The development of Space Hulk: Deathwing, the First Person Shooter for PC and consoles from StreumOn Studio, gains momentum, with the glimpses of the game’s first environments now emerging. Each and every one of the game’s element have been carefully crafted by the talented teams from StreumOn, with flawless regard for detail and respect for the Space Hulk license created by Games Workshop.
This is illustrated in the new trailer Rise of the Terminator. Supported by an original soundrack from band Kadebostany "Walking with a Ghost", its powerful images will immerse you in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Terminators and Genestealers come alive and clash together in a deadly struggle, and this is only beginning.
Space Hulk: Deathwing will release on consoles and PC.
As cool as this trailer is and I'm going to paraphrase a quote from Mr. Yahtzee of Zero Punctuation fame: "A pre-rendered CGI trailer is as useful of informing us about the game as them showing us the plastic they are going to use to wrap the box". I'm going to hold judgement until I see some actual gameplay footage.

Honestly I really enjoyed that choice of music. It's great not to have more dour hymnals or metal. Plus the trumpets at the end put me in the mind of spaghetti westerns which if that's what they're going for, I'm think I'm going to enjoy this.
That meets nothing. The "Meet the Team" videos of TF2 fame are made using the Source Engine too but they don't tell you much about the gameplay itself. I'm not saying that this game is going to be bad. Far from it. I think it has some promise. However, I am saying to not get too excited until we see the actual gameplay first.
I'm just walking with a ghost
And he's walking by my side
My soul is dancing on my cheek
I don't know where the exit is
I have short hair
And I'm faced with a few complications
So, so if you care
Try to analyse the situation
You know, man
As the leaves fall on the ground
My soul is goin'
Round and round and round
So please, do it well
Just break the spell
Why don't you do it right?
I don't want another fight
I'm not creatin'
My flow with my ego
I'm taking off my hood
And I'm entering deeply in the wood
Wut?
Who listened to this and thought "That's so applicable to genetically altered warriors fighting extragalactic monsters in a Gothic space rock!".
If they want to be clever and pick something that doesn't fit the tone they'll need to try harder. I hope this is just trailer music and doesn't get into the final game.
I hope they have a gameplay tailer on the way because it's a bit of a piss take that they've just produced this and there's nothing else to go on.
The visuals are fantastic, one hell of a trailer. The music's off because it's at a least 3 different styles that might have worked individually, but have been smushed together awkwardly. You can see why: ambient bit for the moody introductory shots, rapping as the action picks up and mariachi as it starts to look like a last stand a la Spaghetti Westerns. Unfortunately the transitions are too harsh and too quick for it to work.
But looks cool, at least better than Storm of Vengeance or basic Space Hulk - but the graphics look... weird. A bit stiff and sham. I hope final version will look better and smoother.
Anyway, another game beside Vermintide and Mordheim that I can put to my "Must-play" list in 40K/FB genre
HOOOOLY gak THAT MUSIC! Such a brilliant choice. At first I was like "huh"? Then I was like "OH GOD YES". Very inspired choice, I love that they went past the usual "epic strings" type of trailer music. Terminators are truly GANGSTA and also MARIACHI.
Oh and the band is Kadebostany, and now I'm buying their album.
Sixty Seconds To What? would have been a much more appropriate song if they wanted a Western feeling.
First forty seconds they could pan through the desolate halls of a vessel to the sound of the xylophone? It would be like exploring the sunken titanic except in the void of space, we could see a child's doll floating in the void, perhaps the desiccated husks of the passengers. The guitar builds tension further as we see the claw marks and acid burns on the interiors and other signs of tyranid infestation. Then they focus on a bulkhead door as the chorus comes in. At about 50 seconds a power fist tears it off the hinges and the organ is there greeting the Angels of Death as they enter the room. Then the trumpets come in and we see the captain staring down genestealers which are scuttling along the walls, floor, and ceiling. The two sides tear into each other with gunfire and claws.
Then you see the aftermath of the fight as the xylophone returns. Both sides completely wiped out.
As far as the music goes, I like it. It's not what I want to be hearing in the background while I'm in-game, but I think it'd work as backing track to the trailers/credits.
Can't believe the reaction to the music is so negative. Do you really want nothing but the tired old epic choir/The Rock soundtrack? I think it was a brilliant choice that really puts a different spin on the Space Marine concept. The music is at odds with the traditional image of gothic, grimdark epicness, which is why it works so well. Such a simple thing as a bold choice of music manages to make the Marines appear more human and show another side of the 40k universe, which is much more interesting to me than piling on the church organs and latin choirs like we see in every other trailer of this type. I must've watched it at least 10 times at this point, and it only gets better.
AlmightyWalrus wrote: Obligatory "don't Bolters use case-less ammunition?" comment. That's probably what bugged me the most.
Pretty much any piece of fluff mentions them not being case-less, afaik.
Black Library fluff, sure. But every single tech spec and diagram for bolters specifically calls bolt shells case-less.
However, that seems to be a relic of by gone days, as even GW's scenic bases and base elements include shells that are designed to really only be able to have come from 2 weapon styles: Bolters and Shootas.

