Seems reasonable. To much chipping and I think they'd loose the orange and become big metal guys again.

Been a while since I was here, but the progress looks great!!

I like the plasma particle effect you painted- good idea and great execution!

New orange looks way better, and the little stripes of black are exactly what the scheme needs. I'll echo the sentiments of everyone else and say to avoid too much chipping on the armor- keep that lovely orange color and leave the machine bits grimey and weathered!

The two big boys are done! now I can follow on with the rest of the army in the same finish and style I don't know what else to say about them but they turned out goooooood! exactly how I wanted them to look for Whaley, nice and heavy with a worn powerful stature ready to do battle! the more subtle chipping on the armour plates is just about right when in conjunction with the under frame it's as if they change the main battle plates between battles to keep them well protected.

the big ass mortar I tried another little different thing with it, I washed the rear with a white wash to make it look chalky and as if the prolonged exposure to the plasma wash back had calcified or left a residue on it.

there ya go guys! more exciting models coming up soon! I hope these are enough to whet your Admech-apetite

Beautiful, and once again your innovative approach to painting is inspiriring. The orange over metallics, the scratch effects, the build-up and residue on the Plasma Mortar, all techniques that I've seen rarely (if ever) and am definitely adding to the list of things to try out.

Out of control, Damo. Your stuff is really looking amazing these days. There are no other words. I love the thought you put into things like the calcification of the back end of the plasma mortar. You should send some pics of your stuff in to Forge World. They show off stuff that people have painted from time to time.

they're coming along nicely imo waiting on some more washes to come home with Nerdwench I ran out of Agrax,Nuln and Seoia

the Thallax, i'm going to see how a face plate done like the Thanatar lenses looks? or if I can even pull it off

I'm going open up the ring around the front of the cannon like flower petals i think but that effect you've done would be perfect for the focusing lenses(?) inside.
The whole force is coming along really beautifully. Oily, worn, pure machine. Really along the lines of how the mech are descrbed in all the fluff and what Blanche portrays imho. Fantastic stuff! Especially love what you've done with the Myrmidons' (?) axes - really great effect

More updates tonight but first I better drop a quick run down of the siege mortar effect some of you guys like

well, first up blue wash over the area and then while it's still fresh add a teeny brush tip of white paint into the charging area? this will bleed naturally and start the look you want, when its dry wash and do the same again and when that step is dry, wash and let the whole thing dry this time, then just dot some more white into your charging pattern. run some silver around the edges and wash the metal parts again with blue and that's about it!

so now onto the Admech!

metals are close to done, just need to edge and scratch one more time with silver, then it's the orange armour/robes and face plates I think i'll be done with them in a week or so if I can find the time!

so that's where I'm at with them all, should be really popping next time with some more shading and detail done!

Pretty pictures eh Whaley!? crikey dude I can't do that now until they're finished! :-) they're all at that stage where they've come together and look pretty damn good but I still have like one or two things left to complete on them all. This means I have only got to paint the orange armour and the orange robes as well as the Thallax face plates (which we discussed this morning) then whack on a bit of black contrast and voila! a fully finished Admech 30K army ready to kick ass and take numbers!!!!!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And I also have nailed down at this stage a little project I've been toying with literally for years! I've been a massive fan of the idea behind Necromunda, the gritty hard skirmish battles and gangs of hardened guys and girls who just don't give a Rat's behind about 'nuffin

So, I'm going to paint up 2 gangs of Necromunda :-) for myself I'm painting the TGG Jailbirds as an Escher gang, lots of skin and bright accents on hair and cloth which will be fun! and the second one I'm thinking at this stage using the Scibor Sci Fi Dwarves? they're cool little models and would make a good gang of boiler type workmen who live in the greasy workings of a hive? any thoughts on other options hit me up! i'll be buying them start of next year

Yo dudes! i've nearly finished the massively awesome Admech!

But I also got sidetracked and built and painted an Iron Hands Captain for a mate of mine he wants me to paint his Iron hands force and I thought i'd paint him up a model and send it to him so he can see exactly what I paint them like, I wanted to do him a character and I had an urge to convert in my cut-paste way I enjoy! so a few models later this is what i built and painted pretty much in a day

anyway I hope this will appease you until i can take about a million pics of the Admech next week!

