Ok, so I had made an order at a local shop here for six of those 5 gaunt boxes and some other stuff not long ago (30 gaunts total). They have a 25% off deal going on all the time too (which is amazing) so it cost me 36 bucks for the 30 gaunts. Anyway, time passes and they get the stuff in. I stopped by today and picked up the box. I open the box and see everything I ordered except for one slight difference. Instead of six boxes with 5 gaunts each...I have six boxes of the gaunt/termagaunt units (16 models per box, 96 total). I had to do a double take, open the box, make sure what the box said is what I got, and I even went so far as to check my credit card statement to make sure I was charged only 36 bucks for these.
So now I wonder....what should I do? Take it back and have them order the right product? Pay the difference between these and the ones I ordered? Or just keep it and laugh maniacally? The shop I purchased it from knows practically nothing about 40k. They have no tourneys, no one that plays, not even any tables, but I know a mess up like this will probably cost them money while GW reaps the profit (maybe about 25% markup for retailers?). So what should I do? Keep it or correct the issue?
By the way. Even at a 25% discount, I was given about 157 dollars worth of product for 36 bucks.

Yes, in fact when I walked in they were just taking it out of the box. All unopened and still factory sealed.

If the shop sold it to you at 36 bucks and you bought it from them in good faith, then the error is with them, not you. Keep the gaunts, laugh maniacally and get painting!

I'd let them know. Being a small business owner, mistakes do happen, but that mistake is going to cost someone pretty dearly. For all you know, they did order the right SKUs for you, but gave you the wrong ones out of the box.
Were I in the store owner's position, I'd probably either eat the cost and thank you for bringing the matter to my attention (my cost of education) or give you a pretty good discount for being a good samaritan.

I don't think any shop is dumb enough to charge you less for something than what they paid for it. It's more likely that GW sent them the big boxes while charging for the small ones. I know two LGS owners and they both say the GW mail trolls are idiots.

Now, I have ordered stuf from a former not so friendly FLGS and did just what you did. Get my box, pay for it, and take it home - all on good faith that everything is in there. Well, I was missing 1/3 of my order!! So I promptly turn right around and go back and talk to the owner. He then explains to me that under no circumstances was he going to pay me back and that I should have checked.
You see... you have probably been screwd before on something. This is just Karma's way of saying its all good in the world.

I'm not exactly sure where the mistake happened, but when I went to order they gave me their order book and I wrote down the SKU's straight from their catalog. They don't know much about the game so I always make sure that they know exactly what I am ordering. I am also fairly certain that they did not get any of the 5 gaunt boxes in as I did have a peek at their order that came in and my stuff was the only nid stuff I saw. There could be another box though.
The more I think about it the more I am thinking that it could be GW's mess up.

Clearly this is an issue that is bothering you. In fact I'm willing to bet that if you don't take them back, every time you pull them out to play you will get a nice little twinge of guilt. So you know what to do, they right thing. Take them back and explain that you think they made a mistake. Make sure you mention it was "they who made the mistake". Granted this may be a little bit of a manipulation of their pride on your part but it is the truth ;-) . One of 2 things will happen, either they will say thanks and give you the correct product or they will say to just keep them. If they take them back make sure to give em a little nudge about a possible reward for saving them money. If they say keep them, then your conscience is clear and you can enjoy your luck.

IF he walks in and says "I didn't order these" the FLAG will most likely take them off him... even if it was GWs mistake...
GW can suck up the loss...
If it was the stores mistake and If it's bothering his conscience...
he should call the store and ask "did you have any problems with the order?... don't give details.
They will say yes or no...
If they ask why? axyl should just say "because I got a few more models in each box?" "are you missing models or cash If it was GWs mistake I'm keeping them!"
That way he can tell by their response If they are trying it on?
If they say it's all good, then it's all good...

