Et In Arcadia Ego

Hi There,
Here at Forge World our Christmas rush has already begun, so we thought it would be a good time to remind you about getting your orders to us in time for the big day. We also have another great new model available for release as well, the Tau XV-9 Close Support Armour for Warhammer 40,000.
Thanks
Alan Bligh
XV-9 `Hazard` Close Support Armour
An original battlesuit design intended to act as a powerful counter-attack unit and mobile weapons platform, this new addition to the Tau arsenal has been created in response to heavy losses incurred during the bloodiest phases of the Third Sphere Expansion. The XV-9 is one of the most complex and advanced combat systems the Tau have ever put into wide production, requiring a veteran`s skills to master in combat in service of the Greater Good.
Previewed in limited qualities at Games Day UK, the model is a full resin kit designed by Daren Parrwood. The XV-9 is larger than a standard crisis suit as you can see Here and looks sleek and deadly. This first version comes equipped with two twin-linked burst cannon.
The Tau XV-9 is available to Now for immediate release.
Rules for the Tau XV-9 will be found in the forthcoming Imperial Armour Apocalypse II, and you can find experimental rules on our website Here.

I like it, but it's just not Tau enough, even compared to the other FW suit varieties.

Its because the model is in a actual dynamic pose. I was like wait it looks funny then i nosted that basically he sculpted it into what would appear to be a walking and moving motion which no other Crisisuit has.
Compare it to the GW normal or even FW and I still think it blows them out of the water.
i am taken back seriously with how great this model looks.

I dunno, it's certainly Tau-esque, but i can see your point. The more organic curves make the plasic crisis suits look very boxy and primitive indeed. However i think it'll fit in well with the tau vehicles.

Not my favourite of the Forgeworld Crisis suits but it's still far superior to the standard suits.

I like it myself. I think the dynamic pose does indeed help. The plastic Crisis Suits are horribly static, and under jointed.
Looking forward to seeing new weapon fits though. Experimental is one of my favourite words you know!

I dig it. It seems to be an upgunned, upscale, no Stealth...Stealth armor.
So it's more akin to the new "Armored" Sentinels' roles, close support and the like.
Making me want to start a Tau army is NOT COOL GW.

I love this suit. I was sold like a month ago when they first leaked the pictures of the unpainted model. Now put it in your catalogue already Forgeworld so I can buy it.
Yes it looks like it belongs in D9, but I like the variety of a sport looking suit to contrast my walking block man XV-8s.

Be interesting to see what the future other weapon variants will be.
2x Twin Burstcannon's doesn't seem terribly effective, now 2x Twin Plasma rifle's on the other hand, that would be interesting

I think there's a seat in the torso, but GW art's never really shown the inside.
That said, if we go by the GW art in the Tau Codex, Battle suits should actually probably be half again as large as the model is in relation to the Fire Warriors.

I agree. Gorgeous model though, and makes me wish GW had spent more time on the crisis suit concept before commiting them to plastic. These just go to show how much potential crisis suits have, and what could have been. sigh.
Those extended legs are my favorite aspect of the FW models. they add a dynamic flair, and really set them apart from lower-tech static models like dreadnaughts and Killa Kans.
I'd love to do an army of Forgeworld crisis suits, but my damn kids like to eat.

I think the biggest problem with the plastic kit is a lack of pieces.
Make the legs into calve and thigh, and the arms jointed at the elbow, and the overall static look is mitigated quite well.

I love it. Looking at those 3 tau suits lined up together reminds me of the discussion a few of us were having the other day when we all said the battlesuits aesthetic is still in flux, it's like looking back at the time when, in short succession, several variants of terminator armour were released until GW were comfortable with the look.
The battlesuits and the overall look for tau are very distinct from much of the 'grimdark' in 40k that's been allowed to evolve naturally over the 20years or so, tau are still in infancy looks wise and have some ways to go yet before designs are set in stone and comfortable.

I agree , looks like Cog mixed with Gundam .
Which reminds me , the next time GW updates Tau , will they consider redoing the suits?

Personally, I think it's more that each of the suits is designed for a different role.
Take the "standard" kit from GW. That's supposed to be the bread and butter, tried and true Crisis Suit.
Shas'o R'myrr and his Taros suits were "experimental" as of the Taros Campaign, and deployed in very limited numbers. So it's similar to the way the military will try to do proving ground tests on equipment. Add in that they're supposed to be more heavily armored, and actually built off an entirely new hull/system...you get the XV-89s and all the variants thereof.
Makes sense, and shows that the Tau are still "an evolving race".
And now we have the newest armor. Which, without any real proper "background" almost looks like it's something the Tau have made after fighting against the Tyranids and deciding they needed a stopgap measure to put down swarms and heavier beasties.
But uh, enough logic.
Shiny things is good!

See, that's the kind of suit that I would use, instead of my current plans of using the plastic stealth suits to count as my crisis suits.
And to the guy who asked, yes, the pilots are curled up in the center torso in the fetal position, with a neural redirecter plug thing stuck into their spine to control the suit as if it were their own body.

I've always felt that Jes Goodwin had a tough time straddling the line between the straight-slabbed armour of the marines and the organic flowing lines of the eldar. Those developed over years to be their best and most iconic 40k imagery. I think it's only now that Tau have had enough time to evolve.
I really hopes he takes another crack at 'em. The Tau vehicles and stealth suits have set a great precedent, it's just crisis and broadsides that look hideous in comparison.

If I ever have enough money to go to England, I will definitely pick these up. But by that time, they will have evolved 3 times over and I'll be riding in one to get there.
I like the very dynamic pose, but if they're going to get "bigger", can we just get an "eternal warrior" somewhere?
