Assembled some Chaos Space Marine characters...then realized I don't have the primer colour I want for them...or the heads...or the jump packs. Time to wait.
Spent the whole day assembling models. It took me more time than I expected but I got done a flying Hive Tyrant, a Trygon and 2 Warriors. I've also mostly completed a Tervigon, just waiting for green stuff to dry so I can make sure the arm magnets are secure before sealing up the body.
I think that's Barry done now. I've gotta admit, I really have no idea what to do with him, he's basically, well, red, with a bit of gold in places (I might tidy up the gold a bit more on his arm). And trying to keep the darker red seems to have made all my highlights look near identical.
Finished painting the Winged Knight for Dark Souls. Played Sub Terra and Battlestar Galactica at Ampthill on Board. Primed the Dancer of the Boreal Valley.
Based/finished my Asurmen and finished up three shining spears (and Fuegan was finished the other day). Probably going to do a handful of Chaos Marine stuff if I can.
Busy day. Started working on 5 justicaerin and 5 legion terminators, finished up 20 heavy support guys and 5 veteran tacticals, started working on 2 apotecharion, put most of above guys on bases(6 models short of bases...Could have swore I prepared enough bases but guess not). Started preparing missing bases(need to buy more basing materials) and assembled 25 more tacticals to the level I can before forge world order comes. 10 will be used to fill up 2 tactical squads to 20 strong(now 2x15) and rest will be used for blood angel force.
So yeah. Lots of marines! In about 1.5 month there's 30k tournament I'm aiming to attend and want to have as much options available when deciding army list.
Nice to see concrete force with multiple units painted, based and ready to go Also several vehicles are in fairly good level as well.
Assembling 30 MKIII marines for blood angels, assembled 2 custodians*(rest need to wait 'till I figure what to do with upgrade weapons) that I'll do paint test for them and arranged for UPS delivery for forge world order.
Asher Cobb from the Savage Worlds Sixth Gun RPG miniatures set. Other miniatures from the defunct Itar's Workshop. Paints and basing material by the Army Painter.
"A mysterious 9 foot tall mummy bent on reviving his lost love in life. Asher wanders the South as a puppet to dark forces in "The Sixth Gun"" -- Comic Vine
"Asher Cobb was born deformed. He was oversized, which made him an outcast. To add to that, he also received visions. Visions of the future. He was befriended only by a nice girl named Ruth who he fell in love with. One day he received a terrible vision of Ruth’s death. So to prevent the death of the girl he loved, he sought out some old witches and made a devil’s bargain to cheat death. But to do that, he had to endure death." -- Paxholley.net
He also had to wear pale red clothing. Which I found very annoying. And, no, that's not his coffin. Tutorial in the RPGGeek Sixth Gun forums!
Well forge world packet seems to be in my possession today so will be putting blood angel and sons of horus shoulder pads/heads to washing for one. Try airbrushing power weapons for custodes and start working on non-metal parts as I try liquid gold for them and seems I should do other parts and varnish before doing liquid gold. Interesting change of order.
Also start painting head of Horus so I can get him toward done stage as well. Need to fulfil promise of showing FW customer service the completed version.
I built my Overlord frigate today. Nice kit to put together. My only worry is that I popped the carbines into place and I think it might have been best to leave them off till after it's painted. But time will tell.
Bought some plastic canvas...and re-sprayed (ugh) my platforms - did decide on an aesthetic for the table though. Will maybe work on some bridges later.
Just finished assembling and painting up the Mystic Circle and the Cemetery Mausoleum from the third kickstarter for Reaper Bones. When I get a huge new pile of goodies, everything else gets put on hold (and my wife is rarely pleased...)
3 are ready for ink, working on a oop turret for #5 and a just finished the turret for #4, then got the rhino, 2 exorcists, and Repressor...and then ink the SoB Stormtalon, then paint the SoB L. Raider Redeemer, ink it, THEN DECALS FOR EVERYONE! *passes out*
Today's goal is woirk on painting of few bases, varnish bunch of models and wash whole lotta forge world pieces. If still time work on several sons of horus vehicles.
