Bunch of folk near and around WHW, so give this topic a rattle and see who pops out, if you're looking for casual games.
Original topic:
Spoiler:
Looking for anyone who fancies a game on Saturday, February the 7th. Morning or afternoon, or I can just book a plain table for the day and be flexible.
Army wise: Bring what you like, I'm still learning, so I don't mind being hammered.
I play mostly infantry IG, with three LR tanks, a chimera, and no psykers or useful air support. I can do up to around 2000pt, but I'm quite new, so very much more and I struggle to cope just yet.
If you are uncertain how to get to WHW I can help you from Notts train station, it's now super easy on the tram line.
I don't care if your figures are painted, as long as I can understand where one unit starts and another ends. 99% of mine are, if it matters.
I am up for games on other dates of course, but I'm being asked to go along on the 7th as a case-caddy, and I'd like to use the time there.
I was there today and booked in for the day (drop out whenever, but the morning slot is quite abrupt) while pratting about, we're in the sector imperialis under "BC" as I realised standing next to my girly name all day is a bit weird.
So far as points, you probably know better than I do what would be playable in the time afforded to you.
I'm not a fan of Mysterious objectives due to them bring a faff, but other than that, feel free to bring whatever. My army is lots of flashlights and a glittery tank.
Yeah, it's very trusting, I know guys who'd let me handle their pets or genitals but wouldn't trust me to carry their painted army. Wargamers: Law unto themselves.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Pets or relatives.
Bus + Typing = ???
Ha ha, I think I'd rather hand over my genitals than an army.
Probably 1500 then? I'm happy to just have a straight up death match or use maelstrom, which ever you prefer. Looking forward to seeing the glittery tank.
Glittery tank is under renovation, but I'll try and get it finished. There's also a standard Tauros jerp, but no anti-air as I mentioned. I think Valkyries are kinda ugly, so I never bothered, so a lack of fliers unless I get the Aquila out. Fear the low capacity, single laser bird.
Come to think of it, my partner carries armfuls of bags to a finger breaking over-loaded extent, to avoid anyone else carrying his figures, including me. Well, case in point.
Don't prioritize getting it painted on my account, I've played many grey armies. Do you have many heavy weapons? I haven't used my ork walker army in over a year and would be fun to crack out again. It's a terrible army, but wouldn't be if 95% of your army couldn't glance av 10/11.
I have a small amount of HWS (enough to run a trio each of HB, AC or Lascannon), and a literal handful of things like meltas and plasma gunners. One guy has a hairdryer an amusingly tiny flamer.
I also don't psyker yet due to trying to get this learned well enough to play fluidly, but I don't mind if you do.
Use what you find fun! There's no point owning models if you don't field them.
I've got about 10 armies for 40k, so plenty to choose from, although it wouldn't be the best army to fight if you are wanting to learn the ropes. I'll go for some flavour of space marine.
It's fine, go for what you'd enjoy, or don't get to use often, if it appeals! I can throw up a rough list at some point, and I have some odd bits I may have built by then, which are fun but not the most competitive. (HBD, Russian doll tanks, etc)
Because of the fairly eclectic way I learned (mixture of well meaning friends and high speed tournaments), I'm still rounding out things like AP/AV whilst knowing the ins and out of irrelevant super heavies, and jinking. So I need some alone time with my rulebook, which thankfully I can get this month.
No worries, I only play once in each school holiday these days, so often need to double check the brb myself.
I'll go with the orks then. Expect 9 kills kans, 3 deff dreds, a morknaut and 2 meks. That's my 1k list, so there will be a few upgrades and maybe a warboss to take it to 1500.
Heyo, if you two don't mind me barging myself in I'd be more than up for Sunday too (I would the 6th but it happens to be my birthday). Of cource if three's a crowd I completely understand though, having done three player games a lot I know it gets a lot less tactical and a lot more fluster-clucky ^^
I'm a amature player who can match up to about 1500 points with Khorne Daemonkin. Up for other weekends after the 7th too! Was looking for games in Notts about a month ago but went on hobby hiatus with Christmas so it would be good to get back into the swing of things again.
More the merrier!
I'm not playing on the Sunday itself, just helping carry, so I can certainly get a game in. And yeah, up for any time. I just can't do two weekends in a row, as it's not fair on the OH.
Btw your sidebar says Derbyshire, whereabouts? I'm in Chesterfield.
Oh I see, maybe next time I should read all the posts rather than just lazily skim them so you guys are playing Saturday and Sunday your carrying models up for a freind but not playing?
Being my birthday Saturday is a bit sketchy for me but I might have the afternoon, I'll find out what's happening, if anything ( D; )
I'm in Ilkeston, more of less smack bang between Notts and Derby Buttery Just a bus trip and a walk for me.
Wow. That will be a sight. What armies they playing? Suprised you'd want to step away from that to play a (comparatively) tiny game on the side ^^
But, from me expect hordes of charging Bloodletters, a Daemonprince flapping around in the sky and possibly just a few black legionnaires to provide SOME cowardly ranged support.
They play Imperial and Tau. And the reason I want to distance myself is I spend most of the time stopping them from killing each other in real life. They are both nice guys, but bicker endlessly.
If I ask questions, it's because I'm basically saying "Why?" as I'm learning. If they do, it's because they think it's wrong. If I wasn't playing you, I'd be in the bar.
Ah Yhea I think you've mentioned this elsewhere before, it's a shame but I have to confess it sounds a BIT like my old group too, it was like a salt mine of bickering when we used to meet up, but I like to think it was friendly/fun bickering ^^
I'll jot the date on my calendar then! 1500pts, you thinking starting at about 11am if you're helping your freinds or later? I have no clue about game types so you can decide if you like ^^
They're good people, honestly. But they do bring out bad arguments.
1500 is fine by me, but bear in mind I have no flyers or anti air before you load up. I don't mind a few difficult targets, my only flier is a single plane that doesn't hold a full squad of people and has one laser gun. I tend to leave it at home.
Don't worry I have 0 fliers, unless you count a winged daemon prince Just never been part of my play style. I have no doubt a flier would screw my army hard to think of it...
Although it seems you guys have already organised something, I can be at WHW for the 6th or 7th. Even if not for a game it would be good to meet some local gamers as I'm still fairly new to getting (back) into 40k.
I've got no problem with you introducing yourself on the sat morning, it'll be the first time I've met buttery off forum as well. I'd offer to have another game after, but much like my opponent, I like to get home earlier to avoid a whole different kind of battle later on...
Generally speaking, I play in school holidays, which are the following week. If we get on we can try for a game then?

