A SHRUBBERY!!!!!
Ni.......
Anyway thanks for the compliments guys! if you like faces then boy-o-boy do I have a treat coming up for you! as you may be aware I've been working a lot lately and this has impacted my paint time considerably, i've found a few minutes here and there to assemble some Grey Knights etc but as far as sitting down and really cracking into some brush work I haven't had the luxury of time sadly
but thanks to assembling the Knights and getting my plans sorted for the heraldry and colour scheme I have included a number of bodies without helmets for the purpose of adding some great bare heads into them I bought some new ones from Puppetswar I wanted to paint and will be using them when they arrive, as well as some Sternguard heads and a random one I found on ebay so a bit of a face-paint-a-thon will be coming up in a few weeks. I have to also paint a face to resemble my best mate when on the battlefield since I've got my head, he wanted one too and luckily the sternguard head with the beard can look enough like him to pass nicely so I'll do that one first.
hopefully this week I can get more done to Whaleys Warband, there's really not much more to do, skin tones and faces then details and add ons and I think they'd be good to go! then I can Vulkan.......

Hey, speaking recently about heads and faces, I was looking again at the Norse warrior heads from puppetswar and I really like them but now i'm considering a re-do of my own visage! one of them has the same facial hair configuration as i'm sporting with the lower beard no moustache look and shaved head, which is the second from the top but his beard is more bushy than mine on the sides or even the first top one I can nip off the hair and paint the cheeks as stubble as I keep it shorter on the sides of my face and longer into a ducktail type beard
what do you think? a new head for Kaldor Damo?

Post by: Minus
Those heads are full of character, it would be awesome to see what you can do on them.
So yeah, pick any of those heads, and re-paint yourself.
After all... the other one doesn't look that good... does it ?

Shhhh Gits.
Let him paint another face. Lots of other faces. THEN maybe, you can tell him that the first one looked better. But it's always good to see Damo painting faces.
The first attempt is meh Damo. Try another head.

Both the display table and Inquisitorial Warband look great, Damo. Very nice. If you wanted to add some extra, I'd suggest looking at getting some plastruct I-beam and clipping and bending some to strew around the board.

Post by: nerdfest09

Yeah, out of the way, in between where units will stand and next to things like the building rubble.

Actually I can probably take a pic tomorrow of what I want to display on the board before I go further? I've picked my favorite models from my collection (sans Terminators of course) that way we can have a look and see what makes a striking image!

Those blokes look amazing bud. And nice to see your red back in action.
On the display, I would try and go darker. Your beautiful Red stands out best against dark backgrounds. Fear it may get a little lost in the brown. Looking at the Griffon! (I think!) he's there but muted by the backdrop. Your boys pop so much they may be ok, but I would go a couple shades darker.
2 cents, what do I know!

Jan - It's from the Honored Imperium set, and still available.
Damo - I'd suggest moving the dread up with the termis, and maybe removing the Baal. It's a bit overpacked at the moment, I think a bit less will have more of a visual impact.

Thanks again guys! it's been fun to do and it's also been easy! mixing the brown poster paint acrylic with the filler for a base and then sprinkling on crushed corkboard was so time efficient and then some spraycan bursts to add variation for the ground and the rest is a big makeup brush which I used to sponge/dab darker washes over the board. a whole board like this would only take a day!

Post by: Gitsplitta
A suggestion or two from one who knows...
"Crowds" don't work very well visually. Trick is to balance the natural look with each unit and each character having it's own, distinct visual space so they just don't get all mashed up into one big blur.
I know it's a war-torn battlefield... but it needs more green in it. I would recommend some of those grass tufts. Tuck them in here and there where they might have avoided the shelling or along the back edge. Something to compliment all that red.
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
I've got some of my grass and green flock I use to go on the board yet Gits so hopefully that will add a small hint of contrast colour? I also haven't really decided on final positions of the models yet so it's certainly up for change :-)

Just outstanding work, mate. Very impressive on all levels. The whole army shot might potentially be given slightly better composition as Whaley mentioned, but the sight of all those beautifully painted models on the board is just out of control.
The Inquisitorial stuff is also fantastic as well. I really like the little anatomical touches that you're doing these days, such as sligtly more reddened skin on elbows and knees.