Good stuff! I'm personally not sure about the pose, but the paintwork is great! Do you mind sharing your recipe for Iron Hands armour, I've just started some and at the moment it's just prime black, drbrush silver, several heavy black washes then weathering. This looks similar, but a bit more involved and varied, which I could do with for characters.

Thanks guys, the pose is awkward I admit especially when trying to take a pic! :-) it's Khan the betrayer from FW with a new arm and different head, irl it isn't as bad.

as far as painting him goes, it's the same technique as I do any of my weathered metals now. Prime silver, wash with black, wash with agrax, wash parts with purples or greens if you want a tinge to the metal, add chips and scratches and some watered orange around bolts etc. wash with black then re apply some fresh chips! done!

Finished the Admech force for Whaley! and they are very VERY cool models! tried a few little different things than my normal painting like the plasma glow and the Thallax face plates etc. and it comes together really nicely with the burnished metals and orange spot colour for them, they really are covered in a glut of glorious details which might seem daunting to paint but it seems to be a background element from the main components so you can pull back a bit on cabling and dials and it still doesn't effect the finished look

I wasn't going to do anything today, but I felt the urge to start to get a feel for the Grey Knights so I figured i'd start with the HQ Kaldor Da'mo I started thinking i'd theme my GK's in a Scottish feel with rich tartans and bearded brawling bastards! but as I began I got the feeling they needed to be worn and dirty and the model itself was telling me what colours were needed

I've based all the colours and started washing the shades on as well as replacing his sword which I tried to straighten and broke I liked the look of the Halberd with his pose and have just loosely placed it in for the pics before I prime it.

Thanks dude! I have an ENTIRE FORCE to paint the metals will be more obvious on the other models as Kaldor is kinda busy (but hell cool!) i've got 2 DK's about 10 Paladins and 5 Terminators and 2 5 man Purifier squads and a 10 man strike squad and....and.....and......

Thanks Ramos, seriously one day when I work out how to actually film my painting I'll do a skin tone tutorial properly so I can talk and show you what i do, it's pretty easy and 2016 won't be THAT big, i've only got planned my Grey Knights, 2 Necromunda gangs, some orks and maybe 5/6 Flesh Eater tanks? so pretty much a couple of months of painting! lets hope some more cool new releases get my attention!

Thanks so much Az, (I think) those Admech are really very cool and I love the paintjob I did on them too, I'm glad I listened to Whaley and did them Ryza Orange for him it works! it works nearly as much as that ugly bastard GK!

Just a little random thought someone 'may' want to have a go at, but looking back at the Admech I just did I can really see that the method of that dark brassy metal would look FANTASTIC on a FW Minotaurs army yes? i'd do it myself but I feel I might be overdoing the metals lately with Admech, rusty Orks, Grey Knights :-) but if I get enough encouragement you know..... I could be tempted....... next year's looking pretty slim paint wise until Whaley buys another titan ;-)

Well, yes...... they are a driving force behind me wanting to do them I wanted to do a White Minotaurs army years and years ago when I saw one in the how to paint space marines book! then down the track the Minotaurs got revamped and I found myself considering them again, the pull is strong and if you guys don't mind more metals??

whalemusic360 wrote:I do have those two guys....

since it's nearly Star Wars time I can use the force "They are not the models you need, they need to be given to Damian....."

and I think to really push the metal envelope I better show you the final version of Kaldor Da'mo as I said, I wanted to get a feel for how they'll come together and started on the HQ, i'm pretty happy with the colours I chose and everything fits well in my opinion. It was also my first time I tried to paint a vial which turned out pretty good for attempt number one! I really like the head and not just because it somewhat resembles me but it brings the pose to life and appears a mighty stalwart figure of justice

Just imagine an entire force like this it's gonna look MAD!

Cracking work! There's only one part that looks a little 'off'' to me, that's the very, very extreme highlight on the inside of the right arm. I can see why it's there, but from what I can tell nowhere else on the mini is that bright, so it throws me a little... That's a minor criticism of a fantastic mini, though!

