LoL, well thanks to a timely birthday and my wife's insistance that she NEEDS that 5 headed dragon I'm in for 400- and will probably go higher by the end. This is an awesome ride.
Paint A: I haven't found a good answer. Paints look good for advanced techniques, or if you don't have any premade washes.
Paint B: Very solid set if you don't already have the colors. I find it useful to have two shades or a triad of each color. I prefer the Tanned Skin triad to Rosy Skin. I only use Rosy Skin for females inside towers and elves.
The Graveyard and Mythos expansions have just made all my future Call of Cthulhu campaigns easier to run... and I won't lie... even as a designer on Strange Aeons, i'll probably be playing it with the Bones stuff as the value is probably triple or more what Uncle Mike can offer.
I think I saw that the body and tails are each 120mm on the Dagon but it's curled.. so that would be about 9.5" curled? I think DnD minis use 7" bases for Colossal sized figures (IIRC) so it seems about right if that's the size they're supposed to be.
Dagon is pretty fething dope! I'll be annoyed if we don't reach him because they threw in dragon #427 in an earlier slot. If we reach him, he's going on the Deep Wars shelf.
I'm also surprised we havent seen things like flaming/ice weapons in clear bonesium. The weapon packs are neat enoguh, but pretty mundane to high level fantasy weapons.

Thanks, trying to buy some paints to build my stock up and noticed how cheap they are currently, currently just have the two sets from bones two and i have about $200 worth of figures to paint from that kickstarter still.
Bossk_Hogg wrote: 3rd edition D&D uses 1" for medium, 2" for large, 3" for huge, 4" for gargantuan and 5"+ for colossal.
Ah.. for some reason I thought the Colossal Red came on a 7 square by 7 square base..
Anything 5" and over is colossal, there's no upper limit on that size category. The colossal red from WOTC was actually on an 8" x 8" base. I just measured mine, and in the process found my lost tiny pin vise behind it! So thanks for helping me find that sucker, I'd been tearing up my office for a few days trying to find it lol.
I am looking at save and buy for a good while yet. I cant currently afford this and I feel I hav pledged for a debt. I put down $100 and my bank can handle that of course, but shipping and tax is all ahead, compounded by the fact that I want may more than $100. I am counting on having the time to refresh my gaming budget, possibly multiple times before the pledge payment deadline ends. When all is said and done all as a fair estimate all this will be costing me the dollar price in pounds.
For someone who runs a zero float hobby balance .i.e if I dont have the cash in my gaming budget I dont buy, no matter the deal. This is getting into unknown waters.
Bills and general living expenses have to come first unfortunately.
There's a wave 2 shipping available now, I just dropped my pledge. Really not feeling the base level this time around, just gonna wait for retail and pick up the stuff I want. Actually I dropped to a $1 pledge so I can go back with the manager if I decide to, but I figured I'd clear up the wave 2 for somebody else that'll want it more

Any chance the SA guys can work with RAFM, Green Eye Games, and/or Reaper with SA? Frex, you could contact Reaper and ask them if you can design a SA scenario around their Mythos expansion. Give it away with free quickstart rules or something.
Gotta say, this one didn't do much for me. There wasn't much in the Core set that really appealed to me. Bones 2 had A LOT more stuff I was interested in. It felt like it had better variety, too. I'm also pretty disappointed at the lack of sci-fi on this one. Both previous Kickstarters had quite a bit peppered throughout, but this one only really seems to have had three, the Black Corsairs, the Sledgehammer (which could be argued isn't actually sci-fi at all), and the mouselings. I guess we won't be getting that IMEF Bulldog in Bones. Why bother teasing it if you weren't going to include it?

Mebbe it was one of those SG's or expansions that the campaign didn't get near enough.
I think Reaper plays it safe. Too safe. They started with the roleplaying market (they actually first released Scrye life counters for Magic but thought they should seek other markets), and they've branched out into roleplaying, whch meant D&D, which meant Not-sf. GW (and now Mantic) has shown us there *is* a market for sf miniatures, but not a sf roleplaying market. Reaper has decided not to enter the vertical "give away the rules, sell the miniatures" model that GW and Mantic have. If you look at the Reaper forums, it's all about painting. Reaper has chosen to outsource CAV and license the same engine as Warlord. The prepainted Legendary Encounters has only *one* thread. Still reverse engineering here, but I think that's why you see some models which show their generic fantasy roots, but are unplayable from an RPG standpoint. Reaper does dabble, and its staff members will include miniatures *they* want. It had a sf set, some Mythos, and the Victoria BFG, but these are only a few figures out of the many a hardcore collector would want. We've already seen posts that the Reaper Mythos expansion didn't have enough monsters.
Is this a good model? Well, Bones III didn't fund as well as Bones I and Bones II. I think this is in part because of its focus on the American market, but also because it stuck to a scope smaller than other companies. Had Reaper risked entering the miniature wargames market and had international distribution, it could have been Mantic. Had Reaper risked making boardgame market and sold miniature-laden boardgames, it could have become CMON. We'll see how long Reaper will last.
We'll see how long Reaper will last?
Well, they were founded in 1992... so I think the answer is.. a while..
I didn't like the low volume of sci-fi and the fact that they shied away from a 4th expansion. I also would have liked to see more focus on terrain and Warlord, which they claimed there would be. However, I don't think I could say they've made any fatal errors so much as going a different direction than I would've liked.
That said.. they took this long to get into the plastic miniatures business that Wizkids, WotC, and many others have been into for quite a while.. a lot of people hail that as revolutionary but I think they're just a bit late to the party. They are bringing new excitement into the world of roleplaying though and making it more accessible in a lot of areas. I don't think they're going anywhere anytime soon.
I don't think Reaper aspires to be Mantic. Mantic's focus is on big armies, fast- they're a good enough company. Reaper puts a tremendous amount of love into its idiosyncratic, niche miniatures. They'll make the finest coral golem you've ever seen, and put mice in space marine armor like nobody's business.
Like all miniature companies, they will have bad sculpts- but I don't think any sane person could call Reaper derivative or a knock off company. Mantic is starting to emerge from that, but for now they're still pretty much not-GW.

Not knockoff for sure but they do hang a pretty hefty hat on that DnD IP. Not knocking it by a longshot but I gotta call that spade a spade. They work with Paizo pretty often from my understanding so it's implicit from that partnership but things like Froghemoth, Tiamat, Terrasque, etc are more or less D&D creations (afaik).
This ended pretty much where I figured. I did think for a while that they would climb just over 3 million but closer to the middle the 2.7-2.9 range was starting to look more realistic. It was definitely interesting to watch it unfold.

Give that Pathfinder pretty much IS D&D.... duh?
Perhaps you missed where I was pointing to specific IP things where Paizo has no claim. That's what my comment was geared towards, not the familiarity between the two systems.

