Path to Glory for AoS is already available in the app store, I assume that would contain all 12 parts?
edit: No way, there must be a lot more to the collection since it's pretty expensive. Both Path to Glory and the first short story are pretty cheap in the app store.
Duncan is always great, even if my suggestions where for more advanced videos.
The Path to Glory one I was really excited for but 12 parts seems.... terrible. I guess I'll wait until it is all released and people have reviewed it before I consider buying it.

I think GW are very much focused on the beginner tutorials and don't care for the more advanced ones but I would still like to see them. It feels like GW have done a great job of setting up an introduction to painting for new hobbyists but don't have any way for people to really improve their skills after a certain point.
Not interested in purchasable gimmicks. However, I am looking forward to see more of Duncan's video tutorials. I wonder if any of my suggestions made the cut.
Bought the Path to Glory for Age of Sigmar, but can't imagine it works much different for 40k. Here's a quick rundown:
You essentially pick a "level" of warlord you want to be your champion. Based on the power level of your champion. you get more or less rolls on the follower charts. For example, a Chaos lord on foot gets six rolls, while a Chaos lord on Manticore gets four.
You take take the corresponding number of rolls on the following charts:
- Retinue Units, usually minimum sized from thier warscroll. (Models listed are the max you can take in the unit, no additional models allowed, but you can take any equipment allowed by the warscroll. )
- Heroes: Just what it says, various single hero models.
- Monsters: Again, self explanatory.
- Bray Herd: Various Beastmen units.
- War Herd: Beastmen monsterous infantry and monsters.
After each battle there are various Eye of the Gods charts you can roll on for both heroes and units.
After each battle you gain 1 favor point if you lose and d3 if you win. The goal of the campaign is to get 10 favor points, and then roll lucky on the Eye of the Gods chart to become a Demon Prince. Once you have enough favor and win a battle after you ascend to demonhood, you win the campaign.
Walk the Path to Glory01/12/15
What is Path to Glory?
It's a new way to play your games of Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar... and it's also two yes, two – serialised expansions, one for each game, that build up over the course of the Advent Calendar.
How does it work?
Path to Glory gives you rules for choosing a champion of the Dark Gods, gathering a warband of followers to his banner (either randomly or tailored to your collection of Citadel Miniatures) and battling fellow champions for power, glory and the favour of your patron god, with the ultimate goal of ascending to daemonhood.
What do you get?
The first release for each supplement is the core rules, allowing you to choose your warband and get battling straight away. Every subsequent day adds a new element to one of the expansions, be it a new scenario, a painting guide for followers of one of the Chaos Gods, rules for playing games in a particular location (like the Blasted Wastes or the Eye of Terror). Releases will alternate between Warhammer Age of Sigmar and Warhammer 40,000. Each day also brings a new Chaos-themed short story for the other setting, so there's something for fans of both Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar every single day.
You can pick up the parts of the expansions that appeal to you, or you can subscribe in three ways: to the Warhammer 40,000 content (including all 12 short stories), the Warhammer Age of Sigmar releases (again including 12 short stories) or absolutely everything. Check it out on warhammerdigital.com now.

Seems like a nifty, quick little campaign system.
Wait did I read that right, you can START path to glory riding a manitcore?
Probably a case of having so much content to prepare that they had to split it between the two of them.
I do like their t-shirts though, kinda wish we could get those as well.
She's the new 'girl' Duncan as it were; there was a job posting for it earlier this year. So she'll probably be sticking around. She used to have her own painting stream - excellent painter - seems to have an imagination too with painting - not just 'straight out of the box' schemes. Doubtless GW will quash that at least for their videos.
Yeah I don't get it - how else would you paint white and then shade without it coming out a smudgy mess? I actually do a lot of my washing like that on flat/smooth armour now, even on non-white colours. I find it a good balance between simply washing the entire model and calling it a day (quick and dirty method) and washing the entire model then layering the colours back up (too time consuming for me).
god no. that is incredibly laborious. and if I was only going to drop a dark colour into the recesses GWs crappy washes would definitely not be my first choice. I like vallejo inks for that.
I would wash the white with diluted army painter inks then correct with airbrush if necessary. Pro tip: you don't dilute washes with water.
Since the product is supposedly a wash, it's kind of funny that he wont wash that model. (because those washes suck out of the bottle and they know it)

I can wash white and have it not look like ass. You need to correctly dilute the army painter ink wash. Start experimenting with different acrylic mediums and see what works.