Hey Solar, the glass is simply some designs I found online that I re sized to fit the windows in the 40k buildings and had them printed on clear acetate I also have a black gel pen that people use for scrapbooking stuff and if you use that on the lines (which I didn't do this time) it gives a raised black lead-like appearance, it can be a bit thick so choose designs that aren't too intricate I'll show you if you wish I believe I've still got some I was fiddling around with.

I love the Vulkan model so I'm pretty excited to see what you do with it. Also I hate the literally black skin tone they supposedly have, so going the route you're going makes me a happy camper. When I first got into warhams a guy that taught me was black and his army was Salamanders, and he would go on and on about how they are the best because they are the black guys. Man he was pissed when they changed it to charcoal black
22192
Post by: whalemusic360
I agree KC, which is why I asked Damo to go with the realistic version over coal black.
I thought I had replied, but I think your biggest challenges/spots to shine on Vulkan will be the face, cape and keeping it green armor instead of gold all the things. Looks like you are off to a great start!

Crikey - he's perfect. Armour, cloak, skin. Each thing absolutely bang on. That skin tone really looks so much better the stock tones they went with. First time I saw the other way I thought they'd done some 1920's 'blackface' rendition. Couldn't fetching believe it. Yours looks so so much better. Awesome job.
22192
Post by: whalemusic360
Looks pretty sick! I was wondering how you were going to do the flame mantle, I think the gold works well, and is more practical then actual flames. The candied armor works well. Salamanders work well with the effect, would be interesting to see in some other colors too. Emperor's Children, Ultramarines, Blood Angels and Imperial Fists might work well, at least in my head.

Wow, wow, WOW!!!!
This has to be some of your best work... I mean wow... every part of it is spectacular. The skin tone (which is a great change from blackface), the marble on the hammer... But most of all that armor! I think that's what really sells it

Excellent work mate. He looks very impressive, and it's good to hear that your birthday was a good one. What was the technique you used on the armour?
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Wow thank you so much guys I'm thinking that when I do Rowboat Girlyman the crisp blue armour shall get the Nerdcandy treatment! it's a great method that isn't too difficult to do either, get your base colours on (in my case green) then shade your recesses with wash and mix a little bit of gold paint with your base colour again and highlight as normal dragging the mix down to blend (it gets quite thin and is easy to blend/taper) then using the same mix go over the highest points to strengthen the effect and finally add more gold and do your top highlights then wash the whole armour with Biel tan green I'd love to see someone actually try this and show me so I can see if what I say makes sense?
Now today I'm washing the rest of the warband for Whaley and working on some faces, I'm struggling to get a decent tutorial that is clear and in focus so I might just paint my new head today got them from Puppetswar and the quality is good and the postage was faster than last time!
until this afternoon........

Post by: whalemusic360
I wonder if colors like blue and purple would work better with silver instead of gold?
15297
Post by: Ramos Asura
That would make sense, actually. You see what you're doing is suspending the metal flakes in the colored layers. The gold works so well with the red because its a warm tone of color, and so well with the green because it's a component of green (gold being yellow). Mixing it with blue (or even purple) might actually start turning it a little green where you dont want it. Silver would get you that neutral color but also the metallic shine. Kinda get what Im thinking? Sounds like it calls for some test marines, Damo

Thank you my friends! I still am so happy with Vulkan he really worked out nicely! might have to do myself a salamanders 30K army one day? would look really different with that paint too!
the paint racks are from CNC Miniature Scenery and they were easy if fiddly to assemble but totally worth it and now my station is much neater and more organised even if I did also realise I own lots of Yellow paints in different shades yet I hardly use the colour
What are you crazy fools talking about my mug for? isn't it normal for one's partner to get mugs printed with your dogs faces on different bodies? that was my fathers day pressie from the fuzzy kids, Issabella is Wonder Woman in the middle, to the left Superman is William and on the right Batman is Oscar the Dark Bite...... I now have a collection i'll show you one day

