget the wife^^) take much of my free time these days. when i am reading/writing at dakka i could work for my airship...but i like to use you all^^ for a bit of letting of steam built up over the day...
i am still by the way plotting on how to do the propellers for vtol...
i wont promise pics for now as i think it is highly doubtful to achieve atm anything worthwihle...so please stay with this blog regardless of the now empty banter from me^^
oh dear followers of the victorian flame thats fuling the steam...
my family went out for a little treasure hunting on our killing fields of last night. they salvaged quite a massive amount of rocket and firecracker assorted plastic leftovers...
i got tons of small halfglobes for more of my favorite sponsons for tau weapons as shown earlier in this thread and i have some new parts i will show in no short time...
and the best part is: after long haggling about how to do more propellers for vtol the kids dragged no less then four propellers out of snow and ice for me to now have a very definite idea on how to do them lot of them...
be prepared!!!
vik over for now, cause later this day treasure hunt part two will take its place^^
lol, still no pics but did we get lucky treasure hunters...we brought lots of blackpowdered smelly stuff back in our cave...there will be realistically viewing ashot of said treasure about monday when i have the house again for lil ole me...
then i expect your creativity to boost mine too^^...
Ah yes, the Fasching fireworks,,,did I spell that correctly? I remember firing a cap pistol that had colored flares just for the year end celebrations back in 1984
well spellt correctly only missed the occasion^^ fasching is were former christians try to get the evil ghosts to be pushed away by booze and dressing up hillarious...not to be compared when former christians try to get rid of ghosts by booze and "feuerwerk" on silvester...
really there is a big difference... probably in the kindof booze one has to drink to rid themselves of ghosts by adding spirits to one self... cant really tell as my body is a slightly malformed temple...^^
also check out this thread here for the aforementioned crackers...:
at henners
it will get four very big propellers for vtol flight so this will keep it upright and also it will gain a lot of weight at the bottom, so fear not! all is going to be mended acordingly^^
at shrike? seems i dont understand waht your refering to? will show the big base for the model in the following week so i think so...and follow my other material thread there might be a hint or two as what kind of base it would become...and
though neils not here now he might had an early glimpse of things to come as he suggested something...see one of his posts here for reference...
at shaso
hmmm bombs and torpedos...tho it is kind of the same thing as for destructional force i dont like bombs but think torpedos are cool...dumb am i not?
tho bobs are the obvious choice for a beast like that...and maybee even space will allow that too, we will see....
so here is a quick mock up to a suggested vision by shrike,
here´s to you man, did what i could , some constructive critizism is needed as i think this is not the end for that part of construct. sure there will be rivets and cables and stuff but how could i make them blades look more convincing?
at shrike:
if i´m on then i am constantly switching from games to dakka^^
at chibi:
did you mean the outer rim of the blades to be trimmed ?
will have a try and get it posted later on...and i try to make some cover ups for the blades as well, one centere and one on the outer rim...
thanks man^^
so as requested i show a quick mock up of a might be position for the propeller...
at blambi :
your right about them blades looking a bit closed...i actually glued all together...so i either let it stay that way or rip it all apart...? i am a bit unsure...my wife recognized it so thats my controlgroup right there as she is not into wargaming and all related stuff...
So this propeller's gonna be a steering one?
May I recommend glueing it to be flat against the zeppelin's rear, and have a rudder-rype thing?
BTW I found some old bionicle bitz in my old lego box while looking for some bitz that look exactly the same as your propeller, only with "open" blades.
I would tell you the name, but I can't remember. It'll come to me...
bionicles are really cool...shame i searched our suply and never came up with anything i really wanted to use... i wanted to do the tesla gun from lego bionicle...but the parts didnt play the part good enough^^
and your idea is yet again a thing i will try out as the ruder thing is something i also thought how to do and together this would add up...
Way longer than all my conversions, but then I've never done a scratch-build, I've always had something to build around, be it a rhino, a baneblade or a SM biker.
one day i really want to see your paint style...the way you talk and what thoughts are cruising/cursing through your mind makes me very interested about your style...
