Uberfallkommando for the win, gotta get that box...
I'm having somewhat better luck painting eyes by doing the before the rest of the face, then you can paint larger areas and clean them up later which is often easier. You can make the whole eye area black first and then paint in from the corners with white till it's the right size and shape. Anything beyond that is beyond me, I know some of these crazies can do the faces so they look like they've got eyeshadow and makeup and stuff...

Well from what I've heard it depends on location. Europe is supposedly looking at ~15th or so while the miniature market is saying late Sept/early Oct here in the states. But that's just conjecture.

I'm not the best painter but I'm still learning. Seems most of my time is spent in prep than actual painting. LOL! There are probably about 20 Infinity miniatures, primed and ready to paint in the lineup and then I switched to Operation Icestorm as a priority. Hoping that it works to get my wife into more miniatures than board games. I ran out of painting time but almost finished one of them, still need to base it. The rest still need some touch up done on them.

I have a group of friends that meet every other week for gaming but yeah initially will be playing with the wife. She ended up picking PanO so I'll be playing Nomads. My daughter and son are starting to paint miniatures so they'll probably end up playing. Although my son prefers to build the battlefields... he is looking for to the Battle System scifi set so he can make some scifi corridors and buildings.

I have been interested in Infinity as the mini are fantastic and skirmish games are more my style. I do not have the time to invest in a massive army 40k style game.
The idea of getting my wife to play would be win win! How succseful have you guys been? at the moment my wife spends the evening watching tv and I spilt time between an MMO or painting. Would be great to have a games night with her. I might show her Icestorm to see if the style of the mini's appeals. She has a great geek side so might be a entry game for her. Would love to here other peoples experiences!

That's good mate. Painting or playing together is a far better bonding experience than zoning out in front of the tv I imagine.
The battle system set does look nice.

My girlfriend enjoys the painting side ( she also likes nail art so their is lots of cross over there.) I was painting one time and my girlfriend was bored so I gave her a brush and one of my miniatures and told her to join me she painted it enjoys it and paints with me once on a while too.
So far the only thing I have played with her is the gears of war board game, we had a lot of fun and plan to play it again but sadly the learning the rules was a large time investment and we didn't manage to finish the game. Still had fun though.
Just tell her you would really like her to play and paint with you and ask if she is willing to give it a go. Tell her if she likes it she can have one of the ice storm teams. If she feels bad about taking something of yours just say you would rather have someone to play and paint with than two forces. Just make sure she doesn't feel forced or pressured into playing or painting.
Remember as well that if the stuff on the tv isn't particularly compelling you can both paint while watching tv. I often paint in the living room on a cheap dinner tray.

Red_Starrise wrote:Everyone who has icestorm already can you post any pics of what/how many pieces each model come in?
I can't take pictures now, but I can make a list:
Nomads
- Female Alguacil: body + backpack + right arm + left arm with CR
- Male Alguacil: body + backpack + right arm with CR + left arm
- Male Alguacil (lefty with urban hairdo): body + backpack + right arm + left arm with CR
- Mobile Brigada: body + backpack + head + sprue with antennae + right arm with MR + left arm
- Spektr: body + right arm with CR + left arm with knife
- Grenzer: body + lower half of the coat + left arm with MSR + right arm
- Reverend Healer: body + right arm with CR + left arm with Breaker pistol
PanO
- Female Fusilier: body + left leg + sprue with a) right arm with CR and b) left arm
- Male Fusiliers: body + backpack + sprue with a)right arm with CR and b) left arm (two different male Fusiliers with the same amount and type of bits)
- ORC Trooper: body + right arm with MR + left arm + backpack + sprue with antennae
- Akal: body + sprue with a)right arm with CR and b) left arm + jetpack + antenna (tiny bit) + sprue with two bits of the jetpack
- Nisse: body + backpack + right arm with MSR + left arm
- Father Knight: body + backpack + right arm with sword + left arm + sprue with two antennae
I hope that helps
My thoughts on the minis: all of them are really beautiful. The Reverend Healer is like really really beautiful. The Akal, Nisse, Father Knight, ORC, Spekter, Grenzer, etc, are badass. BUT: the little antennae on the differente models that have them (Mobile Brigada, Nisse, Akal, ORC and Father Knight) are going to be a pain in the ass, as usual. Also, the little bits on the jetpack look like quite fragile.
I forgot the CSU: body, left arm + right arm with CR suitcase

Thanks much Erasoketa! I'm never satisfied to build bulk infantry straight outta the box & I plan to turn at least the female fusilier into a hacker to increase the # of specialists for ITS scenarios. I'll be adding Bipandra as a paramedic & Angus as... a douchey fusilier lol.
I was a bit worried about the antennae tbh as I've yet to build any CB kits with them but the husam spec ops was annoying enough with whatever the hell those canister things on the sekhban's backs are.

