I do like the look of it though and I think it will turn out grouse looking if you manage to achieve the same level of detail model wide.

Lol thanks snrub! with the dread I am trying to sort of find faster was to get tabletop mini's anyone can do, it's working so far and washing around the raised details even at this stage has produced a good look so i'll try and base coat all the main colours soon and see how we fare!

Ghazzy will either get a new head (most probably) or if he keeps that one i'll fix the surrounding up before I glue his head in permanently

hopefully swirly Bjorn will work and look like I hope, I just re read all the SW Novels and kinda got inspired a bit, I had these images of a really light coloured almost white Space Wolves with a wet dirty feel to them around the legs and cloaks, tattoos on the bare skin where you see it on scouts etc. so in order to NOT do that I had to do a model to convince myself I don't have time for another project this year (remember I still have Celestial Lions accusingly looking at me! )

Though I know the Dready and fantasy troops will get nice work and all as it is you Nerdy, I must say I focused on the detailing that you did on Ghazzy there. he looks very nice! can't wait to see the work in paint you do on him!

Onto the boss!! Dude, that is beast. IMO a Warboss needs to look like he's I in charge because he will kick your face in, and you pulled that off perfectly! He just dwarfs that marine. Can't wait to see some paint

Needing input guys. no doubt at all i'll be grabbing some Dakkajets for my army but I'm not a military man so have no real point to focus them on? what sort of theme as far as era of war do you associate my BloodAxe's with? I want to do some converting of the plane but want to get the feel or design right. :-) any ideas, photo's and advice are welcome!

Id say look toward the mid 20th century.

Biggest things you probably want to look at are swept and straight wings. None of those fancy-pants delta or blended wings. The chunkier and less aerodynamic-looking, the better!
I also favor the nose intakes and a central-mounted engine/engine cluster. Works nicely with some big ol' teeth and jagged metal areas.

As above. The Dakkajets are a direct rip-off of the Korean-War-Era fighters of the US and USSR. You'll want 1:35th scale for Ork. 1:48th is now too small for GW's super-heroic scale.

Paint it red on top so it goes faster, purple on the bottom so it's sneaky.

And a blue shamrock on the wing for luck.

The kit has multiple ways to build them. You'll find no shortage of ways to orkify them to your tastes.

I like the Mig 15 / 17 or the Sabres as mentioned.

However , for consideration , I give you the Me 262.

I plan on using these for Traitor Guard at some point but would look great with Orks hanging out of it !

I agree with big h. I always imagined blood Axes to be on the German side of things as far as designand style. I think olive drabs, Greys, a super dark contrast color...and you've got a recipe for some super cool orks with a twist not often done. My 2 cents.

After much discussion with my Mentor Gitsplitta I decided to stylize my 'SpitfiWaaaaaaagh!!' and not try and run before I can walk in terms of conversions So with some basic mods and design cues I have assembled my first Dakkajet! I added some more iron patchwork to the body and drilled and added rivets from the heads of small brass nails, (and yes it took ages!) but my favorite part was working out something to add that little flair of character to it, something to laugh and look at a little story if you will ...you will see soon

So, here's the set up, the assembled Jet.




and now for my favorite part, that little story......

yep, i've got a Grot hanging on to the wing for dear life, fingernail marks scratched deep into the paintwork as he holds a paintbrush which he was using (or will be using) to paint the planes markings! his look of terror frozen on his little face!



and now I've primed it in a similar scheme to the Spitfires of old (or SpitfiWaaaaaghs!!) including painting the underside in a light blue and adding camo stripes.





I love that little grot......

And what's this?.....yes, I do believe it's Gitsplittas Ork Cyborksquad! YAYYYYY!!!! and look they're now primed and ready for washing, looks like it's wash and paint day tomorrow for me! LittleH's and Gits stuff right up on the cue ready to rock!


and by now you may have figured I like to get ahead of myself sometimes right? well, I managed to somehow in the scant few minutes before and after work each day assemble 32 more Ork Boyz, all converted in some way with parts and posing! and yes, you are also correct due to me lavishing each model with individuality you WILL eventually be seeing each one photographed in turn so you can see their personality!

where do I start? Yes there's lots of stuff there but it's not really anything super exciting, just really a way to touch base and show you what's happening in the Nerdlair the Stompa (a plastic one) is gonna be a a while away yet I am kind of organizing my work so I can just pick up the next project and go when the mood takes me. I have promised myself that I'm not painting any of my Orks until I finish some things for other friends first so I will be finishing LittleH's mini's and Gits Ork Cyborks then I may do some of my own stuff before I tackle something I haven't done in a while! another Primarch model Vulkan is here in my room waiting to be painted to a level I hope exceeds my previous work if my ideas work.

