Although we must sadly close our Reaper 2025 thread...
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/815584.page
We can now open our Reaper 2026 thread with something we have all been eagerly awaiting.
Hot. Dwarf. Bondage.
Yours with a $40 purchase.
AND that's not all! For $60 you get some co-ed equal opportunity bondage!
Another neat release is 3 takes on Col Aratath? Kol Arth? No... Cal Arath available at 3 stages in his life from a mere wet-behind-the-ears Barbarian Prince, to a ruthless Barbarian Conqueror, to a Barbarian King working hard on tax reform and signing a trade agreement with the Savage Sultan and the Uncivilized Emir.
And finally we have an "Oxidation Beast" also known as a "Rust Louse" a "Corrosion Bug", a "Decay Dung Beetle", and an "Entropy Chinasaur". Just the thing to give Sir Forscale a rough day.
So it looks like we are off to a good start for 2026 and Reaper's proud tradition of WTFedness.

Agreed. It is good that we've equal opportunity sacrifices as opposed to the typical female eye candy sacrifice (often topless or fully nude).

The inspiration for said beast was from a pack of plastic child's toys. Yes, even BITD, toys were used for gaming purposes. Says something about us all , maybe?
Not really a fan of the whole sacrifice thing. But then I never did like minis that were supposed to be casualties/corpses either. They seem more useful for dioramas than for gaming. Also, Dwarves are worthless for sacrificial purposes. No evil entity actually wants them. Offering up a dwarf is actually insulting.

Regarding sacrifices and casualties. I understand where you are coming from on that and usually agree. However, owing to at least one age of imperialism minis ruleset ( Soldier's Companion) and when I still played RPGs, I occasionally needed them. The RPG situation is obvious, but at least in Soldier's Companion colonial forces needed to recover their wounded or the natives would "come with knives and cut up what remains", thus that unit would take a morale penalty if they left their wounded behind. As this was 1 mini = 1 man, having to carry your wounded did hamper your unit's effectiveness. 5 wounded to carry reduces a 20 man platoon to 50% effectiveness as five healthy soldiers must carry the wounded, thus not fighting.

Search Amazon.
They've been in production since the late 60s/early 70s.
And yes, they ARE the original inspirations for the Landshark, Owlbear, & Rust Monster.
72556
Post by: Red Harvest
Not just inspiration, but actually used on the table during games by Gygax et al. The land shark is also a SNL reference, FYI, and I think it was inspired by the Jaws movie. They are the cheap plastic bag of toys that one could find in a drug store or grocery store BITD. Originally made in Hong Kong or Taiwan, IIRC. I think they were supposed to be Kaiju. Godzilla was a trendy thing at that time.

Hard to believe it but we are half way through January in the distant future year of 2026 - the year of Ray Bradbury's "There will come soft rains" and the classic silent film Metropolis.
So let's see what our miraculous far future technology has wrought! Besides a world wide computer network suitable for discussing toy soldiers that is...
Reaper's early line of angels is one of the things that attracted me to the company, it was a sign they were doing something (slightly) out of the box for miniatures. The problem for metal angels of course was always the weight of the wings, so it's nice to see them popping up in plastic.
Thankfully, members of this race of subterranean heat-loving amphibians are rarely encountered on the surface world; such meetings always end in bloodshed. Fire newts thrive in inhospitable caverns with unbreathable sulfurous, ash-filled air, lava flows, and boiling pools of mud. Their society is militaristic, focused on conquering territory. They create little, save for weapons and armor, and are skilled smiths. They are sadistic and keep slaves for short periods before ritually roasting them alive and devouring them.
A few months back, a tremor opened an undiscovered passage in the Caverns of Doom, linking a series of steamy, muddy grottos to fire newt territory. The fire newts ran afoul of the many mudmen dwelling within the muck and have been at war ever since. A band of adventurers stumbled into the midst of the war and were forced to retreat. They returned to Barrowgate, muddy and bloody, but with tales of a vast, unclaimed fortune of uncut gemstones embedded in the cavern walls.
What can I possibly add?
And finally a pair of dancing fiends! The wizard can also double as someone doing semaphore.
So a nice start to 2026.

These were very common toys in drugstores in the 80’s. I think they were originally based on monsters from Japanese TV shows. Their ubiquitous and affordable nature is why early DnD based so many monsters on them.

Earlier than that. Late 1960's and early 1970's.