Were it GW sending me something via mail order and they'd made that mistake, I'd leave it. But as this is a FLGS and you probably want yuor FLGS to remain your FLGS, I'd go in with the boxes and let them know.
One of four things will happen:
1. He'll take them back.
2. He'll offer you a price to buy the difference, maybe even at a discount for being honest.
3. He'll let you keep them for nothing for being honest.
4. He'll call the cops and you'll go to jail forever. Hope you like men.

I second this viewpoint. Small business owners aren't stupid, and invoices quite clearly point out how much they paid for x product. I think it's much more likely that GW screwed the pooch and, not knowing anything about the hobby models, your FLGS simply threw you what they thought you ordered.
Even if this is not the case, retailers typically mark product up 2-2.5x the wholesale cost. So even if the store made the mistake, they are certainly not losing money off the deal, they are simply making less. Depending on how much shipping cost, they still made money off of you. Just not as much. It'd be like a fast food restaurant charging your credit card $0.35 for a soda they normally sell at $1.35, but in actuality costs them only $.05 in raw material.
Regardless:
1. You are not stealing money from the store
2. You got a deal and nobody's getting hurt by it

Well, you could do some investigation on your own first:
Visit the store and see if they have the boxes that you ordered on the shelf. If so, then you know a mistake was made and can bring it to their attention in good faith, taking home what you paid for. If the items are not there, you can then inquire if there was a problem with the order, hoping to clarify any inconsistencies.
Remember, Dharma/Karma works both ways: payment for the deeds of the past/present and payment for the deeds of the future. Only the PTB (the powers that be) can tell if what you've gotten is reward for good behavior now or a test for reward/punishment in the future...

Well here is the update:
I gave the shop a call to ask them if there was anything unusual about the order as my order was not exactly what I ordered, but I said I didn't really have a problem with what I got. Now I must reiterate...this shop knows absolutely NOTHING about 40k. I honestly wonder why they carry it all, but they said they would check it out and see if they were charged more for what they thought they were getting. If it like most of the times I deal with them though...they may either just forget about it or just not call me back...I honestly wonder why I still order there sometimes.
...oh right....25% off.

I'd say it comes down to what a person's personal integrity and honor are worth to them. Are they the kind of person that could be bought off for a little over of $100 worth of something or not?
Like was said earlier, it seems like you have some measure of difficulty with just sitting back and not doing something about a possible mistake.
I'd say go with your better feelings like you seem to be doing and continue to follow up with the store.
In my own case, I had a lot of killer terrain given to me by someone who had commissioned to paint it for a local store, but had some serious issues come up in his life. As a result, the stuff sat around unpainted until it came my way almost a couple of years later.
I took it back to the store and explained the circumstance of it getting into my possession. The manager said that I could keep it, free of charge.
I'm not saying they'll let you keep the stuff, but whether they do or not, you'll have a clear concience.

Some of you people absolutely disgust me.
A MORAL person doesn't just keep the frigging models. He approaches the store owner with HONESTY AND INTEGRITY. If the owner turns around and lowers his moral standards, SO BE IT. That doesn't mean you should lower yours before he gets the chance to lower his.
If it was HIS mistake, he should get the UNOPENED models back, so he can return them for credit or resale. If it was GW's fault, GW should get the chance to tell you to keep them (what they'd PROBABLY do), or ask the FLGS to ship 'em back.
You people telling him to keep the dang models should re-examine your moral compasses.

FLGS may not be able to support that kind of loss, especially if it's something they do more than once. Even if they did screw up the order that's a lot of money they may have lost. You want them still to be in business in a few years time still offering 25% discounts? Give the kits back, support them.
There's also the matter of self worth. How cheap are you? You really want to throw away your integrity for the sake of just over $100?

The store didn't lose any money.
If it was GW's fault, they lost no money, and it would actually cost GW more than the product is worth to them to have it shipped back. This is the main reason that companies are willing to let you keep mistakes in your favor. Shipping costs represent a HUGE cut to the bottom line.
If they charged incorrectly for their invoice, they still lost no money because of retail markup over wholesale, which I doubt as being the scenario because small business owners are not stupid rocks and wouldn't charge less for a product than what they got invoiced originally.
I don't see a moral dilemma.