Oh hi! just thought i'd wish you all a VERY Merry Christmas and a safe and loving new year for 2016 just around the corner my Christmas was lovely and not as family stressful as I imagined went for a swim with my dad and niece in the pool at my folks place, the weather was a cloudless 30c degrees and we smashed out a lunch with BBQ Scallops wrapped in prosciutto, sliced ham off the bone, scalloped potatoes, and all the normal attendees you'd expect on a Christmas buffet!

I want to also thank you all again for sticking with me for another year and offering me the support and encouragement I need as I continue to learn and love painting miniatures I'm not sure how i'll go in 2016 as I have some larger home renovations, still i'll get painting done but my updates may be a touch more sporadic and as always I will endeavor to be here with you as much as possible sharing the flittering ideas I find myself getting distracted by

speaking of random...... I'm kind of trying out a couple of things that I have wanted to for a long time and i'll see what kind of response they get as to whether I follow on and do a force or some such ridiculousness

So, Merry Christmas, have an Imperial Fist Marine!

Cheers guys, I honestly hope and wish you have a really wonderful and pain free 2016 with nothing but love and peace

I shall be endeavoring to fulfill the same for my own

I have worked out a rough list of the projects you'll be seeing this year from me, of course I will slip in the odd one or two projects that take my fancy during the year if there's any nice model releases! but these things I am going to do if nothing else!

in no particular order:...........

* Necromunda Escher gang made from Raging Heroes Toughest Girls models.
* Sporadic Imperial Fist painting for fun
* HH 30K Salamanders army for Whaley, Troops and Fliers.
* Grey Knights army
* Five Tanks for my Flesh Eaters, Baal,Vindi, Pred, Razorbacks etc.....
* Kastelan Robots to finish Whaley's Admech
* another batch of random models for BigH's boy LittleH
* full Secret Weapon Miniatures 6x4 Urban Ruins board
* Terrain for table including buildings, rubble and scratch built

So there you go guys hope that gives you something to look forward to and also a list of things you can remind me of that I said i'd do

Got a little something to show you that arrived yesterday I ordered a Tablescape ruined urban streets board and it finally arrived! So in normal Damo style I had to prime and start painting it so far I primed grey then made a little square stencil and roughly sprayed each little square on the tiles from different angles with a eucalyptus green, after that I used the airbrush and quickly blackened the craters, after that I made a watered down black mix which I dabbed on around the cracks and used my hands to blend and fade the paint into the surrounding area which gave the tiles a more dirty look, lastly I've based brown all the other details that will be rusted metals next I'll begin adding more tones and colours and doing the details!

I also snapped some images of some terrain and models to get a feel for it all together.

and imagine the stories I can tell now I have a board!

A lone Guardsman and Lieutenant Varras carefully make their way out of a warzone with precious gene seed...

Providing a crows nest position Imperial Fists brother Nerran scopes for enemy movement...

Enemy command go about their business not knowing the death dealer stalking to their position....

Minotaur marines protect the lower levels while their las cannon wielding brothers take aim at enemy tanks...

I mentioned that this year I would be working on terrain, the gaming board is the main part and this shelf holds the rest of my terrain projects

and this is the start of the Nerdness of this 2016!

Not much Styro, it really is mainly just scratches sandwiched between layers of washes if you want a part shinier for a highlight then overbrush some gold lightly on between layers and use different coloured washes to add some variation

Hey guys, Nerdfest needs our help. He asked me what he could build with his BA army to see off part of it for some extra money (not to me this time). I suggested making a competitive list using drop pods, but I'm not very current with the meta at the moment. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make a proper pod list these days?

I've got them at home in the process of packing them up and sending them on their way, it's a big job :-( my mates have all been incredulous as to why i'm selling such a labor of love after nearly 8 years of work on them but I have to be an adult sometimes, I need to save 10grand this year and I needed something to bump start me.