Well, at least you get a cool trailer for your money Looks like they got the feel right, I'm interested to see the gameplay.

Probably, but there's no reason it has to be. The Unreal Engine is certainly capable of gorgeous visuals, and let's face it, Space Hulk is about as complex as Doom in terms of setting and AI requirements. FPS in dark creepy corridors is a pretty well established genre.

I respectfully disagree.
The music was corndog in my opinion. It was as if someone tacked it on in a panic and didn't even know what the whole song eventually morphed into. Much as someone hearing so9mething for the first time, liking the first part, but not listening to the whole song all the way through. It detracted from the total image of the trailer, and makes this game into just another gangster shoot them up grand theft auto stuff...
Might as well of used Die Antwood. At least it would have been a good sedgeway into the groups new robot movie, CHAPPIE.
I liked the music. It had a cinematic quality that led me to hope there might be more depth to the plot/characters than is typical for 40k licensed games. Probably won't come to anything, though.
All I can say is "Meh". Not impressed. This shows me nothing. It's another pretty or beautiful trailer but going to end in disappointment since the trailer is not actual game play.
It's going to be another 2am drunk at a dark bar and picking up a girl finding out the next morning she looks nothing like how you saw her the first time.
So again, Meh, not impressed.
Also the Genestealers look so freaking stupid with the tongue hanging out. Looks so out of place.
There were lots of biomorphs for Genestealers in the older codexes. We also had Genestealer hybrids from back in second edition. It is hardly a stretch.
Although i am sure i saw a Hormagaunt in there at one point.
Eh, I liked the music choice. Metal/Orchestral/Chanting get's boring after a while. This was new and different.
However I will agree that, lyrically, the song was a bad choice. Instrumentally it worked (for me).
The whole 'Last Stand' moment at the end worked perfectly for my tastes and I have to say this is one of the few trailers I have willing rewatched (several times, now) for a video game in ages... not just for a 40K game.
Joyboozer wrote: How do they get around the fact the game only has one basic enemy type and one boss?
Space Hulk: Ascension has a whole bunch of different 'stealer types (scything talon, acid maw, feeder tedril, flesh hook and so on), they'll probably do something similar here.
What's the weapon that's firing several shots of blue energy back to back at 0:41, and on the far left at 1:34? It's definitely not a plasma cannon, as that's shown later and firing green, but it does look like it has the plasma coil. The assault cannon, plasma cannon, and heavy flamer all make an appearance as well as whatever weapon that might be.
I'm 99% certain that it's a second Plasma Cannon, with them firing different colours in order to differentiate between the two terminators wielding them?

I wondered that myself. At first I thought a grav cannon or something. The thing is though, it's bang on for a plasma cannon.
-It's got the blue glowy heat sink/magnetic coils/whatever the feth they're supposed to be.
-It's got the Hydrogen fuel flasks
-It's got the wires and cables going every which-a-way.
-It's got the same barrel shrouding
-It even matches up with the plasma cannon that comes with the DW kit.
The only thing that doesn't entirely match up (but we can easily put this down to artistic licence) is the weird protruding barrel, which plasma cannons don't have.
The same goes for the green cannon. It's almost identical to the blue one, except that it's green and doesn't have the odd barrel. I took some screenies to compare.
I'm guessing though, we'll find out when we play the game.
What is more pressing to me, however, is the strange symbol on the Librarians belt. It's not one I recognise.
You can zoom in on the picture in the gallery. (Same with the above pictures too)

Developer already released a game. It's called EYE Divine Cybermancy. I've played it. Streum is a very small French indie studio.
I can tell that they were selected due to their love of excessively ornate armors. Cybermancy was a very obscure FPS with a complicated progression system and cryptic dialogue. It was rated well amongst old gamers hungry for some Deus Ex archaic FPS-RPG hybrid, but generally noted for a variety of flaws of the low budget variety. Looking at these trailers, Streum has been gifted with a huge budget and they have risen to the occasion. At least they have impressive modelers, but yes, I have some doubts that this game will even be playable. Suffice to say I think that Streum has talent and is a small, albeit extremely obscure developer worthy of supporting, especially in the event that this turns out to be playable.
EYE has been known to go on sale for 2 dollars on Steam in case anyone's curious.
Totally digging the cool music in the first trailer BrookM posted. It was wicked dope. Anyone know if this is a COD style of shooter or something a little more tactical... I think it would be dope if it was like Republic Commando or something. Or maybe like Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter.

