Hi there,

Just started this blog a couple days ago in two other forums and thought I'd share it here aswell. I mean why not?

Just going to give you a little introduction of what this painting log is all about.

This is a Black Templar Project (NO WHAT ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!!?) and I just started working with them and my only goal that I have is to have a big collection of them. I'm not aiming for an army that will be awesome at the tabletop because I'm not really playing the game. I just want loads of figures in my dispaly cause and Black Templars caught my eye.

Though I read through the codex and just made a list for fun to have SOMETHING to aim for but I will probably change it pretty often. This is a project that will never end because I will never get done with it. I will probably take breaks to paint other things but will hopefully always get back.

I hope you will enjoy following this project and I hope I will too.

Now for some pictures! The first is just the first initiate I finished and this will be the overall quality of the collection. The second figure is something I'm currently working on. First a picture with no paint to just show what he will look like and then a WIP shot that was taken today. Yay!

Comments are welcome!

Under the Himalaiyan mountains

That is one of the cleanest, best looking Black Templars I have ever seen. The writing is not overdone, and everything is just perfect. I want to see more...

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands

Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.

The first marine and the chapter master's armor is done differently. I'll give you the recipe for both.

Space Marine:

Undercoat with the Chaos Black spray from GW
Now just paint Chaos Black with the brush all over the model.
50/50 Shadow Grey and Chaos Black highlight
Shadow Grey Highlight
And at last Space Wolf Grey on the extreme edges on the armor.

It's very difficult to explain the exact color ratio on the Chapter Master because I was mixing the colors a lot. Just play around a little while mixing and you should be fine.

Chaos Black Spray undercoat
Instead of pure Chaos Black mix Regal Blue with Chaos Black. I think 40/60 Regal Blue/Chaos Black is right. It should not look blue when painted on but the hint of blue should be there. It's hard to explain really lol. Why Regal Blue you ask? Well, it's because it gives black a very clean look to it.
Then for the highlighting I started with mixing Space Wolf Grey into the same Regal Blue/Chaos Black mix. I think it was 50/50.
And at last pure Space Wolf Grey on the extreme edges.

Hope it helped a little?

Thank you again guys! I appreciate it A LOT!

Thanks for the tips mate,
how did you do that white?
did you do the pads with a white spray seperatly? it looks perfectly smooth. im sure for everyone else paint black templars, the white is incredibly hard.
its going to be a tough job to do a whole army, especially to that detail. make sure you dont rush it.

now lets see some sword brethren!

It's just white spray all over.

I'm glad to help mate.

I won't rush anything, I want a good looking army. I won't paint Sword Brethren for a while either. I have lots of stuff to paint before I get to them.

I haven't been painting as much as I wanted to.. don't know why really, I just don't paint.

Here is a small update though. I'm not sure if the ropes are to dark. I think it's a nice strong red but there is something that is bugging me. And the banner thing on his right leg.. Does anyone know a short word that is very "Black Templish" that I can fit in there? :p

Any comments welcome! I'll get back to painting soon so cya until then.

Hi there, remember me?

I have been gone for painting a while.. playing computer games.. meh. Actually I was also scared of painting the cape on this guy and I think that was a reason why I took a long break from painting. Now when it's finished I think it turned out ok. I think it was 7 years ago I painted a red cape last time so yeah. Something I need to work on. Now, nothing scares with painting this model and I'm thired of computer games for now so I should be updating more.

The cape is fantastic, you never had anything to worry about. Looking forward to seeing the head done and attached, I think the head really gives the model impact, a place to focus.

Looks great! Just commit to it and go for it... it's going to look good

About the white shoulder pads- I wonder if something was lost in translation? You didn't really "spray" (with an aerosol can of spray paint) them white, did you? You said that you sprayed the model Chaos Black, so I'm thinking that you must have *painted* (not sprayed) the white for the shoulder pads, using multiple thin coats, since it looks so good.

Correct me if I'm wrong, of course

I played BT in 3rd edition and I'm still a fan of them! Looking great so far! Might I suggest an assembly-line approach for your next batch of tactical marines? You won't have to sacrifice quality, but by doing the same step for each marine, it'll save you time and effort.

I sprayed the model black leaving the shoulder pads off to spray them white.

Pure awesomeness! One concern though - the tabard. It seems to me that there's too much brown and not enough bone/white.