I'm still, as I mentioned, going to paint marines and still buy and collect but just not as much, I've already got enough to keep me going with my Grey Knights and Orks and Whaley's Sallies :-)

I've still got some primed BA stuff to sell, mainly a bunch of tanks and some marines and DC so I might just go chuck them up on swappy shop and see if anyone wants them! I've advertised the other models locally but people only want a tank here and there and are offering next to naught :-(

The other thing for my hobby this year is a positive thing, I'm totally re doing my work space and storage areas so I'll be more organised and if I know myself it will spur me on to get stuck into the paint again :-) new shelves/display and a new painting desk which means I can move my old desk into the garage for a terrain painting and building area so I can do larger messier work!

10k is a hell of a goal! Glad you were able to move them at once, hopefully you got a good price. I'm sure it's bittersweet to see them go though. You better still have 2 playable armies when I come to visit.

You know I'll keep you in models as long as you want em. The benefit of liking to model and not paint is I have piles of grey dudes.

You better believe I'll still have two armies to play when you visit! I'll make damn sure I do

I got 1,000Aus for my army, not bad I think, I could have held out for more but if the fish bites..........

I think partly I knew deep down in my soul I had your 7.3 Tonnes of Plastic and resin hiding in your hobby bunker that I knew you'd need painting

Here's the link for what else i'm selling too. grab yourself a good deal, i'm open to offers on the lot, and remember the Aussie $ is low so any US interests can score big lol :-)

Did a little more work on my board today coming along nicely so far, I think I've done the main weathering and now I'll go back in and add finer details for the cracks and scattered rubbish (not that Imperial Propaganda is rubbish)

I think I'll drybrush the roads a lighter grey and the larger rubble areas as well. Any advice to make it look more realistic with the finer details when I get to them? any areas I can add some liquid effects or something else?

To be honest with you, that board is looking quite nice as is. But I do agree that it can use some more touches. From my point of view, judging by the pictures, I feel like that board could really benefit from a good 'dirtying', be it through careful washing or use of weathering powders, and perhaps for the road an overbrush or something with a brighter colour? To me the board looks great but the only thing I think it really lacks is depth.

Let that in no way bring you down, the board is coming along brilliantly, and obviously there are elements of depth across the board - the airbrush shading is accurate and effective, but I think that next level could be achieved if you went at it carefully with a brush as well. Just my thoughts. At the end of the day its your table and you of all people know what best to do with it

I have the upmost faith in yer advances with the board, whatever they may be Hope this got the creative juices flowing if nothing else

Nice work nerdy. I agree with lips that the board needs some more contrast. A wash should do nicely to bring out all the cracks and creases.

I would say the roads could go either lighter or darker for some more contrast, and in either case, adding some yellow or white road markings might help there as well, On the whole, it's looking great!

Looking fantastic Damo. I think the "dirtying" should do the trick nicely.

If you wanted more details, you could add some yellow lines or dashes down the middle of the roads, and maybe some metalics on the storm drains and man hole covers. Some oily water effects in the deeper craters might work as well.

Nerdfest09's Blog now with terain building shenanigans and a Mino Command. @ 2016/01/21 13:42:42

Weathering powders mixed with water/medium and some matt varnish can be applied in the gutters and craters, etc for a nice effect as well. Once it dries, it's matt but leaves a great look.

And to add to the suggestions.. darken the roads a bit more to provide an additional level of contrast. ( ie. dirty them even more than the rest. )

Love the leaflets!

Also never underestimate plant life. Please forgive me putting this rubbish here but in the vain a picture says a thousand words......

Also think about street lamps adding variety.

Started doing some more dirtying up and added some rough road markings to give it a bit of Ooomph

used some powders and washed and brushed them in areas, it's starting to come together now, I also dry brushed some metal onto the grates and such, looks like a pretty bad neighborhood I for one wouldn't buy here......

I have a bunch of street lamps I'm going to paint up from the CoD box so they'll be scatter type terrain, and I'm then going to work on some buildings and terrain to get that all done ready for gaming!

it seems that since the decision was made to part ways with my FleshEaters my blood is running a shade of green again....... I can feel the need to paint Ork Boyz tugging strongly, since I finally got them on a shelf all together and I see them as a force I love them crazy fools! :-)

and any ideas for Imperial Fists i'd love too please! how to get a distinct feel and flavor to them, any models I can convert that are different or would look cool

Not sure if this is a fuzzy memory gone wrong, but back in the day many years ago, playing Epic, my friend (yes I used to have them) Had a vast SM army. Blood Angels where always assault based and Imperial Fist where always Devastator based, so as a theme make them a long range shoot bunch, just a thought! Breaches yes, with other siege style forces. Their assaulty stuff comes from Templar brothern which gets some nice blacks in with the yellows.

