Then the other knight steps forwards, and imposing Satyr clad in White plate armour that has clearly been repaired, "I saw you fire that weapon... it interests me to find that i cannot name it, what iss it??"

So there are towers at the corners and at the gates right??
If so I would put archers in the towers for range and cover. spread the rest of the men evenly behind the gates... and leave out the local militia as it seems theyre not quite up to par with our opponents.
If its possible to survive the drop Id put a couple swordsman on top of the gate so that as the enemy closes on the gate they can drop down behind them.

Ranun awoke to peacefulness, glad he no longer heard the besieging of the castle.

He got himself out of the bed feeling refreshed. Looking at his bedside he could see his armor, battered - but not bloody as it seemed someone had cleaned it... but it could wait for now.

Ranun asks someone nearby, "Do you know where Sir Marta is at the moment?"

he begins to talk about the organisation, slowly you coax more and more info out of him and eventually you get a decent picture of whats happening, the organization uses the profiles of well known bodyguards to pinpoint potential targets, their arrogance is profound as they choose the most efective bodyguards as the guardians of their targets, instilling a sense of fear of the fact that noone is safe, of the man himself little is known save that he is an apt politician

I pay him and thank him for his troubles. I then begin to think. I am not a well known bodyguard, but was a replacement for one who fell sick. I didn't even know much about my client, or even what sort of importance he had. I need details. I am new to this town, and am not even a proper bodyguard. More of a freebooting bandit. If I can find some way of showing that to the assassains, I am sure that I will be left alone.

you open the door to the secret room and the sight makes your jaw drop, hundreds and hundreds of sheafs of parchment line the walls and after a brief examination you see the writs of promise of hundreds of dark elf politicians agreeing to support the late victim but in the center of the room there is an exquisitly carved handsword, the type you have seen the dragoran mercaneries use, long and curved with a distinct square tang that balances the blade of many-folded steel perfectly. The length of the weapon however has been shorteded to the point where it would comfortably fit over a the back of the wielder

While I wait outside the libary, I begin to look around the area i'm in. It seems to be very old and has many decrotive patterns carved into the stone. I start looking at them wondering if they mean anything. They look random but, as I look closer, a pattern begins to emerge, some of the symbols, every six symbols or so, seems to resemble letters from an ancient language I once worked on. I only know some of the letters as it was only one document. I don't know what it might mean but if it does i'm sure I will be able to decipher it eventually...

As I begin to work on the problem something returns to me. A distant memory seemingly brought back by looking at the strange symbols. I can begin to read the first part. It said:

Any o_e w__ c_n __a_ thi_ i_ worth__ of t__ treasur_ hi__e_ wit_i_ the_e w_lls. T_e ___asure wi_l o__y be cl__med b_ _he ch_s_n o__. I_ _s hidde_ i_......

Alot of the letters have been worn away over years of erosion and some are totaly alien to me. I can understand this part but, seemingly, someone has removed the rest of the message leaving it untraceable, unless it is writen somewhere else...

(Tallon) The message writhes and fades seemingly burn off the stone of the fortress, you look around to other walls and see them covered in more of the writing

(Ranun, Eagle) Marta looks at Rarora shrewdly, "Deal, but when you say access to the walls??"

(eagle) Marta nods, "It is the same with us all"

(noccy) You open the vault and move into its reccessed confines, the walls themselfs are made of the same white marble as the rest of the fortress but grooves have been ground out of the stone to allow for gold to be hammered in viens along the surface of the stone, wooden chests bound in gold line the walls and racks of weapons stand in the corners, in the center is a strangley ornate sword, you recognise it immediatly, it is the blade of secrets, the twin of which, the blade of truth, has been lost to some private collector, but this weapon is an assassins best friend, the graceful handsword made of beaten white gold enchanted to never dull or dent or break is inlayed with lines of what the blacksmiths call "Black fire" liquid enchanted obsidian that bonds to the metal it is cast with but never sets.

He has a look at it and grimaces, "Its made of simple iron but its well balanced, theres no makers mark but the curves of the points suggest this would be silent if thrown, i dont know how to identify whos this would have been without a makers mark, and if i diddnt know better i would say it was mine, the workmanship is similar

As I finaly manage to gain entrance to the libary, I make a mental note to come back and examine some more of these strange words.

Once i'm inside, I walk over to the librarian and ask him whether they have any books on magic or incantations, particularly anything very old. As he leads me towards a dark corner of the libary, next to a shelf stacked with very old books, I keep an eye on the dark elf. He soon leaves though, and I can continue with my search.

After a while, the librarian returns and asks me if I have found anything of use. A look at him and say, "Yes, I have. in this book I have found many spells of ancient power but only some of them are still legable" He nods and turns away. I continue reading, making note of all the spells I can use....