I didn't realise it was the same developer. I love E.Y.E (got it for a singular dollar on steam a while back). I am now expecting even better things for this game.
I like the trailer visuals; the music lead-in and finale are great. Rap doesn't belong. Rap doesn't say "humanity's greatest soldiers." It says "useless thugs who belong in a pine box."
BairdEC wrote: I like the trailer visuals; the music lead-in and finale are great. Rap doesn't belong. Rap doesn't say "humanity's greatest soldiers." It says "useless thugs who belong in a pine box."
Yeah cause remarks like that don't reinforce the negative stereotypes of gamers as a whole.
The music is a change of pace which after years of the standard "epic" ambiguous ominous chanting gets old. At first I wanted to make a joke about how it would've been more appropriate for a Crimson Fist game but then I realized that's kinda crass and little better than Baird's comments. Take the audio as another instrument and the flow and pace of the music fits the trailer wonderfully. It makes me think of something like old westerns and final gunfights. As interesting as the Grimdark setting of 40k is any contiguous setting needs to have some updates in order to stay fresh and get new audience members interested. The Dark Angels used to have a strong American Native connotation which means a possible american southwest influence which again fits the instrumentals of the music, the rap is a stylistic choice and one I'm glad that the developers decided to take a chance with.
Baird the only way we change what certain music connotes with is to use better quality examples with more favorable imagery. To simply dismiss an entire genre due to what you personally connote it with is merely a generalization and a poor one at that. What rap says to you is not what it says to everyone so please keep your dismissive and offensive opinions to yourself rather than make sweeping statements.
Back on topic I'm just praying this game ends up the same quality as Space Marine (I never understand why I hear so much vitriol about it). Hopefully they don't radically change how terminators are supposed to move or crank up the speed just to make things "more exciting". I can also see a full tyranid infestation in this game, just cause the source material was just genestealers doesn't mean this space hulk has to be the exact same one.

And wat. People, bolters haven't been caseless in well over a decade. The models have EJECTOR PORTS for god's sake, not to mention the pictures of bolts in the RPG's, Imperial Armor, and the Codices have casings. Hell, the medal for accuracy among space marines is the casing of a bolt fired by Guilliman.

In engine builds still can be really tweaked with cinematic effects as this trailer was. Also probably can consider that with the myriad of bolter designs some might still be caseless (gotta love them variants). Also a lot of caseless munition useing weapons are designed with an ejection port to remove any material not destroyed due to jamming issues. Granted those are designs and since we lack any mass produced functional and proven examples all this is simply conjecture.
But yeah, I figured most bolters in the current age of 40k had cased rounds as well.
Not just that, I feel confident in saying that this is one of the best game-trailers I have ever seen.
I've watched the video around a dozen times now and I can't believe how awesome it is. The style, the editing, the music. It's great and it really fits together. It gives the feeling of a 'spaghetti western' and a big showdown between Terminators and the Tyranids. Anything with an orchestra or, God forbid, metal would have destroyed the trailer.
I prefer this over the "Deathwing Summer Trailer", which in my opinion was just a boring standard trailer that took the easy way out in its style and music-choice.
My favourite part has to be the continuous slow motions and especially the detailed look of the Power Sword at 1:02. Usually I tend to fast forward game-trailers and cannot wait till the trailer is over, this one is unique: I've watched it many times and still cannot get enough.

Well, I would love to see some in-game footage to but the trailer is still damned good in my part. I love even the music because whilst it might not be to your tastes it sets the mood really well, especially at the end, it conveys feelings/images of like some wild west last stand mexican shoot out x) which those ending scenes deifnately look to be!
To the remark on Genestealers with lolling tongues, i've never had much of a problem with it, I assumed it was because they use their tongues as an extra sensory organ essentially, like tasting the air? I mean, they're not going to use tongues to speak or taste food, lets be honest here.

A disproportionate number of rappers end up in pine boxes due to the previous factors.
Nice rant, carabine, and not sure if you are trolling, but if that is the "new and fresh", then give me the old and epic.

I'm somewhat curious if this means that they'll be releasing games, or even just alternate modes, using other chapters as well.
Between the original and this one we have games for both Dark Angels and Blood Angels, GW had a DLC for Space Hulk for Space Wolves, so perhaps we'll be seeing that next, or perhaps a game where you're able to create your own chapter?
I think that would be my personal preference, my favorite games are always the one where you can spend time tweaking looks and loadouts to find the one that suits you perfectly.

Carabine, the reason rap has the image it does is precisely because its most celebrated artists revel in the image of greedy, callous, misogynistic criminals. If the image of rap is to change, then the glorification of that lifestyle needs to disappear from rap. Not all rappers live like that, and not all rap promotes the "thug life." However, the image of a lowlife criminal has been carefully and intentionally crafted by many rappers.