I have finished 2 more of LittleH's mini's only 3 more Dwarves to go! then the second lot of his to do. the Dark elf sorceress& the Dwarf slayer!




I know a lot of these shots are nearly the same but I couldn't decide which ones to use








I managed to start my base for Ghazzy too, I won't be doing him until I get some head(s) from Gits......... sorry..... *ahem* as I was saying I have been generously offered some heads to try out for Ghaz by Gits and will probably paint him up as a figurehead when i get back to my stuff but in the meantime I worked on his base.

Which is really cool BTW because this is one of the few prop planes to have ever shot down a jet fighter in a dog fight. There have been lots really, but this thing shot down a MIG!! in Korea in the 60's. Extra kudos I recon.

Hi guys, I had a really rough day today and nearly lost my gak with a workmate who just grinds my gears and is a rather negative influence.

but it was all made extremely shallow in comparison when I went home and had a suprise package waiting for me from Cam!!! wasn't expecting that at ALL! and what was inside? only one of my favorite Cam built models i've ever seen! the OrkChoppa! I can't thank you enough Cam for such a generous gift and I will be using it as a Dakkajet I am also going to be a good Warlord and change some heads and give her an Airwolf paintjob! I can't believe anyone thought enough of me to give me not only such a simply amazing model but use their hard earned money to post it! I am humbled and excited to be painting this Choppa!




I also have some things on the prime board for tomorrow, added some more gubbinz to my Trukk including an armoured windscreen and a helpful (if poorly photographed) Grot hanging onto the strap tightening the roll onto the side!



I did get something else it may be Nerdy, and it may also be awesome!

Really like that chopper conversion. Very subtlety not a modern helicopter. Little H's dwarves look fantastic too. Very excited to see those cyber orks again now that they've officially made the painting que.

Do you mean the dwarf with the red beard or the orange beard? Because redbeard is my least favourite sculpt of the three. He just seems... I dunno. Kinda smushed compared to the other two.

This is way preemptive but I don't know how to organise an actual poll? I'm thinking about 2016 already and have a couple of ideas I want to put out there for you guys to help me decide on one!?

Idea #1: A combined Iron Hands and or Mechanicum army using some 3rd party models (Anvil,HiTech) Forgeworld and GW? (i'll need some kind of army list to work to)

Idea #2: A 30k army of Death Guard (again I'll need a list to work to)

Idea #3: Nurgle force using aftermarket and FW bits, lots of bare heads taken from standard kits and painted to look sickly (I could just wing that list)

Idea #4: everything I paint is for all you guys! the whole year you send me stuff as we go so I get a bunch of small different projects/commissions ? (woo no list)

Idea #5: Crimson Fists to go against my Orks? (Oh look I will need another list)

So, if you can all help me out I'd like to start planning and saving for whatever we choose! feel free to add your own visions and ideas as you see fit!

I gotta say (and I doubt I'm alone here) I really don't care what you do. In that I'd be happy to see you slap a coat of paint on just about anything.

Cus I would love to see you do DKoK, but you probably don't mean that.

I would also love to see your take on Nurgle too.

But I am sure anything you choose to do will be amazing.

I think they all have merit.

1. Would be nice to see some admech to match your Knight, and the Iron Hands supplement would be a different flavor of SM.

2. The job you did on old Morty in army form would be something nifty. Plus if is useful for 30k games, if you ever had the chance to play one.

3. This would be a good way to take what you've learned form Orks and further refine it. Would also let you try some more new stuff to add to your bag of tricks. Get to do some Power Armor and some Daemons, could be fun.

4. Very low cost and higher variety. Would let you get your hands on models you wouldn't otherwise get. Plus if you asked for model donations, you could add to the Eaters and Orks, or maybe get an idea of what to work on next.

5. There. Are some cool Fist characters (Pedro, Lysander, the FW dude) that you can run some cool lists behind. A drop pod heavy vets list, for instance would play drastically different than your current list.

I notice all the options are marines of some type lol.

I think option one would give you a nice lot of different minis to paint.

Nice work on all of LittleH's models there, and the choppa is looking good.

I've not got to grips with what I'll be doing next week and you're planning next year...

