My wife and I recently took a holiday to Scotland and I managed to convince her that we needed to spend a night in Nottingham on the way up, so that I could go and visit Warhammer World. Not bad eh? So, I thought I'd share some photos with you all. Unfortunately I only had my phone with me, so the photos are rubbish quality, but at least it will give you an idea of what is there if you are planning a visit. Also, apologies for some of the photos being the wrong way round! I uploaded them all to Dakka and thought I would be able to rotate them here. By the time I realised that I couldn't find a way of doing that, I'd uploaded so many that I couldn't be bothered too rotate them all on my computer and then upload them again. So, all together now, tilt that head....
My impressions of Warhammer World were that it is exactly the venue you think it is. There's a superb miniatures display room, with (I think) every current GW mini on display there, although I must say that I was disappointed to see only a handful of Forgeworld models. Also, quite a lot of the models (maybe a fifth) were out for "photographing", but there were still plenty to drool over. One of the nicest aspects of this is that many of the models were recognisable as the minis that are on the front of the boxes that you buy in the shops, so it was really good to see the level of detail up close and personal. There are also many classic models on display as well as some much-photographed dioramas that we've all seen. Again, just amazing to get up close to them though and see the level of intricate detail.
The gaming room is huge, with many tables. I didn't have time to get a game in, but thought I could watch a game or two that other people were playing. Unfortunately though, it was only kids playing when I was there, with the only adults packing their games up. Ho hum. There was one particular gaming board of note though, that I know has been discussed on here already. I have included a picture below of it. It was a superb board, about 10 foot by 6 foot, with a huge defensive position on one end, up a hill (which is difficult to make out on the picture), with bombed out tanks and titan parts all over the battlefield. Just beautiful. There was also another great table with a vast building dominating the table, that was an ork bashed imperium building, all made out of the standard building sprues. I've included piccies of that too.
The shop was like any other, with a fairly standard range, although it was nice to see a few Blood Bowl and BFG things in. Again, disappointingly, no Forgeworld stuff to buy. I know it's a mail order company, but it would make sense to me to have some for sale in their flagship arena.
Anyway, on to the photos and there are a lot of them. I hope you enjoy! Of particular note to the older gamers out there.....look out for the photo of the zoats and Thrud!

Yep, it's run by them. It's in the same building complex as their Head Office and you can peek through the windows at what the developers and eavy metal team are up to!

Nice pics... It's changed alot since I went last, too.
One question though.... Where are the big diorama/displays?
I remember one big room with the whole ultramarines chapter, that dark eldar one (can't remember the name), Assault on the imperial palace, battle at Big Toof river and that WHFB one with the undead attacking the town (can't remember the name of that either).

No the marine doesnt, I have a pic somewhere of me humping its leg due to a bout of drunkeness in Bugmans, the marine just gave me a cheeky smile and turned its head.

No big dioramas there, just the smaller ones I posted here.
I forgot to say that there was also an exhibition of artwork from The Empire, but it was quite lacklustre and arranged in a "Let's just shove it in that corner" fashion.
Thanks for all the 'nice pictures' comments. I thought they were a bit rubbish actually....

It's a proper bar as far as I'm aware. I don't think the game designers would be happy with orange juice at lunch time.

Yep, I wondered about that. According to http://demonwinner.free.fr/uk/, it was Neil Thomason, who also won it in 1996. Maybe they just thought his entry was good enough to win, but just not good enough to remember... Automatically Appended Next Post: Wrexasaur wrote:OMG MY NECK!!!

The room with all the miniatures in it he has pictures of is the same room. The "Museum" changes regularly(I forgot the exact frequency they do it at) to keep it interesting for repeat visitors. When I went, they had the life-size Terminator helmet, Storm Bolter, and Shuriken Pistol on display.

Been kind of well documented on this site recently that GW are getting a bit sloppy at cleaning up their mold lines. As for the statue, I'm not sure I'd like to meet the modelling knife required for that job

Awesome photos! I remember when GW had a live feed to the gaming room at Warhammer World on their website so drunk nerds on the other side of the planet could watch their brethren game. I lived in Durham for a year, but was too broke to go anywhere, let alone warhammer world. It definitely inspired me to paint something today.
Top tip to overseas visitors you might want to check out the Imperial War Museum in London if you go to the UK. The war museum in Paris is pretty awesome too.