That sounds good to me. I should be able to make wednesday nights and weekends. But I'm easy on times so I can work around you if it helps avoid aggro.
During holidays, unless I actually go on holiday, I'm free pretty much whenever, so weds and weekends will be fine with me. As long as you me know what sort of game you want beforehand so I can come up with an appropriate list, i.e. if you are going for a knight army, trialling a titan, fun list, tournament practice etc.
Ah cool, I'm restarting my old tiny Tau collection from when I used to collect back in 3rd/4th ed. I'm looking for some 500pt starter games. By then I should have enough built (but not exactly painted...) to play a 750pt game if that's? It's been that long I'm practically a fresh starter though
Ok, that's no problem and can easily squeeze in inbetween bigger games. Well if you are around on the Saturday find us and say hello, that is me in the avatar (I won't have the missus on my back, and ive now got slightly less hair), and I'll have an army of yellow ork killa kans and deff dredds. We'll go from there.
Just throwing this up, JamesY, could you could make two lists? 1500 and 2000, and I'll do 1500 and 1000, so if Madden makes it, we could team up and play against you, and if not, no harm, no foul?
I'd offer to do 1500 and 2000 but you don't want to see me do 2000 of IG with only 3 tanks and the rest lasguns.
Yeah no problem, I can go up as high as necessary. It'll be a power armoured army in that case, which is no problem as it'll give me the opportunity to try out the crimson fists I'm working on. On a very sad note, I just broke up fluid nozzle on my airbrush whilst painting them, £22 to replace :(
@ buttery to me bad players are those who throw models or sulk when things don't go their way. Good players are the ones that make sure we both have a fun game. I'm sure you are a very good player.
@ Madden cheers mate, the part has been ordered so hopefully I'll be spraying again in no time. If you want to bring more than 500 points just say, I can match whatever you want to bring.
Oh, I didn't mean to set the values! I just thought 4000 betwixt three would be roughly small enough to make sure we got a few turns in. I don't know!
I do think you're right, but to qualify as a player it's possibly required that you know the rules.
There are certain rules that I'm seriously struggling to grasp, even though they're logical and people have explained again and again (and again). I hope it sinks in, but I fear I frustrate people.
I do know the order of play, the whys and how's, I just flat out can't grasp armor/saves/pen.
That turned into way more of a gripe than intended, but it's weird realising you're out of practise learning how to do something.

