bama, giant pushbroom had me lol! Most everything will have to be too big to haul away. This is the underhive after all. I was thinking an industrial table where materials could be set and worked on before being taken out onto the sump pit floor. I know I had seen some company make a 28mm table saw of radial arm saw somewhere. I'll have a look around to try and find it again. If not then scratch building I'll do. The table will also be a place to lay out the unconscious team player.
The first room I think I'll have to put one of Dave's awesome beverage dispensers , a lunch table and possibly a view screen/t.v.
Edit: had a great idea right after I posted. Wont get to it until late tonight/tomorrow am as we are leaving with the kids to got to the park, hen a church picnic tonight. I don hunk my idea fits the typical bloodbowl concept, but Bama it me thinking on a Different track.

i thought the giant broom was clever i'm glad you thought it was funny too
OH! how bout a drill press
30672
Post by: Theophony
Drill press was definitely one of the ideas I had too. Along with a bandsaw , and the body parts left over from the last time someone didn't throw the match .
I can't resist anymore. Since the field is only useable when the pit is drained and cleaned. To help clean the pit the workers can use.....
Wait for it.....
Keep waiting....

and awesome new bulkhead... the fan looks doubly sweet!
also I like the tank room... but could someone explain me the purpose of this room? are these some kind of bacta tanks or rather something that goes more down the line of soilent green?... any way... I looks splendid! I have to say it gave me some goose bumps... and I am not sweetening my talk here!

Not sure what the contents of the pumps are. Maybe some type of solvent that they use to spray down the tank. The pit might become an algae growth pit to farm algae for food. In that case it could be a fertilizer made from gangers.

Servo janitors normally are humans who are mind wiped, cyberized, and programmed for a task for until they totally collapse a long time later on, so, servo skulls getting punishment detail is hilarious!

Sorry realized the other photo didn't attach.
As for punishment, these guys were the top janitors in the imperium, so after their deaths they were immortalized as servo skulls . The continue to live and serve .
Vik, the one with the rag is dragging a can of disinfectant/window cleaner around with his tail. He is in charge of keeping the remaining windows, gauges, and lenses clean.
I need to make a sponge for the bucket carrier, or a partner to do the scrubbing and he just totes the bucket around. Also in the plans are a smaller broom and a dust pan servitor.

Okay, Lego idea aborted, thought why not use my circle cutters right after I posted. So I used the hole punchers and cut some foam core tires. I also did a little work on the body adding detail and on the tail section. Might be able to make a wire basket for the back, I'll think about that idea. Also different head used in this picture. Might have an idea for the other head.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
by the way... you need to swing the hammer to use those cutters, right?
and... is it me or was it better when sitting lower?... bigger wheels, the right decision?... ?

Yeah, I think it looks better with the smaller wheels too, just add riveted hubcaps to those wheels.

^yup... just that!
30672
Post by: Theophony
Yeah, I wasn't liking the new tires either, was thinking they needed to be larger. Old tires will go back on. What about the head, keep that one, or bring back the larger one?
I went downstairs with the intention of working on the zamboni. But you know how you see a piece and something pops into your head? Well for a lot of he wall sections I have been stealing pieces from a drop pod. Well now I have the bottom piece which has lots of detail and I'm loving the pentagon shape to it, but what to build. Well I've done. Bunch o squares and circles, how about a pentagon tower? Cutting and gluing commenced, mainly gluing my fingers, but it's better that than cutting my fingers, right? So here's the beginning of the security tower.
I will build a door on one side, and attach a hatch to the top. I figure I'll put walls around the upper part of the platform, not sure if I'll enclose it o not though. Probably not, but if I did then I could do windows all around.
Also ordered servo skulls and some other bits for builds, hopefully have them by Thursday night.

Robo-Zamboni and tower both looking good so far. What are you thinking for the sides of the tower?
48594
Post by: dsteingass
sides need rivets
30672
Post by: Theophony
It's hard to see from the photos, I know nothing new there . But I trimmed the five corners with l channel, which will get rivets down both sides. I want the tower as plain as possible, because I'd be a terrible villain, and not give the good guys any chance of a foothold for scaling the building. I see the center column as almost solid, except for the internal ladder to climb to the top. Yes ladder, because if battle ensues we don want our guards to be stuck in an elevator listening to Muzak. Thought about gun slits along the height of the tower, but once again that would make a weak spot o be exploited. Besides, if the enemy is close enough to be handled with small arms then someone has up.
Picked up a can of gray spray paint at Walmart and used it to prime the floor of the bloodbowl pitch/sump pit. I'll need to get at least two more cans to do a second coat and be able to do walls and dug outs. It's much lighter than my adeptus standard gray, which I'm glad about, makes it look even more like concrete.
Pin insert to show where squares are, replaces the black x used in bloodbowl.
I like how the pin doesn't show when standing back from the board, but up close they are visible
Waiting to pick my son up from flag football practice. Then an hour after that take his twin sister to cheer camp. Later tonight they have another vbs. at least all of it is within walking distance of our house, I'm getting exercise. That's how this week is planned out so little spots of work between Lego, Barbie, cards, and trips to the library.
48594
Post by: dsteingass
I mixed play sand into grey craft paint and rolled it on with one of those small trim rollers on my board, it gives a really hard texture that stands up to gaming without scratching. I then glued down woodland scenics vinyl grass mat on the other side of the board so I can flip it for tw different environments.