Aetare wrote: Assembled some 30k Thousand Sons! Looking for a way to get that metallic red effect....
Cool aren't they Official HH painting way seems to involve airbrush(too tough for my skills!). Seems GW tints + metallic paints could be used to give similar maybe. So runefant steel or something+red tint in suitable amount might work.

Yeah I think I'll have to resort to airbrushing with metallics and the 'clear' FW paints.
Busy day for me - so just putting some transfers on a Contemptor Dreadnought, and maybe starting to do some shading on my Shadow War Armageddon terrain.
The start of my Eldar army arrived (my 3rd new army this year...), a Start Collecting box, a box of wraithguard and a wraithlord. It'll be expanded with either another 6 Windriders or more Wriathguard. I'll probably start building the bokes when I get home.
Worked bit on Horus base, washed more forge world parts and finished assembly(well except base but those are separate to painting models) for 40 HH blood angel tacticals(split into squad of 20 and 2 squads of 10 in rhino's), 10 blood angel support squad with volkite calivers and 10 sons of horus tacticals to be spread among 2 existing squads to make 2 squads of 20.
Also been varnishing previously finished sons of horus models. Phew.
Weekend plan to finish up painting for 5 justicaerin(minus one arm I need to figure how to do) and 5 legion terminators in cataphractii armour. Plus work on Horus base and maybe try painting Custodes.
I played a game of aos skirmish! flesh eaters against my slaughterpriest and friends. My slaughterpriest was slaughtered, and it was a good time for all
Finished the Taros Venator. Now my Elysians are complete, except for my desire to mount the three FW flyers on GW plastic bases...looks like my only option is to drill.
Cheers,
CB
PS: And posted two last battle reports in the old edition in my Sisters of Battle PLOG.
I've been working on assembling my Knight models backlog tonight. Since I've started being grumpy about Wayland failing to deliver my preorders for the latest releases in a reasonable time, it seemed to be fair for me to get rid of the backlog.
So that's Shazam, Black Adam, 3 parademons and... Darkseid himself assembled tonight.
Just finished and dipped a new Chaos Warlord...will try to finish the other five marines once they dry. May take a crack at a sorcerer if I can find enough bits.
Finishing off the Maus, one of the largest tanks in the German WWII arsenal, and starting on a Rutscher; which sat on the completely opposite end of the scale, coming in at 3.5 tons.
Played my first game of 8th edition 40K yesterday with a best mate, so today I'm working on painting more Tyranids for my army and assembling the new objective markers. The Xenos Stasis-Crypt is amazing
beezley1981 wrote: Just took a few dozen terrain pictures for EBay, Etsy, and the Swap Shop. I HATE taking pictures with a passion, haha.
Played a couple of rounds of Bolt Action (in 1:72 scale, so it was modded slightly) and decided I LOVE it. So, 3 days after I started my Eldar, I have found a new army: WWI-era Finns.
About three more bits and I will have the death guard built from the new starter box. Our game store was letting customers buy just the models for $100 (they would pull the hardcover rules out and give you the rest) so I have another full set still on sprue to build.
Well been painting sons of horus models a bit and assembled contemptator assault cannons and 3 scimitar jetbikes magnetizing everything so that I can swap out guns for bikes and arms for dreadnought at will. Have just CCW for dreadnought as alternative for now but will get more guns in future. But for bikes FW is friendly enough to provide every gun so from all meltas to all volkites to heavy bolters with one heavy gun for FA I can do it all!
Beautiful models too so can't wait to get them painted up.
Made a quick pilgrimage to the not local gamestore yesterday to get index imperium 1. Been going through my marines and deciding what's good and what I want to use.
Looking to make up a list of 52 models to paint before allowing myself to pickup DI.
Leth wrote: Organizing all of my DKOK bits since I now have the impetus to start getting my guard assembled and primed. Also need to see how my special weapons numbers are holding........
