Seeing how Raven Guard (normally fond of being sneaky) use Terminator Armour might prove to be an interesting concept. The players character is the Librarian, so another concern is that we won't get to use those amazing looking heavy weapons, which would be a real shame.
These games will always be entry-level products in a bigger hobby, so it pays off to base it around something that is already widely established and not that hard to come by. I am glad that it's the Dark Angels and not the Ultramarines this time around, though I would've loved it if it was Blood Angels again, would've been a nice throwback to Space Hulk II - Vengeance of the Blood Angels.
However, from what I've read, while you are with a squad of fellow Terminators, you will gain access to both various psychic powers and different types of weaponry, so you can probably still kill yourself with a jammed assault cannon somewhere down the line.
Failing that, there's always coop where players can take on certain roles within the squad.

Perhaps, I'm just jaded with the constant attention GW pays to the same 4 chapters with their miniatures. I do realise it's because they are widely established - but one can dream I guess Maybe if it was to prove to be a success, they may introduce a different chapter fighting a different enemy in a sequel. There's so much potential for 40k in video games that I'm surprised GW haven't pushed it more.
The turn-based Space Hulk games did introduce more chapters over time (as DLC sadly), but it did broaden the diversity quite a bit.
The thing is though, the big four are more instantly recognizable to the newbies of the hobby than the (in some cases, yup, much cooler!) lesser knows like the Space Sharks.
GW is pushing for more games, but piecemeal really, handing out their IP to anyone willing it seems. This mostly leads to some grumps here only pointing to the bad mobile games, while ignoring the few gems in between the piles of gak, which is a shame really.
Sadly, for every Freeblade we'll also get another Snotling Fling.

I'm sorry, what? Care to clarify this statement, or is this just being you again?
Most adults prefer a more "work with your team" stay in a group more realistic approach to war/ shooting games. Like total war.
These games like space marine are more for the younger people. You are dropped off on a ship the size of a planet only you can kill everything GO!!! Very I can change the wrold the world needs me I am special type of feel.
I would mich prefer a war game where planning and counter planning mattered.... Not this....... Style.
The Total War series is garbage for a supposed 'realistic approaches to war'. I'd heartily recommend that you look up the Scourge of War series instead if you're wanting to test out how much of a man you supposedly are. You're a funny man and I'm not entirely sure where this insecurity stems from but remember that we're all here because we push around plastic men on a tabletop.
Enjoyed what I've seen so far from this video game, perhaps more so than other GW-IP games in recent years (aside from Gothic!). I won't be purchasing on release though, suppose it's better to wait a little extra and see if it pops up with a minor discount in the Steam Christmas sale.

Ahhh, Freeblade - I love that game! However, I'd be interested to know if anybody else experiences the same problems I do with it - It seems to devour my iPhone's battery and every so often I'll open it with nearly full battery and it'll just shut my phone down and display the no battery icon. It's only Freeblade that does that to me, so I suspect it's some bad coding on their part.
On the subject of the big four - I could dispute that they are more recognisable. The Space Wolves are just as they are named - Space Marines with Wolves. I'd argue that they are no more reconisable than Salamanders - which are just Space Marines with Dragons. I think, and it's just my personal opinion, that the only reason they are 'more' recognisable is simply because they are pushed more by GW. If GW were to push the Space Sharks as much, then people would recognise them just as much. Anyway, that's by-the-by. Even if Rountree seems to be changing things for the better, I reckon a Codex: Salamanders is still a very long way off.
We don't need more flavours of space marine codex books. A better move would be more along the lines of the campaign books, that flesh out the factions involved.
I also think that while we've got the "big four" codex books that are recognisable to us tabletop gamers, video gaming wise we only need one or two of them, preferably the ones who have the best colour schemes that appeal on a broad basis! If one were to Google "Space Marine" most of the returns would be Ultramarines, the iconic image of 40k, whether one likes it or not. The older games of back in the day as done by SSI (Chaos Gate & Final Liberation) had the Ultramarines as the go-to choice for representing the faction as well. Before we start crying about it being all boys in blue, most of the Space Hulk games throughout the years have for the most part been about the Blood Angels and the Dawn of War series have for the most part been about a custom chapter made by the devs their selves, in bright red armour.
It's better to stick to the images that are recognizable to the hobby and use that as a gateway, which in my eyes boils down to blue and red. To me it just seems as the best answer to draw in as many as possible with these games, by sticking to what's best known and the most readily available at the friendly hobby stores around the corner. This is all my own opinion by the way, not a broad sweeping bit of arse-flapping passed off as the end-all answer.
As for Freeblade, I only play it on the iPad and even there it can be a massive drain on the battery. However, for a tablet / phone game, it does look good and plays decently as well, which goes a long way towards explaining why it is such a drain on the battery.

Don't worry, my tongue was firmly in cheek there
Don't get me wrong, I think this still looks fantastic and even If I don't prefer to play as Dark Angels, I'll take that over no game at all. If I was to really wishlist a game though - a Mass effect styled RPG with an Rogue Trader/Retinue would be out of this world - literally.
for the workblocked among us, can anyone tell me the release date please? I've been googling every day for months and all been getting is "2016" and its still showing that

We don't know yet for consoles.
Well from past experience, an October PC release means a January console, so November release for PC means February release for console which is perfect for me as its both birthday time and student loan time.
Deadshot is a very happy man.
On the other hand they may shove it out the door in time for Christmas as they know its hotly anticipated.

Genecult in there?
Yeah, almost certainly Genestealer Hybrids, who first got access to a huge variety of special and heavy weapons in the Genestealer add-on box for Space Hulk (first edition).

Space Hulk: Deathwing—Games Workshop’s incoming tactical FPS set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe—has been in development for quite some time. Announced in 2013, we were teased slivers of the idea via cinematics in 2014 and 2015, before being treated to a nice big slice of in-game footage in April this year. When it lands, it’ll come packing single-player, however publisher Focus Home has now detailed the game’s five co-op classes, and has teased a batch of related screenshots ahead of its November release.
There’s five classes all told, says Focus Home. The Librarian possesses psychic powers, while harnessing the hand-held ballistic anti-personnel Storm Bolter firearm. Heavy Weapon Support relies on assault cannons to best their Genestealer foes; while the Apothecary plays the medic role. Melee-Oriented Assault fighters go hands-on with assault claws, shields and power maces, and, lastly, Tactician Specialists can “support the team with a passive buff as well as other abilities, which is useful for controlling the swarms of Genestealers.” Naturally, success hinges on teamwork.
Space Hulk: Deathwing arrives at some point in November. If pre-orders are your thing, they go live on Steam at 10am PT/6pm BST and will net you a 15 percent discount and the Lost Mace of Corswain.

Spot on - confirmed as hybrids in one of the Steam trailers.

Certainly promising but one thing in that article leaves a sour taste and its the sentence "Reminiscent of Left 4 Dead," purely because having watched the same Youtubers play Left 4 Dead, then Vermintide, with 0 knowledge of the Warhammer universe, and immediately pick up on the fact its a reskinned Left 4 Dead to the point it could be a mod for the game, means that to have ANOTHER GW game compared to it is kinda worrying.

Well.. rivalry between the big two console manufacturers is one thing (unless there are games with cross-compatible multiplayer between the two), plus there's this thing where PC gamers have this thing called a mouse, which can be quite OP when used in shooters against console players, like with.. Shadowrun!