Little boring update on some WIP
I started to paint some more bare heads but haven't had any more time for a tutorial yet as I want to do a good one for once so until then I'll just show you wher I'm at.
went a fair way into getting some main colours down on the rest of the warband. these lot are having pale armour accented with gold and red cloth accents.
I am probably going to regret this and most likely get scolded by Whaley but here's a teaser of a new passion project from me! you all know I like to plan ahead and sometimes something grabs my eye and inspires me to begin a bigger project, well I found these online and then went looking around as if I were to actually build a small force. Sooooooo I'm planning a predominantly 30k inspired mechanicum army!
now for your input, metal areas are to be all dark brass and gold with red lenses but what colour do I use for the armour and robes? I'm steering away from red as I've got enough red marines but I'm not sure what else will look good? I have a feeling a dirty bone would look nice like I used on Mortarion? or a pale green like necrotic flesh from Army Painter? or even a yellow? but then I don't know how that fits with a Forgeworld!?
do you want to know what I got? (I know, I know Whaley I said i'd wait.....)
Thanatar Calix siege automata
Thanatar siege automata
6 Thallax automata
Magos Dominus
Tech priest
Myrmidon Destructors

Lenses were a scab red base then a bit of blood red mixed in and highlighted along the lower part of the lenses, then just red, then orange then a watered yellow to glaze over it all, then I washed it with sepia and when dry a dot of white in the top followed by a coat of ardcoat.

I'd say get along with the Phosphors. Guns look a bit better, but Phosphor is fine.
Then again (just an idea) if you use them as stand-ins, you could easily just mix the two guns into one. Maybe even add an ammo belt from 3rd parties, and put the bolter barrel on the Phosphor gun, somehow underneath.
And maybe some cogs/gears to look like blades protruding from the fist.

So what are the main differences in weapons and load on the castellax? I've seen them with bolters and buzz saws and the shoulder gun? is the shoulder one phosphor?

Post by: ciuncky
Sorry mate, haven't been reading a lot about those. I'm not sure it is phosphor, but i think Forgeworld's listing specifies what they are armed with. Maybe that will help to get a better idea and see how to convert them

Post by: Januine
FW has 3 types of castellax. Shoulder mounted mauler bolt cannon and wrist mounted bolters(or flamers). Power saws guy comes with a shoulder mounted multi melta and again bolter/flamer wrist guns. 3rd variant has a darkfire shoulder mount and saw wrist weapons as per usual.
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
O.k so as i'm using the Kastelan robots as my stand ins the easiest option for me conversion and game wise would be to make the shoulder guns maulers and convert some flamers or bolters onto the arms? probably bolters as they're not real fast.
91816
Post by: Januine
they come with bolters/flamers as standard. The shoulder weapons are pretty easily converted too. I really didn't like the old style mulitmelta on mine so I converted it to an eradication ray. Lovely lovely figs though. Thinking about getting a few more but want to get the Thanatar automata first - now that IS a beast
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Hell yeah it's a beast! I have been drooling over it for a while and finally made the jump to buy some! I'm looking forward to really painting them all a little different to the norm for me too, trying to decide on how to paint the 'faces' of them? just standard metals? or as a gemstone? or hot metal? or with light creeping through the lines? or metal fading into heat dissipation?

Looking forward to the mechanicus army as I am working on something very similar. Are those the Wargame Exclusive Kastellan heads? They look so much better than the standard ones although I am a bit miffed that you got them as I wanted to be the first Dakkite to use them .

I thought about a GoPro but was worried as I haven't any experience with them and they don't have a screen to check what you're filming or zoom etc? and I don't want to drop a couple of hundred and then not be able to use it properly! i've asked around about them but most answers were from those with some technical knowledge and i'm sorely lacking in that department! that's why i'm starting a 30K Mechanicus army in the vain hope some tech priest incantations will rub off on me!
weetyskemian44 wrote:Brilliant work nerdfest. Those are the old 90s servitors aren't they?
Yep, pretty sure they are Weets, i'm doing them for Whaley and his warband. The models are really cool actually and the slack faces are my favorite part, they look pretty much expressionless.