Anyone have any suggestions for a unit of conscripts that might fit with the DKOK range? One of the problems I am running into is that they are much smaller and proportional compared to the current guardsment line(cant wait to see them next to primaris marines) and most of the rest of the GW human line looks cartoonish next to them. Any advice for third party models that would fit as conscripts with the current DKOK? I definately cant afford to make a conscript squad or two from FW...
You could actually try to go old school and get the old metal Cadians.
Just ordered about 100 bucks in 3rd party bits to make my 30 noise marines......
Started getting my bases started by putting down the GW texture paint and then priming them. Gonna get the Rhinox Hide Can of Primer afterwards and then its two layers of dry brushing....Prepping like 300 bases so its gonna take a bit haha
I'm contemplating how I want to paint my Primaris from Dark Imperium. I don't really want to just paint them up as Ultramarines, as that sounds incredibly boring to me as I've been painting Ultramarines. Going through some other chapters and trying to decide which one I want to go for. I'm currently stuck between the Scythes of the Emperor and the Mantis Warriors. Both have ample reason to want Primaris in their ranks, it's just a matter of finding a good way to do the color schemes for either of them.
I meant that in the "I hate putting the kit together" sense, so much superfluous stuff in it. Same thing as a Riptide or Knight Titan, I can put a Forge World resin Knight together in literally half the time as the plastic knight.
Then assembled and magnetized a dozer blade for the Rhino/Predator/(Soon to be vindicator). Also painted up the bases on my 10 newly painted cultists. Had a productive day. Being hindered by poor weather though.
Today for me consists of organizing old models in order to sell them off, maybe some more prep work on my Reaper Bones 3 Kickstarter models (so many figures...), and helping my wife pick out which Hirst Arts molds she wants to start making some homemade castles (already got some Plaster of Paris to try out!).
The Wizards tower one is a good one to start with, plaster of paris is not what you want though, well maybe to test, its what to brittle - get casting plaster, like hyrdostone etc.
Today:
cleaning up some old AoBR orks ready to repaint in the desert blood axe colours I'm going with..
Trying to remember the colours I used, last time I touched this project was when 7th came out

No worries; plaster is what is available at our local shops, and will be a good enough to see if we do enjoy casting our own castles and everything. If we do, we will definitely be upgrading to the better materials (already found a place to purchase it).
My Adam West Batmobile and Tumbler turned up today. - Don't worry, the Tumbler is black like all the others, just for some reason it decided to massively reflect the flash of the camera.
On my third day of painting 3 Tyranid Warriors. Got most of it done so far. I just need to finish the guns, attach them, paint the joints and base them.
Went to my club instead of finishing them. Played Brits in a WW1 rear guard action. Lets just say von Kluck is going to be retiring early.
I'll be committing a t least an hour to read 8th edition rules in a little while. Went to the GW store in Glendale for the 1st time today, I'm new to 40k. It's lone employee is a cool guy named Chad and we had a chat. Ordered Arjac Stonefist through the store and bought a box of Wolf Guard Terminators off the shelf. All in all it looks like the LA 40k crew is a decent lot based on the people I've met at a couple different stores. The painted Space Wolves army I bought is 1 day away according to USPS tracking. I'll be refreshing that tracking quite a bit tomorrow.
It's also useless in 8e right now, and its place in my army is to be taken by a Wave Serpent, which, as a transport, has a greater AT capacity than the Prism... Anyways, I'm broke atm so that means I can't just buy a Serpent.
Drying 10 lbs of dirt in my oven for some commission terrain pieces before my girlfriend gets home from work... For some reason I think she'd not be OK with it being in there, haha.
Was working on painting the first of my knightworld IG's counts as Bullgryn when I got the urge to redraw my regimental commander. Also got some more painting done on the regular guardsmen as well
Visit to FLGS to be defeated (twice) at FoW V4, a set of rules I still don't really see the purpose behind, V3 was to me more enjoyable - maybe when there are more than two very anaemic books and Battlefront drop the 'collectable cards' idea which works in science-fi games with small numbers of units... but WW2?
anyway, also picked up a box of ork boyz to go with some AoBR models that have been primed today.
