I heard this tidbit the other day from a store manager so yadda yadda.

Damn shame, was thinking about DE for my second army, as I love the concept and the troop figures but hate the vehicles.

He isn't the Omnissiah, he's just a very haughty boy.

I'd rather wait and them get it right than rush it and have it go off half cocked.

I fear we are seeing something similar to the Squats, where the designers are having trouble marrying play style to background. Whereas Squats were given up on, Dark Eldar haven't been, so small mercies and that.

BTW, the above is sheer conjecture and opinion of my own, not to be taken as a quote from anyone or anything.

Just curious then, which is worse, the way DE seem to have been forgotten or the way they have been teasing the Chaos Dwarf players by throwing around the Hellcannon, first in SoC and now the new Warriors of Chaos book?

The News and Rumors section is all about surprises. I'd certainly hate it if we got 100 posts saying "I know something you don't know..." - malfred

Dark Eldar just haven't been well supported since the honeymoon period after 4th edition appeared. That's 10 years now, and most models on the shelves are from the few months after the game's release.

Imperial Guard are going to be the next army that is coming out early next year. After that I would like to think that it will be Dark Eldar followed by Necrons. Though in reality Necrons might be first with Dark Eldar being a Q4 release.

They still have models on the shelves where you're at? Or do you mean shelves at home?

Some independents still have models. I think one lcoal store around here had a small (floor to ceiling maybe 1-2 feet wide) section for Dark Eldar. And they opened after the DE were made mail order only.

Of course that store has gone out of business, so maybe it's not such a good example.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Seriously, I think you all will do much better if you just recognize that GW is never going to release another DE Codex.

And if you like Dark Eldar, then you should pray that GW never does a major revamp to the rules that requires all-new Codices. Because if they do, you *will* be Squatted.

GW can't come right out and say "We *hates* Dark Eldar! *KILL* Dark Eldar!" At least, not after the Squats debacle.

So GW is doing the next best thing and continually *pretending* to have an update coming, "any day now, you'll see". At some point, players should wise up, but I think GW gave them too much credit.

Actually, it's not sarcasm.

It's defeatism.

As in, I've given up hope of ever seeing GW release new DE stuff.

I'm just trying to figure out this math, as 4th ed came out in 2004 (or maybe 2005, not sure).

2008-2004 =\= 10 years.

But still, back to the OT... May 09 is only 7 months away...

There is an attitude that not having an insanely optimized, one shot, six stage, omnidirectional, inevitable, mousetrap of an assassin list army somehow means that you have foolishly wasted your life building 500 points of pure, 24 karat, hand rolled, fine, cuban fail. That attitude has been shown, under laboratory conditions, to cause cancer of the fun gland.

No, the store. Quite a selection, actually.

I think, though, that most people go for an eldar army and just up the ebil.

I'm thinking 3rd Edition then, where the Dark Eldar were introduced in the box, that was 1998.

I play DE since they got the revision in 2002. This army is still playable. LR spam can be easily countered with dark matter. Don't give up the hope.

The difference is that Orks got a lot more in the interim:
- Speed Freeks in Codex: Armageddon
- Forgeworld Battlewagon

Plus, Orks are integral to the 40k universe. *Dark* Eldar are not.

Dark Eldar was the last army I played when I quit at 3rd edition. I loved playing them and thought they were fun.

They still suck though.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

If anyone would like to wager any amount of money that the DE codex won't be released in the next two years I will take that bet. Name your price. Any amount.

Seriously, can we stop with the 'DE will never be released' crap?

Phil Kelly is writing the codex and Jes Goodwin is sculpting an entirely new line of models. Both have confirmed this fact at the last LAGD.

The DE artwork found in the new rulebook clearly shows that redesign efforts have gone into the DE line. . .they don't just let artists come in and create a new looking Raider and DE warrior design willy-nilly.

Clearly design work has gone into the line and the artwork in the book speaks to that fact.

Exactly when the project will be released is a mystery because GW doesn't talk about projects beyond 3 months anymore for the most part, but the fact remains that the project is fully underway.

OK, I'll step up for a gentleman's wager in the amount of ONE AMERICAN DOLLAR. I propose a schedule of payments as follows:
- If DE get a new Codex authored by Phil Kelly and supporting minis by Jes Goodwin within 2 years of the last LAGD, I will pay you $1 (one) dollar.
- If DE don't get any Codex before October 10, 2010 (10/10/10), you pay me $1 (one) dollar.
- Otherwise, if DE get a Codex authored by someone other than Phil Kelly or if the supporting minis are sculpted by someone other than Jes Goodwin, or the DE release more than 2 years after the last LAGD but before October 10, 2010 (10/10/10), the bet is a push.

As far as I'm concerned the DE artwork in the current 5th Edition rulebook carries no more weight than the pictures of the Hrud and Donorian Fiend in the 3rd Edition rulebook.

I think it's a mystery because GW isn't really working on anything, so they're just blowing smoke. Again. I mean, it's great that you have faith in GW, but what makes you think that *this* time, things are going to be different?

As was said before, the DE are in works for some time now, only Rick Priestly has rejected two previous redesign concepts on the grounds of something not to his liking. The design team is working on it, but Rick feels they need to do those pointy-eared rapists justice.

And there is actual proof of them working on the DE, or have people already forgotten about those WIP greens of the two Haemonculi seen at Games Day Spain? (I think it was that one)

Having personally seen a substantial share of the new models I can tell you without breaking a sweat that you are very, very wrong.

Hey Yakface, this sounds too good to be true. If Kelly (and not the column guy) works on it, we can expect a decent codex.

Well heres the thing about DE and this has been confirmed by unnamed GW employes(not redshirts) the reason they don't carry them on the shelves is their marketing strategy has gone younger in recent years. If you have a 12 year old walking into a GW store with his parents and looking at the spiky, rapey, killy De models and codex how many 12 year olds and more importantly parents are suppoting that hobby willl come back.

That said I understand that 40k in the early days more than now was/is a dark and brutal world where killing is first and foremost, but the company has adopted a more family friendly approach in the past few years.

I believe DE will get a new dex, i think it will be more family friendly, the models will not be so spiky and evil and it will come out. Its evidenced by the fact that they are putting out WD stuff and other stuff for the DE that they want to continue with the army, that combined with the seemingly huge outrage against squats disappearing and a lack of non MEQ armies if you count the SM releases seperately, I think that there will be a new dex.

And yet the still have the spiky, rapey, killy chaos models and demons with bare boobies exposed sitting on the store shelves.
