So here is my first attempt at green stuff. I figured Nurgle would be the easiest because its mostly dead skin and rotting flesh. So I created this little good looking guy. I'm playing him as a Summoned Greater Daemon for my Nurgle Space Marine Army. I figured for 100 points with his toughness and attacks he's well worth it. My buddy Mr. Kinghorn suggested him and I'm giving it a try. (shameless K. Kinghorn plug here, or he'll cry)

Anyway, let me know what you guys think. He took about 2 days to sculpt and another full 8 hour session to paint. I used the upper body from a Soul Grinder and cut him off at the waist. I then used about 38" of green stuff off a roll to build him up. Some bits and some wires and this is what I came up with. Let me know your thoughts guys.

Thanks

Romeo

He looks great. I like the sludge buckets on his back... Were they inspired by the recent Forge World DP or were they your own idea?

The drums are totally a forgeworld idea. When I saw the new deamon prince I had to do something like it. I already ordered the new model. Can't wait for it to release. Thanks for the kind words guys.

I like this more than the new GW one.

Looks like the fat nurgle has decided to buff up and get serious.

sweet job - great conversion & great paintjob.
BTW you can get Green stuff in big tubes too. costs way less (per gram) and you don't get that anoying set part where the 2 colours meet.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Very nice conversion and painting! Realization of concept = Win. This is really a very nice figure to see and any time you put it down on the table you are going to get compliments. Your browns greens transition and blend well and I like the pink edges of the open sores and festerings.

My one friendly critique: I love the pint job and it is done quite well. I do think it kind of blends together(not really bad from a nurgly point o view LOL) and could have used a little bit more in the way of deeper contrast in darks and lights, espescially on the weapons and in the recesses of his nurgly flesh rolls. Right now the sludge cans and the open sore with corpses really stand out and I think the weapons and the main body could have used a little bit more of that contrast.

Its not a big thing, but that is the area I am working on improving in my models and I notice it a bit more than I used to in others now as well.

Great job and definatly post again if you do more along this theme!

I love the model! Great work and a fantastic fitting paint job. I'm not a fan of the goo drums, or the fact that he doesn't have legs or another way of getting round. However, I love the cut open area with skulls and bones in.
Great work overall. Well done.

Looks like a huge steaming pile of gak.... Amazing use of the Soulgrinder torso. Very well pulled off. The only minor nitpick is the sludge coming out of the barrels, you might have been better drizzling tinted PVA glue onto them to give them a more translucent/wet look, right now it just looks like a slightly less awesome part of your model...

holy crap on my face! That thing was really nicely done. I normally dont look at the pics first but that one really stole my eyes. I didnt realize that the claw was from the soulgrinder/defiler kit until you mentioned it. Pretty amazing for being your first time with GS

ZandrisIV - I know what you mean. It was a late night on Sunday and I needed to just get it finished. I took the easy way out and slapped on some ard coat. Next one will get wet effects to do it right.

InyokaMadoda - I really was going for a slug look. I thought about legs but it just was played out with fat nurgly models already out there. I just figured nobody has really done a slug daemon so I went for it. (Notice the slug slime on his base in the area he slid around)

the assasin of night - I really just mixed a bunch of the GW washes and dry brushing. I love the GW green, devlin mud, and red wash. Mixing them up in pooling them together gets some really interesting colors. I then just dried brushed various colors in layers to give the model some depth. The biggest tip is to not be scared to add paint. You can always dry brush more color over it if it does not look perfect the first time.

Ultrafool - It really was my first attempt at building a model from scratch with green stuff. I have done some converting and adding of parts and pieces in small amounts but nothing this big. I do have a bit of a background in sculpting from college.

wyomingfox - One thing that I have noticed over the past year is my speed in painting. With every figure I paint I seem to get a bit faster. I think its just the practice of knowing what colors will do once they are on the model. This can only happen if you paint a whole bunch. My only advice to help people speed up is paint more. Think of it this way. When you first painted on a black wash over chainmail how long did it take. It probably took you a while to test it out on a small section than come back and put a little more until you realized that it was cool to just slap it all over and it would turn out fine. That's the basics of all painting. Once you know what paints do what, the rest is easy.

bubber - please pm me this link to the place that sells the larger tubs of green stuff. I would love to pick some up. Thanks

Guys, I can't say thanks enough. These posts are really motivating me to really do up my Nurgle army. I'll have the whole army painted and posted in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks

Romeo