Really great work on the warband, nerd. Love the washed out, gritty colors you've got on them. And the skin tones go without saying!
I really really like the Jokaero, too... Great idea with the color link between his goggles and his finger.
Termi heads really have a lot of character. Makes them look like they've seen some rough battles.

That Inquisitorial Warband is looking pretty bloody nice, Damo. I really like your ability to stay focused and on task. Hopefully I'll be able to do the same sometime in 2016.
As for the Mechanicum colour scheme - do you know what you plan to do with your eventual 30k force? I've seen quite a few good looking forces painted in colours that echo the Space Marine Legions that they are attached to, and it tends to look pretty nice.

Thans Ramos, I choose my heads carefully especially for my FE's I want them to look a little unhinged on some of them which is a nice contrast to the fact the BA and successor's can be quite ornate and gilded.

Well, quite simply........ Iron Hands..... hands down and as far as staying focused on a task I kind of have to when I'm doing something for someone else, as I get only a few hours in a day one day a week and if I get too distracted and go back and forth I take too long to do anyhting for my mates so I like to set my goals and finish projects before I get stuck into my own models. which leads me into the fact that the war band are done and soon I'll be terminating and Mechanicuming it up!
pics tomorrow!

Post by: nerdfest09
Phew! Warband is DONE! these were some tricksy little blighters and I'm not 100% happy with a few of them, namely the assassin models but as a whole the group fits nicely and looks impressive the Inquisitors are cool and the Jaekero is really cute I actually like the acolytes? kinda creepy and suit the rougher style I did them in
So that's the end of my commissions at the moment I've some SH Termies to do for Whaley but they're not an immediate concern so they'll get love a bit later.
not sure what's next but I'm pretty sure it'll be my Flesh eater Terminators for my Armies on Parade entry board and some FW assembly.......
Hope they're o.k guys......

Loving the power sword on your Inquisitor. I struggle with painting the crackling energy on power weapons, so I just tend to put a glaze of Guilliman Blue on the weapon. (or other colour depending on the weapon/faction)

Post by: nerdfest09
Well Angel, you can use that to do what i do! just paint a base colour in my case purple, then purple and white mix to start the lightning then make it lighter in parts then wash with wash, then re lightning in parts and wash again. repeat until happy ;-)

Umm it's actually the 4th annual Nerdcademy award guys! and I can safely say that Gits' pipe dream is simply that, a dream as it's now cemented in as 3rd prize forever more to have a stylish black&white 'Nerd's Nudes'
I've got the 1st prize, obviously before it's finished and 3rd will come soon so once I find something for 2nd place and work out a theme and judges we'll be good to go! not much at all.....
so what are some interesting ideas this year? I was thinking theming it with a title like
* 'hold the line, never falter'
* 'No,no, no, nooooo'
* 'gak! that was close!'
* 'Look to me brothers for we will prevail'
* 'Thank you brother'
and just seeing how everyone interprets them on a 40mm base how's that sit with everyone? also anyone who wishes to put forward themselves as a judge please make yourself known.
I did some painting today on my Terminators and managed to finish the red armour on all of them but by the time I got to photographing them it was too poor light and the shots I took were utter bollocks not worth trying to adjust to show you so i'll do it again in the morning with some better light for reds, it's such a bitch to take pics off nicely!

Very nice Damo. Can't tell you how excited I am to see your army come together. Here was my plan.
Legio Cybernetica:
HQ: 2 Archmagos
EL: 1-2 groups of tech priests w/ 4 servitors
TP: 2x2 Castellax
TP: 20 Covenant
TP: 2x6 Thallax
HV: 2 Thanatar
Even with the Covenant there's far fewer models than a typical army of mine and should look great and be really fun to play. No FA but I'm not sure it's necessary given the rest of the army. I suppose time will tell. I do really like the vorax though.

