Messing around with a few weapon types on Monster Hunter to see what others I can use, the Great Sword is starting to bore me a bit.

I also had another more recent go at it and had a ton of guys but fewer available heavies which as usual proves to be a death sentence. I may need rapid recovery and the will boosts or something (3-4 guys panicking happens often enough that i need to make sure it doesn't happen). That or adaptive bone marrow early or something to speed up recovery times.
Man, now I got to get XCOM out again. Not impossible ironman though; I do not have those skills.
Lately i'm wondering if even i do at 1,000 hours of play time with all xcom: enemy unknown and enemy within games combined.
The farthest i have been getting on impossible ironman is up to the french convoy ambush mission and the best i did was killed all but one thin man. There's about 8 just in the beginning before you get to the raider survivor and then about another 8 thin men on the way back as well as a sectoid. I've been doing this with a max of 5 guys and only ballistic weapons on month 2 so i get close but i can never kill every one.
Perhaps i should go scientists first this time. Normally i do an engineer first approach but i don't seem to survive long enough to use em.

Just watched Knights of Badassdom on Netflix. Pretty good flick and got me in the mood for some hack n' slash, so i'm replaying Dark Souls 2.
While not my favorite in the series (DS 1 for sure), it is a step up from the S&M fest that was Demon's Soul.

Played xcom enemy within for hours until daylight broke out. I still can't beat impossible ironman or get even close. The farthest i get is around the bit with the french convoy. At one point i won but was so depleted of guys i lost anyway. Oh and i lost the convoy raider in that mission at the very last guy.
I'm trying to go for double scientist abduction rewards so i get a total of 8 more scientists to add to the original 5 (so 13). I plan to get my engineers through throwing up a satellite over a country with an engineer per month reward. Hopefully everything works out.
Currently this game is just really obnoxious :(.
I think the death sentence this time was once again no heavies. It's totally random who gets what class and if all your heavies get injured or killed there's nothing you can do. It sucks that i don't even want my heavies to participate much after i use their rockets now as one wound means they're in med-bay for 9 days on average and i may get unlucky with another hard mission right away.
Btw am i the only one that feels like they increased research times for laser weapons and carapace armor or have i just not played xcom in forever?

Ugh so i lost another go of xcom enemy within on impossible ironman. Closest to successful run yet. I barely lost the french convoy mission by one last thin man killing my last guy. I also messed up several other missions (the council mission where you board the train i lost by one turn even though i activated all 4 relays and went to the last panel) but against everything and nations panicking i would've held on till i made the most embarrassing mistake ever. I forgot to leave enough elerium to make the skeleton key. Sadly the next ship to come by later was a supply ship i think and that just owned me as i didn't have the proper aircraft for the job. At that point i was just hoping i'd do ok. I had 3 satellites up but 4 countries or more panicking just meant one last one was needed to take me out of the game. I even beat an exalt mission and the last abduction mission of the month as well as a terror mission. So basically i was still in the game with the exception of a simple but critical error. Sadly it was the last one i could make.
I'm gonna see if i can do another run but it's late and i should sleep. I've been sleep deprived big time for a while now and it's not good for me.

After having moved recently my PS3 is temporarily unavailable, so I'm looking at my PS2 gaming options. Gihren's Greed is fun, but the frustration can really build quick and I like to take a break from it so as not to gouge out my eyes in gamer rage. Just not sure what to play in it's stead... I have been pondering another run through of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, but playing that game is a serious commitment. It devours hours of your time every time you turn it on.

After another batch of bad impossible ironman runs in xcom: enemy within that went nowhere (and left me seething with rage till i took a break) i managed to get another group all the way to the french convoy mission. So far things are going really well and i have 2 heavy lieutenants, a sniper sergeant, a squaddie support and squaddie assault (if i recall those last two correctly).
The rocket guys should help make things easier. My last abduction mission of the first month with just 4 guys and the 2 heavies really helped against the sectoids to a ridiculous degree.
Anyway this french convoy mission will be the moment of truth but sadly i must wait till tomorrow as i have work in the morning and it's already very late.
The combo i used in the first council mission was very effective. I had my sniper shooting at range and picking off a sectoid per turn and then having my heavily armored (for 1st month) warriors go into hunker down and increase cover by a lot. I may use this some more provided i can get some good shots with my sniper. Then again in month two those thin men and floaters really hit hard.

The train boarding mission in china is also a real hard one esp. since the downed battleship is right after if i recall.
Update: Ok so big news! Nobody died, nobody was injured and the mission was successful so completely it wasn't even funny. Also i got 4 of my guys promoted. The mission's name was 'purple throne' which sounds strangely sexual.

Finished up AC: Black Flag. I've got 100% chests, maps, bottles, buried treasure, contracts, etc. Basically everything but some challenges, suits/boat cosmetic upgrades, and the 100% mission side objectives. I don't think I'll be going 100%, the aggravation on a few missions doesn't seem worth it.
I started AC: Unity, but I'm having a hard time connecting to the setting. I may be suffering from Pirate withdrawal. The game is definitely glitchy, and I'm not in love with the new free running/combat controls, but it's not without merit. Having four players do a mission over Xbox Live is pretty awesome, as everyone was specialized for something specific.
I'll have to give it more time. Though I do enjoy the crime scene investigation side missions.

Ok so after lots of craziness and what felt like 3-4 missions one after the other (including retrieving the battleship intact with zhang) and losing a couple vets i managed to have a very good stable run. I ended may with a fully decked squad in carapace armor, double items, almost all the officer school abilities completed, all possible missions completed with one abductor getting away sadly and a crowing achievement of eliminating the alien base. I have lost 6 council nations so far but i have so many upcoming satellites that just about every nation should be covered by next month. Not bad considering i've been doing all this with just 2 satellites on countries.
So yeah everything's been working out in xcom: enemy within. I took a break because i'm hungry and haven't stopped playing since i last posted.

