I like the trailer visuals; the music lead-in and finale are great. Rap doesn't belong. Rap doesn't say "humanity's greatest soldiers." It says "useless thugs who belong in a pine box."

Yeah cause remarks like that don't reinforce the negative stereotypes of gamers as a whole.
The music is a change of pace which after years of the standard "epic" ambiguous ominous chanting gets old. At first I wanted to make a joke about how it would've been more appropriate for a Crimson Fist game but then I realized that's kinda crass and little better than Baird's comments. Take the audio as another instrument and the flow and pace of the music fits the trailer wonderfully. It makes me think of something like old westerns and final gunfights. As interesting as the Grimdark setting of 40k is any contiguous setting needs to have some updates in order to stay fresh and get new audience members interested. The Dark Angels used to have a strong American Native connotation which means a possible american southwest influence which again fits the instrumentals of the music, the rap is a stylistic choice and one I'm glad that the developers decided to take a chance with.
Baird the only way we change what certain music connotes with is to use better quality examples with more favorable imagery. To simply dismiss an entire genre due to what you personally connote it with is merely a generalization and a poor one at that. What rap says to you is not what it says to everyone so please keep your dismissive and offensive opinions to yourself rather than make sweeping statements.
Back on topic I'm just praying this game ends up the same quality as Space Marine (I never understand why I hear so much vitriol about it). Hopefully they don't radically change how terminators are supposed to move or crank up the speed just to make things "more exciting". I can also see a full tyranid infestation in this game, just cause the source material was just genestealers doesn't mean this space hulk has to be the exact same one.

Loved the action sequence in the trailer. The god awful rap music though? C'mon. Dreadful choice. OK if it's something like CoD but not ideal for 40K.

The footage is rendered in-engine and with an alpha build.
And wat. People, bolters haven't been caseless in well over a decade. Hell, the medal for accuracy among space marines is the casing of a bolt fired by Guilliman.

In engine builds still can be really tweaked with cinematic effects as this trailer was. Also probably can consider that with the myriad of bolter designs some might still be caseless (gotta love them variants). Also a lot of caseless munition useing weapons are designed with an ejection port to remove any material not destroyed due to jamming issues. Granted those are designs and since we lack any mass produced functional and proven examples all this is simply conjecture.
But yeah, I figured most bolters in the current age of 40k had cased rounds as well.

I will just copy what I said in Natfka's blog: Not just that, I feel confident in saying that this is one of the best game-trailers I have ever seen. I've watched the video around a dozen times now and I can't believe how awesome it is. The style, the editing, the music. It's great and it really fits together. It gives the feeling of a 'spaghetti western' and a big showdown between Terminators and the Tyranids. Anything with an orchestra or, God forbid, metal would have destroyed the trailer. I prefer this over the "Deathwing Summer Trailer", which in my opinion was just a boring standard trailer that took the easy way out in its style and music-choice. My favourite part has to be the continuous slow motions and especially the detailed look of the Power Sword at 1:02. Usually I tend to fast forward game-trailers and cannot wait till the trailer is over, this one is unique: I've watched it many times and still cannot get enough. MadCowCrazy wrote:Should be METAL music to something like this, as cheesy as possible with loud screams and hard rock!
And we should also move back in with our parents, refuse to shower and grow a neck-beard. That would really fit the stereotype

Well, I would love to see some in-game footage to but the trailer is still damned good in my part. I love even the music because whilst it might not be to your tastes it sets the mood really well, especially at the end, it conveys feelings/images of like some wild west last stand mexican shoot out x) which those ending scenes deifnately look to be!
To the remark on Genestealers with lolling tongues, i've never had much of a problem with it, I assumed it was because they use their tongues as an extra sensory organ essentially, like tasting the air? I mean, they're not going to use tongues to speak or taste food, lets be honest here.

No, Brook isn't joking...
Also, I'm with Baird...that has got to be some of the worst and inappropriate music I have ever heard in an otherwise great game trailer.
Re his comment, he is referring to a genre of music which is renowned for glamorising and glorifying drug use, street gangs, violence, foul language, violence against women, drive-bys, etc.
A disproportionate number of rappers end up in pine boxes due to the previous factors.
Nice rant, carabine, and not sure if you are trolling, but if that is the "new and fresh", then give me the old and epic.

I'm somewhat curious if this means that they'll be releasing games, or even just alternate modes, using other chapters as well.
Between the original and this one we have games for both Dark Angels and Blood Angels, GW had a DLC for Space Hulk for Space Wolves, so perhaps we'll be seeing that next, or perhaps a game where you're able to create your own chapter?
I think that would be my personal preference, my favorite games are always the one where you can spend time tweaking looks and loadouts to find the one that suits you perfectly.

Carabine, the reason rap has the image it does is precisely because its most celebrated artists revel in the image of greedy, callous, misogynistic criminals. If the image of rap is to change, then the glorification of that lifestyle needs to disappear from rap. Not all rappers live like that, and not all rap promotes the "thug life." However, the image of a lowlife criminal has been carefully and intentionally crafted by many rappers.

Bull.
The music fits with the trailer. You're simply butt-hurt that it isn't the same old chanting and organs music GW has always used, because that's the ONLY music that fits with 40k right?
/sarcasm.
Rap music contains a small amount of those factors above as a whole. You are defining a genre by it's worst known factors. That is akin to saying all pop music sucks because you don't like Taylor Swift. It's an ignorant view, one you're free to keep. But that just makes you ignorant. Your call.
Also, "a disproportionate amount?" Oh really? Got any numbers there smarty-pants?
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Try not to be so openly nasty and biased with yours mate.
That being said, i wholeheartedly applaud the studio for taking such a bold move and hope that this is a sign of good things to come.

The people that care about rap can do that. Stylistically, I'm not a fan of rap, and I pay as little attention to what's happening in rap as I do to what passes for pop music nowadays; i.e. when one of them does something so bone-headed that they end up in headlines....
Personally, I'll take mariachi music over rap or modern pop any day.

Yeah, can we PLEASE stop mentioning the music?
Some of us enjoy it or think it suits the trailer.
Others don't.
This is a case of "I have my opinion, you have yours. Lets agree to disagree and move on". Because it really is a non-issue in the grand scheme of things. And while I hate to break it too you, if you think the music is an issue, well then you have bigger problems to contend with.
The other thing being, if this thread continues on the way it is, then someone will come in and lock it. And then no one gets to talk about this potentially awesome game.

I don't see anything wrong with this music, it fits the portrayal of the trailer perfectly. Its good to introduce something different into a genre that was until now alienated from it. it gives some new color and freshness. I wouldn't even consider this music rap by the way.

If the gameplay comes close to the video footage, it'll be great. Very questionable choice of music though -it's no more Grimdark than a Pokemon.
Also did I see some Hormagaunts in that vid or are they supposed to be just a different strain of 'stealer?

It won't. They never do. Why do you think MMO's make elaborate pre-rendered 3D animated movies? To lull us into a false sense of security and hype us over something the game can never deliver. Granted, standing in a circle shooting Genestealers with your buddies is a lot less ambitious than, say, the cinematics for The Old Republic or Eldar Scrolls Online, but the premise is the same: Wow 'em with bells and whistels that will never match the game so that they pre-order before finding out what the game is really like. In conclusion: Don't pre-order games.