1: Mechanicum army with many different models (and hopefully many conversions) would be nice to see. Good scope to make a unique army.

2: and/or 3: Nurgle would be interesting to see from you, especially after your Slaanesh army scarred us all for life.

4: Seeing many different things would be what I like to see. But couldn't you do this as well as one of the armies for yourself...?

5: Marines are not always the most exciting thing to see. But whatever you paint is a pleasure to look at. If they are going to be up against your Orks, you could do some unique modelling to tie the two armies together as rivals...

Righto guys, I've decided on my approach for 2016

I will not be starting another army I am going to mix it up by doing models for my friends to keep it fresh! and to go along with that I intend to actually FINISH my Flesh Eaters by adding a few small additions and touching every model up to be at my current standard so lots of red armour for ya!

The other thing I really need to pull my finger out on is terrain! I keep getting so inspired to start and build so I will be buying a Tablescapes Table from Secret Weapon miniatures and organising and finishing all the pieces I've started over the years that I still own

This year I will be finishing my Waaaaagh!! and boy oh boy is it gonna be a ride! I should have a glut of new additions soon to show you and i'm sure there will be doubters out there who say I can't do it but gosh darn it I will do it! (Whaley & Gits, you know the horde)

and speaking of Gits, please comment and check back tonight as I should have his models finished and about 30 pics to drown you in!

Sounds like a plan! I doubt you will have any issues getting as many projects as you want.

Have you fully acquired maximum hoard at this point? That is going to be impressive to see you churn through in the next 8 months.

Undoubtedly not... as there will be some additions coming from my direction to be sure.

What sort of Tablescape were you looking at getting Nerdy? I've got one of the urban ones and I can honestly say, you will not be disappointed at the quality.

I should be all good and happy to score some more from you Gits! especially as I just finished your squad of deranged Cyborks led by a Crazy Crazy Craaaaaaazy Bork! absolutely a hell of a fun squad to paint, using a bunch of different techniques and styles I used more advanced techniques to shadow the more basic areas and it really works with them all, I wanted a scrapyard feel, where they weren't exactly rusted and tacked together but for Orks they were pretty well constructed warriors.

the only stipulation I had from Gits was to make the leader look more deranged and insane than the leader of the deranged and inane society! think I did good!


























So, any favorites among that lot or parts you like that I can incorporate into my own models?

speaking of my own models I may have been fully hoarded up now!! I got some individual shots of them as I don't know what they all are and how to use them yet but I'll get every single Ork model I own tomorrow and take a snap or 2 if you want to see the Waaaagh!!!?

Between yours and gits efforts you have produced a very waggghhh squad indeed plus I like the scrap yard paint job turned out well, I think the choice of colour for the optical lenses was a clever touch especially on the leader makes it pop but still blends well with the scheme.

Hell of a hoard you got there matey but why no metal minis ?

You must give us a "how to" on the rust effect and how you do those lenses they really do look awesome

Cyborks looks great! I really like the block head boy at the end.

The first ? group is heavy weapon boys and what looks to be a few converted tankbustas. The second ? group is heavy weapon boys.

The original idea was for those to be my Aard Boyz Cybork shoot squad. Unfortunately, cyborks don't really exist any more, but all the extra cybork bits and extra armor plates I added/made do make them an excellent aard boy representation. Damo's fantastic paint job is just the icing on the cake!

All the makings of a proper Ork army. Looks great .

Looks like you have a big horde in progress there Damo.

That's going to be a lot of green skins to paint this year.

My only suggestion would be a few more bikerz, I don't think three will hold up to much.

Between yours and gits efforts you have produced a very waggghhh squad indeed plus I like the scrap yard paint job turned out well, I think the choice of colour for the optical lenses was a clever touch especially on the leader makes it pop but still blends well with the scheme.

Hell of a hoard you got there matey but why no metal minis ?

You must give us a "how to" on the rust effect and how you do those lenses they really do look awesome

Cheers LDD thanks for the props mate! I'm just not a huge fan of metal mini's I much prefer plastic or resin stuff for my own models. you want to know how I go about the dirty metal look? I think that will be the base colour for a lot of my army I think it'll look good all over a dread or Kans or stompa or even the vehicles with added colour splashes!