Bull.
The music fits with the trailer. You're simply butt-hurt that it isn't the same old chanting and organs music GW has always used, because that's the ONLY music that fits with 40k right?
/sarcasm.
Rap music contains a small amount of those factors above as a whole. You are defining a genre by it's worst known factors. That is akin to saying all pop music sucks because you don't like Taylor Swift. It's an ignorant view, one you're free to keep. But that just makes you ignorant. Your call.
Also, "a disproportionate amount?" Oh really? Got any numbers there smarty-pants?
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Try not to be so openly nasty and biased with yours mate.
That being said, i wholeheartedly applaud the studio for taking such a bold move and hope that this is a sign of good things to come.

Nonsense, if the image needs to change then people need to rate individual songs.
The people that care about rap can do that. Stylistically, I'm not a fan of rap, and I pay as little attention to what's happening in rap as I do to what passes for pop music nowadays; i.e. when one of them does something so bone-headed that they end up in headlines....

So you're making sweeping, offensive statements about a genre of music you admit to knowing nothing about, except what you read in sensationalist headlines. Great...
Some of us enjoy it or think it suits the trailer.
Others don't.
This is a case of "I have my opinion, you have yours. Lets agree to disagree and move on". Because it really is a non-issue in the grand scheme of things. And while I hate to break it too you, if you think the music is an issue, well then you have bigger problems to contend with.
The other thing being, if this thread continues on the way it is, then someone will come in and lock it. And then no one gets to talk about this potentially awesome game.
The real question is to ask if the terminators from all of the games interplay, and if the games are interlocking.... Love to use a Deathwing squad with an inquisitor and a couple of other teams of Blood Angels
I don't see anything wrong with this music, it fits the portrayal of the trailer perfectly. Its good to introduce something different into a genre that was until now alienated from it. it gives some new color and freshness. I wouldn't even consider this music rap by the way.

Why do you think MMO's make elaborate pre-rendered 3D animated movies? To lull us into a false sense of security and hype us over something the game can never deliver. Granted, standing in a circle shooting Genestealers with your buddies is a lot less ambitious than, say, the cinematics for The Old Republic or Eldar Scrolls Online, but the premise is the same: Wow 'em with bells and whistels that will never match the game so that they pre-order before finding out what the game is really like.
Trailer looks cool, and I like the unconventional music.
It fit somewhat with the ponderous gloomy feel of the Dark Angels, and give me a feel that these guys have been trapped in that hulk for ages desperatly trying to get out, rather than a glorious mission to clense the xeno vermin.
But I also get why people dont like it. People want 40k to be "ageless", and this modern styl music ruin that.
It would have ruined it for any kind of fantasy movie as well, as a paralell.

As a 3d modeller and texturer myself, trust me, I know exactly what you mean. While I would say that a good FMV trailer is by no means an indication of a bad game, what really sets off warning lights for me is, close to release date, if there is still no actual gameplay footage. This title isn't due out for some time, so it remains to be seen how it'll turn out.
Looking good! Though they, as always, hiked the shoddy luminous fog up and brightness to the top in the gameplay compared to the cinematics... That broodlord fight just looks oversaturated and crap :( heres hoping you can turn that to a better state...

Late to the thread, forgive me, but I loved the "spaghetti western"-style music on the trailer. One of the Termies needs to take his helmet off and he needs to look like Clint Eastwood from 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", cigarillo and everything.
I'm really looking forward to this, but my only disappointment is that it's, yet again, one of the big four (UM, BA, SW and DA) that get a look in. Why not break the mold and do, for arguments sake, Carcharadons, Flesh Tearers, Imperial Fists or even the Raven Guard. Seeing how Raven Guard (normally fond of being sneaky) use Terminator Armour might prove to be an interesting concept. The players character is the Librarian, so another concern is that we won't get to use those amazing looking heavy weapons, which would be a real shame.
EDIT: @Ogre Chubbs and BrookM - I'm not a MOD, but I feel I'm bound to ask you not to pursue yet another argument - for the good of everybody else in this thread, please stay on topic. Thanks.

Seeing how Raven Guard (normally fond of being sneaky) use Terminator Armour might prove to be an interesting concept. The players character is the Librarian, so another concern is that we won't get to use those amazing looking heavy weapons, which would be a real shame.
These games will always be entry-level products in a bigger hobby, so it pays off to base it around something that is already widely established and not that hard to come by. I am glad that it's the Dark Angels and not the Ultramarines this time around, though I would've loved it if it was Blood Angels again, would've been a nice throwback to Space Hulk II - Vengeance of the Blood Angels.
However, from what I've read, while you are with a squad of fellow Terminators, you will gain access to both various psychic powers and different types of weaponry, so you can probably still kill yourself with a jammed assault cannon somewhere down the line.
Failing that, there's always coop where players can take on certain roles within the squad.