So you start out by saying that the store didnt lose any money and then continue with the "if it was GW´s fault" statement.
Uh yeah. If, is a pretty big IF. Maybe it wasnt GW´s fault, but rather the store that simply charged the boxes wrong.
Of course, IF it really was GW´s mistake, the store should have no problem with him keeping the boxes. But if it was the stores mistake, they should at least know and either get the chance to fix it or let you keep em anyways since they screwed up.
Oh and not losing any money but therefore not making any profit doesnt help a little store the least bit either.

I think the point here isn't really is the store taking a loss or not, or if GW screwed up...it's the fact that you feel you ripped off the store, even if it's their mistake. I agree with the folks that say the only wasy to handle this is to honesty and see what the store does. If I was the store I'd appreciate any attempt to fix a mistake I missed and probably let you keep what you got, especially if it was GW's goof. If they don't and demand the product or the extra cash, hand it backm get your refund and never go to that shoip again, 25% discount be damned. You can find another store, or but off the web.
I'd also like to point out that the "keep the loot and screw the store" attitude seems to run opposite of the "support the LGS" mantra that gamers of all stripes repeat. Taking advantage of the store's mistakes will kill it as quickly as anything. I have no LGS, and I refuse to go to the one that is closest to me because 1) their customer service sucks and 2) everyone who plays there (with a couple of exceptions) is more interested in winning all the time than having fun with the hobby. My other choice is a bit further away but they know how to treat the customer and everyone I've ever played there was very laid back and cool, even in tournaments. Guess which one will become my Fnot-soLGS?

Oh come on, moral, disgusting? These are a bit strong for $100 worth of models.
You want disgust, just think about how much people charge for small lumps of plastic and metal and intellectual property on fantasy creations. Think how much markup the middlemen put on other people's creations.
I don't think this is anything to get upset about. Either the satisfaction that you got more than you paid for outweighs the perceived guilt that maybe a middleman got screwed by GW, or maybe GW didn't make quite as much profit, or it does not.
Some of you people need to get your priorities right: sure, have a moral compass, but save it for stuff that really matters. Where is that moral compass when you're fantasizing about games that glorify war?

Wait, what? Sorry, too busy daydreaming about the blood of my enemies.
Ethically, to ease your conscience, tell the store owner.
Pragmatically, perhaps the store owner realizes the mistake later on and has an inkling
that it's you. So suddenly he knows that something went wrong.

If it were me in your shoes, I would have pointed out the error the same day I picked them up. In this case, I'd take all the boxes back, with your receipt, point out what you wanted, point out what you got, tell him that while you like the fact that you got more than you wanted, you feel obligated to make sure the store didn't get taken.
It takes a pretty big man to not take advantage of a situation. If it so happens that the owner says, keep them, then you are set. If he asks for them back, return them and make sure you get the amount you originally paid for.
I ask this simple question. If the rolls were reversed, what would you have the other person do? The golden rule applys, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.. In this case, you've only taken advantage of the game store as you paid for 5 boxes of 6 gaunts and recieved 5 boxes of 16 gaunts..
The owner might let you keep 2 boxes of 16 (total 32 gaunts, you get a bonus) I'd imagine it all depends on what he was charged for each of the boxes.. perhaps the staff didn't realize there were two guant boxes and just assumed the 5 boxes of 16 were yours.. Although to be honest, most FLGS don't go around ordering 5 boxes of anything (except starter boxes around Christmas time) as they tend to get dusty on the shelves..

Nothing yet. Called a little late last night and they did not have an invoice or any sort of reciept in the box that it shipped with. They will need to make a couple calls to see exactly what went down.
I am definitely trying to work with the shop to see whats up and why I got one box instead of the other, but unfortunately I can't just hang out up there while they figure it all out (a 9-6 job sees to that). In addition the shop isn't actually open today, but I do have a way to contact one of the owners if i don't hear anything back about mid-day today.