Alas January is coming to an end, farewell MLK day decorations and Indian Republic Day parades, but we can look forward to Valentines Day and the Superb Owl so there's that.
And more Reaper minis!
You might not think that Arilyn Water Sorceress is all that, I mean what's she gonna do "I cast Water Ball" isn't nearly as intimidating as what Farilyn Fire Sorceress can do. But then you remember that the human body is like 98% water and... yeah. Some fun to be had there.
Vampire Count Van Storm raises an interesting question. Why is he (??) $10 while Arilyn is just $5 and the difference seems to be between printed models and plastic Bones. Mass production is still much cheaper than bespoke printing jobs. Chose your casting medium carefully my friends.
But then this Vampiric Servant is $10 and plastic, so... I dunno?
Speaking of which, the Fairy Dragon takes advantage of plastic's flexibility by having transparent wings. You can always paint them solid but it offers some cool options.
Like most gamers I associate beastmen with the calm serenity of a goat chewing his cud in a field. So imagine the shock your players will feel when suddenly faced with a beastman bezerker!
And his girlfriend (maybe?) Vorda the Fury!
OMG, yes, I need these!
Last but not least we have 75mm Voodoo Queen who can test your skills on a larger subject. Or serve as a Voodoo Queen Giant for that Against the Giants-New Orleans Edition game you've always meant to run.
So another good month of randomness. My only complaint is there should be a sprue of arms and legs we can stick to those chalky heart candies and make our own monsters.
Maybe the bitz box?
Hmm...

February is the month of love, and digging out your car, and Reaper is there for you.
This month's freeby is an elf thief with a cloak and pointy ears and everything! Though why she only steals elves is a mystery to me.
Then we have a team of adventures who go by the collective name of the Dawnseekers!
I heard they briefly succeeded in their quest around 6am this morning but then lost it. They'll try again tomorrow.
Not a bad party but 2 wizards and 2 fighters (plus a cleric) seems unbalanced, and I don't see any ranged weapons among them. I guess it comes back to what level the 2 wizards are. They're also lacking a thief, which could be useful if they need to steal any elves.
And finally a wolf pack, just the thing to intercept allied shipping the north Atlantic and starve out the British.

Post by: Kid_Kyoto
Alas the end of Feburary is nigh, three days earlier than it seems it should be. Curse you Augustus Caeser for stealing two days to pad out July and August!
But at least Reaper is here to offer us some comfort.
The Wolf Pack (q.v.) is now joined by...
A Dire Wolf who is like a wolf but more dire.
We get a bunch of Dwarves including a king, a bodyguard, a priest and a bezerker and the nice thing is you can swap them around because honestly once you have a short dude with a beard will anyone really care?
A very nice Two-Headed Troll who can be easily converted into a One-Headed Troll with the swipe of a hobby knife. You can even magnatize it so it can do double duty. Who else is going to give you an offer like that?
A dragon rider! No! Wait! A HALFLING dragon rider! For all those people out there who play Halflings and also have a pet dragon! A Copper Dragon if I remember my Monster Manual correctly. Another combination covered!
Town Guard. They guard. They live in a town. Not much to add. I like them.
An Elven Cat, because Elves are too special to have mundane cats, they need their own special cats who can purr in Hobgoblin and are 90% resistant to sleep/hold/charm spells. Have I mentioned I don't like Elves?
Al Miraj (q.v.) a foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent with nasty, big, pointy teeth.
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/736093.page
No doubt many of you remember Reaper's various fungus men, but no doubt you've wondered when Reaper will FINALLY get around to releasing a leader! Well wonder no longer.
Standing over 3" tall we have Voblosnood the Fungal King! A Myconid Giant!
But that just raises another question, does Voblosnood have a wife, and is she disturbingly hot?
Happy to report the answer to both questions is yes.
And you just know someone, somewhere, is saying "Roll for seduction"
Has this ever happened to you? The adventurers arrive in town at the station and now they need someone to unload their trunks and take them to the cab but you don't have the right models you have to break for the night? Well have I got good news for you, the Red Caps are here.
I have never used Will'o'whisps in a game but here are some if you want to. Molded from clear plastic.
A dwarf brewer! At last something useful for the Dwarves.
When your name is Adrasteia Winterthorn you really don't have many other career options than vampire.
A "Greater Barghest" which implies Reaper will be making a Lesser Barghest and a Greatest Barghest before too long.
And finally our first sci-fi model in a long time - Chit Jubal, Arkos Chopper. I dunno who Arhos is, or what he did, but based on this guy's looks I'm thinking Arkos is gonna get chopped.
So there we go. The two headed troll is, for me, the definite winner here, but the Fungus Queen is also strangely alluring.
Happy shopping everyone!