I'll have to keep that in mind for the table when I start work on it, but for the pitch I wanted the e tea cushion of the cork because your always laying models down on it and I didn't want anything to scuff them when I actually paint.
Wife gave me a few minutes of free time. So I stopped by that train shop near me...
Supply drop.
$13.92 later and I got two of the atlas train trestle, a funky light tower and a turntable for ho scale model trains that still works. Also got another tube of glue in the bag too. I'm quite proud of the hual.

Vikbot looks good.
I had a think about making a working ball and socket joint. A picture says a thousand words, see below.
Probably not going to be the best joint in the world or the easiest to make at that scale, but I would think, possible.
The hole in the socket only needs to be small enough to stop the ball passing through, the larger the hole the greater the freedom of movement.
Alternately press your chosen ball (the head of a pin as an idea for that part) into two pieces of greenstuff to make two halves of the socket. Cut a groove in the edge of each for the peg that is attached to the ball...
Neither of which will be as good as you could get from a toy though...

Come on Dave, your bringing reality into the mix when talking about a flying skull and a gun that fires five round bursts of .75" ammo which could only hold maybe ten bullets in the clip?
Well to get around it the servo skulls are "enhanced with extra suspensors to assist in helping to carry heavy weights "
I don't think there will be an actual army of them, although I have an offer for 50+ of the skulls from someone, this was just trying to branch out from the janitorial staff. The other idea might be to use these guard version skulls and desecrate some marines. I'm thinking of hollowing out the
marine armor and running guitar wire through the armor joints with the flexible sections removed to show the wiring. The story could be something close to. World with a limited marine presence is taken over by a rogue adeptus mechanicus techpriest. He kills the marines to try and keep his projects under wraps, and his servo skulls abscond with the armor and weapons to help defend him from the coming reprisal force. I kind of like the idea as I always wanted to do an iron hands army and have lots of bits hanging around for them.
@Dr. H, servo skull with thunder fire cannon? I may have to consider that.
Played around with one servo skull. May I present the first iron skull marine. An offshoot of the iron hands, the iron skulls continue with the cybernetic replacements, but continue to replace parts over time. As they continue their cybernetic e elocution they have learned an art of transferring their minds into the servo skulls that are common in the imperium. The skulls are able to attach and separate easily from the bodies which have become permanently fused with their armor. This separation allows the marine to escape even the worst battle damage and become joined to a new body allowing for greatly reduced attrition levels in the chapter.
The ships of the iron skulls are unlike any other imperial vessels. Though they house astartes troop bodies, they are unusually small. This is due to the skulls ability to remove themselves from the host body and travel the ship freely. The corridors are cramped in comparison, with many access points blocked to only allow the passageway of servo skulls.
More possibly later. Waiting on supply drops for the necromunda bloodbowl board.

Here is the first iron skull.
Unsure of color choice for this guy, as if I'm ever going to paint .

Thanks dave they are mechandrites that the iron skull uses to manipulate the armor. Lots of artwork today. Probably wont get back to the project, but I did get a supply drop today of basic servo skulls(16) have arrive. Might do a picture later, but I'm chilling right now after mowing the lawn, weeding the garden, cleaning the house, fixing five sections of fencing, doing laundry, and a partridge in a pear tree.
Hopefully I get back to terrain next week, the order I placed will improve my work considerably, and has been on hold for a while. Called the vendor and it is being pulled today, should have by weds.

Quite like that Servo-Marine.
You could paint them as if all the armour panels were collected from many different chapters...although that would be very difficult to make look good...OR do that but make it look like they were re-painted either badly or chipping off to reveal the original colour...again may just look a mess.
As they are a servo-skull janitorial army, you could do them all really really cleanly painted as if they get touched up all the time...OR do them as if they've been stripped back to the bare metal/ceramite/plasti-metal-polymer-stuff that they are made of...