Limited budget. I already have the train rescue & icestorm on order. That's 5 fusiliers so I might as well just use some of them as specialists

I'm the same way. GW figures are clunky enough that my conversions can be passable. But with Infinity figures it would be like taking permanent markers and drawing mustaches on a Botticelli.

I'm planning to convert my Moderator sniper to also have a combi rifle. At some point. 'Cause I don't see using the MSR outside of a link team and sometimes you want things that don't mesh with a moderator link team. Maybe a spitfire. Maybe just to be cheeky I'll take a deadzone reb dudes gun and use it instead!
Not sure I'll need to convert anything in icestorm though.

GW figs are built with this in mind, with so many extra bits and interchangeable parts like so many legos.
Infinity figs, though, have such detailed sculpts and are so well posed that I feel even a little bit bad adjusting arm angle with a bit of green stuff.

I like adjusting the arms. The boarding shotgun Gwailos looks cool posed normally, but I feel that mine is a little bit more aggressive, and I like the way my malignos is holding his blade.
I would probably have done more conversions by now but so many things are kind of left to suggestion as it is already. Pistol out is the default "whatever gear you want" it seems, and hackers seem like they can pretty well be anybody who has the same weapon type as their profile. Hell two or three of my shasvastii are just holding knives at all.

I have put together 5 minis of each faction in the box, including the ORC Troop, the Akal and the Mobile Brigada. I still haven't felt the urge to smash the models against the wall, so I guess the antennae and jetpack thing hasn't been THAT bad so far
I have yet to build both snipers, and the three special minis (Father Knight, Reverend-Healer and CSU).

The Reverend Healer is easy-peasy to clean and assemble but pay attention to her medi-gun or whatever it's called. That one little bit sticking out of the top is not flash. Or not all flash.
The female fusilier or either of the others can simply stand as a hacker, no conversion needed. If you get Angus and Bipandra, then Angus can stand for anything ( makes a great impersonator too) since he has no weapons. It is perfectly acceptable to proxy. I use Bipandra as a trauma doc for my ASA, and Angus is the machinist.
I was surprised to see the heads were not separate, which means that you need to watch for those mold lines on the faces. Not a problem on my minis. Fortunately.

Naw, definitely the medi-gun in her left hand. I think the piece is supposed to be some sort of vial. I've encountered it before (Bipandra and the Haqq Doc). Fortunately I consulted the photos before clipping it off.

Yep, definitely be extra careful and triple-check everything if it's your first time working with infinity minis, the detail is much higher than you might be used to.
"Oh, a mold line. *file file file* , that was a pants seam!"
And I definitely recommend using emery boards ( GW's worked fine but of course they had to kill the one product I bought from them) over files, files are only for the metal feeder tabs.

I read on the Infinity website it comes with a playmat and cardboard buildings/crates.
Question: What is the mat made out of? What size is the mat?
I'm a LONG time 40K player, but in its current state I'm at a crossroads and a new edition of Infinity is VERY appealing.
14529
Post by: Erasoketa
The mat is about 33x23" and made of paper. It's intented to be used with the smaller intro games from the O:I rulebook. I've played the first two missions and it does a good job.

Post by: Red_Starrise
I'm also a long time 40k player (21 years) who has recently switched to infinity. Let me just say that it's by far a more in depth game than 40k. The gameplay is far more interactive & you stay involved even in your opponent's turn. There's none of this watching your troops die wholesale & there's nothing you can do about it, all just because you failed to roll initiative.

Amen to that, brother.
I grew up playing video strategy games and 40k. I love strategy. But in the past few years, even when I had fun, I still didn't get my strategy itch scratched from 40k. I craved it. When I left and went to Warmachine and Infinity, I instantly felt that I had found my games.