On a recommendation picked up the £20 AoS starter.. not too fussed on the models but will give them a go for that price, likely to use the somewhat dusty WHFB models in the back room though.
Also Mrs L passed her driving test so she was driving. currently sitting with a large drink and wondering how to get hair colour back...
Well the Vulture proved to be tougher than I anticipated. I attempted to use the same method I used on the Valkyries and it failed miserably. The balance point is further aft and looks like I am going to have to drill.
I completed a DV librarian as Ezekiel (or some kind of counts as) for my Angels Ascendant. I also rebased Venerable Bitzboxius and took a few photos of my fledgling Angels Ascendant strike force. Sadly the pod, marines, and scouts aren't even a part of my target 26 model Deathwing list. However, they'll be a nice sideboard for variety.
Finished painting and basin the Death Guard models from one of my DI boxes. Also got in a nice game of Frostgrave and tried a deck builder called Arctic Scavengers.
Continue working on my Universal Carrier platoon for my Desert Rats force:
The only problem is that I didn't realize that the gunner won't really fit if the gun is glued into place first, so I'll have to find a workaround to get him in there.
Ran a tournament for the Batman Miniatures Game yesterday, had a great turnout and it was a great event overall
Also building a couple of things, Miss Step that I won from a Malifaux tournament a month ago, and Kid Flash that I got given by my FLGS as a thank you for running the tournament yesterday. Now that I'm finished uni for the semester I'm hoping to put a dent in my backlog as well
I have had a good time putting together some scrap buildings, now it is the time to paint them. This is the part i always mess up, and my buildings end up looking muddy and awful. but i think i've got it figured out this time!
I had my first real set of 40k games today in 8th that weren't learner games. I won once, lost once, and won one game by default (there wasn't enough players, so I got a free win). I also got to face Necrons and Orks for the first time ever. I had close games with both, I lost to Orks by 1 VP in a kill points mission (I just couldn't seem to finish off any units) and I defeated Necrons by 1 point in a Relic mission
I've still got to wash in some algae, thin out the flock in some places, and tone down the colors a touch. Hopefully I'll have them finished after work tonight!
Finished some Intercessors last night - but I'm thinking I'll go back and add another layer of highlight to the pouches - the Nuln Oil faded them out a bit too much.
This week (because I get maybe an hour of hobby time a night after work, at best), I hope to finish up inspecting cleaning mold lines and flash off of my Reaper Bones 3 models (only a handful of miscasts so far) before washing each of them, and then I hope to finish smoothing and gap filling a Forge World Sicarin tank for a friend.
Sometime this week I should be getting in a game or two of AoS as well, and selling off some old on-sprue models.
I rather like the effect vallejo liquid gold provides. Bit of a bummer to work with since it's alcoholic so not using this for every model but Horus and Custodians felt important enough(and small in numbers) it felt right.
Weird to paint all non-metals first, varnish and then work on gold...
Put the chaos stuff together from the £20 AoS starter, will prime tomorrow and hopefully paint Friday.
Bit more on the AoBR Orks I'm salvaging, Nobz weapons now painted a nice rusty metal (tin, dry brushed gun metal, a bit of the corrosion textured wash GW do, then the GW dry orange rust colour as a dry brush.) still need to put the sharper edges back in a brighter metal colour but for now it will do.
Worked on the original FW Vulture to build a mount using brass rod to the GW flying stand. Still not a perfect match but getting closer. Also worked on some new 40K terrain.
Just mostly assembled Canis Wolfborn. I'm leaving his arms and backpack off until I paint him (which is going to be a while). I'm also going to have to fill a couple of gaps and casting defects with ProCreate putty. FailCast strikes again.
I'm also starting to get some paint down on my Dark Imperium Primaris Marines.
Started building a Wraithguard, but as I didn't have instructions I got the build wrong. Then I realised that what I had thought was plastic glue was in fact superglue. Feth.
Luckily, my trusty garden clippers were to hand, and several cuts and shavings of plastic later, I had rectified the error in an inconspicuous manner.