Well, I developed my list during a running conversation with YouTuber winters SEO who's been playing 30k AdMech for a long time. He makes fantastic battle reports. Here's a link to a few featuring his army. Will give you a really good idea how they play. I love winter's bat reps. Beautiful table and models. Short on dice rolling and long on narrative. I don't see anything about your list that isn't viable, so you should be fine. Spoilered YouTube links below so they don't monopolize your blog. Enjoy!

O.k i'm just brainstorming here a few ideas for my 30k Mech project. as you know i'm very dominant with whatever theme I choose whether it's colour of the force, style of painting or additions and conversions.
Since I don't feel the Forge World models require any conversions I'll be leaving them well enough alone all bar a few extra mechandendrites etc.
So that leaves how I paint them to make them something cool and eye catching. I was thinking along a few things and I have decided the metals will all be mainly the gold/brass as I did on Kiera Knightly so that leaves a nice chunk of armour plates to be a different colour, The colours I am toying with is an army green sort of a khaki with the addition of serial numbers and designations so they almost look military? or a havily weathered bone/off white such as I did on Mortarian, this was my original idea but I'm not sure I can get it correct across the board? now my last idea and the one I'm leaning towards as I've not seen it yet is to have the underlying theme of my Mechanicus force to be Monks :-) this will mean brown robes and earthy tones hopefully with a good choice of coloured lenses in either a red or a cool grey (sort of like glass)
I'd love to know your thoughts on this so I can begin the planning phase and get some shots up (you'll wet with excitement when you see them all)

The Blood Angels are coming along nicely.
Re mechanicus, they"re certainly gorgeous models. I think the bone/off white would be really cool and very eye catching. The brown doesn't excite me...although I'm not exactly sure what you're seeing in your mind's eye...

I play my 30K forces vs. 40K forces on a regular basis. The only thing that we don't get, and I am not saddened by, is formations.
Stay the course, build the hell out of that Mechanicum force and trounce your 40K opponents!
And I am building a Mechanicum force myself, and seeing you paint one up for play is motivation for me to paint. I own, but have not painted:
2000pts
+ Headquarters*
- Magos Dominus
*Troops*
- 20 × Adsecularis Covenant
- 9 × Thallax Cohort
*Elites*
- 6 × Myrmidon Secutors
*Heavy Support*
- 1 × Thanatar Class Siege-automata
Questoris Knight Crusade Army - Allied Detachment
*Headquarters*
- Archmagos Draykava
*Troops*
- Scion Martial Cerastus Knight-Lancer
Build, keep and conquer!

Post by: nerdfest09
I could keep them I know and just have them as a collection or display and Combat Engineer makes a point that I 'can' still play them if I want to as my games are only ever with mates and nothing serious :-) but I do need to get some mode of transport and to be honest this seemed like a best of both worlds scenario where I have them already *check* I love the look of them *check* I want to paint them really well *check* I want desperately for others to enjoy my journey with them *check* I need a way to make some money *check* I have something that is potentially worth $1000. *check*
So, I'll bring them to the fore rapidly and lavish some love on them, with your help and guidance and comments I can be directed to paint something great! then hopefully if anyone anywhere thinks anyone may be interested in the army they can just contact me and offer me whatever! :-) then everyone's happy campers!

This probably won't interest many but it could just be a spur in the side of someone keen to start mechanicus? you know how I was/am planning on painting up the FW Mech army and then sell it to buy a new car? well, I found and bought one cheap that is really great condition! so while I still need to sell the army to pay for it properly I only need to get a fraction of what I originally intended, so if you or any mates are thinking about it please msg an offer to me and if I say yes, you'll get a fully painted Mechanicus force for a good price! :-)

Good luck on the Mechanicus project and finding a home for them.
When you hoping to start? And more importantly when can we expect some piccies

Thanks Cheesy! hoping to start next week if my spare parts have arrived by then, fingers crossed! and of course pics will be soon after! I've nearly finished my Flesh Eaters Terminator squad for my AoP board but they're at that limbo stage where they're nearly finished enough to be finished so if I took pics they wouldn't show enough progress when they're done! :-) yeah, get ya head around that one.....