Hello good people! I have nearly got my new improved Nerd lair's (yes that's right Lair's plural!) done, just some more organising and shifting around of bits and bobs and they'll be good to go again for my painting room I got a new painting desk that has a sweet inbuilt drawer to store all my often used tools so they're not cluttering my work space, it's also a bit smaller and higher which is nice to work on

Also got a new desk lamp from China that's actually pretty damn nice bolts onto the side and has a swinging arm and white light that you can adjust the brightness of also helps with the wip photo's like the next project on my desk 32 Ork Boyz each one with some kind of conversion with head, arm & torso swaps!

Now the next work space is my gaming table and terrain cave I moved my old desk out there with the help of 'Betty, She-Hulk-NerdWench' and along with my old shelves made a nice little area where I can store all my gaming stuff for playing (if I ever play....) and work on terrain buildings and messier projects

I did a little more on the table so its nearly done, just one area I need input on I know it all sort of looks the same but trust me guys I've done...stuff

This piece of the flatter heavily cracked board is where I'm having trouble to make it look better?

So there we go for now guys, I hope that gets you as keen as I am for painting again

Nice painting room and nerdshed!

I'd go with more weathering powders on the large cracked area. Maybe vary a couple of tones on the surface and have some darker above, pick out some edges, and then the powder in the cracks.

Well, first day having a paint on my new desk the light is definitely the best bit! o much better to paint and pic under!

I washed all my boyz and began the BattleWagon and then got into the Weirdboy, I wanted to start again with a stand alone model and he seemed like a good pick the details in under his jacket are a bit confusing partly sculpt, partly messy finecast but I've made the parts darker and bought his face to the fore as the focal point as well as his staff in his hand.

he's fun to paint and i've stayed with the darker scrapyard style of the rest of them trying to get an oiled leather look to his clothes and trappings

Washed Boyz

Wagon

Weirdboy

There you go guys hope you like

Weirdboy is done I think he's a worthy addition to the grubby little Waaaagh! I'm building just imagine when you look at him the heavy chinking sounds as the rusted metal of his adornments hits together and the oiled heavy rustle of his leather cloak made from some exotic hide.

I have fun painting any Ork characters they're really fun and the older hand sculpted ones are by far the best

Howdy guys, I finally have some update stuff to show you again!

I've got s few weeks from work and the time so far has been happily spent caring for a litter of 7 five week old Samoyed puppies and their mum! so currently I have 11 dogs at home

today though I pulled out my hobby box and built a chaplain for my Imperial Fists army not for any real reason other than I really like the idea of the Chaplains and love the imagery of them, not really liking any of the current offerings I had previously bought a Legion of The Damned Sarge and I now went about doing a small conversion so he had a crozius of sorts I like the helmet and pose very much on this guy and used the leg flame and helmet crest to mark him out as an Imperial fist at a glance do you think I should paint the flames on the greaves light at the bottom blending into darker points? or light points leading down to dark at the bottom? I personally think lighter at the bottom would look better and help accentuate the models shape?

Next up is a pretty boring two photos of a few boys with their first coat of green, still a bunch more to go..........

and a little more exciting work is the progress on the Battle Wagon it's now been washed and the first layer of scratches have been applied, it's starting to come together and look like it's going in the right direction next she'll be washed again and given a bit of the 'ol orange rust wash to give those rivets a bit of aged corrosion also had my very first play with the GW Technical paint 'Blood for the blood god' just a small amount as if they hit someone in the Wagon.

So that's a start again it's now going to be a challenge to decide whether to work on the chaplain (who is yet to be named....... ) or the Wagon.....or the Boyz.....

Love that Chaplain so far! Flames should probably light at the base, fading darker as you go up, that's how actual flames work, and it looks best anyway.

Will you be darkening the armour?