Ha ha, don't worry Buttery, I just meant because he'd said he had 500-750 point that he could bring the extra 250, I had no intention of contradicting you, or trying to turn it into a 'big' game
And don't worry about not knowing rules, that's no problem. I spend my days with 180 teenagers without getting frustrated (much), you not knowing all the rules to a very complicated game really won't be a problem.
I think some of it is that I haven't been in education for nearly a decade, I forgot how to take things in. I ended up with cue cards for my units, for my ref and quick ref for opponents.
That and it's a dog of a system to learn if you didn't come up through older editions.
I picked up the daemon codex to play Slaanesh, and no word of a lie, I'm considering returning it because the sheer number of things to remember makes me feel very very stupid.
Depending what happens between now and then it may well be my first game in 10+ years and even then I only had a few with my old IG army. So my rules knowledge isnt exactly polished lol.
Id be happy to do 500pts it may be too much of a struggle to get the 750pts together by then. Im pretty slow when it comes to the assembly
Ok, well 1500 it is then. I'll either bring my old tried and tested Grey Knights that are fully painted, or the Crimson fists that might only have a base coat of blue on them?
Eh, stick with 2000, I can pick up the slack with some stuff from the box. Either Daemons that I can lend you Madden, or there's some bits I can pull out.
I only have one figure case, so it all comes with me regardless.
Thought I'd mention here that I'll be heading up to WHW on the 23rd or 24th of Jan with Madden hopefully! (Though I might be jumping the gun a little bit mentioning it, only swapped a couple of messages :O) More the merrier if anyone else would be free!
JamesY wrote: By the sounds of things buttery, you'll be easily identifiable as the guy being backed into a corner by a nutcase trying to touch your bolt shells...
I'm far more likely to be awkwardly ignored at WHW, anything girly causes widespread silence/clamming up from British players (I've had more conversations with exuberant Europeans than Brits in all my times visiting).
The staff would be out like whippets if anything kicked off like in that topic, I'm happy to say.
Yep definitely down for the 23rd too. I'll be around for a short while this saturday morning too having a game with a guy who agreed to show me the ropes before xmas. So atleast I will be a bit better versed in the rules by the time I have my games with you guys.
Odd that Ive gone a couple months since starting and not seen much activity about games at whw and then everyones coming from all angles haha
Nutcase..? Bolt Shells..? I may be missing something here.
Edit: Also how frowned upon is it having crisis suits (temporarily) held together with blutac?
In my teenage years, I attracted a lot of unwanted situations.
It's thankfully not followed me for the rest of my life. Possibly because I am relatively gender ambiguous, and I hang out with better people.
Oh crap that's bad. I only played a little when I was in my early teens/tweens. There was some strange ones but never that strange. Since being back I've still yet to meet a proper fruitcake, but then again I haven't been back long
I'm still not sure how I'd react to an overly angry player either. I guess that will come in time :S
@Shane BC, AEIOU and myself are playing Saturday morning. It's BC's thread and he initiated the game, so I'll defer to him on the final word, but I'd be happy to drop to 1k myself and for you to join me against them? If you are ok with that buttery?
I can hardly say no to nuns with guns.
Either day is fine, starting at 11 isn't an issue, as I'm also on the train, and I'll be helping my friends set up at opening.
I'll be there around 10, I like to have a catch up with a few of the staff as a few of them are ex-colleagues, and get myself a cup of tea. If you have an hour and a half to spare I'd definitely look around the exhibition hall, it's well worth it.
It'll be the first time all of us have met (as far as I know), so we're all in the same boat. I've made a couple of good gaming mates through dakka, it's well worth a punt on meeting a stranger for a game (especially in a hall full of people with cctv and security...).
I'll probably roll up around then, as I don't get a lot of choices with the trains, it's either heinous early, or lunchtime.
By no means does anyone have to start gaming at opening, I'll probably be chatting with the FW guys if they're not busy, doing pickups, and trying to translate the bar menu from whimsy to English.
A better question is what time everyone will definitely be in by?
BTW James, do you know any if the history of the gaming hall itself? I've noticed on a few occasions that the stone archway decorations in the hall are clearly meant to be specific people, rather than generic gargoyles (I think one even has glasses). Any idea who they were?
Train gets me in to Nottingham station for either 09:30 or 10:30 on the 6th, so I'll probably get the earlier one and check out the FW store whilst people arrive.
I'll bring two packs of tactical cards so we can play Maelstrom (I prefer it and it's fun when doing doubles) and not mix up cards.
Finally:
- Do we need to book a table?
- How much does that cost?
@Shane Buttery already has a table booked under BC. There is no charge at present for tables.
@Buttery I've never noticed them before if I'm honest! I'll have a look and see if anyone looks familiar. I only worked for gw for just under a year before doing my teacher training, I needed a job when we moved to Nottingham and the salary didn't matter, as my missus has a good job, so I just saw it and went for it. However, I generally get on well with everyone, so found myself helping out at a few events in the time, which meant that I got to meet a lot of people. Plus I have been in and out of the hobby for a long time, so might recognize some of the older faces.
Without looking, I'd put money on the glasses being Rick Priestley.
My Avatar pic is of me, although now I have slightly less hair and slightly more waist. Finding the table for BC is probably the best way to find each other.
Buttery Commissar wrote: I'll be there with a friend on the 23rd.
Enjoy your paranoia of where I am in the room.
I'm easily... Paranoiable? I'll be looking over my shoulder the entire time now. You monster.