Post by: Ignatius-Grulgor
Yeah they are definitely not supposed to be identical. The fusilier and alguacile that are aiming their combi were both a little awkward to get lined up though, what with having three contact points, and the fit didn't seem as 'perfect' as all the other models.
Loving how surprisingly solid the paper terrain is, not entirely sold on putting old boxes in the bottom of the larger blocks though. It's supposed to add more rigidity to the structure as an option but it just seems to push the building slightly out of shape. Paper mat took a little while under some heavy books to get entirely flat too but it's hardly intended for constant play outside of O:I missions.

I'm going to be stiffening the buildings with foamcore (because I have a crapload of it) instead of the little figure boxes.
The mat won't get used at all (the group I play with have several tables worth of lasercut mdf terrain).
It's been delayed for everyone who didn't get a early release from Gencon or wherever else - as demand was pretty much twice the supply. So they put a hold on release while they had more copies made to cope with the demand.
Hopefully it will be out in October - and the rules the next month.

Post by: -Loki-
I can't help but feel that the delay is a good thing. If the games hit the point where demand for the pre order outstrips what they planned to last for ~6 months or so to the point where a whole second run was ordered, it can only be to the benefit of the community. That many new players is a great thing. I'll take a few weeks delay if it means that many more people playing.

Plus, the closer the Icestorm release date to the release date of N3, the better.
I already had to tell my players when demoing for them: "So this is how it works in N3, but we play it differently now".

Wish I could say we were in the same boat but still waiting on the games & gears board to arrive after their KS, even with the table option though I'd be inclined to use the O:I mat for the O:I missions just for repeatability's sake when teaching new players. I'm sure I saw someone mention getting it laminated on another thread so I might try to find a place that could do that.

Hey Riquende, where is that base from?
I think that is the fusilier that gave me some trouble too. And one of the Antenna on the Mobile Brigada. Attach those before you glue the head in place.
No pictures of unpacking. However a tip. If you want a digital image/file of the Lieutenant Order marker, you can find it in the Beast of War quickstarter rules on the last page. Apparently, we will need those for N3.

@Red Harvest - Appears to be one of the 'landing pad' range of bases from Antenocitis workshop. Looking forward to him expanding the range as I'd love to use the arc markers he's done for his bases but they don't work on the slight angle of standard bevelled bases.

Grabbed Operation Icestorm today at a Wayland Games promotional event, its my first foray into Infinity and Iove the look of the models in it. I also grabbed some paints to do my new project with.
I have some issues though, the first is that the Father Knight wasn't anywhere in the box, which I could probably get sorted out I guess but it's a bit of a pain in the ass. The second is that the fluff section is pretty underwhelming at all of 5 pages across the book ; 1 (well actually half a page) for a rough outline summary, two form a wishy washy at best story about a non-stop swearing and insult filled pre-operation meeting between the Nomad forces, while there are two pages worth of short paragraph descriptions for all the factions later in the booklet.
Would have been nice to know a bit more about the PanO and Nomads and maybe some fluff/writing on how the operation actually went down.
59456
Post by: Riquende
There's also the fluff text next to pictures of every model included.
To be honest, the Icestorm booklet contains as much fluff as I'd expect from a quickstart 'intro' publication. As I understand it, the main rulebooks usually contain lots, lots more, and don't forget you can click on any unit in the Infinity model catalogue and it'll give you a short summation of the unit's capabilities and history.
34242
Post by: -Loki-
The fluff is in the rulebooks. What you got was a Quickstart guide. Just like the rules are very brief to introduce you to the game, so to is the fluff. If you want the full fluff for the game, buy the 3rd edition rulebook, Human Sphere and Paradiso. This will also get you all of the rules, army lists, weapon and unit profiles, etc. So sort of win-win. If you go the equally viable route of downloading the free rules from the Infinity website, however, you won't get the fluff.

So I've gotten mine, built it and taken it to a local club day.
Absolutely gorgeous models, very good amount of fluff and art for what it is. Decent terrain/mat and a nice little shout out to their partners making better stuff, good little bit about moving forwards.
It got some people interested and really that's the biggest part.
10/10, best starter I've ever held.