I'm fairly crap at painting- at times I focus and can do really well, but I'm an impatient little bugger and I rush too much for my liking. I am pleased with: My shadowsword My fortress of arrogance My GD '09 model My commissar yarrick My 8th company captain
Not pleased with: Shrike (need to repaint- one of my first models)
I am a good converter for my age. I have a good imagination and sense of realism (sort of) and dynamicism (is that a word?) Because I see models with swords raised to hit someone and shooting somewhere else, or shooting and looking the other way. I either go shooting or hitting- rarely both, sometimes neither. My favorite dynamic models: my old tactical marine sergeant, can't find him. My company champion basically all my command squad my sanguinary guards
and your right, either hit or shoot... not even super humans should be able to do both at once in tow seperate directions and able to be that precise...
and nope dont think that would be found in a dictionary^^
i am now hard thinking about ripping it apart again...the closed look looks not working. least i want is a non functioning look...the admechs of the queeny are very capabal so that has to show!...i have an idea that involves toiletpaper rolls, hopefully i have time to do that today...
vik
Automatically Appended Next Post: so here is a small update on the fan of the propeller...
i hope it doesnt look closed again...this would mean i didn´t understood the hint...
the parts where made from cardboard rings i cut up in eights of a circle and then folded. 20 of them formed the blades now. they are totally upright but will be bended in a more streamline manner so when glued together. i havent done that yet as i was unsure of the look...
Your prop looks very realistic, a nice size for steering your behemoth , the open pplan blades work better than the closed as well , nice attention to detail as usual , good update Vik
ummm, what do don´t get? i thought since the blades are more upright and thus the "wind" is more in charge then it is the right look? do you mean actual looking propellers more as in an old WWI airplane, with those two or fourblades rotors? should it look rather like that...?
oh it wants a ruder just by it self alone^^ and it will get a machine csing as well, have had a moment of revelation and found an old saladpot i now will use for said purpose...
i am here lurking in off topic dakka threads and keeping the creative flame on a smouldering level ...but i promise by the end of the week i will show the world, well the part that counts (namely dakka^^) the raw base and a done hull...after that who knows^^
try this:
pneumonoultramicroscopicsilivolcanoconiosis.
longest word in the english language. A lung disease caused by inhaling ash and sand dust. I am this cool- I learnt it out of boredom when I was 8.
ähem, as i recall from my time at school those that learned out of boredom seldom were amog those who we the mere schoolmates deemed them to be cool...
that said and me being an old fart from before timecounting was invented i think now it could be seen from a very lopsided agle to be an act of coolness...
googled the word and it is in every website mentioned as the longest word in the english language, you do realise that your on nerd terrain here don´t you?
and you know some of the things i had to learn, worked as a retailer for meat and sausages in a shop once and i still have some of the numbers of the sausages in my head... once learnt cant be unlearnt...see thats why i am such a crappy fella when it comes to learning 40k rules...darn you hungarian salami.....
"see thats why i am such a crappy fella when it comes to learning 40k rules...darn you hungarian salami....."
I'm gonna sig that...
I am not one of those deemed to be "cool" at school- the people who are "cool" only act like that to be popular. If you have to change your personality for the sake of poplarity...that's just depressing. My brother is "kinda cool"- He can be, but he ruins it at times by acting like a total "special needs" person. I am in a nice social group, where we do weekly swimming trips and just be ourselves. It's very comforting to be able to do that around people.
I am deemed to be "nerdy" at times, but really, I have an associate (not really friend) who knows every score in every liverpool game since the new millenium. Now that's sad/nerdy. But because it's mainstream and lots of people like football, it somehow isn't. Now, playing board games isn't sad/nerdy. Playing board games and blowing all your time and money on it, and always thinking about it, that's sad/nerdy. Sad/nerdy isn't a measure of how much an activity sucks, it's more a measure of how un-mainstream an activity is.
the thing is i really suspect you having a splitt persona.... the things you have pm-ed me and then that mature talk here picture either someone thats using your acount together with you...someone around fourty years old or that you have as said above to mind in one body...
*carefully grabs away xacto knife from shrikes workplace, hides it by throwing it out of the window, than carfully steps backwards out of the room...*
ups i´m still on the interwebs...
heh heh heh, nah, I said- I act immature to off my brother. I'm not really like that. I like to think of myself as a 40-year-old teen. My 3 favorite comedies are from the 30's, the 60's and the 90's. My favorite songs are from the 70's and 80's, and I love the old TV shows like spitting image, blackadder and fawlty towers. I am also (If I do say so myself) a bright one for my age. And I get most of the jokes in old films.
when i see my kids doing or saying something clever, i say to the grown up person i am holding a conversation :
clever kids are gods punishments for parents...
if you want a nice little stearable kid, go for the dumb one. even my two year old son can sometimes outsmart me...isn´t that cruel?
and the four year old one is so damn good with repartees...
here is one of my favorites...
me: go home and polish the sun...son
felix (aged 3 at that time): but papa, we´re already at home...
see what can one man say against these kiddies these days. i blame it all on the nourishing food these days...when i was young...