Be that as it may.. Paizo holds rights to that, not Reaper. They made a really big deal about it not being able to be a 1 for 1 translation. I'm not exactly sure why you've decided to take such a contrarian stance but it's kinda rude.
Actually, if anyone holds rights to it (Froghemoth, as the Tarrasque is a real mythological creature) it would probably be Frog God as it was a Gygax original. They published it under the OGL so its pretty much public domain.
Laughing Man wrote: Actually, if anyone holds rights to it (Froghemoth, as the Tarrasque is a real mythological creature) it would probably be Frog God as it was a Gygax original. They published it under the OGL so its pretty much public domain.
I'm pretty sure early on when people were asking for Froghemoth, Bryan mentioned that they were talking to Paizo but he didn't think they'd get it ironed out (using their visual interpretation) in time. The Terrasque thing was from Bones 2 and right on the heels of that kickstarter getting shut down by WotC where they were trying to make a terrasque miniature for gamers. Perhaps Reaper is being overly cautious perhaps not.. I am just telling you what I've observed. Remember, this is a company that doesn't even feel like they're allowed to put existing merchandise into Kickstarter as a stand-alone pledge reward.
As to them doing stuff like what we're talking about or any other major mythical deity.. I'm glad they're able to do what they're doing. In the instance of the 5 headed dragon.. eh.. they're being careful about that one as it does not match up to anything I found showing Tiamat or Takhisis in any pictures in a google search.. Of course the base similarities are there but Reaper named it differently, styled it differently, and has made no indication of what the colors should be so they're probably safe in that regard while still giving us what we want. Things like the Aboleth, Otyugh, Rust Monster, Beholder, etc.. well.. they are mighty good at tap-dancing around that line. Again.. I am a gamer and if they didn't do that stuff, we would be stuck with oop lead, horrible pre-paints (some not all), or really expensive kits from Otherworld, GF9, etc.
Gitzbitah wrote: Mantic is starting to emerge from that, but for now they're still pretty much not-GW.
Yep. I'm wondering if sf mini's sell, or sf mini's that match a house style sell. That is, if I have space marines, I'm going to want them to match the GW style. I don't want half of my chapter buying their armor from Fred's armory shop, and the other from Joe's. I'd expect them to have a uniform look. OTOH, If Reaper put out some Ork Freebooters, I think they'd come up with some terrific sculpts even non-GW players would buy! With Mantic putting out their own game system, they can transition from not-GW to Mantic, gradually changing the sculpts away from GW to their own system. But Reaper wouldn't be able to do that, since they don't have their own game system that they're supporting. (They're not really supporting Warlord.)
But, considering how much I dropped on this KS (and pledged for the current TerraTiles KS), I'm perfectly fine if they do this sometime in the not near future!
Biggest head scratcher I came away with was there were a lot of sculpts shown off at Reapercon that never made it in. From those photos I had assumed they were going to be in Bones- after all, a lot of the stuff shown then did end up in the material.
Off the top of my head we saw sculpts for, but never got-
- The pumpkin cart.
- Chibi classic monsters
- The IMEF Bulldog
I guess they'll be in the inevitable Bones 4? Or maybe we'll start to see new Bones releases trickle out over the year? Who knows.
There was some neat stuff at the very end, but I don't get why they didn't show that stuff off during the course of the campaign. Reaper really seems to play it safe.

I think the problem is, that for so long GW were more or less it for sci-fi miniatures outside of model kits for Star Wars and similar.
Now we have stuff like MERCS, Infinity, Warmachine, Deadzone/Warpath, a whole slew of 15mm sci-fi games, Dust, and Anvil Industries has a new one coming out. Then a few sci-fi board games that will likely develop into skirmish games like HINT and a few others (would have to dig but there's some neat looking ones out there.. just can't keep them all straight). Anyway, my point is, just from tabletop we're looking at a ton of different games with different visual styles. We're seeing pretty consistently from sci-fi focused kickstarters and conversion lines like PuppetWars, Kromlech, Maxmini, Scibor, Titan-Forge, etc.. that yeah.. there's a line for not-GW and we still don't know where the end for that is..but in the meantime most of these companies are slipping their own thing in there and it's actually working out pretty well.
So.. the point of this bit, is that there is plenty of room in tabletop gaming for Reaper to bring in a line.
Tabletop isn't where it ends though and a lot of the Reaper people are RPers. In my mind, this means that they tend to think in things from this perspective.
I admittedly don't know that many sci-fi RPGs. Shadowrun immediately jumps to the front of the list and it's obviously one of the more popular but Cyberpunk is it's distant cousin. There's also RPGs for Star Wars and Star Trek, Men In Black, Champions (superheroes) and a bunch of modern horror stuff from White Wolf. Most of this stuff I have experience with so I'll avoid googling more and get to my point. Between these games you could very easily throw down some things that are generic enough to work in many settings. The approach of taking a fantasy character and adding gadgets and a ray gun would also work if we're being completely honest. Their troll with a mini-gun is fantastic and they have elves with guns and frankly, sticking to that kind of thing would be enough to satisfy a few of us at the very least.
Here's something that they could easily do that would work for both sectors and not even be outside of their wheelhouse.
Sci-fi lab. They already have consoles, just make some that are wider. Specimen jars with weird little alien, demon, monster baby things similar to the brain in a jar from Bones 3. Supervisor, technicians, a doctor with a mix of some just working, some terrified, some injured or dead. A team of mercenaries that are like shadowrunners (they already have tons of these), a couple of cyber succubuses, a big failed experiment for an enhanced person (very similar to the flesh golem in expansion 1 even), maybe some security robots, some corrupt private security, some armed EMTs (docwagon), an old dragon that has turned to technology to live out his final century and his heavily armored troll bodyguard with a heavy machine gun or grenade launcher or something.
Most of that stuff is extremely similar in nature to things they've already done or based on models they already have.
Tabletop players can use various parts of this for either objectives, scenery, or actual units to fill in their armies.
RPers would be able to build a scenario around most of this if not all. There's flexibility for different things.. throw in something generic like street thugs and it's an easy day. They already got at least one of the Hasslefree guys to do a sculpt for this past Kickstarter and HF is awesome at sci-fi.. This really doesn't make sense to me.
Reaper says they don't do Sci-Fi because it doesn't sell. Mantic does sci-fi and did well with DZ and Dreadball.. The Shadowrun games by HBS have both done really well and Games Workshop seems to have the exact opposite view to Reapers with their fantasy range floundering. Zombicide has done amazingly well. Infinity is kicking ass and it hasn't turned to Kickstarter AFAIK.. it does however have an RPG in the works.
This turned into a rant. For that I apologize. This whole issue has been frustrating for me and the silly way that it's being handled defies logic. I'll leave it at this and hope that Reaper has a change of heart towards Sci-Fi.
Well - while wanting the Mythos stuff for Arkham, and a Dragon for Conan..I think the Dagon fig might fit the bill perfectly for both! (The other Dragons are very 'D&D' otherwise...)
highlord tamburlaine wrote: There was some neat stuff at the very end, but I don't get why they didn't show that stuff off during the course of the campaign. Reaper really seems to play it safe.
Reaper's run by accountants, so safe's probably fair enough. During the campaign, they used the Pledge Calculator to see the most in-demand add-ons, and have data from prior KS. Plus, staff members and the owner get to (ahem) play favorites with what pieces make the KS. Towards the end, Reaper threw in add-on after add-on which would normally only be unlocked at higher funding levels.
EDIT: OT, but if for those who wanted sf and didn't throw all their money at Reaper Miniature Market has a Daily Deal: Battlezones: 20th Century Brick - Town Centre : $55. MSRP: $100. Accessories are modern-day, so use 'em for Zombicide or something...
Which to be fair, is entirely their prerogative - the last time I checked, joining a kIckstarter didn't make you an automatic shareholder, so complaining about what minis they did or didn't include in the KS is tbh just entitlement issues -you can ask (politely) but don't whine - their company -their rules - and you can always buy or not - that's your choice.
The Undying Lords were an absolute highlight. I can't wait to use the Graveyard expansion- imagine the awesome moment when you replace the tomb with the skeleton king kool aid manning out of it! The walls themselves will shudder with an eerie OHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHH!
My crypt will probably be wholly built as a diorama/Oversized dungeon tile for maybe a ravenloft one shot. I really wanted to get bones 2, but missed out.
highlord tamburlaine wrote: Biggest head scratcher I came away with was there were a lot of sculpts shown off at Reapercon that never made it in.
Didn't someone just post a page ago that they had claimed to have SG's lined up to like 5 million or something massive like that?
Just means they have plenty left over for the next campaign, and it' was nice of them to have a couple of things added in over time and spontaneously to sweeten the deal in those last few hours.
Considering they've now shaved 2 weeks off their funding time and are still pulling in massive piles of cash (even with the exchange rate going to gak for a lot of people), I'd say it was a win all around.
And yeah, Bones 4. As long as they keep getting multi-million dollar loans with zero interest, I can't see any reason to stop this money train.