We shouldn't be hard to spot though! Madden will be crying as his Tau are devoured by my Bloodletter swarms and I'll be the one laughing far too loud for a hall that echoes as much as that one does.
Saturday, we're on the Sector Imperialis board and have permission to poach terrain from any unattended non-feature table.
I went for something relatively flat, because we can always add to it, but you can't remove blocking terrain from the static boards.
All else fails, and we have indeed wandered off, look for a gloss black metal case with silver rims and a Mechanicus sticker/weird burlesque sticker/kittens.
@James: I'd have said faintly Simon Pegg, so you could be right with a younger Rick Priestly. The only other thought was a young Ronnie Renton. I'll point them out if there's not a table in that corner.
It is not a particular burning desire to know, but I'm curious who would even remember, apart from the older manager in the main store. I guess it is a brainworm.
Been tempted to ask on their dedicated FB page, as the guy updating it is quite prolific.
The Most Important Rule: The more terrain the better.
This has made me want to paint. So I'll be aiming to get stuff actually finished for this game day. Nothing like a bit of inspiration and a hard deadline.
@Buttery Lee only joined last year, he joined from Sky. I really like him and glad he's still there, when he got it there was a lot of 'he won't last a year' from long serving individuals whose applications were rejected. I look forward to seeing these gwargolyes, might bring the rt book and see if any match up.
@Shane I hear you, sadly I am having to wait until Saturday to pick up my replacement fluid nozzle before I can crack on with the sea of navy blue power armour on my side-desk :(
If it's who I think (broad, pale hair, probably has ten years on the rest of the staff) definitely a very solid guy, though usually far too busy to stop and talk during the hours I'm there (weekend afternoons). I can only assume that he kept his job because I've never seen him stand in one place for more than five minutes! He always comes through on answers, though, and knows the books backwards.
"Alex" (I think. Dark hair, beard. Bounces a lot), and the short lass with dark hair and glasses in the GW store are also incredibly devoted to what they do. You can tell, I think, by what a person spends their time doing when customers aren't there. I'm vaguely familiar enough that they're not on shop-floor mode with me unless I bring family. I never see them faffing about with displays models or lint-picking on the merch.
Hell, FW store guys are also amazing, as is the older chap in the black library store. As long as you understand your convo may resume in ten minutes (or in some cases, a month), it's a great place to spend a casual time wandering about.
I'm not 100% sure I'd like to work there (a small part of my brain goes "it's still retail!", but it's one of the best atmospheres I've visited.
If you have time, yeah, bring the book. I'll bring my weird Dwarf thing for you to boggle at.
Alex is a friendly guy, he was one of my regulars when I was at Friar Lane. James in bl is an awesome guy, I always have a good chat with him when I see him. They are all really nice, but no I couldn't work there, the cost of the investment means that senior staff are always in there checking how well it's doing, so there is always a slight edge in stores.
Working for gw was odd, I'd been a retail manager for years before hand, and had experienced retail at its best and worst. Because of my situation I didn't have to take it seriously, so I was able to enjoy it for what it was, and do a good job with an overly healthy amount of detachment. If I had to manage a store and had to take it seriously, I think I'd very quickly quit in frustration at how unnecessarily difficult they sometimes make it to retail their own product. I loved working for them, but if you imagine enjoying your favorite activity, but having to stop every 45 minutes to punch yourself in the face, I think it would feel something like that.
Yeah, there's a rather noticeable handful of people that are no longer on the shop floor since about December. I would like to think they moved to another department, or store, but they weren't IMO long enough there...
A friend of mine took on managing a one man store recently, and basically approached it with a "it's good while it lasts." attitude, and is determined to do his best. He understands that good will cannot make up for sales targets, and it's no personal failing if he ends up out after 2-3 years.
We lost our last (superb) GW manager in town due to sales targets, which I was peripherally aware of. He'd managed to excell beyond previous staff, but the percentage change didn't matter because it was still below the required amount.
I think I'd like a job in the physical side, boxing, demoulding, etc. Far less point of sale stress, no need to paint display models, but nice people, a process/product I find interesting and a task that stops when you go home. I briefly had a spot demoulding for a uk company and absolutely loved it, despite it being mindless, and having no interest in the figures.
My long term career goal is to drive a bus, because (no offense) I've seen first hand what teaching does to the body and soul. A job that ends when you take off the uniform is what I can cope with, even if it means living tighter.
Alex helped me out when I decided to get back into the hobby and visited the shop to pick up some paints to paint the rest of my army. He let me buy one of the paint sets and switch out all the ones I didnt need which saved me some money. Which to be quite honest surprised me. Had a good chat about how the game had moved on and what in the hell happened to fantasy since I didn't fully get what had happened with AOS at the time. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy.
I've felt a little awkward at times with some of the other guys in there as they seem a bit pushy. But I can imagine theyre under a lot of pressure, so it's no biggy.
Yeah, I'm okay with naming people who do a good job, and when I'm on my own, the staff there leave me be. But one or two have tried hard-sell in there and it's got my back up.
Just told you that I don't play AoS, so no, I don't want an £85 army scroll for your badly renamed lizards.
Oddly those are the staff I couldn't name if I wanted to.
I wish I did know the lass's name as she's a gem too.

