Which model was it? Which individual model did you look at and then say 'yep, that's the army I'm going to collect!'

For me, with Orks, I was greatly impressed by the entire revamp of the model range and then I saw this fella and knew I had to own them:

I loved that missile launcher. It reminded me of all those non-PC 80's action flicks with Afghani's with stinger missiles

I don't get it... What's so non-PC about history? The US did supply weapons of every kind to the Taliban when the Soviets invaded after all.

My first army was a tossup between the paintschemes for Scythes of the Emperor and Black Templars back in the 3rd ed codex (Sadly, I can find no image of the two-page spread on google). I went with B.T. after reading more about them in Codex Armaggedon.

This got me first interested in Cadians. I had a decent sized force of the old metals...

And then the plastics came out, and it was a very 'meh' moment. Then, years later...The Anphelion Project and the rebreather heads were released.

And now, in 2010...I'm finally finishing and assembling my full 82nd Cadian Special Tasks Group, which I've guesstimated to be around 5k points. When said STG is finished, I'm starting my "Order of the Ascendant Blade"--which was a Dark Angels Successor Chapter founded to hunt and capture a specific member of the Fallen but having finished that now operates outside of the Eye of Terror region.

Back in the day, it was the Dark Angels, it was more the fluff than any particular model during the Space Hulk, rogue trader 2nd edition era.

Since then the new Space Hulk 3rd edition pulled me out of a 5 year hibernation... Unfortunate since I am now a grown man with a career and a wife, which means I have a whole lot more $ and a whole lot less time LOL.

I don't think there have been any particular pivotal models where starting an army is concerned... largely because I've always wanted to collect pretty much everything.

Although the metal Space Marine Scouts were the models that persuaded me to come back to 40K the first time I nearly quit...

For me, it was actually a couple of WD covers (one of which was also the cover of 'Ere We Go'). These images of the Orks were so strong that they still influence the way I build and paint my Orks. It's a shame it took so long for the actual models to look as good as the artwork! The klassik Orks are great in their way, but lacked the dynamism that Brian Nelson introduced with his plastic Boyz.

This guy pulled me from WHFB into Gorkamorka (and subsequently, 40k orks). He's not mine, the only info I found was the painter, "Errex". This model became the Nob of any Gorker gang I built. I love this model, just too brutal for words.

Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka, released late 90s and still alive and kicking. Love this model too. He came about along with the rest of Nelson's orks and the previous edition ork Codex. The model just oozes character, and looks hard as a coffin nail.

I love the original baneblade. Never liked the plastic one that much...looks like someone went a little overboard with the rivet gun, and don't forget the ridiculous gothic arches beneath the turret.

That's why when I finally get around to making a "Steel Fury" detachment, I'm going to Dremel down the rivets with a sanding attachment and then attach slatted armor or Zimmerit to the sides.