Not... exactly....
The IP for Tome of Horrors is more complex than that for most OGC - the rights are still held by WotC, and Frog God/Necromancer got a special license for using that IP in Tome of Horrors.
BUT... people can use that content, but have to have a separate entry in their OGL license that specifically pertains to the content from Tome of Horrors. (Take a look at the license in the Pathfinder Bestiaries - it will list each of the critters that WotC allowed Frog God/Necromancer separately from the rest of the critters, and cite both WotC and Frog God.
A bit of a legal chimera - but it was a compromise that mostly gave both parties what they wanted.
I love the OGL, and the silly gymnastics that go with it. I have used the list of material cited in OGL material as a shopping list.
The Auld Grump - not having a functional OGL was one of the nails in the coffin for 4th edition.
Now its a case of working out what we want to buy.
I only like half of what I see here. The core is fairly weak but it does have enough interest to be worth the pricetag.
Base Set - There are some reall turkeys here 114 abnd 121, yuck.
But there are enough generic adventurers especially : 104, 111, 112, 118 and 127 which in my opinion are better than the overdecorated ones. A mule is always welcome addition and a dog with one head.
Bonus figures - Weaker than previous but useful. Lizardmen, ok, not my top choice but a suseful role play monster box well ticked. i will need to convert one or two to shamen and tribal leaders etc.
Savage Worlds - Nice, but I dont hasve a use for them personally. If I wanted in I would go in in a big way.
Orcs - Now we are talking, nice set. Sadly I use GW orcs for consistency, as I have a crapton of them including an O&G army to pilfer for minis.
Chill Out - God why?
Heroes 1 & 2 - Good sculpts, ok they are in.
Goblins - Nice gobbos but unless I want a specific D&D set I have this covered.
Torture chamber - Will nicely round out the torture devices coming with Heroquest 25th.
Lycanthropes 1 & 2 - Half of these are gold half are poo.
Ogres - I like the ogres set here, and will get the add on for an ogre contingent for RPGs.
Invisible Heroes - Will reserve judgement, sadly they are baed on scuklpts from earlier Bones, I will need to buy the opaque minis for best effect.
Arsenal, Armoury of Virtue etc - lorts of overdecorated wargear, good for special characters. I like overdecorated shields when they are used sparingly, the big bad has one and everyone else has a plain shield. All too frequently everyone gets a freaky shield.
Townsfolk - Yes please. Good for camp followers. I like to add basic logistics in my games and tie my adventuring party to a forward basecamp. Top me doing most adventures is like climbing Everest the adventuring heroes make the assault, but they have a support team not far behind.
Pathfinder 1 and 2 - Not impressed. Somhow adding Pathfinder as a prefix makes the miniatures representation suck somehow. I dont dig Pathfinders artistic style.
Eastern Legends - Pointless, if you want to go east you need enough to do so. Some samurai some ninja some peasants and various kami. Just making the odd minster isnt enough.
Wild West Oz - Doubly pointless, 225 and 227 might be workable, perhaps with minir conversion.
Hobgobageddon - Nice stuff.
Dwarves - Generic stunties. Thumbs up.
Mr & Mrs Bones - Moving on, not impressed,
Pretty deadly - some nice stuff here.
and Sophie. Too specific a pose for generic use, but I like her.
I will be buying:
Frost Giants, Frost Giant Kimng and Queen, Fire Giant Jailer - It comes together as a set. Note that the jailer has frost giant attire and is evidently an employee.
Maryrangul - The best posed dragon here.
Ogre Command - To go with the other gores, it makes a nice set of five. The goblins I will likely use seperately but are also wants.
Goremaw the Devourer - I get to pain something purple.
Ma'al Drakar the reminiscent of but legally distinct from Tiamat - This will be a pain on shipping and will disrupt my careful budget planning, but one look and I knew I had to have this. I am feeling all kinds of stupid right now, but if I have to drop something else to add this model so be it. I don't have a use for her, probably wont ever get around to painting her if I am brutally honest, but that doesn't matter.
Things I will likely to be buying:
Mystic Circle - A good terrain piece methinks, could make my own in all likelihood.
Kyra and Lavarath - I once bought the metal model, it never arrived. Main reason for a second go. This was a nice dragon in its day but has been eclipsed.
Things I might be buying:
Crusaders - They are growing on me, generic temple guard for D&D battles, box ticked. I think I just convinced myself, d'oh.
Undying Lords - They have character all over them. Definitely there as story driven opponents.
Sledgehammer - Not use about this, love the gun, love the crew. Does it really fit in my guard army, no, sadly not. But if I dont buy I might regret not having it. The tracked variant looks interesting this gun looks like it should run on rails.
Mthical Monsters - I really do want generic monsters, sophinx and manticore would be good. I have seen better manticore sculpts though abnd the sphinx can therefore wait for retail.
Solar - Really not sure, the earlier Deva model can work as well, and in my opinion looks better for the task. Has that Lord of the Upper planes been suddenly summoned while on his way to a fancy dress party going as a barbarian?
Air Elementals - Think this is low on content frankly, but would be useful if they get it right. I might buy the large elemental seperately, but that will liekly cost as much so...
Wont be caught dead with:
Mouslings.
The Stonskull expansion is a mix of turds and diamonds.
The Behir 301 leads the wow list, the tree man 304 has promise depending on scale and a generic succubus 305 will be useful. 314, 316, the kobolds and plants 317-325 are all useful add ons. i could do with a naga 330 and an Iron golem 334. While not top sculpts the four bandiots 326-329 could prove handy as generic mooks, so they will be gratefully received.
As for the rest, there are some seriously crap waste of time miniatures in this set. So much so it was difficult to agree to buy. 306-309, what tghe hell are those? Just get them out of my dungeon. missed the bear 303, its ok and would sdo better as a werebear than the partly clothed and armed one in the core set. but then 310 and 315.. WTF?? No thanks.
Ok I will buy this, the succubus and two dragons made the deal, the deadly plants and kobolds helped sweeten it and make it worth $50.
Mythos beasties make for good dioramas. Cthulhu is a must buy sculpt but on the same caveats as Tiamat, only more so. You wont ever really need it. Shub-Niggurath, Dagon, waste of time placing them on the tabletop. To buy them is to love them for themselves, as dust magnets for your shelving. It is tempting.
As for the main Cthulhu set. I must say I rather like it. In fact I think the composition is excellent. The Dark Young is as nice centrepiece, and a survivable large mythos beast as if one is summoned it normally remains in place and doesn't chase down Investigators.
The cultists and alter bing the real focus of attention. In CoC you ignore the beasties and fight the cultists. and this set provides cultists.
Deep Ones and Mi-Go are exceptions as trained investigators can with decent combat skills and at the cost of their remaining sanity actually defeat these monsters, and they are not pointless as a combat opponent. The gug is the only weakpoint of the set. For a start its mouth is wrong and second its only found on the Dreamlands, and the dreamlands needs a set all to itself. A ghoul would have been better. You can also hope to defeat a ghoul.
The two shrines are good focal centrepoints for midway through an Investigation, on the run up to the big reveal.
Next comes investigators and those they traffic with. this is a good generic set, with a mix of Victorian and 20's-30's miniatures with the earlier stuff useable in the latter era. By making some use of some of the SDavage worlds freebies there is enough to go by.
This is indeed tempting, but I don't play Call of Cthulhu. So I will not in all likelihood buy. But if I did I would.
This all fits together so yes, or no?
Hell yes. This set is awesome. like the monsters, or two exceptions, Love the terrain. I am in.
Not too sure on the three pumpkinhead models or 398 which is too static as a mourner and unusable as a statue. I am thinking of using 398 as a ghost for some variety and useage. While some people do collpase at gravesides and not move, its better if its a ghost doing that methinks.
I do hopwe 393 is niot firmly attached to its sarcophagus. That makes an awesome lich king or wight miniature.
Good rundown! I like to think 394 is the angry, awakened from of 398. The whole expansion seems like a lesson in 'Don't touch'.
I think of 315 as the lizardmen's vengeful, likely cannibalistic deity. They seem like a culture that would be ok with worshipping an oversized monster that eats them when they're caught, and tries to trap travelers to satisfy it.
I think they put a tape measure down by Ma'aldrakar and it was more like 12" tall but that's still pretty enormous for a miniature. Plus it's closer to taking up a 12" cube, not just that tall.
So reading the above post about the fire giant matching the frost giants... do we have consensus? If I can paint them the same and get away with it.. may as well have 5 giants.
Thwe King and queen are just male and female giants, they dont look like Giant royalty, arent any bigger or flasher.
Three male giants, one of which is a leader, one female priestess and the jailer, which I might convert a tad to make him more generic thanks to the extra armament choices of the king.
They will need to be rused a fair bit but five giants at a time is sufficient for a medium-high level party to face. I looked at the possibility of getting two more regular giants, but I think its unnecessary to go that far.
I wont 'ice' them up so they will remain regular giants, with careful colour choices I could use them as hill, fire and frost giants, which are the only ones generally fought en masse.
Yeah, there are totally reasons to have five giants.. and thanks alot for spending the extra 6 bucks for me guys Sounds like a plan though.
I think it would be fun to pit a party of lower leveled adventurers against the giants but with both surprise and an initial terrain advantage. The party would be scouting for a local town/village and then discover the giant troupe. What do they do, go back and report and then try to help the townsfolk fight the giants, or try to evacuate them before the giants arrive? In a frontal assault they'd be lucky to kill a single giant let alone five. Force them to think outside the box and make traps, avalanches etc, or to make the hard/cowardly choice to save themselves (likely having consequences later..muahaha).
lord_blackfang wrote: But what will you do with 5 giants? Play out some sort of giant genocide?
I have all the Bones giants released from Bones 1, and plan to buy most from Bones 2 and Bones 3 so that I can use them as a few pantheons of gods. They will war with each other, then the demons, and eventually the Lovecraftian big guys. It will be glorious.
lord_blackfang wrote: But what will you do with 5 giants? Play out some sort of giant genocide?
Raid a Giant's lair of course.
We had a D&D adventure where our characters devestated an entire fire giant settlement to steal a magical sword, only to have it taken away from us by a Storm Giant the next adventure.
lord_blackfang wrote: But what will you do with 5 giants? Play out some sort of giant genocide?
BWahaha.. 5?
I have the Pathfinder Frost Giant, Heroclix Frost Giant, and DnD Miniatures Frost Giant.. plus these. I might end up getting the Heroscape Frost Giant and OOP Paizo Frost Giant as well. Why?
My heroes are going to have to help frost giants reclaim their treasure from a dragon. Afterwards, the surviving frost giants are going to turn on the heroes. Shhhh.. don't tell them that.
The fire giants are going to be a different story. A lot of that adventure is going to be about sneaking past the giants and using subterfuge, poison, and other deviousness. Completely different adventures.
I blame DDO. Sooo many adventures where you drop giants by the dozens. I really like having the option to use them heavily, especially in higher level gaming. Granted, lower level adventures might only see an occasional hill giant or whatever, but once heroes get to a certain point, giants become the equivalent of orcs at lower levels.
I believe the module someone was mentioning earlier was called Against the Giants. Either way.. you can always find a way if you're willing
- Savage Worlds Heroes (Shadows of Brimstone alternate figures).
- Torture Chamber (always love terrain bits)
- 1 of each specialty weapon pack (Vice, Virtue, Grave)
- and some Sophie/Mr & Mrs Bones (for myself and others).
I'm keeping my eye on the Mystic Circle, Pretty Deadly, and a few others, but even just that limited selection above comes to $35 US including shipping, so other stuff might just have to wait for retail.