Actually, it's my mad typing skills. I rarely make spelling errors, and if I do it's 99% a typo.
the other 1% is if it's either:

or if I'm tired.
i´ve got my wife for correcting my typos and shame is when i´m mostly on dakka she´s either not at home or she´s sleeping... so please send me xyz €s and i can buy me a correction prog for my pc...

What I've noticed about you, vik, is that you are somewhat of a MOD repellant. My army thread, this thread, and pretty much every one that I've seen where you've posted a lot at, no matter how OT the thread gets, no MODs post in it to get back on topic. We've talked about:
How (un)cool I am
Spelling and typo's
your family
the weather (snow)
Britishness
Longest words
monty python
you seem to loose the point here though...
i work with crap i talk crap and i produce crap, so no mods are intersted to see brown stuff any more it seems^^
cool huh? this post covers really neat the above posts aginst any inquiring spies here on dakka^^
lol i screwed a bit with a drill around to make the holes wider so that the clear plasticglass stick can be sticked inside the base...now i have to find the second stick again and then i can drill two morew holes into the underside of the airship to mount it...
So after it is mounted on the base and the rear propeller and rudder is glued on, what else is left to do before the paint?
I think we're reaching the end of the road...
not by far mate...sadly i have to plate the whole hull, i guess i will do that tomorrow well at least a bit so to show waht i have in mind, then i have to mount the upper deco^^ and get pipes to transfer power to engines, then engines for VTOL i have to model, and i want also a bit of weaponry on the upper deck...maybe not i dont know for sure...
then the whole gondola issue... i am currently working on a first one here... the things shown here in early pics... the black things under the blimp...
and if that wasn´t all i have to do the pipe for deplayment and after that still the skiffs...
so pretty much on my hands...and believe me i dream at night about painting that one, then i get up in the morn and its still not done yet for painting...
today i will show you, the still hopefully interested followers of this thread the mounted and based airship...
well it is only a very crude base and not fleshed out but that will follow...for now it is mounted by two ca. 40-50 cm long clear plexiglas rods. for now i am not sure if the overall height is to much to be of use in a game...your thoughts aer apreciated on that too^^
also a little further down the post you can see the first hullplating on the deck. i used playcards from my kids. in germany we use to hang a special kind of calender to the wall where some small gifts of toys and sweets sweeten the days wait till christmas. this year, well actually last year we opted for a more mature thing and baught a calendar ready made from a well known toymaker company... let me just say now that i have that overall crap of lil games and stuff in my hands for scratchbuilding i can put our money still to good use...next year we make again one out on our own...
so i used these playcards, they are half the size of a normal pker card and thus i pictured them ever since i saw them as steelplates to be used for the hull of my deck... after the deck is completly plated i will then undergo the process of riveting each plate... ten years later i expect to have after priming a nice looking roughplated deck...
don´t get funny with me as i fully well know how ridiculus it now looks with the carddesign all childish...^^
here it is to you all....more pics in my gallery of course...
a small evertrusting cadian as a size reference so to get a grasp on how far up in the sky this monster will soar...
first and second row of plating undergone, more to come too as i intend to do at least four rows...this will look when done almost like fishscales...
pleased to read all your comments and critics...
cheers and thanks for looking, vik
well these pics are a bit old now^^ as i was too lazy to post...was too lazy to do a text wall myself^^ instead i rather had only fun in reading yours^^ so i will hopfully get a chance on that tomorrow?...we get a visit of our landlord... he wants to sell our apartment... and we are now a bit afraid that we might get expelled in the process... so i have to clean up the house and stuff and start practising to be really friendly and stuff....like doooohhhhh.... but i have to let him in that (&&)/=&%§ of a (&)&)...
so i will in short try to put something up tomorrow^^
thanks shrike...for the praise to god... you do know the meaning of hallelujah?
that was your 1888th post.