There's a Dollar general within walking distance of my house. Guess where I'll be in the morning thanks for the tip Dave. Just back from the final vbs for the week for our kids and hung up my Father's Day present. The wife bought me a solid brass bell to mount outside and ring to call the kids in from playing in the neighborhood. It's about 10" tall and even a light swing on the clanger draws the neighbors out of their house.
I want to engrave papa nurgle into it, but the wife says
We had a huge bell in our yard growing up, and I has moved with my parents the last two houses. The thing is about 24" wide t the base and the envy of a few churches. You can hear it ringing over the traffic a half mile away. Lots of crazy memories with the bell. My nurgle team is even called the bell ringers, with the mordheim town cryer as the coach quite possibly the coolest metal figure ever made by GW.
@Dr. H, great ideas , maybe I'll have them wear orange jumpsuits/armor with yellow hands to simulate the rubber gloves. The iron skulls....."Cleaning up the galaxy one filthy xeno scum at a time!"

White carpet is ridiculous. I have worked in home improvement for over 17 years, selling carpet for a good amount of the time. Though most fibers won't stain, you just can't keep light colors clean, especially with pets.

Big servitors with power armor.
Dave I he led three different dollar generals. All they had were snake eyes and storm shadow. I saw the sets you picked up, almost bought my own fleet to fight yours, decided my limited budget should go to my already crazy hobby. I'll keep an eye out for them though. The packages didn't even show those guys though.
Also went to the Lego store. I was highly unimpressed. One of the staff was telling a mom to buy one of the Lego Star Wars sets because it had admiral Akbar in it. His reasoning was because Akbar was also in Star Trek. Everything they had there was the same as the local toysrus store, without the sale price. I couldn't talk myself into buying anything even though they had a promo of buy $75.00 and get a limited edition kal- el minifigure.

I think it's one of the neighbor kids. For the first time they were over last week and playing in the basement where we have the playroom and my gaming stuff. He was down there with the other boy and I had found some of zacks toys outside when I mowed the lawn last week, so I don't know if the kid got into my stuff. My kids know not to mess with my stuff unless they ask me first, and they are good about that. The other kid is younger than zack, but his sisters play with my girls so he comes along to give his mother free time with just the baby. I noticed some stuff moved, but nothing critical.
The bugs are limited to the basement in our house. It's 74 years old and was vacant for a year before we bought it. I've sprayed for the bugs frequently, and ri th house of their carcasses almost daily. They crawl in under the back door and usually only make it three feet before all the legs are face up. But I guess I found some of the rebel scum who escaped the last purging . There will be no more.

Well it is one of the few painted miniatures I had out, even only partially done. The kids only four or five, so nothing terrible or mean about it, just wanted something neat I guess, if it is even him. Could be my boy who borrowed him, or I could have misplaced him somewhere crazy.
Looking for bionic bits for the iron skulls. Love the forgeworld arms, but not paying those prices for them. Any suggestions? I've seen pics o the puppet war arms and legs, but the details were too vague.should I have guys with just mechandrite arms? Or is that a cop out?

yeah, whenever I get typing on the Ipad for some reason the turns into th or just h. I watch the pad as I type and the key for the buttons shows i'm hitting them, but if I type too fast it drops letters. the other one that gets me is when I hit the a button, a lot of times it just adds an extra space in between words and skips the a. I just hate using the desktop as I don't want to walk upstairs to type a reply. my phone is actually the best out of the three, but I just hate to view anything on it because the screen is so small.
I was thinking of making the filter a side part of the sump pit. gunk goes out into that to screen the big chunks, and to circulate the waters, then it goes to the towers.

Person who answered when I called said it had been changed last week before i ordered, but even my packing slip said otherwise. The product came in generic baggies that were stapled to regular cardstock, an obvious repack. He said he'd send me more, but was out of stock, finally said he'd give me a different sizes one and ship tomorrow. Also overcharged me $3.00 on shipping, calling it a handling fee. Told him I wanted to send it all back for a refund and was told no refund. Thinking of charging the order back.

The part of the leg rod that is sticking out on either side will be trimmed off once everything is glued together. Basically the pegs are bigger in case I go bigger. The bolter over he head I'm not sold on either, hence the question was sent out for second opinions. I think the melta gun can be magnetized easily enough to allow for swapping of it and a heavy bolter. I have the girls signed up for sculpting classes today, so will be gone in the am, have a couple o ideas floating around for the leg extensions. I have the parts to make full sentinel legs on it, but was hoping to get away with what I had done, so the parts could be used in other models. turn it upside down and you have GIANT walking machine of doom...(I have purchased it for just that use will be my entry for the new comrade panda comp...)
Viks evil tentacle octopuss of Domm. I can see the possibilities there Vik. I have a couple walkers in mind, but not sure when they'll get here, probably not until just before the contest ends. I may just fill my fast attack slots with the land speeder storms and some bikers, then I won't need jump troops. I can use the dreads as my elites and tanks/apcs for my heavies.

do share your walker ideas mate... the one thing (ok two if you add gatlings) that i can never say no to are walkers... somehow the whole idea of a walking machine of violence is verrrry intriguing for me... so spill the beans^^

Vik, I ordered two of these guys from Paulsongames.com. They are prereleases from the mechafront game he is about to kickstarter. They are for 15mm games, but are on 60mm bases and stand 65mm tall. These are the small guys. He has designs for a quad walker in his news and rumors thread as well as on his website that will be massive.