If you want to do it the easiest and best way then you would obviously use a gloss coat followed by an oil wash, but the video is showing basic methods using GW products. I can't agree with your complaints about the wash myself. I doubt any acrylic was can be used as is over white without looking smudgy.
That newest video was actually quite helpful! I am looking at most of my power weapons with a little disdain now since I never had any idea on how to get that sort of effect on them. I may leave them metal as their base, but apply the blue effect on them to get the powered up effect. Very nice.
Is the whole Advent calendar this year dedicated to this Path to Glory nonsense? What if I'm not into Chaos? Nothing for me? I was hoping for another run culminating in something as awesome as the Cypher Dataslate.
I am going to give the Nemesis Force weapon tutorial some practice, but on a regular power weapon. Probably going to leave a fair amount of the regular metal exposed with just the edges glowing.
morganfreeman wrote: That power weapon technique is actually quite interesting and helpful, so that's nice.
It is. Now if only I didn't suck, it would have probably worked out better for me. My test piece did not turn out well at all. I painted the power core part on most models using the technique though.
Kriswall wrote: Is the whole Advent calendar this year dedicated to this Path to Glory nonsense? What if I'm not into Chaos? Nothing for me? I was hoping for another run culminating in something as awesome as the Cypher Dataslate.
Yeah, that all you will get, Black library short stories for AoS and 40k involving Chaos, and Path to Glory for AoS and 40k and the Paint tutos vids...
Yeah i know, would have been more interesting if the Path to Glory was like only 4-5 articles and the rest was dataslates and such.
Odd, can't seem to find them on the Warhammer TV page itself.
Yeah GW has them unlisted initially and then eventually lists them.
They're probably just messing about and unlisting them again because reasons (no doubt some bored intern it trying to stave off his boredom))
Odd, can't seem to find them on the Warhammer TV page itself.
I was also looking for them yesterday and only the first 3 were listed on the actual WH TV page, as you mentioned. But the links above worked just fine. Odd, that.
So um the "monolith" mission is a mission. It has a simple deployment.
Dude needs to try to build a monolith. Add a d6 each turn you have guys within 3" and once you get to 20 you win because you did the thing. Add +1 if you have 2+ units near it.
Enemy Dude needs to try to stop the monolith. He gets within 3" and can roll a 6 for end game. Each unit he has within 3" adds +1 to the roll.
Psykers on the monolith's side within 12" generate charge on a 3+ and all units get +1 to deny. Beginning of each turn you can pick a unit on the monolith Warlord's side within 12" of him and that unit can shoot. It acts normally after this for the rest of the turn.
If the attacker's warlord is alive, you can pick a unit that charged and is no longer locked in combat- they can declare another charge.

Talking about their lore is one thing, actually showing and painting a model seems like something else entirely.

Models in production speculations then? I wonder if GW will change what they look like should they actually be making the models
Pale skin? She looks pretty bronze to me, probably the worst pale skin tutorial I have ever seen, not because of the editing or steps but because it is not a recipe for palid flesh at all.
The whole WarhammerTV thing seems like a good idea from GW, I just wish it was more visible! It seems like the only way I ever hear about it (ie with the Advent Calendar) is through Dakka. (which don't get me wrong- I love Dakka ). It seems like making these really visible would be good publicity for the company.
So I can see whatever they currently have posted, but is there somewhere else that there might be a link for the video channel? (ala that convenient list you posted). I get promoting the "What's New," as things come up, but the'll only be there so long, and I can't imagine there's a video every time to provide you with a link to the channel.
I guess I'm just still used to the original GW website, that actually had subsections for painting and gaming. I thought they'd want to make it really easy to find anything!

Just go to the Warhammer TV channel on youtube. Search Warhammer TV on YT (it should be the first link) or --
No, I get that. I'm saying if I were a newbie, other than the random chance of finding a specific painting video by luck, how would I know about them? Again, the old website had it RIGHT THERE at the top of the page. "Painting and Modelling" wasn't just a link to buy paint and tools.