I was told about two weeks ago by miniature market that CB had just shipped their order & they expected to start shipping in "a couple weeks" however just this past week I got an email from CB saying that retail orders were just shipping that day so who knows.

Talked to them today, they are 2 miles from my house , they still have not recieved their shipment "it's in transit ", no expected date.
I just ordered mine yesterday from thewarstore.com, I hadn't ordered yet, and wasn't because I couldn't get the csu figure because of no preorder (I was out of funds and still on the fence about getting into infinity), but Neil had a limited supply WITH the csu figure coming in and I snatched the last one. But his are stuck in customs being inspected for safety , maybe the shipment us in the same container as the one for miniaturemarket.com

Picked my copy up from Tabletop Nation the other week, and have put together the basic soldiers used in mission 1.
Really lovely figures, and the set as a whole has a great retro feel for me – it's nice to have a boxed set that requires a bit of work to get going (like 40k 3rd). I've put some thoughts on the box on my blog, Death of a Rubricist, and will be working through the models there, too; starting with the Fusiliers and Alguaciles.

ok guys, I need some help please.
I tried assembling the first of my fusiliers and have either forgotten how to work with metal miniatures or my fingers have simply gotten fatter... either is a very real possibility.
do you have any tips on putting these guys together... they are so tiny... ugh!
I use a gel super glue and tried pinning but every time that I think the glue is set I pick it up for it to just fall off. maybe I need some kicker?

Post by: Red_Starrise
I've found that gel doesn't work too well for metal because of curing time & the weight of the parts. Rather I use a brush on loctite & sand/file both contact points to rough it up & give better adhesion. Automatically Appended Next Post: Just got my tracking # today. Woot!

I highly recommend zap a gap. It's probably the best super glue I've worked with. Half the time I just glue my metal models together with it and don't pin. It holds well.

I just used gel superglue too and it was ok. I prefer gel to liquid. You can also try scoring the surfaces of your minis maybe.

Post by: chromedog
I just roughen up the surfaces (if they are flat) to increase surface area for the bond.
Otherwise, a little GS in the joint with the glue and it's got a little shock absorber as well.
34906
Post by: Pacific
Are you using a very thin superglue?
I use a medium or thick (either Roket or Zzzaap works well), very occasionally (as chromedog has mentioned above) you may have to use Greenstuff - although you probably shouldn't have to use that with the I:O miniatures, they are a pretty neat fit.

I just unpacked and assembled my Mototronica scenery pack, it's quite nice. For $11.19 on miniature market I may well get another set. Really helps to have the infinity unit boxes to strengthen the buildings, or just put something in there. http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-70053-43580_Infinity-icestorm.html Gallery if interested. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/1590/508854.page#7276516 Blog update with commentary, if interested. I tend to use dollar store glue on my infinity models, no problems so far. I haven't pinned a model in years and don't plan to start again if I can help it. We'll see how that mentality works out Re: TAGS. I also tend to put bluetack into any large gaps, texture it if necessary to match the surrounding surfaces, and slather it with glue. I let the glue cure and often go in again. Actually... I do that with virtually all of my joins. I get just barely enough glue in place to make the join solid, then after that's dry/cured I go back and deploy a bit more glue into the join. Doesn't matter if it's plastic or restic or metal, that's what I usually do and it tends to work. Sometimes I put a teeny bit of bluetack within a join to help me hold it in place for the glue to set, or possibly to alter the position a tad. It makes the join a bit weaker overall but if the bit breaks down the road it's really easy to stick back into place cause of the leftover bluetack.
46305
Post by: Red_Starrise
I use greenstuff just like that frequently. I prefer it over blu-tac because it cures & basically becomes plastic.

Ergh, I had almost forgotten how much I hate super glue. After about an hour of fiddly arms falling off, I decided to just buy (yet another) new bottle of glue. Problem solved. New problem: tiny arms now sticking to my fingers instead of where the are supposed to. Grrr.
34242
Post by: -Loki-
Buy thicker glue? Sounds like you've got super thin stuff. Try medium or even gel.
72556
Post by: Red Harvest
Loctite gel works for me, but it does sometimes take longer to dry.
11776
Post by: Vertrucio
Zip kicker is your friend, and contrary to popular belief, does not weaken the glue.
I use a toothpick to apply both glue and kicker to opposite ends of small joints, that avoids the mess of spraying or dripping kicker while trying to hold fiddly bits together.
46305
Post by: Red_Starrise
Or you can apply your super glue to both parts then put a tiny amount of pva glue on the peg side & put it together. The pva should hyper accelerate the super glue.

