they look pretty good, however, much like most products, they are cheaper and/or better quality from somewhere else.
Once again though, ill pay the price and try them

All i really want from FW is a nice ven. BA dread
The chappy dread works fine for a death company dread, but they have been nerfed! :(

Well, this IS technically the second Forgeworld(there was Forge World USA in the 90's).

My point was that when does FW ever lower prices? or GW for that matter? Competition seems to make them RAISE prices (Maybe the brits have a different form of capitalism... i dont get it)

I don't think this will effect MIG in the least. When it comes to MIG and weathering in general your talking about your hardcore military modelers, most GW folks just want to slap some paint on their models to get them on the table. The difference with FW is FW models do tend to be marketed toward the hardcore modeler/gamer of the GW hobby which is still a very very tinny percentage of the market share of military modelers in general.

I use MIG but will give FW a try, not because I jump on whatever bandwagon comes out but because I'm always looking for a better product, if FW pigments are better I will use them, if not I'll stick with MIG.

Fair enough!

Please let us know what you think, after you get a chance to try them out.

Agreed.

It's interesting though, because FW gives a MAJOR shoutout to MIG pigments in the IA Master Class book.

This set looks nice. With the exchange rate for US though, it's cheaper to buy the two Tamiya sets from The War Store.

When someone has had the opportunity to use both products, a quality, ease of use, etc. comparison would be helpful for the rest of us.

I can say that the Tamiya sets aren't bad, but they're very...unwieldy. You end up making a huge mess out of the remainder of the powder due to the fact that it's in essentially a make-up case, and you have to wet it down a bit to actually really get it to apply. The fact that MIG and FW's are in bottles are why I've taken to using MIG lately, but I can't say about the FW stuff just yet.

I've used the Tamiya stuff before, it has its place but when weathering a whole model I can not invision trying to use it. I do like their rust/metal/silver set it's good, the rest I skip.

Doc O'Brien's Weathering Powders from Micromark are fantastic. You get a great set of different colors (12) and they work great. I used them on my Ogres for their rusted armor. At $19.95 is a fantastic price as well!

I use the Tamiya weathering kits and find them to be very good and they're cheaper too!

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity......

I hope most of you realize that FW doesn't actually make these, correct? In fact, it's likely that these are made by the same company that makes Tamiya's/MIG's/insert-your-name-here's weathering powders. It happens all the time in the manufacturing industry. One company makes the product, another slaps its label on the product and then jacks up the price because instead of just paying the manufacturer, you have to pay the manufacturer and the label's owner. This is the case with ALL of GW's hobby products...

Wait until you get 5 empty bottles / tubs arrive

Armyman: We all know FW dont make these, chances are they pay a cheap price to an unknown company then throw them up for sale at a higher price.

Then why are people buying them from FW? Stupidity?

It's one thing to buy a box of Space Marines (or any other luxury product) that is ridiculously over-priced, since although you could buy proxies, only one company makes Space Marines. So if you like those particular models, you'll buy them. It's quite another thing to buy a product made by Company A, but sold at a higher price from Company B because of a brand name sticker on the top of the container.

But they can do their entire first run filled with nothing but Rust Red regardless of what colour it says on the bottle.

Ignorance I guess? GW hobby supplies are just normal supplies that are rebranded with GW on the packaging, aren't they?

Probably because of the fact that not everyone can find somewhere good to buy MIG powders from, or pay the prices that MIG charges. Last thing of MIG powders I got from them directly was nearly $20 for just one bottle around the same size as the FW ones.

My only issue right now with ordering the FW pigments over the MIG ones is the overseas shipping. What I think I'll do is when I place an order (maybe for the Chaos Reaver) I'll include the pigments with that.

I would guess that these are made by the same people that make Coat D'arms paints (same bottles). They are a UK company and used to make the excellent paint range for GW in the 80's and 90's (which they renamed Coat D'arms and now sell independantly of GW).

Something that may have passed you by...

"Forge World Will be Passing on UK Tax Reduction to its Customers

Recently, the UK Government has decided to reduce the rate of Value Added Tax (the UK sales tax) on all products subject to it by 2.5%, reducing it from 17.5% to 15%.

As a result Forge World will be passing on the effect of this reduction to all its customers with immediate effect, which will be represented by a reduction in our prices. All orders placed on our online store from now on will be processed and charged at these new lower rates, (except for our book products, which are not subject to VAT.)

This is great news for all our customers worldwide, because although this is a UK tax change, we have decided to apply these new lower prices to all the orders placed directly with Forge World, not just those from within the UK. This means that Forge World models are now lower in price for everyone."