Yes. And praise the lord cheesus* that you're not dead or locked in a GW cupboard. It happens.
*I actually have a homemade T-shirt with a picture of a stickman on it, with a slice of swiss cheese for a head. Emblazoned upon it are the words "Praise cheesus." I am also using a mousemat right now with the same thing on it.
I have another homemade one with a picture of a slice of swiss cheese on it. For extra emphasis and clarification, sewn into it in fancy letters is the word "cheese."
But ince I made it 3 years ago it's getting too small for me.
I really hope you paint my beloved union jack with bright red, white & blue. I would love to see your commander with some tea and/or a monocle.
and you gotta have blunderbuss shotguns.
and the classic bird-shooting rifles.
BTW could you bump my army thread? It's drifting into the cold, hard floor of dead threads.
well about the blunderbuss guns, no problem there as i have lots of fantasy stuff for riders and sharpshooters and boardcrew from fantasy line there...lots of conversion work then to do, but that will be funtimes...every man will count as a new world conquered^^
for now i have pictured your beloved jack to look rather like a lament of a union jack as the queeny victoria is in deep lamtation about her long lost husband and changed per decret the colors of the once bright flag into this:
so rather no blue but black instead and thus getting all a bit grimmer than the known union jack...see for further fluff earlier pages of this thread....i am too tired righht now to search it out for ye^^
Since the rules side of the zeppelin's dead now, I'll post the rules onto here (still WIP):
points- 300pts
AV 12/12/12
can transport multiple units.
heavy support
transports up to 50 25mm bases. (10 in the cabin, 30 on top platform, 10 in the bridge)
flyer
can only move 2D6 inches per turn.
weapons- tesla-cannon, rear-mounted multi-laser, 2 pintle-mounted heavy stubbers
tesla-cannon: S- AP2 plasma Range 72"
beam- select a point on the board up to 72" away. Any units within 1" either way of the line suffer the above hit using the below special rule.
the beam gradually gains energy as it travels- measure the distance between each unit and the telsa-cannon. Use the following table to see what strength it is:
up to 24"- S6 up to 48"- S8 up to 72"- S10
30 additional models may fire from the roof of the zeppelin.
ignores crew stunned/shaken.
when it is wrecked, the zeppelin will deflate. Any models within 3D6" of the zeppelin count as being in difficult terrain. Mark out this area. For the remainder of the game, that area counts as difficult terrain and confers a 6+ cover save.
when it is destroyed, the shrapnel is flung out far away from the zeppelin. The explosion will take place in D3 turns. When it happens, the radius is 3D6 and it ignores cover (unless the squad is under a roof).
Vox-array: If a CCS or PCS is in the bridge, it automatically doubles the range of all orders, and all vox-cast equipped squads automatically hear the order.
access points- the skiff. One squad at a time (11 models max.) can drop onto the battlefield.
The skiff, when deployed, uses the following profile:
open topped, AV 12/12/12, open-topped (for transport purposes only)
DS, immobile, innertial guidance system.[/b]
Its cool to see it comeing together in its entirety. Gona be fun to paint. Its making me want to make terrain out of houshold stuff too. I'm keeping my eyes peeled at wok for polystyrene...
hi nice to see you here again^^, jep i am a big fan of householdstuff. definatly plus on the budget, but i have drained or rather shoved quite the amount on money for that project...even if half of it is salvaged from the entire family^^
also plus is a nice amount of detail that you see only when painted differently...so for this stuff one needs one hell of a vivid imagination...would be nice to see some terrain of yours then weety
cheers, vik
Automatically Appended Next Post: so small update on shaso´s behalf...
here is a version of the grim dark queeny union jack...
comments and criticism will be apreciated...as usual...
Wow great update Vik , the airship base is looking fine, those plexi glass rods are Epic , can i ask where you got the from ?