Doing great with xcom: enemy within on impossible ironman. I finished the french psychic girl's missions and have done all of zhang's missions. At this point i'm dealing with abductors but i have full carapace armor, some plasma weapons (including a plasma sniper, plasma rifles, plasma pistols and light plasma rifles). I now have ammo conservation and plenty of other things. All the remaining countries have been covered by satellites. I'm handling exalt ok and they only have laser weapons. I have so many labs right now even a blaster launcher would only take between 5-8 days to research. All of the officer training school things are researched, most foundry options available are done and my B team is pretty much fully genetically modified. I will use them while i start to genetically modify my A team.

The game's art style is pre-determined by the lore it's based on, i.e. the Kain series, and it perfectly captures said imagery. Whether you like it nor not only matters to you, as with every personal opinion.

The trick in finding things is to talk to people in a mead hall, and ask them to give you directions. It's... a pain, compared to the old version, because you have to ask for directions to each cave and labyrinth and lair separately, but it works!
And the fun thing it also does is it marks those locations on the map in fortress mode, which is the main reason I'm doing it. Gonna start a fort on top of a minotaur's labyrith.

So xcom enemy within is going great. Game is basically in the bag at this point. A ton of colonel level soldiers and some spares in case something happens. Only bad thing that happened is my support got killed off. Other than that things have been going well. I even have two blaster launchers now, 4 firestorms and pretty much everything. My main squad is also almost completely genetically modified so that's great too. Oh and i recovered the ethereal device so i'm basically near the end of the game. I had to face a battleship with one of the firestorms and it destroyed the battleship (though it took a lot of damage) and i basically beat that mission without any squad deaths.
So yeah for the most part within the last 2-3 game months of the game i haven't had any serious problems. I mean i did have the 4 sectopod terror mission which took out 3 of my guys but only one was a colonel (support colonel) and while it sucked i got back on my feet (even if a lost support is a big deal).

The Eastern Roman Empire has been wiped out at last after a series of extremly bloody battels in Tracia and on Crete, now I am facing of against an allaince of Goths, various smaller kingdoms and the Roman seperatists of the west. Having lost three full armies of very experienced men and cavalry, so therefor I have had to redeploy fresh armies from the east to face these new foes. Hopefully my remaing two armies in Tracia can hold back the tide until reinforcements arrive

Way back, last time I played it the Type 88 seemed to have the best mix of "stats" As in, it was decently accurate enough, with plenty of rounds per second (speed), and it had a pretty large ammo capacity. With all the bells and whistles that can be added on, it makes for a fairly good platform for shootin' up stuff

Started back in on Agarest: Generations of War. Recently got to the third generation. Screwed up my G3 main character.. or well.... I dunno if screwed up is right, I piked the G2 MC's wife such that the G3 MC would be a certain way... and when I got to him it wasn't quite what I was expecting. I think since it's just 1 out of 6 characters I'll get by though. Definitely not going back on my save and regrinding the things that have been done since. The special attacks continue to be interesting, and I recently managed to have 3 of my characters perform an attack so auspicious that it deserved it's own mini cut-scene. And this was back on tier 2. Even though you lose the MC and a trio of female characters from each generation, the overall party size has continued to grow as most NPCs that join the party, never leave. Add to this the fact that you can get mannequins that function in battle exactly like the missing characters (have to find an item and they're expensive as all hell), and there's really quite a vast selection of heroes. I shall, of course, make a 5-generation MC hero party in the last generation, at least to see them all in action at once

It was 10pm last night and I decided to play Dwarf Fortress. I started building a fort in a mountain without any access to a water source nor cave soil to grow crops in. Eventually, I went to a forum asking for tips. After mentioning a dog farm as a food source (just roll with it), another person mentioned turning dogs into alcohol as a joke. I somehow thought this would work and spent the entire next day today trying to find out how I could turn dogs into alcohol.

I've been breeding a lot of Pokemon XD Especially with the recent releases of the Gen II and Gen V starters with Hidden Abilities via Mystery Gift/PokeBank, I've been pretty absorbed in chucking out mon with good IV's and egg moves. Being my favorite starter period Sheer Force Feraligator with Dragon Dance and Jolly was at the top of the list EDIT: Though I'm almost as excited about a Contrary Serperior.

I've been playing command and conquer 3 tiberium wars. I have to say it is quite a fun game. I prefer nod in this one. It's more about finesse than brute force and some of the tactics are more exotic or weird. That's not to say you can't spam militia or fanatics though. I'd almost say fanatics are OP but considering the ridiculousness of the mammoth tank late game with railguns i'd reconsider. I feel like nod's best counter to that is obelisk spam with plenty of laser artillery.
It's too bad most command and conquer games ended in a top tier unit that just eliminated everything by itself. Either that or spamming the same unit and having absolutely no diverse unit combos. Talk about lame.
Man i'm so glad rts's have changed to what dawn of war did and the 'wargame' series. Oh and rest in peace THQ. Lord knows it'll take forever before relic releases another dawn of war game for 40k or we get another company of heroes game.

I think the key thing is that it doesn't take itself seriously, but then has a storyline that it treats with respect. So you've got this really interesting plot, all wrapped up in ridiculous dual-assault-rifle-wielding mayhem. And that's great. Just... great.

Another successful war in Clash of Clans! With the war loot was able to convert 4 more wall pieces from pink to purple. Aside from walls I'm also working on upgrading my Dark Elixir troops. Anything that needs regular Elixir is upgraded. Anything that needs gold (other than walls) is upgraded. This is for Town House 8.
Also put in some more time in Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online. I had an interesting experience today. Usually Sean is my first opponent... this time it was Yang... or Yun... one of them.
About to bust out the space ninja grind that is Warframe. Then maybe some Bastion after that.