Plenty of Victorian era graves/monuments have elaborate stone mourners draped over them, I think this is what 398 is meant to be.

Interesting, do you have any links, or title for the theme. If I can get a visual reference then things change. Never seen or heard of a gravestone marked that way, but it sounds like the sort of bad taste idea some Victorians might employ.

Have some random Google-Fu images. A lot of them involve symbols of purity and 'goodness' so be ready for a lot of Angels.

I am pretty sure that she is part of the tombstone - I have seen similar stones in New England, typically mid to late 19th Century. And I am pretty sure that we borrowed it from Olde England.
The Auld Grump - the same era also gave us weeping angels....
*EDIT* Well, rats... I was beaten to it more than once.... The Victorians really did go for some schmaltzy graveyard furniture.

I got this bit wrong guys. The fire giant is a full fire giant apparently, not a fire giant working for the frost giants. Yes the bracers look similar to those the frost giants wear. But there are also fire giant models wearing them, and the armkour is similar but distinctive to the frost giants:
This model is unmistakably proportioned and armed as a D&D fire giant.
So that puts end to that unless I want a specific fire giant jailer as an employee.
However the king and queen giant, which don't really look regal enough for the part, are reinforced by the fact that Reaper have already done a frost (and fire) giant king that is far more impressive.
Here they are:
Listed now as a 'jarl' which makes sense, but also as a king in and earlier Bones kickstarter.
This is listed as a priestess.
The older miniature definitely looks more regal complete with crown etc, the new queen/ jarl's lady however is better than the older one, who better serves as a priestess.
They redid the frost giants due to customer requests. D&D frost giants are like those of Norse legends, not the Inuit/caveman mashups Reaper originally did for Warlord. The original Bones frost giants work for hill giants in the cold (or in general), but didnt fit the aesthetics people wanted.
Anyone looking to my earlier recommendations take note.. the Tyranny of Dragons Frost Giant and the Paizo Frost Giant are similar in size (the Tyranny one is about 3.25" to the Paizo 3") but the Heroclix Frost Giant from the X-men set is massive. To the top of his head (not counting the horns on his helmet or his raised arm) is 3.5" and he's crouching. Standing he'd be 4-5" tall. He's extremely tall but the sculpt is excellent IMO. The newer Reaper Frost Giants look taller than the previous ones. The king that already exists looks to be a little less than 3" and I think the Priestess is as well, making them shorter than all my other FGs. The two warriors we see with Sir Forscale do look to ride a little higher so I would hope the idea was to design some more imposing models designed with Bones in mind vs the previous ones which IIRC existed in metal first, so they had to be designed for that medium.
I think the originals were G1-3 from Dnd 1st or 2nd edition.
That was one of our most lethal HackMaster campaigns, and that's REALLY saying something!
Poor Arok and his level 24 critical hit to the top of the head.
Good times.
I spent $165 on this KickStarter. feth you guys. I didn't want to get roped into this one!
LoL, Temple of Existential Evil was ours. I chewed through most of the original party by the time their replacements made it to the third sublevel- where they broke the seals of Zuggtmoy and slept in a room. She appeared as a wandering monster, and devoured the entire party except for one cowardly mage that honor purged to sneak off.

Thanks for that. I can see that now. Frankly I was planning on rearming the Frost giant king if I got him. I may still do, never liked that female frost giant figure, as the female proportions are closer to human I might try to find some 48mm female vikings, if I can.
alternately as the giant females look human proportioned use a fire giant one.
This XXXXL lass could just be repainted as a frost giantess. Or as a generic giantess.
I'm currently in for 2 stone circles and will be adding the graveyard expansion and 1-2 extra grave yard walls for more terrain. I really wish they'd broken up the big guys base for terrain. I'm still sad they don't sell the castle parts from the last kickstarter separately like they did there :(
Just remember to save up for the Reaper Legendary Encounters prepaints in the fall!
Not clear if the per-mini cost will be about the same as the Bones KS, or what mini's will be selected. Mini's should be from the Bones I and Bones II lines, and I hope anyone who missed these will be able to get the staple monsters and heroes they wanted!
Yeah, I dunno about the LEKS. I'm in the crazy camp of not thinking there was as much value in this KS as 1 and 2, and I don't think adding paint to the mix is going to do much to help that value. If anything, I feel like it will hinder flexibility on how you use some of the pieces.
Can anyone sell me on Shubniggurath as a counts-as tyranid Forgeworld beastie of some kind, or are the scales and proportions too off?
At the moment I'm looking at grabbing the core set (great value, loads of good stuff for RPGs and skirmish games), Stoneskull (likewise), Graveyard (fantastic terrain!), and frost giants (probably just the two warriors).
MLaw wrote: . I'm in the crazy camp of not thinking there was as much value in this KS as 1 and 2,...
The important part is whether or not there is value enough in the current Kickstarter. Comparing it to previous ones is irrelevant. It's like refusing to buy anything in a store ever again after they a had a 50% off sale becuase the prices used to be cheaper that one time.