The boyz look great so far as usual. With the Chaplain it depends on how you'll be painting the armour. If you're going to have black greaves, I tend to go yellow at the tips of the flames which makes them stand out more (even though as Para points out, flames work the other way) but it really depends on whether you want them to pop more from the feet or the mid-greave.

I have a lot of distractions around me at the moment, well seven distractions that look like this

Spoiler:

Totally worth the distractions and sleepless nights......

but thankfully Nerdwench takes over and I get a chance to sit for a bit and do some Nerd stuff Like today for instance I got the main body of the Wagon done and now only have the claw and crew to paint up! and it looks cool and heavy, battered and used!

I have also really really immersed myself into how I view and appreciate the Imperial Fists Pious and stoic, stubborn and methodical which led me to want to add another chaplain to the force, I raided through my bits box and models and decided to convert something cool, I grabbed the BA Libby and got cutting, not a huge amount of changes just subtle ones that really mark him as a reclusiarch of renown

still more to add, like his storm bolter and some gap filling and rivets, as well as his skull mask hanging somewhere as I wanted to show this guy bare faced and brutal, damaged and scarred wearing his wounds as a badge of office to inspire those around him, I used a bare head that I always thought was bloody terrible but in the right setting even a World Eaters rampager can be saved

so sorry too guys that I haven't been as productive this year so far but I hope you'll stay with me while I slowly get more done I hope you like this latest batch and any suggestions would be welcome

Thanks so much guys, I was going to try and get rid of the horns on the skulls but I don't feel I have the right tools and wouldn't want to ruin him! :-(

I kinda like the longer crozius on the PA Chaplain Whaley :-) it's a little different, giving him a longer sweeping style of combat options,I like to think it's what he trained with ;-)

also I painted the WE head but think I'll go with a different one I just don't like my paint job on it :-(

Thanks guys, I think next time I do a larger battlewagon i'll leave a few panels shinier metal and some painted in other colours not that I'm not happy with my work I just think a brother wagon would need a different look to it

I can feel the weight of 32 boyz pressing on me I know once I spend a day on them I will be pretty progressed but trying to find a solid block of time is proving really bloody hard!

as for the rust, it's not a technical paint at al it's just blazing orange paint watered down and washed over the metal parts for a light rust look and concentrated for heavier rust and between the panel lines where waters may channel down or sit, or just where it looks good

but that aside, here's the boyz on their rides, the riders have only been placed on so I can paint them properly they all so far have been really fast to do and as usual this style while some may find it a bit the same as the rest of the army but it suits and I like the look

started collect a few things to spice up my Imperial fists when I get them under way

I found I had a Lysander model from when I was going to use it to make a lightning claw Terminator Captain for my Flesh Eaters the hammer and arm was broken but I was going to convert him slightly anyway so it's all good.

I did spend a little bit of money and bought Pedro Kantor as well so I've got options and he's pretty damn fisty!

So I really like to have bare heads on my characters and I was struggling to think of cool ones I can find that would be different and I found some that excited me greatly and fit in with the regal look and feel of those mighty Sons of Dorn

BUT!

Which head for what model? I am bare heading Lysander & Kantor and have 3 choices for these bad asses! so lets see what you think works best?

Head #1 Loken

Head #2 Abaddon

Head #3 MK3 Techmarine

next question, with the two characters I'll be subtly converting them both with the heads but should I leave Kantor alone apart from that? I saw a nice conversion with two powerfists and I thought I could do similar but incorporate Dorns Arrow like Marneus gauntlet? but i'm open to suggestions on this one. Lysander will get a new arm with more swing to it and I may have a play with his shield arm too?

I think Abbadon's head, sans topknot, would work great for Lysander. Then Loken's for Kantor.

I'd leave Kantor alone apart from that, he's got a gakton of presence and gravitas as it is. One of the best SM character minis, hands down.