Are you sure you shouldn't feel sorry for the man? Pretty sure he's about to spend a lot of time in either a dungeon or will be executed.
Also, is the child a leper? Because that would be some nice icing on the cake.

Well, they're both having affairs. And they both have children with their lovers, as well as two legitimate children. So they probably deserve each other.

Started up on "Elite: Dangerous".
Initial thoughts are rather mixed. It's a digital download at the moment - I didn't fancy paying the extra £10 for boxed product and waiting for that to be delivered. As a modern version of "Elite" it's good, some of the ship designs are really close to the original wireframe ones, but the graphics are certainly up amongst the best there are today, it's the first game to tax my rig in that regard.
Bought it because I had found out that it had a "Solo" setting, so thought that I could get it, and still play it when I go home (No internet whe I do, my 85yo mother doesn't need it, so we don't pay for it just to cover me for the odd week I go home.) but no. Even the solo mode requires internet access. That's because it is not run from servers, it's a P2P network, so if you can't join, all the markets and different docks are unavailable to you. (WTF?)
And the station they start you in has no market anyway, so the first thing you have to do is launch, fly to another station and buy some stuff to take elsewhere and trade to make a profit. I got ganked by an NPC in solo mode during that journey. This bigger ship makes me drop out of jump and demands I drop my cargo or I'm dead. Well, guess what!
At least if that happens and you don't have another ship, you get the basic Sidewinder replaced, so no real biggie.
The basic Sidewinder has a starting gargo capacity of 4 (units, tonnes, I don't know) but by going to an outfitters when you have made some cash, you can expand that. By removing the shield generators, and getting the biggest cargo racks I could, I got mine up to 10. By using the old fashioned "Pen and Paper" system of working out what was profitable, within the last two afternoons, I have made enough to upgrade to the Hauler, which if I did the same as the Sidewinder, would have 22 cargo capacity. I am running with 20 as I also bought and installed a docking computer
Overall, I think the game is great, but to get the most out of it, I'm sure glad I watched a series of vids from a guy calling himself "NetherVvoid" on Youtube. They really helped me out.

I downloaded planetside 2 because it looked cool and it was free. I've played a few hours, died a lot, and had quite a bit of fun. It seems to have some "pay to advance for free" things, but it doesn't seem to actually be P2W. And the way it works means I get into games much easier than I can in BF4. And I do like my sci fi.
I did notice something interesting though, it has a built in FPS thing at the bottom of the screen. It averaged at about 15, and the fact that I noticed no difference between it and other games, means I might want to upgrade by laptop.

PS2 *can* be really fun. I think the only things you can buy that you can't earn are special silver/golden versions of the guns, and maybe some camo/decals.
New items will only be immediately available to players who buy them, or who have been hoarding their certs, however. Like when they came out with the crossbow secondary to compliment the changes to one of the sniper/recon/i-forget-what-they-call-them active camo abilities... you'd have to buy or earn one, and people with money had them first. But doesn't mean someone couldn't get one after grinding or have saved points.
Spending money also helps to make your vehicle of choice much more effective much quicker. You have to spend certs to upgrade your proficiencies and weapons and vehicle weapons, can't spend money for that... but some of the guns for the tanks, planes, ATVs, and the party bus are *much* better than the stock weapons.
Like a mosquito with stock nose gun and the extra engine pods will probably get demolished by someone with the A2A missiles which, if you're just starting, are miles away.
Fun game though.

Went and watched that video. The basic premise is the exact same thing I did, except sub zero has the freezing bonus and can combo Khan on the ground. But the entire fight in that video involves leaping over him and hitting him in the back: only with ice and combo instead of uppercut. It's the most monotonous fight ever. Any time he tries to break from that norm, he takes a rising shoulder or hammer to the face.

Post by: GrimDork
Dying is easy, especially if you're spawning at a base under heavy siege or from a sunderer that's really close to the action.
What class are you playing? Heavy was always popular when I played but I usually spent a lot of time between engineer and infiltrator cause snowflake Medic is pretty awesome too. It's a lot better with 4-5 levels pumped into the medic gun thing, but they get the second best class of gun--assault rifles. They tend to have a range/damage boost over carbines, though they aren't quite up there with HMGs. The medic's AOE heal is pretty useful too, it's kind of like the heavy's overshield but you can share it. Plus when you are a n00b with bad gear, battle rezzing the skilled and geared players around you is the most help you can give

Co'tor Shas wrote:Been switching between heavy and combat medic depending on the situation.
Medic is probably best for early leveling. Get the res grenades and you can make a bunch of certs especially during large battles. The key to playing that game as cheap as possible is to pick one or two things and only do those things. If you try to spread your certs out amongst all the classes and vehicles you will take forever to max anything. Make use of the VR training to check out guns you might want and grind for them. Optics are also cheap cert wise and can do a lot for you - there are generally a bunch of different options nowadays so once again, check 'em out in the VR training and see what you like. Pick a playstyle and practice, and look for a decent outfit because attacking a base with 40-50 dudes is where the game really starts to shine.

Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm or both. I've never been much of a zerg fan myself. I am really looking forward to the protoss campaign whenever that happens. Protoss in my mind were the best faction in Wings of Liberty at least. In Heart of the Swarm terran may have appealed to me more but i'm unsure. I used to like terran in the original. I just can't get behind zerg though. It just seems all weird to me in comparison to the other 2 factions. That said i'm getting more used to it.

I picked up Hotline Miami 2 and had a run through it. Phew, its the first one and more. Plot everywhere, which is great ...if you're into its style. Doing away with the masks I'm not entirely sure about, but they replaced it with multiple characters and more unique play styles for each (forcing you to adapt to these at certain points varied between a right bugger and an interesting variation). I'll say its definitely harder than the first.
That second last level (for those who've played it, I'm meaning before the trippy gak) was a nightmare ...perhaps self enforced due to not electing to use any weapons but the character's fists. A hundred attempts later and I was moving through the last floor on some sort of meticulous path. One screw up and I was dead, particularly difficult given that I kept thinking to myself how much easier it would have been if I could just shoot some of the guys.
So a great step up in the series, and I'd love to see more. Though, heh, that ending. I like the plot and setting, but I don't know where they could take it, and I'm not sure if they should. Seeing more games from the developers with similar themes would be cool at least.