Post by: Viktor von Domm
*sighs*...^^somehow i dismissed that thread earlier on as it was only for 15mm... and i could see why it would appeal to me... no i see^^

Post by: Theophony
Yeah, I originally was just following to look at designs. He had a system for robotech worked out and models designed, even pitched it to harmony gold, but the turned him down. Shortly thereafter they tarted their own ks for miniature version of robotech. I've bought some of his other models hat he made before GW c and d him, all were top notch . There's also paper buildings for the 15mm game for drop zone commander that are inexpensive and look fabulous.

Ah, converted walkers!
30672
Post by: Theophony
Not sure how much converting will be happening to these walkers, I like the storyline in his game, and the fact that regular troops don't stand a chance against the mech.
On another front I just got another set of Munda and outlanders off ebay, shipping is crazy high, but moar bulkheads.

Stopped by dollar general today and bought a lav set. I was able to undo the screws without taking wheels off. Starting the adeptus arbites conversion on the beast.
The boxed in structure will be the access doors. The back piece by the tail will be a mounting bracket for skirting to protect the tires. I have some zinge bits inbound for this behemoth. I just can't decide if his will be a rhino, chimera, or land raider transport.

Cool, and I figured since you are gonna be in NY touring Dave, LOL!
30672
Post by: Theophony
I already started removing some of the detail work, will probably strip it completely down to the frame before I'm done. I want troop carrying in the back, would like to move the turret up more, just trying to figure out how to make it more rhino, razorback or chimera ish. It's as long as a land raider ( that's what she said), but narrower. I can't think of a way to add side sponsons to use it as a land raider. Any suggestions?
2326
Post by: shasolenzabi
too thin above the wheels for sponsons, maybe rifle ports like many APC's are prone to have.
30672
Post by: Theophony
Well, did some work before kids got up and hungry. So here's the preliminary on the lav.
Front view, not sure about the rhino visors, makes it look like Geordie laforge to me
Rear view, door not attached yet, just tacked. Will have rear bumper/ step to get into. Probably where prisoners get loaded.
Top down, like the positioning of the turret, gives room behind to have hatches/stowage, or other turret/ coms relay. The big hole is from where the turret from the tank was at, will be covered with card.
And side shot. Both sides come the same.
2326
Post by: shasolenzabi
My, the tires alone are worthy enough to be SM height!
30672
Post by: Theophony
I like the size of the tires on it as it is, but I have some coming from zinge industries already, so this might get jacked up some. Also using this for the comrades vehicle challenge, that might get me to focus on this for a bit. Heaven knows I get side tracked easily.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
now I see here a man that is even more sidetracked than me it seems
as for the tank... I think it screams chimera... no landraider ideas hit me with that shape... and go for portholes mounted lasguns!
and... what a shame to hide all that passable details with pc... but that´s just my personal opinion

Good start of the building, but I feel like something is missing.
Maybe the front could have a raised driving cockpit (on on side would look cool.
Keep at It, The material and the talent is there
30672
Post by: Theophony
Thanks everyone for the kind words.
Skalk, I'm glad your back, though it means I'll get sidetracked again quickly.
Vik, all the detail made no sense to me, the gas cans were upside down , maybe that's some sort of military thing, but I didn't like it.
Sel, did a little to dress up the front, hopefully that helps, but the only asymmetrical bit will be the gun mount as you'll see from the top.
Shaso, thanks, but afraid this won't have rivets.
Still needs contour putty at the seams and a back bumper. Might make a forward under slung turret if I can figure out something cool, otherwise it's getting a ram prow.
It's gonna have to be a rhino variant, which means it needs a storm bolter somewhere. Since the rest o the army is marine based, it wouldn't make sense to be a chimera. Don't know why I didn't think about that.
More pics.

You see?
Now You have a proper front!
forget the cockpit, It looks good like this.
And keep those wheels

Wheels are looking 30-35mm in size, Rhino variant, aha. Big enough the razor back concept weapons could work.