If its not on the product page (example) and you don't want to dig through the 'What's New' archive then your only option is to do as Talys pointed out and go through Games Workshop's YouTube channel.
I know, I was aware the first time you said it. Seriously, am I taking crazy pills here??
The only thing I have been saying is that I wish they posted these with access in the "Painting and Modeling" heading on their website. You have made it abundantly clear exactly how you can get the link, and I thank you for that. But I am not critiquing your method or any anything else, I am only saying (as a completely separate topic) that GW should be advertising this more effectively.

Hoo-boy.
Do you know you can see them all on their YouTube channel?
I know you can see them all on their Youtube channel.
I know how to get to their Youtube channel.
HOWEVER, I think it would be a great idea if GW included a link to the Youtube channel under their "Painting and Modeling" tab (aka WHERE THEY USED TO KEEP THIS STUFF) so that people who aren't already aware of it and maybe haven't checked the "What's New" tab would know they have a full channel dedicated to painting. I think they could do a lot better than a few thousand hits on the videos that way.
That is all I was saying since the very beginning. Instead I got GW's defense brigade trying to explain to me how you get to the page.

They definitely need to do more with them. I'd think they could work well slotted into the description sections for each item's listing on the webstore, as a sort of "look what you can do with this!"
In all seriousness, I'm right there with you. I didn't even know Warhammer TV existed until about 3 months ago. Not that it's existence has changed my life or anything, but they should at least endeavour to make sure people are aware they actually have an official YouTube presence.
i've just started playing around with the Martian Ironearth...
he isn't joking when he says to layer it on thick!!!
it is very delicate if you go too thin, but the cracked earth effect is quite nice when you get it right...
the lava effect is a great idea...
if you do go for red earth straight out of the pot, be sure to basecoat your base with a dark or red brown, because the black of a bare base looks horrible through the cracks, as i learned on my first attempt:(...

In the How to paint Skitarii Rangers video, Duncan uses a base coat of Khorne Red underneath the Martian Ironearth and Doombull Brown for the edge of the base.
Cor, I hadn't watched any of these yet but I've just watched a couple - the tone of the voice they're doing is really annoying! I'm sure these videos used to be way more mellow.
"Make sure you wait until this coat is completely dry! ! Do two thin coats to get a nice even finish! !"
Bull0 wrote: I'm all for making the content accessible, it's just the forced cheeriness of it that's putting me off.
You have to admit, there are a lot worse videos out there. The thing I like about GW's current videos is that they are direct and to the point. Also remember that these videos are written to new people coming into the hobby and not old pros which is why you hear all the "Be sure to let it dry." and "two thin coats..." stuff.
Maybe binge watching these videos isn't a good idea? I've never been annoyed with Duncan though at times the amount of paint he drops on the palette seems wasteful.
gigasnail wrote: that volcanic base effect is amazing. i am going to use this on some daemon weapons.
Agreed. Hadn't seen that Martian Ironearth stuff before.
Dentry wrote: Maybe binge watching these videos isn't a good idea? I've never been annoyed with Duncan though at times the amount of paint he drops on the palette seems wasteful.
One thing I don't like about Duncan's videos is the way he coats the brushes is terrible for the life of them, getting paint up in to the ferrule like that.
That Imperial Fists tutorial was surprisingly simple. Be it that I kinda want to start a HH-era Imperial Fists army, this was very nice to see. I will have to work on recess shading to make sure I get a good handle on it.
Yeah, they won me over to the yellow side after that tutorial, sorry Ultramarines, as cool as you may look, the Imperial Fists just have better Legion rules!
I'll be doing a very similar technique for my Fists, with a couple of differences to make it faster and imo better looking, a must since I'll be painting close to 100 models:
- Do the base coat with Army Painters Demonic Yellow spray can, which is supposedly a very similar color to Yriel Yellow.
- Instead of Reikland Flesh shade, I'll be gloss varnishing the whole model, then washing with Burnt Umber oil paint. With the gloss coat the paint will flow quickly and easily into the recesses, and you can easily touch it up by wiping off the oil before it dries.
- No edge highlighting, it just takes too long. Instead I'll do some sponging with Rhinox Hide for weathering, and some rust weathering powder on the legs to looks like red dust since I'll be doing Mars bases.
Ghaz wrote: I think that's a result of the very brief nature of the tutorials, plus the fact that they're aimed at all skill levels.
Sure, it gets repetitive but I doubt many people watch all the videos, and the things they point out like thinning the paint and having the correct amount of paint on a paintbrush or applying multiple layers -- those are the simplest techniques that are ignored by the most people, yielding lumpy masses. A lot of painters see a thin layer go on splotchy, and think, "I must use thicker paint", or just don't have the patience to layer paints to get it smooth.
Incidentally, there are some decent tricks in there for people who are more experienced, too. For instance, I've met a lot of painters with excellent models who still thin black with water or fancy stuff like Flo-Aid, retarder, or medium -- Duncan mentions in one of the Advent videos to thin it instead of Nuhln Oil, which keeps your black more consistently black, while thinning it down.
Pariah-Miniatures wrote: I enjoy the videos, however I find Emma's constant hand gesturing AaF..
It's like she's trying to be Duncan, trying to get the same intonation and gestures, but overcooking it a bit too much, lol.
That's exactly what I was thinking.
The hand gesturing is distracting but it's probably just nerves; we're used to Duncan who's been doing it for 2+ years - she's immediately gotta try and match that. Which is probably why she comes off as acting like Duncan and a little too over enthusiastic - she's probably been told to emulate him - I've seen her painting stream, much more chilled and stuff.
Her painting is good though, hope she starts to let her own personality come through and ignore probably being told to be like Duncan.

