I used to collect Space Marines back in 3rd edition but then stopped for some random reason. But some months ago I decided to start again and started to collect both Orks and Space Marines. Some days ago i decided to start taking pictures of my latest work, so I might as well keep showing them for you guys. Sadly I am quite busy as I'm about to move and also got loads of work to do. Which means I might not update this too often, but i will try to update as often as I can. Keep in mind that these models are some of the first ones that I've painted in 10 years, but all feedback is welcome. Space Marine Captain: Front: Back: Space Marine Terminator Sergeant: Front (sry, its abit out of focus): Space Marine Tactical Marine: Front: Back: Ork Painboy & Orderly: Front: Back: Ork Killa Kan: Front 1: Front 2: Ork Bomb-Squigg: Front: Following miniatures that I'm planning to paint: 20 Tactical Marines (still needs to get more details + fix some details) Marneus Calgar + Honour Guard (only basecoated so far) 2x Dreadnoughts (still needs detail work) Predator (only basecoated so far) Please share your thoughts

If I can make a suggestion on your checkerboards. It looks like you started with a black base and added the white checks, which resulted in a fairly thick and noticeable application of white. Reverse the process. Lay down a base of Dheneb Stone followed by white, then user some watered down black (or a fine pen) and draw your grid. Fill in the black squares and you should get something that is much smoother.

Yeah I wasn't too pleased with the purity seals myself, I'll change them to some other papery color
What kind of highlights would you say he needs?

What do you guys think?
I'd want the dreadnought ccw to look more used and torn, what could i do to accomplish that?

I think that a lot of your models need highlighting. The color on them looks really flat right now. Nice bases, by the way, I like that backpack on the Killa Kan's base.

Nice!
I see slight depth on all the models but try this and see if you like it.
white cloth + gold areas- sepia wash (SMcapt - front pain boy mask and bandages.)
silver+ SMcapt cloak (devlan mud wash) gives guns more contrast and a suttle shading on the cloak.
I know people are gonna say Badab Black but its really up to you. I just figure after looking at your paint style you would like the suttle changes of the above recipe, while badab black can only be "suttle" on the darker colors.
Good luck with the move and hope to see you back on Dakka soon!

Resurrection
Have been really busy lately and haven't had time to do much painting.
On the positive side, gotten more friends to play 40k so most of my painting time have gone out to play the game.
(Also have gone through 2 wrist surgeries which have made me unable to paint as much as I'd want, playing is easier on the wrist)
I've started to paint some of my tanks (please note they aren't finished yet )
Rhino :
2 Rhinos :
Sergeant Reltih of the 2nd Tactical Squad :
Land Raider Redeemer :
Assault Terminator :
I've painted all of them except the assault terminator which my girlfriend painted (the first mini shes ever painted).
I'll hopefully be doing more highlighting and fixing the smaller details that are missing on the tanks when I've got more time.
EDIT:
I've sold my ork army so Smurfs are all your going to get sadly
Hopefully in the far future I'll be able to collect IG or Tau But for now I'll waste all the extra amount of cash on more smurfs ;P

slightly offended by relith but oh well. you have alot of skill and you paint is neatly applied however your colours are slightly flat. i would reccomend some of the new washes (THEY ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and a tad of highlighting. for highlighting use a lighter colour than the basecoat and just applie it to the raised areas and edge
good work

Actually, I was just using greenstuff to make hair for my sergeant when all of a sudden i felt I've seen the face before, so I just added a mustache for him.
Also for the people taking offence, I really didn't intend for the model to offend you, sorry if you feel that way. Its just for fun
Edit:
And now people are getting offended by my apology.
Its just a game, a tiny plastic model, its not hitler reincarnate! I've been using some of the washes on my latest models and they've been great. (Badab black on the assault terminators thunder hammer for example)
But I've yet to master the art of highlighting, I will try it out on some models when i got time to paint again.

I have to admit that I totally passed over Sgt. Strangelove at first glance, but coming back now I laughed so hard I almost shat my pants. (Yes that's my past tense for 5h1+)
I'm not actually sure how strict the swearing rules are here so I'm being careful, but i figure that no one can get angry at me for my own made up word, despite what it implies, even if people are that tightly wound around here...
But no, I love him, and the rest of thge army. I am finding Hitler's power fist a bit lengthy, there's no way any self-respecting SM would go around carrynig a thing like that around. Apart from htat, fantastic model, fantastic army. Keep up the good work.

Yes the powerfist is sadly misplaced a bit, I'll have to see if i'm going to redo him. At the moment I've been playing more then usual, and I have units that aren't painted to table top quality yet, so thats my top priority now. So the fist is gonna have to look like that some time still :/
(I'm guessing your talking about my many layers of gray/whiteish/white paints that make it so thick that you can see a layer difference from the hatch)
Actually I kinda liked it myself, feels like they slapped on a sheet of white metal on the hatches or something. Overall I'm quite happy with the result so might keep it that way. Actually I have to agree that I'm not so satisfied with the eyes, but the thing is, I'm a so called "rattlesnake" (how I can paint these guys at all is a miracle) and I have really really huge problem with getting eyes to look good.
My hands aren't steady enough to do such small details properly. Any tips and advice on how to fix the eyes would be greatly appreciated.
Also please keep in mind that all models are just painted to fill a table top standard, once I've painted all my marines to the standard shown here, I'll start to fix them up better with highlightings and such.

Rest your hands on books when doing detail work and thin the paint slightly too as you don't need much paint when doing things like eyes. The eyes definately need some white on them, maybe a touch of white at the corner of each eye.

Been doing some terrain lately as well. Here are the first versions of the pieces : Wall - Front : Wall - Back : Sacred Grounds: Objective Markers: Gold stash with some other remains: Flesh eating plant: Still working on them. Thinking about adding some glyphs on the sacred grounds pieces stones. And fine tuning the amount of grass on the stone wall. Also going to add sand/grass on the base of the flesh eating plant obj marker. Thoughts?

The best way to steady your hand is to rest your painting hand on your holding hand.
Hold your base with say your left hand rest the fleshy part of your painting hand to the fleshy part of your holding hand kind of like praying with a brush in one hand and the fig in the other.
That steadies the shakes.
For the actual eye paint the eye black then white leaving a small line of black around the eye then cheat by putting the dot in with a fineline pen.

Okay so I've been irritated that i chose to do gold rims on the ultramarines (as its too common). Then whilst reading the codex in the bathroom (like always), I saw a sweet looking sergeant with ice blue rims. So I've redone my army with ice blue rims. Did one normal assault marine and my assault marine sergeant, also tried to learn how to do highlighting on them. Assault Marines Also did some highlighting on my Captain as I had to redo his shoulders anyways. Captain - Front Captain - Back I got an old (from -93) chaplain from a friend, which wasn't that great painted. So i removed his paint with some nail polish remover. And as I already had a chaplain, I wanted a Librarian to my army. So I decided to convert it from the chaplain. Mind you this is the first "bigger" convertation that I have ever done, so be gentle Also, I do know the psychic hood isnt a typical "hood" but I wanted it to be one, and who knows whats under there anyways! (Wanted a DA look) Librarian - Front Librarian - Back/Side