Perhaps, I'm just jaded with the constant attention GW pays to the same 4 chapters with their miniatures. I do realise it's because they are widely established - but one can dream I guess Maybe if it was to prove to be a success, they may introduce a different chapter fighting a different enemy in a sequel. There's so much potential for 40k in video games that I'm surprised GW haven't pushed it more.
The turn-based Space Hulk games did introduce more chapters over time (as DLC sadly), but it did broaden the diversity quite a bit.
The thing is though, the big four are more instantly recognizable to the newbies of the hobby than the (in some cases, yup, much cooler!) lesser knows like the Space Sharks.
GW is pushing for more games, but piecemeal really, handing out their IP to anyone willing it seems. This mostly leads to some grumps here only pointing to the bad mobile games, while ignoring the few gems in between the piles of gak, which is a shame really.
Sadly, for every Freeblade we'll also get another Snotling Fling.
OgreChubbs wrote: Play as a space marine... Done moving on. Hopefully they will make a game for people who are more adult and do not want to be the one man vs the galaxy and win teenage anx style.
I'm sorry, what? Care to clarify this statement, or is this just being you again?
Most adults prefer a more "work with your team" stay in a group more realistic approach to war/ shooting games. Like total war.
These games like space marine are more for the younger people. You are dropped off on a ship the size of a planet only you can kill everything GO!!! Very I can change the wrold the world needs me I am special type of feel.
I would mich prefer a war game where planning and counter planning mattered.... Not this....... Style.
The Total War series is garbage for a supposed 'realistic approaches to war'. I'd heartily recommend that you look up the Scourge of War series instead if you're wanting to test out how much of a man you supposedly are. You're a funny man and I'm not entirely sure where this insecurity stems from but remember that we're all here because we push around plastic men on a tabletop.
Enjoyed what I've seen so far from this video game, perhaps more so than other GW-IP games in recent years (aside from Gothic!). I won't be purchasing on release though, suppose it's better to wait a little extra and see if it pops up with a minor discount in the Steam Christmas sale.
Ahhh, Freeblade - I love that game! However, I'd be interested to know if anybody else experiences the same problems I do with it - It seems to devour my iPhone's battery and every so often I'll open it with nearly full battery and it'll just shut my phone down and display the no battery icon. It's only Freeblade that does that to me, so I suspect it's some bad coding on their part.
On the subject of the big four - I could dispute that they are more recognisable. The Space Wolves are just as they are named - Space Marines with Wolves. I'd argue that they are no more reconisable than Salamanders - which are just Space Marines with Dragons. I think, and it's just my personal opinion, that the only reason they are 'more' recognisable is simply because they are pushed more by GW. If GW were to push the Space Sharks as much, then people would recognise them just as much. Anyway, that's by-the-by. Even if Rountree seems to be changing things for the better, I reckon a Codex: Salamanders is still a very long way off.
We don't need more flavours of space marine codex books. A better move would be more along the lines of the campaign books, that flesh out the factions involved.
I also think that while we've got the "big four" codex books that are recognisable to us tabletop gamers, video gaming wise we only need one or two of them, preferably the ones who have the best colour schemes that appeal on a broad basis! If one were to Google "Space Marine" most of the returns would be Ultramarines, the iconic image of 40k, whether one likes it or not. The older games of back in the day as done by SSI (Chaos Gate & Final Liberation) had the Ultramarines as the go-to choice for representing the faction as well. Before we start crying about it being all boys in blue, most of the Space Hulk games throughout the years have for the most part been about the Blood Angels and the Dawn of War series have for the most part been about a custom chapter made by the devs their selves, in bright red armour.
It's better to stick to the images that are recognizable to the hobby and use that as a gateway, which in my eyes boils down to blue and red. To me it just seems as the best answer to draw in as many as possible with these games, by sticking to what's best known and the most readily available at the friendly hobby stores around the corner. This is all my own opinion by the way, not a broad sweeping bit of arse-flapping passed off as the end-all answer.
As for Freeblade, I only play it on the iPad and even there it can be a massive drain on the battery. However, for a tablet / phone game, it does look good and plays decently as well, which goes a long way towards explaining why it is such a drain on the battery.

Don't worry, my tongue was firmly in cheek there
Don't get me wrong, I think this still looks fantastic and even If I don't prefer to play as Dark Angels, I'll take that over no game at all. If I was to really wishlist a game though - a Mass effect styled RPG with an Rogue Trader/Retinue would be out of this world - literally.
for the workblocked among us, can anyone tell me the release date please? I've been googling every day for months and all been getting is "2016" and its still showing that

November 2016, that's all we know for now. It could still slip.

November 2016
There is an Emperor and he favours his loyal servants!
Kanluwen wrote: Remember that November is for the PC version.
We don't know yet for consoles.
Well from past experience, an October PC release means a January console, so November release for PC means February release for console which is perfect for me as its both birthday time and student loan time.
Deadshot is a very happy man.
On the other hand they may shove it out the door in time for Christmas as they know its hotly anticipated.