Post by: nerdfest09

So we think so far it's head #1 for Kantor and head #2minus topknot for Lysander? can I ask why you guys have chosen those particular heads for those two characters? I'd like to see the thought behind the choices, whether it's 'just because it's a cool head' or 'I prefer that head and the model you use it on would be used more?' or 'the expression would suit the models pose and station'

personally I can see Loken and the tech head as Kantor, both stern and uncompromising, the tech one very cold and focused doing his duty pointing Dorn's arrow at the enemy without much visible emotion where the Loken head has a great power with the yell appearing more of a command or a battle cry? not to mention it is a more regal countenance with the hair and jawline. And as for Lysander it has to be a more action type head with the shouting mouth, again the Loken head would look great it that armour but the Abaddon one is more midst of battle.

Now onto the good stuff!

I finished my Biker Mob, I wasn't overly happy with my Ork skin this time but it photographed well I tried to make it slightly different than the boyz and it was a little rougher in application but it looks good all together when they're on the bikes roaring down the battlefield anyway here they are!

There you go guys, what do you think? I reckon i'll go back to my old recipe though

Fantastic stuff, they are some mean, green speed machines!

My thought process on the heads was pretty much the same as yours, with the additional factor that Abbadon's head is such a characterful sculpt that absolutely needs to be used, and I reckon it suits Lysander better than Kantor.

Bikers look good. The changes on the bikes really sets them a part for me.

For the heads, kantor and loken seem similar as the youthful leader kind of thrust into their roll early, and the head gives that vibe. The tech marine and Lysander just seem like the older veteran, stoic and scarred.

O damn you you had to go back to green skins and make me envies of your skills, those bikers have a superb look of hard ridding Borks .....

Love the colour scheme myself adds a more weathered tone to the skin which reflects the lifestyle, as for the bikes themselfs I have to say great ideas which I am so stealing, the load added to the front of the bike and the lights (noodles I gather) are perfect fantastic work once again.

Spellcrow heads are crammed full of character, but you really do bring them to life with your brush ...... Did I mention I hate you ?

Those or s are as beautiful as orcs could possibly be.

As for my thoughts on the heads. Kantor is a survivor in power armor who is constantly moving. So I don't see him as someone who takes the time to keep his hair immaculately shaved so I went with the short hair thinking he recently got trimmed, but it's been a while. Lysander on the other hand is a terminator who sits on a ship and waits to be teleported into battle, he has time for a close shave. Plus with all the energy discharge of teleportation I think I'd be annoyed by my hair standing on end constantly and I would want to shave it. The tech marine head is too much bionic for both of them in my opinion. They are both Heros who have live through major battles and I dont recall them having bionics or server wounds.

Silly answers, but that's my thought process.

Well thank you so much guys! I really appreciate the feedback and thoughts!

I think Lysander will get Abaddon's head sans hair and Kantor gets Loken's Tech head gets to go somewhere else when a suitable model appears, maybe a Sternguard Sarge? all you guys pretty much followed my own thought train even with the teleport and lack of hair

The bikes only really had some packs added and plasticard front fenders with rivets and those lights I got from Blood&Skulls industry so not much make them stand out!

I do think I remember LDD saying he hates me?..... actually think he's mentioned it a couple times

I did get some models recently from BigH to paint up for LittleH so I go them primed and ready to go, I like trying little things and as these guys for the most part are earthy dirty characters I primed black and misted them with a light brown which already gives them the feel i'm after, the models are all old metals and I think they are great but I don't recognise them? except for Dildo Shaggins and the termies....

The earthy tone is definelty reflected in the prime colour, never considered taking this approach for a base colour technique.

I got a feeling those are old grenadier models but don't take my word for it, I have a couple of those some where and they look similar to the style.

Blood and Skulls I new I had seen them somewhere o well can't be right all the time LOL

Kantor head isn't doing much for me either. Lysander head would look better on either model.

I got to go with the choir on Kantors head, it doesn't really do anything for me. Although with your Damo skills I could see you tattoo a fist on one side of the Mohawk and (forget their home world name) on the other side of it.

Also out of curiosity, The imperial are supposed to be the not Spanish faction right? They talk about torture (pain glove/inquisition torture) and being skilled swordsmen, but the Name of their Homeworld was Inwit, an ice planet, That makes me think of the Inuit (eskimo tribe), who as far as I know are not excellent swordsmen, but who do scrimshaw bones. Any ideas of history that I'm missing.