Haha, just wait till you're on at a weird time and nobody else is heavily attacking anything, or even just wanting a bit of a casual mission for yourself. Pick your faction fighter, fly around to a base well within enemy territory as an infiltrator. Make sure the cannons are alive. Hack one defense gun, the high explosive ground defense variety. Swivel it till you can blow up several other guns within its LOS, leave it, and find another cannon further down the perimeter to repeat the action You can also cap the objectives but do that last since it sends warning messages to the faction.

Playing Skyrim, with the Live Another Life mod (an alternate game start, so you don't have to go thruogh the Helgen bit) and have been enjoying it. Starting in different areas has breathed a lot of life into my latest batch of characters. I had one character start with "I was attacked in the wilderness and left for dead" as an origin... I woke up in an unfriendly neighborhood in the Reach with no weapons and no gear (and no spells) and had to outrun ALL the wolves. Now that character wears armor made from wolves, because revenge.
I had a necromancer start off in "A secluded lair", which turned out to be FETHING BLACKREACH. Yes, let's all try Blackreach at level one as a dedicated caster class... I'm amazed I got out of there alive.

Anybody got any recommendations for good hi-def texture packs? I'd like a good overall one, if possible- water effects and stuff are less critical.
On PS2- There are some battles which can last for days. Things get crazy, but yeah, definitely find/shanghai some buddies to play as a dedicated squad of specialists. There's awesome that can happen with training and teamwork.

Have neither of you discovered the joy of sniping with the engineer's rocket turret? I dunno if it's still as awesome as it was when I was playing, but you get a bucket or two of XP for each sunderer you blow up and I think it did the job in 4-5 hits. Could scare off tanks, take pot shots at hovering or landed fighters...
It was also easier to snipe with than my sniper's rifle too You had to get a direct hit on a dot, or be engaging a dot who was exposed and away from cover.... but tee hee... that was so fun.
Also... get a flash and the fury, I had upgrades on my flash and gun but its fine w/o, and find a big pitched battle. Drive around till you're sitting perpendicular to the main battle lines. Drive along until you're across from the enemy lines, proceed to drive through the enemy positions at full tilt trying to hit as many people as possible. You'll get some kills and confuse the crap out of them If you are good at shooting while you drive you can cover your approach with a curtain of grenade explosions though it makes you a bit more obvious.
The infiltrator can use the wraith module or w/e to make a stealthier approach too, and with the rumble seat, you can have an engineer riding along on the stealth wraith dropping C4 in front of tanks
I never got to try that last one, and all of these things are months old so who knows if they got patched

That's one of my favorite mods, by far. I remember trying the necromancer one for the first time. Now, I had never been to Blackreach before, so my reaction went from "Oh wow, this place is amazing" to "Oh god oh god everything is going to kill me" in about ten seconds. And it was still fun.

To be fair, that's basically what 'skilled' combat amounts to in MK. Even as a person who doesn't play many fighting games, I can tell that it has pretty limited combat, especially with so few 'special' moves per character.

Still addicted to World of Warships. I'm now attempting to get the Rank VI Battleship, the Fuso.
It feels so damn good to instantly destroy a destroyer. Or even destroy them without using the main guns, the secondary armaments are strong enough to do it
But I hate carriers with the fury of a 1000 burning suns.

It has similarities but it's a isometric strategy game not a fps. Closer to a mix of jagged alliance and rainbow six than anything else.

I've been playing a lot of Rayman Legends since it's been free on the XBone. I've got to say that I've never played a more beautiful, fun, or pleasing platformer. It's as much of a sensory experience as it is a game, with such great visuals, music and sound effects.

Oh yes, I'm in heaven.

Agarest still... 4th generation. MC is a douche. Sunk over 100 hours into this game, though some of that is bloat from idle time where I've left it running in the background. Just some of it though, pretty sure I never left it on all night unattended. Still got 20-30% to go probably. Still entertaining. Conventional weaponry is catching slowly up to the DLC stuff I started with giving me some more options as far as party choice.
Bought the prequel too, as 75% off steam sale (yay steam for emailing you when wishlist items are on sale!), but I'm not touching that till this is done.
Probably will need some kind of palate cleanse too before diving right back in.

I have picked up BFME2 again and damn, this game is actually good.
Aside from generally being fun, there is something about masses of Uruk-hai that speaks to me deep down in my soul.
Hundreds upon hundreds of heavily armoured and armed warriors that manage to be disciplined and savage at the same time, chanting and roaring and waving their weapons. They also feel elite somehow, even though they are so expendable (they cost as much as elves or dwarves, but they have no healing at all).

There is a small minority of BG/IWD fans who hate Pillars. They generally fall into the camp of "Why did you change the stats/system into a configuration explicitly designed for computer games instead of leaving it as a poor bastardization of pen and paper rules shoehorned into a computer gaming format because that is what I loved about BG/IWD, and now that things have changed even slightly this is a betrayal and the worst thing ever because I am a curmudgeon and even though it was the story, characters and atmosphere that made those games that I loved great, I will now commence hating this game - even though it has those things - because you had the audacity to change anything even slightly and by no means will I take the time to play and/or learn the mechanics before I immediately start crapping all over it for being bad, overly simplified, tactically bereft and/or dumbed down before I reach level 3; because why wouldn't I? And you are all monsters for enjoying this game."
So unless you fit into that demographic you ought to love the game.