Genecult in there?
Yeah, almost certainly Genestealer Hybrids, who first got access to a huge variety of special and heavy weapons in the Genestealer add-on box for Space Hulk (first edition).
Space Hulk: Deathwing—Games Workshop’s incoming tactical FPS set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe—has been in development for quite some time. Announced in 2013, we were teased slivers of the idea via cinematics in 2014 and 2015, before being treated to a nice big slice of in-game footage in April this year. When it lands, it’ll come packing single-player, however publisher Focus Home has now detailed the game’s five co-op classes, and has teased a batch of related screenshots ahead of its November release.
There’s five classes all told, says Focus Home. The Librarian possesses psychic powers, while harnessing the hand-held ballistic anti-personnel Storm Bolter firearm. Heavy Weapon Support relies on assault cannons to best their Genestealer foes; while the Apothecary plays the medic role. Melee-Oriented Assault fighters go hands-on with assault claws, shields and power maces, and, lastly, Tactician Specialists can “support the team with a passive buff as well as other abilities, which is useful for controlling the swarms of Genestealers.” Naturally, success hinges on teamwork.
Space Hulk: Deathwing arrives at some point in November. If pre-orders are your thing, they go live on Steam at 10am PT/6pm BST and will net you a 15 percent discount and the Lost Mace of Corswain.

Spot on - confirmed as hybrids in one of the Steam trailers.
Certainly promising but one thing in that article leaves a sour taste and its the sentence "Reminiscent of Left 4 Dead," purely because having watched the same Youtubers play Left 4 Dead, then Vermintide, with 0 knowledge of the Warhammer universe, and immediately pick up on the fact its a reskinned Left 4 Dead to the point it could be a mod for the game, means that to have ANOTHER GW game compared to it is kinda worrying.
Woa woa woa, ships from other races? I thought it was just the one big massive Space Hulk. Unless it means multiple chapter ships or imperial and mechanicus variety.
Awww would love to see a tau ship level. Fire Warrior all up in it.
Well.. rivalry between the big two console manufacturers is one thing (unless there are games with cross-compatible multiplayer between the two), plus there's this thing where PC gamers have this thing called a mouse, which can be quite OP when used in shooters against console players, like with.. Shadowrun!
Man just saw their fb post from a while back showing the innards of BT cruiser from the Jerulas Crusade. Just when I thought this game couldnt look any sweeter, they put some Templars in there.
Can't wait to explore the vessels as I assume they are completely open to explore? So is each level a different cruiser, like randomly generated or something? Im sure I read something in an article where a Tau cruiser was mentioned. Not sure if the writer of the article just got confused or we really will see vessels of other races. Would be pretty awesome.

Someone in the comments of that video pointed out that GW is once again licensing a video game for a game you can no longer buy. The Space Hulk board game came out in 2014 and the video game is coming out in 2016, surely it would have been smarter to have them come out around the same time.
Nostromodamus wrote: Maybe a Space Hulk reprint is GW's secret midnight release?
We can hope...
Maybe, though I already bought my copy so I'm not going to be interested unless it's a Dark Angel or Space Wolf version of the game
It does strike me as odd that we've heard so little about the game so close to release. No advertising, very little in the way of trailers, nothing that actually shows how the game is actually going to play and so on. It's not confidence building.
I just want Lightning claws so i can attempt to make a hack'n'slash run. Just to see how far I would get(not very far from the looks of those Genestealers)

Lightning Claws are for pansy Blood Angels anyway.

They're terminators... they don't run. I'm sure you can manage a hack'n'slash waddle though.
JohnnyHell wrote: So instead of using the lore and weapons available they invent a shotgun-stormbolter. Riiiight.
While I think it would be hilarious to see a Terminator try and pump a pump action shotgun with his powerfist, I think having a stormbolter variant works well enough. I don't think it completely spits in the face of the fluff or anything, and there are some people who just want to play with shotties. That arsenal trailer is tasty though.
JohnnyHell wrote: So instead of using the lore and weapons available they invent a shotgun-stormbolter. Riiiight.
Isn't the rail rifle from Fire Warrior still around? Well, as fast as the Tau technology evolves the Dark Angels discover something new (i.e. ancient) in their basement.

If this game is anything like my luck in boardgame/old spacehulk PC, my Bolter will always jam, I will never go faster than a crawl, and my assault cannon will explode without fail.
EnTyme wrote: Still trying to figure out how a plasma weapon "jams". They don't use shell casings, so how does that work?
Could represent overheat or a malfunction with the plasma cell.
The jam icon/notification doesn't have to be so literal. The magnetic field could fail bringing the plasma temperature below critical and bringing it back into a gaseous state. Unless your goal is to fart warmly in the general direction of the enemy with your BFG, it's effectively the safe thing as a jam in that it require time and attention to fix. YMMV.
This game could not look more dope. No idea how it plays, but as an artist, I have incredible respect for the craftsmanship and design that went into this, it ranks up with the top AAA in my eyes.
Hmm written by Gav Thorpe. Could be hit n miss. Interesting there's a Black Templar ship in there. In the DA codex, the Dark Angels have a confrontation with them over a Fallen. Could be one here, maybe?