The top turret is set up for the razorback option.
@sel, I'm glad about the cockpit, wasn't wanting to tackle it anymore.
I'm using this for my competition tank, hoping it inspires me to keep going.

the covered up chimera stand in now looks very pleasing to the eyes

Thanks vik, best part was it was totally accidental. It just happened to fit the doors exactly. I need to create the hinge point at the bottom for realism in my little plastic world.

Probably no progress today as the wife is off and we will be doing family stuff before it gets too hot this afternoon. I also tweaked my back last night playing soccer. Beer cave bases for future dwarf team.

Also another supply drop has landed.
Less than $90.00
Missing rulebooks, but it did have all the counters, templates, 12 goliaths off sprue but new, 4 orlock one is painted.
Oh and 40 more bulkheads
Here is the progress on the tank

24297

nice haul there... the tank looks very good... you gave him a soul!
does your break from hobby mean you will be offline ? or at least stying here but without glue splattered fingers?
i hope for the latter...
but i know how it feels if the mojo gets a bit used up.... have that happen to me every now and then too...good luck... it will come to you again! talent may be dormant but never extinguished!
10972
Post by: Ruglud
You know what, I think we all have too many projects on the go and too many ideas for new ones, then we get burnt out and loose the will to build... As Vik says, it will return, hopefully soon, as I wanna see the tank build reach it's fitting conclusion
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
i never put tow and two together... but you might be on to the true aching point here... too many projects you don´t finish and you don´t get the warm feeling out of these for doing a job well done...that makes sense...so less projects and more feelings of fullfillment... sounds like a winning ticket... but i am still on the wrong train i think this will never work for me^^

Post by: shasolenzabi
I like how Theo went with the LAV knock off and made a Rhino like machine so far of it.
30672
Post by: Theophony
@ruglud, your probably right about too many projects, I need a cohesive idea of what I want to build. You guys give me too many good ideas, and I just keep running with them.
@shaso, thanks, the lav was just screaming to be more
@vik, I'll be lurking for awhile, no glue on the hands though, I need to abstain to get a fresh look at some old ideas and plan before I jump into the project.
With that being said I really like the servo skull guys, and would like to do an adeptus arbites/space Marin police force concept. I had started marines way back in he day and in the rogue trader books they had field police. I might need to get a good idea for them and reattach a marines force.
I might be commenting more, or less, just the hobby fu will slow a bit. Still looking for work in the mean time, had som leads, just not what I'm wanting, or wouldn't work for the family. I realize I've go to spend more time with the kids during the summer, and hopefully get myself in better shape while doing it.
As with everything else of mine, expect plans to change without notice .

that sounds like the best chaotic concept i could think of
and just not what I'm wanting, or wouldn't work for the family
two of the strongest reasons i was unemployed for over eight years...

I'm seriously impressed with the LAV build theo, that's not a concept I could see in that toy, but you rocked it! Inspiration will come back soon enough
30672
Post by: Theophony
While waiting for inspiration I swung by dollar general again and picked these up. I think the missiles and cannons from the lav will become turret features for the adeptus arbites fortress. Tomorrow I'm planning on priming the first lav. The competition goes on after all.
Edit: got back from taking kids to the dentist to find another supply drop, well two actually.
Anvil industries bionics. Will look through them later, right now all I can see is tons of flash.
Zinge tires and computer panels.
Their biggest wheels are a little too small for the lav. Good thing I got one of Dave's dollar jeep.
48594
Post by: dsteingass
I like those wheels though..the LAV is looking badass!
39973
Post by: Galorn
Hey dude mail me a wheel if you've got a spare...
30672
Post by: Theophony
@dave, thanks for the inspiration with your build, I will now commence with blatant theft of the idea with my own twist of course. You better get yours done quick.....who am I kidding, you've got plenty of time to beat me to the finish line
@galorn, let me see how well this conversion goes, I might have extra wheels,or if this comes out good I might need to order more, in which case ill get an extra set
Why you should never leave your vehicle unattended/ guarded in the underhive.
Here is one of the anvil legs, they all have this flash, not too bad, but needs some scrapping to get the mold line off the model. Shouldn't be too noticible once painted. The arms were perfect casts, no flash at all, or at least from first inspection.
I plan on ordering more from both guys shortly if the vehicles turn out okay.
Time for some cutting........so much for that break.
I think we should do a dollar store challenge. I know everyone wont be able to participate, but Dave's little gold mine here gave me the idea. The set was $8.00 from a national chain, I know you can order online, but not sure about international orders. How would you guys feel about something like this? We can look for a stock toy from there and everyone can get one and see who comes up with the best idea, or best execution.