Thanks for the info, man. My irritation level is up as well. I sent another, less polite, e-mail this afternoon asking them to clarify exactly how this is occurring.
Instant edit: As I typed the above, MM responded to my query. Apparently they received a small shipment last week. Their large, main, shipment was held for an increased time due to it's size. They claim it is on the way(to their warehouse).
A reassuring update or a comforting lie? This, I suppose, we'll find out. *crosses fingers/kicks dog*

No need to feel lucky, I reckon...I imagine y'all ordered before myself and others is all. That is as it should be. My complaint, fwiw, is a lack of clear communication that the shipment from last week wouldn't cover my order. Maybe they didn't have the numbers then, but a subsequent count and shout out pro actively earlier this week would have been nice. It's not enough to get my panties* in a wad, but it is a tad vexing.
To those who recently received I:O, enjoy!

They won't run out. If you pre ordered in the correct time frame, you get the CSU pre order model. If you pre ordered in the correct time frame and did not get one, contact Corvus Belli. A right merry path to hell is paved with speculations, but I'll posit it just means they haven't bothered to amend the listing. If CB is still churning out preorders, I imagine there is no real rush to update an out of stock item from 'preorder' to plain 'regular'.
I have also noticed an occasional +1 to their stock total in recent days only for it to drop back to out of stock. Canceled orders, I suppose. If I feel, in a week's time, that they have been spoonfeeding me a load of bunk, that listing will again get a +1. (Barring improved communications on their end).

I've gone through my box and a) it's the pre-order version, with yellow stick (and more important, the model!), and b) Daaaaaayum, what a starter!
It may not have as many models as, for example, the GW two player starters I remember, but it's so complete. Seriously, two balanced forces, terrain, a game field that is designed to make setting up the terrain easy, a step-by-step into book... amazing!
Seriously, the only thing missing to actually start playing is... glue? It may not be a fair comparison, but in my head I keep flashing back to the Warhammer fantasy High Elves/Skaven starter that... didn't include rules to actually play the models in the box.

I've not had any issues with MM orders in the past, but the only other pre-order I've made is for Descent 2.0, which did not have any production issues to delay things. MM has responded to my two inquiries into I: OS delivery, but their responses haven't been very informative. That right there is some weapons grade BS. Why send a partial order? (I assume you had a 'all items ordered with preorders will wait to ship together' notice)? And, no lie, as I prepared to quote you here, I received shipping confirmation from MM. My order is only O:I, so they aren't doing me raw like you. (My apologies/condolences). I'm supposedly getting a tracking number later from the shipping company, BTW. This is getting strange...

The trials...the tribulations...
If they would only update the page/email us/Facebook something something...well. We may be the victims of our own doing, if only because we went with the scant information we fed each other? Of course, this could have gone smother if MM gave us the straight dope, I.e. message 1: "O:I will be shipped tommorow!" message 2: "Gah. Customs hit us...we expect a small portion, and will mail those post haste to those who ordered first". message 3: All remaining Icestorm copies are now in. All customers who have yet to receive theirs, watch your emails for shipping notices." Etc. Etc.
I sincerely hope my confirmation means ALL copies are now being sent. Anyone left holding the bag, particularly if they ordered early, I believe have right to raise Cain otherwise.
Edit: Delivery slated for Monday. It's gonna be a loooong weekend.

Warsmith, I ordered exactly a month before you & mine didn't ship til a week ago Mon so that's not much lag time difference for a month apart I suppose. Considering how many orders must have been placed between those two dates. Though I too got annoyed at MM when I asked them when they anticipated having it & their response was "oh or order just left CB yesterday" a week & a half later CB responded to the very same Q more or less stating they were just shipping out to distributors & retailers that day. It really gave me a 'WTF?' moment.