This pretty much sums up my opinion on the matter. There will never be a Bones 1 again.
The great kickstarter bubble of 2011-2013 will never come back. Some of those campaigns were ridiculous in the value they gave away, and I think we're seeing problems with fulfillment (Kingdom Death, Robotech) or choking off the distribution network for sustained sales (REaper, Mantic).
It's both good and bad. I think we're still seeing good value in kickstarters, but companies are seeing that they don't need to give away the store to have a successful campaign. Of course, campaigns that don't offer much of a discount off retail still struggle, unless people are really committed to a project. I'm looking at you, MEdge...
Basically, the "market" is settling down. We're seeing that for most projects from relatively established or well funded creators, the kickstarter is basically an investment of capital, that will be repaid in product. The rate of return used to be sky high, but it's fallen, as more companies show that they can be trusted, while those that offer huge returns are high risk.

I am so relieved that this is Reaper's next Kickstarter - as I have no interest in it.
The only LE figures that I have ever bought, I got to repaint, and long before Bones was a thing.
Bones fills that niche, and my heart with joy. The joy is felt when a cat jumps on the table, and knocks the minis to a tile floor... where they bounce around (and get chased by said cat) but come out undamaged.

They're running a sale so with the code midsum20 he's $55 You don't enter the coupon until you're on the payment step of checkout. He's already reduced to $69 so it drops it 20% more.
Polonius wrote: Man, you are a one-man resistance force against Reaper!
Nah, I ended up putting some money on this kickstarter anyway but I saw the coupon when I was comparing sizes of different dragons. If anything, I was just trying to offer a solution to people who got inspired to run a quest with Tiamat but maybe don't want to wait a year before running it.
Which.. all boils back to me looking at reaper and dnd models trying to plan out an adventure I'm going to be running with a really big red dragon. I was actually trying to figure out if the DDS dragon was Colossal or not. I'm running the quest arc that ends with Bastion of Broken Souls.
Polonius wrote: Man, you are a one-man resistance force against Reaper!
I'm partial to Dungeon Crawler as the best fit competition to Reaper's Bones. Soon they will have another kickstarter full of monsters and characters offered in painted and unpainted forms. The dwarf owlrider looks like my favorite so far. They also have a behemoth in the works.

It's funny.. I was looking at Dire Rats and GWs Giant Rats for Skaven were one of the cheapest options when purchased as bits. I think they were like $1.50 or something. For bigger stuff it seems like some of the other prepaints are a great option but it's where Bones is at it's best. It's funny though, that Colossal Spider we unlocked at the end of Bones 2 was $15, it's $15.99 in the store now. Probably still one of the better prices you'll find on a spider that big but it takes some of the magic out of the idea of all of these "massive savings" when you sit down and look at the actual numbers. (I only mention it because that's another mini I'll be needing soonish)
I had not seen Dungeon Crawler. The prices look decent but it's looking like fulfillment might be an issue :/

Sort of, otherwise why bother having any different giants (or even sculpts at all). Moreover, there's no particularly good reason for making frost giants cavemen instead of the widely accepted design.

Actually.. it works out to have both. If you have two distinctly different designs of Frost Giants, you can have an FG war. I was going to use the difference in clothing to represent different classes where I needed a buttload of them though. The existing Priestess would be a good shaman, the spear warrior guy.. who I only barely found https://www.reapermini.com/ShowcaseGallery/lord/latest/65100 would be a good barbarian. Either way, imagination definitely helps. I do prefer the Norse look but I think there is room for both. Personally, I did find the existing king to be diminutive compared to most other Frost Giants out there.
EDIT: Turns out that spear dude is completely discontinued :(

Vain wrote: Considering there is more effort in the minis (having them painted) wouldn't it imply that the per-mini cost would be higher?
Dunno. Reaper said they'll use "masks" to paint the miniatures. So instead of a paintbrush, they'll spray the paint onto a figure covered by a mask. That's how toys are painted, I believe.
Bones fills that niche, and my heart with joy. The joy is felt when a cat jumps on the table, and knocks the minis to a tile floor... where they bounce around (and get chased by said cat) but come out undamaged.
The Auld Grump
It happens a bit differently with a dog.
Well, yeah... metals can go through a dog's belly and just need repainting.... (You really do not want to know how I know this.)
For the Bones plastic... the worst offenders are ferrets - who carry them off, and slowly chew them to death over days....

Absolutely and no.
With companies repeatedly using KS, risk decreases. This improves the reputation of the company, so more backers back their games -- particularly the well-known franchises. Zombicide's a good example -- Zombicide: Black Plague made $4M, although, as a "reboot", I'm sure more backers pledged than would have done so for Zombicide 4 (coming up next year). The more backers, the more money, the more stretch goals unlocked, and we're back to high returns. So... instead of returns to compensate for high risk, we now have returns as a result of more funding. (And, even though Bones III made less money than Bones II, the core set still had 150+ unique sculpts, and three expansions were unlocked.)
I'll agree that not all companies will do this, but, I'm sure from the lack of funds in my wallet, enough are doing so.
Speaking of a return, only two hours left for TerraTiles!
@ced1106
Don't think the latest Zombicide campaign is a good example- it was a different theme from their normal modern horror, and probably pulled in more backers because of it.

How big is that model btw?
12" high. Reaper's Tianot is 15" so it's 3" shorter. For me that's a good thing as I am not 100% sure I have room for the Reaper version.

I think that's an additional factor that made it even more successful. Here's what I think pulls in the money that's beyond the reboot:
* CMON: CMON has a track record of fulfilling KS. This means lower risk to backers who avoid projects from unknown companies.
* Zombicide: Zombicide is a familiar franchise of a product available at retail. This means lower risks to boardgamers, who may have played the game or read the reviews, which is not possible for many boardgame KS projects.
* KS window: With its limited time frame, new backers who saw the success (and loot) of previous Zombicide KS, see the next Z campaign as a must-have opportunity for what they missed.
If you look at Z1, Z2, Z3, you see the funds, from 700K, 2.2M, 2.2M. The number of Z2 and Z3 miniatures are roughly the same, or at least the "high return" I believe still exists today, but because of low risks from the creator, rather than the need to attract backers. We'll see if I'm right with Z4 -- although "KS fatigue" works against franchises. To some extent, Reaper's KS suffered "miniatures fatigue" as some backers of Bones I and Bones II said they weren't finished painting their existing Bones yet.
EDIT: If replying, stick to discussing whether or not the lower risk projects on KS are affecting the returns of projects, rather than if Z:BP was a good example.
That Zombicide Kickstarter is a pretty snazzy deal at $150. I actually had not looked at it before. I wasn't aware of the size of some of those models (big!) and there are a lot of great adventurer types and npcs and weird zombies that you always struggle to represent in fantasy games. Getting all of those popular artists on board surely helped as well.
I did not back Black Plague while it was live but I'm looking at it now.

lol. I feel like there's a certain point when all these kickstarters will all miraculously deliver at the same time and I will feel like a kid on Christmas having a birthday.. right up until the postman shoots me.
I've backed a few and they've all been fairly staggered, though I did get to where there was a fairly large IN pile. I'm not sure if it's more or less depressing than having the plastic/lead pile of shame as it's all neatly packed away in boxes.
Someone mentioned Legendary Encounters, being painted Bones figures I was curious.
ReaperBryan wrote:The cost breakdowns on converting Bones to LE are interesting. LE figures cost more per unit (significantly more, not just pennies but 500-1000%) but we don't have to buy a new mold. We do have to buy masks for painting, so what's crazy is that setup for a new color-run of LE is within a hundred bucks or so of setup for a brand new mold for Bones. You have 4-6 figures per mold, so that's 4-6 new SETS of masks, and then by the time you've ordered the minimum quantities of all 6 models at 5x-10x the Bones cost for the same minimum run, yeah, the prices are nearly the same. And then LE retail for ~3x more, so there's slightly more profit per mini (10% of $4 is more than 10% of $2) but we sell slightly fewer. It's a crazy thing to analyze, and I'll admit that I've spent significant time analyzing these numbers in committee, I'm spending less and less energy looking at LE as we ramp up for a Bones 3 launch in 4 weeks.
There are also 4 more giants, 4-5 flavors of transparent weapons, and some more scenery as well. The giants are in two sets for $15 each. They touted them as 75mm but that's not really crazy big. I guess it's still at least twice as tall as a person so probably legit for DnD style giants.
They won't be terribly expensive on miniature market once they hit retail, I think I can wait. Reaper has enough of my money for one year... I may add a clear weapon pack... maybe. Not really sure what I'd do with them though.
Sinful Hero wrote: They also say they're new sculpts while the images are from the first kickstarter... So I dunno what's going on with the fire giants.
I think they are new in that they are a new size. They are almost certainly the old sculpts, since they say they were "resized", likely to match the new size of the frost giants.
I'm glad the little Bonesylvanians made it in. I was just about to order them from miniature market on their summer sale.