I'll take it to messenger to work that out.
I know you already came up with a scheme, but did you see this new knight on FW? Apparently it will be an official Dark Mechanicus faction compete with transfers and the like. Thought it might tickle your death wing funnybone and looks pretty killer.

I wanted to do Dark Mechanicus myself. Are their rumors of them developing rules for such?

Dark Mech rules are coming in either the next or next-but-one HH book, there's some details from the Open Day in the FW N&R thread.

Cheer guys! I am really really pumped that I won the comp and the feedback from some of the guys in the store was really positive and they were quite keen to find out how I did things, I didn't think hiding in my Nerd room painting was that exciting to those who are actively involved in the hobby in stores, playing and painting with others to encourage them along but I'm pleased they wanted to talk to me and a couple seemed really cool and we've discussed a learning game with a few of us :-)

Wow, those two are awesome so far! How do you paint this well and this fast? The use of a streaky dark blue to get that instant verdigris effect is superb! Personally, I'd suggest a teal/cyan for the lenses and such, I think a nice cold blue would really stand out against the warm reds and brass. I'd take the orange a shade or two brighter, no more than that on these as so far I think they're brilliantly gritty and beat-up! On that note, battle damage up to 11 on the big guys, dial it down a bit for the smaller fellas. So to clarify, the orange is just a thick glaze over metal? I've got to try that at some point!
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Yep mate I figured that washes stain and bring out the detail and watered paint would essentially do the same albeit with a chalky finish and it works well if you choose where and when you use it :-)

Congrats and well deserved on the AoP win. It's a great looking army and board! The AdMech are looking amazing, even unpainted. I can't wait to see how they turn out.
Of course, the dogs somehow manage to pip even the Blood Angels and AdMech. Beautiful beasts you have there, and that's coming from an avowed cat guy.

I like. I would bring the orange out a bit more. The metals are stunning. I will have to steal this.

Post by: whalemusic360
I think making the orange more orange-y helps make the black (assuming you are going to add black) really pop. Really like the metals, has a "been in the field" look.
For lenses, I think a light blue would work well, contrast the orange.
Did you want me to send you Ryza transfers? Might be hard to add them on later and look the same level of weathered.

Ahhhh Sweet, sweet nerdpainting....
Firstly, big BIG congrats on the win! That's a handy feather in your cap and a testament to your skills! I'm very jealous of you....
Now the AdMech! Pity to see you parting with it, but its good that its going to a great home! (plus this way Ill eventually be able to see it in person!)
Im thrilled to see you tackling the big boys first... Love those models, and your painting is doing them justice for sure. Very interesting use of the washes to get an oily, grimy base. Even more interesting seeing the orange areas just being what is essentially a shade, letting the grime underneath through. I would like to see them a little more towards the orange end of things (currently look more red than orange), but that's just my own personal taste.
I get a very construction vehicle vibe from these guys. Nicely worn and used looking. Like you mentioned, I think the belly plates are just a liiiittle too scratched up, but I think that you could get away with it without having to repaint anything. I dont think that you need to darken them or anything either. They work very nicely with the rest of the colors.
Lastly, lenses I'd do in teal- that would really stand out from the orange and metal.
Ugh... the speed at which you can pump these things out....
Gorgeous work, nerd!

The scratching looks great, Perhaps a bit bright in one or two spots (I'd tone it down on the heads just a tad) but as an effect it definitely works.

Post by: whalemusic360
I'll hit up Ramos about the transfers, he is really good at getting them on there without looking like transfers.
I like the scratches, even if there are a bit more of them then I would have gone with. Like Ramos said, makes them look more like machines and less like soldiers.
With a slight thread hijack, Nerd and I are talking about this new HH plastic box set, and doing a small HH force to go with one of the Primarchs. So the question is which one? It would be the contents of the plastic box (so Mk IV armor) with most likely a few other additions. Question here because the Nerdman will be painting it up next year some time.