Cool! That cargo part on back snaps off too
30672

Which part snaps off Dave, I unscrewed mine, but it's still molded together. Also I edited my last post with a general question, what's your thoughts?
Easy to look around the corner in a firefight when your head is detachable

More interestingly inspired stuff, make one overloaded with guns he shall be Tackleberry!
30672
Post by: Theophony
The one I got Dave was in brown plastic, went back and looked at yours and there are differences. Notably my cargo stuff doesn't come off Without a knife or saw .
But like a Potato chip, once you start you can't stop.
Second source of inspiration, other than Dave.
Where I'm at now.
Oh, and one of the sets of tires had tons of extra resin, it was planned it looks like, but now it becomes a terrain piece. No not a jersey barrier, but as the sign entering a lost production facility.
I'll have to paint it up, it's too good not to use. Also the computer console sprue I got from him has a similar pour block which looks smaller, but can go above a doorway into the building.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
er... good to see you working in hobby stuff related themes again mate!
and as for the police academy stuff... no... just say no and you will keep yourself save from any related harm...although... tackleberry... he was kinda cool... the rest... best burried by millenia
an to your general question... well... honestly... yes... but...you do know how that would kill us due to postage???...but since you are up and about... i recently hinted in my thread an idea for a comp on my terms too... creating something steampunky... if someone would be interested to go with that i would start something like that... of course with an award...
oh and while i see your scavaged jeep... i need to take soem pics of some jeeps of mine... one was an ebay haul a year back and the other was from a fleamarket... both american builds... a hummer and something else... Automatically Appended Next Post: if you make that zinge extra resin thingy into a terrain piece like you siad... zinge should give you some free bies...!!!!

Post by: shasolenzabi
Hmmm, some plasticard and greenstuff you could stretch the back to cover the dual wheel set up you made Theo
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
actually i wouldn´t go for the triple axis look...
2326
Post by: shasolenzabi
I think he already did, hence the "stretch" body work idea
30672
Post by: Theophony
Sorry vik, triple axel it is. The rear will be extended long enough to hold the battery box. The lights are random flash bulbs that I got years ago for free. I think I have ten sets. The back cab will have a turret mount for whatever weapon system I choose. This will be the necromunda version of a predator tank.
This will probably be all for tonight. Might check in with some typing, but all glued out.
30672
Post by: Theophony
Okay, so the design wasn't working out....
I liked the concept and even liked where I was going with parts of it, but the main shell just wasn't working for me. These wheels however demanded to be used so back to bits bashing/free building instead of converting on top.
Onto the trash heap. Maybe it will become terrain
The jeep was just too large of scale for my concept. Dave pulled his idea off well , me not so much. But what I learned from it has me going on a new course.
So should I do more of a crawler
I could leave off the front axel and just use the two back axels. It could also have driving spots on front and back.
Or I like this design better
It looks more Taurus like. I can armor up the rear section more and build up the height to be more of an urban assault vehicle.
What do you guys think.
62749
Post by: Dr H
Go with what feels best to you, then you're more likely to do your best work on it.
If you want a crawler do that, but think what do you want to use this vehicle for, is it going to be a slow-moving, armoured, high-sided, bullet-magnet or do you want a fast-moving, low, light, attacking truck?
If you want a fast, Taurus-like vehicle, do the last one. Also, a thought on that concept; the original looks like a single seater, will your's be? Doesn't have to be the same, but something to think about.
2326
Post by: shasolenzabi
Hmmm, all the similar issues with automaker design issues
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
i think the new design looks better... BUT i was eager to see the light effects on the earlier jeepish design too... i would just put it on the shelf of shame (mine is quite big...) for future rainy days
the new one already has lots of cool details... so is on the winning thread already^^
45857
Post by: SelvaggioSaky
I would love to see the crawler without the front axle, but the Taurus is an awesome vehicle and It would be a pity not to build one...
I follow usually what Dr. H said: Do whatever You prefer and It will be better.
(if You're looking for a vote I say no front axle tough )
30672
Post by: Theophony
@vik, my shelf of shame collapsed years ago under weight, now it is a box of shame, luckily I don't have to stare at it like the shelf.
@dr. H, "I want to go fast!" So I think more tauros like will happen with front axel. single seater, how did I miss that
@shaso, don't get me going on the auto industry I am not really for unions, leagues yes, unions no
@sel, I like the idea of a gang salvaging the remnants of one of these to be a crawler, very mad max ish. But I think I'll build this as the tauros.
Did a little work on the model, pics later. I have such a headache from doing some 1:1 scale spray painting of patio furniture, headboard, and desk for my daughters room. Forgot the high you get from spray painting. And I wasn't even trying, it's just Indy enough to throw it all back into your face.
45857
Post by: SelvaggioSaky
if You choose that, just go for It, Taurus style vehicle is going to happen also for my Orkz one day, I just love that model

@shaso, roll bars are like safety rails in the underhive.
@sel, it really is one of there better designs.