(Fantasy Role Playing Game(Non Warhammer))Stone, Act two: Dawn of Darkness(Infinite Places Left) @ 2011/05/22 08:16:32

Post by: Tyranic Marta

many of the spells found are so aincient in origion that their meaning has become obselete or confused with the passing of time, one however stands out as useful and useable, as the spells that are still legible are generally far more powerful than a mage could hope to control on his own, it would need a coven of ancient sorcerors to cast the spells, let alone control them

the spell you manage to find is an arcane spell

which i wil pm to you....

lols you dont care about ur former employer?? epic

anyhoo

you hunt for a time and improve your skills testing and refining the new trap weapons until a passing caster finally offers to make the trip wire magical and ethereal

now the weapons trip wire automatically senses movement in its field

and aditionally it automatically goes until it hits an obstruction regardless of distance, but be careful if your putting it in open terrain, the results could be amusing

the crier gets a simple kill-pay job through for the required cleasing of a bandit group of orcs outside the city walls.

I go out to lure them into a trap. I place some gold in a clearing near, but not too near, their base of operations. I then set up hidden snares and then set up a cross fire with my tripwire tracks, which are disguised, and myself, dug into a pit and with plenty of food. I then wait for the Orc gang.

EagleArk, I thank you for accepting my offer and I look forward to working with you.

While I wait for more replies, I visit the local blacksmith. I purchase from him a well made silver dagger and a scabard which I fasten under my robes. Next, I visit the town jewlers and buy myself an enchanted jewel of protection to ward off the dangers I will undoubtedly encounter. After I finished at the jewlers I finish my little shopping trip with a visit to the town cartographer to purchase a map of the northen mountains.

It's title is 'On the Finding and Taming of Fire Dragons, By F.K. Harak' It is writen in an archaic language, but I can read it. Fighting the dark elves for a time, Iliad was mortally wounded by a dark elven assassin, and as his blood spilled out onto the cobbles, Iliad had a vision of a man in golden armor promising him life if he would only serve him for a time yet unnamed. Young and foolish, Iliad agreed, and was restored to life, and fought off the dark elves, and claimed victory. As the years melted past, Iliad forgot his oath, and returned home. When the necromancer Gogoth-Mal marched his undead hordes upon elven lands, Iliad took up the call, and battled the dead. When Iliad confronted and slew Gogoth-Mal, the golden figure appeared once again, demanding his service, he refused, and to his horror, Iliad had his soul ripped from his body, and held by his malefactor. His body began to rot at an accelerated rate, leaving only a skeleton behind. Forcing his soul back into his withered shell, the Golden Man once again demanded his service, and Iliad had no choice but to obey. As Yarnek and his archers unleash a hail of arrows on the deamons below a couple start hacking at the grappling hooks so they will be of no use, causing a couple demons to fall and either die or seriously break somethin, hard to tell right away. But they're atleast hurtin given the screaming.
I give the order to raise the gate and lead a charge into the deamons lines, with broad arcing swings I cleave several deamons in two and sever arms and legs of a couple more. My fellow swordsman handle themselves well, with their greater reach the deamons daggers find little purchase, and those that do fail to strike anything vital. But the blades are poisoned and the wounds begin to fester, for the saftey of the men we have to fall back inside the gate...

ooc figure i been outta the loop a lot so id make a big contribution

I hand 40 gold coins to the dwarf and offer to enchant his arrows using blaze and ice flare so that they will be more effective in combat. When he returns, I will make the enchantments.

Untill then, I will work on reathing my own silver dagger in enchantments of sharpening, toughening and many other basic enchanting spells, the sort known to any wizard of significant skill.

Iliad's mind reeled at the possibility that the Golden Man's grip on him was slipping. For centuries, he had toiled for the being, obeying without question, slaying his foes without a second thought. But now... he was slowly slipping through the Golden Man's fingers, his destiny gradually becoming his own. Calling upon his necromantic power, more and more corpses burst from the soil, all eager to serve. Iliad smiled cruelly and without mirth. "I serve, for now..."

As I drink with my freind, a shadowey figure, dressed in green, carrying a narled staff and with a small dagger fastened to his belt, walked into the tavern. I immediatley recognise him as a Twining Druid. I turn from my drink and walk over to him.

'Freind', I say as I approach him, 'are you interested in a job?'

'Why? Who are you?' He replies.

'My name is Edon Garaklore, High Mage of Valdis' I say. 'I am going on a great quest and require your services as a Healer and a Magic User.'

'Oh, you. I saw your advert in the main square. I will lend you my services as long as I can have my first weeks pay in advance and you buy me a tankered of ale.'

'Fine,' I reply. I hand him ten gold coins and walk over to the bar and buy some ale. I return to his table and he had pulled an ingredient pouch from his pack. I was amazed by what I saw. On his pouch was the symbol of the Flantasic Cult, the most reveared Healer cults in the realm.