If neither of the above work and you haven't started painting, toss the whole thing into a tub of Purple Power. It breaks down the CA bond.
Breaking out the flock and static grass for the first time in an age in order to make some funky woodland themed traps,The kind Catachan's use to set ambushes on death worlds.
Making a 1/72nd plane to go with my 28mm WWII Germans. This kit is godawful. The guide has numbers on it for the parts, but the sprues don't. I've managed to put some of the wing parts on back to front because there's details which are in the instructions which aren't on the actual model (its one of those prototype planes which has two fuselage). That and the amount of gaps is obscene.
Well, at a man I doing you ask. Unfortunately I've moved to an area where Games stores are sparse and I went to a tournament five years ago, so gaming is underground here, and I'm not in the know. But, with the release of Warhammer 40K 8th I've found a moment of excitement and used that to motivate myself to start back into the hobby and hopefully find other gamers.
I warmed up my painting with an AOS Khorne Berserker looking barbarian. And I've started work on a couple of Space Marines for my Blood Angels.
The ghostly (not to mention blobby and orange) semi-corpeal husk of Billjohn O'Henry. Miniature from the Pinnacle Entertainment Group's Savage Worlds : Sixth Gun RPG Miniatures set.
Risking my converted Wraithguard's life on a layer of Flesh Wash to bring some muted and musty colour to the otherwise featureless landscape that is matte black.
Today, I am beginning work on painting an Ironclad Dreadnought, assembling a Land Raider Crusader (it may become a Redeemer, depending on how my already assembled crusader performs), and also getting a 2000 point game in at the shop.
Today, I am thinking about writing up some custom narrative campaign stuff for my local AoS players to keep excitement up for AoS, since 40K has taken so much of everyone's attention.
Also, I am about ready to make a purchase on the couple of Hirst Arts molds I want to start casting with. So maybe I will order my first molds tonight or this weekend!
Painted up a bunch of green stuff bits,x10 Aquila Eagles,x5 Necron Scarabs,x5 Bike Hubcaps,x5 Water Bottles,x6 Krak Grenades,x6 Frag Grenades, about 20 Cables/Mechadendrites,add to that things being painted right now x5 holstered bolt pistols,x13 pouches of various types, will post them at some later date in my green stuff album, then later going to update my pirates CSG thread, while watching lost "again" lol
Edit:Raincheck on that thread update, there are 300+ pictures left to upload, that first.
Primed my second and final batch of DG from the starter.
Primed and finished painting, decaling (everything but dull coating) a second-hand Leman Russ for my GSC.
Bought some some 40&25mm Bases, with which my last several sets of objective markers will be made,as well as some green stuff just in case I want to make more bits, and checking out the new warhammer stuff, think i might actually buy that first strike box due to its semi reasonable price.
Got my first 8th edition ITC tournament today. I'll be running Dark Angels with most of my Primaris marines. Probably not terribly competitive but hopefully it'll be fun.
but what has this to do with the hobby you ask? Well I'm hoping to finally get space for a gaming table, todays attempt which I hope I actually get provides an oversized garage which would allow two 6'x4' tables with space to put them together as a long or a wide table...
I'm currently magnetizing some stormbolters for my wolf guard and pack leaders since in 7th edition I didn't see any reason to take them but now they're a super cheap and helpful anti infantry tool and I need 8 pieces.
I have to convert some arms with chainswords, bolt pistols or boltguns (basically cutting them off) since in any SW kits there only are stormbolters for left hands, and I need a couple of them to be equipped in the right hand.
I'll probably convert a couple of frost swords in some right arms too for the same reason.
SilentScreamer wrote: So what are you are all doing today for games like WH40k, WHFB and other war games? Me, I'm planning on making a Skaven army list and talking to my friend a bit more to try and convince him to purchase a dwarf army he's interested in, how about the rest of Dakka?
Looking at the painting I have to get done and procrastinating.
Found UCM Praetorian Snipers and Resistance Occupation Veterans for criminally cheap on amazon so I ordered them.