Space Troll trying his best Pulp Fiction Pose, dude, if you hold your gun like that you can't use the sight and you risk getting hit in the head by the ejecting shell!
I do like the biker, I just wish she was more generic, l could see buying 3 or 4 people riding their bikes like sane people but no more than one who's trying shoot behind her while speeding down the mean streets of Mega Neo Tokyo Zone 23. You know what I mean?

With March here mosquitos are coming out and that seems to be this month's Reaper theme!
This month's freeby is called "The Long Rest", hopefully she has some citronella in that camp fire or they're going to eat her alive!
But I hope she didn't try and swipe any branches from this guy.
But the skeeters aren't the scariest thing out there, not when the Bee Folk are on the warpath! Remember when you meet them you must always Bee Friendly, Bee Positive and Bee Ready to Run for your Life.
(note all the wings are transparent plastic, which is neat)
And if they don't get you, the Fearsome Murder Hornet will.
Was I the only one who thought Murder Hornets were going to be a bigger thing than they were? It's like quicksand all over again.
On the lighter side they have some Flower Fairies too.
And for Under the Sea action, some Kelpies, the deadliest but sexiest seaweed there is.
While in the air we have some smexy sylphs.
And fairy dragons, every 12 year old girl's favorite familiar.
And finally a mighty Alicorn just like Twilight Sparkle.
Hmm.
Is there any reason NOT to paint it like Twilight Sparkle? Has the 2010s MLP rolled around again yet or do we need to wait a few more years?
And finally 5 "Bloodclub Bugbears" for $30. Remember the first rule of Blood Club is we don't talk about Blood Club.

Same here, Reaper has just what you need for just about anything.
I don't recognize the name of the sculptor for Long Rest. Free lancer or new Reaper sculptor?
Knock off the Bee puns or you'll accidentally summon Mister B Natural. We do not want that. Oh no, no.
518
Post by: Kid_Kyoto
The Long Rest was sculpted by... (deep breath)... Guzel Baiguskarova.
Still no word on her DEET situation.
Also unveiled the Adepticon mini (not sure it will be available online)
And with Easter just a few weeks away we have this bit of cuteness of a new hatched Parakeet-Shark. Or whatever. Also comes with paints and Easter candy.
Stalking Wyvern, Flying Wyvern, collect them all.
(Wish they had a scale shot)
Gargoyles were always fun low to mid-level monsters. Immune to normal weapons they either require creativity or a lot of reliance on that guy with the Dagger +1.
A monstrous spider (large), do you actually need to specify that it is 'large' when you've already said it's monstrous?
Maybe you do to differentiate it from the "monstrous slug (huge)". It looks to me like it might be translucent plastic which would make for some fun slime possibilities.

Among the normal releases we've got...
A crystal golem, another clear model for some creative effects.
A squire who's just one head swap away from my Dunk and Egg game
Some fun goblins
A 75mm collector model, which could also serve as a giant in a 28mm game. or a Titan in a 6mm game!
Something really cool a $17 pirate airship. Just one man but neat.
Some sort of cow-man lumberjack.

And somehow it is May! Which means NEW STUFF!
This month's freeby is called "The Pickpocket" which as far as I can tell shows a nimble Ogre thief about to snatch a coin purse from a passing giant. The included halfling model is unrelated.
Next we have a "Bathalian", Reaper's wholly original line of squid-headed Brain Slicers, who are just the folks you should have if you need any Psychic Shredding done or have a scenario involving Thought Tearing.
And a Giant Lizard (Large), which implies there is a whole line of Giant Lizards coming from Extra-Small to Titanic.
Reaper now has so many Yetis they actually need to make a Yeti Champion to lead them.

Can the Yeti king be far behind? Then the Yeti Queen, the Yeti Court, and Yeti peasants? The Summer of Yetis is coming!
As a reminder, Himalayan Yeti models can also be used as North American Sasquatches (also known as Big Feet) but the conversion can be challenging for rookie modellers.
Skeleton Hounds. Now I want to make a Lich with his feet up by the fire and a pair of skeleton hounds munching on a bone. Maybe their own bones.
Not much to say about the Cave Troll, sometimes you just need the basics.
Oddly enough Monstrous Crayfishes (Large) are a major feature in White Plume Mountain which I was just writing a Retro Review about. Other than someone running an updated version of that classic I'm not sure who'd need one, but if you do, here one is!
Great Worms will always help the party catch Monstrous Crayfish, they're just cool that way. Great guys.
Reaper is doing updated versions of some of their classics. I always liked their invisible wraiths, it was sign that Reaper was doing original things with miniatures rather than combinations of guy with sword, guy with staff and guy with bow.