Please let me know just how close the colours are, as much as I'd love to get a can of their primer, I've been stung one time too many by their assurances that the colours would match, only for it to be a gakky primer.
New video posted There's still time for Ultramarines, Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Space Wolves and a few other Marine chapters to round out the calendar
New video posted. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be enough contrast between the Mechanicus Standard Grey and the Thunderhawk Blue to make an effective scheme for the tabletop. The scheme on the Wyvern is much better IMHO.
Hopefully they do a tutorial on infantry camo. I've been having trouble with painting my imperial guard fatigues in a camo pattern, and would like to see Duncan or Emma talk about it.
Shoot, I've been out of the hobby for so long, that all these urban and black armor are giving me a real drive to get some models done up. Looks like my guardsmen are going to once again become City Fighters.
I really would have liked some tutorials that were more in depth rather than simple 2 step edge high lights.. Last I checked advent calandra still have the 25th as a spot to open, not sure why they wouldn't just post two videos or have a bot make the upload on Christmas..
No use being disappointed, this was expected from GW.
Also not a fan of Emma's on camera direction.
The first part of the Word Bearers armour is already covered in the White Dwarf Weekly some time ago, but the second part that goes into the astral markings and the scripture is a nice addition though.

Yeah. They should have not done anything at all right? I mean, they can't disappoint you if they don't do anything at all.
I found the series to be a nice change of pace and checked on the videos daily. I found myself actually buying some of the textured paints as a result.

Or they could have done full tutorials like they have done prior to this. But just about every advent calendar tutorial is: base coat, "black line", highlight, maybe additional highlight. All of course just done with other color schemes, that basic formula is easy to replicate on anything, it's not needed to be shown in various colors.
Now showing off different techniques or having complete and more in depth tutorials would have been great. Don't mistake me being unimpressed with lazy painting videos as not being great up that they even bothered to do it for good PR. It's great they did, just wish they did more with it.
Almost half of them weren't that, though. Remember they did: 1. Power/Force Weapons using blending for the effect 2. Harlequin Diamonds for some freehand 3. Volcanic Bases as an advanced basing technique 4. Stubble 5. Urban Tank Camo for some more, if more simple, freehand 6. Ork Checks and Dags for some more simple-ish freehand 7. Urban Bases 8. Marble effects 9. Snow bases 10. Sponge Weathering
That's pretty decent since a majority of their intended viewer base are beginners.