Hey dudes! got some more finished models for that young man LittleH gotta say these 3 worked nice! I tried a cartoonish approach to the lady on horseback and a more grim mechanicus style for the dice bearer, the Slaan I wanted saturated colour but his additions of feathers etc to be the brighter points of focus, his pics are probably not the most accurate but I hope BigH can verify he is indeed cool when he gets them

I tried a little different approach to the horses covering by trying to get a look reminiscent of silver stitched livery I painted it blue then with bright silver painted my designs over it, washed the entire lot with Girlyman blue and then went over the designs again with the silver using a thinner brush and different deigns in areas looks o.k I reckon!

Slaany McSlaan the skink with the most! actually a damn cool model and really individual!

The freehand is a nice detailed piece and lifts the whole model, also adding a regal feel to it .

I also love the dice bearer you have captured the grim darkness mechanicus theme perfectly, only problem is I want to get that miniature now damn it

As for the lizard nice paint job especially the feather adds a touch of brightness to the model I think little H will be more than happy

That die guy is great! Would be great to go on a knight base or something to keep track of hullpoints.

Thanks again guys! I'm pretty pleased with these mini's as a whole, they are all subtly different in painting and I think they pop enough for what they are intended for the barding? I think it looks acceptable if I go back to when I started the blog, my goal was to find methods and techniques that look good and can lift a model but were easy to do for anyone! and that horse blanket is just two washes and some silver paint! and that saves from lot and lots of blending!

I fink my Orky 'ome iz reely a orky 'ome now! we'ze been doin' a new back fence to keep the squig hounds in and we fought it a gud ideaz to make it reely orky so no one will mess wiv us eva!

as I mentioned I am copying Gits Cybork style I just did because I really like the simple feel and look to the metals. I washed them all again (inc Ghazzy) with Agrax/Sepia/black so that is the base worn metal colours, next I go back and highlight rivets and edges with pure metal and selectively wash again with orange and blacks




Now for Ghazzy! who I'm christening the 'Bulldozer of Blackstone!' after seeing pict vids of Terran construction on an imperial world he invaded, the image burned into his piggy little brain was of great machines plowing through forests an buildings, their dulled and worn yellow paint barely visable on the leading edges destroying all in the way! using this image he modeled himself in the same vein letting nothing stay his momentum!

So, hence you will see the start of this big bad mutha! he has select patches of muted yellow on him but I don't know if to add more? I don't want him to look like a Bad Moon! but I think when I get him a decent looking head and add a beret to it he'll fit into the army just nicely






I'm pretty happy so far! it's easy to get this look and i'll be using it on my vehicles as well but with more coloured army panels

Dread and khans look great so far your colour technique has to be admire works a treat plus screams ork to me

As to the Big Bad Mutha I think if you use the yellow sparingly and scratch / rust it up a bit it should be enough to stylise it with out labelling it as a Bad Moon allegiance.

I gather that's not the head you are using then ? Have you a head in mind then ?

If you don't find a head for him soon I will have to send you one for him damn it

I've done a heap to the Bulldozer of Blackstone and his armour is nearly done and the same for the Deff Dread and some more on the Kans but I don't know if just a bunch of pics of weathered scratched metals is going to really excite you!? :-( especially since I plan on having them all as mainly just weathered bare metals :-) which means I suppose that they're nearly done except the lenses and details like engine furnaces and random panel spots which won't be thrilling to only show you them later!

I have just about finished the metal parts on The Bulldozer of Blackstone! and the Dredd! my goal was to make them look 'heavy' like solid metal plates heavy! I think I've got it right lots of scratches to battle scar them and now it's the details to go! woo hooo!

I'll start with the Dredd, he's gonna be dead killy I reckon! what's the consensus on blood/old gore? should he have some added?








And the Bulldozer! he's gonna be sweeeeeet! looking forward to finishing him up and snapping some good shots! does he look enough like a battle hardened warlord?







So? do you guys think this will work across the force? vehicles as well? more chipped and dirty with more coloured panels I plan on doing? should be pretty fast to do when I line up a bunch of stuff and should look pretty good all arranged for Waaaaagh!!

That's so cool. Yeah, crusty old gore is a must.

The rust is spot on mate you have that nice mix of dusty, dirty, grubby, decaying rustic look

As to adding gore yes but I would not go mad maybe some on the Klaw and a little splatter up the arm, maybe some on the main body (like a splash back) but be sparing as sometimes it can get to much.
I think the colour should work well across your army, as to add a little difference here and there maybe add a splash of colour just break it up, but only on the odd panel like one dot of colour and make sure it is scratched and dented though as if a quick fix plate.