Ok, I finally got to play a bit of Pillars of Eternity.
There's definitely a IWD/BG feel to the presentation, which gave me an instant hit of nostalgia.
I still would like to see a fantasy game that not only does not have elves or dwarfs, but does not even have anything resembling them. But that's not a criticism, just a general thought.

I'd just like to see a fantasy game where the entire focus is from the Orc's point of view. Not like Elder Scrolls games, where Orcs are just another part of the whole empire, but one where you're part of an Orcish tribe, fighting off villainous Elves and Mans and Dwurfs and stuff.

Is there even another way to say "oh my"?
It always pleases me greatly when one of the other factions in Beyond Earth actually gets it together long enough to attack me.
This time, it was Brasilia. He had a massive army, and I'd been neglecting my military as usual, so it was even a close thing for a couple of turns! Since I was not neglecting my economy or research, however, that changed.
And after I burned his cities and forced him into a humiliating peace, he asked if I wanted to renew our old open borders agreement.

Ah yes, the old turn-based AI "Alright, you got me fair and square. No way I can fight back now. What do you say we put all this behind us, let bygones be bygones, and go back to being pals, eh?" diplomacy. Usually preceding their "Oops, I accidentally besieged your city again; oh how silly of me!" declarations of war, followed by their ruthless destruction when you get fed up enough of it.

Omg total war and Galactic Civilizations 3 (at least in early access) are so guilty of this. At least in Endless Space if things start to spiral downward for the opponent after they attack you they offer you some of their planets permanently in return for not killing them for a period of time.
As far as that xenonauts game i never updated on since the last post i managed to beat it just fine. I had 8 of the 12 soldiers manage to live the temple ship assault, assassinate the alien leader and evac before being overrun by reapers (basically xcom chrysallids). Stupidly i lost one guy due to shotgunning a small power plant without knowing how large it would explode if at all. The super heavy weapon was a lot of fun to use mass destroying reapers where they kept coming out but the ethereal equivalent leader kept terrifying my guys a bit to the extent some couldn't shoot too well. It was rather funny how towards the end all i really had left in the way of weapons was mostly just pistols but they were somewhat effective. I sniped their leader twice to kill him. Funny how they go down fairly easily.
As far as Galactic Civilizations 3 goes i'd say the game is doing much better but for the most part the game is Gal Civ 2 with better graphics honestly. There are new features like a dodge speed combat ability and later on carriers that have interceptors (kind of like the protoss ones in starcraft but these can actually attack as well it seems). I also can't get over how in gal civ 3 if you have much influence at all (which is usually easy) then your influence tends to expand and envelop the A.I. planets which forces them to rebel and join you. Usually this is all you really need to win. Of the 3 games i've played recently influence has won me the game each time even with malevolent factions being so great at warfare the influence just seems to win it in the end. Perhaps i need more computer opponents? I've also found Gal Civ 3 to crash on my computer when i'm about to invade some worlds. Some features in gal civ 2 have yet to be seen as well. For instance i have yet to see spies if they even exist anymore. Perhaps there's another way to see what an enemy planet has on it.
If you really want something visually impressive and great in gameplay then go for Endless Space. The faction abilities are often more extreme than the ones in gal civ 3 as it currently stands. It definitely has a lot of new features in comparison.
----------
I kind of hope gal civ 3 does better. Half of the research is still missing esp. stuff that has to deal with ideology or artifact research. It's kind of like gal civ 2 except with both more and less features. Currently i'm not too impressed after playing 'Endless Space'. Oddly enough i'm addicted though. Anyway it'll probably be a couple months or more when the full version comes out and then i can give a full opinion of it.
A note to all of you to never buy early access ever! It's alpha or beta test level at best.

Project Zomboid, where bringing three hundred bullets with you for a short trip to loot a police station isn't enough... Thinking about it now I must have gone through at least double that after the multiple trips back to my safehouse (all the ammo I had for three different types of pistols and two rilfes). OK that's not really how you're supposed to play the game, but I really wanted to hit up that place's armoury (which wound up giving me about the same number of bullets as I'd used, but also a bunch of higher end gear instead of the civilian grade stuff I was using).
...Yeah that game really needs to hurry about allow for custom gun/clothes sprites anyhow.

Finally got Shadow Of Mordor, and it's pretty bloody epic! Great graphics, combat lifted from Arkham (brilliant) but far more brutal, and the Nemesis system is so engaging. After just a few hours of gameplay, I've already established two or three real archenemies among the Orc ranks. One has a ruined face and metal mask after I chucked him through a fire, another has managed to turn up a few times when I was near dead from other attacks, so levelled quickly without actually doing much, which is annoying!
Yes, it craps all over the LotR lore to an extent even I don't like, but I'm willing to overlook that for the gameplay. Killing Orcs has never been more fun!

I haven't really been playing anything recently. My Shotgun playthrough of New Vegas has paused until I can find a list somewhere of the best way to play through the game to not only get an NCR victory, but complete as many quests as possible during it. There are so many quests in NV that, if done at the wrong time, pretty much make it impossible to do others you could have done first, and there are a good few other quests you might never purposefully come across.
The issue is that nobody seems to have compiled such a list. The closest references I have are Many a True Nerd's NV playthroughs, but I'm not a fan of re-watching several tens of 20 minute to 40 or so minute videos just to put together a questing order.
I've also been DotAing a little, but I'm still guff at it, and queueing alone tends to drop more smurfs and random good players against me than people of similar skill (or lack thereof) so I never really improve that much.
I'm considering getting back into WoW (now heirlooms are back in it), or even Path of Exile (the only top-down RPG I actually like).