Hopefully not. The Dark Angels do things that don't involve Fallen.

To mark the launch of open beta, Gamesplanet have gifted me x3 Spacehulk: Deathwing game keys . So on Sunday 20th, 20:00 GMT I'm going to be streaming (Hopefully Space Hulk Deathwing) and I will be giving the keys away. Since YouTube doesn't have an addon to pick winners I will be doing the giveaway via my Twitch channel:
If you're interested in winning a copy of the game or just want to talk Warhammer with myself and other fans then. If you have any questions feel free to ask
From playing the Beta, the game is pretty basic, but dressed up in all the right ways to be a 40K game.
That said, there's the usual contrivances of stuff being bullet sponges against bolters, and the marines have unusually poor aim. The game is definitely mid-tier, but it evokes the setting pretty well.
Yeah that's the impression I got... it's loading up now, but the 17 minute demo looked incredibly basic gameplay wise. Gorgeous looking though, but basic otherwise. Will see!
The game is really bad, AI is bad, gameplay is bad, weapons feel bad. You will play through the single player campaign once and then never touch the game again. Pre-order weapon is pretty much cosmetic only.
Multiplayer menu is very basic and buggy, inputs lagg and don't always work. During gameplay you can switch class whenever you want (might be a beta only feature) by pressing i. Need a healer? switch to healer, heal, then switch back to whatever.
The AI is pretty much useless, allot worse than L4D. Conga lining like crazy, feels like the spawn points in tower defense games where all mobs spawn from 1-2 different places and then walk in a predictable line.
Best part of the game is atmosphere, they nailed it. To bad game looks like doodoo as they use this really bad filmgraind filter that makes the game look 10 years old, not sure if this is for a "cinematic" effect or to help with the poor performance of the game. Game crashes, you get disconnected from multiplayer at random.
Wait for a sale or buy the game from a key seller for €25.
I was joined by two members of the Spacehulk: Deathwing team tonight on my stream for a Q & A session, I asked them questions and took questions from chat, hope you enjoy!
Managed to play about 15 minutes before, finally got into a game, obviously there's a few bugs but haven't played long enough to comment on this.
However what I played has already made me fall in love with this, do not regret pre-ordering at all. It feels so powerful, the Assault Cannon is just a beast. That feel when they swarm down a hallway to you and you just unleash hell upon them, the roar of the cannon, the never ending flashes and blood spurts which completely block the view of the horde, you empty your clip, the guns red hot and all that lays before you is a mound of bodies and limbs.
I love how the dismemberment works. Power fisted a Stealer and took half his body off, power weapons leave an electrical surge on the body, the devs have managed to capture 40k perfectly so far. You feel like a badass, a walking tank like a Terminator is supposed to feel. Funny glitch happened where we blew a Stealers face off and his body was still standing there alive for a minute.
It seems to be packed with details and easter eggs though, got into one area and there was a crashed Imperial fighter in the wall, can't wait to explore every little room.