Have you considered making the Tusks on the dread actual ivory just to give a break of colour to it

Always love how your metals come out, nerd. Its just something about the extreme contrast of the rusty grimy metal and the super sharp scratches that really really works for me.
An entire force of these would be a sight to behold!!

I'd recommend the same advice as LDD about gore: Just a bit, but dont go overboard!

Quite a lot since I last checked in. The Cyborks look great, and I love the old, worn, rusted metal effect you used on both those and also on the Dreads, Kans and Ghaz. I'm also very impressed with the silver-stitched livery for the vampire. Very impressive stuff!

Your Orc weathering is great Damo ! Simple, effective , and all acrylic , Brilliant !

Lol SJM, I was literally just reading through your blog and thinking how nice YOUR rust looks! :-) like really just now!

the way I do this style of weathering is with a few simple steps.

prime entire model in metal army painter primer.

Then wash with Agrax, then nuln oil, then a watered down orange, then highlight edges and scratches using mithril or a bright silver, then I wash again with a couple more goes of Agrax and Nuln oil or maybe even a little sepia for some variation and just randomly apply scratches and edging in silver as I go! orange around the rivets etc and they're done

I'll have to give that a go when I move on to something more metallic, my models so far seem to be mostly fur and skin!

Really looks good, back of Ghazz power claw in particular.

Thanks dude! I appreciate it :-) I found painting the scratches and chips in between the washes makes it look deeper and more worn, plus if you want an edge on a blade you just leave it pure silver, or if you want more rusty then you add more orange wash, it's really forgiving!

What is this heresy of a sidetracked Damo!? i'll tell ya what it is, it's a Damo who's been reading Death of Antagonis and wanted to use his new metal technique to see if it can paint a metallic looking black weathered armour reminiscent of how I see the Black Dragons space marines I am pretty pleased with how they look too! excuse the actual models as they were rescued from my bits so there may be a line or two! but overall they're black, weathered and look dead 'ard! the bare head was an experiment in face painting as they are described in the book with a grey saurian looking skin if affected by the gene curse.

I think a squad is in order all together they'd look pretty good I think! not to mention they're fast to paint! real FAST! don't fret it's still Green 2015 but I had to delve into seeing if I could bring them to life........ I might make a Volos character.......

Not sure about the skin tone , they look ill ! Maybe it's the camera or maybe a wash of something is needed ??? Haven't read the book so probably entirely wrong !

I think they look fantastic damo... though the flesh is a bit pallid. (though it's not like there's none of THAT in the Imperium) However the flesh tone does match the feel of the rest of the paint job very well.

Thanks guys, the skin tone in the book is mentioned as grey on some brothers and their visage turns very reptilian/dragon with canines lengthened etc. so I went for a grey skin on one just to see :-) so fluff wise it works, other brothers will have normal skin and other more changed ones will have chaos-esque grey dragon skin!

Well, it's been a little while since I've managed to decently update you on my progress with the Greenskins! I shall make amends today and drown you in a glut of images followed by questions and more images!

what did I finish? I finished my 'Kan Wall' ....well, I finished 3 Kans and a Dread twas a simple technique but is something a little different than normal and while it looks simple overall if you really look closely at each model, the scratches and dents and weathering tells a story and is quite intricate I added oil along the pistons from 'ard coat and black drawing ink and gore with black ink & red ink mixed and a little 'ard coat

and the big boy! he's cool and as they say! 'Dead Killy'












Now for the next thing I received from Gitsplitta a few choice heads for my Bulldozer of Blackstone version of Ghazkhul Thrakka and they are amazingly cool and so full of awesome character I simply cannot decide which one suits my warlord and my theme the best? so I ask you all which one looks right at home? I have 2 which I prefer but I'll get to them in a minute!

head #1 I like this one as he looks sneaky and cunning and the goggles are kind of Kommando-ish

head#2 deranged and worn but not as much feeling?

head #3 I think this one is good with the jaw plate tying in with the Mega Armor fits nicely!

head#4 Crazy deranged head from Gits Cyborks! fits size wise well and the movement of the model matches but there's not enough skin shown to make a focal point.

head #5also a good tie in with the armor but isn't quite as menacing


O.k have at it! hope you like them and I'll be warlording it up soon!

I think you could easily make the skin a focal point still... Just paint it a level or two brighter or more intense than normal.

Agreed! Not to mention the colors you'll get from inside the mouth AND you can get creative with the metal parts around the jaw and head. Figure out how to paint the metal, metal, but in a different manner from the rest of the metal on the body.

