So I got my new airbrush and compressor in the mail last weekend, and rather than work out the kinks on someone else's project I decided to go ahead and paint my Krieg infantry (I know I'm so sweet huh? )

The fluff behind the army is that they are leftovers of this poor company (hence all vets) that got dropped on this beach metroplis planet that was nuked from orbit before assaulting. The prior owners were seen as corrupt by the Inquisitor (who ironically is now stuck on the planet too) who initiated the attack. Something went wrong with comms due to a reaction between the Exterminatus and the planets elecrical field, and the Naval fleet the Reserve unit originated from, who assumed their readings were correct, saw no life left on the planet and thus moved on.

Now literally all that is left of the company, they are basically hanging out on this wasteland world staying alive, fighting against equipment failure and bands of mutants, not of Chaos but from the fallout.

Inquisitor:

Company Command:

First Squad:

Second:(note there is a jumping spider on the top of the model back row, second from right. He sat there the whole time I took pics, even when I picked the model up, cleaning his feeder bits)

Third:

Fourth:

Fifth:

Here are the Inquisitor vehicles I did not long ago:

Here are the finished tanks I posted a while back. Note that the blue matches in person. I moved in between these two sets so I am using true sunlight now. It makes colors more vibrant in photos. Also the tank commanders have been updated to match the infantry. I wasnt sure then how I was going to do them.

I will be posting an article in a sec.

Amazing, similar colour palate to the eldar army but entirely new and comfortable on this imperial force.

No one does rust like you do man.

Your work reminds me of sets from the Juenet Brothers film, The City of Lost Children.

Ok, i now hold you responsible for my brain exploding and my computer crashing (2nd part was true lol)

How long does it roughly take you to paint each unit/vehicle?
those are some mad skills

Thanks buddy

Yeah I was kinda iffy on having that blue match the Eldar but I love it so I thought what the heck. Although the true color is closer to the blue on the tanks.

Here is the article on it, if you want to read more on the process although I will admit its not as interested as I wanted it to be. The article system doesnt work like I thought it did.

No worries on using the blue again, it really gives them a french feel I think, in keeping with the krieg uniform's historical design influence:

Any chance of a rust tutorial or is it a trade sekrit!?

Well I tried to link them to Fallout as well. In person they look pulled right out of Fallout 3. Good call on the French uniforms I admit that wasnt intentional.

Also the red shield with white stripe - I will say now I just pulled it out of the air I don't know if it comes from anything. It makes me think of malt liquor though hehe.

That was beautiful work. Normally I don't like that shade of blue but set against that rust orange it's perfect.

Beautiful work man, keep it up!

Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I Die, You are forgiven. If I Live, I will kill you." Such is the Rule of Honor.

Ahhh I love the story, and how it fits with the appearance of the units. I love how these guys are staying behind and just 'hanging out' lol. I know that's not their only purpose, but it'd be an interesting take on the life of a 40k guardsmen, when they have nothing to fight against for very long periods of times; and they can't really relax (like a PDF regiment would); or train with the knowledge of their forthcoming opponents (say a regiment en route to a battlefield; since space/warp travel takes so long).

I think I'm reading too much into it, and adding too much of my romanticist ideals into these guys, but ... thank you for letting me do that by producing this beautiful company of soldiers!

I didn't understand why the units were painted blue, but .. I like it! It's such a lovely contrast to the beautifully realistic rust effects - surpassing the point where a paintjob/colour has to 'make sense' or 'tell a story'.

This work is totally and utterly awesome but there's one teeny tiny flaw in it. The Heavy Bolter on the Inquisitors Chimera seems to be about to shoot the dozer blade. It can't fire without hitting itself!

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Right! Something different. They aren't in a war, but they can't stop fighting for survival. They can't even get relief from taking their breathers off.

I love Fallout, and the scenario characters in that game are going through. I like Zombie apocalypse books, things like that. I like a desert or beach sunset overlooking a rusty scrapyard. I watch that show The Colony religiously even though I am appalled by the acting!

Well its in reverse but big deal. Do you know what it says about it? I think it's in german. Thanks for posting that.

Heh. Its Heraldic French. It says on a red field, a white diagonal stripe. The page that is linked lists some family names lihnked to that particular heraldic device.

The reverse would be this.

Love the paintjob mate. They do look just absolutle rugged and worn down. The blue is a tad too bright for my taste but it does have a sort of oxidized Copper look to it.