I like that troll. Got to remember to check for stock when I order from my favorite online stores.

I really like the halfling reappropriator and ogre. I wonder how big the ogre is given the size next to the halfling. Either the halfling is a bit bigger or the ogre is 1980s Ral Partha 25mm sized.

The ogre is sitting on a tree stump which makes him look shorter than he is. I don't think he's especially small.
My best guess is that his scenic base fills out a 40mm base.

True. My guess is still that he's old school scaled which isn't necessarily a problem as I do have their ogre porter who fits on a 25mm base (minus the wagon of course) and love that fig.

I hate it when players are too lazy to base their miniatures. At least GW did that back in the day when they released the Frodo with the One Ring on mini.

Yeah, we had a local during WHFB who (for a while) ran the joke of invisible Spirit Hosts for his Vampire Counts by just taking empty bases and flocking them.
Eventually he was politely told that he can't get away with that anymore.

Why? I think that is super clever.
Those skeletal dogs are mis-labelled. They are actually skeletal werewolves in wolf form.

You know what they say, June comes in like a Flumph, and goes out like a Flumph, it's basically 30 days of Flumphs. Which brings us to Reaper's June (and late May) releases! As a wise man once said... OK, OK. If people remember or have heard of even one monster from this book it's Flumph, the sole Lawful Good creature in the book. They're jellyfish. They fly by farting. They pee on you. They're helpless if turned over. They... I... you... Someone was paid money to edit this. Think about that. https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/736093.page This month's freeby is a... Whatever that is. I wonder if he has a disturbingly hot wife? Then we have a... Impersonator? Copycat? (Has no one created a D&D monster called a Copycat yet?) Duplicator? Oh wow they actually call it a mimic. And more mimics! Whole mimic family! Nah, they're doing a bar theme. I dunno who besides Kid Cthulhu is on the look out for this but, here it is! Including a highly slappable elf bard And a Otya... Othiy... thingy to take care of the trash out back. And what's a pub without some ghosts? And some Throg... Thog... Cave Lizard chiefs. Does Reaper really have enough Trog... cave lizard things to require both a chief and sub chief? Some Monstrous Spiders Medium, as opposed to Bestial Spiders Small and Fiendish Spiders Large And a Vari... Vere... Filipino Female Vampire Head Thing Rounding things out... Dwarf Wizard, who can pass as a Gnome Illusionist in case anyone actually wants to play a Gnome. And a Banshee. Am I bad person for knowing how to spell that and not Filipino Vampire Head Thing? Or are we long past worrying about unconscious cultural bias? This one time my dad had no idea how to spell Goast, and neither did I so we had to look at an old prayer book for Father, Son and Holy Ghost. True story. And finally a Fairy Princess, To go with the existing and extensive Fairy line. https://www.reapermini.com/search/fairy

I don't understand why you'd be surprised. He is a fun guy and women love that.

I like the female dwarf barmaid with dreadlocks, but have not painted the other Reaper Bones civvies I purchased last year, never mind assembled or painted the Guards of Traitor's Toil plastics. So I will wait. I'll probably buy the ogre pulling a cart when I do get Ms. dreadlock dwarf. For Traitor's Toil again, as I do not have suitable pack animal or vehicles for it. May actually need fairies too, but for RPG purposes.
As for needing civvies, Deth Wizards is a skirmish minis game where you can play a Necromancer, either solo, co-op, or PvP. One might need up to 15 civilians when you play the destroy the village scenario.

There is always a need for civilians in many, many games. It is a common complication.

Why do I now want an Ogre in an oversized trenchcoat putting the "Whaddaya buying?" pose from RE4?

Since my favorite Reaper fig has been mentioned I feel obligated to post my own conversion. Sorry but I don't have a solo pic of the fig so here he is with another ogre paladin and a troll druid/krampus. I disattached mine from the cart and added more stuff to his backpack along with some weapons and a shield from the wagon wheel.

Careful... that might be confused with an ogre flasher instead!

Thanks! Yeah, I didn't back the kickstarter but the preview concept art definitely hooked me as soon as I saw it. The female pirate ship bow figure was less of a success though as the scale turned out alot bigger than I expected, lol. She's practically Inquisitor 54mm sized!