Edit: Oh and CaoCaoTipper... It's Oooooooon
It might have been Alex, I'm not sure, but when I brought the Dark Vengeance set with my freind they were doing a bonus where they'd give you a £20 voucher if you were buying it with someone who was new to the hobby. Me being the hopelessly honest prat I am admitted at the counter that my freind wasn't new and that he'd actually been doing this for years. Whomever it was at the till just kind of looked around and muttered "I'm giving you free money" and stamped my voucher anway.
They can go for the "hard sell" at times because I imagine there's some kind of policy for them to live up to. I litterally had a time where I was looking at a Heldrake box and one of the guys walked up to me and opened with "You've been looking at that a lot, why not buy it?". But most of the time you find yourself chatting with them about the hobby when they get a moment to. They generally are swell guys/gals ^^
I do miss jobs where the responsibility ends with a door frame, but the satisfaction of teaching is worth the extra work. As are the extra lie ins.
Reg people who have left, some were in the company prior to the relaunch, Andy (bald, beard, Scottish) is now in black library, Amy writes the new product descriptions on the website, and Dan (rugby player looking lad) is back behind the scenes painting the exhibition hall models.
Only two have actually left the business that I am aware of.
And those aren't the folk I'm thinking of. Could just be they're not on weekends any more, but my friend living nearby hasn't seen them either during the week. I'll stay out of describing/naming because it's not fun to speculate.
Teaching has always been something I really wished to do, specifically design... I just watched my mother working until 6pm at school, then until midnight once home, 35 years, until very recentky. The brain haemorrhage was a sign to slow down at age 50, but she persisted to 60. I physically couldn't cope with what I saw her doing, or the politics if I landed somewhere unpleasant, etc.
Up there with firemen on the respect ladder, in all honesty.
I've only just started as a teacher; I'm still in my first year, so I've yet to encounter the really stressful side of the profession. Something to look forward too. Teachers unfortunately don't seem to enjoy very long retirements, sorry to hear that your mother wasn't able to enjoy what would clearly have been a well deserved retirement.
I don't blame you for keeping away from it. The drunken nutters aside, I think bus driving would be a great job for the diversity of people and sights you get to enjoy, and being able to choose where you want to live knowing that you'll be able to find a good job. I always liked the idea of being a train driver, but could never find a straight forward route into it. I suppose the world doesn't need to see some idiot pretending he's superman as he hurtles through train stops.
So I finally finished assembling my set of crisis suits. I hope you dont mind the lack of painting on these. Now that I have the actual models sorted I'll be painting them to make ready our meet up
Besides the commander there arent any characters so no need to differentiate and the weapons are wyswig. Also it's an old commander model so it's gonna look a little peculiar on a smaller base than the normal crisis suits
Yeah I'm not fussed about others having painted armies, although I prefer using painted myself. All my crimson fists are now blue, but I've been a bit too focussed on pedro kantor this week to progress much with the army. Will probably bring the old Gk as I have enough of the whole army painted to field a fully painted 1-2k list. Will try to get pedro finished tonight though so I can get back to units.
My problem at the minute is I haven't got a spray booth and its far too cold to be spraying outside at the minute. Did that years ago and ended up with mottled plastic. Ill get to work on the ones I have got base coated at least.
Ah cool,a lot less pressure now. Though, I still want to get them looking somewhere near decent.
James do you use a booth for your airbrush? How do you contain the spray? Was considering gettin one for priming/basecoating. I figured it would be a but more consistent and wieldly than the spray can.
I have a French door in the room I paint in, which I keep open. I wear a mask and put newspaper down where I'm spraying, but other than that I just go for it. It's only a small cone so doesn't go everywhere. When it comes to airbrushing though, you'd be better off asking buttery, much more knowledgeable than me, and has helped me out in the past with a few queries. I even bought my last brush on bc's recommendation.
That's the problem. I dont really have anywhere with decent ventilation. Though I could probably wing it with a mask and cardboard box in the kitchen with the back door open. Which just isn't an option with the aerosol as it just goes everywhere!
Short term, by or on a windowsill in a cut out shoebox is okay.
Kitchen is fine as long as you take up any water you leave out for pets, and cover any fish tanks with a towel during and an hour afterwards.
It does leave a small film of coloured dust around the room after a couple of uses. If you were to paint an entire army in a weekend, you could wipe surfaces and find it.
Long term, a £50 extractor booth with a turntable from Amazon is worth it, but I'll admit I don't have one. I do however, clean my house myself. If an other half cleans the glassware and dishes you may find yourself on the short end of it after a few months.
The other benefit of the extractor is that it draws the paint past the model. Arguable better control of flow.
James is bang on about the mask. Dust masks work well, but I got myself "3M 7500 Spray Paint /Dust Mask Vapour Particulate Reusable respirator" - should be no more than £15 and you forget you're wearing it. I have lung damage, so I was overly cautious.
Thanks for the advice buttery . I have no pets or other halves to worry about so the short term solution might be handy. But Im surprised at the booth bein so cheap. The 3M stuff are usually pretty good, Ive used similar ones in the past at work. Over cautious is usually best at the least itll save you some discomfort.
Any advice on a beginner air brush and conpressor?
Shop around for this setup (compressor, tank, water trap, regulator and hoses), and then post what you'd like to get as an end result on Painting And Modelling on Dakka.
The brushes that come with are generally around the level of a controllable spray can, but the rest is solid and what you'll get in the UK without going silent/petrol.
I went with an Iwata HP-CS and its roughly bulletproof. But it depends what you want out of it.
Four reasons I'm not a fan of metal; paint chipping off, flattened detail if they get dropped, trying to pin fiddly bits, and heavy armies. I did my time carting around 4kg army cases. I've still got plenty, just try to avoid if possible.
FW resin if fine to work with, citadel is a pain. He has a few air bubbles and supports I forgot to remove, but I can live with it for the occasional model.
Yeah, it's a sod for chipping. I've only really found that my figures don't chip since starting to use two new primers - Halfords grey, and Vallejo airbrush.
Hearing you on weight, I usually carry 250 metal IG at a time due to only owning one case. The handle is like razor wire after walking from the Broadmarsh to the station. :(
Working with it though, I love metal. Something about it being much slower work, it's harder to instantly feth it up with a blade.
I think that's a part of why I don't like it, I used to do a lot of converting back in 2nd-3rd ed times (as in every model, lots of free time at 17 yrs old). Trying to hack through metal models was a nightmare, literal blood, sweat and tears all in vast quantities.
Yeah, I did my time pre-white metal when I was a young pup.
Now my metal Sisters drive me mad. The Exorcist is the wurst. The absolute currywurst. Never again. I'd buy three Penitent Engines but metal walkers? No, thank you.
Just confirming that everyone is still on for next Saturday? I plan on arriving at about 10 and getting a cup of tea, if anyone fancies a pregame hello.
I'm still in too I should be getting there for 10 too. Driving or bus Im not sure yet. You guys planning on having drinks in the afternoon? (Not to sound like a pisshead or anything I just have no idea what's normal at these things )
James, if you're there first thing, do us a favor please, and make sure they have actually reserved the table?
Last week was a hoot laugh, nobody put the sign up for my friend (that had been booked since this topic was made), so we got there and couldn't play.
Never happened before, I was wondering if the new scenic addition bumped older bookings off.
Aye, "BC" on the Sector Imperialis. If they've dropped it, anything is fine, but with it being Saturday, etc.
No real reason for "BC" other than it being easier to remember for everyone else if I'm late.
I can stay around for a bit, assuming I haven annoyed you to death by then. If you guys want to do the museum, I can watch your bags. Doing it on Sunday with a young lass to help her pick her first ever army.
May need help. I've brought the entirely wrong case. This is just 120 lasguns iirc. Had to creep silently out the house this morning and goofed.
Dud bring Kroot though because pffffthb
I didn't post originally, as I wasn't going to be available on the date, but if this now an anytime thing count me as a potential; only down in Leicester, so it's not far.