As I placed the tankered on the table, he spoke. 'My name is Darath Janlock' he said. 'I was once the healer to the Lord of Glane but, since his untimely demise on the battlefield. Since then, I have wandered the world in search of a job. I was trained by the Flantasic Cult in the arts of healing and have worked in the field for over 150 years. When do you intend to leave, I will be ready.'

I reply to this by saying, 'I wish to depart as soon as my Satar freind returns and I have been able to find myself an archer...'

OOC: To avoid any confusion, Valdis is my home town.

After recruiting myself a healer, I begin to search for an archer. I haven't got time to wait for one to come to me, but I don't know where to start. At first I consider approaching the town guards but, seeing how the fought during the assault, I don't think that any of them would abandon their city for a quest.

After that, I decide the best thing to do was to ask the landlord, as he might well know of someone suited to my needs.

Once I had spoken to the pub landlord, who had pointed me in the direction of a group of elves huddled in the corner, I though I had found myself a perfect warrior but, when I reached the group, I noticed a shimmer around one of the warriors. I quickly managed to remove this disguise field and it turned out that they were a group of reletivly poorly trained young mage from one of the southern cities who had tried to masquarade as warriors to get free beer. Suffice to say a fight broke out and they were promply thrown, quite litraly, out of the taven door.

After that little incident, I decided to abandon my search for an archer and hope one would come to me (HINT). However, as I walked back to my seat at the bar, I noticed something wedged in a crack between two stones in the floor of the tavern. When I looked closer, it began to glow with a bright blue light, like some sort of magic gem similar to the one in the top of my staff. I picked it up and it glowed stronger. I showed it to Rarora but he said that he couldn't see anything and that it was just a dirty stone. I quickly pocketed the 'Gem?' and sat down.

As I contemplated the cause of this glowing gem, something came back to me, something I had read about in an ancient scroll I had once read, Mage-Sight...

Mage-Sight is the ability to see spells and the magical properties of artifacts, invisible to most others. Mage-Sight tags were used by wizards to leave trails for other wizards or to denote items of importance such as spell stones containing powerful infomation. It can be used for many things from picking out magical artifacts amoung common junk, searching an area for magical traps and even detecting magical skill in a person or creature.

I pay a visit to the stables to collect my horse, and a small pony for Rarora, before making my way to the town square, where I had instructed my party to meet.

We assembled in the Square, me on my pure white elven steed, Darath on a brown forest stallion, Ranrun on another brown horse (I think this is how a saytar would travle at speed, correct me if I am wrong) and Rarora on the small brown pony I had purchased him.

As we were about to leave, a young wood elf named Orac Nelang rode into the courtyard on a brown elven horse dressed in a hunters cloak and carrying a Longbow. On his back, he had a quiver full of grey-fletched arrows. He rode towards me and anonced the fact that he wished to join the quest. I accepted his offer and put the last of my things into the bag attached to the side of my horse. I was dressed in long, white robes and my staff was straped across my back.

I motioned to the guards to open the gates, which they quickly did, and we left the City of Phobos. Once outside, we took the main road to the north and began our jorney to the mountains, each of us dreaming of the Treasure and Dragons we would find...

*Turns to Rarun* I am perfectly aware that you could handle these Dragorans but, *Motions to the rest of the group* do the rest of us look like Melee Warriors to you?

As I say this, the first of the Dragorans emerge from around the bend in the road. I motion to the rest of the group to tell them to hold their fire.

We wait about a minuite and a half longer untill they are all comfortably within range. There are a group of them, seemingly being lead by a slightly larger warrior in front. Then I drop my hand, this being the signal to fire.

Darath was the first to act, casting rapid growth, he made roots burst forth from the ground, tangling themselves around the feet of the warband.

Ranun bursts forth from the woods, as per the plan, and begins to engage the remaining warriors.

Orac and Rarora leap down from their trees and fire on the entangled warriors.

Myself and Darath lower ourselves from the trees and begin to fight. I cast blaze on two of the warriors, setting them on fire. Darath raises his staff into the air and brings it down with great force. He casts lashing vines, causing thorned, posionous vines to come forth from his staff and assail the Dragorans.

We began to look around but then, suddenly, a voice shouts. It was Orac 'LOOK OUT!'.

I turned just intime to see a great Dragoran warrior leap out of the forest behind me. He swung his great axe towards my chest. It would have been a killing blow, if the attack hadn't have been brushed aside by my enchanted jewle.

Rarun was over in an instant. He swung his mace with mighty force, shattaring the warriors armour and his bones. 'Thank you' I say to him. 'It's nothing', he replies.

We continue to fight the rest of the warriors...

