I was just leafing through my order history and noticed that the Cadian box o' 20 is no longer available through direct sales. If you still want to stock up then you should hurry over to your friendly neighborhood gaming store. Catachans seem to still be available for now.

You gotta respect GW. Economic crisis, competitors lowering prices, other companies releasing plastic kits for pennies, and they have the sheer balls to jack the price of a 5 year old kit up, and still not include anything close to the useful load out.
When Orks came out, they were repacked to be slightly more per model, but included all of the options. IG, which are only 1pt a model less, have fewer upgrade options, are smaller, have fewer base weapon options, and don't get the bonus nob. For the same price. And people wonder why there are so few IG players.
It's not GW's prices that I'm complaining about, just the fairly specific way the IG are getting hosed here.

Which is why I'll probably use some other manufacturer's minis for my troops.
Orks, thankfully can be gotten en masse from the AOBR box, no such luck for the IG players.

Yeah, curse GW for keeping the price of Guard troops boxes so low for all those years and not increasing the price to match the plastic troops from similar armies. They sure do have some cheek keeping Guard models the cheapest in the range for so long.
P.S. But yes, no re-cut on the troops is crappy. Seems GW have shoved all the extra bits onto the new Command Squad sprues and expect us to buy multiples of those for us to customise the other units in our army, instead of them spending money on recutting new troops sprues. Maybe this is a new cost-cutting strategy from the bean counters?

Yes, how dumb of GW to have the old boxes of $35 for 20 (120 points, or 100 now) guardsmen. Now we have the new codex version, $22 for 50 points. GW was really ripping itself off before, giving us guard players 120 points per box when Eldar got 120 points per box, Marine players only got 150 (if you count off the special weapons) and Necrons got a mere 216+. 100 points was much too much to pay only $35 for.

Look, GW prices are a fact of life, and there's little reason to complain about them in general. Comparing what Orks got to what IG are getting though, is simply staggering. Orks get more models (the bonus nob), nob options, both legal special weapons, and both slugga and shoota arms. Guardsmen do get GLs and Flamers, but only get lp/ ccw options for the sgt, no special body for the sgt, and still got a price increase. One of the reasons IG were always the cheapest in terms of cost per model is simply because they require the most models. An 1850 all infantry force (a relativley competitive build in 4th) could easily run 160 models, or eight full boxes of cadians.
Admittedly, Marines have rhinos in the "cheap in pts but not in dollars" bin, but the Chimera isn't' too far behind now.

Points/Dollar doesn't factor into the way they think about these things at all. Two miniatures of the same size and complexity can easily be different point costs, but due to similar production costs, will have the same MSRP. If they priced things per point horde armies would destroy their profit margins.

yeah,
I don't think it's a simple as that!
They aren't a evil company, run by a tyrant overlord!
From what I understand..
When they make a model they have overheads.
The miniture designers and engineers making the mold, are getting paid a salary long before the mini is released these overheads need to be recouped.
The over heads are going to be similar for a Elite choices miniture and a Troop choices miniture.
But Players will buy a large number of Troops so the overheads can be spread out = cheaper minis.
But Players will buy a small number of Elites so their overheads are condensed = expensive minis.
This also helps keep elite choices elites via natural Wallet Hammer... which is a good thing, I guess, I'd hate to see Terminator armies account for half of all SM arimes.
Plus a profit has to be made, which I'm glad they do, I'd hate to see them go out of buisness and my hobby die out.
But If you guys really think GW is ripping you off... Stop Buying Their Product!!

@ Panic
I don't think GW is evil.
Of course they need to make money on their stuff. People buy less elites, so elites are expensive. It kinda sucks, but I don't have a problem with this. None of the points you are making I am opposed to. Me saying the fact that GW makes more elite units more expensive, does not equal me whining and bitching and thinking that GW is an evil money stealing corporation of darkness. No need to rant at me and tell me to just stop buying if I'm so terribly upset (I'm not).
Taking an old boxed set, cutting it in half, and reducing the price by a third without adding any new stuff is not okay with me. The orks box was less models, and not the same % less cost, but it had extra options, weapons, nob gear, etc. The guard box is just straight up getting the shaft, a 25% increase in cost with no benefit. I personally will not be buying any of the new type of box, and I feel bad for guard players that start up in reaction to the new book coming out and have to pay even more than now, where guard is so much higher in cost than other armies, to get 2 troops choices. The least they could have done would be to put some heavy weapons in the box.

yeah,
I get your point and I'm sorry for the knee jerk reaction, it's was more about the general tone of this thread...
And while on the face of it there is a price increase per model.
I think this is a better way to go about it, as opposed to just upping the price of the box.
It also make the packs easier to buy in smaller ammounts?

Im abit confused about people rushing to buy the current 20 men cadian box.
You guys dont need or want the new command set / sentinel / hvy weapon box at all? Im too lazy to convert into USD but as CDN its like this.
20men ( $40 )
command (30)
hvy weapon ( 40)
sentinel (30 ) ---------total $140 out of $115 battle force
so unless you have no use for the ones i listed, battle force is still cheaper no?

Great choice that. No money but want to make an IG army. Palm meet face.
But GW IS just trying to help you out by breaking the boxes in half and making those ten guys $2.20 each instead of the $1.75 they inflicted on us earlier. So we shouldn't be so harsh on them.

Actually, it makes PLENTY of sense. Know why?
They didn't have to design or make a new sprue!
That means no new plastic mold, which means that $10,000+ investment could be made elsewhere...like, say, the plastic Valkyrie!
Orks got so many goodies because their entire range was overhauled, which meant that the entire sprue was redone.

So it isn't the increase before even being released from $50 to $58 that was "justified" by " GW had to make a whole new mold!", you really think that the Valk needed more help to get made? In the form of more expensive basic infantry? The battlewagon got a huge new sprue and it isn't $58, and they didn't make basic orks more expensive, they made them less.