Salamanders. Absolutely Salamanders!
Firstly, itd give nerd a different color to paint (seein as hes been favoring the warmer reds and oranges lately), and though I dont know if you guysd want to go the crazy green gold color on everyone, but that could be really wicked as a force!
In any case, Im a fan of green

I'd like to see Nerdy's take on The Emperor's Children, they are a legion that looks stunning when done right, and especially in MkIV... And if you ever add some stuff all their FW unique units are beautiful!

Only 3 people have opinions on a Nerdfested HH army? Figured there'd be more. I was kind leaning towards EC, because I have a few extra things for them already and they are a MK IV heavy army. But I also like Salis because they could be used up to 40k as well. 1st world problems.

Splendid stuff! The orange definitely works and will be even better once you weather it, and the lenses are cool. I personally would have taken them a bit brighter just for more contrast, but the glassy look does suit them.

If it's not too late, I reckon you do either Sallies or Dark Angels. I say Salamanders because I think the scheme you did on Vulkan is absolutely amazing, and would love to see you do up a whole army of Salamanders, but I say DA because they're my favourite legion by far and I think it'd be awesome to see them (also you'd definitely show up my incoming 30k Angels )

I've been wracking my head trying to decide what to do with the plasma mortar. The 'powering up' effect looks awesome. The hood ring for the mortar that will cover that up a bit - have you thought about opening it up; like petals. Seen a few folk online have done that. Makes it look like its about to fire

Who needs LED's when you can paint like that.
Energy looks amazing, and the genestealers "mouth" looks bloody awful in the best way possible.

Ohh, plasma charge looks cool. Definitely get the charging up a big shot look ala Gundams. Maybe something like this for adding black?
Added it to the back side of the front half of the shoulder pad, offset on the groin, and on the forearm plate, to break up the metals. Behold and cower at my MS paint skillz!

Post by: Gitsplitta
Damo, your brilliant. One of the most innovative painters on Dakka. The gene stealer is inspired. Who wouldn't love that figure in their army? The mortar effect is equally so and utterly unique in my considerable experience. I will be trying to replicate it on mine.

Lol robot cats in top hats!? now I want to watch Samurai Pizza cats (Oh yeah!)
O.k I can see how some black will add a bit of Ooomph to the big guys, I shall add a stripe to the pad and a stripe to the groin to start and see how it looks took me a while to reply as I had to claw my way back into the room after being blown away by Whaley's MS Paint skills!
Now for a little finished model action! gotta say I really love this guys paint job, I want him as an objective marker or fleeing imperial soldier. I left his base very basic on purpose with just a grey and oily black wash so I can use him on an urban board when it arrives!
Lieutenant Varras
Can I get a bit mushy on you guys for a minute? I really want to touch on how a few people have (over the years I've been plogging) mentioned me 'Pushing boundaries' or 'doing things i've never thought' and I only have tried new things because of you, I appreciate the time you spend logging on and actually being a part of my blog and during the early stages I saw some great techniques and brilliant artists doing things that looked so good but I didn't want to 'try' and copy them and end up doing a sub par job that you could see better on someone else's blog, this kind of led me to trying to bend the look of what was done commonly in effect and application to give you something new and hopefully something that actually looks cool and makes you want to do it yourself! nothing I do is particularly hard to replicate or time consuming and I will continue to stay the course with my painting style and endevour to give you guys something cool and a place to talk and bounce ideas and your own methods with each other! so thank you for your loyalty and candor with everything I do and thank you for staying around from the start!

The powering-up effect on the gun rocks. If it's not too late, maybe adding some light shine on the inner ring of the muzzle? to reinforce it even a bit more?

Cheers guys, i'm really enjoying painting them up and after a complete re arrange of my Nerd lair and boxing up of my models for storage so it's all neat and tidy I'm feeling a bit more 'into it' again. The light's better with my desk around the other way and the morning sun isn't oppressive so I can paint at my favorite time of day :-)
I'm going to do some weathering on the orange parts next, I had intentions of going full nasty on them but I think now seeing them like this at this stage I'll pull back and do some paint chips and just some edge weathering? I have it in my head that the main armour plates are changeable and the enginseers swap them out after too much damage, thus leaving the main robotic body more scratched while the fresher armour begins anew?