Sure; will be a while before I'm back down there.

Anyone who wants to play against me and the Tau for practice:
We don't mind playing one person, but you must be able to split your force evenly into 2 X 1010 and treat them as allies rather than one 2020 force. We learned the hard way that it really does make a difference, especially in horde armies.
We've just never gamed as allies and need to be sure the stuff runs okay together.
My list is:
CCS Yarrick
Lotsa infantry running about
A chimera with cyclops bombs
A leman russ executioner
So I'm not exactly efficient list builder there.
But don't feel you have to play us if you wanna get a WHW game in!
It's for a WHW tourney which means we're pretty likely to face a more moderate list- efficient or fluffy, but not leaving you raw and bleeding after.
There are a couple of very stringent players on the circuit, we're just hoping we end up on other tables. Or that they couldn't find doubles players.
@Jadenim. I don't have a tau, craftworld eldar, necron, or SoB army. I do have an army of pretty much everything else in various states of build (literally from everything fully painted to still in cellophane wrap). I have a mechanized ork army that I haven't used with the current codex that I'd like to crack out again. I've also been painting up Crimson fists and cult mech, so I'd be happy to use either of those instead, but they won't be anywhere near finished.
@BC I only ever take moderate lists unless I've been specifically asked to really try and come up with something competitive for tourni friends who want practice, although since AoS that doesn't happen often like it used too.
I'd be up for joining you guys whenether, though you seem to have enough if you're going for doubles. Consider me backup if anyone drops out I suppose
I'm looking to go up to WHW this Saturday the 27th, open invitation to any and all. I've got a Khorne Daemonkin/CSM army and can match up to about 1500 points, with MOSTLY fully paints models, for those who don't know.

sunnyday wrote: Hi guys I live in Notts and I've not played since 5th edition 40k. Would quite enjoy a casual game one Saturday if anyone's patient enough?
More the merrier. I live in Manchester so it's a six hour round trip i.e. I can do it now and then.
I expect we'll arrange something again for early April.
Turns out its a campaign weekend this Saturday! Probably should have checked that before organising anyone...
I'll book a table anyway and post back if I get denied or not. Just bear in mind if you decide to come up it could be quite cramped and if there's 3+ of us we might have to form teams :/
Automatically Appended Next Post: And they're fully booked! It seems like theirs an event on every weekend for the next three weeks according to the calendar.
Gotta love the wonderful planning from me there. Friday the 4th might be a good day for me, if anyone would be interested in joining me up there then?
Sounds good Buttery It's booked in advance this time. I believe Mellamoluigi from here on the forums is gonna be coming down with Tyranids or Dark Angels but we'll see how it pans out.

I often play Mella. Make sure that you take your best list (and some anti-air)...
Raaather than trying to cram us all into one game perhaps it would be preferable to do something of a mini-tourney and alternate against eachother, with Butter and their partner being one team?
My brain is gum right now... We need the practise against two people wielding 1010 each. Basically two-person teams of 2020 total, but not one force of 2020 if that makes sense. 4040 on the table in play.
My big words are failing me. Playing one person wielding two independent forces of 1010 would also be okay, but we need the format practise and don't want to face one 2020 force.
We could always do morning or afternoon if it's impractical.