Yeah, it kinda feels that way.
I'm not sure on the resizing- update literally said new sculpts. I'd be a bit pissed if all they did was change the size from my old ones after buying them.
My biggest take away from this is the town extras set. I know my kids will like playing with that stuff. Kind of surprised there's no town square fountain to round that set out.
I was just thinking of picking up those fire giants as well. If they'll be even bigger, great. I'm hoping there will be a bit sharper detail n them as well.

@Bench - Larger versions of the models from Bones 1. Now that we understand the material and process better, we wanted to redo them in the size the Monster Books say they are.
@R Statler - new sculpts (because the originals weren't digital and cannot be upscaled easily) but we anticipate the same poses and a greater level of detail to go along with the increased size.
So... new sculpts in the same poses.
They have also fixed the molds on some of the Bones I models that were dropped because of problems. (So, the Steampunk Witch will fly forth.)
Azazelx wrote: Anyone else get the feeling from that update that it was basically a bunch of (fake?) "stretch goals" that never got hit?
What's this with "fake" stretch goals? If you don't like 'em, don't buy 'em.
Add-ons are a risk. If some but not enough backers order an add-on, the company loses money on molds. Maybe Reaper settled the books and found they had enough money from the KS to fund any losses. Or they projected or have enough funds from day-to-day company operations to cover possible losses on the molds. Or they always *did* intend to release these miniatures regardless of the campaign, so were indeed "fake". Before the KS, Reaper planned out SG's to $5M (?). My guess is that, since Reaper is managed by accountants, they finally settled the numbers and realized what else they could offer. I would have preferred they offered them during the campaign to unlock the free SG's, but it's better than them not offering them at all.
My boys are totally going to want a set of red and green weapons so they can fight like Jedis and Sith. There will be no end to the diggy hole I'm stuffing with my money, or the incredible value we continue to receive.
After seeing how much some of the odds and ends I got on the last Kickstarter are costing at retail, makes me a bit hesitant to plunge so much money this time around.
That doesn't mean I'm not spending a pretty penny- I most certainly am. I guess it all works out in the end. Some stuff I got way cheaper than retail, some about the same, possibly a bit more (some of the demons and devils especially).
After building some of the big ticket items from last time, I'm afraid I will end up getting that 5 headed dragon in the end. And Dagon. And the Frogemoth. And the giants. And probably another dragon or two.
Also, when is CAV Bones hitting retail? It feels like we should have seen some of them in the wild by now. What gives?
My understanding is:
1) They produced a bulk load of the original "Core Set" CAVs in white plastic in 2014, and these have indeed already been sent out to backers who wanted two shipments. I am a mad idiot who elected for that option, despite that meaning that I'll have to pay two sets of handling fees.
2) They then switched to a parallel process of getting the new rulebook written and produced, and manufacturing all of the new models (and the old one again) in grey plastic. The former has just been done, the rulebook is going to be available from Reaper any day now. The latter has been held up a bit :
We're very sorry, but we still have been facing some production delays which have caused delivery to be delayed further. Some of the products are not yet finished being produced, and we are working very closely with the manufacturer to identify and resolve the delay.
We understand that the delay is frustrating, but we have an established history of delivering on our promises (see previous kickstarter projects) and hope that all of you will bear with us through this unforeseen delay. Since fulfillment was originally planned to begin this month, we are certainly eager to begin, and hope to be able to get started sooner rather than later.
3) They said on the Kickstarter page that the plan was not to "launch" CAV bones at retail until they had the rulebook and a decent amount of models to support it.
Correction on the 3" bases: "Ah yes, that should be 30 bases for $10 not 10. It is now fixed. Anyone who had previously added to cart will receive the 30, not the 10 it originally said."

We have already removed the rhino from SA2 and reduced the cost accordingly.
Can someone clarify something as this is my first Reaper KS rodeo...
Is it safe to "spend" my pledge, and lock in an order on the pledge-manager, if I intend to order more later? Will they be good about warning when the cut-off is?
I would wait for someone else as I've only locked in bones 2 in a straight shot without looking back, but I think they'll let you add more, businesses like money
On a 180 degree flip, has anyone canceled a pledge with reaper after the fact before? I'm not exactly a dissatisfied customer or anything, but the money would be better spent on some 'real life curveballs' that have been cropping up. I don't really want to go through a ton of song and dance when I'm not dying for the money, but I'm also starting to dread having *that* many more models coming in =/
I imagine that they'd regretfully work with you (possibly with images of Sophie or Mr. Bones crying)- but it shouldn't be too hard to sell portions of your pledge independently, even at this early date. I know earlier in the thread people were already talking about gentleperson's agreements for parts of other pledges.

you can indeed, this is from the update before last
Once you have checked out, items cannot be removed from your "cart" so if you're still deciding what you want, be sure not to Checkout until you are sure.
You can checkout more than once, adding new things as often as you like, but you cannot remove items that have been added.
You will have until 60-90 days before fulfillment (so until June 2016) to finish making your selections, so feel free to lock in early and come back often to get more! You can select less than you pledged for now, and come back later to "finish" selecting items if you need to.
Random Reaper-related question: does anyone know the rough dimensions of their Colossal Spider? Roughly how big a base I would need to put it on, specifically.
TheWaspinator wrote: Random Reaper-related question: does anyone know the rough dimensions of their Colossal Spider? Roughly how big a base I would need to put it on, specifically.
I don't have one, but ideally you'd be looking to put it on a rectangular base of set it on fire and run away screaming
I'm pretty sure the giant spider would have to curl up to fit into one of your shoes. This is the one they tacked on to the end of bones2? I think he's bigger than my hand... That size of spider requires a flamethrower or a machete and a lot of courage
I prefer the cement mixer truck option. After you hit it AND run it over (repeat as necessary) you pour the cement load on it and drive away. The cement may not stop it, but it will give you more drive time to get away.
I saw a metal version of it at miniaturemarket the other day I want to say it's about 4" wide
They also keep pushing for backers to lock in the Pledge Manager. Any consequences not allocating the funds until later (before the pledge manager closes next year)?
The way I see it, the way its set up there's no reason to lick now. If I lock now and change my mind later, its simpler to just add the other thing on. If I wait till the deadline and my tastes have dramatically changed... Then I just pick what I want now and no harm done.
I'm pretty sure my brain tricked itself into backing this thing for no reason. I buy models like a labrat with a modified/removed hypothalamus eats food...
But I spent the money so I'll find something to get with it by lockdown day.
The Kool-Aid King is rendered now.
OHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Nakedstein in the flesh.... errr..... metal. Either way, that's more reanimated corpse than I needed to see.
And the weirdly lovely Naga continues to dominate the updates.
That ghost dude brings 'tactical rock' to a whole new level. And I thought that Batman model with the tactical gargoyle was getting silly. Not sure it will put me off of the set or anything, but I guess we'll see when it's time.
Is anyone else getting a tad annoyed by the emails continually urging us to lock in our pledges when there's no tangible benefit to us, the backers? I mean I'm sure they want to have as much data and figures as soon as possible, and certainly they don't want to deal with us being whiny should any of us miss the deadline or whatever... but frankly, I'd like to give it as long as possible and see as many art updates as possible before locking myself in, regretting it, and (what they're probably hoping) talking myself into buying something else.
Perhaps I'm being a bit dramatic about it, but I'd still like to see how some things turn out and what not.
Yeah, I feel like they have a lot of gall after the Shub Niggurath price hike asking me to do them a solid. My pledge calculations were all thrown by a loop by their blatant money grab, so I'm just going to have to think about it for a while.
I locked in my base pledge and expansion one, which I had planned for in the first place.
So now I have between now and who knows when to keep piling stuff into my order? So be it.
Not that I've painted more than a dozen or so models form the last campaign. Maybe once I clear the current batch of stuff I'm painting I can start dipping in to that reserve...