I will probably be doing tubular rollbars if I can figure it out.

Sorry, not too much of an update.
The tauros is sitting waiting for inspiration to strike again. I did replace the undercarriage with just plastic card and square stock. If I make more of these then it will be much easier to replicate.
The lav is primed and I picked up a bottle of matte black. Not sure how that will look, but might be neat compared to regular old chaos black.
Also you can see more of Galorn's brew cave bases showed up with some tech base friends .
I have some packets to go out today, hopefully will see my servo skulls from Australia arriving sometime soonish.
Really need to get my hobby space cleared up today/tomorrow, I have been pushing that off for far too long, I think the ith in the background will get bulldozed, if only to give myself reason to rebuild it later .

yes! the LAV looks the part no all primed even!
and for me a non tidy workspace always is bearable for so long... then, when everything is too cluttered... my hobby motivation gets subzero... and i have to really kick me to get everything cleaned... but once that is acomplished the hobby mojo flows again...good to see some peeps are all the same as me^^

@dave, thanks
Nothing major again, except it involves paint which with me is a major undertaking.
I present
The zinge industries necromunda terrain piece and the base coat on the adeptus arbites command vehicle.
Indeed to get the airbrush out so I can get behind the wheels, and tight areas. I have to wait for this coat to dry and see if the primer I had was bad, it's the same as I used on the tower, and it caused creaking. I've waited for the humidity to steady itself, but the tank is already showing cracks. This is why I never primed my marines.

@comrade, I know, I feel bad about not hitting all the threads every day. But I appreciate you stoping by and I will keep the competition thread updated with my progress.
@ vik, the adeptus need no camouflage as they will unleash the righteous fury of the emperor on every jaywalker they see. Don't worry additional bits will be added, but since I was brushing the paint on I wanted big open areas. Plus it will receive unit writing on it. And. Can't take any credit for the sign, just threw some paint on it.

That's just slightly closer to my look than Viks picture. At least closer n size.
Today was the last day of summer school for my wife being principal. We are sitting at subway (food place, not cool underground) waiting for the kids soccer practice to start soon. I better stretch out more than last week, I want to be able to move tomorrow.

what will your wife do from now on then?

My back is oing good, we will see in the morning if its still good.
Subway is okay, better than a chain we had around here called mr. Goodcents. Their dough was just gooey, but I think they are out of business now.
The wife will have the next week completely off, a mini vacation the week after and up till school starts in the fall my wife if the varsity cheer leading coach for her school, so will have practices on Tuesday and Thursdays. We have lots of parks and mini trips planned around he city with pool visits o keep us cool.

Had little dreams of servo skulls flying fighter jets....not really, but Dr. H, can have servo skulls driving grav tanks o .
With my dollar store lav came fighter jets, one in each package so I have a wing waiting to do something. But as Dave pointed out previously they are. Terrible size.
The pilots are so small, how do we fix it?
Servo skulls of course , see I did have an idea.
More work obviously will need to be done, but. Think they can become landspeeders.
There's screws in the undersides holding them together at he natural weapons load out spots, so magnetic weapon swaps are a go.
Also the clear canopies pop on and off easily, so I could paint the skulls then put them behind glass/plastic. Although having them without the canopies might be fun too. Just think of h torment the little servo skulls would have from flying around remembering what it was like to have the wind rush through their hair . Not to mention the janitorial staff having to clean the bugs off of the pilots later

Who needs arms and legs if you can just wire the controls directly into the brain...
At least the Harriers have a hover mode, might have to do something about the F16 though while 40k-ing them up a bit.

That is an excellent assault vehicle you have going there. Where did you score those wheels? I am building a vehicle for my Arbites but the wheels I have are too small. All those bits and no wheels. Not sure how that happened.
Great work all around. Still trying to spend more time here. I'm off most of the weekend so there's going to be some serious modeling / Dakka time.

i´ll cross my finger for you and the family to have lots of fun together... the family (any family) needs these times to recharge the batteries the every day live drains...
as for the jets... hmmm... if all fails make giant parachute drop troops or hack them up a treat and make some weird kind of drop pod of them?

@skalk, they are from zinge industries, saw Dave use them, they com in multiple sizes, I used the largest 23mm. They also have separate hubs that fit them nicely.
@shaso, that's gonna be the hard part 40kifying these puppies. They are so small, and the details will just disappear.
@Vik, had a rough day with he family, drove an hour for an outing just to get there and find out they were maxed out. we drove home and now have a babysitter for the night. Tickets to a dinner show at. Fancy restaurant, should be fun. The twins have thei last soccer game tomorrow at noon, then our Thursday nights and weekends are freed up.
We're also looking forward to fair saint Louis next weekend and my b-day next Friday. I turn 39 for the first time, or is it just a woman thing where they keep repeating it?