So I sent another inquiry in today, mentioning that some folks who submitted their order after mine had announced that they had received their OI already. About 30 minutes later, I got a shipping notice.
My order had been flagged as having multiple pre-orders for some reason, even though the only two items in it were I:OI and a Descent 2.0 Lieutenant pack, which according to MM's inventory they've had in stock the entire time my order has been with them.
I'm glad to finally be getting my stuff, but I do think I'll complain a bit about this order. AFTER I have my new shinies in hand, of course.

Glad to hear of the progress for y'all. I find it a tad head scratchy that MM currently lists 20+ O:I boxes available, but I guess they were concurrently shipped (non CSU?) boxes not available to pre purchase?
Oh wonderful...I've developed trust issues I see. I'll be checking to ensure I get the CSU now for sure.
...what a production. :(

My one and only infinity model until today! Teutonic knight on one of the larger buildings. I emptied one box and inserted it for structural integrity.. I glued and taped it inside as well! I was slated for a Monday delivery but got a pleasant surprise with my package today. Not gonna argue that! I'm busy licking the figures now, making them mine. (They taste like my crib did, back in the day).
I'm jealous of your paint skills, BTW, because you have some. Good job on the ka-nig-it!

Very, very nice Warsmith262! Think it's very easy to not do grey well and make the miniature look flat, but I think you've pulled it off perfectly.

I always feel I could do better. I'm very critical of my painting.

I wish I had the option to walk into mini market and get my stuff.. but as much as I harassed them this past month they probably would have banned me from entry

Decided to work on my PanO. I didn't want to go the route of hey look they're blue so they should be blue. I did the beret blue on them as a nod towards the Blue heavy theme Of PanO (now they look like Scifi U.N. Lol). I still have some facial details to do but that'll get done soon. Those look awesome. I wish I had the guts to go non-blue. I'd like to paint them them black, like the COG in Gears of War, but that would destroy the whole Red team Vs Blue team scenario. Red Vs Black just doesn't have the same ring to it.

I originally planned on going with a darker green and with a camp pattern. I started painting them and thats what it turned into

Just picked up Operation Icestorm from Wayland after originally cancelling my pre-order due to delays and happy to say I got the pre-order version with the CSU. Ordered on Saturday and delivered on Monday so very impressed with delivery speed.
Minis are absolutely fantastic. Go together really well, look amazing, and can't wait to paint them. If only I had people to play against...

Again...niiice! I like your color choices. My Shock Army is dingy septic tank dipped OD so my O:I Pano are stuck the same. I think I'll try giving my 'dirty' Nomads a clean look like you've captured here with your Fusiliers. Doubt I can hold a brush to your work, though. No kidding! I am visually impaired and was so proud of my Kirpal Singh's face...until my wife asked me why I painted his eyes on his forehead.

OOOOOOO purple Nomads! I may have to steal that!! I have been considering doing them burnt orange and black Automatically Appended Next Post: Thank you very much Rusty Trombone! Eyes.. for me its eyes I hate to paint. I did a Malifaux crew for a commission. the new plastics are so damned tiny but the client was vert much firm about eyes needing to be painted.. talk about pain in the rear.. if I can't see a visibly molded eye on the mini they don't get painted lol

How'd you do the hacker holo-screen thingy?
46305
Post by: Red_Starrise
My fiancée doesn't really paint, she tried but it just frustrated her too much. She does play pretty much anything & everything with me & kicks my ass quite often lol. Guess I taught her too well.
Historian -
The holo screen was a piece of blister plastic cut out. I then scratched the general shapes into it with a hobby knife & used thinned paint to go over them, I hit the whole thing with a super thin mix of gold & metallic blue to give it a shimmer. I tried to make the blue for the holo lighter on the edges and darker in the center.
The pink edging on the hackers was intended to tie them in with the fast pandas.

Finally - FINALLY - got a shipping notice for the O:I I ordered from the Warstore at the end of September. Not exactly sure what the hold up was (Neal said they were stuck waiting for CB to get in some new sets of dice, but not sure I totally buy that) but I'm very eager to crack that box open on Monday/Tuesday/whenever it shows up.

My FLGS ordered one for me in Late August/Early September. (pretty much as soon as the preorders opened)
And due to supplier issues and UPS fun I am still waiting on it.
It has become a game of the daily call:
"UPS check?"
"Nope! Not seen it yet!"
*small curse*
"Me too, this is killing me."
