I love my orks, the current range is bloody beautiful. But topknots, they just don't fit for my army, I can't see any Blood Axe walking out in front of da komissarz or da kaptinz wif a wussy 'air do stickin up like dat. Neither for the Goffs (I think a goff with that stuff stuck to his head would have a life expectancy of about 11seconds), nor the deffskulls or evil suns and not really bad moons either.

Topknots and such has always meant Snakebite to me, I've been chopping them off all the easy heads to do that with, there are some others where the topknot is very annoyingly moulded onto the head it's self and those ones will just have to be replaced altogether.

Do other ork players just go with it? Think it is in keeping with the other clans?

I know of a space marine player who hates bare faces and will only use fully helmeted ones and I remember a tyranid army I saw with no 'feeder tentacles' even on the lictor (head converted to a tyranid warrior with the enhanced senses from the carnifex kit) since the owner didn't think they looked suitably in keeping with the rest of the 'family'.

Is there that one piece you automatically find yourself never using or looking to convert or entirely replace?

Hear, hear! No topknots for anyone! Well, I've got them on the grots, but they're supposed to be a savage blighter mob, so yeah! I have no problem making new ears or whatever for my boys, as long as those stupid topknots are gone!

I only use helmeted heads in my Marine army. Specifically, nothing but beaky heads. What can I say? I'm old-school.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I dislike the loinclothes you get in the various chaos sets, they usually are difficult to position and don't add much to the model. Fill that extra space with skulls, you can never have too many skulls!

The tow hooks on the Rhino, mostly because they only give me one damn tow hook on the sprue. There are those other two pieces that are almost tow hooks, but even then I still only have 3 pieces. Not to mention where the hell am I supposed to logically put these on the back of the Rhino that's not on the back hatch or imposing on it?

I hate ork heads w/helmets. Goofy looking all of them. All my orks are bare headed, but no topknots either (those get used on flame weapons however for fire effects)

For me it's the...clown hair? I'm not sure exactly how to describe it, but I play both Dark Eldar and Space Wolves and both armies have a hair design that I guess looks like they're posing in front of a giant windfan set by their feet and it's sending their hair straight up and back.

Both armies have this style.

Good gravy I'm praying if the lines are redone they'll quietly scoot that particular look the way of the sickle-clip bolters. (of course then that hair would probably become old school retro and then I'd want to use it.)

I don't like top knots either for my Orks. There are a few Warriors of Chaos helmets that never make it to the battlefield in their generic state. The one with horns that meet over the head with the little skull in the middle. Also there are a couple with really bad horns that get snipped off.

Add me to the list of folks that hate the ork topknots. I have one on a grot, but otherwise, those get lopped right off.

I also try to shave/cut/file the random metal dags off the new ork plastics. I've ranted about it before, I simply don't like the random triangles bolted onto any clean surface. Visual noise, they are. Gotta go.

One of the topknot heads from the standard boyz kit is one of the best lookin faces there is (open mouth and yelling) but the other one, it's the one from the lootas heads and the black reach heads, closed mouth, teeth sticking upwards on one side and the topknot comes all the way down one side, I don't even look to clean that one up, they are all just gonna get replaced with ordered bitz.

I always avoid the Marine heads that just have the re-breather on them. I hate those heads. For Guard it's the one with the busted chinstrap. For Chaos it's the same as the Marines - no re-breathers.

I do the same thing. What's the point of even having power armour if you're just going to leave the helmet off and get shot in the face.

With my Cadians I use the John Wayne head (the one with a frowny face and the chinstrap undone) as little as possible. If I weren't already pressed for heads I'd avoid using the hatless sergeant head too. There's also one set of lasgun arms that I try to avoid because I don't like the pose. If I could get away with it I'd avoid using that one set of legs that don't like standing up on their own so you have to hold the model together while the glue dries. Half the lasguns lack bayonets so I clip the bayonets off the other half for uniformity. I also tinker with the belt pouches. I go to the effort of slicing the pieces apart, putting the ammo pouch on the left side, the canteen on the right side, and discarding the combat knife. I also don't use the vox caster or the vox head. With my vehicles I leave most of the pretty bits off - chains, boxes, barrels. I left the lasguns on my chimeras as simple portholes.

Got to admit it, NONE of my orks have topknots, it's the first thing that gets lopped of and filed flush. Even though orks are meant to decorate themselves, I don't really see them using the fluff explanation for the topknots (you know, they encourage 'hair squigs' to bite onto thier heads to give them hair).

The other thing I hate about the sprues are the helmets with a fur trim around them, those always get filed off/replaced as well

Oh God, I'm glad it's not just me. Those topknots are lame, and are always the first thing to go,

Also, I took all the bayonets off my Cadians: I figured if the whole squad didn't fix bayonets, I didn't want one or two with them.

I hate those dumb top knots. I hacked a few off from the AOBR kit and didn't even bother with fixing the ears... battle damage from all da scrapes they get to. Yeah!!

I also never use the mongol fuzzy helmet heads. I have been working on a way to trim or file it off but haven't tried real hard yet. Too many other projects to work on.

I hate topknots too. None of my chaos marines have topknots or horned helmets, and none of my orks have topknots.

I also don't like pointy-hat guardians, which is why my eldar army has no guardians in it. Leave the civilians at home and let the soldiers do the fighting...

I do confess to using the SM rebreather heads for sarges and command types, but that is mostly for visual difference.

Same here. I am deathly afraid to paint a human face. Helmets are just so much easier.

I actually like the topknot on my boyz but I am not a fan of the Ork torso that is all leather straps. I usually use those ones (if I have to) on my shoota boyz so that their shoota blocks it.