The plating looks like it will work nicely , even if if it does take you a millenium to rivet and prime ;-) as for the height i love it great dramatic height is what airships and fly is all about , i say dont compromise. really hope its sturdy though , dont want all them fine painted minis crashing down on the table top lol!
dont want all them fine painted minis crashing down on the table top
thats then like topled on the table? hur hur hur^^
cool your the second to reply to the height issue... so now i declare this height as fixed^^
well i am hoping too that it is sturdy enough.... i want to make the base and the rods to be detachable so to better move the beast...hope that this still makes it sturdy enough...will do a test with moedls and the buildings ontop...wasn´t brave enough to try it first time tho...^^
the rods believe it or not are from a special art junkjard^^ yep, in our neighberhood we have a social network place house jkinda thing thats collecting toys, rubber, wood and plastic things from apartment clearances so they can sell it rather cheaply to artists...*cough* well anyway^^ i will probably be visiting that store in the future again...lots of good stuff there, once i got lego tanktreads there too... they await usage ever since...
the good thing with plexiglas rods is they are unlikley to give in and break, really tough stuff...highly recommendable...
cheers mate hope to see an update f yourself too, mate^^
dont want all them fine painted minis crashing down on the table top
thats then like topled on the table? hur hur hur^^
Then it'll probably take a few enemy models down with it ^^.
I get the image of british gentlemen with tea, blunderbusses and monocles shouting "Tally ho!" and jumping off the edge in an effort to kamikaze enemies. Wait, that'd be the japanese...
oh for that its all the same a britain rules the world now, the common wealth is now a galaxy wide system ruled by queen victoria so i have some samurais for close combat too^^ i would say if a whole world is under one rule you will see lots of different squads that represent a bit of a Tauish spirit^^
yesterday i aquired four AT-43 red block canned warriors that will act as sentinels for the army... i am constantly thinking karmans would be good stand ins for ogryns...
share your thoughts with me...
at young logan, i am currently a bit lazy but comments like yours gives fuel to the creative flame^^
i have done one already since i have him now for almost half a year now, should have been a stand in dreadnought for my sons army the iron templars but instead i will now use it for the imperials... he will get a space crusade replacement out of my current earth angles chapter.... round and round it goes where it stops nobody knows...^^
part tease, part true.
It would suit your steampunk commander, and my "Viktor Croaks" commander.
We both need it, but neither of us are prepared to pay £25 for one guy...
If I spot it's in stock in a bits site, I'll tell you. I might buy the whole command squad...hmm...
What bit are you working on now? Propellers?
no, still on the hull, when i say still i have rested a bit the work, but i will not get away with that now, won´t i?^^
i hope i get tomorrow some work on it done and then will hopefully provide us all with a feature pic of all that is now onto everything^^...
yep, the mini i truly like...even as i have creed and his fellow sarge i still feel the need to hve more command minis on the airship...this thing has to have loads of ém on it and then i still need mooooaaaarrrr for the ground troups and well there is little arguments against too much HQ models...^^
well if i had the money i would probably shell it out for all five of them , cause 4 more guardsmen doenst hurt and the commstation looks also sweet to me...
by the way i got now 2 genuine death korps of krieg in my closet^^ as shown earlier and another 14 guardsmen...
as your much fitter in rules than me...well thats saying a lot...not... i have also baught some snipers from the HQ sprue.... is a sniper a heavy weapon choice in IG platoons or do they operate on theier own? because in the game DOW you could get the IGs grenade launchers and plasma pistols but i have only seen assasins then...
Like:
commander- Lenore
battle company- muninn (one of Odin's ravens, which the raven in E.A.P's the raven is said to have been based on.
Oh and I have about 10 relations from raven guard to "The raven".
Viktor Croaks is the name of the CCS commandeer in my DKoK army, which will be allied with my raven guard.
Croaks because Vik said that that'd be a cool name for a guy, and Viktor because I said I'd name him in vik's honour.
*nods* then*shakes head* what to do, what to do...and what about all them educational monty phyton vids i linked...huh? there not worthy?
my thread is like those big amrican malls... you get everything here that you need and you never ever have to leave ...ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever....
Some of us have been wandering around in here for months now, unable to get out.
Unlike Theseus maybe you need to drop the thread rather than keep hold of it.
But it is too intruiging and enjoyable to want to let go!
nono i wont drop the thread...i swore to me that i will complete, have to comlete the airship...after that probably smaller projects and fatser ones will be made^^
vik
and didn´t they get crazy too in that place of minos?
cleaning my workspace and less posting on dakka and then more building on airship?....will start another attempt at spraying some IGS ....cross fingers for me...
so to all fellas who follow this thread i wnated to show you what i am up against to get a real good update on the airship shown...:
this is my current workspace...5 hours before cleanup and some creative work again...
you see, this mess is a constant ind of material fungie lifeform thats creeping around my workspace ever since i had my own first desk...
the way i tend to play around with materials and try new ieas leads to this mess...you can be sure of that. until i do sometrhing agioanst it it will grow to enormous heights and eventually collapse to form new hills...
well now back on topic i have again worked a bit on the hull and if all goes well there will be an end to the hullwork by the end of next week...so if you can afford a few thumbs/fingers crossed then this would be a good oportunity....
thanks for your support and next time i update i will show some better pics^^
OMG I have that chair sat next to my messy desk!