Better whiny now than pissed off later.
I mean, in the previous KS, we had backers who thought they got the core set *free* at the $100 level. Serves Reaper right to post on Facebook.
*Anyway* random note for the Reaper October promotional thing. Limited edition figures, free paints, etc.
GrimDork wrote: Wait, does that say you might get a rock if you're lucky? Bwahaha.
Gotta love a good throwback to the Peanuts Halloween special.
As for the lock in, I imagine it's a mix of wanting to drift closer and closer to knowing what their production lineup should be like, and knowing from previous experiences that over the course of the next year they'll be guaranteed to have people who still haven't locked in even when shipping begins.
And I'd further bet that some of those people would get righteously pissy with them over their order being held up despite them failing to do a small bit of paperwork for a year and a half.
Sure, it's probably self-serving, but it could also simply be that this is their third campaign and they're already accounting for the... peculiarities of backers that they know exist.
Edit: I'm pretty sure you can 'lock in' multiple times, so it's not like locking in now precludes people from getting more. I can respect the desire to put it off a while and make the most fully informed choices possible, but I can't fault them for wanting as many answers as early as possible either.
you can lock in as often as you like adding more cash,
but not remove it or change previously locked choices,
so while locking if you know what you need is sensible, if you're uncertain waiting till the last minute is sensible
(but no moaning if you miss the cut off and end up 'donating' the money to reaper)
lol, I was certain there would be a list of today's releases..
or is this thread just for the KS?

I really appreciate that the manager notes how many of each item you've already paid for after you lock in if you go back to add more stuff. Nice piece of software.

I find myself sad that today is not an update day.
Also, I realized the need for people to "LOCK IN PLEDGES NOW!" is likely an attempt to avoid the problem they had with Bones 2 where people never locked in with a shipping address. Nobody wants there to be people who don't get shipped anything.
Perhaps I'll just go check whether I want any new add-ons...
It is precisely THIS. By the time we began fulfillment of Bones 2, over 2,000 Backers and NEVER locked in ANY selections (despite our repeated calls to lock in, our repeated attempts to include screen shots to explain how to know if you were compliant, etc.), and we had to do a lot of extra work to determine what needed to be sent to this group of ~15% of our backers. In the end, over 200 of this subgroup we were unable to contact, and therefore unable to determine what they were wanting*, and they received nothing (until they contacted us, some of whom have still yet to do so).
We NEED every backer to have at least locked in selections for the amount of their pledge, and the longer people wait, the more they forget, or the longer they spend thinking they did it already and there are no problems.
To highlight why this is a problem for us - Right now over 4,500 backers have locked in precisely ZERO items. If all 4,500 of these people forget, believe they already have, or never realize that they need to**, then we will have nearly 1/3 of our backers receive no rewards at all.
*people who pledged exactly $100 and also had a "core set level" were easy. People who pledge $65 or $196 were not.
**despite the numerous reminders we send out, many people never read them. At least a DOZEN e-mails a day arrive asking "it is now October, when will my KS reward ship? (because they both did not A: read the estimated delivery date when they pledged and missed the '2016' part, and B: have not read a single update and do not know that we have a year to go). Sadly, the more this happens the more I am convinced that asking them to take this specific action in the updates is futile, because they are clearly not reading them to begin with... ::(:
Not directly related to the KS, but The Warstore finally has the Reaper Master Series High Density Sets 1 and 2 in stock. Each 19 paints for $30, plus shipping. Sets are good for new painters, or to get your Bones to tabletop faster.
Good stuff. Finally locked in my pledge. Dropped my core set to pick up some of the bigger models and swapped graveyard for mythos got the clear weapons for I don't know why and both chibi sets for some random reason. Still only $27 over my initial pledge could have been worse...
Did anyone else know that the Solar was supposed to have a lion head? I didn't know that.
Not sure why but the wings aren't doing it for me. Hopefully they'll be unattached anyways, so a quick fill in and I'll have me another feline headed warrior for my next Song of Blades & Heroes project.
I didn't know that when I paid for one... Not too upset about it, though. The wings look like decoration and not real wings, like he's the Beast cosplaying Jessica Alba from Idle Hands. The sword also looks a bit...cosplay. It's the kind of sword only a spikey haired boy should wield.
Apologies if this constitutes thread necromancy, but is anyone able to tell me the latest projected shipping dates for this project? Specifically wave 10 shipping?
Something which I fell afoul of, which probably isn't a common problem, but:
If you change the address of your Reaper pledge for one project, it changes even the locked in pledges for ALL non-dispatched projects! So when I wanted my Bones III pledge to be sent to a friend in the US for pickup, guess where my (expensive international shipping already paid) wave 2 of my CAV pledge ended up going? Yup.
Whoa! I clicked that link on a lark, and it let me log in using my Bones I info. Does that mean that the PM is open to me as well? Not that I can justify buying another giant box of Bones at this time...
kronk wrote: Can't wait for more gak that I'll never paint!
I have plenty of unpainted bones, but I actually really like how quickly they are to get ready for painting. Hobby knife off a few mold lines, give it bath, and throw on your base paint. Then it paints up nice and smooth. They're great models for traveling painting as well!
The Pledge Manager has been reopened until June 3rd, due to a slight miscommunication.
I would make sure to hit it on the 2nd, since the miscommunication was folks thinking that it would close at the end of the 1st, not at midnight - the very start of June 1st....
(The tragic reopening of the Pledge Manager has already led to Shub Niggurath slipping through, to wreak havoc upon my unsuspecting players....)
I checked my confirmation email and realised I'd ended up with two dragons I really don't want. I must have checked them out months ago and not taken them off the PM.
Shipping is so ludicrous for me already (UK backer) that I didn't notice the extra $20
Shipping for this one has been quite.. surprising on my end. I got a battery of Sledgehammers, a squad of not-StarCrap Marines and Mr and Mrs Bones plus a mere $18,35 in shipping.
Only worries right now are whether or not being in the first wave actually means getting it first due to being a bloody foreigner and how badly I will be hit by customs.
Reaper is ready.
They are in the process of readying everything to ship, and have all product in their warehouse. If your address has changed, this would be the time to update your pledge manager.
Sorry for the necro- but some Bones are too cool to stay buried.
At first, I was "All right, I'll get it sooner than later!" Then I remembered that I'm having it sent to a US postbox to save on shipping. Ah well, I can wait a while longer.
The status of the EU pledges is back into limbo once more it seems.
To begin, Euro-Zone (Europe, Africa) orders are loaded on a container, although I do not have confirmation on which ship that container is assigned to, so I cannot give an ETA for when it will arrive in the UK. You will receive tracking from the UK facility when they apply postage, we will keep you updated with the container progress as we can.
The problem is fantasy has roots in history and myth and generally everyone can agree what a fantastic world would look like so you can use fantasy figures with almost any game.
Sci Fi tends to go in much wider directions with most enviornments having their own look, an X-Wing pilot doesn't really fit into Starfleet or the Imperial Navy.
They might be able to manage if they do some not-series based on some of the vaguer settings.
Space western has a rather distinct style that could cover for things like firefly and a number of other series.
Space fantasy is a great excuse for jedi knock offs
ISO Standard is good for big bulky looking vaguely scifi things like their existing troopers
Anime style absurd interlocking plates.
Space empire for those full face mask bad guys that are magically everywhere
Toss on some space crews in either bulky suits, skin suits and then oddly featureless uniforms.
You could totally build this out. I'd wishlist some cyberpunk but I know I'm well alone on that.
The real question is would that actually sell.
That said, got my shipping notice on bones 3, looks like it's going to take about a week per the tracking information.
I mean, people find edge uses for figures in all kinds of places, but I always got a sense that their meat and potatoes were likely Pathfinder/D&D groups.
Sure, there are plenty of games and genres that could use figures too, but that's always been my take.
To be clear though, I'd be happy with them broadening their offerings. I don't run D&D at the moment, so 200 goblins/skeletons/ogres/dwarves/etc doesn't hold much appeal, but one of the few packages I did get were the mixed adventurers, which I hope to use with a board game I've been collecting.
I play a load of different skirmish games and bigger wargames so these will always be useful, but yeah, I too may be reaching peak Bones. I guess I'll see how close I am to finishing painting III by the time IV launches.
I am running a Pathfinder game for 9 year olds... I need all the Bones that I can get!
(I had a trap go completely pear shaped at the game on Tuesday - as when I was describing the slope and the goblins rolling a barrel into position, the kid playing the wizard yelled 'Ohcrapit'sabombFIREBALL!' which was accompanied by a natural twenty on his Initiative.... So, I picture his character saying exactly that, and firing off his fireball in the same breath... )
Anyone know what the deal with the little square plugs in the Graveyard fence set is about? One side has the copyright info, the other side has a weird protrusion.
MasterSlowPoke wrote: Anyone know what the deal with the little square plugs in the Graveyard fence set is about? One side has the copyright info, the other side has a weird protrusion.
Fills in the top of the fence posts is my only guess. Cut the peg or file the reaper trademark stuff to get a smooth finish on top. Gap fill with some PVA or superglue maybe? Think that's what I'll do.
Lots of really cool minis this time round. My favorites are the yetis.
I had two big wishes to my past self. Both came at reapercon. One was that I wish I would have gotten the savage avatars. The figures in person were some of the best sculpts I've ever seen. There were also a few of the less expensive dragons I skipped on that I will have to try to pick up at this years reapercon.
I got the clear ones and they seem to have been doubled up. One or two may have snapped but I think I can mitigate it.
Pretty happy with the large majority.
Camel is huge but I guess they are actually that big.
Frost giants are sweet for the price. Should have bought that solar and fire giant for the price...
The worm, dagon, and the black goat ar all well worth their cost. The dagon statue was kinda meh. For the price, it wasn't *nearly* the size of other similarly costed items.
Crusaders and corsairs are as cool as they looked.
The two chibi sets are a bit on the small side, I'm not sure if they'll match up with other stuff like SDE or krosmaster. Still cute. Mr and Mrs bones are pretty cool though.
Shipping notice received! Looks like it's coming UPS, last time it was FedEx.
Ugh, FedEx. :-(
Mine was in the last half of wave 6. So it's moving along pretty well, much better than Bones I.
They are up to wave 10 now and only 3000-ish orders left to fill! They are really moving on this, I didn't expect to see my stuff until at least October!
Woohoo! I got my shipping. I regret not getting all the Savage avatars or the yetis. I also should have sprung for more of the big guys with tentacles.
I didn't see this thread back when it was started, but it is cool that Reaper is getting things shipped out (even though it has ONLY been almost TWO WHOLE YEARS since it finished).
I am excited for everyone one of the models to paint up, and let my kids practice painting on.
I gotta say Reaper keeps getting better and better with how Bones fit together. Goremaw fits together so well you can't even tell where it comes apart.
Loving the Mausoleum and Stonehenge as well. Definitely glad I got the spare fences- should have gotten one more though.
My good lady got her notice last week, and I got mine yesterday.
Her package would have arrived yesterday, if there had been anyone there to sign for it. (I love my wife - she stole my hill giants from me when they came in for the Bones II Kickstarter. You have no idea how happy that made me. Then she used them to squish my undead in Kings of War - so they were put to good use.)
The Auld Grump - one of them is named ROFLStomp....
I was disappointed on the fit of some models. Most of all the Behir for me was incredibly disappointing.
The old D&D Giants Attack Behir was one of my favorite prepainted figures. Quite large and detailed figure. I got rid of it around the time Reaper previewed their Bones one.
Way too many parts on far too large of base considering the size of the creature, and most my parts did not want to fit, heated up or not.
I guess you win some, you lose some. Quite happy with just about all the other figures.
Mine came in the mail last night. My wife said I was adorable and acting like a kid on Christmas morning. Which, to be fair, is how I was feeling
I'm super-excited to paint some of these models up. Many of them, particularly the Core Set, will likely end up as practice models for my wife and kids to paint on. But a bunch others will get re-purposed for some custom AoS scenarios.
How did everyone else's models come out? I had everything in the order that I ordered, and the only miscast was on one individual figure from the Core Set (the human with the cane and the snake wrapping around it, the snake's head didn't fill out).
My plans this week are to start prepping the models. I don't have the cash on hand for the new 40K stuff, so I will be working on these for the immediate future.
I didn't go all in, and haven't had time to assemble anything yet, but it all looks good so far. The crusaders will do very well in Frostgrave or as Sigmarines. Shub Niggurath is suitable huge. The Solar is pretty awesome, etc.
However, I think the big winners from this campaign are the weapons of virtue and death, and vice to a lesser degree. They look great and will work with all kinds of miniatures. No one need wield a bendy sword again.
I'm pretty embarrassed that I don't remember what I pledged for. I know I went for the giant dragon and Sledgehammer gun, but not anything else I put down for.
Europeans don't get theirs until at least July, so it'll be a pleasant surprise.