Hmm, if we do end up with 5 of us that will exclude one person is all. If it comes to that I could run some errands in town for the afternoon so maybe you guys could do that for the second game.
I can do up to 1500 points of either CSM or Khorne Daemonkin.
If it makes it any easier, I'm not sure I can do the 4th; I'd need to take the day off work. Not a problem, but I need to check what's going on in the office first.
Would it be possible for me to join? I have up to 2000 points of Skitarii army that needs dusting.
You're entirely welcome! Would love to see some Skitarii, never once gone against them before.
I'm starting to lose track of the amount of people we'll be having now, if people could just drop me a little confirmation PM before the 4th that would be swell
Well if there were five people, one could go vs two of us using a second force, and the other two could go 1v1?
I'm also half asleep to be fair.
I can equally just bugger off and not make it complex.
Didn't mean to co fuse anyone! I haven't got finances to do a couple of trips this month unless something changes dramatically, so we were looking to see how the armies work together before April. We could shush and find another day that doesn't complicate stuff for you guys.
Ah I see, I thought you weren't cool with going 2v1 is all. I'm sure we'll all work it out when we get there, however many of us it'll be. I've requested a second table in any case.
Are you still accepting new folks to beat up on? I curiously took a glance at this thread and it's amazing that there are so many of you guys so close to WHW!
I'm currently sporting over 2000 points worth of Chaos Space Marines and currently painting/assembling my Hive Fleet Behemoth.
I also have a friend who is so used to beating me with his gun line of Tau, that I'm hoping that I could bring him along to one of these meetings. I shall pray to the Chaos Gods/Hive Mind that you guys will be able to knock him down a notch! (Best friend of 19 years and such).
We've always tried to have a good time with the game, since it's well.. a game! But we are always eager to meet new people and to learn more about the game, and you guys sound like someone who wouldn't throw models at us .
We fear Lizardmen players with their "toad" models for that very reason...
I can equally just bugger off and not make it complex.
Don't do that lets make it a proper gathering!
Absolutely this ^
If we can turn this into a real meetup of Nottingham gamers it'll be totally worth the complications of trying to organise the games. I would just much appreciate having people send me a confirmation PM so I can keep a proper tally of how many are coming for certain. Doesn't have to be now if you're unsure, just send it me before the 4th and I can book more tables appropriately, or i'll just go by the amount of people who post here.

Come on down dude! Meetups at the 4th, next Friday. Another Chaos player would be swell Might have to end up getting a third table by the looks of things. Fridays usually aren't TOO packed up so should be okay, i'll call up WHW tomorrow and have a chat with the folks.
Buttery Commissar wrote: Unfortunately, my gaming partner has had to back out*. I'll still roll up, but now I can be a little more free and easy with point values.

That's a shame. You wanted to try yours and his specific doubles list right?
In any case I called up and got us 3 tables booked. Sounds like it's going to be a quiet night so we should have them all day. I'll be there first thing in the morning at 10, come look for tables booked for Mark Rigley (me) with a Chaos force set up on
Jadenim wrote: OK, I've got the day off, should also be there 10-11. Do we have a preferred points value so that I can write a couple of lists before the day?
There is a (free entry) event on the 25th of March:
In countless battles in the 41st Millennium, Commanders are forced to make the hard decision to lay down the lives of thousands, if not millions of their troops in order to achieve their aims. Many wars have gone on for countless years and the only objective is the total destruction of enemy forces. In such wars, waves and waves of troops will be sent in to fight, with little support or hope of survival, simply to wear down the enemy’s fighting spirit and ammunition stores.
In this free event, re-live these horrendous wars as you deploy wave after wave of troops against the enemy in the hope of breaking them. Have you got what it takes to send your warriors into the War of Attrition and survive the Meatgrinder?
I prefer the "Mark got us into the VIP area" way of telling it Makes me sound like I have connections.
And sorry Maden, I would've suggested Friday but I'm having a bit of a big dental surgery tommorow and I certainly won't be talking much this weekend. Can't wait for that.
AEIOUMadden wrote: No worries. I was thinking if no one could make it I'd try the Friar Lane shop for a pick up game. No clue how well that'd go though.
It won't. You have to book in in advance. That's why you see most of the old regulars at whw now.

Oh wow didn't realise it was like that, glad I checked now. Might even try WHW for a pick up game. But I imagine thats a slim chance on an event weekend.
@CaoCao: Btw hope the surgery goes alright tomorrow!

Might be worth a call and asking, he may have rescinded the policy. Killed the hobby activity there for a good while. Might have changed.