I'm not really fond of those "normal" planes actually.
I would use them for bits probably, like the wings would work on your flying vehicles?

@sel, yeah I'm having trouble trying to fit them in.
Okay so the diner show is a burlesque show, we're In a break, but I got pulled from the audience up onto the stage in the second act.

LOL! caught into the show eh?

Post by: Theophony
@shaso, yep. My wife and. We're the only two "virgins" of the burlesque show that raised our hands. I would have preferred one of the other dancers to be the one to take me up on stage, but it was a good time either way . It was fun, and. Had the first two alcoholic beverages I've had in the past three years. That Brazilian rum is fantastic, think they call it cachaca. It's distiller from sugar cane, so it counted as desert for me too.
Where I started off this morning.
Top down
Any suggestions?

@galorn, I was planning on being lower to he ground, but I like the look of that, thanks.
Here's where I'm at, leaving for soccer in a little bit, watching taladega nights while I was working on this , pilot will have to be Ricky bobby .
Last picture shows with turret swivel base. Think I'll keep it really low profile.
The pilot compartment needs to be boxed in more, and something needs to go up front in front of the driver. Maybe a blast shield, Los looking for engine bits.

I meant to comment on this earlier but got distracted with F1 and carving sprue... It's looking good Theo. I like the mud-guards and step bits and low profile is the way to go. Building some kind of engine, if only the visible bits (like intakes and what-have-you) would be good. and remember that it doesn't have to be an internal combustion engine, it could be a jet engine if you really want it to go fast... (although where the exhaust goes I'm not sure). Internal combustion would be simply a few cubes and wires really, covered with a bonnet who'd know the difference. Edited to actually finish some sentences that I failed to do so first time round...

Thanks dr. H. I tried a few engine ideas, finally decided that the rear compartment could hide the engine components and exhaust system.
Here's my current build progress.
More detailing to come

Thanks, with all the family stuff yesterday, finally got the grill out , forgot to post this supply drop.
Hard to tell, but that's 52 more servo skulls , now just need ideas for all of them .

Your talking to a guy that was building a complete marine chapter including vehicles and what not
@selvaggiosaky, thanks, getting to a point where I'll be happy to start throwing paint at it.
Still thinking about boxing in the driver again. There just aren't any good attachment points for a rollcage. I also like the idea if the officer being out in the open, hoping little fear of his enemies.

1k Marines and vehicles? I have about just say 100 marines and some vehicles so a company is what I stopped with
30672
Post by: Theophony
Yeah I've stopped now also. 6-7 companies built, including 1st company. Not painted by a long shot, but I have enough shoulder pads to cover more than the whole chapter. I just won't toss that much more to GW anymore.

I picked up Some of their bionic legs and arms.
I was a GW purist, now their more recent releases I detest. Blood angels, chaos obliterators, even the hell brute I don't particularly like. I can see where they were going, but the execution is childish. I know the theories of them shooting for a younger market, but I'm one of the old guard that got dumped in the process.
Saw some more mantic, and still not impressed enough to go with them.
Guess I'm in that place where you just model for fun , and to get away from the kids from time to time.

Yeah making Chaos Saturday morning cartoon villains is wrong of them
30672
Post by: Theophony
If they were decent Saturday morning cartoon villains then fine, but these are reject comic book artist drunk sketches that are half done. Even Eastman and laird made better looking villains for the ninja turtles when they were high. Most of he new stuff is cut and paste, how difficult would it be to make crisp details? Mark at dreamforge has done it a few times, and no offense to him, but he is small fish compared to bloated whale of GW. Bu I guess you have to be better if your the little guy, he big guys can just keep rolling out.
Edit: Kids went to sleep, so I got to do some work. Used the anvil legs and arms I ordered. These are the first two of a small group I'll try, they are on rivetzone.com bases I got from Galorn . Tell me what you think so far.
Always wanted to do iron hands, my idea of iron skulls may work in here also, or I could go traitor with iron warriors. The last idea would be military police. Basically any marines too seriously injured for frontline duty, but still functional get bionics and returned to a world that is in need of extra security. I'll think of more fluff in th am when I'm awake.

I think the build has evolved past the Tauros now, tubular frame wouldn't look right now anyways, unless it's square tube?

Post by: Theophony
Thanks Dave, I don't think it's going to get any kind of rollcage now. I think it's low enough to the ground where flip over is no longer a worry, although I could be the Isuzu sidekick of its day . I'll just say I has extra suspensors to keep it stable and a displacement field that gives it it's armor value and protection , this will function as a razorback in a marine build.
Here's a picture of it with the enforcement droids (you now have ten seconds to reply)
And the convoy heads out