This is what their email said:
Reaper Miniatures wrote: There is a Missing Part From my Order OR a Missing "Bit" from a Model
If you are missing one or more models, or one or more parts from a model (whether an entire model or simply an arm/head/weapon/etc.) please contact us to receive a replacement. We will not "replace" parts which are not listed on your Invoice or were not locked in on your Pledge Manager.
- Your Order Number as shown in the Pledge Manager (Not your backer number)
- Your full name as shown in the Pledge Manager
- Your shipping address as shown in the Pledge Manager
- The part number of the item in question as shown on the large graphics of the Home Page of the Kickstarter Project.
- A brief description of the problem - “Model xxx is missing her left wing”, “model is damaged or mis-cast”, etc.
Please remember to refer to the model’s left and right sides as if you were the model in question. This is the most common mistake of this kind, misidentifying the left and right sides. Please help us to get the correct parts to you.
Please DO NOT include screenshots or attachments of photographs of the miniatures or boxes when you email us unless we request it. Attachments are incredibly insecure, and we do not open attachments from untrusted and unknown sources. Emails with unsolicited attachments will be deleted without being read.
Likewise, emails that are exasperatingly long and complex, or which contain vulgar and abusive language will be moved to the end of the queue, and in extreme cases will be deleted without resolution. If we cannot determine your problem and the appropriate resolution quickly, we will not take hours to do so, nor will we wade through paragraphs of profanity and insults to our heritage to help you. Please send only one email of this kind. Sending a new email each day with “Oh I just noticed this” will not help. If you have already sent an email, reply once to the first email with the required information.
We will not begin the replacement process for missing or damaged items for several weeks. It will take us some time to reset and be able to process these emails.
So it will take them a bit of time to get to it, but they are ready for the emails.
I'm planning on taking over the dining table this week to prep and clean the models, and inspect every one of them at that point to make sure they are all in good shape before emailing Reaper. I'd rather make just one email to them.
_____
I think Goremaw is my favorite model out of all of them. So cool!
I thought that I was missing the Sophie from the Core pledge... went through the box several times....
Then I looked at my wife's side of the painting table, where the 'missing' figure was sitting, cleaned, primed, and half painted already....
You have no idea how happy that makes me.
The Auld Grump - for two decades I had a non-gaming girlfriend that tolerated my hobbies. Now, I have a wife that steals my minis for herself! The difference is beyond description.
We have been informed by our partner in the UK that the container of rewards has arrived in port, and they are optimistic about arrival at their facility soon. They have told us that they expect to begin shipping rewards a day or two after delivery to them.
We do not have an update about AU rewards at this time, but we promise to inform you as soon as we have new information.
Reaper posted on their homepage that Bones 4 is coming this August! Just as soon as we get in our Bones 3, they ask for more. Gah! Hopefully I can have a bit more control over myself this time around (not having as large a hobby budget should help).
Hopefully I can get some money saved up for this. I was excited for the new 40K stuff, but I think Reaper is more likely to grab my interest right now.