Just finished playing a lot of the multiplayer - they have captured the atmosphere perfectly but the AI is utter garbage. Genestealers pour in from a spawn point and head directly in a line to a terminator - even in a very large room. If they can fix the AI then this might bea fun game
And here's the announcement for those who don't like everything in video format:
Greetings Librarians,
Last week's Beta saw tens of thousands of you donning Terminator armour and answering the call to fight Genestealers in the Space Hulk Olethros!
We'd like to thank you once again for having taken the time to post your feedback on our official forum in large numbers, helping us to exterminate a wide range of Heretical bugs.
In order to ensure Space Hulk: Deathwing is in the best state possible for launch, we've taken the decision to delay the launch of the full game to December 14th, 19:00 CET.
While some of you may be disappointed, others have expressed support for allowing time to fix the remaining bugs.
Most of the issues from the Beta have been addressed, including drastic improvement of the loading times, optimisation of the general performances, improvement of certain interface and menu elements, sound-design changes (character voices), and fix of numerous bugs and nearly all occurrences of crashes.
We know you are eagerly waiting to purge Xenos, but we want to ensure all players can enjoy the game optimally on launch by continuing to work on the massive amount of feedback for an extra week.
Our tech-priests are preparing for the task, and no sacrifice is too great to gain the Emperor's blessing!
To be honest there's one reason I'm hesitant to purchase this game, the fear that throughout the game there'll be a barrage of marine catchphrases, endlessly repeated in a droning monotone voice.
Kill a lowly hybrid, " for the emperor!", take an insignificant amount of damage " only in death does duty end!", it's fething painful!
The fact they're there at all is the problem, don't reduce them, re record them to have meaningful dialogue in characterful voices.
Imagine a space wolf game with dialogue like the Gears of War games, instead we get pull his string and hear his catchphrase, one dimensional space weiners.
Come join me at 17:30 GMT (14TH DECEMBER) for the Spacehulk: Deathwing release party, we are in full hype mode now! I will be purging all night plus giving away a copy of the game! Hopefully some of you can jump in and join me in the purge!
Visually it is amazing, they totally, completely nailed it... The glaring issue is the AI... I wish this was more like a left for dead re-skin, with varying modes of pressure and great intensity... I only did the first 2 missions but the Stealers honestly come out of their spawns and run straight at you, no deviation. End of first mission just stood there in one spot and shot the top of a ladder. 200 stealers later, mission over...
This game has a lot of potential, and the studio deserves a lot of credit, I very much hope that they continue to work the AI before the PS4 version comes out so they can have a good shot at success.
In any case, I have a lot of hope for them in the future, if they did this with a tiny team and budget, I am excited to see what they can do next time!
It's a bit of a hit and miss for me, I've played it for some time now and well.. I like it, but there's also stuff not to like.
Visuals are topnotch and really nail the setting, it really feels like you're stomping through a series of Imperial vessels and a lot of good effort has been put into this, right down to the piles of tech priest corpses and even desiccated servitors hardwired into reactors and walls. For me the real easter eggs are finding things like the Avenger Strike Fighter, Sentinel powerlifters, lasguns scattered around the decks, an arming chamber filled with bolters and the walls decked out with shoulder pads of heroes of the Chapter, visually the game is pleasing, especially to someone who loves and knows the setting.
Foes also look great, but could do with more diversity in terms of models, the hybrids in particular could use more variety in presentation, because the only way to differentiate a Magus from a regular hybrid one is the lack of a gun apparently.
Zergrush AI aside, biggest complaint for me though is the gun play, which is mediocre. Way too much recoil (I thought we were relentless?!) and some weapons just plain feel like they are missing the impact of firing an automatic rocket launcher or six-barrelled assault weapon meant to shred these things to bits. Melee is also a bit wonky, but then again I only use the power fist myself, which when it connects makes for a gorgeous explosion of viscera, entrails and body parts.
While I understand a need for balance and whatnot, having a hybrid with an autogun of all things shred you to bits is also absurd to say the least! Genestealers ripping and tearing through you like wet tissue paper is one thing (it's the norm after all), but autoguns? Bleh I say!
Audio is good, especially when paired with a good set of headphones that have a nice bass going. The terminators have a nice heavy tread to them, the ships creak and groan eerily, weapons make good noise (even if they feel weak or useless). Voice actors are also of the good sort, especially after having toned down the voice lines after the open beta.
So far the story is a bit all over the place, but ehhh, it could've been worse I suppose. The term "hacking" also feels out of place, but I guess they couldn't find a good 40k analogue for that one. Some of the fluff text found throughout when interfacing with the ships is also wonky, but this is done by a French team IIRC, so translation errors will occur.
I like it, I do not regret getting it either and I hope some things will be fixed over time, either by the devs or the community.
BrookM wrote: :

You think? Well... I remember a single hybrid with a las-gun killing my captain and the heavy weapon-guy in the board game.
Hopefully they release this on ps4 soon, I don't do PC gaming since my computer took a dump. The game certainly looks decent, hopefully it sells well enough to justify porting it to consoles.
The singleplayer is pretty much trash. I really liked the beginning and then the colonial marine tyranids appeared... babysitting the AI for hours on end is hardly my idea of a fun time, sometimes they just let the nids slash them apart while im delivering holy vengeance on my own, so annoying.
Otherwise the gameplay is ok, some tense moments and varying fun.
It runs great and ive had no problems, but my friend who was going to play with me has the 3 second stutter thing going for him, which is apparently a normal Unreal bugg thats been forever...
Hopefully theres a patch somewhere that will fix some things, until then i think ill wait and hope...
I had that issue where the game randomly freezes for a few seconds regularly. Found out that the fix is to open the task manager, find the game's process, set affinity, and disable the last cpu core.
Now it runs just fine.

Manually setting core affinity? Welcome to 10 years ago Space Hulk
This is one of those games that looks like a triple AAA title, but is made by a smaller studio. I think a lot of people had higher expectations because of it. Not making any excuses for a game with serious optimization issues, but considering the budget it was made on, it's pretty good. I, personally, find it to be a lot of fun.
EnTyme wrote: This is one of those games that looks like a triple AAA title
So a AAAAAAAAA title?
I played the other day and due to the game's bugginess and crappy save system, I actually lost progress, to the point where I was back further than I was when I booted up the game. That's not acceptable.
Biggest mystery so far is my heavy flamer jamming all the while, but my default weapon, the storm bolter, which I use to empty entire bricks into hordes never once fails.

You need to thin down your promethium. Treat it like an airbrush.