In all seriousness, besides loving the KanColle character, it was a very happy coincidence how Kongō IS my favorite ship so far: It's a battleship with cannons that manage to give one hell of a fight to both Fusos and Nagatos (and annihilate both cruisers and destroyers, ofc), her AA is top notch for tier V and her speed, oh man, a battleship with 30 knots of speed? Busy levelling my Shadow Priest through Draenor. It's fairly good, moderately laid-back questing, and improves a bit further on the breadcrumb-trail questing from Cataclysm and MoP. MoP especially, didn't particularly like you straying from the quest chains, and there was a lot of running around and going back and forth to complete all the zones, but WoD gives you a hub in each zone early on, and the option to go off and do whichever quest chains you want in whatever order, with nearly all of them ending with you in a position to immediately pick up another. The introduction of 'events' (image GW2's events, and you've pretty much nailed it, except WoW's have been once-per-character as far as I can tell) has made questing a bit more enjoyable, as you can take a short diversion and be rewarded with A LOT of exp (I'd go as far as too say a little too much) for a reasonable amount of effort, but over a small, clearly-defined area. One thing I don't like that MoP started on, are common-as-muck 'rare' mobs. The rares you get in WoD are only rare until your character kills them for the first time, and most of them aren't even true rares. They usually respawn in under half a minute, and don't really mark anywhere of importance; they're just named monsters that drop garrison resources and a rare/'epic' (they might as well be rare; I see no point in them being purple) item. In MoP, they had an actual respawn timer, but there were so many of them that you could do a circuit of an area or two and the first one you kill would have a decent chance of having respawned already. On an empty server, or late at night, you basically had free rare farm. This rare-until-killed system in WoD combats rare-farming, but has added so many of the things that it no longer feels like an achievement to find and kill them. Most of them are weaker than the mods that are around them. Going back to the system of Vanilla-Cataclysm of having a small number of always rare mobs with multiple potential spawns and decently long respawn timers would be infinitely preferable. Aside from that, the only other niggling issue I have is that instance quests are now located whilst questing again. Nobody in PUGs shares quests, so having all (or the majority of) the instance quests able to be picked up inside the instance was a great help, and meant that even when levelling, you'd do each instance at least once so you got the quests done--the quest exp and rewards usually made up for the exp you'd have gotten whilst questing normally. Now there's really no point, and it's back to how it used to be before the Cataclysm overhaul of old content: ignore dungeons completely when levelling, because they just slow you down. Not that I can see it slowing you down massively. I've done 3 dungeons thus far, and still managed to get 8 and 1/3 levels in Draenor over the past 2 nights. The levelling experience is definitely a hell of a lot more different than the hellish slog-fest that MoP's levelling was. I don't actually feel like topping myself when I quest any more.

Playing more Galactic Civilizations 3. It is definitely a thing on normal difficulty where influence can easily win the game with very little influence boosts. It's so potent the other victory types become pointless. Even if i was to disable it 90% or more of the worlds i get would be through influence alone. I may have to increase the difficulty of enemy A.I. but i feel like aside from not knowing how to handle the player's zone of influence and being able to counter they don't do too poorly. That said this is partly because i'm a noob but if i'm not mistaken they seem to have way more crap than they should considering the worlds i take from them. It's the typical cheating A.I. in strategy games with boosted abilities to make up for knowing wtf they're actually doing.
I feel like if you want a real challenge go against human opponents in this game. If you don't the A.I. opponents are rather disappointing so far.

It's a shame they padded the length of that game so much, would've been near perfect if they didn't do that.

Yeah it was Path of Exile for awhile, now it's probably going to be Pillars of Eternity, or well both...
Agarest Generations of War: 5th generation, I need forbidden tome IV so I can get the 4th gen MC back and have my 5-generation hero party I really need another proper character, as usual I was using NPCs that disappear at the end of the generation and now I'm stuck with placeholders till I find new characters I like better.
Loaded up Agarest Zero just to check it out, looks pretty much the same with some graphical updates and menu tweaks... kinda looking forward to it.
May run Valkyria Chronicles sometime too.

Elite: Dangerous.
Warning. Clinical Psychopaths only need apply.
That game is seriously frelled! Thought I would play it safe on solo play before I went out with others. So I got ganked by an NPC on my first flight, he demanded my cargo or my life.
Problem 1. The game starts you in a system that is going through what is a civil war, no matter what you do, you are going to annoy someone and risk a ganking before you have really got your feet in the game.
Problem 2. You start at a station without a market, so you can't buy anything there. You have to fly to another station to buy anything and then on to a third to sell it.
So I had no cargo to drop, and I got ganked by a much larger ship. NO FUN!
And despite being 'solo play', it requires a functioning internet connection because it's actually a P2P network and that means that the prices at the stations are probably stored on someone else's computer! You can't play it off-line whether you want to or not.
Still, I'm going to keep slugging away in solo until I have a decent ship, and have upgraded it completely. Then I'm going to go into the galaxy with everyone else and vanish.
They reckon that people are mapping 12 new systems a minute in the game, but at that rate it'll still take over 150,000 years to map them all. I aim to bring that down a bit once I'm equipped to do so.

Pretty much. I believe even the 'solo play' takes all the information on what has been discovered/what the market prices are from the MMO side of the game, just you don't interact directly with all the other players. Strange that even then their actions affect your market and yours affects theirs. This means that after 2 weeks away, the trade routes I had before, aren't as profitable, which means that I will have to do more of them and risk losing my ship and cargo to an NPC git again. I went from 10K bank balance to owing 1.3K just to get back to having the ship I was in and a 1K loan so I had capital to start buying cargo again.
This is why I am so desperate to get a good ship and go out scanning new systems - minimal chance of being acosted by NPCs OR PK's, and you can sell the scan data.