The first squad of boyz are finished I did the skin and weapons as the focal points and sort of 'roughed in' the clothing so they can be painted easier for a horde of them! hopefully they work as a squad but still look good enough individually

I also chucked a pic of a Boy next to The Bulldozer to show the size difference!

I think next I will have to do a trukk so they have something to get them into the fray! hope you like these guys!

Some really characterful Orks!

Paint jobs look wonderful Nerdy but you need to do a little GSing on some of those shoulder seams.

The paint is great on these. I love how Ghazzy has come out, and I especially like the spear-fisher squaddie. Gits has a good point about the seams, though I'm sure it'll be fairly quick and easy to fix, despite being a pain in the arse.

These are the rustiest Orks I've ever seen. They are beautiful.

What's going on dudes!? been completely distracted and busy with other things these last few weeks but wanting to paint! I finally got to sit down today and get some brush time

I want to finish the models for LittleH so I can free myself for a non stop Vulkan-athon when his backpack arrives I primed them and started washing in the colours, so far it's one wash of each colour over the models, some look good even at this stage (Gandalf suits the style)










started on Bulldozers 'Bodyguards' heads today too! they are gonna be BEASTLY!


and a start on the Boyz Trukk too, not sure how to progress with it, more colour? more rust? more oil?

ahem, yes, zone mortalis.....got some more tiles made up and glued down ready for a full re prime when I get a spray gun only issue I may ask for help with is that as they were stored in a shed at my old place some boards I had already started have warped on some corners and now don't meet flush but I'm thinking I can maybe use a dremel tool to burr the edges down to simulate damage? or is it really going to be that much of a problem as far as looks go?

That zone mortalis board looks amazing Damo, I think the slightly warped corners look ok, I,m sure you would get some warpage in hulks.

I agree with GX. Maybe put some claw marks or something on the ground close by?

Love the zone mortalis board. The trukk is much too clean and too metallic looking for my tastes... but that's just me.

Just a few little images of my Zone board I added some more bits and pieces and some pipes and damage, it's coming together. I'll need to take some pics of the edges I fixed when I've more light. but once I find some cheap acrylic paint for a primer I'll start by re spraying the whole board to match as I work

Just kidding! I have some right here to show you! I finished the last of the models for LittleH's gaming pieces. They were fun too but a few sculpts proved problematic with soft or nil definition but I hope I still did them enough justice. I also tried a different approach to painting them with a softer palette and more of a washed look? was good to see them progress faster this way and I think it suits the theme of the miniatures well so all up I've done some different things with the bunch I had to paint and now they can be packed and sent off to young H

I love the softer colors you got on these guys. Definitely agree that its fitting. More realistic, I guess you could say. Fitting for fantasy minis, where you need those dustier colors.

And ORKS!!! Damn it man do I love how you paint your skin colors... And the metals work perfectly with it, too.
Lastly, I love the Zone Mortalis board. For the warped floors, just a bit of sanding or chipping with a dremel and you should be perfectly set! Add in some claw marks and I think you'll have a really good table with a story behind it.

Hey Hey Ramos, you have been super productive with your chorus line of Knights (yeah I've been there ) and put me to shame with my own stuff so I HAD to paint something! the washier look does fit the fantasy style on these models and is easier due to the detail size on them, if I were to paint Infinity i'd do the same I think. I just need to get an automotive touch up gun to spray the zone mortalis then I can start detailing it with the airbrush

Trukk fo meh boyz finally got sum transport for 'em! went for a cobbled together metal look with a few spots of colour on some panels heavy mudded and with some rust on weldy points and smoke stains where the exhaust would belch rancid black soot! tried to get some plates to look more like heavy iron with a light light drybrush of metal.

deez boyz are gunna ride in style!

Wonderful work Damo. Da boyz 'as got dere wheelz! Perfect match for the squad's paint job too.

I was also asked by Whaley to 'chuck some paint' on a Stompa i'm giving him and I started weathering the metals, which is pretty much all of it! I think for a quick session it's starting to come along nicely, i'm actually pretty pleased
since he's got Death Skulls I popped a little blue on random plates which i'll accentuate when I do some details.

Excellent work on the stompa. You can still get the "theme" of the piece in spite of the rust & weathering, which I think is all too often lost is pieces like this.

The trukk looks like a solid foundation to build from for the other vehicles. Should look good with a whole livestock auctions worth of them calming across the table. At least one needs to be lowered and have a Honda badge.