Turns out it's still bookings only for games at Friar Lane which sucks. Went down to WHW today to see some of the tournament and there was plenty going on even without a game.
Next weekend is free of any events if anyone fancies a game?
I've just built the genestealer cult if you fancy a 600 point game? Unless you have added since the last game, in which case I'll have time for up to 1.5k.
I can book one tomorrow if you want, out watchin the rugby at the mo. Not sure what WD is since tooltips arent working on my phone but Ill be running some sort of CAD.
Brilliant, cheers mate. For 600 points we can just use 4'x4' and have space for books? I'll apologize now, as they will be bare plastic. I won't have any time to paint this week, and any time that might occur is dedicated to Polux.
See you then, I'll pm you my mobile in case anything comes up.
Well Hi guys i know its a bit late but would any of you like a game today or tomorrow at WHW vs Chaos (can play any points from 1-2500). Was ment to be having a game today but irl has got in the way so my friend cant make it sad times. any way thanks for your time.
What a knackering day. Finished on 39 victory points, -1 attrition points, 1 win, one definite loss, and one questionable loss. Was good to see you all, even if I didn't get to play anyone from the thread.
I played the weekend this was based on. The games we played were far longer (enough time to actually get your troops back), so the pacing was much less frantic and tiring.
Sorry for not catching up with you guys, unfortunately my friend and I were two of the people who hadn't even been served food by 1.15, we'd have brought butties had we known.
Was thinking of heading on down again to WHW next weekend, 9th of April, if anyone's interested in joining? I -actually- checked in advance this time and there's no huge event on so that's a bonus.
As always, 1000-1500 points of either generic CSM or Khorne Flakes for me.
Well that's 4 of us. Perhaps we go Tau/Skittarii VS Orks and Chaos? 750 each would be a nice quick enough game. I'll book it as soon as Sunday so I'm sure no one else is coming.
Just floating an idea here but has anyone here played the board game Relic or Talisman? Saw a couple folks playing Relic on a table in bugmans last week and I do own a copy ^^
Haha yea that may be a tad bit asymmetrical! We can sort it on the day I guess.
I plan to get a crap load of painting done this weekend. By next week I should have atleast a squad and my commander fully finished. Of course I say this just to make sure I do it lol
I hate to say it (especially after naggin) but Im gonna have to drop out. Ive been summoned to manchester by mates I havnt seen in ages and I cant pass it up :/.
The fight between your daemon prince and the knight was bugging me, so I did the math.
The probability of your prince not causing a hull point was 0.83%, with some assumptions here and there. But ye, that's a dice game for you.
Oh Yhea, the dice hated my guts, except when I blew up your entire squad with one shot of the havoc launcher.
But I enjoyed both the games guys, despite the salt ^^ That kind of rng amuses me, even if I didn't show it. Do apologise if I seemed a tad off all day (more off than usual), I was running off 4 hours of sleep from the night before :S What a great idea.
Would anyone be willing to buy me the Beta pattern warlord head (provivded I cover all costs of the head + shipping to US) and I will buy you a transfer sheet or etched brass?
I am really looking for the Warhammer World exclusive head
Looking for someone with Orks (and patience) to assist with a scenario play in the summer holidays. Orks do not need to be painted, but do need to be clearly marked and physically resilient.
A twelve year old on the edge of the aspergers spectrum would like to break through a guarding band of space wolves, "loot" my reaver Titan, and then fight the reinforcements with the Titan. He only really owns enough Orks to knock over a post office, so if possible we'd like to make it more of a struggle:reward scenario.
I'm building a platform for the back of the Titan so the Orks can sit up there in lieu of a missile launcher.
That could work in theory! I also have some flash Gitz myself that could take part if I pin the arms.
All he has is grots and boyz, so not a challenge for even vanilla wolves.
Yeah they won't do much! The summer holidays are going to be interesting as I'm getting married, but if you have a date in mind and I'm free I'll come over. I could join the game, or organise a game with someone else and bring another army and not intrude if he's a little apprehensive of new faces.

Hiya mate, can't do Monday but can you do that weekend, Saturday the 7th maybe?
Im back in wolverhampton that weekend for a family wedding. But I may be able to do the sunday. This saturday coming I cant do either as Ill be watchin forest play wolves
@ Tremble you'll struggle to get a pick up game, it's really more an organized meet up. I would if I didn't have a work moderation the following week. I'm sure someone here will take you up on it though.
Have to leave home tonight and not sure if/what to pack!
Hiya sorry if Im a bit late. I can do wednesday night from about 5.45pm on the way home from work. Would 500 to 750pts be ok? 750pts is the highest I can go, which might be ideal for the timings.
Not really a regular but me and a few others in here seem to meet up sporadically once a month. Never played on wednesday either but I have popped in and its been fairly quiet but it might be worth asking.
Theres plenty to see there. I won't be there untill around 17.45 though. But there's a new exhibit on at the minute with all the space marine chapters which might be worth a look.

You'll be fine without booking a table for Wednesday evening. You might even be able to have a game on the new warhammer40k table!
I'm local to Notts and nearly always up for a game at WHW, though usually only during weekends

I might be interested in popping up for half term (23rd-12th for me) - nothing solid as of yet, but I might consider popping a request in, if you'd have me.

I don't mind. Mella does play with a secret bottle for collecting tears though, so bring your A game!
@Mella (feels weird addressing you by your username), I'm off w/c30th May. Might even have a few more marines painted by then...