Still cursing the fact that my state has continued to be a rain forest for last week and looks to remain one for the rest of this week as well, so I can't prime stuff to paint.
Yesterday afternoon the humidity was low enough that I web able to prime my UCM Flak teams, Longbows (and the Crossbow lasers), as well as partially assemble and prime my Resistance Thunderstorm Custom (there's enough hard to reach spots that I figure I'd fully assemble after it's done).
On a side note, discovered the Thunderstorm is tall enough that even in the 2" deep battlefoam, the communications dish and plasma guns will stick out over top. I wasn't planning on magnetizing those but I may have to.
Guess what, spending more time repairing my broken Photobucket images with Imgur images.
Imgur is a bit of a pain, as sometimes it saves the image and sometimes it does not. It also places them in the strangest order that does not stay the same when you re-organize images.
I started stripping my old Guardians today, and continued painting the wind riders (I bought another box of them in vienna, so I better ike how they turn out)
I use the Dakka gallery as well, but some material I just saved the link from Photobucket as it was quicker than loading every image. Elysian PLOG is done now.
Just bought myself a new Space Marine army to get back into the game. Going to assemble and paint some of those, possibly start a P&M blog on here to get help with my painting, and keep me on track with getting it done.
After a few weeks of agonising over my new Primaris Marines force, I've finally settled on a core colour scheme, background fluff and a Chapter Icon. The first tentative steps forward are in the blog link below with some fun to read fluff.
I have my first 10 Intercessor built, and today I started painting the first 5 man squad through undercoat, double basecoat and to initial shade.
Deciding on how to tackle a Stormcast Celestant Prime conversion without using those naff clouds that he's attached to (which will inevitably break)...
No luck yet. I might just have to get the kit and use the clouds, though a Micro Art Studio base is looking tempting. I wonder how I would go about buying one in GBP?
Basecoat Kantor Blue...
2nd Basecoat Kantor Blue
Nuln Oil shade
Also built the Captain in Gravis Armour. Enjoyable mini to put together. Don't particularly like the pose (he looks like he's thrusting out his belly), but he looks fun to paint once these Intercessors done.
Decided on a color scheme for my new necron army yesterday. . . Sprayed my first batch of gits today with gold, and now deciding where the other color(s) go
Watching reviews and play through of the Blood Bowl PC/PS4 game. My copy of the latest edition sits unused (played it twice----once against wife's cousin) and will remain unused with our available community.
Today I (mostly) finished work on Bjorn the Fell-Handed. The base is not done and I'll finish it at a future date. The whole model could probably have used nore detail but I need to move on to the next ones. It needs a coat of dullcote so I can put it on the table tomorrow.
Painted up x3 Medium and x3 Small Balsa wood Crates,in different paint schemes,as too much brown looks dull, also painting more green stuff bits......again.
Finished this guy today:
He was the Deathwatch Venerable Dread that came in the Harlie/DW boxed set. Couldn't ever get a trade offer for the NOS model so green stuffed him to be DG.
You can't tell it from the picture but he has three skulls (one on each shoulder and one staring dead center).
Finishing the last 46 Green Stuff Lasgun Power Packs, only the annoying highlighting left to do,then i have all the bits needed to embark on my final objective marker project, there will be more sets than you have fingers, unless your a mutant.
Did some work on a unit of Eldar Rangers and one coat on my Fire Dragons. So of moving from unit to unit on a whim to paint one part of the models. As the two 10 man squads of Dire Avengers I have done are not quite complete even though they are above table top standard already. It is the Eldar effect.
I am painting things while they are still on the sprue! i keep thinking i should do this for the basic basing but then i just want to build and i forget. Not this time.
I am also trying to find a source for tiny plastic and/or metal dogs
Five years ago I picked up a shoebox full of somebody's Tyranids at my old FLGS, Perkins Hobbies, for $10. My son played Nids then, so I just picked it up. Yesterday, I decided to have a look. The box fell off the shelf as I pulled it. Disaster. As I picked up pieces amidst the 50 odd Termangants I saw something different toward the bottom of the pile on the carpet. A metal Drizzt, a cool D&D assassin, Asmodai, and, yes, Cypher!