Stompa looks good too. Should be the big, venerable machine an Ork Titan would be. I can't imagine the greenskins would have it have it shined up like an Imperial Titan.

The Ork stuff is looking amazing, and the Board looks like it would be fantastic fun to play on. I also like the job you've done on the fantasy/LotR stuff as well.

He guys I got a package from Whaley and I was totally stoked! so stoked in fact I forgot to msg him and say thanks it was full of wonderful models and some suprises for myself such as the 2nd HH novel and the Crimson Fist anniversary model also tucked away was some SH Termies to paint for him as Lamenters so that'll be fun!

one thing I got was a couple of boxes of mega nobz! so I assembled them as The Bulldozer of Backstone's bodyguard I was a bit excited to get them and see what they looked like! dummied up the heads on them to see who's personality worked best with each body.

and I started laying base colours on an Inquisitorial warband for Whaley too, going to go dark and brooding on them with a touch of practical ostentation, a little smattering of Blanche and a dollop of Pyriel and they'll be good to go

anyway here's the Manz squad for perusal.










and here's a preview of the warband, reds, blacks and golds/bronze will feature.

Manz look good. I like the guy in the last pic, he looks grumpy, like he'd rather be doing something else.

My Inq models definitly aren't on the conversion scale for those high level guys, but I think they will work well enough for the table and display shelf.

Really cool stuff there Damo, and the ork heads are looking fantastic as normal!

Stompa looks great. Good job with all the different metals... Still looks cohesive, but creates that cobbled-together look without a riot of colour.

and Stompy McStompaton got some more riveting work with washes and weathering i'd say the main plates are just about done if Whaley thinks it looks o.k? next it'll be detailing and dirtying up a little and he should be pretty done I reckon! was going to be a quick brush job to get it looking good enough to send and game with but I kinda couldn't just do a half job for anyone.




and last but not least I got some new dice and gave them a test roll! seems that these ones may just may be good for me as they didn't roll too bad for me!

Oh damn! New dice that know how to let orks shoot! Those will do just fine. Everything is really top notch as usual but something did really grab my eye. The single plate on the stompa that is half blue half metal. The raw metal effect you did on that looks friggin NOICE dude, how did you manage that? It really looks like it's shrugged off bullets and maybe a missile or two.

the metal is pretty much just washes and silver paint and the ability to feel o.k about wiping wash off a model with your fingers i'll see if I can go into details when I do the MegaNobz.

Love the look of the inquisitional sqad Damo, think you nailed it perfectly!

Just while I've a few minutes spare i'll hit you with a brief rundown on my dirty metals :-)

start with a metal colour or metallic primer :-) then wash with agrax earthshade, then when dry wash with Nuln oil, then a watered orange over the lot. at this stage you can use your fingers to wipe some of the orange wash off so it makes the recesses kind of chalky (if that makes sense?) get you bright silver paint and with a very light touch just tickle the edges with paint and across the main panels and a touch on every rivet or nut/washer. then wash again with agrax earthshade then again with nuln oil, then follow with another silver edge chipping and scratch session! now you can add more orange wash for around the bolts and scratches you want rusty and drag some down for streaks, follow this with nuln oil in the darker parts you want accented and over the bolts and it's done!

Hey guys, I got some brush to model today finally So I went from silver primed MANZ to giving them a wash of Agrax earthshade then Nuln oil and then a watered down orange paint wash. Once it dried I picked edges out and scratches in silver. you can go a bit rough here because the subsequent washes will give this stage some depth.





While I waited for the washes to dry I got the reds done on the warband and a little chair work for Inquisitor lazy! thought he can be ostentatious enough to have a marble seat.





I was going to take more pics but my camera has an issue with the trash button and I haven't been able to delete any images off the flash cards needless to say they're both now full and i'm waiting for a new one to arrive before I can show you the other stuff

I also picked up a bargain I wasn't looking for not sure where to go with them though, I got Grey Knights a 5 man squad of marines and 10 Terminators and a dreadknight plus data cards the new codex and all the spares this guy had, when he comes to my town again he'll bring them up for me. I want a small force of them but high points I'll plan to do them with a dark metal look like I've been playing with but use Green as a spot colour on tabards and things? how about helmets? could I go with a green for something different?

If you hook the camera up to your computer with a USB cable, you can browse the flash card, and delete that way.

Nerdy's rust formula, so good it ought to be bottled!