Got to the point in Shadow of Mordor where I can start minds controlling Orcs. Wasn't sure I'd like/use that aspect at first, but do I? Oh hell yes! Nothing quite like wading in to about 30 Orcs, pulling off a few combos and having half of them on your side. Use them to even the odds, wipe out the enemy, then explode the heads of any of your guys left over! *maniacal laughter*

So, as mentioned a few pages back, I've been doing a "normal difficulty" (read that as: Nintendo Hard) One Year War playthrough on Gihren's Greed 5, as the Earth Federation...
Typically, the game kicks my butt by turn 11 (out of 100). Sometimes I make it as far as turn 15 before I'm forced to conceed I've been out-produced and my tech level is too low.
I don't know what happened. It's turn 36 and I've pushed the Zeon forces completely off of Earth, with nothing more advanced than mass-production Guntanks. I've only recently gotten the GM series unlocked (with a couple handfulls of GM Command Space-type units produced) and haven't had the chance to use them in combat yet. Yeah, I've produced a few Gundams, but they haven't been sent into battle that much. I'm about to launch an attack on Space Fortress Solomon with my first fleet of mobile suits and upgraded capital ships, and it looks like I can have this playthrough wrapped up by turn 50.
I've never done this good before. I mean, even on very easy difficulty, where the game hands you powerful mobile suits at level one and enough resources to mass produce everything in the tech tree a dozen times over, I've never done this good.
I wish I knew what I did, because I'd like to replicate the feat on another scenario (like one of the AEUG sccenarios).

Each one carries an element to the ending. I will state, that the AW campaign has a mech mission which would work well with Flight of the Valkyries if it were sped up. What I liked about the game was the absolute moral ambiguity of the main character; you don't get to find out if you are there to rescue the personnel at Black Mesa or eliminate them. It's your choice.

That's a fun game to.start with but it got repetitive fast for me.
Fight Orcs. Kill Orcs. Get loot and grow more powerful. Brainwash Orcs. Build an army. Kill big bad. Ad nauseam. I played through the vanilla campaign, and the Lord of the Hunt campaign, but then I quickly lost interest in the 2nd big dlc campaign in which you play as Celebrimbor. Didn't really feel like repeating the process a third time.
My biggest issue with the game is that it doesn't add any new lands to explore. I want to.visit Rhun and Khand. Maybe even Harad too. Exploring the same two regions over and over just makes the game feel.stale. At least add new regions of Mordor like Cirith Ungol and Minas Morgul.
I'm now playing Fallout 3 (which I've had for a year but couldnt play due to the multi core processor issue which I've recently fixed) and Atilla Total War.

Here's a question- how often did you die?
Because I think a large part of the fun of that game is in the grudges and personal enmities you can form with recurring Orcs who manage to kill you and 'level up' on the experience, and people (like, surprisingly enough, Jesse Cox) who are good enough at it, or are playing at a lower difficulty level (if there are lower difficulty levels, don't know) than they need to, lose that aspect of the game.

Very good point.
While there is something rather amusing about having all abilities unlocked and just waltzing through Orcs by the dozen, turning half and just slaying the rest, I do miss the early parts of the game where the boss battles were actually a challenge and the bosses themselves could quickly get out of hand and become a real threat. Truly was the Nemesis system aptly named at that point, as I ended up getting into personal grudges against certain Orcs that would just not stay down.
Once I've finished my current play through, I plan on doing one that eschews all but the most essential upgrades, staying as low a 'level' as possible so the challenge remains. Playing as Lithariel also changes things a little, she does more damage but had less armour, so can't take anywhere near as many hits as Talion.
Must admit I'd like to see more of Middle Earth in the game. Udun is cool, Nurn is surprising (who knew Mordor was so temperate?), but I think somewhere like Harad or even Ithillien would change the dynamic of the game a lot.

Spent the weekend on ESO. They were having an event where beta testers could play without buying the core game. So I went back and took a look. They fixed *a lot* of the bugs, added a dye system (yay!) and tied it directly to the achievement system (booo!) and made it run more smoothly (only two crashes to desktop the whole weekend; if only GW2 were that stable). However, it still isn't that pretty to look at (GW2, which I run at a lower graphics setting looks much better, by comparison) and the combat isn't as fun as it is on other games. Only having 5 ability slots on your toolbar is a fething joke, considering how many active abilities you can get in ESO.
I suspect I won't be buying the game, even though it has moved to F2P.

There was a Star Wars game with a much better fleet combat element a while back called Rebellion. Unfortunately, the rest of the game wasn't as good, and it didn't do very well. I don't think it had multi-player, or a skirmish mode, which also didn't help.

Finally bought Dragon Age Inquistion and Im sorry to say I am not very happy with it.
It looks great, but the controls are fething awful. I set aside 4 or 5 hours for playing today and switched it off after 2 because I was fething bored.
The combat seems to basically be "hold the left mouse button down and do nothing else" and the inverntory system is awful. Even looting is annoying because you physically bend over to pick gak up. Levelling is annoying, the UI is confusing and clunky, I'm pretty fething pissed about it in all honesty because Origins was so awesome and I was expecting more of the same.

It very much reminded me of a single player MMO, I have never really liked the Dragon Age series though.
I am currently playing Dark Age of Camelot on the Genesis freeshard, it is essentially the basic game and the Shrouded Isles expansion so roughly the same game that I last played in about 2003.
Its pretty good and nostalgic fun. Its remarkably difficult for an MMO although that's one of the reasons that I am playing it.

This sounds like you are playing on a PC. I've heard that the PC port was abysmal from a control prespective, so that may have something to do with your frustration. Apparently, its a serious contender for worst PC port of a console game evar.