But mine's more paints and models than glue and bitz...my bits are the tidiest 40k things I own, in a plastic box, divided into left arms, right arms, and weapons, heads, legs, bodies and miscellaneous. BTW shrike's tip of the day- remember that there's "cell" and "lane" in it. That way you'll remember it.
BTW shrike's tip of the day- remember that there's "cell" and "lane" in it. That way you'll remember it.
man your talking in riddles this day here....
i was always thinking about sorting the limbs and stuff when building minis...instead i tend to use a small three drawer cupboard where i put all non build minis inside sorted by armies...but this will probably be resorted once i start modeling again...
as for glue mishaps i am monitored by the wife and she gets very serious about glue stains...so i had once this stain on a pullover and she got all pursed lipps and folded arms on me... so now i will be more cautious...
vik
Automatically Appended Next Post: by the way that chair is a very cheap present of my in-laws for my oldes son...probably under 30 bucks and i have to say i wouldn´t dream about buying that for my children...but they are more about being full then about being delicious...so crap is their style...hope the chair of yours is better stuff...spines gonna thank you one day...
I rarely use it, unless I'm either painting (something I usually do down the LGS), gluing (something I either do at the LGS, downstairs or elsewhere in my room), or playing small "test" games, trying out a new army or unit (something I usually do on my small LOTR-intended 2'x4' board.
Dirty messy boy! If its not messy then it aint Art!
What are you waiting on now Vik , it looks to me like its nearly done ! just get it primed and be done with it! forget about all them millions of rivets ;-)
oh there is a darn lot of work but i postponed that and moved to painting minis for a time...
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/342213.page probably i will return to building the airship real soon when i feel a certain cold drought of burnout with painting...
so this is kind of a rocker of hobby all around^^
hope to see you all over the other thread once in a while too^^
I now have "retainerface", as someone called me "braceface", which I then retorted that they are, in fact, retainers. Not a particularly catchy name.
I'm called "mars bar" due to my surname- marrs.
midget- I'm below 5' and two months shy of 15 years old.
makari- my profile name over on the B&C.
mini-man- see midget...
marbo- my username on several online FPS games.
cheesus- due to the fact that I don't go a day without mentioning and/or eating cheese, and as mentioned many pages ago I wear a shirt that proclaims "praise cheesus".
shrike the midget has a retainerface. A mini-man went up to him and called him cheesus. shrike slapped the mini-man across the face and asked his name. It was makari, so marbo shot him. Shrike stabbed marbo and eat a mars bar.
^^
I'm just thinking of 40k quotes and "altering them"
"Suffer not the cheese-haters to live..."
"purge the lactose intolerant..."
"In the grim darkness of the 41st millenium, there is only cheese..."
"blood angels..."
"even in death I still serve the tea at 11:00..."
thats unfair as i am the lactose intolerant from next door...you have to be quite a mile away when i have been drinking milk...father nurgle would be proud... cheese or othe milk derivates no problem tehre but give me milk and the wind will be green and well i guess i don´t have to draw a picture here... so no
purge the lactose intolerant..."
!!!!!
and
"blood angels..."
is pretty poor as a joke or are blood angels a joke all in themselfs?
also wrong thread my dear...
and you wnated to spill the beans as to whom you stole that ugly mug of a pic from...
^^ this projects is for now in hibernation... but far from dead^^ so thanks for the bumb^^ and i wont keep you for long in tzhe dark about Her majesties flying fortress^^
thanks, cheers, and keep this in fond memory until it gets it well deserved full steam^^, vik
what's left to do before the priming?
any guns to put in?
are the propellers finished?
is there going to be a flag (on the bridge)?
is there going to be a vox-array on the bridge?
is there going to be a captain of the ship?
For the latter I imagine a commissar's cap painted white, smoking a cigar/pipe/holding a cane, pointing/resting sword on shoulder/resting firearm on shoulder, and maybe with binoculars.