I'll second the Lysander yes Kantor maybe not comments, the swap on Ly definitely, definitely works but I tnink Kantor needs something with a thicker jaw/larger head generally, something quite chunky and rough-looking.

@Theo: Pretty sure there's elements of both going on. I definitely recall reading about some scrimshawing in the Chapter, but the knight/swordsmen thing is a big part of it as well, which spins off into the Black Templars. And the siege/defensive warfare thing in contrast to the Iron Warriors' siegebreaker/offensive warfare style. Pinning down the IFs as 'historical faction in space' is much more difficult than, say, the WS Mongols or UM Romans or SW Norse ect.

Yeah don't stress guys, Kantor won't be getting that head lol :-) I was just playing around with what I had at hand! I'm pretty sure he'll get Loken's when it arrives, Lysander was a lucky break as that head came with the warders and I hadn't really thought of it until last night! but it works great!

Got nearly all of Kantor's Loken head done, just a few more touch ups and some eye work and he'll be good to glue! still thought i'd show you since I go it and pretty much just started painting it up so do we all still agree this is the correct head for him?

and I also have to show you something very special a new addition to my family! this is my new fuzzy daughter named Daisy-May and she's absolutely amazing! i'm as proud as punch and she fits in perfectly with all of us!

Poor Oscar, totally outnumbered by fluff. Looks like you missed a big mold line on top of the backpack for Loktor.

Gorgeous looking dog there- very white! Does that breed shed much fur then?

How many dogs is that you're up to now then Nerdy?

Kantor is coming along nicely! Love the yellow!

Thanks guys, Kantors pack does indeed have a very shallow line on it that shows up with the wash, hopefully I can remedy that next session and the head indeed does appear to be large but it's the same as a normal head except for the expression and the fact it's sitting in Blu-Tac

bad news, I don't like the Gorgons now so they've been stopped. put in a box. and shipped to someone else.

Good news, I am getting some hammernators to run with Lysander instead so any 3rd party additions to Termie armour you know of tell me!

and really, how could you NOT love Daisy-May? there is indeed mischief there behind the eyes! it's apparently fun to take underwear from the bathroom through the house and out the back door and it's also fun to pull the cord on the N64 controller making the system fall and shut off 1.3 seconds from finishing 1st in Rainbow Road! but I forgave her...... so now I have 4 furry children to keep me busy! 3 Samoyeds and one good dog

I base coated the colours on Kantor this morning so hopefully I should see him done this week along with some basic work on LittleH's band of guys

Ha I am sure your only using the "I dislike now" as an excuse to create yet another unit

I feel your pain with the N64, we had a flop eared dwarf rabbit ( which in no stretch of the imagination was a dwarf anything ) we used to let happily hop around the room, on one such occasion I was blissfully playing golden eye last level for the seventeenth time with better results when all of a sudden the controller goes unresponsive ?????

At this point Bailey the rabbit goes happily bouncing past, so in sheer desperation I try to figure out what th hell has happened, on closer inspection after checking the controller was connected properly I noticed that there was some damage to the wire, yes the little bugger had decided to have a little chew on the way past ............

The new family member looks super cute! I also love Lysander's new head. Something about Pedro's head doesn't quite work for me, though. It's not the paint - I just can't quite put my finger on it... maybe it looks a bit too big? Or maybe it's the blob of blu-tac causing it to look too big? I'm really not certain...

Cheers Az, I think it's because it's sitting high with the Blu Tac? or maybe the angle makes him look bigger? shouldn't be long until I can fit it in properly once I get some armour finished on him :-) I tried the eyes today and ended up making a smudgy mess which I very nearly cried over! :-(

Kantor is done! finished and looking regal as 'F' love the way the yellow looks with the bare head and the embellishments, I wasn't going to use the banner, but last minute decided t use it as I've not had a character that stands out with one before but I figured the Fists are pretty codex compliant and would have 'Ultramarine' style decoration?

I'll be looking forward to doing Lysander in the same style, it's bold and clean and I like it

here he is then, Kantor the man!

Questions.....

Isnt Pedro Kantor the Chapter Master of the Crimson Fists? Why is he painted yellow? Or am I missing something.

One would assume this is his long lost brother in the Imperial Fists, Peter Kantor