Ok, Back to the Story:

As I look around, I see more of the Dragonian warriors assailing my party. They seem to be under the command of a larger Dragonian with a deeper hue to his scales. I imediatly turn to face this gargantuan warrior and raise my staff above me. The gem glows with a bright light and a bolt jumps out from it. This bolt hits the warrior square in the chest and instantly turns to ice. I follow this up with a Blaze, targated at, as well as the warrior himself, some of the shurbs in the area at his feat. The flames leap up and surround him.

Knowing I have an extreamly capable healer in our party, I follow up my onslaught with Paintide. The blue gem in my staff glows brighter for a second as a red bolt leaps forth. This blot seems to resemble faces of the dead, streaming out of my staff and towards the Dragonian. These faces hit him, getting in around his armour and boosting my already devestating damage.

As Paintide goes off, I feel a sharp backlash of power, the price of casting Paintide. It throws me backwards, because I had never experienced it before. I land on the ground and a cloud of dust wafts up around me. I pull myself to my feat and glance over to Darath, who had seen me cast the spell. I shout to him, requesting a heal, before turning back to continue the fight. I am thankful now that I managed to recruit myself a Druid. I turn and look to where my opponent was standing. For such a strong and powerful opponent, what I saw amazed me...

you can say that they are casting healing aura and stuff but you cannot INTRODUCE them like you did to the archer and the druid because thats the DM's job.

Ok, thanks on the heads up about RPG rules and conventions. I was not aware of these because, as I have said, this is my first RPG

So then, lets get on with the story.

ok lots of stuff going on, more or less what noccy has said is correct, but i have been very clear in that i DONT run my RPG's with an iron fist, you more or less have control of what happens, if your foundering then ill throw some stuff in your way but if your happy to carry on then thats cool, if of course you prefer input from me as it seems most of you do then im happy to carry on. Speaking of which you have drastically underestimated the skill and durability of Dragorans, a couple of dozen is a LOT

The dragorans almost seem to know the ambush was happening, the arrows either are avoided with almost supernatural grace or are deflected of the strong armour plating of their hides. A couple sink in but dont seem to heal the powerful warriors. As one they draw their long curved handswords and begin to advance, Ranun charges forwards and one of the warriors rushes forwards to meet him.

The handsword sweeps up and clashes with the mace... (Ranun you need to deul with him)

The bolts of energy whip forwards and smite a couple of the warriors, and paintide ripples through them knocking them over

As one of the Dragorans charges towards me, I switch my staff to my left hand and draw my enchanted dagger.

I hear him roar, in the primal language of his people. He was chalenging me to a dule. Darath also hears the challange cast healing aura on me, knowing that I will need it in the coming battle.

I turn to the Dragoran who had challenged me, 'I accept' I say.

As he charges towards me, I cast Blaze on him, igniting him instantly. I then cast ice flare, hoping to make his now red hot armour turn brittle and smash...

(Yarnek, Eckeon) The two of you and Yarnek's brethren push the Daemons back, you look at the ground after the last of them flee only to notice that there are no bodies on the ground, your wounds are nonexistant and your Brethren's wounds have appeared to have been illusions only, whatever the daemons were they wernt real, and you are fatigued from the battle

(Noccy) Im sorry my son i have no knowlege as to this medallion

(Tallon) The fire seems to whip past him with no harm, but the ice flare slows him slightly his body seemingly wreathed in ice, his blade however is still incredibly fast, it whips past your face as you duck backwards out of its way, then he goes for a follow up uppercut

(Proto) (yes it is a her) She looks at you, most of her former aloofness returning, "After the city i began to return ehre, but after about a days travel I found the tracks of nether hounds, I began hearing their howling in the night and my horse panicked and fled, not long after I was ambushed by the orcs as I tryed to sleep. They tied me to a tree and left me there for a few days, abusing me with whips and swords, when you found me in the sack they were running fromt he Daemons too, now they will be coming here. They have to be sent back"

(If Unsucessful) I jump backwards, hoping to avoid the blade. (If I can't move back in time, I use my jewle to protect me) I cast Ice Flare, using as much power as I can. I hope to freeze him to the spot where I can attack him with my dagger.

Oh Great, I think to myself.

Me and Orac continue to combine our skills and engage the remaing monsters.

Darath continues to cast healing aura and rapid growth, aiding us in our fights.

I impale dragoran after dragoran but they seem harder to kill than they look. They can just shrug off stabs that would have killed a man instantly. Their only weakness seems to be their speed. They can be avoided by a quicker foe such as an elf.

Orac shoots enchanted arrow after enchanted arrow, some harmlessly bouncing off the Dragorans armour and some hitting warriors in weakspots, such as eyes and the back of the neck.

We continue to fight this way untill all are dead...

As they are pushed back, group mentality sets in for the dragorians, huddling together, back to back. Grinning, i reach into my pocket and withdraw a small box. Lighting the fuse i throw it underhand towards the grouped foe. Calling for my team to back away, the exploder counts down.