I played 'Endless Legend' during the free weekend it was available on. You gotta admit the music is super nice, the factions are fairly interesting including minor factions (ghosts, dwarf equivalents, minotaurs for the first 3 i met and other such things). I was playing with the necrophages which are basically bugs that can infect people. Oddly enough i felt the cult looked kinda weird and dumb but the lizard people and other factions were cool. My computer did have issues running the game a bit though which is unfortunate but may be a personal issue with my computer. Gotta admit if it's one thing the 'Endless' series does right is have a lot of creative factions many of which are non-human. It definitely breaks the mold and is unlike tolkien style fantasy (dwarfs, elves, orcs). The game does have an equivalent to wood elves but it also has anger powered mages and various other cool things. Oddly enough Endless Legend has more female portraits for faction leaders (the human or elvish ones where you can actually tell the gender) which is strange and normally i wouldn't care for but admittedly they're attractive so i'll take it ;P. I'll also state that while attractive the women aren't sexualized with certain features. Hopefully that appeases everybody (if that's even possible).
I'm unsure what game i should play next. I'm thinking maybe i should go back to my kajiit cat-man rogue on skyrim but i'm not sure. It's rather strange i actually like cats in a game considering that's only happened in this game and with SWAT KATS the animated tv series about cats piloting a jet fighter craft. God i used to love that show when i was 9 or so. I may need to go back to it some time. Perhaps my hatred stems from the fact i'm allergic to them but also hate cats.
I suppose i could also give xcom: enemy within a try (basically got to the end of impossible ironman and when it was obvious i'd win just got bored and stopped playing). Other possibilities are xenonauts and any of the dawn of war 1 or 2 games. Gotta admit imperial guard are still fun in dawn of war 2 esp. the executioner leman russ. Galactic civilizations 3, Wargame: Red Dragon, shadowrun returns: series and shogun 2 fall of the samurai are also looking decent. Really at this point i have old games but am unsure what to play and i'm kinda bored with everything. Xcom: enemy unknown and within are fun but when you've played 1,000+ hours like i have it loses its appeal. Maybe if there was some new content with new opposing factions or an EXALT campaign i'd totally play. EXALT needed some more love that game and possibly a way to balance the power difference rather than being total chumps.

The controls are pants, seems like an awkward port to PC. I'm getting by alright, its not like I need rapid access to intricate controls, its just a few buttons. Bit more obnoxious than it could be, is all I'm saying.

Update on my "Normal" (read: Nintendo Hard) difficulty Earth Federation playthrough on Gihren's Greed:
I beat the One Year War scenario last night. I beat the Zeons back to their home territory of Side 3, and held them there while I increased my tech levels and built up my army. Around turn 80 I went in with 109 units, at least thirty of which were NT Gundams. The rest were GM Sniper IIs and GM Kais (and the ships to transport them). The Zeon had 111 units.
I only lost two mobile suits and one battleship before totally wiping my opponent out.
So now I'm starting on the post war scenarios (Operation Stardust, Z Gundam, Gundam ZZ, Char's Counterattack). This part of the scenario is much, much easier than the One Year War part. So I won't bore anyone with any further updates on my progress, because I know I can beat the game from this point.
In other news, I've been downloading texture updates for Morrowind, because I've had an odd hankering to get back into it, and the look of vanilla Morrowind is not something I can deal with after Skyrim. Thank the Nine Divines for mods.

Just got through downloading "Black Mesa" and going to try installing and giving that a go tonight.
It's a full conversion mod for Half-life 2 which turns it into .... Half-Life! Looking forward to going through the Resonance Cascade in the HL2 engine.

I'm trying to figure out Chapter Master.
The Iron Hands became renegades on turn 2. Oops!

It's pretty straightforward. You start a new character. That character can't interact with characters who aren't also Season characters created that season. That means not only no adventuring with them, but no shared bank space, crafting recipes, etc... When the season ends, your character goes into your general character pool.
And you'll get some extra - largely cosmetic - rewards during the process.

Demolition Company Gold. It's a fun game, though very annoyed by the fact that you need to replay certain levels ad nauseum to earn enough money to buy the equipment needed to unlock more jobs.

I'd ask to join but I'd get like 5k ms latency or something, considering we're on different sides of the world.
Do you like my Shepard?

Yepyepyep. That too.
Also continuing to mod Retribution. I am considering Warframe as well, my BF swears it's great but I do not see the charm yet.

@ashiraya: Your shepard looks like a combo of a judge from 'judge dredd' and somebody from 'TRON' maybe.
Started playing more skyrim. Mostly finished the quest with katria getting the aetherium shards. All i need to do now is find the forge. Also i managed to clean out cragslane caverns from skooma dealers and so finally got a house in riften which is nice. Funny how this game is so large and how it's totally possible to not even get much of the main questline done.

Warframe was pretty cool back when I played- that was about a year and 5 major updates ago, though.
My suggestion if you do start playing? Figure out the basics of the frames, if you like one that's not immediately available shell out a few bucks during a 1/2 off Plat sale to buy your preferred frame outright, then just play for the sheer joy of hack'n'slash ninja-space-robots, rather than specifically for grinding.
Oh, and a controller may or may not work better as a control scheme than mouse and keyboard- aiming is easier with a mouse, of course, but so much of the game is about precision movement that the greater dimensional freedom and convenience of the controller might help.
I might need to get into modding Skyrim seriously now, considering I might be able to actually make money off it now.

Just got done playing Hearthstone. Tried out a mech heavy deck. It was pretty fun. Played as Jaina and Anduin to finish off a couple 'quests' or 'dailies' or whatever they call them (challenges?)
Tried out Heroes of the Storm last night. It was better than I expected. I wasn't expecting to like the gameplay since I'm not that great at MOBAs but for some reason I found it more playable than LOL or the first DOTA (well to be fair I barely played the first DOTA). I can see myself really getting into Heroes of the Storm. I'm a fan of Blizzard's properties (love the lore and characters) so that was given positive going into the game. I wasn't even expecting to like the graphical presentation of the game. I was just expecting them to be reskinning one of their present games but it feels like its own thing.

I need to try out Shogun 2... I've had a copy in my steam library for some time now and haven't even bothered to touch it. Same with Age of Wonders 3.

With a the attention it's been getting, I've started playing skyrim again. I downloaded the Falskaar mod, so that's been fun, although it bugged out at the begging the first time I tried.