Wow the skulls on that chair are amazing, well so is the rest but the way they glow, just so nice.

I just love your Orcs you manage to achieve a great essence of character to your models that fit their background perfectly, I also like the inquisitor band as well and the warmth of colour using a limited pallet

If you think it about it you have used similar tones between these 2 species and yet have achieved two distinctively different tones to the models, one grubby and wild the other organized and almost regal.

The red skulls on that chair are really awesome looking. They glow with malice...

There isn't much to say except i'm bloody happy with these guys and think I did a decent job of making them look like they're HEAVY! like solid plates of iron and steel heavy and been welded into these nigh impenetrable battle suits for decades, the metals tarnished and painted with the gore and fluids of uncountable battles against nameless foes across the span of the galaxy!

needless to say I love these guys! and now i'd love to see your thoughts on them! I hope individually i've instilled enough character in each one.

Thank you Az, I don't mind you repeating yourself they're all following a pretty similar scheme throughout so don't feel bad. I'm going to have to send you a Ork or two all gussied up to thank you for that Artemis model you so wonderfully suprised me with!

They are looking great though Damo, those heads do add a lot of character which suits your painting style excentley. My favourite is the one with the goggles on his head.

Chair of DOOOOOOM..... progress.....

sat down this morning and whiled the minutes until work with my brush in my hand a raging desire to make Whaleys models look good! I thought about the Inquisitor and how they operate, the dark baroque feel they have and what would suit the model?

I finished the gold/brassy parts and went to town on the scroll and pennants, my idea was to add a spot colour as if the scribe has been writing runes of warding or ancient litany's to attach to the chair. I'm liking where this is going now and should have him finished soon.

aaaaand I thought i'd open Vulkans box and get him ready for paint but when I opened the box I discovered that i'd missed half of Whaleys warband yesiree there they are another 14 odd models for painting lol! so Vulkan can stay lost for a bit longer.....

I like the seat of the chair of doom. But I must remember the "Comfy Chair" sketch from Monty Python every time it's deployed on the table. Is that leather you painted for the seat , hope he has air conditioning for that seat in summer time.....or when the sisters of battle are flaming away.

I wrote a cool short story about a planetary governor trying to escape from his palace only to have the wall turn to molten slag before his eyes and a giant dreadchair force its way through the still steaming hole,Inquisitor Karamazov with his dark and accusing eyes finding him cowering before he enacted the sentence of death....... But, bloody William jumped up next to me on the couch and was playing silly buggers and his the keyboard thus deleting my 35 minutes of typing

Just a little stop gap, but I picked up a bit of a bargain I didn't think i'd want and it arrived today and when I actually got them in my hands my mind rapidly changed! sooooo....now I'm the owner of Grey Knights and i've roughly worked a small list with what i got and I only need to buy 3 things to finish it!

* Draigo (need to buy)
* Terminator Libby (need to buy)
* 5 man strike squad with halberds(need to buy)
* 5 man strike squad with halberds
* 5 man Terminator squad with force swords and a Psycannon
* 5 man Terminator squad with force swords? and a Psycannon (these haven't been built yet so can change)
* Nemesis Dreadknight with sword and big flamer thing
* StromRaven Gunship
* Brotherhood champion (need to convert)

This way I can deep strike all of it if I.m reading correctly and just have some fun with my mates! gonna paint them in dirty dark metals with green and cream as spot colours and use the two bare heads from my Howling Griffon termies in these guys

That's a rather tidy list. You might see if you can change out some of the swords on those termies with either halberds or hammers. I may have some extra if you need them (not sure... PM me later and I'll go through my supplies).

I may as well. So I can get them to Git and he can get them to you

I have slightly changed my list by having 5 of the Termies with Halberds and my strike squads are now going to be two -5 man Purifier squads for fun and scorchy goodness!

also I finally went into the new GW store we got recently and they're having the armies on parade there :-) so I'm going to enter my Grey knights which will give me the inspiration and the possibility to actually win something (or at least place) should be a fun couple of month while I get that going as well! does anyone know if it needs to be purely a display or can it have an element of diorama about it? I've got some ideas but don't want to do something wrong!

Sounds exciting. I think its supposed to be an army display, dont hold me to that though.

Tastefully? No no no my friend you need to go a different route. Boob-demons of Slaanesh emerging from piles of cocaine, and Draigo off to one side with his face in a big bag of that sweet, sweet warp-dust.

I think you should go full daemon world. Fluff wise, it's the only reason Draigo would be there.