I am now fixing up Cypher and asking Asmodai what he did to keep Cypher trapped in that shoebox for five years.
Painting some pipes, tabletops, last of my razor wire,A bunch of Objective Markers,And taking pictures of a bunch of stuff, which i will post on my blog/lab later if i have time and am not painting.
Organizing a e-bay purchase of a bits box, filled with about 10000 bits,it's a nightmare, but there are real gems mixed in rogue trader stuff, space hulk gretchins, tons of weapons enough for about 6 armories filled with items,up from medieval era to the year 40klol,bunch of building bits perfect for basing,night-vision goggle scopes pouches so much, will post pics in my blog later, after i put the rest in bags, until i get more organizer boxes.
In the lineup of weird tanks, tonight I've started putting together an Object 704 Tank Destroyer - or a ISU-152 with a different slope to its armour. ...More toss nobody's ever heard of.
Built a Dozen Objective Markers, different one's,not part of my green stuff project,in order to keep things interesting! later will edit said pics, will have to wait a while to see them though, the markers thread is not just for me after all,and sorted a bunch of fancy bits in order of usefulness,as well i'am cleaning up some gakky bases that came with that ebay bits box, need them bases for more markers.
I picked up some scenery materials today, some clearanced tassels to clip for strings...to make vines. Yes I could just buy string...I like clearance . Also a tub of dap crackshot, good filler for scenery bases etc.
Also toying with my Deathwing list, trying to figure out what to paint.
Sadly it didn't go well for my DA at all. I brought what I thought was a decent TAC list, and I found myself facing like 120 boyz in four squads, a couple of units of Tankbustas in trukks, Ghazzy, a regular Warboss, two Wierdboys, two Big Meks, and two Painboys. I just didn't have enough horde-clearing firepower to deal with that many bodies and I got thoroughly destroyed. I was expecting more vehicles like Morkanauts and stuff, so I had plenty of Lascannons and stuff like that, but not enough stuff with good rate of fire. It also didn't help that my dice decided to crap on me as well.
On a more positive note, I traded a few MTG cards for some store credit at my FLGS and got some used Space Wolves models with it. A unit of 5 Wolf Guard Terminators and a unit of Long Fangs. My sons of Russ grow in number by the day.
Unit of 4 hearthguard. 3 with spears and shields and 1 with an ax and shield.
I changed out the plastic spears for metal spears. My wife has a painting service and she had painted a viking warband and the guy she painted the vikings for sent along very nice(and VERY SHARP!) metal spears to replace the warlord plastic figures spears.
There were some left over and the client told my wife to keep the leftovers. I decided to use these metal spears and with xacto and pin vice, I attemped to replace the too thick plastic spears. Thought it would be easy. Mean to say, I've been converting figures since, oh, 1977.
I cut the plastic spears and then, with my pin vice and a drill bit that seemed close to the diamiter of the metal spear, I start drilling...
I get the first 3 warriors done nicely. I start the third, and I somehow tear up the figures hand and fingers. I could get the spear in the hand, but the fingers are butched. My wife looks at it and say, "the figure is too small to notice."
I NOTICED!
So I start to look for the sprue that I know I kept, because I seem to remember their were extra spear arms left over. I never throw things away. Now, I only had 1 sprue, as a friend gave me that 1 sprue so I could put togeather 4 warriors and paint them...kind of see if they did anything for me. I was'nt very sure I wanted to make a warband and play SAGA. I'm all about Blood Bowl.
So I finally find that sprue, and I look at it, and no more spears. The only thing left are 3 sling arms, an ax arm and a sword arm. What to do?
A call to my mate, and he says melee weapons can be different in a unit. YIPPEE! Because I have had fun with these first 4 figures, and I have been looking online and have ordered cresent and the cross.
So what will look more bad ass? I go with the ax arm. I had fun, even with the damaged arm. But I painted up my Norman warriors, and they just need basing.
Long story short, New games are a fun journey. I can't wait to play SAGA!