All the bits sites I normally look at either don't have it, or are out of stock...do you know anyone who has a baneblade? Do you know anyone who has the tank commander? Do you know anyone who has that head? Do you know anyone who will be willing to part with it with or without the aid of some swaps/money?
I'm sure there's someone who's willing to swap some stuff...or worse comes to worst you could buy a metal one and razor saw the hat off...or if worst comes to worst-est(?) you could buy a baneblade...then you could sell it/use it/use the parts for your bitsbox/use the parts on your airship.
lol yeah i see myself buying one of these monsters for spareparts^^
well i guess this means i have to do some GS work finally... but i have seen an auction for commader heads with caps... the old police offcer cap sort of... and this might be a good abse, but not for the nice greatcoated soldier as shown above... he will get a GS treatment...time to pluck up some courage...
A tip would be to try and get the general shape of the Cap by filing down a piece of sprue and then adding greenstuff on top for detail like the brim and badge. Making the cap entirely of greenstuff is risky as one slip..... Wait give me a sec to draw a picture.
i think i have to actually work with the amterial to fully understand your sketch here...the aterial is shooved around to form the peak? hmmm...i think i could try that with FIMO first it is longer to be sculpted and thus more forgiving...
well i did recently my sandbags with fimo and i think it went quite niceley... i think i would jsut sculpt the hat alone and then after baking i glue it and do all needed trimming afterwards...for something like eaupolets and stuff i still ahve to use GS as i couldnt put a mini in the oven^^
and the mini head i could probably uses as starting poit or stand in would be:
maybe i should spare me the trouble and just ripp his head of and replace it...
Hibernation, is a months long duration, that was why I was saying that. Good soldiers though. Once done with them, they will be needing their pimped out ride!
i was thinking about changing him just the whole yesterday and today too...i am currently at a loss of a good painted mini i could use...and to use a viktor von doom image ...rather unimaginative dont you think...
by the way the main reason i use the ^^ is that i am far to lazy when i want to post to use more than the quick reply option...and i dont remember all the orkimoticons by heart...so to lighten some of the posts that might be like agerman would invade the world...i try to make amends beforehand^^ see?^^
click on your "edit proflie" button, and next to the "change avatar" button it says "pictures must be smaller than ____x____" or something like that...
i used the mini pic and jsut put colored layers over it and the reduced the coverage of said layers so that the background shines through...rather easy and messy in the original but as an avatar quite good i have to say...but the helmet i think is the weakest spot...your right
I reckon: bestial brown trousers, with snakebite highlights and scorched brown washes, dwarf bronze helmets, with burnished gold highlights and devlan mud washes, scab red vests, with blood red highlights and 3:1 mix of scab red and chaos black washes,
i will probably use if my washes tests don´t work:
trousers: vermin brown
helmet : blck, then drybrush boltgun metal, then a brwon wash to get a brass look
vests: meachrite red..,with baal red as wash...
weapon is bolgun metal and black for non metal parts...
flesh will be tricky but that has to be seen what works best...
well i am off for now... sleepy pills finaly workkkkkkkkkkkkeeeeeeeeeeeeeddddddddd...........
I reckon tin bitz light drybrush for the helmet, on top of a heavier boltgun metal wash, on top of chaos black.
is he going to be pale-skinned, tanned or normal?
the bigger ones do look really good but for the airship i fear they aren´t big enough... also i built already a bigger version of that myself..^^look back a couple of pages or in my gallery...^^
the thread if zinge is quite good and i will follow that now...
nice thought...that i have to consider for real as making them for the small vessels woul be a true pain to do...that or buy lego bits...they now have quite some nice deep sea things which provide some nasty fans as well...
yup and much other companies are on the lego bandwagon too...mega bricks and their fellows...all lots of usefull stuff and i have seen some warmachine and iron man stuff in my supermarket recently i am more than tempted to buy from megabricks...
I'm all up for taking stuff off of other things...
Thats why I have a bunch of armless, leggless, cadians of the 40,000 century. And yet by the Emperor they are just as alive as you or me.
Boy 'What is the Emperor?'
Father 'It's got something to do with young men sacrificing themselves I believe.'
Boy 'When it comes to my turn, will you want me to go?'
Father 'For the Emperor any man would give his only begotten son.'
